4/9/08, Pasión: Birth, Burials, and Blame To Go Around
As Auxiliadora takes our sanctimonious San[c]tiago and the judgmental Justo to see Cami, she warns them that her child was stillborn and that Cami has childbed fever, something, she tells them, “that very few ever survive.” In the background Auxi alternates between grunts and whines to say that she is only a humble midwife and has done all that she could. The rest is up to God --This includes of course, helping Cami along as best she could to meet her maker, by either poisoning or purposely infecting her with filth from the dead baby’s delivery so she can complete the Devil’s deal she made with both Fran and LaFont.
Sanctiago, now sporting a giant gold cross at least 100 times the size of most which highlights his otherwise understated elegance like some flashing neon sign (underscoring for some out there in Viewerville that the bigger the cross, the greater the hypocrite), sees the empty cradle and breaks down, weeping at Cami’s bedside. “It was my fault, all my fault,” he sobs. While Cami deliriously asks for her baby, Justo, also impactado from grief and guilt, insists from the foot of her bed and on his knees that there has to be something they can do.
Back in San Fernando at LaFont’s bedside Jorge has arrived and asks him about his injuries. Al shouts angrily to Jorge, “Do you see how that damned Antillano left me? I’m one eyed now!” “—So it was he?” “Yes, and if it weren’t for your son’s over eagerness for that woman…he got out of him where they’d put her…if he would have let the damned buccaneer take her!” Jorge apologizes to his friend for the state he’s now in. Al angrily shouts back, “Is that all you have to say?” “-What else do you want to hear?” Al says something like he could be sorry he let him ever get involved in that monstrosity of a business with pirates since he ended up losing an eye.
Jorge looks as if to say perhaps, but he frankly does not seem all that upset that this power mad, one-time right-hand man of his is now absent his left eye. Al continues his story and tells him that it was El Chino who betrayed him and handed him over. “—do you realize what that means? If Ric persuaded El Chino, then he could convince Foreman that he should hand us over.” He begs Jorge then to let the pirate have the woman and be done with this damned nightmare. Jorge tells him he’s too agitated right now and to wait till he’s calmed down and feeling better in a couple of days. Then they’ll think it over.
Outside in the living room Mannie, Lis and Fran wait to hear what Jorge and Alberto have talked about. Jorge fibs and says it was robbers who attacked, beat him to a pulp and lost him his eye. “However, better an eye than losing his life,” Jorge says with a royal shrug. The three women cross themselves to ward off the evil eye.
Ascanio, Ofelia and Jime finally arrive in Garbancillo. Inside the hacienda the priest tells Sancti that a stillborn baby cannot be buried in sacred ground. Ofelia and the others find Sancti and ask about Cami. He tells them briefly what happened and that not only did the baby die stillborn, but that Cami now has puerperal (childbed) fever. They are all three impactados since they know the odds are steep that she can ever survive it.
Auxi visits the stable where the farm girl, Conchita, is currently recuperating. Poncho who works the stables asks her to convince Conchita to marry him since he’s fine with raising the child as his own and is certain that it will square things with Conchita’s father as well. Inside she finds Conchita who is unaware she’s been wet nursing Ric and Cami’s baby or that her child was the one that really died.
Unschooled and ignorant, Conchita tells Auxiliadora that she doesn’t understand why her baby is light-skinned since she and her family are all dark. The old midwife slyly tells her that the baby is just a bit pale and sickly right now. She quickly changes the subject to say that in a couple of days she’ll come back for her because she wants to take her and her baby to her home so he’ll grow up healthy and strong. Conchita is overcome with tears of appreciation, but it’s tough luck for love-struck Poncho, though, since he apparently doesn’t fit into Auxi’s current plans.
A bit later, in an unconsecrated section of the local cemetery there, Justo, Sancti and the others bury Conchita’s baby believing it to be Cami’s. The priest gives his benediction while Ascanio and Jimena solemnly look on.
Feverish, Cami arrives back at her father’s house with the others. Ofelia gives orders to ready everything because Camila has come back home very ill. As Vasco and Sancti work to take her out of the carriage, Cami in her delirium subconsciously refuses to let Santiago help her out. With a great leap of logic he is convinced that now she hates him, but Justo insists she is unaware and simply delirious from the fever.
Sanctiago, and Justo start doing a fair bit of soul-searching afterward, feeling terribly guilty about the calamity they’ve caused. (I’d say better to be thinking about saving those hairy hides of theirs that Ric and company will soon be tanning once Antillano finds out and believes they’ve caused the death of his only child!) At the palace Jorge, wearing an even bigger cross than his son’s, asks him if he saw what Ric did to Alberto. Sancti says yes and explains to Jorge what happened to Cami and adds that he blames himself. Jorge tells him that it was simply circumstances and suggests that they talk about it later after Sancti’s had a chance to clean up from the trip.
Across town, Justo is looking forlornly off into space. Paco harasses his granddad with questions about his aunt Cami and why Justo seems so sad. When the little boy questions him about his new little cousin, Justo denies there ever was a little cousin. Paco doesn’t quite know why, but somehow realizes he better forget he ever heard anything about a baby cousin of his Aunt Camila’s.
Upstairs, meantime, Ofelia, Ines and Jime are nursing Cami’s fever. Ines wonders who Cami is mumbling about, the baby or Ric. Jime says she’s going to die when she finds out about the baby.
Over at the tavern Ascanio and Vasco discuss his sister’s predicament. Vasco accuses Sanctiago for causing this tragedy, but Ascanio says it actually was Justo’s idea, though he’s not defending him. Vasco blames his father too, but says as for Sancti, his interest in this was petty and mean and that he had no right to meddle. The only reason he did it was to keep Ric from finding Cami; and he’s certain it was because ever since Rita died Sancti has been keen on now being free to marry her. Of course, that probably will never come about because as far as he is concerned Cami knows she’d never be happy with him.
Ascanio agrees and says that Ric is not about to forget her either and from what he overheard the captain of the guard say, Ric managed to escape. Vasco wonders if Ric is still around there or left for parts unknown. Ascanio hasn’t the foggiest but says he knows the guy is not one to give up or give in. They sit down at a table and Vasco adds that he’s glad Ric took out Alberto’s eye; if it had been him he’d have killed the sorry S.O.B.
Talk turns to Ascanio and Mannie. Vasco tells him that if they love each other he should fight for her. Ascanio says it’s hopeless, and he does not want her to suffer because of him. Vasco insists that she might really suffer if he lets her daddy marry her off to somebody. The two worry then about Justo and figure that if anything happens now to Cami so soon after Rita’s death that he won’t be able to survive it.
Across the way Sofia pays a visit to Ines and asks for Cami. Ines fills her in and says the only ones culpable in this are her brother and father-in-law. Ines cries in frustration about their taking Cami away like that since the town is full of unwed mothers. What’s the big deal with having one more?
On the other side of town again, Auxi pays a little visit to one-eyed Al. Aunt Fran comes to the door and speaks with her first. The midwife gives Fran the news about Cami and the Big Lie and the baby. She informs her that in two months she’ll return to hand Fran over the baby who should be recovered from his premature birth by then.
Auxi then goes in to speak with Al and Fran goes to fill in Lis on their conversation about the baby and the Big Lie. Lis tells her the midwife probably is there about the business with the baby just like Clotilde told them. Lis wonders if she’s going to spill the beans about their own deal with her, but Fran isn’t so sure. So Lis, appropriately hobbling on her dead daddy’s claw-handled canes, says she’s going in to find out for herself.
Alberto wants to know from Auxi if Cami is certain to die or not. In the still dreaded presence of the bandaged and badly bouffanted Lafont, Auxi concedes that it will be very difficult for Cami to survive childbed fever. She explains then that she wasn’t able to stop Santi, as Jorge’s son, or his mother from bringing Cami back to San Fernando. She sticks to the story that Cami’s child died at birth. Al is glad to hear it was a baby boy and says the guy who fathered it doesn’t deserve descendants. (Yeah, it takes one to know one, and Al is a guy who definitely knows what he’s talking about here.)
Just then Lis knocks at Al’s door. He sends Auxi away and tells her his wife’s blind so she’s to leave without saying a word. Lis’s sense of smell, though, lets her know the old woman is still there. (Looking at this one-eyed, S.O.B., it is not lost on anyone that our Buddhist pirate from Japan, not to mention, Lis herself, might consider Al’s blinding as some sort of two-fold instant Karma for the brute who married and mistreated a blind woman just to lay his hands on her blindingly brilliant bling.) Al claims at first that Auxi is just some beggar woman asking for alms, but then aggravated, he admits to Lis that the old country woman was the midwife that took care of Cami. He gives Lis the well-received news that Cami is back home now and very ill. He regurgitates the Big Lie he was given, that her child was stillborn. Lis smiles to herself, well out of LaFont’s now limited view, and hypocritically laments, “Poor thing.” Al spits back a contemptible “better she is freed from having to care for some worthless kid.”
That same morning Ascanio and Mannie meet again for another walk in the park. She tells him about her father and that she’s heard about what happened to Cami. He’s a bit distant. She wonders what’s the matter with him and if he regrets their relationship. He assures her that if she were like either Ines or Rita he’d already have spoken to her father, but since she’s highborn, the class distinction is a barrier that they simply cannot overcome. She says love is the only thing that matters. He asks her then if she’s ready and willing to live in a hut and wash clothes and sweep the floor. She smiles and says sure. He thinks this is endearing and kisses her for it. A minute later she lets him know that her father wants to marry her off to Sancti. (Mannie does have a rather naive way of coming out with the gossip at the oddest times, don’t ya think?) Ascanio is confused and more than a bit upset from the jealous jolt this little tidbit of gossip gives him.
================
That night, in Cami’s room Justo suffers from belated pangs of conscience. He confesses to Ofelia that if Cami dies from this he wants to die too. Ofelia suggests that praying is their only option now. Justo laments that he probably should have just let Ric take her off.
Speaking of Ric, the next morning Mario, Pablo and he finally manage to limp back to their safe-house on Coralina Island. Pablo heads off to see his mother. La Paisana greets him at the study door and asks how things went. He tells her that no one died, but they failed even to get a glimpse of Camila. Paisana reiterates what Antillano had told them a few nights back when they were wounded: the experience of age teaches one that shrewdness is better than the audacity of impetuous youth. She tells him that now they all will need to recover from their wounds and Antillano from his wounded spirit as well. Pablo smiles at his mother’s wisdom.
Back at the palace Ursula and Fortunata are entertaining themselves by scandalizing themselves with gossip about Cami. Fortunata is sure she left 4 months ago because she got pregnant. Just then Sofia returns and Ursula teases her about why they never get to visit with Camila since she’s constantly over there. What could the problem be? Sofia answers that she won’t take them visiting with her not only because they’re a couple of gossips but because she just doesn’t want to be bothered. She goes inside and the two younger women surmise that either the baby was born and died and then Cami got sick, or the baby was born and then given away. Fortunata is certain that both Sanctiago and Sofia are well aware of what happened.
Meanwhile, at the church Sancti goes to make confession and he tells the priest that he’s burdened by the guilt he feels. If he’d only let Cami go off with the pirate then the baby wouldn’t have been born prematurely or have died. Now she’s very sick and he can’t live if she dies after all of this. He screams that God cannot do this to him and the priest warns him against blaspheming. Sancti, conveniently forgetting that it takes two to tango, tells the priest that just when he and she were finally going to be able to be together after all that had happened to them, this occurs. (I guess this Divine Right business is a real head-trip for him.) He tells the priest he was even ready to accept the child and to love it as his own. (Excuse me. Earth to Sancti. The kid has a father already. You are an extraneous entity in this matter.) The priest tells him to pray for the ability to accept God’s will (Divine Rights aside, of course).
Sancti says this time he refuses to resign himself --and I gotta say the range of emotions from anger to grief to lust, jealousy, arrogance and steely resolve that he conveys to the priest here is palpable. Sancti is adamant that he simply cannot and will not do that again. His jealousy overcomes him and he blames Ric for everything then. “If that wretch hadn’t come into her life then none of this would have happened!”
The priest tells him that it isn’t right for him to harbor so much bitterness against this other man, but Sancti says he cannot help himself. “Do you really believe that I can avoid it? Do you really believe I can control this fire that burns inside of me every time I think about the man who stole Camila’s love from me?” “—He didn’t steal anything. When she came back you were already married.” “--But not anymore!!” he screams back at the priest. “Pray. Pray.” Sancti is distraught and looking more and more crazed by the minute.
A bit later Sanctiago, still very down in the mouth, goes by the city hall to check in with Ascanio. Ascanio mentions that he has found a few reports that don’t square, but Sancti looks so depressed they skip that and he asks if something has happened to Cami. He says no, but the guilt is killing him. Ascanio defers and says he was only doing what he felt he had to do at the time.
He changes the subject to Manuela. “I know that Alberto wants to marry Manuela off to you.” Sancti is taken by surprise and asks who told him, if it was Mannie. Ascanio answers only that he just knows. Sancti says he holds a great deal of affection for Manuela, but well, he knows the two of them are in love with each other, and besides, Cami is the love of his life. Ascanio wonders though if in time he might change his mind. Sancti says it’s not likely and he prays that in time Cami will come to understand that God has meant them to be destined for each other.
==============
Back across the sea at Coralina Island, Foreman and Antillano finally parlay. Foreman asks him if he’s paid the debt for his woman even though he lost her. Antillano says, “Only temporarily.” Foreman says he’d heard he nearly died but survived by a miracle. Antillano answers him that when there’s a reason to live you fight the Devil himself and this pleases Foreman. “So you are fully recuperated?” “—Yes.” “Well, you promised and I’d like you to pay me back before you die.”
Antillano asks when they’re going and if the target is a fleet or a port city? Foreman says soon they’ll be launching one last, big operation. It will be a port city: Puerto Paraiso. Antillano is very negatively impactado with this news since that port is the most important and best fortified in all of New Spain. Foreman says that’s precisely why he’s chosen it, because troops in a fortress rely on the enemy’s fear. The guards become overconfident and thus lazy and careless. Antillano warns him it’s a serious risk for his posse and they could all die. Foreman says yes, everyone could die or everybody could come back very rich. He reminds Antillano that he gave his word. Antillano says he knows that already and he’s not going back on it. Just tell him when. Foreman smiles back in eager anticipation.
Antillano returns to the safe-house afterward and gives the inner circle the details. Paisana thinks the Englishman has gone completely crazy, but Antillano says it’s precisely because the Spanish would never suspect such audacity from them that he’s chosen Puerto Paraiso. They have three months till the attack so they have time to go back for Cami and the baby once more. He’s hoping the town will have let its guard down by now. He confides in Mario that it was shocking how much hatred the town felt for him. He truly fears for his child’s safety now. So, two weeks from now, when the Salamandra is ready, they’ll return for them both. Paisana and Pablo share surprised looks at each other.
=================
Days later, Cami finally wakes up from her fever and asks to see her child. Ofelia praises the Lord and Jimena tells her that Ric came looking for her and what he told Jime about coming back for her, and that she should stay resolute. Eventually though she tells Cami that her child was stillborn. Cami is filled with so much grief (definitely a 3 hanky scene) that it is heartbreaking for the two women to watch.
Cami now vehemently detests her father and Santiago. Like a possessed woman, she races outside and down the stairs looking for her father raging at him, insisting that it was entirely his and Sanctiago’s fault that her baby died. “What moral right did you think you had in separating me from my child and imprisoning me in that tomb of a house? You had no pity on me, not even for my child when I begged you! All that time in there because you wanted to keep Ricardo from finding me! What kind of Christians are you? Where did you leave your compassion? What did I ever do to you to that you would have hurt me so much? I told you what was the best for me was to be with Ricardo. If you’d have let me go my child would still be alive in my belly!! ”
“—But we can’t know that!” says Justo, more than a bit bewildered by the ferocity of Cami’s anger and resentment. She screams back at him, “I-I-I know!! I-I-I know!” “--Ricardo is a far better man than you or Santiago, in every sense of the word! He might have robbed or killed, but honorably. You knifed me in the back and betrayed me in the worst way. I am sorry, but if it is a sin to love him then so be it because I do love him and I will never ever stop loving him!” Ofelia and Jime walk Cami back upstairs then. Jime gives Justo a last look of reproach. Justo stands there clinging to his grandson as tears roll down his cheek, broken, ashamed, and in pain.
Later in the day Sancti visits his mother and tells her he really needs to speak with Cami and to ask her forgiveness. Ofelia warns him against it and says she’s in too much pain right now. He asks if she knows about Rita yet. Ofelia says it hasn’t been a good time for that either, yet. She needs time to mourn first for her child. He asks her what else could he have done, just let the man carry her off? Ofelia says it’s not her place to say. His conscience must dictate that.
That night Ines and Jime go to console Cami who cannot control her tears. She says she doesn’t know how she’ll tell Ric about the baby when he comes back for her. Then it occurs to her that she doesn’t know where it was even buried. She has to go see the grave. They talk her into waiting a bit longer till she’s better. She tells them she has to move away from there and there is no way she will live with either her father or in Sanctiago’s home, even if it’s with Ofelia.
At supper downstairs, the family discusses Cami’s urge to leave. Jime says she understood Cami meant to leave town. Vasco wonders how she’s going to live and thinks it’s just foolishness. Jime says perhaps it’s to find Ric somehow. Vasco and Ascanio say he could be anywhere, in La Mariana, at sea or who knows. It would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Ascanio says one thing’s for certain, though, Ric risked his life coming back for her and he is probably planning something else that will succeed this time. Jime wonders what he’ll do when he finds out the baby died. Ines wonders if that means he might try to kill her brother. Ascanio and Vasco share a worried look.
Vasco goes up to speak with Cami then to persuade her to stay there because sooner or later Ric will come back for her. He says that if she’s not there this search business could go on forever. He tells her to understand their father: he was afraid that people would point at her and being an old man, set in his ways and thinking of things a certain way, as the head of the family he really felt it was for her own good. Cami says she understands, but it was at the cost of an innocent life. It was her son’s life and whatever he might say or think now will never fix the harm he’s caused. She cries and tells Vasco that Ric never had a family and he wanted this child so he could finally have one.
Vasco tells Cami he understands her resentment for their father and Sancti, but what about the rest of them? They’re her family too. They need and love her too. She agrees to stay and wait for Ric to return as Vasco is certain he will.
A few days later the family goes to the gravesite and they have an impromptu memorial service. A couple of days after that Sancti comes to talk to Cami at Justo’s. He says he knows how she feels and what she thinks about what her father told her. In short, he’s sorry for the death of the baby. It’s just that going off with that man wouldn’t have been the proper life for her. She stops him short, “—But that IS my life! So, is that all you have to tell me? Be brief because I really don’t think there’s much else we have to discuss.”
Sanctiago says mainly he wanted to ask for her forgiveness, but there is something else that he’d hoped to wait to tell Cami until she’d recuperated further, but….. She immediately thinks something has happened to Ric. “No. Rita,” he replies. “She died three and a half months ago.” Cami looks as if she’s ready to faint.

Al Diablo Con Los Guapos #53, Wednesday 4-9: Love Shack v2.0
On tonight's episode of Amar Sin Limites, Diego has kidnapped Azul and the two of them are in a cabin by the beach…wait, sorry, wrong show. Alejandro kidnapped Mili and they're in a cabin by a lake. Mili confesses her luuuuuurve to the bathroom door only to find that Alejandro snuck out the bathroom window and back into the cabin. Smoochies.
Andrea and Valeria conference in the study. Andrea thinks Alejandro kidnapped Milagros. Valeria denies it at first and then realizes it must be true. She doesn't think Alejandro would be stupid enough to take her to his and Bobby's apartment; she doesn't think he's at the Cuarnavaca house…in short, Valeria has no idea where he is.
Gloria tells the kitchen staff that, per Sor Cachete, Mili's fine and she wasn't kidnapped…and oh, btw, this is a secret and don't tell anyone.
Valeria tries to get information out of Bobby. He fails to crack, even under the promise that he can call her "Vale." He runs off to deal with his car, which he allegedly left running.
Regina sits in her room reading and musing that Alejandro and Mili must be enjoying themselves. Constancio comes in and yells at Regina--it's her fault Mili got kidnapped because someone knows she's worth $$ now. Regina tells him to chill, no one's going to call asking for money, Mili and his precious car will be home soon. Then she chastises him for not saying hello or goodbye after not seeing her for so long. She kids him about needing to show affection for Mommy. Constancio gives her kisses, asks her how she is and then she dismisses him, telling him to go check on his business stuff. After he leaves, Regina says it's a good thing she's got Mili.
Karla and Andrea conference at the hospital. Andrea shares that Alejandro must have kidnapped Mili. What Karla wants from Andrea is: to say she hired Karla to work out of her apartment and to let Karla and Hugo (aka, her future husband) move in.
Mili and Alejandro hang out by a waterfall as Alejandro does a voiceover of some poetry I can't locate. Something about giving so many kisses they lose count and no one can spy on them and see how many kisses they've given.
Karla tells Hugo they're going home to their little love nest tomorrow…which they share with their "friend" Andrea. At her name, Hugo gets some flashes, but Karla tells him it's best not to try to remember--his memory will come back on its own. Amnesia!Hugo is quite pliable and agrees not to try. Karla's next lie is that they're both all alone in the world and they were going to get married at the end of the month, but, well, if he doesn't want to…. Hugo, of course, agrees, managing to look only slightly worried.
More hanging out near the waterfall as Mili does the poetic voiceover. She tells Alejandro she doesn't want to go back. He says they won't. He wants her to be his, which she says she is. Smoochies. Mili wants to stay there, but how will they live? Alejandro says hunting and fishing…he's an expert at both. Mili says she wants to stay because everything's fine between the two of them, but the rest of the world tends to get between them…chicks especially. Alejandro doesn't deny he's a womanizer. He says he's got four women in his life and he's not prepared to ditch any of them: Mili, his mom, grandma, and Valeria. Their thoughts turn to food--there's a pasta packet in the kitchen. Alejandro asks about Mili's cooking skills and she says they're as good as his fishing skills.
Pilar and Valeria conference via phone. Pilar gets informed about the kidnapping. She feels stupid. Valeria encourages her to come home, but Pilar doesn't want to spend eight more hours on a plane. She caves, though, and gets a plane leaving within the hour. I find the desk person suspiciously helpful.
Andrea is still convinced Bobby knows where Alejandro is. Andrea coaches Valeria through a sexy phone message asking Bobby to "please, please" call her. Valeria's grossed out. Andrea says he'll call back…providing the message doesn't give him a heart attack.
Hugo asks Karla how the accident happened--she says he was driving his bike and he fell, just like that. She warns him to forget about driving a bike again and he agrees, since he can't remember how. Karla says they'll go home tomorrow and get married at the end of the month. She kisses him and Hugo touches her face like he's confused. Music that sounds like the theme from Jaws plays. Yep, that Karla, she's a maneater.
Mili cooked what looks like a couple of packets of Ramen noodles. She calls it pasta with pesto…Alejandro questions the "pesto" part. Mili admits she had no pesto ingredients, so it's just got oil. She tells him next time he kidnaps her, he needs to go to one of Diego Moran's seminars on how to properly kidnap a woman and not just skim the brochure. He complains about there being no grated cheese either and Mili says that Sor Cachete doesn't put grated cheese on pasta with pesto--and she'd know, being a fat lady. Speaking of the Sor, what does she say about a man who kidnaps the woman he loves? "That the woman is the luckiest in the world." Mush, mush, mush. They reenact the scene from Lady and the Tramp--the one with the shared noodle, not the meatball. They could have done the meatball scene if Alejandro had been better prepared, but no.
Lina and Gloria wonder where Karla and Mili are. They think about what Sor said and Lina gets a flash. Gloria says the guy had a good body and was tall. Like the handsome idiot, Lina asks? The girls do their super-secret handshake end zone celebration thingy.
Alejandro comes out of the bathroom saying he's glad Bobby had left some clothes in the Love Shack v2.0. Uh, oh, I guess that does mean they'll get the info out of Bobby after all. Mili's already asleep, so Alejandro climbs into bed with her.
The next morning, Constancio calls a guy to find Mili, though he doesn't say that's what it's about. He says he'll fax the guy stats later and no one needs to know he hired him. Damian interrupts the phone call and says he's got a surprise for Constancio. Constancio asks about the talk about Alejandro as Businessman of the Year. Damian says everyone's saying great stuff about him, despite the drug rumor. Constancio says it won't help him since he's left the country. Damian assumes Hugo has done the same (well, that will only last until the Monterrey job starts calling and looking for him). He intends to give Hugo his space to get over what happened.
Mili and Alejandro wake up together. I wonder if Bobby left some toothpaste there too? But we all know that when you're in luuuuuuurve bad breath doesn't exist. *wink, wink* Mili and Alejandro have a semantic argument about "sleeping with" a man vs. "making love." Alejandro says he wants to make love to her and Mili turns to give the camera her "eek!" face. Seriously, dude, if she can't even talk about it without getting all freaked out, she's not ready and I don't care if she is allegedly 18.
Pilar, the screeching harpy, comes back to Casa Belmonte and screams at Braulio to help the taxi driver get all the bags--Pilar's and Alejandro's--out of the cab. She screams at Valeria about spending 16 hours on planes and then for Andrea being in the study. Valeria hustles her off to the study and tells Braulio to bring in the sacrificial lamb, digo, Bobby, when he gets there.
Luciana is loudly congratulating herself for having Constancio dominated. Karla comes in to bring her the biographies of her friends. As part of her delusions of grandeur, Luciana is tossing in English words here and there--"come in" and "play." She corrects Karla's pronunciation of "play" as Karla puts a DVD in for Luciana to watch. Karla announces that she's giving her notice--she's gotten a better offer. Not that Luciana's free from her, since she still knows her secret. Braulio comes in and Luciana gets him to sit with her and watch the interview of Luciana's friend while Luciana tries to copy her mannerisms.
Pilar screeches some more in the study about how Alejandro's going to be sorry and she's going to kill him. She finally plops down in Constancio's chair from exhaustion. Valeria goes for some of mommy's tranquilizers and Andrea goes to get a glass of water. Like Lina, Pilar finds the key in Constancio's drawer too hard to resist. She finds his gun and stuffs it in the back of her pants as Valeria and Andrea come back. She only accepts the water.
Bobby shows up and has to contend with Andrea, Valeria, and Pilar. Pilar does some more screeching about dragging Alejandro's luggage back from Buenos Aires. They tell him they already know where Alejandro is, they just need confirmation. Bobby doesn't give up Alejandro and Valeria claims the three of them are on their way to see Alejandro. Bobby gets out of there and Valeria and Andrea tell Pilar to follow him--tired, cranky, sleep-deprived Pilar? They do want Alejandro back in one piece, right? Andrea thinks Alejandro will calm her down.
Mili and Alejandro drink black coffee, since there's no milk or sugar. Alejandro and Mili have a theological discussion. Alejandro admires Mili's faith and she says she's been more or less taken care of all the time, so how could she not believe.
Luciana tells Braulio she needs him to find a writer to write her biography. She wants an out-of-work novel writer. Braulio tells her the journalist from Personas is there. Luciana complains about not making them wait, but then says she needs to put on something that will look good in the garden. Now she's ok with making them wait…that's what they get paid for, right? I'm so sick of this personality change in Luciana…I wish she'd just pick an ex-boyfriend and run off with him already.
Damian's big surprise is a poster of "Constancio Belmonte, the honest candidate." Constancio is pleased until Damian tells him there's only one since he didn't have money for more. Now Constancio complains about it being a bad picture of him and the poster being in a bad location. He insists Damian's not getting another cent out of him.
Braulio comes screaming into the servants' dining room about a rat in the garden. Blah, blah, blah. Horacio borrows a rolling pin from Socorro and gives Rocky/Morgan instructions on how to whack a rat. And off he goes.
Alejandro tells Mili they have no more excuses and he wants her in his arms…naked. Mili begs off to go take a bath, even though Alejandro says he doesn't care. She rushes off while he wishes he had access to a cold shower.
Luciana instructs the photographer to take pictures of her by the pool as Lina touches up her makeup. If you don't know what's going to happen next, you haven't been watching telenovelas long enough. Rocky/Morgan and Horacio come running through chasing the rat. Luciana and Lina fall in the pool and Rocky/Morgan goes in after them while the photographer snaps away. *sigh*
Luciana screams at Rocky/Morgan and Horacio in the study. For some unknown reason she's not firing them. She just heaps on the verbal abuse and threatens them with both shooting and drowning. She's going to have to pick one. She mentions that she paid off the photographer to erase the pictures. Horacio promises he'll never push her in the pool again. She kicks them out of the room. Braulio comes in and announces he's found her a writer--Antonio Arguello. The guy has Karla's haircut, a turtleneck, and a tweed jacket. He's carrying a typewriter case. Braulio and Luciana whisper to each other and Braulio says the guy's been out of work for 20 years. Braulio leaves and Antonio asks if Luciana is the heroine of the novel. Luciana explains it's her biography. Antonio says he doesn’t perform miracles and if he's got to lie, that has another price. *snicker*
Constancio yells at Damian some more when they get to the office. Blah, blah, blah, no, I'm not giving you another cent…not another peso. "What about dollars?" Damian asks. Constancio doesn't think it's funny. Damian takes off.
Andrea comes to the hospital to give Karla a key to the apartment. Andrea thinks it's a stupid idea, but Karla says Andrea's going to help her. Karla's sure that Andrea can keep Constancio out of the apartment. Karla asks about Alejandro and Andrea says that Pilar is about to bust up his stupid reconciliation with that stupid servant. A nurse comes to tell Karla that Hugo is ready to go. No hefty hospital bill?
Alejandro waits for Mili to come out of the bathroom, which she eventually does. Wet hair, towel, and all. He politely sits her down on the bed and then starts the strip show. Mili breaks the no touching rule. Smoochies. Bobby comes in, covering his eyes, and announces they've been found. Pilar comes in with the gun she took from Constancio's desk drawer and says "Want to see what I brought from Argentina?" Oops.
Tomorrow: Hugo begins to doubt Karla.

Juan Q 4-9-08- To jump or not to jump- that is the UNANSWERED question....
Tonights recap is dedicated to Captain Jenny Cash.....
CL – Cesar Luis Farell
Ivy – Ivonne
Pasty - Pastor Gaytan
Pau – Paula Davila
Jito – Juanito Junior
Teach/Pompous – Pomposo, Juan’s teacher
Mar – Marely
Nid – Nidia Cachon
Fer - Fernando
Heri - Heriberto
Cl is about to jump. Oh but we have to do all this stupid filler crap first…..
Juan tells Yadi, fine she can be the consultant to the president. She likes the sound of it. Juan says he doesn’t even know how to use the phone.
Pastor begs Pau to help them out with this train wreck, she says no, let Juan see what happens when he plays with his money. Pastor says he’s going to take us straight to Bankruptcy.
Pastor says he’s not moving on buying the business and he’s going around nominating his friends to various posts. Pau is the only person who can save them.
Teach Pompous knows the three jerks are beating up Jito.
CL must have jumped by now. Can we yell Man Overboard now?
Pastor wants to go in with Pau to see Juan. Ivy doesn’t want to let them pass. Pau bites her head off and says soon she might be the pres and guess what the first thing she’d do, get rid of Ivy.
Once inside Yadi now doesn’t want to budge. Juan yells at them for their disrespect of barging in. Pastor tries to talk him into putting aside personal issues and think of the business.
He asks Pastor to leave them alone then.
Teach doesn’t like to punish but he keeps the thugs 2 hours after school to reflect on their actions.
Juan gets an apology from Pau, but he’s not really convinced. Yeah, I agree, pretty sorry sorry. She wants to talk business really. She tries to convince him to buy Campeoni, it’s a gold mine. He’s not so sure. She tells him she’s researched this up & down so give her a reason why not to buy it.
CL must be flailing around in the boat wake by now?
Julia and Yadi hiss at each other.
Juan goes on a tirade that he doesn’t have degrees and schooling in the states, but he has his heart that tells when to go forward or back.
Pau asks who nominated you president anyway. He needs more time to think. He doesn’t want a ton of money dumped on a quick decision. They get really close.
Nid thanks Kike for taking her. Kike drives away and Ana appears
They agree he will give her reasons by the day after tomorrow. They shake and there is a “moment” Juan tells her if she wants to be pres just tell him.
Nid whines to Ana about being sorry. Ana gives her some words, that the worst she did was letting her think that Samuel abandoned her. Nid says she sought refuge in the drink.
Both Nid and Ana still want this friendship, so of course this is why this hurts so much. Nid begs her pardon, she will go to jail, but she wants her pardon.
Pau tells Pastor about the conversation, and how indignant Juan is about these decisions.
Ana forgives Nid and says she won’t denounce her to the law.
Juan and Fer why am I president if no one respects that.
Pau complains to Marely how full of himself Juan was. She tells Marely this is a good deal and it needs to be sealed. She decides that the ridiculous conversation has convinced her she needs to come back to Farell. Mar tells her to eat.
Juan says he’s not going to tolerate Pau telling him what to do.
Pau tells Mar that she won’t denounce Nid. It was a hard decision but she has enough complications without messing with this legal problem too. Mar is pleased. Oooh there’s a catch, Pau says, but your Mom has to pay every dime back, even it it’s with the house. Mar is impactada.
How about now? Is he swimming with the fishes yet?
Ivy yells at someone who wants to talk to Juan. Turns out it’s Laura. She sweettalks him and wants to ask him out to eat. He can’t today but agrees for tomorrow. Lau is beside herself with glee.
Fer wants to know who she is. He tells him prima. Juan thinks she’s ok. He suddenly realizes he is late to pick up Juan. At school Juan waits, teach says bye, thugs stroll up.
Rainbow man (Heriberto today in orange) shows up to Pastor complaining about his post and Pastor tells him everyone starts at the bottom. They go to Pasty's office to have a chat. [I don't know if I missed this, but is Pasty still lusty over him?]
The three goons say they are making a piñata out of Juan. He starts running away.
Heri says to Pastorhis Pa put up money to buy. Pastor then says he’s as much an associate as Juan then, so he should be in a better office then, but he has to wait for Juan’s approval.
It’s time to make yourself count for something. He asks if he can get Ivonne as his secretary. Pastor is stumped, why? Creamsicle (Heri) responds because she’s weeeeeooouuuuu!!
Juli and Ivy are chatting about Yadi’s marriage, about Juan, eating lunch and hmmm, Ivy feels nauseus. She thinks the food might be bad. Me thinks otherwise.....Wonder where this is going.....savior to CL perhaps....??????
Pastor says to Heri that Ivy is machiavellian, plays with guys like toys, etc. He says she's a friend but only because he feels sorry for her because no one else likes her. He is trying to talk Heri out of his pursuit. [I guess maybe he is still lusty then.]
Ana talks to Pau and tells her she talked to Nid and she’s very sorry. Pau tells her don’t worry I’m not going to report her.
Juan runs up to the school, but Jito is gone, he asks the garbage man if he saw him and says yes, but he left. We next see Juanito running up a path on a hill. He gets to the top, and yikes he finds himself teetering over the edge of a high cliff. And we are left wondering if another guy is going to fall to death. Que the heck?????
I’m sure CL has been lunch for a shark by now….
And after his displays in the drinking establishments there I don't think the Canadians will be super quick to send the mounties to save him.......

La Traición, Wed. April 9- Aurora gets baptized; Enrico gets kidnapped; Lucas gets drunk; Alcides gets the upper hand and Soledad gets poisoned
Ester tells Antonia that they are not bringing Lucas to the baptism because he is drunk and might make a scene and embarrass Soledad (and Ester). Antonia disapproves but accepts Ester's decision.
Paquito blackmails a guy who is going to be a waiter at the baptism into murdering Alcides by giving him a drink with the poison he got from the druggist in it. He tells the waiter that the poison works by paralyzing the heart.
At the House of Sad*sm, Beatriz is back to flogging Alcides but he doesn't react to the blows. This seems to feed Beatriz' hatred all the more.
Soledad tells Ursula about her conversation with Hugo/Alcides. She says that for a second she thought he was referring to her as among those upon whom he was seeking vengeance. Ursula says that if that is so, has all the nice behavior of Alcides lately been a lie? Ursula also thinks that Arturo de Linares is the probably the target of Alcides' PoV. Although it is apparently only a short time until the baptism ceremony starts, Soledad decides to write Eloisa a note and tell her not to come to the ceremony. She asks Ursula to deliver it. On Alcides' orders, Marina refuses to let Ursula leave the house. There is a scene and Boris finds the note and gives it to Hugo.
At the Linares house, Hercu-less shows up and tells Arturo, Eloisa and Gladis that the carriage is ready. Arturo doesn't want him around but Gladis drops the bombshell that he is her escort. (I don't want to even think about what other services Hercu-less might be performing for Doña Gladis).
Hugo wanted to hire Guillermo to perform at the fiesta but has learned that he has lost his sight. Elena says that Guillermo can play without being able to see but he no longer has a violin. Hugo sends Guillermo and Boris off to the music store to buy him another violin. Guillermo thanks Alcides profusely and says that he sounds like Don Hugo. "Is that what you think?" says Hugo. Boris pulls Guillermo away from Hugo and tells him that Hugo is paying him back for saving Boris' life when Hercu-less tried to kill him. Hugo gives an invitation to the party for Elena to give to Dr. Max. Elena tries to suggest that a party is no place for a doctor but Hugo insists.
Hugo has hired the Mysterious Lady to perform at the party. Rebeca is also invited. (I guess she is going to do a quick change in a closet or something.)
Hugo comes into Soledad's room to confront her about the note. He asks if she is in league with his enemies and why she is interfering with his plans. Soledad says that wasn't her intention. She doesn't understand why Alcides needs more money. He already got Hugo's fortune. What more does he want? (There doesn't seem to be any reason for Soledad to assume that Hugo's PoV involves him getting more money but this is an opening for Alcides/Hugo to continue his questioning of Soledad's motives and relationship to Hugo.) He tells Soledad that she and her family also benefited from Hugo's money. That is why she married him. Soledad responds that she only married Alcides to save her parent's house. She says that she was never interested in Hugo's money and didn't agree to marry Hugo for his money either. "Is that so?" says Hugo, "You were with Hugo for love then? If that were true, you would have come to his wake and you didn't and you would have visited his grave and you didn't." Poor Soledad is trapped in her lie again and can only respond that she doesn't want to talk about Hugo anymore. Hugo, who is behaving more like Alcides here than he has before, pulls Soledad roughly around and tells her not to meddle in his affairs again. When he is gone, Soledad says that she doesn't know how much longer she can continue with this lie.
In the study, Boris tells Hugo that he can see that his conversation with Soledad has upset him. Hugo says that every time he talks to Soledad, he is reminded of her betrayal. She is always lying and double dealing. First with Hugo and then with Hugo/Alcides. Boris says that it was good that the note wasn't delivered to Eloisa. Hugo agrees. He wants Arturo to be present along with everyone else to participate in the PoV.
Lucas is wandering around his yard in his pj's looking for his women. Enrico is at the house to water the orchid and he tells Lucas that they have gone to the baptism. "Why didn't they tell me?" asks Lucas. "You were drunk," says Enrico. Enrico has an invitation to the baptism and he will take Lucas if he promises that he won't drink. (We will see what Lucas' promises are worth shortly.)
In spite of Elena's amusing recital of the horrors of attending parties: the noise, drunken people, etc. Dr. Max says that he wouldn't miss the baptism party. Guillermo wonders why Elena does not want Dr. Max to go. Is it because he wants to dance? Dr. Max doesn't want to dance, he tells the Cabinet of his Dead Wife that wants to take the opportunity to get a blood sample from Aurora. He seems to think that the blood of people with catalepsy contains some secret of eternal life that he can use to bring his wife back to life. (Dr. Max already got some blood from Hugo and he couldn't find anything in it so why is Aurora's blood going to be any different?) Elena witnesses at least part of this conversation.
At the House of Sad*sm, Alcides needs to use the rest room. Beatriz says that he only gets one trip a day so he'd better hold it but when he is writhing in agony, she relents and unlocks his chains. (Um, I can think of much simpler ways to deal with this need that a nurse would certainly be familiar with, especially for a man) Poor Alcides can't walk and has to drag himself along. When he comes back, Beatriz has a gun and orders him to get back on the table thingy. Alcides manages attack to Beatriz and gets her gun. He demands to know what Beatriz has been injecting him with. She refuses to tell him and they have the same conversation they have had before: he doesn't understand why Beatriz is torturing him since he doesn't even know who she is and Beatriz saying that she can do whatever she wants with him. Alcides decides that Beatriz deserves death for what she has done to him and he fires the gun. Unfortunately, the gun is broken and Beatriz knew this. She taunts him again and he lashes out in a fury and knocks her unconscious. He asks God what he has done to deserve this. (How much time have you got, Alcides?) Beatriz wakes up to find herself chained up where she had been holding Alcides. Alcides (who now looks a lot more like he did before he lost his memory) says, "the tables are turned now and we have a lot of accounts to settle."
The guests arrive at the baptism and are received by Hugo and Soledad and Ursula with the baby. Ester and Antonia arrive and Soledad asks where her father is. Ester says that he is indisposed. Rebeca arrives and recognizes the necklace that little Aurora is wearing as having belonged to her dead husband. Soledad says that it was a gift from Enrico who inherited it. Arturo and Eloisa arrive. Arturo says that he never thought he would be a guest in this house and Hugo says that life has many twists and turns. Soledad tells Eloisa that she hopes the truce continues and Eloisa says that she keeps an eye on Arturo. Arturo says that he hopes Soledad does the same for Alcides.
Rebeca tells Hercu-less about the necklace and that it has the initials - SDM on it. Does Hercu-less think it has something to do with the treasure? H thinks that it might but only Enrico can provide the answers and they haven't been able to find him. At that moment, Lucas and Enrico arrive at the party. Rebeca says that their luck may be changing.
The baptism ceremony takes place. (Hugo looks so cute holding the baby.) Afterwards, Hugo asks the male guests to come in his study while the ladies continue to enjoy the party. Manrique the money lender tells the judge and Inspector Duarte that he guesses that Alcides' announcement has something to do with business since Alcides was never much for social events. The inspector and the judge agree that they need to keep an eye on Alcides. Guillermo wants to go with the men but Elena has to go too since otherwise he couldn't find the door.
Ursula tells Soledad that she will take the baby upstairs to feed her. Dr. Max sees his opportunity. Ursula leaves the baby alone in her crib while she goes to get a bottle. Dr. Max sneaks in and takes blood from the baby. (I hope that needle is clean!) Eloisa witnesses some of this.
Hugo tells the assembled men that he has discovered evidence that there may be a valuable vein of gold in the Medina family mine (the one that collapsed). Lucas, who is tossing back drinks with great rapidity, takes the opportunity to point out that Alcides caused the mine to collapse himself and in the process nearly killed his daughter. Hugo says that was an accident. Hugo has a mine engineer confirm what he is saying (about the gold, not the collapse). Hugo says that he needs people to invest to reopen the mine because doing so is beyond his means and that is why he has gotten them all together. There is skepticism that the mine is stable enough to permit new tunnels and Hugo says that they should study the information that he has distributed. The mine engineer says that Hugo will pay for a test tunnel to determine the quality of the gold deposit.
During this time, the murderous waiter has come in with a try of glasses, one of which is poisoned. Hugo refuses a drink and somehow the waiter keeps everyone else from taking the poisoned glass.
Elena and Guillermo are walking outside. Elena sees Dr. Max leaving the house and she doesn't like his expression. She stashes Guillermo in the bushes and goes to confront the doctor. She finds the vial of Aurora's blood in his pocket and says that she is going to tell Alcides about it but when Dr. Max threatens to kill her, she is forced to leave with him.
Guillermo is left alone. He staggers around looking for Elena. He finds Enrico's cart and gets in and hides under a blanket (don't even ask why he would do that). Enrico approaches the cart and Hercu-less throws a blanket over his head and bundles him in the cart and drives off. (Abandoning Gladis at the party is not a great idea, Herc.)
Boris tells Hugo that the mine proposition hasn't aroused much interest. Hugo says this is only the first step. When they see the proof, they will invest. All those who did harm to Hugo will give him their money and when they figure out what is going on, it will be too late. "And Señora Soledad?" asks Boris, "have you thought about what she will say?" Hugo responds that by then Soledad will be at his feet desperately in love with the man she sold her soul to for money - Alcides de Medina, his twin brother.
The Mysterious Lady performs her one and only song while Lucas looks on like an idiot and keeps drinking even when Enrico tells him to stop. Soledad is also concerned about her father's drinking. Hugo says that he will take care of it. He and Boris tell Lucas he's had enough and that it's time for him to leave. Lucas says that he wants to watch the performance but Enrico says that he will go and get his cart to take Lucas home.
The waiter tells Paquito that Hugo hasn't had a single drink (maybe after what happened at his bachelor party, Hugo has stopped accepting drinks at parties.) Paquito has a plan. When the ML finishes her performance, he calls for a toast. Hugo takes the poisoned glass of wine. Lucas interrupts with a drunken toast of his own and manages to knock Soledad's glass out of her hand. Hugo hands her his glass. The toast is made and Soledad drinks from the poisoned glass. Hugo and Soledad make their own toast to their daughter and Soledad drinks from the poisoned glass again. Paquito does not seem to be upset at the change of victims. (Welcome to the dark side, Paquito, attempted murder crosses the line.) Soledad feels ill and collapses. The credits roll.
No episode tomorrow due to the Billboard awards. Friday- only a miracle can save Soledad.

Pasion April 8, 2008 All heck breaks loose near Garbancillo
* Guard looks into the coach, Alberto introduces himself. Guard recognizes him; he says he is with friends. Guard accepts the story and lets the caravan move along. As the caravan moves, Alberto mentions that he has nothing against Rico or his crew, and then comments about Cami and her pregnancy. Rico tells him to "shush".
* Jimena is drinking a cup of tea in front of Ofelia's house. Ascanio walks to her and asks what she's doing there? Jimena explains about losing her job at the hotel and then tells him about her confrontation that afternoon with Justo and Santo after she left church. Ascanio is curious why the confrontation. Jimena says because Rico was in the church. Ascanio is impactado to hear Rico actually returned! Jimena explains he came back for Cami, but gosh darn it, we don't know where she is. Jimena asks Ascanio if Santo mentioned anything to him at all. Ascanio says no. Jimena wonders if he can seek help with Manuela to find out information on Cami's location. Ascanio can't do that to Manuela, her father is too dangerous and he can't put her in that position - as well, since he started working at the municipal building, he hasn't seen her at all. Jimena is desperate to help Cami and Rico. Ascanio says they need to hope that Rico can find her. Ascanio asks her about why she's not at Justo's house - Jimena mumbles her reply.
* Santo, Justo and a lady show Cami into her new bedroom of the new hacienda. Cami asks the lady about restrooms. The lady leaves to get some water and food for Cami. Cami realizes that Santo and Justo brought her there because Rico returned to San Fernando! That's it, isn't it? Cami scolds them for doing everything to keep her and Rico apart. Santo argues with her that they are doing this for her own good. Justo even stomps his fatherly foot and yells at Cami that he will never permit her to be with Rico again!
* Lis admires one of the toy soldier chess pieces in the candlelight. Manuela enters the salon and talks with Lis. Lis mentions Alberto having an idea of an ideal mate for Manuela to marry - Manuela is surprised - Lis asks if she has some idea who it is. Manuela covers and says she doesn't. Lis tells Manuela she would like it if they were friends. Manuela says her dad wouldn't like it. Manuela leaves. Lis sits down and knocks all the chess pieces off the board.
* Santo and Justo leave the room and lock the door. Cami cries and pounds on the door, "let me out! let me be with Rico! I want to live with Rico!"
* Cleo and Fran return to the house. Luis greets them. Fran asks him to have cook prepare a light meal for her in her room. As Fran and Cleo enter the salon, Fran asks Luis if Lis and Alberto are there. Luis says Lis is in her room; Alberto hasn't returned tonight.
* Mario returns driving a cart filled with lots of clothes to the group at the side of the road near the cornfields. Rico and crew, along with Alberto, change into the clothes. They climb aboard the cart and horses and proceed down the road.
* At Garbancillo hacienda, Rico and crew look around and wonder about a back entrance. Alberto says there is one. Rico, Pablo and Mario take Alberto to the back. Pablo and Mario split off on one path while Alberto and Rico take the other.
* The foursome meet up inside the salon. Rico and Alberto search the rooms in one direction, Mario and Pablo go in another.
* In the bedroom, Rico grumbles about not finding any signs that Cami was even there. Rico starts to search the drawers as Alberto just stares at him. Rico turns his back to look in the closet and Alberto breaks a wooden chair over Rico's head. Alberto lunges at him; Rico punches him with his elbow, throwing Alberto towards the bed. Alberto takes out his knife and lunges at Rico. Rico fights back. As Alberto lunges again with his knife and strikes the bed. Rico grabs the candlestick from the nightstand and with a quick flick of his wrist, he stabs Alberto in his left eye. Alberto falls back into the closet and screams in pain and horror over his bloody eye. Later, Rico and Mario have Alberto in a chair. Alberto is hunched over and in pain holding his hands over his eye. Rico scolds Alberto for lying and deceiving him about Cami being there! Mario suggests that maybe they should make Alberto totally blind now. Rico takes out his knife; just the mention of the threat, Alberto cowers and tells them about Auxiliadora the midwife.
* Rico and crew, with Alberto, arrive outside Auxiliadora's cottage.
* Auxiliadora is helping Conchita give birth to her baby when a knock is heard on the door. Auxiliadora stops with what she's doing and answers it. Rico enters with knife in hand, Mario is behind him. Rico asks her where Cami is? Auxiliadora tells him in the main house. Rico says she's not there. Auxiliadora replies. Auxiliadora tells them she is helping Conchita give birth now and they need to leave. Mario asks about other doors. Auxiliadora tells them. Mario and Rico leave through the back door.
* Outside the cottage, the crew are taking a break and watching Alberto, in a red cape and is sitting the cart with dried blood over his eye. Alberto with his one good eye sees the guards approaching. He yells and screams about pirates! pirates are here! Guards start shooting - mass chaos erupts - Alberto is hit and falls to the ground. The crew, along with Rico and Mario, start to gallop away with guards in pursuit. Alberto scoots himself near a wall for safety. One of the guards spots him and approaches. As the crew gallop through the community, people scream and run away; guards continue their shooting - it looks like Pablo is wounded in the back; Mario gets shot in the leg as he tries to talk with Rico. Rico orders crew to retreat.
* In the salon of the main house, Santo grumbles to Justo over the bad timing of the chaos and Rico's arrival just as Cami is about to give birth. Guards pull Alberto inside the doors - Lady screams at the sight. Alberto tells Santo that Antillano is there. Santo and Justo are impactado.
* At the creek, Rico talks with Mario as he and Jesus fix the bandage to Mario's wounded leg. Rico wonders why the guards attacked like that - he wonders about how to get Cami and his son back - he's disgruntled that his plan backfired. Mario gives his suggestion to lay low, take a break and plan again. Rico grumbles. Crewmember calls out about more guards approaching. Rico and crew help the injured to move again.
* Guard reports to Santo about losing Rico and his crew. Santo is fumigating mad. Justo talks to him about Rico. Santo wants him DEAD! DEAD! DEAD! They have to get him now! Justo asks about Cami, she can't move now. Santo realizes this and she will stay there until she gives birth. Justo reminds Santo that Ofelia made a promise to Cami to be there for the delivery. Santo is more focused on getting Rico right now. Justo is more worried about Cami and her baby.
* Crew restrains Mario on the ground, and provide him with swigs of alcohol from a full bottle as Guero works to remove the bullet from Mario's leg wound. Mario screams and struggles with the pain. Rico and Jesus are spying on the road from below an embankment. Rico isn't happy to see all the soldiers riding around. They leave.
* At the campfire, Rico reminds the crew why they are there - to get Cami and his son. Rico says despite all appearance, Justo is an honorable man whom he respects. He has no ulterior motive against the blacksmith (Santo) either. Mario brandishes his sword and gives his commentary. Rico moves over to Mario and talks with him about feeling like a coward today. Mario says he isn't, he is very brave and Cami is strong also. He has to have faith that they will be together again. Rico does have faith.
* Justo visits Cami in her room. Cami asks if Rico has come to visit her. Justo says no. Cami begs Justo for piety. Justo refuses the request. Cami informs Justo about Rico's letter that he never received - she says in the letter, Rico explains his whole life and his profound love for Cami. Justo says none of that will change his opinion of Rico now. Justo tells Cami that Santo has sent for Ofelia to come. Cami is content; she's scared and doesn't want to lose her baby. Just then Cami screams out really loud due to the pain of contractions. Justo, nervous, runs to the door and yells for Santo to come. Santo and the lady (Tomasa) enter. Santo will go get the local midwife. Tomasa stays with Cami.
* Auxiliadora is busy in her cottage - she is helping Conchita give birth in the main room. There's a knock on the door. Auxiliadora is too busy to open it. Santo enters and his eyeballs look like they are about to pop out of his head to see Conchita in labor. Santo explains to Auxiliadora that she is needed immediately. Auxiliadora can't, she's busy right now. Santo leaves to get Cami. Auxiliadora has Conchita push - baby is born (dead) and Conchita rests.
* Santo returns to the hacienda main house. He rushes passed Tomasa at the door - he's in a hurry. In the room, he explains to Justo that the midwife is busy and can't come. They will have to take Cami to her cottage instead. Justo and Santo struggle to help Cami, still in pain from the contractions, out of bed and walk her out of the room. Tomasa carries a napsack for Cami.
* Auxiliadora is reviewing her money bags and mumbling about the dead baby. A knock at the door. Auxiliadora works quickly to hide the bags and cover up the dead baby before opening the door. Santo and Justo enter with a very weak Cami. Auxiliadora has them put her on the bed in her room. Cami lays on the bed. Auxiliadora tells Santo and Justo they need to leave now, and let her do her work. Santo only stands and stares at Cami. Justo kneels by the bed and doesn't want to leave. Cami insists they go. Justo and Santo stare at each other.
* Outside the cottage, Justo tells Auxiliadora if there is anything they can do for Cami, tell them. Santo says they will wait there all night if they have to. Auxiliadora thinks they are nuts and returns inside.
* In the bedroom, Cami tells Auxiliadora that she prays her baby boy is born alive and healthy. In the other room, Conchita wakes up and notes that her baby girl isn't moving - Auxiliadora lies and explains something to her and gives her some tea to let her sleep.
* Santo and Justo are mumbling together outside. Justo complains to Santo about not letting Ofelia come and take care of Cami, like she promised.
* Auxiliadora returns to bedroom; she kneels and starts to coach Cami through childbirth. Cami screams really loud as she pushes.
* As the crew sleeps around the campfire, Rico is on night watch. He thought bubbles about how it might be to hold his son in his arms and be with Cami again. He sits down and rests and continues to thought-bubble.
* Guards stop in front of the house in San Fernando. Alberto crawls out of the coach and falls to the ground. He yells at the guards not to help him. Guards help him stand up. As Alberto and the guards enter, Alberto starts screaming at Luis and the other servant to CALL THE DOCTOR! Luis scurries away. Manuela and Fran enter as Alberto reaches his room. They are mortified by Alberto's bloody appearance. Alberto screams about Antillano and vows definite revenge against him. Alberto orders Manuela to get him his robe and bedclothes. Manuela scurries.
* Auxiliadora continues to coach Cami through childbirth. Cami finally gives birth. The baby boy screams. Cami faints.
* Fran wakes Lis and tells her about Alberto being blind in his left eye now. Lis is curious to go see him - Fran tells her that he's like a wild monster right now, best to wait for the doctor to examine him first. Lis wants to know all the details. Fran only relays what little she heard Alberto grunt.
* Auxiliadora gives Conchita a little tea and places a baby in her arms.
* Guards arrive at Ofelia's house, inform Ofelia that Santo has sent for her, it's an emergency and she needs to leave right now. Ofelia runs to the room for her things.
* In the sewing room, Jimena helps Ofelia with her basket of herbs and convinces Ofelia to let her come along.
* Auxiliadora pushes Conchita and the baby out of the cottage quickly. Conchita asks about Cami - Auxiliadora only says that she's really bad and her baby died. Auxiliadora escorts Conchita and the baby outside.
* Outside, as Conchita leaves with the baby, Auxiliadora talks with the guard as she escorts him inside.
* In the bedroom, Auxiliadora checks on the still unconscious and feverish Cami, restless and calling out for Rico and her baby son. Auxiliadora picks up the baby from the cradle.
* Ines skips over to the shop and talks with the twins, Pancho and Crispin. She is visiting her mom. Pancho and Crispin inform her that Ofelia, Ascanio and Jimena left rather early this morning with some guards and in a coach. Ines is curious.
* Rico and crew stop on the trail. Rico and Mario argue over Rico's using his heart instead of his head, in regards to Cami and his son. Some guards appear nearby and start to shoot. Rico and crew leave quickly.
* In his bed, Doctor cares for Alberto's wounds. Alberto grunts, grimaces and yells about Antillano. Lis, Fran and Manuela are in the room listening.
* Ines talks with Vasco at the mill office about Ofelia, Jimena and Ascanio leaving town early this morning. Vasco is worried about his dad and sister. Ines consoles and advises him to think positive.
* Santo and Justo arrive at the cottage. Auxiliadora meets them outside and takes them in. Santo and Justo are muy impactado at the sight of Cami laying in bed. Auxiliadora explains she's had a high-grade fever (puerpal fever) since giving birth and could very well die; and the baby died. Santo and Justo kneel beside the bed. Justo begs Cami for forgiveness. Santo cries as he holds Cami in his arms. Cami cries and asks for her baby. Auxiliadora observes with interest.
ADVANCE: Auxiliadora reports to Fran about Cami's poor health and about the baby boy - Cami has been told he died, but he is alive and healthy and will be given to Fran in a few days.

04/08/08 Guapos "I choose to dedicate a shoutout to whatever 8th grade class writes this diatribe"
Anyhow we see the church and Luci in her black clothes of mourning, Al is on the plane with Pilar who exits to the restroom. We see Al pull out the recorder which has Hugo confessing that Mili has no idea of his compliance in the fake dead fetus staircase nonsense. We don’t hear it, but one can indeed guess where this is going.
Rocky & Gardener guy are waiting to drive Mili to the church. She comes down and she does look good, I personally feel her hair would have looked better up, but hey if that was my only complaint.
Gardener is wearing a black suit with his shirt tails out and tennis shoes. I don’t know why.
Now some chit chat with snarky Luci and the Padre. The Padre is overwhelmed that his lil Mili is getting married, Luci is all nasty with the servant slams.
Pilar has returned from the bathroom….Egads Al is gone, she tries to get them to stop the plane, as she tells her tale of woe, two extremely bored flight attendants say the plane is moving and you are SOL, Pilar whines some more and the Stews thought bubble that they wish they could have gotten off the plane.
The car pulls up and someone jumps in and drives off with Mili in the car. Gardener Guy does not chase the car, so he was wearing tennis shoes for why? Anyway mucho gritoing and wringing of hands, people run out of the church; Hugo is muy impacted..he will soon be much more muy impacted, but at this point he steals a motorcycle from some poor kid, who is yet another victim of this chaos called a script.
Rocky and Gardener Guy try to stop him; but of course to no avail. Now Andrea and Carla, (ah who knew they’d be serving Ho-Ho’s at the Wedding) sorry…, anyway the girls take off in Andrea’s hot lil red sportscar. Shoutout to Consti’s taste in sock-knocking presents. The chiclets are in hawt pursuit of, well I’m not sure, but it is bound to be more fun than the wedding.
Whomever is driving the car…(Yeh, I am building suspense, I don’t want to give it away), is wearing a convenient ski mask and sun glasses, I am sure the mask is available on any street corner in Mexico City, being that it is quite snowy in Mexico City. Always the little firecracker, Mili while screaming non stop jerks the mask off. OMG, as the blonde curls tumble out, at last we see who the kidnapper is….it is Al.
I must pause here for a moment…Sorry, I was overcome remembering the emotion of the moment.
Now, the screaming continues, Mili is furious, Al is screaming back that he has saved her from a fate worse than death; marrying his BSC cuz.
In a true Wiley E. Coyote moment BSC Hugo lies smashed on the pavement, I’m not sure, but I think in a fit of trying to recapture his bride, he rode into an open door. Maybe the guy ran into him, anyway the bike is in pieces (ha ha ha with the tell tale oft use useless bent wheel spinning aimlessly) Hugo lies on the pavement as Andrea and Karla run up. Hugo is bleeding and at least Karla has the decency to appear concerned. Andrea is like, stay with bloody boy, I’m off in hawt pursuit of the bride snatcher. Yes, Andrea did betray her poor upbringing with her behavior. Hugo doesn’t look like he is long for this world.
Now we go back to Al and Mili fighting in the car, you can tell by the background circus music this is supposed to be a light moment after the Hugo paving the pavement. Mili is in the backseat and choking him while he drives. Seriously I have seen the streets of Mexico City…No freaking way. First there is a stop light at every corner and the traffic is always thick, but for the sake of the story let’s just pretend this could actually happen. The choking fighting and screaming continues Mili ends up getting pulled up into the front seat and the hilarity continues.
Meanwhile back at the church, Luci laments all their weddings turn out bad, referring to the prior escapades of Val and married guy. Damien wants to call the cops, but Luci doesn’t want the scandal over a servant. Then realizing they weren’t yet married, Luci cheers up, that way it won’t reflect badly on the family.
Back to the young lovers:
Either Scotty beamed the Car of Kidnapping to a lovely spot by a flowing river, or we are just supposed to assume you can speed out of Mexico City and be out in the country in a matter of moments. Anyhow, it is quite a pastoral scene and guess what there is a shack too. Mili demands he take her back and Al thows the keys off into somewhere, I am sure they will never be found. Good times
Meanwhile, no one has called the police, no one, not the servants, not the family, not the ever helpful Padre. The only thing I can come up with for this really strange inconsistencies is the Mexican version of “Miss Smith’s 8th Grade English class” is writing the scripts.
Luci plays the whole thing off, Gloves is upset, but Luci backs him down. Val seems to think this is all a bit strange, but suddenly she remembers it isn’t about her and her thoughts flit elsewhere. Val laughs that Pa is gonna be P.O’d when he finds out the coche has been stolen. Luci says he’ll buy another…they laugh.
Al ties Mili up at the cabin, she won’t shut the hell up. He gags her, he just wants her to listen to him. Oh he loves her so much and so on. He tells her how much he loves her and then seeing she has calmed down, he ungags her. Oh Al will you never learn? She asks him to untie her and he does. She stands up and looks all seductive and motions him over to the bed, with the universal come hither eye movement. Oh crap did I forget to mention our lil cabin of dreams has a rustic quilt covered bed? Nothing says hawt sex in the country like a ready waiting quilt covered double bed with one corner coyly turned down. Well Al, thinks he is gonna get awesome lucky, he ventures over and Mili she gives him the eye and BLAM she gives him a right to the side of the head, she runs out and Al is rendered even more ineffective than normal writhing on the bed, but so not in a good way.
Damien picks up Consti from the airport. Good, something else to make this more bearable, Consti is wearing a very nice leather jacket. Really I am reduced to rolling over for these little bones.
Damien starts filling Consti in on how Luci has taken over the company, she is the President and she is living large in Consti’s office. This leads to a classic “No Puede Ser” Cesar Evora look. Damien never mentions the wedding debacle.
At some point we are beamed to “Cruz Rojo”, where Karla is awaiting news regarding Hugo. A doctor comes out and tells her; Hugo has regained consciousness. Karla says that is good, but the doctor says wait there is more..isn’t there always? Hugo has lost his memory. Karla gets a cha ching look on her face.
Now then back at the Mansion, Consti arrives, Granny is wringing her hands cause oh yeah, Mili is missing, the good Padre, Father Ineffectual is pacing the floor. Consti comes in all upset over Luci duping him out of the company. Granny tries to tell him about Mili, but he doesn’t have time for servant nonsense.
The Padre forces Consti to speak with him. Much in the spirit of the Pope, Consti grants the Padre a brief audience in his study. ---Question---where do those steps in Consti’s office go? Anyway Padre Ineffectual tells Consti that his daughter was kidnapped, of course Consti thinks Val has been napped again. No it is MiliGol. “Who?” Once again the Padre must explain, your secret Bastard kid. It ends up with are you concerned about your kid or about how much you might have to pay to get her back? Consti doesn’t answer. Thank you Consti, like when an angel gets its wings, an anvil just fell and a demon was allowed to get its trident. AssHat.
Now Mili is sitting outside the shack of dreams, cue the chirping birds and unscrew the top off jar of butterflies. Now in a totally awesome moment we see Mili has scrounged some seriously oversized clothes and she is having yet another one of her one-on-one’s with either, the Father, the Son or the Holy Ghost. She laments her life, is she supposed to always be by herself. Geez Ellie Mae, it is okay to be eighteen and not married. Anyway keeping in form with trying the encourage Mili to think for herself, the Holy Trinity remain silent. Al creeps up on her. Mores screaming, arguing and so on. Wouldn’t you think Mili would find the creeping part enduring as she was going to marry Hugo?
Const, goes into the bedroom to meet his Stepford wife, version two, the Espanol model. Luci is now talking like a sit com wife. Ricky sorry I mean Consti, tells Lucy she is never going to be in the show. Oh my love, she does the vacant valley thing.. finally it comes down to she knows he and Damien committed fraud and he has two choice, STFU and pursue his political career, leaving screwing the company up to her or he and brother dearest can do time in jail. Consti, says “Hey Beeotch, I’ll take Al with me”. “Not so, my soap picking up beloved, Al has left the country”. Muy Impacto…Luci says she doesn’t know where he has gone nor does she know he know when he will return. She does all this without blinking, in a valley voice and Consti is forced to twirl his figurative moustache and say “Curses Foiled Again”
Pilar calls Val and tells her that Al jumped ship, Que the Hell!
My advise to Luci, order several cases of booze cause, that little albatross bastard you’ve carried around your neck for years….He’s Baaaacccckkkkk
Al and Mili have gone back into the cabin of promises, Al calls Granny and tells her…Shhhhh don’t say a word, but Mili is fine. Granny glows like a Christmas tree. She won’t tell Gloves the details, but Mili is okay.
Meanwhile, Karla goes into to Hugo’s room, he is wearing one of those neck stabilizers. He opens his eyes and she says your name is Hugo Whatever and I am you girlfriend Karla. Considering the way no one communicates any information to anyone else at the big house, this could possibly be a brilliant plan. I say you go girl.
Okay that is about all I can say…
Feel free to fill in.
Looks like tomorrow we see the tried and true TeleNovela plot of the Star Crossed lovers only wish they could remain in the Paradise of Quilt filled Cabins.
Consti gets a nine tonight for not caring that his kid has been abducted and just being a Prick in general..it would have been a 9.5, but he had me at leather jacket.

La Traición, April 8- Hugo plans a baptism where vengeance will be served and lies abound
Hugo asks if Soledad is sure that she wants to come back to live with him. She says yes. Her daughter couldn't be in a more secure place. Hugo is happy that Soledad believes that. Eloisa says such precautions are not necessary; her fiancé Arturo has promised not to harm any of them. Soledad wants to discuss the conditions of her living there with Hugo but without Eloisa being present. Hugo sends Soledad to settle in and escorts Eloisa outside. Eloisa tells Hugo that he must be happy that Soledad has returned. Every time Eloisa tries to get close to Hugo, she gets pushed farther away. Hugo says that he can't offer Eloisa anything. He is married. He asks her not to make sacrifices for him. If she doesn't love Arturo, she shouldn't marry him. Eloisa says that it is too late. She got Arturo to give up his feud with Alcides and now she has to fulfill her part of the bargain and marry him. Hugo says that he doesn't remember their relationship and Eloisa says that she hopes his memory returns soon. Boris says that Arturo and armed men are coming. Hugo takes Eloisa back inside the Hacienda.
Elena prevents Dr. Max from killing Guillermo. Elena suspects that Guillermo is faking being blind and she tries to prove it by putting his violin in the floor in front of him. He really is blind so he steps on it and destroys it. He is devastated and Elena is sorry. (That's the second violin of Guillermo's that Elena has destroyed.)
Beatriz revives Alcides and reminds him that she has total control over whether he lives or dies. Alcides starts to shake and says that he doesn't feel well. Beatriz says that his symptoms are a side effect of the medicine she gave to revive him. She is annoyed that she needs to go to the clinic to get different medicine for him.
Ursula thinks that Eloisa is interested in Alcides and is jealous of Soledad. Soledad says that she doesn't care about Alcides that way and Eloisa is going out with Arturo. She is only at the Hacienda to protect her daughter. When the threat from Arturo is over, she wants to return home to her parents. Hugo comes in and says that armed men are approaching and they have to go to a safe place.
Paquito tries to egg Arturo's men on to kill Alcides so that Eloisa will be his. Eloisa goes outside to stop the attack. The men say that their assignment is to capture Alcides but Arturo shows up and tells them to obey his fiancé. Arturo wants to know why Eloisa is at Alcides' house. She says that she followed Arturo's men when she saw them approaching the Hacienda to prevent a massacre. Arturo tells her not to mess in his business and she tells him that he has to stop jeopardizing his safety with this feud. Arturo is moved that Eloisa was concerned about his safety. Eloisa says that she wants her future husband alive and at peace with everyone.
Hugo leads his women and children (Marina stays with Boris) into safety in the secret passages. Soledad remembers when someone led her out of the Hacienda when Arturo had attacked the Hacienda and a fire broke out. She decides that it was Alcides who led her out of the house but how could that be when he had just been trapped in the mine? Ursula reminds her that they were told it was Boris who led her out and Hugo supports this version of what happened.
With his women safe, Hugo decides to go and talk to Arturo. Marina tells Boris that Hugo always risks his life that way because he knows that Boris will save him.
At the Obragon house, Lucas comes down for breakfast and is told that Soledad has returned to her husband. He is angry that Ester and Antonia permitted this. Ester points out that if he hadn't been drunk, he could have given Soledad his advice. He leaves to go see Soledad.
Arturo tells Hugo that thanks to Eloisa he doesn't want to fight anymore. Hugo asks why Arturo has armed men on his property. Arturo says it was a misunderstanding and leaves. Hugo tells Boris that Eloisa is beautiful and brave. (Gag.)
Dr. Pablo finds Beatriz rummaging in the medicine cabinet again. She has a bottle of adrenaline. He asks what she needs that for. Beatriz tells him it is for a patient with a terminal illness. Dr. Pablo says that he doesn't believe her. He knows that she is living with a man. He wants to know who the guy is that she is living with and whether this medicine is for him. She says that she is happy living with the guy but Dr. Pablo asks why she is so nervous. She says that the guy is ill. Pablo offers to examine the guy but Beatriz refuses. Dr. Pablo appears to buy this very lame explanation and gives Beatriz the adrenaline. He says that he hopes Beatriz is telling the truth.
Hugo wants to have Aurora baptised and registered so that everyone will know that she is Alcides' daughter. Soledad doesn't think it is the right time for a baptism and registration or a party. Hugo doesn't understand why she is hesitating. Boris comes in to tell Hugo that Lucas has arrived and is very agitated. Hugo excuses himself. Soledad tells Ursula that Alcides hasn't wasted any time in showing his true colors. Ursula says that she doesn't understand her concern. She reminds Soledad that registering Aurora as Alcides' daughter was part of the deal when she married Alcides. Soledad says that she knows that would happen sooner or later but she is worried about betraying Hugo's memory.
Hercu-less comes to see Arturo to explain what happened at the Taverna. Arturo says that there is no justification for his stupidity. "How could you have have taken Soledad hostage in front of everyone?" ask Arturo. Arturo tells him never to take any action without his permission again and whacks Hercules in the goolies with his cane to make sure he gets the message.
Paquito congratulates Eloisa on her tactics with Alcides. He is sure that Alcides will fall hard for her. Eloisa isn't so sure. Soledad's return to Alcides has complicated things. Alcides used to have contempt for Soledad but now he treats her with respect. Paquito attributes this to the fact that Soledad has given Alcides a child. A child brings a couple together. Eloisa says that she isn't going to let that brat come between her and her plans to get Alcides. She will do what she has to to make Alcides hers. (So Aurora just got a new enemy and a dangerous one.)
At the Hacienda, Lucas tells Hugo that Soledad shouldn't be there. Hugo says, "Why not? Are you afraid that I will harm her?" Lucas says, "Of course, you did it before. You might do it again." At this point Soledad starts overhearing the conversation. Hugo tells Lucas that his time away made him realize the mistakes he had made in the past. No one cried when he was supposedly dead and many people were happy. He has changed. Now he wants to enjoy having a family and he wants to enjoy love." Lucas says that if he thinks his daughter could love him, he is mistaken. Soledad only loved one man and that was Hugo. Hugo is impactado and says, "Ok so you are saying that Soledad never loved me (Alcides)." Before Lucas can continue, Soledad interrupts. She assures her father that Alcides didn't force her to move in with him and that she is doing this to protect the baby. Then she changes the subject and says that on second thought, she agrees to have Aurora baptized at the Hacienda. Hugo is happy. Lucas thinks that Soledad is acting strangely but he leaves assuring Soledad that he and Ester are always there for her.
Hugo asks Soledad to confirm what Lucas said. Did she really love Hugo? Soledad tries to avoid the question by saying that her father drinks a lot and is confused. Hugo says that Lucas looked sober to him so answer the the question. Soledad denies that she ever loved Hugo. Her father probably said that to annoy Alcides and anyway he already knew that. She changes the subject back to her conditions for living with Alcides: she won't sleep in the same room with him, their relationship will be cordial, she will come and go as she pleases without asking his permission. Hugo agrees. He doesn't want to sleep with her in any room; she can come and go as she pleases but if she leaves the Hacienda with the baby, she has to take Boris or some other trusted servant for protection. Soledad agrees.
Soledad tells Boris that they are going to the store but she goes to Hugo's tomb and is shocked at its condition. Speaking to Hugo, she apologizes for not coming before but her pregnancy and the birth of her daughter prevented her. She tells him that she has to have Aurora baptized as Alcides' daughter to protect her but she promises that when Aurora grows up she will tell her who her real father is and begs his forgiveness. Boris has followed them and is watching this. He does not understand why Soledad is so upset, why she came to the cemetery and brought flowers to Hugo's grave.
Back at the Hacienda, Boris tells Marina that he thinks Soledad really loved Hugo. Marina responds that Soledad is not capable of loving anyone. She probably just felt guilty for all the things she did to betray Hugo. Boris doesn't agree. Marina warns Boris not to mention this to Hugo since it will just upset him. Hugo overhears this last remark as he comes in to the room and asks what they are talking about. Marina says it is nothing. Hugo is planning the baptism and is distracted. He wants to send invitations to the most prestigious families in the city including the Linares. Marina is surprised that Hugo would want to let his worst enemies into his house. Hugo ignores her and gives the list of invitees to Boris instructing him to investigate and find their weaknesses. Marina tells Hugo that when talks about his plan, it makes her afraid. Hugo says that his plan is dangerous. They have time to decide whether they want to participate or not. Boris pipes right up and says that he is always with Hugo. Marina hesitates but says that if Boris is in, she is in.
Lucas goes to see Rebeca and manages to arrive when she is half naked. Lucas tells Rebeca that Soledad and her baby have gone to live with Alcides. "Is Enrico there, too?" asks Rebeca casually. Lucas says that no one knows where Enrico lives. Rebeca says that she heard Enrico tell Lucas something about the treasure. Does Lucas know what Enrico meant? Lucas says he was drunk and doesn't remember anything. Rebeca asks Lucas to keep her informed about what is going on and he says that he will. When Lucas leaves, Rebeca says that she hopes having to put out for an old geezer like Lucas will turn out to lead her to the treasure.
A week passes: Soledad takes care of her baby and waters a garden; she strolls in the plaza with Hugo; Eloisa has sex with Arturo; Eloisa ignores Paquito; Beatriz throws buckets of water on Alcides; Guillermo learns to function as a blind person.
Arturo receives an invite to the baptism. He doesn't want to go. Eloisa wants him to go to show that he has really buried the hatchet with Alcides. Gladis states that all the best families are going so they will too.
Paquito bribes the druggist to sell him some poison. His plan is to get Eloisa back by poisoning Hugo and putting the blame on Arturo.
Boris reports to Hugo on a report received from the investigators searching for young Dr. Chirac. It turns out that he is doing research in Africa. Boris also reports that the people old Dr. Chirac sent to find the flower may have found traces of it in the deepest regions of the Amazon. Hugo asks about how the plans for the baptism are going. Boris reports thats the invitations have been delivered and Boris has done his investigation on the invitees. He turned up interesting information on Rebeca and Hercules. Hugo reads this information but we don't know what it is. Hugo asks Boris if he has contacted the mining engineer as instructed. Boris says that he has. "Good," says Hugo, "my plan of vengeance begins tonight." (People on novelas are always having private conversations in large rooms with lots of places for others to overhear. Since Hugo has to keep Soledad and Ursula from finding out his real identity, not to mention his plan of vengeance, you would think he would be more careful but he isn't.) Soledad hears the last part of his conversation with Boris. "What vengeance are you talking about?" she asks, "What are you planning?" The credits roll.
Tomorrow: the baptism party

Juan-Tuesday April 8, '08 People Think About Jumping But Nobody Does
Now we have a little montage of Nidia walking around the city, looking worried, especially when she sees a couple of policemen hauling off miscreants. Pounding piano music in background as she stands on a bridge and looks down at traffic streaming below. We had this same scene with someone else in another telenovela, can't remember which at the time. That person didn't jump either.
We wondered if we'd see Cesar Luis again and we do...and he's looking awful. Sitting in a bar in Vancouver, Canada, slugging down whiskey and being rude to the waiter. The Canadian scenery is gorgeous and contrasts with Cesar's ugly looks. He really seems to have deteriorated physically.
Nidia has safely crossed the bridge and headed into a church to pray to...guess who?..Santo Niño de Atocha. We don't hear her words but there's a choir singing in the background. Seeing Nidia pray is a surreal experience. We know there must be big changes due.
Enrique, meanwhile, looking very much like a busy mom, is holding the phone twixt shoulder and head while he rinses out a baby bottle. He's talking deliveries with Remolacho, who probably would prefer that Enrique were there in the warehouse. Well, maybe not, given how they get along.
Marely and Yadira are in a taxi on the way to the office. They're discussing Yadira's dramatic expulsion from the university while the taxi driver's eyes widen, listening to every word. Yadira defends her hair-pulling of Señora Topete while Marely rolls her eyes in horror.
Meanwhile, Pastor, toupee askew, is stressing in Juan's office and crying on Ivonne's shoulder. It's time for the meeting with Campeoni! What do I do? Where's Juan? The ship is sinking and I'll have to go down with it. Nothing, not even a miracle will save us. Ivonne advises him not to get an ulcer over it, but it falls on deaf ears.
Bad scene with Cesar Luis. He's thoroughly drunk, the manager is trying to get him to leave. Finally they call in the bouncer. Cesar pushes him off but chooses to leave in a macho huff.
Now a tidy little role reversal. Paula is at the gallery talking with Ana, and it's Paula who's thoughtful and mild after listening to Nidia, and Ana who's furious and bitter. They both agree the worst part of the fraud was they were left thinking Papa Cachon didn't care anything about them, when in fact they were loved even more than his own family. And Paula knows how Ana suffered, thinking they were unloved. It's not right!
Alirio, in his hokey disguise, arrives at the jail to see Gutis.
And Nidia arrives home. When she sees Enrique with baby, she thinks all is well, Yadira has returned. He sets her straight...the baby is only here temporarily until Yadira and Topete get themselves organized and in a better place. Nidia is amazed to hear that Alirio has turned himself in and muses that not only is he noble, he's far more noble than she.
Our not so noble Cesar is still running his short man/macho number, feinting going back to tackle the bouncer but finally stalking off, kicking a concrete pylon and lighting a cigarette. Time for the relief of some advertisements.
When we come back, Enrique and Nidia are musing about Alirio's sacrifice and Kike tells her, "It's because he adores you, Nidia". Nidia looks thoughtful. Bit of a stretch for our gal pal.
Alirio, looking neither noble nor sacrificial but quite ridiculous in his disguise is explaining his visit to Gutis. I'm a fugitive from justice but they know now about the fraud. I want you to promise me that you won't divulge that Nidia was in on it. Keep her out of it. Gutis wants something in return of course....for Alirio to help him escape.
Quick scene switch to Laura, in another of her Tarts-R-Us sweater dress and tights, phoning the office to ask for Juan. Doesn't want to leave a message when she hears he's not in. She'll call back later.
Marely and Yadira arrive, also looking for Juan. Julia tells them he hasn't arrived and then we're treated to a scene of Yadira and Julia practically hissing at each other. If looks could kill! And the current Julia is a babe (played the secretary on Heridas) so watch out Yadira, this one is serious competition.
The interview with Alirio and Gutis is not going well. Alirio doesn't think he can bust him out. Gutis threatens then to blow the whole story sky high (soltar la sopa completa). You'll go down with me. Face it, I'm rotting here in jail and you're walking around free.
Maybe not for long. Paula is on the phone to her lawyer, ,making an appointment, but lo and behold, says she's going to wait and hear what HE has to say before making a decision about the fraud. The rehab of Paula has begun in earnest. Mom tells her of Willy's offer to be her partner in the gallery. Paul counsels caution..."you don't know him that well". but looks like Ana is going ahead with it. For one thing, romantic music plays every time she talks to Willy so I guess we know where this one is headed.
Juan FINALLY arrives at the office and is mobbed by all sorts of people swarming around him like bees. He brushes them off and escapes into his office, only to find Pastor already there, toupee still listing at half mast. Pastor is frothing at the mouth. We have to handle the Campeoni matter! You're fiddling while Rome burns!
Juan thought bubbles that Pastor is doubting his authority and he needs to set things straight right now. He orders him out of the office, informs him that if Pastor wants to see him, he needs to be announced through Ivonne, blows on the offending hairpiece and tells him to straighten it, and "zas!", poor Pastor is booted out.
Juanito is faring no better at school...except perhaps with the girls. One young lass bids him good-bye and gets her hair pulled by her friend. Then the three bullies arrive and tell him they're out to get him and when he least expects it, whomp, they're going to give him a good "mandarina" (thrashing). Prof Pomposo walks out, sees the boys sauntering off and looks thoughtful.
Cesar Luis, looking worse and worse, is now in a restaurant downing more whiskey. He confides in the waiter that "they're all the same". Waiter tells his own sad story of his wife running off with his best friend.
Makes you want to kill them, right? says Cesar. Yes, and also to kill myself. But time heals those wounds. And it was a long time ago. I took a boat, left, and ended up here. We have a super brief scene of Cesar on a hanging bridge looking over a ravine and we break for ads again.
When we come back, he's on the rocks. (Just kidding) Well, actually, he IS on the rocks, but he's sitting on them, safe and sound.
Nidia, at home, calls Marely at the office. Marely is relieved to hear from her and thinks she must be relieved herself after talking to Paula. Well....not so much. Paula was furious and Nidia figures she's probably facing a jail term. Well, the most important thing is that you're home, Marely sighs.
Juan, with a picture of Santo Niño looking over his shoulder, is now giving Ivonne the drill on her new duties. Don't move from your desk! And don't send anyone in without announcing them first!
Now who do you think is the most important? he adds. Pastor! Nope, he wants her to send in Fernando, first and then Yadira. THEN I'll see Pastor.
We flick back to Cesar, looking ever worse, bundled up in a black coat, dragging a suitcase, contemplating a ship, all with sad cello music playing like a dirge in the background. I know we're supposed to be worried at this point, but who would believe Cesar would ever harm himself? Oh well....we'll see.
Fernando's now giving Juan a CliffNotes course in business management. 1) Don't go back and forth on business decisions based on what others say 2) There are no "friends" in business so don't make a decision on what I, Fernando, say, for instance. Get the info, analyze it, take your time, and then decide. What you've got going for you is "astucia" (shrewdness) so make your own decisions.
We get a scene with Nidia and Enrique in the truck with baby. She's saying she won't be able to help with the little one if she's in jail. And worse, she's going to look horrible in those prison uniforms!
Back to the CliffNotes. Juan is complaining that Pastor is pressuring him ("duro y dale presionandame"). Fernando is firm. It's not enough to be the boss just sitting behind the desk. Think! And it's for others to be afraid of you, not you of them. Juan grasps the lesson all too well, and....treating Fernando like an employe rather than a friend, asks him to pour Juan a drink (no offer of a drink for Fernando you notice!)
Outside, Pastor is buzzing around Ivonne bleating "Has he asked for me? I have to wait!? Who does he think he is?!" (or words to that effect)
"The boss" answers Ivonne.
Fernando emerges, looking stunned and tells Marely he's created a monster. Nothing quite as frightening as someone new to power and using it for all it's worth. A new king is on the throne....and it is Juan. The ads come back while we're left wondering if Juan's going to change for the worse while Paula (is it possible?) changes for the better.
No change for the better with Cesar. Now he's aboard ship, but still clutching a glass of whiskey and muttering "Hasta nunca, Paula Davila, hasta nunca!" More ominous pounding piano music. I try to worry but I just can't.
Now Juan is giving a CliffNotes business lesson to Pastor. Campeoni may be in a hurry but why should we be? They want to sell. We need to take time to be sure we want to buy. Pastor is in a hurry to nail it down but Juan says he needs time to think....and offers Gaytan some chocolates.
Then he proposes making Fernano director of business development. Pastor is so upset he squeaks...there's no such thing as that office! And what...to you want to makeJulia the switchboard operator director of communications!? and Marely general manager!?
Hey, great idea Juan enthuses. You're creating posts like a political candidate would, retorts Pastor. There are rules, regulations! Do you think power has gone to my head ?(se me trepo a la cabezota) Juan asks. Pastor clearly thinks so.
Paula has arrived at the office and asks to speak to Marely privately. Marely, looking like a lamb to the slaughter, dutifully follows her into Paula's office. Now, miracle of miracles, Paula apologizes for her rant and false accusations, while also adding, but you have to understand how upset I was. And of course Marely does. Paula also adds that she still plans to bring the full weight of the law down on Alirio and Nidia, even though she's Marely's mother. Marely looks pale but replies, "Do what you have to do."
Cesar Luis is strolling down memory lane and it's a bummer. Ivonne telling him he did everything to kill her love for him. Monica saying she expected better of him. Paula expressing her desire for separation and divorce.
And we're at the police station where Nidia is schmoozing the desk man (sexy seduction music in background) to find out where Alirio is, since he has supposedly turned himself in.
Yadira is in full steam Cachon mode, throwing a tantrum because Juan hasn't seen her yet. Fernando quips, "Why are you in such a hurry. Have to run home and fix dinner for Topete?" She figures Enrique's "defense team" is all there but she doesn't back down any, just goes for the jugular with Ivonne, making her call Juan and then snatching the phone from her and demanding to see him.
Juan is still squabbling with Pastor about the rules (let's not complicate this with rules, argues our hero) while Yadira bullies her way into entry within TWO MINUTES.
Pastor tells Juan to get his priorities straight and Juan replies that he'll never turn his back on friends. (that's good news) All this said as he tries out Santo Niño on various walls and church music plays in the background. Pastor reminds him that he must follow the "organigrama" (flow chart, business organization chart). Juan tells Pastor to take care of it, flubbing it by calling it an "organo" or "organis" or whatever it is you said!
And out goes Pastor and in blows Yadira, who wants a job.
We end this episode with another grim picture of Cesar Luis, looking glumly at the wake of the ship (lovely shot of turbulent waters....mirroring his turbulent thoughts no doubt) and finally hoisting up a leg like he's going to jump over the rail.
Will he or won't he? And do we care? Tune in tomorrow to find out.
