A few minutes ago, I posted the message below and then realized that we were about to move to Page 2. My message was mostly a "thank you" to Necie in MD and novelera for their helpful and delightful comments about Wednesda'y's epidsode, but I didn't want my thanks to go unseen. So I copied my message, then deleted it from Page 1 and posted it here on Page 2.

Many thanks, Niecie and novelera, for your very helpful observations and explanations about Wednesday's episode. Niecie, I really felt sympathy for Devin when she discovered what an unmitigated scoundrel her father is, was, and probably always will be. And like you, Niecie, I thought kicking the kids out of school made no sense, though big donor Hulya convinced the unprincipled principal that it made $en$e.

Novelera, I loved your calling Devin's father "Scumbag Ergun." I think I'll call him that from now on. Like the unprincipled principal, he bends to Hulya's reminding him about her donation$ to the hospital, placing money above his daughter's well-being and happiness. And I also loved your describing Hulya's plan to home school her grandchildren, "beginning with Dirty Tricks 101 and later Sabotaging Your Children 1A."

I'll do a recap tonight, length depending on energy level. These dark December days make me want to curl up with novels and do as little as possible.

#48 – Part 1 of 3

We again see Serap in a hallway reading the note from Aslan tucked under a cup of tea. She either gets Leyla released or she’ll rot in jail herself. She puts it into her sleeve and then is called in for a medical exam. [Huh? You get a free medical exam in Turkey after being arrested?] But Cihan has bribed someone. [Wow! The man bun is gone. Orders from Ilyas? Sprucing up for Serap? He has a regular haircut.] Serap shows him Aslan’s note. He begs her to help Leyla get free. They then have a real kiss, no biting at all. Cihan says he’s never felt like this before.

Nedret continues to help Devin, comforting her with some aphorism: “The salvation begins in the middle of the battle.”

Back to Cihan/Serap. She looks sad and tells him they’re separated. “Remember me like this.” When the doctor comes in, she tells him to note that her heart may be racing.

Yagmur has brought something for “the store” for Aslan. She gives it to Eko. He still looks like a whipped dog. He asks her why she lied about being engaged. She reminds him he’s getting married tomorrow. Aslan comes in and more or less tells Eko to follow his heart. [I’ve had it with Eko/Yagmur.]

Sigh. Bedri passes Cagri on the street. He tells a dollar-store henchman to follow Cagri to where Aslan has stashed Bozo.

Hulya talks to someone on the phone about her plot to ruin Nedret by accusing her of killing her husband.

Devin comes to tell Aslan she isn’t backing off her plan to get Leyla out (by outing Hulya as the horrible mother who’s bent on keeping her there). He has her tie his necktie for him. He gets flirtatious and says he’s on his way to meet this guy Cengiz, a big guy in hotels. He says the guy will make an offer (to replace the one from the dead Russian). He shows her the invitation to a party. They’re both invited. She, of course, says she’s not Mrs. Soykan. He gets her laughing by threatening to go beat up the one who sent the invitation with the wrong name.

Devin ends up agreeing to come. “Let’s put down our arms.” It’s said he won’t be able to make the second payment of the fine without an infusion of cash. He suggests she might regatearte en frente de mí y mi madre (bargain, presumably for the hotel deal). She laughs out loud.

There’s one of those all-female Turkish parties for the bride to be, where they all dance. Asuman is taking a photo of Nedret with the bride (sorry, forgot her name). But we get STILL ANOTHER of those blasted string of news announcements on Asuman’s phone. Hulya’s negative PR campaign against Nedret is everywhere.

#48 – Part 2 of 3

Maybe I’m a fashion dunce, but Devin’s black outfit (suit? dress?) with huge white cuffs and collar doesn’t do a thing for me. Aslan tells her, on the way into the party, that the prospective investor’s wife is completely devoted to her children. Right after the introductions, said devoted mother brings up the issue of Hulya’s having been accused of keeping her daughter in prison. Aslan bobs and weaves.

Hulya asks Nedret at the bride party if she put henna on her trasero (butt) the night her husband died. Nedret doesn’t miss a beat. She says she’ll save that for when Hulya dies. Just then the cops show up to take Nedret in. [Sigh. You get arrested in Turkey for online rumors?]

The prospective investor tells Aslan he’s not a Russian oligarch, but rather the son of a farmer. There’s some verbal tapdancing, but it seems the guy won’t meet the price. Meanwhile Devin is working on the wife. Said wife says that she used to work as a general manager of a string of hotels in New York. She misses working. She also thinks that the marina hotel would be a great location.

The cops come into the bride party for Nedret. Hulya smiles her shark smile as Nedret is led out.

Aslan makes another speech (to Devin). [Did Kivanc bribe the writers for these soliloquies?] In essence he says that they are invincible when they work together. They decide on a “cease fire” and get very drunk.

Bedri comes home just as the cops put his mother in the squad car. He confronts Hulya and tells her she should pray nothing happens to his mother. If it does, he says he won’t kill Hulya; he’ll kill Aslan. He gets close and says that HE killed his father, the bastard, not his mother. Hulya’s look of triumph is wiped off her face.

Ilyas asks Cihan to tell him the truth without being afraid of being killed. Does he love Serap? Cihan simply says that he loves her. Ilyas gives him his blessing. He goes on to say that Aslan will be abono para las plantas (plant fertilizer).

Aslan and Devin are…somewhere, getting drunker. She calls him hermoso (beautiful) but he says he’s apuesto (handsome). This sort of looks ridiculous written out, but it’s kind of cute while they’re saying it. She kind of babbles something about 14 days (a test of her fertility? Would it take that long?). They decide to not think about tomorrow. Of course they wake up in the same bed with throbbing heads (and probably dragon breath). Devin throws on the funny dress and staggers out.

Right after she leaves Aslan gets a call from Cengiz saying he thinks they can agree on a price. [While Devin and Aslan were dancing and drinking, we saw the wife talking seriously to her husband.]

#48 – Part 3 of 3

Hulya is putting more pressure on Ergun, presumably about making sure Devin never has a child.

We see Turgut give Devin some papers. She smiles happily and says she’s missed getting things done with him. He calls her boss and offers to go in with her and beat someone up if they’re rude to her. It turns out she’s come to the school, and the papers have the goods on that chubby principal. We don’t know what’s in the papers because Devin says that Hulya was too well practiced to have left a trail. She tells him that Zeynep and Kaya will return tomorrow to the school and their friends. And he’s to resign immediately.

Bedri offers to turn himself in for killing his father, and Nedret slaps him.

Bedri finds out over the phone about Aslan’s new deal. He also tells his guy to give Cihan Bozo’s location.

Bedri comes to gripe to Aslan about the new deal. “You’re leaving us out of the deal for an apprentice.” [Ok, I’m pretty confused about what’s going on with Aslan’s deals. I thought Aslan was getting a guy to buy the marina hotel. Later on both Bedri and his mother seem to think they’re being bought out of the whole marina. Aslan even tells Bedri to go back to Adana. Don’t know if I keep missing things or if the translations are off.] Aslan says they’re signing the papers tomorrow and he’ll give them back the money.

Devin, Nedret and the children are by the pool. Devin tells the kids that they’ll be back in school tomorrow. The kids embrace her. Hulya has overheard and is sucking lemons again. After the kids leave, Devin says that what happened was Hulya’s work. Hulya tells her she’s paranoid. Devin: “Interesting, my father said the exact same thing to me yesterday.”

Bedri calls Nedret with the news [that they’re out of the marina?]. Nedret explodes.

Ibo is awake but apparently unable to speak. He writes for Hulya’s flunky that Aslan was the one.

Cihan comes to a hotel room and draws his pistol before going in. Aslan is inside, and he tells him that Bozo isn’t there, nor is Cihan’s honor. “It’s Leyla! You prefer to side with a venomous serpent instead of your sister.” He goes on to say that Bozo is in court right this very minute. Cihan says that, if Aslan takes away his last hope… Aslan: “What? You’ll kill me?” Cihan: “I won’t dirty my hands. There’s plenty of guys hanging around who’ll do it for a few bucks.”

Cihan is definitely confusing me. He begs Serap to help get Leyla free. But he’s apparently willing to kill Bozo so she can keep right on doing what she’s doing.

Fam2

Novelera, I haven't watched this episode yet but the previous one went into detail about the hotel deal. Since I was a day behind I had the benefit of English captions. I am getting more insight into this TN by delaying my watching until after the recaps and using English subtitles.

So if Aslan pays a premium, 125% was mentioned I think, within 1 year or 24 months, that I don't recall, to Nedret he gets his shares back in the Marina. His plan is to sell the hotel outright to this other investor to raise the funds and get Bedri and Nedret out of his business. Does that make it more clear?

"VENGANZA" HIGHLIGHTS DISCUSSION/OT:
Howdy from the Alamo City CarayCaray Family. The Texas Longhorns are now the only SEC team left in the 2024 CFB Playoffs. Something tells me the Ohio State Buckeyes will win their 9th national championship.

Kat in SC: Looking forward to seeing your recap of Thursday night's episode. I wonder when will Brenda find out that Gabriel & Alfredo killed her brothers ? Ultimos Capitulos or the Gran Final ?

Venganza #47

This episode was very Fernanda, Ana, Eugenio heavy. Observations in no particular order are from memory as I'm enjoying a doing shorter recap format..

Everyone in the del Pino family is shocked after seeing the photo of Fernanda and Eugenio from long ago and now most of them believe Ana's story that Fernanda killed their mother and probably Manuela also. Eugenio and Adelberto are working with the lawyers for damage control. They plan for to claim it isn't a real photo, maybe. Or they plan to say their affair was over years before Fernanda showed up in Miami and went to work for the del Pino family. The lawyers check with Eugenio and Fernanda that their is no phone trail or hotel visits between them in the past 10 years and they need to distance themselves from each other now.

Brenda offers Monica in her new real estate company she is setting up to sell her father's condos. Monica is tempted but declines. Later she mentions it to Sebastian. She says the money would be nice if she went to work for her. (I'm thinking this would be a good idea if the del Pino family loses everything to Eugenio...)

Rafita and Miguel are plotting something, perhaps a robber of the del Pino house. Now Claudia no longer works there ( though she may return after she gets out of rehab, I'm not certain about that) they no longer have an easy in to the estate.

Elisa convinces Ana to go to work with her so she is not alone (after a random drug test that was clean). Erika gets to babysit Ana. Ana is still stuck on Francisco and wants to see him face to face. Erika arranges a lunch date with Marcelo, Francisco, Ana and herself which of course goes badly for Ana as Francisco continues his idiotic belief of Fernanda's innocence.

Claudia will be released soon and wants to go back to her shared apartment with Pati. Pati speaks with her on the phone and offers her no help in her recovery but tells her she can have all the old furnishings from the apartment and the entire rent bill as she is too busy taking care of "Papa's" needs. Erika of course wants Claudia to stay with her and Fermin. I'm pretty sure Claudia is resisting this to keep them safe from Miguel and Rafita. Those 2 are plotting on how to get her back in their clutches by getting her hooked again.

Their is a new character introduced from afar, the ESL teacher at the school. Erika is hoping to set Ana up with him as he is young and handsome.

Mirna wants to know nothing more of Tania's plans about Alfonso. She does not want to be an accessory or accomplice in his downfall ( maiming or whatever Tania has up her sleeve).

Fernanda is convinced there is no hope for her and Monica to have a relationship. Eugenio rubs salt in the wound. He plans to let her know he is her father and probably spin it somehow that he looks like the good guy. And of course he can make her a millionaire so he thinks that is his ticket.

Looks like tomorrow is the day Francisco returns. Everything is set.

Eugenio has his affairs in order, but nothing is disclosed as to his beneficiary.

He reminds Fernanda that she will be on the hook for the murders of Maria Laura and Manuela and Florida has the death penalty.

¡Muchísimas gracias! novelera, for this impressive and very helpful recap of an episode I found frequently mystifying.

I've never been a fan of man buns, and so I was pleased that Cihan finally got rid of his. If I understood correctly, he wasn't pressured to do so, he just got tired of it. I certainly was.

I am also not a fan of Devin's black and white outfit that seems designed to match Aslan's. They reminded me of little kids whose parents thought it would be cute to dress them alike. Yuck.

Novelera, I know you've said you've had it with Eko/Yagmur, but I suspect that that's the pair we'll see at the end, unless of course one or both of them get killed first (a definite possibility). Aslan's again telling Eko not to listen to his head but rather to his heart has pretty much convinced me that Eko is not going to marry Elif, even though the wedding is about to take place.

I enjoyed your side comments, such as "[Sigh. You get arrested in Turkey for online rumors?]" I suspect that Hulya the Horrible, with her "shark smile," provided some made-up corroboration for the accusation.

I'm surprised that drunken Aslan and even more drunken Devin managed to make it home without an automobile accident.

Sorry, even without his man bun, Cihan has ceased to interest me. As for Serap....I can think of no reason to like her and several reasons not to.
Feh.

Yes, novelera, I think the 14 days refers to how long it will take to get the results of the tests. That does seem like an inordinately long time, but I think I recall that number being mentioned in that context not long ago. I just hope Devin's father doesn't do anything to falsify the results--or worse.

As for the unprincipled principal changing his mind, I think Devin says something to him about his accepting bribes. I assume that the papers she shows him are a record of those bribes.

OK, I have to confess, I have no recollection of what Bozo did or did not do, and thus why some people want him dead. I'm also somewhat confused about the dealings concerning the marina and/or the hotel.

I loved it when Hulya accuses Devin of being paranoid and Devin knowingly replies, “Interesting, my father said the exact same thing to me yesterday.”

Fam2

I'm also in the not a fan of Devin's black and white outfit club. That oversized collar looked ridiculous. Also, I don't remember Bozo either....

fam2

Gracias, Novelera. Your vocab is always a delight. Thanks for detailing Cihan's dialogue with Aslan: “I won’t dirty my hands. There’s plenty of guys hanging around who’ll do it for a few bucks.” Aslan is racking up a lot of enemies (Bedri, Cihan, Ibo, Ilyas, not to mention whoever cared about Atu). I'm worried Cihan's statement is foreshadowing.

I'm glad Cihan's man bun is gone, but I think the stylist went too far adjusting the hair color. I too disliked Devin's dress. My theory in the beginning was that she wanted to appear mannish, to thwart getting busy with Aslan, but that sure didn't pan out. I wouldn't be surprised if her next fertility test shows the rabbit died.

Bozo is the huge hulking bald guy on Ibo's crew. Ilyas has a hit out on him because he knows Serap tried to kill Ibo. She's threatened to make Bozo's grandchildren pay if he testifies against her.

Thank you Niecie and novelera for carrying us through the New Year celebrations. I concur with Kat about the hotel business. I can’t blame the Russians for backing out after Igor’s death. The Soykans travel in dangerous waters—no pun intended.

Aslan is most annoying. I’m sick of his “con calma” right before he beats the tar out of someone.

They cut Asuman & Turgut again! Turgut and Asuman see AsDev off to the party. Asuman does the mashallah and evil eye stuff. Devin comments that Asuman and Turgut look very compatible. Turgut is irked and puts his hand to his lips. Lol. In the car, Aslan notes that Asuman looks ready to eat Turgut alive. They laugh. Asuman then comments to Turgut that blondes (meaning Aslan) are not her type. I like darker, more big bodied men, she says while looking Turgut over, head to foot. Turgut looks a bit frightened and steps back. She tosses her hair and walks away. Repent, repent, Turgut says, may Allah forgive me. We’ve become perverts.

The ladies had a henna night, kına gecesi, for Elif, the night before the wedding. They edited some of this. Too bad. Asuman notes that Elif hasn’t cried yet. Elif wonders why she should cry when she’s so happy. Asuman answers, you’re supposed to cry tonight, tomorrow there will be plenty of time for laughing. It will be your wedding night! Asuman also cautions her not to have a lot of children right away. A woman with many children gets bewildered. Elif says that she doesn’t plan to make motherhood her career.

They cut Eko sharing his last single night with Isko and Turgut. Eko is gets drunk and mean. I think Yagmur was mentioned. He argues with Turgut and Isko, it almost comes to blows. Eko stumbles away and sits somewhere and starts to ugly cry.

Cut: more Yagmur-Bedri interaction. He made up something to meet her at a deserted place. I think he did something to her car, too. She was ticked but they got in his car, she behind the wheel, and she peeled out like a professional stunt driver. She continues to drive recklessly thinking about Eko dumping her on their engagement night. She spins out on a wet road. Bedri is alarmed. She sees a tanker truck and guns the engine. She says she will choose between life and death. She speeds towards the truck. Bedri is scared. She stops within inches. Bedri calls her a maniac and they laugh.

Cihan is solely fault for not freeing Leyla? Come on Aslan. You’re the one who needs to stop Hulya from spreading her evil tentacles everywhere. I think Cihan wants to save both Leyla and Serap. It’s almost impossible, but he’s trying.

Cihan was noticeably uncomfortable when Ilyas said he’d make plant fertilizer out of Aslan.

Are we betting that Devin is loading Baby Aslan?

Friday recap will be up tomorrow.

"VENGANZA" HIGHLIGHTS DISCUSSION
Kat in SC: Thank you very much for your recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts on last night's episode (super-short).

*Francisco is a DUMBASS. Worst Protagonist ever!

*Ana: I'm praying for you 100 percent. I'm intrigued to know if the ESL teacher is a villain or not. What do we know about the ESL teacher 🤔

*Mirna: Good choice in NOT wanting anything to do with Tania's soon to be disastrous plot against Slick Alonso.

*Monica: Fast Forward. Wake me up when Sebastian finds out about Slick Alonso raping Monica, whom I assume will be preggers down the road.

*Pati is a worthless piece of expletive! Karma anvils better be good.

*Glad to see Eugenio mention to Crazy Goldie Locks that FL has the death penalty. Although Eugenio will end up on death row too.

Thanks all. I appreciate the kind words and the extra help on the marina/hotel thingy. Kat, you cleared up Aslan's plan perfectly. He's always wanted to be top dog and didn't love being rescued by his auntie. I did see 125% in the captions. I just couldn't connect the dots. Of course Bedri is especially ticked because he had dreams of pushing Aslan out and being in charge of everything.

Juanita, loved "unprincipled principal". I seem to recall some junior high (now they call it middle school) teacher drumming the different meanings/spellings into my youthful head.

Niecie, I thought the exact same thing. I liked the haircut on Cihan, but not the complete wiping out of the grey hairs here and there. Can't wait to see if Bozo's testifying really happens. I would like Serap to reform, but there's been no signs that she will.

dondi, ITA about Aslan just letting Hulya do her worst. She's so poisonous. I wish he'd just throw her out in the street or threaten to do so if she doesn't stop being horrible to her own daughter.

Looks like Yagmur is back to risky behaviors. dondi, I appreciate the cut scenes of she and Bedri. But I'm kind of glad I didn't see them. Bedri could not be a worse substitute for the already sketchy Eko.

fam2 # 49 part 1

Ilyas watches from his car as Serap is escorted by the heavily armed Jandarma into a van. Salih asks him, what do we do? We have no choice, Ilyas replies, that bastard Aslan sentenced my daughter to prison so he could save his sister. I’m going to destroy him.

Leyla gets a notification on her phone. Her eyes widen. We don’t see. Her friendly cellmate tells her that Melek is heading to the infirmary. Leyla hides in a laundry basket so she can check it out. Melek is on the floor. There are empty bottles and boxes of drugs nearby. Leyla bangs on the door for Melek to open. Leyla takes a fire extinguisher to bash the door open.

Aslan calls Devin from the wedding venue, the Moonlight Wedding Hall. He tells her Serap has been arrested. Now it will be easier to free Leyla. Inshallah, Devin replies, but there are Ilyas and Cihan. They could move against you.

Let them come, Aslan says, don’t worry. [signal to start worrying.] He’s focused on the wedding. We’ll continue with the truce. Today we are happy. Last time we spent the night at a hotel, and that could happen today, too. She says she must hang up. He does, too. The bride and groom have arrived at the venue.

Cut: Eko apologizes to Isko and Turgut for his nasty behavior last night. He’s all smiles. Seems like he’s accepted his fate with Elif.

Leyla breaks into the infirmary. [No nurse or doc?] Melek says it’s the end of the road for her. She’s already dead and she flashes an empty bottle. She adds, and in a way, you are too. Leyla asks, what will happen after you die? Do you think Serap will spare your daughter?

Aslan greets Eko. You look handsome… blah, blah… I love you very much… blah, blah… there’s a hug. Cue the drums and zurnas! Everybody dances.
Melek tells Leyla they share a common wound. Their children. We are mothers trying to protect our children. You from your mother, me from an unjust world. I’m sorry but I have to die so I can protect my daughter. Leyla pulls out her phone and shows Melek the pic of Serap with the Jandarma. You don’t have to die, Leyla says, Serap is in prison and Aslan will find your mother and daughter. You have to live for your daughter’s sake. Leyla leaves and Melek forces herself to puke up the drugs she swallowed. [how will Leyla sneak back into her cell?]

Yagmur is streaming video of Eko and Elif dancing in the street. Devin walks in and sees. She tells Yagmur she won’t attend the wedding. They can spend a sister day together instead. Yagmur says it’s not necessary, Devin should go. She only opened the video because she got a notification. Yagmur goes to her room and gets a bottle of vodka and continues to watch wedding footage.

Cut: Nese admires Devin all dressed up for the wedding. Devin asks Nese to keep an eye on Yagmur. Don’t leave her alone. [That didn’t work out well the last time she asked her.] Nese asks about progress in the money laundering case. Devin says Cagri is keeping on top of it. Devin reminds her mom to keep an eye on Yagmur and to call her if needed. Nese warns Devin to be careful and gives us a possible spoiler—someone always gets shot at these crazy people’s wedding. God forbid, Devin answers.

Bedri arrives at the wedding hall and he’s packing a gun. He looks for his mom. He’s steaming over what’s happened with the marina. Nedret is upset too. Bedri explains the loophole in the contract and the new investor. Bedri says they were stabbed in the back, but he will take that knife and stab the traitors. Nedret says, we will crush those who hurt us. Haven’t we done so before?

Eko knocks on the bridal room door. Ceylan jokes that the door won’t open. Eko collects his bride. Elif is a beautiful bride. Aslan jokes with Devin that perhaps they should take this opportunity to renew their vows.

fam2 # 49 part 2

Bedri asks his mom, you won’t regret this, will you? I never regret anything, Nedret replies. I came to settle unfinished business. If someone gets in my way, if someone wants to write my fate for me… I’ll break their arm.

The bride and groom enter the room. They approach Nedret and kiss her hand. Then they head to the wedding table.

Devin and Aslan approach Nedret. Nedret asks for a moment with Aslan. Are you kicking us out, she asks. No one is kicking you out, Aslan replies, the partnership is over. I started it and ended it. She asks, then why are you working behind our backs? I’m not, Aslan answers, Bedri is the one who does this. He betrayed us. Just like you betrayed us. Remember we were all watching the news 2 days ago?

Nedret says, you can make the same mistake 3 times. You and your mother have gone above and beyond. Explain what happens then, Aslan asks. Only God knows, Nedret replies, he decides the consequences. You’re kicking us out of the marina but that’s not how it works. The sultan calls the shots, and the sultan of the marina is Bedri.

Aslan mocks, this guy? He doesn’t have what it takes. He’s not even a man. Bedri is ready to start a fight. Nedret holds him back and tries to shut Aslan up. Aslan says, when you return to Adana, teach him to be serious. He will hurt himself. He’s a spoiled brat. [I can agree with Aslan on that point.] Aslan walks away.

Asuman breaks a jug that contains gold coins. [I thought the bride was supposed to do this either at henna night or when she arrives at her new house.]

Very drunk Yagmur stumbles up to the wedding hall. [I thought Nese was supposed to watch her.] And Bedri just happens to be coming outside. He asks her, where are you going? I’m going to congratulate them, Yagmur replies. Don’t go, he says. She fights him off. Let go, get out of my way! He picks her up, takes her to his car and puts her in the backseat. She cries.

Eko and Elif say their “I do’s”. Aslan and Nedret are the witnesses. We get camera shots of unhappy Hulya and unhappy Bedri. Then we cut to Ilyas’ dinner table. Uh oh, Kiymet serves up the death beans. We see Cihan looking at the note Aslan sent to Serap. “Either you take Leyla out, or you are proud inside. Make your decision, don't forget it's the last day of your days.”

People dance at the wedding. Then we go to Ibo’s hospital room. Kemal smiles and nods at him. [what could this mean?] More wedding festivities and then we get shots of all the people with a grudge against Aslan. Nedret, Bedri, Ilyas, Ibo, Cihan.

Now there’s a guy in a car outside the wedding venue. He’s on his phone. I received the money, he says, I’ll go inside now. I’ll do everything as planned but it will be a bit dirty. The guy takes out hand sanitizer and uses it. Then he takes a gun out of the glove box. He enters the building, and he taps on the walls as he walks through. It’s weird.

The guy watches Aslan and Devin on the dance floor. Aslan talks about their drunken hook up. He remembers all the details. He goes into full blown seduction mode. It’s working. Aslan breaks away and it looks like he’s planning something for Devin. [This was FF>> material for me. AsDev is losing its charms over me. My apologies to the AsDev fans.]

But there’s that creepy guy, who has something planned for Aslan. And he follows Aslan out of the room. We see his gun and he gets a text that we don’t see. Aslan enters the bridal room. A dreamy Devin stands alone on the dance floor, and she remembers the drunken hookup. Then she goes to her phone. She texts Aslan, I remember everything. [Good for you, Devin, I don’t care.] Aslan texts back, I’m in the room, I’m waiting for you. Devin heads off.

fam2 # 49 part 3

But the creepy guy gets there first and shoots Aslan 3 times. I think Devin heard. Aslan falls. The creepy guy leaves. Devin enters the room and rushes to him— who did this? Aslan! Aslan! [OMG, those awful shrieks! Don’t worry, hun, I think it’s too early in the story for Aslan to die, but here comes the hospital drama!]

The 3 musketeers come running and pry Devin off Aslan. Hulya runs in [are you satisfied now?] The rest of the wedding guests stand gaping outside the room. [gotta wonder why Elif’s seemingly conservative and decent family would willingly give her to someone who works for the mafia. Don’t they watch the news?]

Family is at the hospital. Devin is in shock. We hear her inner voice as she walks the hallway. You’d think a person’s mind would go blank at time like this, no? Mine didn’t. I kept repeating a single sentence. Life is over. And if life is over, what are we doing here? This can’t be real. None of this can be real.

Devin’s mind goes to a different place. We see her and Aslan with a baby, and they are happy. She continues, 3 months ago, we were going to give it all up so we could start over. That wasn’t a dream. It wasn’t a baby girl. It was our most precious treasure. I’m sure it was real. You must think I’m crazy, don’t you? On the contrary, I’m doing this to chase away insanity. I cling to a glimmer of hope to keep standing. I’m hanging on while the man I love more than life is dying. (Aslan is in surgery.)

A cop brings Aslan’s phone to Devin. She closes herself in a bathroom stall and reads Aslan’s last text to her—I miss us so much. [Yes, she’s sitting on the toilet with all her clothes on!] She cries. She emerges from the stall and washes her face. Inner voice again—After I allowed myself a moment to cry, I’m ready to do whatever needs to be done.

A TV news report. Bedri and Nedret watch in the waiting area. Aslan Soykan is an important figure in the underworld. If his murder was carried out in such a public place, then we have reason to believe this was planned by a big organization or someone in the family is responsible.

We see that Ibo is watching from his hospital room. Report continues. In these families, enemies can be found inside and out. Sometimes the biggest enemy is a relative. Kemal looks at Ibo. Reporter notes that Ibrahim Soykan was also recently attacked.

Cut to Cihan watching. Reporter: his alleged attacker, Serap Varol, was arrested. However, most surprisingly, Bozo Gurksu, Ibrahim’s right-hand man, admitted to planning his murder. He was arrested and sent to prison. [indeed, a surprise.] Ilyas is watching. The reporter says that Serap was released, and sure enough, there’s Serap sitting next to Ilyas. Report continues. That proves the point. Within a criminal family, there are enemies everywhere.

Hulya is watching. Reporter: Aslan Soykan cared about his family above all else. In his absence, his enemies will continue to attack his family. Devin appears alongside Hulya. Reporter: Unfortunately, the priority for the culprits will be to finish what they started. In their world you must finish what you start. Hulya and Devin look at each other.

The doctor comes out to speak with the family. How is Aslan? He needed a lot of blood. They were able to stop the bleeding. But there is a serious laceration to his lung. He could still bleed to death. The next 48 hours are critical. Geçmiş olsun.

Turgut separates from the group. He starts to cry. [this touched me most of all.] Devin puts her hand on his shoulder. Is he going to be okay, weepy Turgut asks, will Dayı live? What would I do without him? Devin gives him a hug and says, Aslan will get better. He will live. We’ll only cry today. I’m going to need your help tomorrow. Look at me. Get a hold of yourself.

fam2 # 49 part 4

Devin starts giving orders to the guys. She wants them to search the hospital again. This place will become a fortress. She asks for the footage from the wedding hall. We will find the bastard and make him pay. Hulya asks, what happens after that? Devin doesn’t answer that. She turns and walks.
Devin’s inner voice again. I have a question for you now. Will you let someone live if you knew that sooner or later, they would kill someone you loved more than your own life?

Hulya arrives at the marina. She asks Arif to check a list of names she gave him. Devin arrives. Inner voice: I will meet with the person who worked with my father to hurt me in the worst way possible. I have no choice but to work with her (Hulya). If we are in mortal danger right now, she’s the only one I can trust.

Isko says they have a waiter from the wedding who might have seen something. The waiter says he saw someone walking to the bridal room. A description? The waiter says he only saw him for a moment with his back turned. He had a strange gait. He took one long stride and then a short one. And he kept tapping the wall as he walked.

Devin figures the guy has OCD. He repeats patterns, impulses or movements. We cut to the guy walking the streets and he’s doing all those things. The waiter leaves.

Turgut has a drive with some camera footage. He says that half of the guests were hitmen. Some other cameras at the venue were not working. Hulya wonders how that would have gotten past Nedret and Bedri.

Isko mentions something else that happened on the morning Aslan was shot. He tells Hulya about the new partner at the marina. That meant that Nedret and Bedri would get their money back and be removed from the partnership. Aslan told them about this before he was shot. Hulya thinks about Bedri’s henna night threat against Aslan.

And we are out.

If OCD guy looks familiar to you, he played that creep Serdar, dopey Cinar’s friend, on Secretos de Familia.

Dondi, MANY THANKS for yet another wonderful recap. I found it very helpful, and I enjoyed your side comments.

I must admit, I've never before encountered a dizi or telenovela that I found as confusing as this one. For example, why was Melek sitting on the floor? Where was she? I understood a while back that if Melek died, Leyla would be blamed and might never get out of prison. But since Melek had apparently recovered, why is Leyla still in jail? Why does Melek think she has to die in order for her daughter to live?

IMHO, the writers went beyond the pale in having someone on television speak about Aslan's MURDER. Though I wasn't sure I heard correctly, a short time later someone says something like "now that he's gone...." That made me think that in fact perhaps Aslan really had been killed, as unlikely as it seemed. Of course, shortly after this, we see the hospital scenes and realize that Aslan, though badly wounded, is still alive. But come on, writers, murder means murder.

Well, I added a new word to my feeble Spanish vocabulary: trastorno, meaning disorder, as in trastorno obsesivo compulsivo. I wasn't thinking about TOC/OCD when I saw the assassin pour some kind of liquid on his hands, nor when he knocked on doors as he proceeded to the room where he planned to kill Aslan. In fact, I thought he was knocking on the doors to give a sign to guys he was working with. I'm hoping his TOC/OCD symptoms make him fairly easy to find.

I was a bit surprised that the doctor who was describing Aslan's condition and kept stressing how much blood he lost didn't ask for any blood donors among the assorted family and friends.

I wonder who was on the list of names Hulya asked Arif to check.

Lots to wonder about over the weekend. Again, dondi, many thanks!

Dondi, thank you for that excellent recap.

Wow, this dizi is so violent. Now, the galan gets shot ..three times ? It looked like the guy shot him in each shoulder and then in the stomach...is that part of this guys OCD?
What is the bridal room ? I though Asian was in the men' s bathroom , but with the fancy mirror and sofa , I then thought it was the ladies' room .

Now, we know the reason Devin was wearing that black avantgarde outfit....so she would look fierce as she reacted to Asian being shot .

We all seem to love sensitive Turgut...who we have seen beating up guys left and right for his jefe. Susan

Thanks a million, dondi, for that terrific recap. Your asides were right on.

Thanks also for mentioning the OCD guy. I spent some time last night trying to remember him and finally came up with the skuzzy guy who kept trying to tempt Cinar back into crime in Secretos de Sangre.

I thought of this before and can't remember if I put up a comment. Elif is interesting. She wears the hijab, even with her wedding dress. But at one point she said she wasn't interested in having children right away. If her career was mentioned, I don't remember it.

I guess wise Nedret is just the stereotypical blind mother. Aslan should be more cleverer saying things about him to his mother, but he's right.

Bedri did one good thing last night. Putting Yagmur into a car to prevent her making a fool of herself at the wedding. And, yes, neither woman deserves Nese as a mother. A mother with sense would have watched her daughter like a hawk on the night said daughter knows the man she loves is marrying someone else.

Looks like they're going for an Agatha Christie mystery with that many suspects. My money's on Ilyas. I really don't think Cihan would want Aslan dead, despite what he implied in their last conversation.

dondi, amen on "are you satisfied now" vis a vis the scheming Hulya.

Were Aslan and Devin planning to hook up in that "bridal room"? And, do we think that was where Eko and Elif were supposed to consummate their marriage. It seems odd they'd do that in a big public venue.

Melek's poisoning herself was, I suppose, to comply with the original plan for her death to mean her mother and daughter would be provided for. Hulya started it. But maybe Serap had also offered the same if she died. In either case, why would Leyla be blamed for her death when she did it to herself?

Can't believe I posted "more cleverer". I started out with more tactful and then changed to cleverer without noticing a word choice that would have my fantastic 8th grade grammar teacher cringing.

Thanks everyone!

Yes Juanita, this dizi can be confusing. It moves fast. There are a lot of edits and sometimes the translations are off. And being human, I could make a mistake in recapping. I welcome the patio to make corrections or clarifications.

According to Leyla’s cellmate, Melek went to the infirmary. What puzzles me is why there was no guard, nurse or doctor there. I assume Melek was on the floor because she ingested a large amount of drugs to kill herself. So why not sit on the floor and wait?

IIRC, Serap was holding Melek’s daughter and mother so she wouldn’t admit the plot to frame Leyla. If Melek killed herself without admitting anything, Leyla wouldn’t be freed so easily. Melek also assumed Serap would then release and/or help her mother and daughter. Melek changed her mind when Leyla showed her that Serap was arrested. I see that novelera posted a similar thought. We’ll see what happens now because Serap is free.

About the news report. That is an issue of imprecise translation. My fault that I didn’t clarify. The word “suikast” can be assassination or assassination attempt. The "now that he's gone...." should have been translated as “in his absence”. I think I wrote that in the recap.

Safe to assume Hulya has an “Agatha Christie mystery” list with that many suspects. (Thanks, novelera.) Note the death beans that Kiymet served Ilyas. But Ibo and Kemal looked suspicious, too. And they think Aslan was behind Ibo’s attack. I don’t think Cihan did it either.

Susan, yes the sign on the door read “gelin odası”. “What is the bridal room? “ In my experience, banquet halls, especially those that host a lot of weddings, have a room available for the bride’s party/wedding party to use before and during the reception. As a many times bridesmaid and one time bride, I can attest it can be a party before the party.

“Were Aslan and Devin planning to hook up in that "bridal room"? novelera, I believe that was Aslan’s intention. I was hoping he would have sense to lock the door before they got down to it. Oh well, it didn’t work out as planned.

“…do we think that was where Eko and Elif were supposed to consummate their marriage.” No, that’s not what the room is for. Only for horny people like AsDev.

OT

Forgot to mention there was an ad for a new Telemundo Super Series, “La Jefa”, in Friday’s show, starting in February. I assume this will take the place of La Familia. Seems like a rip off of LRDS.

https://nbcuniversalnewsgroup.com/telemundo/2024/10/24/telemundo-studios-begins-production-of-its-new-super-series-la-jefa-with-a-star-studded-cast-led-by-fabiola-guajardo-and-ivan-arana/

Also of note, the great dizi Kara Para Aşk/Black Money Love is leaving Netflix after January 31. Maybe it will come back to TV. I remember before going to Netflix, it was broadcast on a Spanish channel (not Telemundo) as Amor de Contrabando.

I didn’t recognize Cihan without the man bun! Not usually my favorite look but I liked him better with the scruffy look. Plus he blends in with everyone else too much now.

But the guy I do like with a more polished look is Iskoc. If Yagmur has to date a hit man, she should date him. Sure, he’s killed people, but carries himself with less drama than Eko. Yagmur could use a drama-free boyfriend (or at least doesn’t bring it home with him- the Soykan family is anything but drama free).

Elif is interesting to me. Conservative in her religion but not so much socially if she’s putting off kids and keeping the career. Unless her career is actually Tik Tok trad-wife influencer. But she seems smarter and more grounded than that. Although she did choose Eko so maybe not so smart? Whatever. She’s interesting and I wish her well. And I hope she didn’t get blood on her dress like Devin did at her wedding because it was pretty.

We make fun of Mexico’s telenovela medicine when doctors announce private medical info to an entire waiting room, but they don’t have to bother with that in Turkey. Looked like the whole family was going right into surgery with the docs. Saves time I guess?

This show is getting to be a lot. Just put Huyla and Nedret in a cage match, winner takes all for them and their kids. Except Leyla gets out of prison and moves to London or something with her kids no matter who wins. It’s only right.

Gracias, Dondi. No. 1 - You stopped me from driving myself crazy trying to remember where I'd seen that hit man before.

A long while back, Seher said something whimsical about "JR" (from "Dallas"). The writer must be a fan because this epi reminded me of "Who shot JR?"

I was blushing during Aslan's seduction on the dance floor. Barry White has nothing on him. ;>

A shame that now the hotelier is probably no longer going to deal with Aslan. A HEA for me would have been Aslan finally able to clean up the business.

I too don't think Cihan is behind the hit. But with Serap free and Leyla still locked up, I am not liking him.

Aslan's treatment of Nedret is bad. But if I understand it right, to end the deal he was going to give her one and a half times what she invested. The communication between Aslan, Nedret, and Bedri has been pésimo.

Hoping everyone in the path of the snowstorm keeps power and stays warm.
