A.MAR #69 Parte 1 Notes From the Couch . . .

The First Anvil Falls
As he goes speeding along, Javier goes to reach into the glove box to get more drugs and crashes the car into a tree.

Fabián is angry with Oliver for not telling him that his daughter was involved with drugs. Oliver tries to explain that she said she was quitting and had it all under control. He next starts to grill Erika since she is such good friends with his daughter. Erika plays the innocent one and says she knew nothing.

Matilde shows up with the police and tell Fabián they are on the case. He leaves Erika behind and goes searching for his daughter with Estrella.

Yazmín can get out of the car but it looks like Javier is impaled on something. With her almost dead cellphone she manages to call Erika to tell her what happened. Erika says she will send help and come to get her.

Before he takes his last breath, Javier asks Yazmín to forgive him and to have the lovely life she deserves. She tells him to hang on a little longer but he is in agony and cannot breathe. He dies and she collapses next to the car sobbing.

Matilde tells Fabián that there was an accident on the highway and one fatality. He and Estrella go to see if it is Yazmín. When he sees the crashed car, he relives what he experienced in the crash with his family. he is relieved that it is not Yazmín under the sheet. She has been transferred to the health center.

Erika visits with the bandaged Yazmín in the hospital. Erika tells her that Fabián knows all about the pills but that Yazmín needs to be carful that he doesn't find out that she was involved in getting those pills for her. Friends don't tell on friends. Yazmín assures her she won't say a thing. She thanks Ericka for being there for her.

Fabián visits Yazmín. He was so afraid that he had lost her. She apologizes. He says she has no reason to apologize. Nothing could ever change his love for her. HIs love for her is unconditional. She finally calls him "papá". He asks why she called Erika. She explains that Erica has always made her feel understood without judging her. She goes on to say when Javier died, it made her think of her mother when they had the accident and now she understands how desperate he must have felt trying to get her out of the car. She always blamed him but after going through what she did, she realizes how unfair she was with him. She was such a fool. She is so sorry for treating him like she did and asks him from the bottom of her heart to forgive her. He tells her that there is nothing to forgive her for. She is all he has. She is his daughter and he will always love her.

At the hospital, Gonzalo thanks Erika for caring for Yazmín. Erika says it was not a problem. She has come to love the girl as her own daughter. When Erika sees Estrella she asks what she is there for. Is she there to steal Fabián's attention for herself as usual? Estrella decides to leave. Erika smirks.

Fabián thanks Erika for supporting his daughter. She asks if Yazmín told him anything about her addiction. He says no and that he would leave that discussion go until she is feeling calmer. Erika offers her support to be there when that time comes. Fabián thanks her. She grabs his hands and holds them. He is uncomfortable.

With Yazmín not being allowed any more visitors, Oliver gets creative and dons a white jacket. He assures her that none of this is her fault. She says she loves him and forgives him. He is sure they will get through this. He was so afraid he had lost her. He kisses her on the forehead.
 

A.MAR Parte 2

The Accidental Proposal or NO WAY OUT
Valentín is chatting with Nemesio at the restaurant. Valentín talks about how much he loves Perla and how he would do anything for her. Nemesio thinks he means he would do anything for her short of marrying her. Valentín says he would like to marry her one day but wants to enjoy being novios first. Nemesio tells him that marriage comes with a lot of responsibility and a lot of expenses. It never ends. He should put it off as long as he can and keep that rope off his neck. That being said, he says with his new job he was able to buy Teresita a ring. He shows Valentín a beautiful blue sapphire ring. It is an anniversary and also reconciliation gift. Teresita comes to the table and Nemesio slips the ring to Valentín to hide. Nemesio goes with his wife to help her move some boxes.

Valentín takes the ring out of the box to look at it more closely. He drops it on the floor. He gets down on his knees to pick it up. When he picks it up and looks up, Perla is standing in front of him announcing that YES! she will marry him. He is stunned as Meche announces that Perla is getting married. Everyone at the restaurant applauds. Perla grabs the ring, puts it on and cries
Meche welcomes him to the family. Teresita admires her ring. Perla kisses him. He enjoys the kiss.

Marina Defines Who She Is and Who She Isn't
Marina tells Nicolás that she is still hopeful she will find her son. He says he will be getting a report from the adoption registry tomorrow. He is hopeful that the three of them will be back together. Marina reminds him that she already has a family. She wants Nicolás to respect that because she is no longer Antonia. He asks if she is going to ignore the memory she had of him. She makes it clear it was nothing but a memory to her. He counters that by reminding her that some things never change like her never having been a good liar.

Marina tells Gabriel all about the trip to the beach house and what she remembered. He seems to feel threatened as she describes what she remembered and felt. She tries to assure him telling him that she was once in love with Nicolás but that was then. Now her heart belongs to Gabriel and she is satisfied with that.

Estrella Makes a Move
Estrella talks to Azul about he day at school. She says that Iker wasn't there. It turns out that she has no other friends because her classmates dislike her because of her father's fishing company. Estrella asks if she misses her friends in Mexico City. She does even though Iker is her best friend ever. She didn't have so many problems when they lived there and now her father moved back there and won't be near her. Estrella asks her if she would like to move back to Mexico City.

Azul tells Iker she is moving back to Mexico City.

That night at supper, everyone toasts Perla and Valentín on their engagement. Then Estrella makes her announcement. She and Azul will be heading back to live in Mexico City the next day. They have a one way ticket. Her old boss has arranged an interview for her the day after tomorrow. Perla asks if Fabián had anything to do with this. Estrella says yes but so many other things also contributed to her making this decision.She promises them she will be in much closer contact this time. She will be at Perla's wedding. She will send money to them when she can. Meche understands that she has to follow her own path.
 

A.MAR Parte 3

Pascual Make His Move
Pascual is picking up Brisa's dirty clothes off the floor and is sniffing a towel(?)
Anyway, Brisa comes in asking what he is doing. He explains he is going to do laundry. She fills him in on the latest news from her family. It is TERRIBLE. First of all, Estrella is moving back to Mexico City but the worst thing is that Perla is getting married! Everyone thought she would be an old maid. Pascual is actually happy for Perla and Valentín. Brisa can only wonder what is wrong with her that nobody can fall in love with her. Pascual says there is nothing wrong with her. She is very pretty and there are a lot of good things about her. He thinks that the right person just hasn't shown up yet. It might be like in the fairy tales. You have to kiss a toad to find your Prince Charming. Pascual kisses her.

That sure was some ending! I never expected: Estrella to move back to Mexico City or Pascual to have enough nerve to kiss Brisa. More mañana.

Novelera – I saw Atila in the cast lineup for the second season. I so hope he doesn’t just appear in flashbacks! Where would our story be without Atila?

Boy, Hande sure is not cut out for motherhood. And she thinks she wants her own kids! There she was thinking they’d just have the kids sometimes. Her plan sure is backfiring. Well, Reha may not do any of the work, but he is very affectionate with the kids. In the scene where he dropped them off at the new school was nice, plenty of affection.

I’m enjoying Filiz’s handling of the flower lady. I love how unflappable and determined she is. Go Filiz!

I wonder about their having decided Hasan is a good man. I guess that’s where the story is going, but if you’ve ordered people killed, how good a man can you be?

Jarifa, what an excellent recap! You hit the ground running and never looked back.

This was another fantastic episode with things moving in record speed in surprising directions!

First things first, Yaz is safe and seemingly sound. Javier is not. Sorry (not sorry). The aftermath was well done; the fear and tension palpable. Fabian zipping open the body bag was so tense. Yaz did say "Fabian" at first when he flew to her bedside and I didn't hear her call him "papa" so thank you for explaining that. FINALLY!

I readily admit "He asks if she is going to ignore the memory she had of him. She makes it clear it was nothing but a memory to her. He counters that by reminding her that some things never change like her never having been a good liar" unnerved me. There is something about Nicolas that bothers me (aside from the obvious he is the fly in the ointment between Gabriel and Marina). I need to know what the "secret" is, that may contain the answer. Is it just me or did Marina look a bit doubtful for a minute or two before leaving Nicolas?

Estrella chooses flight, not fight.

I enjoyed Pascual's attempted kiss. A surprise but the boy has gumption.

Jarifa, another outstanding recap. I am just loving this story - thank you!

"The Accidental Proposal or NO WAY OUTI" was exactly right". I thought the Valentin "proposal" was very well done. The look on his face! The guy cannot catch a break. He looked happy at the dinner but I'm sure the thought as to how he will ever pay for the ring (and Nemisio's wrath) were uppermost in his mind. Ready or not, time to wed!

Thanks, Diana. The highlight for me last night was that proposal. What a well-written, well-executed comedy scene! I never saw that coming. Perla’s exuberance was off the charts as Valentín saw his bachelorhood slip slipping away. . . I, too, wonder how much $$$ he will owe Nemesio and how he will deal with Nemesio’s wrath.

I agree there is something unsettling about Nicolás. He seems to be so nice but then a pushy side emerges at the same time. Marina looked odd to me throughout the episode. Poor Gabriel was left with a lot to think about . Here is hoping we have more scenes with that aqua shirt.

I was glad that they gave all the time they did for Fabián and Yazmín to heal their relationship. Too bad that Erika managed to position herself perfectly to protect her reputation with Fabián and increase her value to him. She was so obnoxious to Estrella.

I wonder if Estrella will say goodbye to Fabián or if he will find out she has just gone.

“. . . the boy has gumption.” I agree with you there. I NEVER saw that coming either. If they can “un-schmuck” him, he might turn out okay. What will the fallout from the kiss be? Will there be one, two, or three weddings coming up?

I think there definitely is hope for Pascual! It will be interesting to see how Brisa handles it. I don't think she has given up her dogged pursuit of Gabriel. Yet.

I can’t believe poor Valentín. I actually decided he has the looks but Pascual is much more “on the ball” in every other way. I kept waiting for Valentín to explain but really Perla didn’t give him much time. She said yes and actually grabes the ring and put it on her finger without hearing a word from Valentín. I guess it didn’t help that her mother chimed in too, all excited. I feel sorry for Nemesio and Teresita. She said it was her favorite color/stone. I hope Valentín gets the nerve to tell Brisa the truth.

When the accident happened I wondered if Yazmín would have a flashback. She didn’t but she did realize sometimes there’s nothing you can do. She and Fabian’s relationship will be good, I just hope Erika isn’t around all the time!

I was surprised Estrella decided so suddenly to move back to Mexico City. I wonder if it was Sergio’s threats or her feeling Fabián was now off-limits. I knew the kids had been mean to Azul but didn’t realize they were still not friendly.

A lot still has to happen with Marina’s story, and Íker. It should be interesting!

I liked how Lale lit into Hande with the way she was talking in front of them(mainly Denis)about them, in a very negative manner. And not feeding them. Lale seems to know a lot more about kids than Hande. I hope she gets behind Karsu and helps her get the kids back.

I don’t think it’s a good idea for Karsu to keep trying to see the kids, even from afar. And trying to get a job where they work doesn’t seem like a good idea.

I loved the scene between Hasan and Mert, it didn’t take long for Hasan to hug back! And Mert gets to bring his cat, hope he doesn’t get the birds, who seem to go to work with Hasan.

I’m happy Filiz is back to smiling and being pleasant with Hasan. And hopefully she’ll be good at that job!

I was surprised at how good Reha was with the kids. I’ve never seen him interact like that before.

The last Turkish novela I saw was Daughter of the Ambassador. The first part did seem to wrap up, but not a happily ever after. I can’t remember how much time there was between the two parts. I hope we don’t have to wait too long.

Poor Perla if she finds out that the proposal was a mistake after all of the time and effort she has invested in goofy Valentín. It was interesting to see Lale realize Hande is not going to be good for the kids that Lale loves. Also, Reha has genuine affection for his kids. Too bad the two siblings react inappropriately to challenges and loss. Hande is Reha’s wife, so not as easily tossed aside.

I enjoyed watching Mert and Hasan reconcile. Hoping to see Filiz continue to win out over Hulya, her competition.

Thanks, Maggie, for letting me know that Atilla will return. He's my favorite galán of the 3 I'm watching: 2 dizis and one TN.

I fully expect Karsu to spend some time as a cleaning lady at the pricey private school. IIRC she did that already to augment her income from the secondhand clothing store.

I have high hopes for the lawyer Irmak knew from when she had rich people contacts. I simply can't imagine that Reha will be able to retain custody the whole rest of this season. As we predicted, Tilsim seems perfectly happy with the arrangement of living with her father, while Deniz is not. It's interesting that Deniz, who spent years living with another mother, is the most desirous of being back with his mother and at his same old school.

Is the second season a lot longer? This went by pretty quick.

I've seen a lot of scenes with Reha being loving to his kids. Also manipulative. Deniz isn't buying what he's selling though. Novelera, I thought his adoptive mother died pretty soon after kidnapping him and the step dad took over his care, so he really would be craving his mother's affection. He certainly won't get it from Hande. I also agree, Atilla is a favorite of mine also, though Evrin in Bahar is my top ranked galan..

Hasan continues to surprise me, though when we saw beading was a favorite hobby of his, the scary mafia persona took a back seat. I still hope he is a govt sanctioned CIA type agent and not actually a mafioso.
 

A.MAR #70 Notes from the Couch . . . Bare Facts Edition

This was a combo of original all of episode #71 and part of #72.

Brisa is not pleased with "the kiss" as Pascual is. He says he was just trying to cheer her up but then admits he did it because he felt like it. She makes it clear that nobody is to find out about it. She storms out. Pascual smiles.

We find Fabián, looking fine in his watermelon colored shirt, twisting himself into anything that Estrella needs him to be. She needs him to give jobs to Perla and Oliver. He says he will but what about her? Estrella tells Fabián she is moving back to Mexico City for good. Why? There are so many reasons. She has had it! She reminds him they are no longer a couple. They both have daughters they need to care for. She explains that Sergio wants to fight for custody of Azul and she doesn't want to put Azul through that. He says they can still be together and fight for their daughters. She thinks not. Estrella thanks him for everything he did to help her.

Erika says goodbye to Estrella and tells her she will take VERY good care of Fabián.

Estrella is ready to go having said goodbye to her family and notices that Fabián didn't come by for a final goodbye.

Iker and Azul have a hard time saying goodbye. As they are on the highway, Azul notices her mom is sad and asks if she wants to turn around. No, Estrella says anytime you gain something, you lose something. Azul notices Fabián's SUV flashing his lights at them from behind. Estrella stops and Iker runs to hug Azul. Estrella hopes Fabián isn't going to ask her to go back with him again. He says no it was because of Iker who has written a letter to Azul telling her how he feels about her. He begs Estrella not to take Azul away. He has written Azul a letter telling her how he feels about her. Azul is not sure how she feels about him that he now has said that he "likes" her. She thinks of him as her friend . . . but her very best friend! Fabián gives Estrella one last hug wishing her a good trip. He tells her how much he is going to miss her. They both wish that the other finds what they are looking for.

Perla is going to have an engagement party at Erika's restaurant. Erika will foot the bill as her gift to her half sister. Valentín is going to tell Perla the truth but cannot do it when she tells she has been in love with him since she was 15. She cannot believe she is marrying the love of her life. She thanks him for loving her. He tells her she is also the love of his life and kisses her. He will be the husband of her dreams. He has to admit that he is in love with her. Nemesio cares not about Valentín's proposal faux pas. He either wants the money for the ring or he will ask Perla for it himself.

Yazmín tells her father that after her mother died, she felt so alone and Javier gave her a pill one day that made her feel like she was flying and free from everything that was bothering her. When she met Oliver she thought she had it under control but she didn't. Yazmín agrees to go into a rehab center at her father's prompting. Oliver says he will be there for her and will visit her when he can.
 

A.MAR Parte 2

Gabriel finds the registry reports of adoptions that Nicolás has given Marina. He doesn't like that she didn't tell him about them. She says Nico was right. there was nothing there. Gabriel is upset because he feels like they are leaving him out. She doesn't think it matters. He asks how does she think it makes him feel with them sharing information and not telling him. He is afraid of losing her. He is going to the engagement party. She decides to stay home. Gabriel ends up drinking alone on the beach when Brisa appears. He knows he shouldn't discuss anything with her but cannot help himself. When Pascual and Marina appear, Brisa launches herself on top Gabriel, knocks him over and starts to kiss him. Marina runs back home. Gabriel says he was only discussing their problems with Brisa (????? the guy doesn't get it, does he??) Marina tells him she is on her last nerve. She is sick of him being Brisa's victim and decides she needs to get out of there. She quickly packs a bag and leaves.

Estrella arrives at her friend's house in Mexico City where she will be spending a couple of days until she can rent an apartment. Sergio is over in no time at all since Azul has texted him where they are. Estrella makes it cleat that she didn't move because she was afraid of him filing for custody of Azul. She made the move because it was best for both of them. He tells her she doesn't have to worry about him filing for custody. Now that she is in Mexico City, his goal is to fight for what is really important to him: have a family with her. She cannot believe what he is saying. She makes it clear she has no plans on getting back with him. Later, that night she and Fabián text perfunctorily. Yes, she got there safely Good night!

TIME JUMP
TWO MONTHS later, Estrella is still thinking of Fabián and how much she loves him.

A joyous Yazmín is over her treatment and is returning home. She is ready to start fresh. She and Oliver pick up where they left off and kiss. Her birthday is coming up. Her time in rehab proved to her that she really wants to be a doctor to help others. He will be by her side to fulfill her dreams. She will do the same for him.

Erika tells Fabián that Brisa told her that Estrella is making her life over with Sergio. She reminds him that they (Erika and Fabián) could do very well together. Fabián isn't in agreement on that. She says she will never give up until her dying day.

Sergio introduces Azul and Estrella to his father.

I'm getting rather tired of Hulya. Putting glass in her sandwich to get at Filiz is so petty.

Missing Atilla and Cevdet! But the Adonis of the bar has moved into Atila's old place and he is a friend of Lale's, of course. I guess Irmak and he may become an item. The sparks sure fly between them. Ipek is already smitten. I'm surprised she didn't change into a swimsuit and join him at the pool.

I do not think Karsu working in the cafeteria will remain a secret. Tilsim is more than willing to not acknowledge her of course, how embarrassing if her new friends found out. She sure made friends fast and bosses them around after 2 days at the new school. Hande becomes worse and worse I was hoping Deniz would throw up on her when Reha forced him to give her a hug to apology.

Jarifa, you captured all of the "must see" action with your usual insight and razor sharp attention to detail. I was floundering with much of the dialogue and you expertly explained what I couldn't translate.

Your writing, "We find Fabián, looking fine in his watermelon colored shirt, twisting himself into anything that Estrella needs him to be" is perfection.

Once again, the storyline veered into unexpected but fascinating territory.

With Marina under pressure from Nicolas, combined with worry about her son, it was inevitable she and Gabriel would argue. Marina is torn between two worlds and he fears she is quietly and somewhat secretively slipping away. She went to the party even though her heart wasn't in it and what does she find? Her love on the beach with her nemesis who "launches herself on top of Gabriel", passionately kissing him. Ordinarily I would have felt for him but as you wisely noted "(????? the guy doesn't get it, does he??)" Nopis, he sure doesn't. Marina DOES get it and now, she's gone, dumping her ring in the dish on her way out.

So did Fabian think that by chasing Estrella down with Iker in tow would result in her changing her mind? Puppy love is sweet but doesn't affect life altering decisions. Further, he's still hanging out with Erika, who actually said "she will never give up until her dying day". What is it going to take??Hopeless.

As usual, Valentin fumbles and doesn't explain how he came to be in possession of the ring. Perla was so luminously happy, I can't really fault him. Unfortunately, he's only delayed hell breaking loose as "Nemesio cares not about Valentín's proposal faux pas". :)

It was good to see Yazmin in good health, smiling and happy with Oliver.

Did Estrella really think that by moving into Sergio's backyard she would be free of him? He has already pushed her into meeting his papa so surely his demands will escalate.

I can't believe there are 20 (more or less) episodes left. I hope Uni doesn't whittle away too much, I want to savor each remaining episode!!

The scene with the ladies drooling over Kivanc at the pool was a hoot.

I guess Filiz wants to just rip the bandage off with Karsu, saying Atila probably is starting a new life with a new lady, so she should get on with hers too. Ouch! Not nice.

Also not nice: Hasan’s assessment of Mert’s singing. Poor guy moves in with dad just to be insulted.

I guess they cut the scene where Lale gets Silin’s toy she likes to sleep with. In return, we got long and languorous pool god scenes!

Hande was awful saying she’ll put Deniz out to the curb for the trash men to pick up.

Hooray for Hasan seeing through Hulya’s trick with the glass shard. I guess he’s been in the biz long enough to know.

Thanks once again, Jarifa, for covering all the events of the episode. I somehow missed that Yazmín had agreed to go into rehap so was surprised when she was picked up by González.

Gabriel had been pretty understanding of Nicholas helping Marina, then gets upset over something minor. Then, as usual, feels like Brisa is the one to confide in. I don’t blame Marina for packing her stuff.

Knowing Sergio is just being nice to Azul and Estrella for the company is madening. I can’t wait for Estrella to find out the truth.

And Érica, like Brisa, will not give up on the men they love. I hope Fabián remains strong. I’ve decided maybe Gabriel and Brisa deserve each other!

Hande will not be up for mother of the year anytime soon, or, more likely, never. I feel if Tilsim overheard something from Hande to the younger kids she would say or do something. She usually seems bored with them but I think she would stick up for them.

Tilsim was happy to see her mother but didn’t want her friends to see them together. The younger kids are bound to tell their dad. I hope this doesn’t hurt Karsu’s chances of getting them back. I’m thinking she could say she didn’t know they went to school there as Reha did do his best to hide the kids from her.

A lot of the conversation was hard for me to understand. So thanks, Maggie, I wasn’t sure if Hasan thought the glass was an accident of Filiz’s. Good to know he saw through and knew it was Hulya’s doing. She’s a pushy, annoying woman.

Kivanc moving into the neighborhood should prove interesting. There are sparks between him and Irmak.

All the ladies are employed for now, i hope it lasts. I miss Atilla and Cevet too, Katie. They were among my favorite characters. But we are getting to know Hassan better.

Finally caught up. Wow, Atilla’s videos. I think he’s gone for good and so is Cevdet. Too bad.

First season had 26 Turkish episodes. We are currently near the end of ep 24 out of 50 total Turkish episodes.

Karsu is annoying me again. She needs to stop stalking her kids. It is interesting that Hasan said if she wanted her kids his people would get them back for her.

When I saw Hasan do beadwork, I immediately thought it was something he picked up in prison. I’ve seen this in other dizis. I see he still carries a tesbih (prayer beads). That’s often associated with religious/traditional people, macho types, or mafiosos in dizis and I guess IRL, too.

They cut a sweet scene. Ekrem comes to the café and brings Filiz a nazar for good luck [to keep the evil eye away.] Omer asks him to sit and brings him tea. He introduces his father to other customers. Filiz gives Omer cookies to bring to Ekrem. Omer offers to pay for them. Filiz refuses the offer. She tells Ekrem to appreciate his son. He does. He’s very proud of Omer.

I’m pretty sure that Kivanc and Irmak are kismet.

From what I can tell, this was almost ALL of #71 & 72. They just left out all of the intersting details. "I hope Uni doesn't whittle away too much, I want to savor each remaining episode!!" You can say that again, Diana. Also, thanks for mentioning that Marina took off her ring when she left. From what I can tell, she is gone and working as an architect again with Nicolás. Iker misses her.
One good point was Yazmín: "It was good to see Yazmin in good health, smiling and happy with Oliver." Finally. Can we check her plot line off our list?

Liz, thanks for "I don’t blame Marina for packing her stuff." Not at all!! "’I have decided maybe Gabriel and Brisa deserve each other!" Definitely! What man in his right mind would discuss his relationship with his current girlfriend's rival? Looking at most of the men n this novela: Do Valentín, Pascual, Gabriel, Gonzalo and Fabián have one working brain among them? Sergio the villain is the only one that seems to have some sort of smarts going for him.

I'm not sure if Karsu taking a job at the school will harm her case. For one thing, that household needs income, so a job is good. I was not happy about Filiz and Irmak making strides to get some income while Karsu moped around the house. It could backfire, but they may be going with "the force of a mother" and being sentimental about her inability to be away from her children.

I thought Irmak overheard Kivanc on the phone to his wife and mentioning children when his character was first introduced. And that was why Irmak was obsessed with outing him (shades of Adnan's infidelity). But, when he moves into Atilla's old condo, he looks to be a swinging single who has live music in the place. It does look like something may sizzle between Kivanc and Irmak, but I'd want a better man for her.

I can hardly wait for Deniz to see his mother. The poor kid has had so much trauma, and his rotten insensitive father ripped him away from his mother and expects him to grin and bear it.
