At Barbie’s Most Boring Wedding ever. Cris convinces Alberto to dance while Ana loks miserable even though she has a good looking guy next to her. Cris and Al inappropriately make out on the dance floor and Ana eventually leaves. Rodrigo has a chat with Ana, who is being a little pissy, but he eventually gets her to smile. Is he from Argentina? I like him and hope he doesn’t turn out to be a thief. Unless he steals from Goria and Enrique. That would be ok and make me like him more.
.
Ramon walks away with the kid while the mom of Clara, who was supposed to be babysitting, chats with someone else. She realizes and goes off in search of Mickael (the kid).
.
Back at the wedding and the worst tradition ever- the throwing of the bouquet. Cris catches it, naturally? Enrique goes to chat with Valeria, who tells him she essentially doesn’t believe in weddings and all that. It’s the end of a dream. Might be the end of the dream for Barbie if Enrique acts on the kinds of looks he’s giving Valeria. And Alberto is being a pill to Ana, gives her the day off but does it in a very annoying way. Ana and Rodrigo say good night, and Rodrigo hopes she’ll tell him the sadness she’s hiding, or something like that. He seems good so far. But then Pedro comes in to tell her Michael is missing! The group of Luisa, Marga, Clara, Pedro, Ana, Mom, and Rodrigo, are together worrying about Michael. But then Ramon brings back the child after a super fun day. Luisa very calmly insists that the next time he wants to see Michael, he leave a phone number. Ramon fake apologizes about his phone being off and then tell threatens that he’ll see the boy any time he wants. When can he get murdered?
.
Cris and Al get it on after he wedding.
.
Ana and crew try to convince Luisa to file a domestic abuse charge against Ramon, but she’s worried about money. But Blanca shows up out of nowhere (it seems) to offer someone she knows to help pay for the lawyer and take care of the divorce before something grave happens. Yay Blanca!
.
Cris and Al again. Al is making good on his promise to her father. Pffft.
.
They wake up the next day together and Cris says something about being his esposa but he’s still asleep. Scary music plays as she fingers stuff on his table and almost pulls out a pic of him and Ana together. But he stirs and distracts her before she sees it.
.
Ana for some reason says good night to Rod. Clara says a bunch of words to her that I can’t catch and wish I had taken a pic of the captions. They are supportive of her.
.
Jenny has moved her sexy webcam business from the super secret storage room to her bedroom where her mother interrupts by talking to her through the door. Get a hotel, Jenny.
.
Al finally wakes up and Cris tells him it was the best night of her life. He looks like he doesn’t remember anything. She’s smooching on him, which, gross. Make him brush his teeth first.
.
Susan comes to Pedro to dump the kid with him for a few days for an “emergency”. We knew this would happen, right? The kid calls him papi and gives him a hug but doesn’t look happy about this. (Time for a dna test, Pedro).
Monday, #16, 2 of 3
.
Ana talks to Marga and I think she’s talking about Alberto and how he suffers so much. Marga isn’t having it. Then Pedro drags Marga off to see what’s happening with his day. Ana has gone to see Al and sees him kissing Cris and maybe she’s finally realizing he’s in the “sucks” column now? Why would she give up Rodrigo for this nonsense? I don’t know what Clara said to her the night before but I’m pretty sure she was right.
.
Cris tells Al how special the sex night was and she kisses him again while Ana still watches. Al finally gets rid of her while she does the walk of shame back home in the dress she was wearing last night. Al has never looked happy this whole time.
.
Pedro and Marga watch Susan’s annoying kid. Pedro tells him Susan left the child with him even though the child has just met him, and then Pedro tries to pawn him off on Marga.
.
Ana is in a state and almost gets hit by cars as Rodrigo calls. She drops her phone in the street and stops.
.
Gloria gets all Gloria-esque with Al about Ana and how hurt she must have been. Al finally tells Gloria to butt out of his private life.
.
Blanca takes Luisa to the attorney and Luisa asks why she’s doing this for her. The answer is basically that women stick together. Kinds sounds like Blanca is making up for what she didn’t do with the father of his child whose name I can’t remember except that it’s Carlos Ponce.
.
Ana has gotten out of the street and is with Rodrigo. He wants her to trust him and tell him what’s wrong. He doesn’t know if she wants to see him again or what but ask if the man who broke her heart is Alberto Marquez. Ana cries and asks how he knew. He’s very nice about it and is worries that he’s the boss of the company she works for. Ana explains that they’ve known each other for years, his family never would have accepted her, etc. Then she cries about having seen them outside his building and she apologizes to Rod about all this.
.
Blanca comes to work and asks what Jenny is up to but Jen gives her mom attitude. Blanca is annoyed she did that in front of her employees and Jen says something about her only caring about appearances. Max tells her to knock it off but she’s not listening to him either.
.
Marga colors with the boys whose name I don’t know yet. Pedro gives him a walkie talkie to call Pedro whenever the kid wants. It’s just like the bomberos use! The kid asks if clowns use them too. Ha! Good one, Kid. Marga tells him they’ll work this out today but then he needs to find someone else to watch the kid. (Nice to see she’s not going to be a doormat).
.
Mateo gives Al props for spending the night with Cris, or something. But Al tells him he was picturing Ana. Mateo tells him everything will be fine but Al disagrees.
.
Enrique talks to the sales crew and Max gets accolades. Marga sees Pedro in the store and it seems Peter (the kid has a name!) but he’s disappeared.
Monday, #16, 3 of 3
.
Mateo and Clara are smooching when Pedro comes in yelling for Peter and he sees them together. Cara de Surprise! De Pedro. And guess where Peter has been? Hiding right there. And he starts chanting “Clara tiene un novio, Clara tiene un novio…” (Maybe let Clara’s mother watch him from now on and see if someone won’t kidnap him to an amusement park). (Also when did Mateo and Clara start in with this? I thought they were still at the flirting stage?)
.
Pedro spills his guts to Marga of all people. He understands now why Clara wouldn’t marry him when he thought it was because of the kid. Emilio finds out about Peter and Marga offers to see if her mother can watch the boy. (Ha!). Emilio talks to the boy about his father having to work and not running all over the store. I missed what the kid said back but Emilio just about rolled his eyes at impertinence.
.
Ana cries to Marga about seeing Cris and Al and Marga says maybe nothing happened? (
.
Al asks Raul to do something I miss and Raul says it’s impossible! But Al says nothing is impossible for him and he walks away leaving Raul to figure things out.
.
Jenny talks to someone about getting paid 5,000 dollars to so something. Max was eavesdropping and tells her what she’s doing is dangerous and wants to talk to her. She’s not interested until he threatens to talk to her right there on the sales floor, so she agrees. We don’t see the convo yet.
.
Cris comes to see Ana with a gift, a bracelet that she says is very fine and elegant (it’s ok, I guess) to thank her for all her work. Ana doesn’t want to accept it but Cris won’t take no for an answer and puts it on Ana’s wrist. Then starts blathering about how great her night was with Al and says Al said “I love you” to her. She’s so happy!
.

"announced on Tuesday the premiere of "Bahar: essence of women", on Monday, July 14 at 10 p.m. Eastern time, replacing the superseries La Jefe."
https://peopleenespanol.com/fecha-estreno-trailer-telenovela-turca-telemundo-bahar-esencia-de-mujer-11751309
Thanks K. I can add Raul has been tasked with having the new collection ready in 2 months. He says not possible, but then rallies his troops to meet the challenge.
Yeah, Enrique and Barbie are headed for divorce court. We haven't seen much of him yet but he was definitely eyeing Valeria.
Jenny set up a meeting with the guy at Petit Pomme so I guess it is a dinner date and likely more, which is why Max is concerned.
K, that was a masterpiece! Your sense of humor is off the charts.
Ana needs her head examined. Unless the writers have a surprise up their sleeves, Rodrigo is a prince! I'd grab him right up.
ITA on it being OK for Rodrigo to steal from Gloria and Enrique. And, yes, Barbie must have some bucks because Enrique obviously would rather bed Valeria than the blonde he married, the icy one.
Clara and Margarita's mother is in the running for crappiest mother of 2025. They showed the father on the Miami trip, and he seemed like an OK guy. This woman treats Clara like gold and Marga like a stepchild. And she thinks the most sincere guy in NYC is a bad choice.
K, you asked about when Ramon could be murdered. Maybe we could set up a telenovela crossover and have one of Nacho's hired thugs from La Jefa>/i> do in Ramon.
Gah! I can't believe they went with Alberto imagining he was making love to Ana so he could, ahem, perform with Cristina. Speaking of Cristina, I was waiting for them to show the Empire State Building trembling from the outrage she'd express if she'd looked at that photo of Al and Ana.
Al's jumping Cris's bones was confirmed by Ana seeing her "the morning after" in that dress with almost no material from the waist up.
I'm glad you wrote how annoying Susan's kid is. The best kids are appearing on La Jefa. I like Miguel and Amanda a lot. And I sorta like Dani.
¡Al fin! We hopefully have seen the last of Pedro mooning over Clara, who's beyond bored with him, as are we all.
I loved "Let Clara's mother watch Peter so he can be kidnapped and taken to an amusement park."
As Kat added, Alberto gave Raúl 2 months to have the "new line" ready to sell to supposedly eager customers. Pretty sure this is so he won't have to pretend to be in love with Cristina for the more than 6 months they'd been projecting.
Jennifer has to be dumber than she looks if she thinks she's getting $5,000 for just meeting with her online admirer.
Wow, K. I loved this delightful recap. I wish the novela had more of your great sense of humor.
Yes, I too think Rodrigo is a very attractive good guy. The only thing that surprises me is his determination to win over a young woman he has only met a few days ago and who has given him no reason to hope. Oops, I forgot--it's a telenovela.
One thing that I kinda like about the novela so far is that it's not really grim. I mean, yes, Michael disappears, but there are no ransom notes, no threats. Ramon returns him later the same day, and apparently Michael had a good time.
Blanca seems to be moving from "sucks" to "doesn't suck." She is very kind to Luisa, not only giving her good advice but offering to pay for the lawyer she is recommending. (BTW, I think the guy who fathered Blanca's son is Esteban Márquez, Benjamin's brother.)
As for Alfredo, I see him on a see-saw moving back and forth between "doesn't suck" and "sucks." The poor guy even sees a vision of Ana as he's kissing Cris.
I like Marga, and she likes Pedro, but although Pedro seems to belong in the "doesn't suck" category, I really am not a fan, and I'd like to see Marga do better than Pedro. Pedro is such a klutz. Is he ever going to think about a DNA test? And even if it turns out he IS Peter's bio daddy, I hate to think of Pedro being married to Susan, who I think definitely sucks.
I think Max was right to warn Jennifer not to go see the guy who is paying her megabucks for sexy videos. I suspect the novela will not kill her off, but I'll be surprised if she doesn't wind up in the hospital. Heck, anyone who would pay $5000 for a sexy video has got to be somewhat deranged.
So Pedro finally knows that Clara hasn't been true to him, and that her feelings have little or nothing to do with his having an 8-year-old son.
What happens now? Does Pedro decide to marry Susan? Ugh! He deserves better. Will he wind up with Marga, who apparently does love him? She deserves better, though perhaps he'll make some kind of magic transformation. I'm not holding my breath.
Again, many thanks!
I see I did it again. Somehow incorrectly typed the html stuff that STOPS italics I use for Spanish words. And, I got to see once again, that if it's a long comment I am unable to delete it and repost it with my corrections. I guess Carayers here will have to suffer through all those italics. Mea culpa.
Deb: Isn't "BAHAR" one of those Turkish dramas ? If so, I will NOT be watching period.
On "JEFA": Gut feeling we'll be getting a 2nd Season.
I’m hoping we start seeing more of Gloria soon. For the last few episodes she’s been having a scant one or two scenes. Aylín Mújica is one of my favorite villanas. It’s a shame she hasn’t yet had a meatier presence.
Also, I wonder when Danilo Carrera shows up.
The episode started a few minutes late because Miss Universe Latina ran over. In spite of that, we again had to see Cris telling Ana that Alberto has said "Te amo" to her. She goes on babbling about how happy she is. Ana tells her she's not the right person for Cris to talk to about her love life, but Cris continues. As she's talking, Alberto comes by, and of course Cris kisses him on the lips.
Max asks Jennifer why she's got this, um, side business. Jen makes it clear that it pays a lot better than Velvet. She tells Max to stay out of her life, and "stop eavesdropping or I'll tell people that you stole the necklace." Max replies, "John stole the necklace."
Luisa reports to the other "Velvet girls" on her very positive meeting with the lawyer. All thanks to Blanca. One of the girls says, "Who'd have thought our boss had a heart."
Ana is still upset about Alberto. She tells the girls that she wanted to tell him that Rodrigo is not important to her, but when she went to tell Alberto, she found him with Cris. Ana is afraid Alberto is developing feelings for Cris.
Jen is at a bar, talking to an older man with white hair and a white beard. Apparently this is the guy she has agreed to meet. When she's looking elsewhere, he puts something in the drink she just ordered.
Clara comes by to see Pedro. Peter asks her, "Will you tell him about your novio?" Clara does tell Pedro that she thinks their relationship has run its course, but she didn't want to hurt him. Pedro replies, "You broke my heart." Clara says she hopes they can still be friends. (Yikes--what a response.) Pedro tells her he doesn't know whether he can ever forgive her. "As for being friends, right now I can't."
Alberto comes to see Blanca. He says he realizes that he never asked her what she thought about Raúl's designs. Blanca is surprised that he wants her opinion. He tells her she knows more about Velvet than almost anyone else. Encouraged by what Alberto has said, Blanca replies that Raúl is a true artist. "Everything he does is fresh and new, irreverent and rebellious."
Alberto asks, "isn't that bad?" No, not at all, says Blanca. But she's not sure whether Velvet's customers will understand Raúl's work and whether they'll buy his dresses. She says, "Sometimes change should be slow and gradual, not so extreme." (Clearly, there's more to Blanca than I thought.)
The scene shifts to Clara and Mateo. Clara tells Mateo that she does't want to see Pedro suffer. Mateo asks, "What do you want from me?"
Jen has become dizzy thanks to the stuff the guy she's with put in her drink. She wants to go home. He takes her outside. Another guy he came with, perhaps his driver, opens the door of the car to put her inside. But before he can do so, along comes Max and hits the guy hard, then turns to take Jen from Mr. White Beard (since I don't know his name). Max picks Jen up, carries her back to his place, and puts her in bed so she can sleep.
Back to Clara and Mateo. Clara asks what's after being friends? Mateo first suggests "dating" and then "exploratory phase." Clara isn't pleased.
Cris has left. Alberto tells Ana, "We need to talk." Ana tells him that she saw him and Cris leave his place together. Alberto is surprised and unhappy that she saw this. He tries to tell her that he had a lot to drink. She replies that he shouldn't use drink as an excuse.
Conscious, Jennifer asks, "Do you care for me, Max?" She answers the question for him: "You don't care, not even my mother loves me. I'm alone." Blanca arrives at Max's. She thinks they should call the police. Max firmly insists that that wouldn't be wise.
Alberto has to go to Mexico. Indeed, to Oaxaca, where Ana's mother was from. He was planning to go with Mateo, but Mateo has important financial matters to discuss in a meeting with the bank and can't go. Needless to say, Cris says she'll go instead. Alberto tries to discourage her, but of course he doesn't succeed.
Rodrigo meets Ana in a cafe. He tells her he told someone named Sophie Blum that he has a friend who is a very talented designer. He showed her some of Ana's designs that were on social media. "Sophie would like to meet with you tomorrow."
Ana asks Emilio whether he knows Sophie Blum. He does. He tells Ana that Sophie has an extraordinary reputation in the field. Ana responds, "It would be a dream if she hired me." Emilio asks whether, if Sophie offers her a job, would she leave Velvet. "Absolutely!" replies Ana. "That would be the best thing that could happen to me." Emilio adds, "God closes one door but opens another."
Clara and Marga are at their mother's place. I found the scene yawn-producing. Apparently the mother has gotten free Asian food to take out, probably thanks to Mr. Kung, who arrives for their date.
Blanca is with Jennifer. She tells Jennifer, "I want to help you." Jennifer says she just wants to rest.
Ana goes to meet Sophie Blum at her business. Sophie says she doesn't like to waste time, and asks to see Ana's designs. Ana hands them to her. She looks at them but says nothing and remains expressionless. She then says, "I give opportunity to emerging designers. The best. There's a dress missing from my collection. If you can bring me that dress tomorrow, I might give you a chance."
Ana returns to Velvet and tells the Velvet girls about her experience with Sophie Blum. It seems all but impossible for her to find "the missing dress," not a design but a finished dress, by the next day.
Jen, now recovered from being drugged, thanks Max for coming to her rescue. She tells him she's decided to quit the business. Max is happy to hear that. Jen tries to get close to Max. Finally she asks, "Why do you always repel me?" Max tells her he's in love with someone else. (Perhaps he's saying this just to discourage her advances, but I find myself wondering whether the "someone else" might be male.)
The girls and Raúl are trying to come up with a design they can turn into a finished dress by the next day. Gloria arrives and asks to see what Raúl is working on. He shows her. She's no fan of his and lets him know that. After she leaves, Raúl is devastated. He feels he's under too much pressure to come up with something worthy. "I'm finished. Finished! Those designs weren't enough. What if the collection won't succeed?" Ana replies, "It's possible, but we won't know until we try." She tells him not to listen to Gloria. "Alberto is head of Velvet, and he likes your work. Listen to him."
In Oaxaca, Alberto visits one of his most important factories (I think). He tells the workers that his plan is to modernize Velvet, and their business is the jewel in the crown. His father thought so, and that won't change. Everyone applauds.
Emilio is angry that Max left work for several hours without permission. He wants to report Max to some office or other (I'm not sure about this). Max says that he's sorry, it won't happen again, it was an emergency. Emilio is unmoved. Suddenly Jen appears and tells Emilio that Max left to help her, that she ahd been drugged at a bar. "If anyone deserves to be punished, it's me, not Max." She also tells Emilio that she's quitting Velvet.
Ana tells Rodrigo that Sophie wants the "missing dress" by tomorrow. Rod says something like "Let me do more for you."
Cris and Alberto are at a restaurant in Oaxaca. Cris know that Ana's mother died in a fire. Alberto says she sacrificed her life for others.
Cris wants to give Ana a gift. She tells Alberto, "You know her better. You be in charge of the gift." Oy. On that note, the episode ends.
Thanks Juanita. When Jen was at the bar she was looking at her phone to check that her payment had been received, thus missing the spiked drink. Old guy could also go by graybeard.
The Chinese date actually has a humorous side. The next day when Peter is introduced to Margo's mom ( do we have a name for her?) she started spouting Chinese words in the conversation. Then Pedro's favorite cousin pops in for Pedro to put him up while he visits the big city. Margo's mom decides she isn't needed as babysitter since cousin whatever his name is has come to stay. He can watch Pedro. Pedro is fine with that and gives his new cousin a big hug around the waist. This poor kid. Wonder how many " uncles" he's been introduced to over the years.
I was confused about Sophie and her collection. The best interpretation I could come up with was that one of these things is not like the other and it was up to Ana to find the design that didn't fit into her style and redesign it.
Interesting theory about Max. Maybe he is gay and Raul will have a love interest.
Thanks very much, Kat, for your helpful additions. I completely forgot about the amusing scene where Pedro's cousin appears. I'm glad you added it.
As for the "missing dress," my take on it is that Sophie is saying that she wants a dress unlike any that she already has but worthy of her collection. That would prove to Sophie that Ana is indeed an excellent, creative designer, one who would bring something original to Sophie. Sophie is pretty snotty, and I suspect I'd hate to be her employee, but....
I didn't get any strong gay vibes from Max, but I was surprised when he was so distant when Jennifer was coming on to him, and it occurred to me that perhaps he was gay.
Juanita, perhaps Max is saying there is someone else because he knows Blanca would disapprove, perhaps. There definitely is more to her than meets the eye. Also note she says she has been with the company 30 years so that longevity necklace definitely had to come from someone else
Speculation Time! Maybe Max is still Blanca’s secret long lost son but is also secretly gay and doesn’t want to tell her for fear of rejection? Don’t think he’s high enough on the social ladder to get with Raul but he seems like a good friend to have around.
Shouldn’t Ana be working her tush off on that dress for Sophie? For someone who has to design and MAKE a dress by the next day, she doesn’t seem to be in much of a hurry.
K
Thanks very much, Kat and K, for your stimulating comments.
Kat, I hadn't really thought about Blanca's "30 years" statement. You're right, it's hard to see how she would have been given a necklace acknowledging 25 years of service at Velvet 25 years ago (when her son was born). The plot thickens.
K, I too think Ana should be spending all her time thinking and, hopefully, designing a spectacular dress that can be put together by the next day. But then again, this is a telenovela, and telenovela time often works differently from "real" time (so too telenovela medicine). We'll see if it does this time (fingers crossed).
Thanks for the fine, well written recap, Juanita. It's SO nice to have you back on the patio and snarking away with the rest of us.
Like it is in all TNs, people's jobs are confusing. At least in this one the cast is occasionally shown actually working. They've said since day one that Ana has these design talents, but from what I've seen she's a seamstress under Blanca like the rest of the women.
I do like the ending credits being on a background that looks like basting. I am SO far from being any good at sewing. But waaay back in the day girls took Home Economics, a semester, if I remember correctly of Sewing and one of Cooking. Yikes! Anyway, I had to learn to baste something before sewing it on a TREADLE sewing machine!
Clara really is delusional about thinking Pedro is ready to be her friend. Three years together and then a hissy fit when a woman from 9 years ago shows up. I get comic relief, but please.
Here's a disconnect for me. Supposedly Velvet's fashions were behind the times, but the retail outlet is talking constantly about one or another of the salespersons winning a record for a day's sales?
I came away with the idea that perhaps that driver and/or bodyguard had been in on a previous roofie date with a young woman. He certainly didn't bat an eye at being instructed to load an almost unconscious woman into the car or limo, can't remember which.
I didn't think Raul was there to be in on the plan to get Ana a dress overnight. For some reason he seemed to have come to bare his soul about his feeling that his designs for Velvet were inadequate. IIRC, they vowed to help him.
I almost forgave Alberto listening to his fine speech to the Mexican factory workers.
I think Emilio said he was going to report Max to Human Resources for leaving work in the middle of the day. I think the Emilio actor has done a few villain roles in the past, so when he gets stern, he kind of overdoes it.
Hi, novelera. I always look forward to your insightful comments, and I'm never disappointed.
Yes, Ana's job at Velvet is a bit unclear. As you say, she seems to be a seamstress like the other "Velvet girls." I guess it's possible that she does all her designing when she's at home. But the people at work do seem to know that she's a talented designer, even if that's not her actual position.
Don't get me started on Clara as delusional. Let's just say she's not one of my favorite characters.
I think the salespeople who win daily or weekly awards at Velvet are being awarded just for having the highest total for that day or week. Thus, sales can be falling, but someone is still selling more than the other salespeople on a given day or week, even if the winning sales total is smaller than it has been in the past.
Yes, I agree that the guy who accompanied Mr. White Beard has very likely accompanied him on other, similar occasions. I strongly doubt that this was White Beard's first such event.
You raise an interesting point about Raúl's not being in on the plan to get Ana a dress to bring to Sophie. But I do have the feeling that, having found out about Ana's situation, he'd like to help if he can. Also, I'm not sure he came to bare his soul about being inadequate. I think that came about after his confrontation with Gloria, although it indicates that he's got a surprising amount of insecurity.
And yes, I too had increased positive feelings about Alberto after he delivered the speech to the Oaxaca workers.
Oops, gotta run. Again, many thanks.
After 2 stellar night's of recaps , here come mine after an exhausting day of watching 2 kids. I finally managed to leave the 2 year olds room after she fell asleep. I hope I can stay awake through this. I get to sleep in since I'm spending the night at least.
We get a recap scene of Chris asking Al to get Ana a gift from Oaxaca since he's known her so long.
Margarita and Clara look at a social media post of Mom and Mr. China Man. What is going on with her they wonder.
Jen brings her resignation letter to Emilio. She's giving the usual 2 weeks notice. Emilio asks what her plan is, she has a job offer at a different store. She wants to get out from under her mother's wing. Emilio asks her to think about it for a week. Hell keep the letter but wait to turn it into HR.
Rodrigo brings several bolts of fabric to Ana's place. Margarita is there with her, most likely working on her design. Margarita is a bit snippy with him. Ana is amused.( Ok if Ana doesn't want him then Margarita certainly should get him, he's a better catch than Pedro).
Emilio tells Blanca that Jenny quit. Blanca doesn't understand why. E says she got a job at la tienda Silhouette. He mentions she is young. Blanca is a great woman and mother. Then he asks about what happened at the bar, but Blanca shuts him down. E says he's bought a week for her to reconsider but something is going on. Blanca says she's mad at me. A guy gets off the elevator. I'm like is he someone we should know?
And yes he is. He's Pedro's primo ( waiting for a name) bringing takeout from Mr King Food. (So I get China man's name in this scene. Mr. Kung.). Pedro, who is playing videogames with Peter, wants to know the real story about what he's doing there. Primo says I'm bored in Texas working in dad's mechanic shop. I've come to the big apple to stay with you and get a job at Velvet.
Pilar offers Valeria a job as junior VP in her business..are you interested, she asks.
Clara s mom is eating Chinese with Mr ching who is chattering away with her in Chinese. Mama responds in Spanish. Clara asks do you understand him? Not a bit. He's the perfect guy. No arguing or fighting. Clara accuses her of using him to make dad jealous. Clara kicks me chiming out politely. Clara then tells her mom what's the real story about you and dad. You can't move till you tell me.
Pilar offers lots of perks, but Valeria refuses the offer. She's no rat that abandons a sinking ship.
Primo has a name, Rick. Pedro is off to work. Rick asks him to put a word in for him, he's serious about wanting to work at velvet. Pedro says perhaps you can become the maintenance guy as I am planning to move into sales. Rick seems to want the sales job though. I'm not sure about Rick. He may not be a good guy.
Blanca is making nice to Jenny. She suggests a trip to Italy. Not sure if she means the 2 of them. Jen is shocked, workaholic mom is promoting a vacation!. Blanca then throws in Max as a prize. Jen says what's changed, why is it ok now. Blanca says he's a good guy as I discovered after he rescued you. Jen admits she is into him but he says he has eyes for someone else.
Oaxaca. At the mill Chris and Al discuss Velvet. She offers more money if needed. It's not just daddy's money. It's mine also.
Emilio wakes Ana u who has fallen asleep making the dress. You'll be late for your meeting! Sure enough Ana is 15 minutes late and Sophia refuses to look at her dress or finish the interview. You blew it by coming late. Sophia leaves. Ana races after her and says a vestido de luto is what is missing. Had to look that up. Mourning dress. She mentions queen Elizabeth when her father died becoming the queen not having a proper mourning dress. Sophia is impressed at her historical knowledge and says, come back in a couple of hours for that interview.
Clara and Margarita are in the hall of their apartment building discussing mom and dad and their marital difficulties. Imagine if they get divorced! We inherit mom and Mr King will be by all the time. How awful.
Pedro corners a busy Emilio at work hoping to become a salesman. Emilio says you don't have the knowledge. What's the difference between a day dress and evening wear? Pedro replies price ( he's likely no wrong with that answer). Emilio pars him on the cheek like a pet poodle.
Jen and Max talk. She says I'm quitting. I need to get away from mom. Max says your mother is a great person. He then describes his life as the son of alcoholic parents who hit him and his younger brother. Did Blanca ever hit you? No, Jen admits.
Mateo wants Clara's help in finding a suitable bachelor pad for himself.
Sophia wants Ana to model the dress she made.
Blanca is in the atelier talking to Mar, Raul and Luisa where is Ana? I'm falling asleep watching this I'll finish later.
Ana, in the atelier with Luisa and Marg, tells them about her success in getting a chance with Sophia. She has to return in a few hours. How to get away from velvet is discussed. The girls tell her they told Raul she was missing earlier because of a date. Raul comes over and wants the gossip about a certain tall, dark and handsome guy that recently took her to a wedding.
Al wanders the Oaxaca factory discussing the need for speed once the new fabrics arrive getting the new collection completed.
A dude in a black Stetson, the cowboy of designers, visits Marg. Apparently he used to work at Velvet before branching off and making it big
He gives her some gold scissors.
Blanca and Jen talk outside on break. Jen thanks Blanca for not asking further about the bar incident. Blanca suggests starting again from scratch but Jen shuts down that overture and goes back to work.
Oops, I missed a scene where Alondra ( is this the lady I've been calling Sophia) inspects the mourning dress Ana made that she has Ana model for her. If the dress sells within a week Ana has a job with them. So in the cafeteria at velvet Luisa shows Ana that her divorce papers are all ready. They just need Ramon to sign them and that chapter is over. Marg sits beside them. Ana gets a call from Alondra. Her dress sold in less than a day. She's got the job and look for an email with the particulars. Marg and Luisa share in her excitement.
Jenny steps down the stairs at velvet. The potential new job hasn't called her back. She creeps down because she sees Max. He's talking to Blanca in a close familiar fashion. Jen approaches them. Blanca asks if she's ready to go home. She says she has a date and leaves. Max asks how things are going between them. Blanca says not great. Jenifer is a difficult person and blames herself for doing a bad job raising her. Max says on the contrary she did a great job in difficult circumstances.
The three amigas, aka the velvet girls, return to Ana's apartment. Emilio has bought Ana a present. A top of the line new sewing machine ( the name isn't obvious to me so no free advertising for Juki, Husqvarna or Viking in this show. I'm a vintage sewing machine gal myself. (Novelera, I have a singer treadle, my grandmother's 1949 Singer 66, my mother's 1958 Singer 403A, and my crown jewel Necchi supernova (circa 1961?) in my collection. My youngest machine is a 1975 Kenmore free arm, but I digress). There are two mannequins also. The girls tease him that he no longer has any savings after buying all this for Ana. He tells her she needs the tools if the trade to go with her new job. Rodrigo comes in with a bottle of wine/ champagne to celebrate.
A week later Ana is working at home with a dress on a table with the label Carmen Garza. Alondra asked her to come up with a designer moniker and that was her choice. Carmen in honor of Mama. Garza has some tie to Alberto. Is it the origami birds he made her. She is reaching for them. Emilio tells her she can resign from velvet soon since she is making a name for herself as a designer. I guess she is freelancing at Alondra's.
Mama's bags are packed and she's leaving. She's going to stay with her sister. Bye bye. It was nice (not) knowing you(r name).
Susana comes back for Peter. She's leaving. NY is too expensive with no one helping her. She's taking Peter and going home. Peter has bombed with Pedro and Rick and had a good time playing videogames and soccer. Sure hope it's summer as he hasn't done a lick of learning in this time.
Ana arrives at the back entrance at work. She tries to avoid Alberto who grabs her arm. She is not happy. Rodrigo appears, she's left a folder in his car that she may need. Al gets jealous. Rodrigo says we are seeing each other, is that a problem for you? You just returned from a trip to Mexico with your girlfriend, right? Al leaves. Rodrigo says I really dislike that dog in the manger type of guy. Ana defends his right to speak with her because he's the boss. Rodrigo suggests maybe it's time to work exclusively for Alondra. They arrange to see each other that evening.
At the big house Barbie and Chris effusively greet each other. Barbie is fresh from her honeymoon at some beach which apparently is not her cup of tea, she prefers Milan or Paris, and Chris from her Oaxaca trip. Barbie is happy to hear things are going well with al. Chris explained it was a business trip but they got to spend time getting to know each other better. Barbie asks about their sex life. Chris maintains it was a business trip, but he introduced me to everyone as his girlfriend. Christina thinks it's time for al NY to know that they are officially a couple. Barbie will help her. More hugging and squealing.
Al is complaining to Mateo about Ana. Mateo says let her be happy. Al says I want her to be happy with me, not him. Mateo rolls his eyes, please no more of this same old same old ( I agree). Al just wants the collection to get off the ground so he can discharge his debt to Ortegie. It's time to look for new investors so he can pay them off. Mateo gets mad at him, you're the boss.
Ana meets Luisa at the karaoke bar. I'm thinking it's more an open mike type establishment. Wonder who watches Michael these nights, did Ramon get some visitation? Alberto arrives wanting to talk to Ana. He tells her he has secured alternate investors and he's going to pay off his Ortegie debt. Ana isn't interested. He asks if it's Rodrigo. She says you just spent a vacay with Chris, that's the problem. She is tired of his jealousy. She gets up to leave and Al grabs her arm. Rodrigo to the rescue. They leave but Al isn't done he now grabs Rodrigo by the arm and punches him in the face. Bar fight!!!
Blanca calls someone at Silhouette about Jen's application. Blanca has done something for her in the past so she's calling in favors, and BTW, this conversation never happened.

Blanca and Jen talk outside on break. Jen thanks Blanca for not asking further about the bar incident. Blanca suggests starting again from scratch but Jen shuts down that overture and goes back to work.

It did not stick so a moderator will have to retrieve it for me. Either version, though the one I posted at 7 a.m. has Velvet #18 part 3 in it, but it is out of order....
Wow! Thanks very much, Kat, for this excellent, comprehensive recap. It's too bad that section 3 went missing. I was able to retrieve it, but the software recognized that it was entered later than the rest of the recap, and there was nothing I could do to put it where it should have gone. At least it's up and available (and clearly marked as Part 3).
One of the first things I recall about this episode is Cris's remark to Alberto that "all three of us" (i.e., including Ana) lost our mothers when we were young. I'm not sure whether this will prove to be significant; at the moment, I don't see how.
Didn't Jen ask Emilio not to tell her mother that she was going to take a job at Silhouette? If she did, I don't recall what if anything he said. All I remember is that I was surprised when, not long after this, Emilio does tell Blanca about Jen's plans. (Frankly, I was somewhat disappointed in Blanca's then putting the kibosh on Jen's being hired at Silhouette.)
Yes, I agree that Rodrigo would be a better catch for Marga than Pedro. The more I see of Rodrigo, the more I think he might be a better catch for Ana as well, but I'm sure that's not going to happen.
Pedro's primo, Rick, seems almost as clueless as Pedro about what Velvet does and what qualifications one needs to work there in sales.
Hmmm...the scene between Pilar and Valeria makes me think I may have to rethink my dislike of Valeria. Pilar's offer was very attractive, but Valeria recognized that what Pilar is trying to do is sabotage Alberto, and she wants no part of that. She tells Pilar, "I won't be a pawn in your game."
Wow, I loved the scene where Ana rattles off to Sophia the story of Britain's Princess Elizabeth's rushing home when her father, the king, dies, only to be unable to get off the plane because she doesn't have a black mourning dress. (I think the story is probably true.)
Are we supposed to recognize the guy in a black Stetson who visits Marga?
I too was mystified about the meaning of Garza and its connection to Alberto. You were right--I looked the word up and it refers to a white wading bird with a long neck and long legs, which I guess is sorta kinda like the origami birds Alberto made for her.
I suppose we're to think that Alberto's slamming his fist into Rodrigo's face is simply an indication of his passion for Ana. Yuck. I'm finding myself more and more on Team Rodrigo.
Again, many thanks!
Juanita
Thanks for some additions I missed. I did recall the mention of the 3 losing there mother's young, but since it was the previous episode I skipped it ( I have enough to type without retelling the first scene )
Thanks for looking up Garza. I probably won't remember it but here's hoping it sticks.
The addition about princess Elizabeth is great. I was watching the show on my tablet last night and when I FF through commercials sometimes I accidentally hit forward to the next show in my library. That's what happened at that point so when I got the show back and tried to find my spot again I skipped over the princess Elizabeth story. I didn't understand it as well as you. I just knew that she didn't have a mounting dress. The fact she needed it to leave the plane makes a lot more sense.
Thank you for recovering the missing post. I fell asleep before 11 last night so then I woke up around 4 a.m. ( the main reason I stay up til midnight now, I don't want to get up in the middle of the night and that's what happens if I fall asleep too early. I'll be hurting tonight though as I have been up since then. I think the post without velvet part 3 was posted around 4:30 a.m. did you see that one?
BTW, is anyone doing tonight's episode? Last week I ended up doing Thursday also so I don't think we have a recapper for it on Thursdays yet.
I've lost my internet at home. I've been trying to get it resolved with no luck so far. I'm already 2 days behind on the shows. If it doesnt get fixed tonight, I won't be able to watch or do a Friday recap. I'm not back at work until Monday morning. This doesn't look good. i'll try to keep you informed.
Dondi, sure hope it gets resolved for you. You do the Friday recap usually, right? In a pinch I can cover for you, or we can just do a couple of observation posts rather than an actual recap.
thank you Kat. Tech is coming on Saturday morning. Hoping to get service back then. I do the Friday Jefa recap so dont worry about that. Do whatever we do for Velvet.
The guy in the Stetson is Carlos “Caramelo” Cruz. He won the latest season of “La casa de los famosos.” It seems that he, like Prince Royce and Jacqueline Bracamontes, is just a celebrity guest spot.
It’s good to see Ana be happy about something other than Alberto. Her joy at being offered the job by Alondra was nice to see. I feel like she’s been crying for the majority of the novela, so it’s good to finally see her joyful and empowered. I hope it lasts.
