La Traición, Thurs, May 29 - It's Father's Day and Dr. Dan and Michelle realize they have an upward climb

Loves his daughter!

Loves her Daddy!

Dr. Dan says that he will cherish Soledad’s kiss in his heart forever. Every time he feels sad, he will remember that kiss. Soledad says that she doesn’t want to disillusion him but that was a thank you kiss. Dr. Dan says it was the most sweet, tender and beautiful kiss he has ever received in his life. He repeats that he loves her, he loves her like he’s never loved anyone in his life.

Eloisa tells Alcides that it was just a friendly kiss. He shouldn’t worry. Alcides says that Dr. Dan will pay dearly for it. Eloisa tells Alcides that he needs to be calm (‘tienes que actuar con sangre fria,’ literally, ‘you have to act with cold blood’). She will investigate and find out what Soledad’s intentions are. I don’t care a straw (‘no me importa un bledo’) what he thinks or says, says Alcides, “I want to know what Soledad promised him. Now.”

Soledad tells Dr. Dan that she has to go back inside. She will see him later at the hospital. Dr. Dan says of course, he can’t be there without her. She is his best helper and when she’s not there, the patients don’t stop asking for her and neither does he. She thanks him and leaves.

Boris tells Marina and Ursula to stop fighting. Don’t they see the fire? They could get hurt. He asks Marina what she is doing coming here after all this time. She says that she didn’t come to see him but she was passing by and saw Ursula giving him money and had to come in and tell her to her face what she is: a slut (‘buscona’). Boris tells Marina to leave but she refuses. Ursula says that she will leave. When she is gone, Marina says that she always knew Boris liked Ursula but she is sure that he doesn’t like Ursula as much as he likes her. She says that he must have been thinking about her a lot in all this time. “Don’t tell me that you haven’t missed me,” says Marina, caressing Boris.

Paquito tells himself that the bar will make him a millionaire. The mine investors wasted their money but he has put it to good use. He is auditioning scantily clad ladies for some position.

Soledad show her family the ring. Ester asks if they are engaged. Lucas and Ester express their approval of Dr. Dan. Eloisa breezes in. She’s says that she didn’t want intrude on the family celebration of Lucas’ recovery. Soledad shows her the ring. Eloisa asks if she is engaged. Soledad says that she told Dr. Dan that she need more time to think. Lucas tells her to follow her heart and not make any more errors. Soledad says that she will.

Boris moves away from Marina. He says that she is wrong. What she did destroyed all his feelings for her. Marina says that she doesn’t believe that Boris never thinks of her especially when he’s alone in bed because she is the only woman that has brought him pleasure… At this moment, Hugo walks in. He asks what Marina is doing there.

Lucas tells Soledad that if Dr. Dan really loves her, he will wait. Eloisa tells Soledad that there’s no rush after all she’s been through. If he doesn’t wait, there are other men. Soledad says that there are other men but Dr. Dan is the nicest and most generous man that she knows, except her father of course. Lucas says ‘flatterer’(‘aduladora’). He gripes about not being able to work. Soledad asks Eloisa if she wants to go to the kitchen and help her make things to sell. Not surprisingly, Eloisa has other obligations. She leaves. Michelle comes in and asks if Soledad got the ring. Soledad is surprised that she knew about it. Michelle says that as Dr. Dan’s best friend, she helped him pick out the prettiest ring in the shop. Michelle and Soledad admire the ring. Michelle asks why Soledad isn’t wearing it. She says that she hasn’t accepted Dr. Dan’s proposal. As soon as she is sure, she will wear it. Soledad says that Michelle looks different (that’s what a night with Hugo can do to you).

Hugo asks Marina how dare she come into their place of business. He has dropped the charges against her but he hasn’t forgiven her. Her lies nearly got him killed on the gallows. Boris tells her to get out. Boris apologizes for letting her in. Hugo says that Boris hasn’t forgotten her. Boris says that it is hard to forget someone that you loved. “Tell me about it,” says Hugo, “I’ve been trying to forget Soledad for three months. Trying to get her out of my mind and thoughts but it is impossible. But we have to move forward. We have to open our hearts to new things.” Boris asks if he is saying that because of Michelle. Boris asks what happened at the thank you dinner he gave for Michelle. Hugo says that it was a beautiful moment, truly unique but as he said before, he tried not to think of Soledad but he couldn’t.

Soledad says that women have a sixth sense about these things. She is oozing happiness. Michelle hesitates and Soledad says, “Hugo? Your happiness is related to something that has to do with Hugo?” (What could that be Soledad?) Soledad says that she is not asking for an explanation. She cleared the way for Michelle to be with Hugo. Michelle says that she is very embarrassed. Soledad says that she shouldn’t be embarrassed. Michelle should feel free to tell her anything. “It’s true,” replies Michelle, “Hugo and I slept together.” Soledad is impactada.

Alcides is about to send Hercu-less to give a letter to Eloisa when she comes in and says that she need to speak to him in private. Herc leaves. Nervously, Alcides asks if she spoke to Soledad. What is she going to do? Eloisa tells him to relax. Soledad did not accept Dr. Dan’s proposal. She says that Soledad asked Dr. Dan for time to think about it. Alcides still has time to win her. Alcides says that he has to act fast before it’s too late.

Arturo broods on taking vengeance on Alcides. Because of Alcides, he has been converted into a useless man. It turns out that Arturo is brooding outside of Alcides’ house and Arturo sees Herc leaving. He calls him over and asks why is coming out of the house of his worst enemy. (Get those brain cells working, Herc!)

Michelle says that she shouldn’t have told Soledad. Soledad says that it would have been worse if she had hidden it. Michelle asks Soledad to forgive her but Soledad says that she has nothing to forgive. Things have been clear between them since the beginning. Soledad says that it was she who suggested that Michelle and Hugo get together. “Hugo and I have the right to be happy, right?” says Soledad, “We need to restart our lives.” Michelle says that she knows that Soledad hasn’t forgotten Hugo and that makes Michelle feel that she is betraying Soledad. Soledad says that isn’t so because between her and Hugo there’s nothing. Hugo is a free man. “And you?” asks Michelle, “do you really think that you have removed Hugo from your heart?” “I won’t lie to you,” says Soledad, “Sometimes I remember all the happy times we had in the past but that’s over. He’s happy with you and that’s enough.” Ursula comes in with Aurora. She won’t stop crying. She’s not hungry. What could be the problem? Another catalepsy attack on the way? Send for Dr. Dan!

Dr. Dan is in the lab trying to figure out how to cure Aurora but he’s distracted by memories of kissing Soledad.

Alcides says that Dr. Dan’s luck has run out. Eloisa asks what he is going to do. “If there is a fallen tree in your path,” says Alcides, “you remove it any way you can.” Eloisa can’t believe it. Alcides is going to kill Dr. Dan.

Arturo demand a response from Hercu-less about why he was in Alcides’ house. Herc comes to the brilliant conclusion that if tells Arturo that he is working for Alcides, Arturo will kill him. Herc says that he is having an affair with Marina and she works at Alicides house. He asks Arturo not to tell Margot. Arturo says that Herc thinks he’s a stud (semental). Margot can’t satisfy him. Arturo doesn’t care about that. He has a plan to kill Alcides and since Herc can get in and out of the Hacienda, he can help with it.

In the Hacienda, Alcides tell Marina to get out of his way. She wonders where he is going.

The smiths are busy at the forge. Hugo is pounding away with a hammer and flashes back to making love with Michelle and seeing Soledad’s face. Then he flashes back to making love to Soledad. Boris asks if Hugo is ok. Hugo says that he can’t get certain thought out of his mind. He goes back to pounding.

Aurora is still crying and she’s cold. Soledad and Michelle will take her to Dr. Dan’s. Ursula is concerned. These are the same symptoms she had the last time she had a catalepsy attack.

At Arturo’s house, Herc notices that Arturo has lost a glove. Gladis isn’t home so they can talk freely about things she doesn’t like, such as killing people. Hercu-less asks Arturo what his plan is. His plan is to kill Alcides. He wants to have Alcides on his knees begging for mercy today. Arturo isn’t going to do this alone, Herc is going to help him. Arturo tells Herc the plan but we can’t hear it.

Alcides comes into the lab where Dr. Dan is working. Dr. Dan isn’t sure if it is Hugo or Alcides. Alcides says scornfully that Dr. Dan still can’t tell him from his brother, Hugo. Dr. Dan says that he can tell the difference but he was concentrating on his work. He asks what Alcides wants. Alcides says that in the past, he offered Dr. Dan a lot of money to find a cure for the disease that his niece and brother suffer. Dr. Dan refused that money. Alcides says that he doesn’t beg. Dr. Dan perceives a threat in Alcides’ words. Alcides says that Dr. Dan is correct. They have a score to settle. Moves are made towards each man’s gun but before we have the gunfight at the laboratory, Soledad comes in with the baby. Dr. Dan examines her and confirms that she is on the point of having an attack of catalepsy.

Ursula comes into the smithy. Boris wants to talk about Marina but Ursula says that she is there to see Hugo. She tells him the baby is sick and might be having a catalepsy attack. Hugo takes off his apron and runs out. Boris tries to calm Ursula down.

The poor baby is crying. Alcides asks Dr. Dan to do something to help her. Dr. Dan says that the baby shouldn’t get upset and asks Alcides to leave. Alcides flashes back to seeing Soledad kissing Dr. Dan. Michelle observes Alcides and says to herself that there is a lot of hate in his eyes when he looks at Dr. Dan. Alcides must have found out that Dr. Dan proposed to Soledad. Alcides leaves.

Eloisa comes into the taverna where Paquito is still auditioning dancing girls. He tells the three girls that they are hired. He introduces them to Eloisa as Ruby, Topaz and Emerald. Eloisa is not interested in this frivolity. She says that something terrible is going to happen today. Paquito asks what she is talking about.

Hercu-less goes home to get his gun (why doesn’t he wear it all the time like everyone else in San Marino?) He says that he has to tell Alcides that Arturo is going to try and kill him. Margot comes in. She tells Herc to be careful and then Herc sees Arturo’s glove on the floor. He flashes back to noticing that Arturo had lost a glove. He asks Margot what Arturo was doing in his house.

Arturo is outside the Hacienda impatiently waiting for Hercu-less. He accosts Marina. Marina says that Alcides isn’t home and Arturo should leave before there is any trouble. Arturo tells Marina not to act like the perfect servant. He knows that she is sleeping with Herc. Marina says that she doesn’t know what he talking about. She hasn’t had any contact with Herc in a long time. She doesn’t even speak to him when he comes to see Alcides (uh oh!).

Aurora is still crying. Dr. Dan says that they have to calm her down. Fear is the worst enemy of a patient with catalepsy. Soledad is trying to talk to the baby but has no success. In comes Hugo. He holds the baby, talks to her and miracle of miracles, she stops crying and smiles at Hugo. Dr. Dan is amazed. Her temperature is normal. Hugo has saved the baby!! Dr. Dan says that the baby recognized her father’s voice. Hugo asks Soledad if she noticed that the baby isn’t pale any more. Soledad keeps asking if the baby is ok, does she need to go to the thermal chamber? Hugo reassures her that he knows the symptoms of catalepsy and the baby is fine now. Soledad thanks him for coming. He saved her daughter, their daughter. Hugo is giving Soledad a look of such love that Dr. Dan and Michelle are rethinking their chances of success in love.

Arturo asks if Marina is saying that Hercu-less is doing business with Alcides. Marina plays dumb and says that Arturo should ask Alcides about that. Arturo flashes back to Herc telling him that he was having an affair with Marina. Arturo tells Marina that he wants the truth: is she or is she not having an affair with Herc?

Meanwhile Herc is confronting Margot about Arturo being in the house. Has she been unfaithful to him? Margot says that Arturo has been coming to the house but not for the reason Herc thinks. Margot has been treating his scar (cicatriz). Herc asks why she didn’t tell him about it and Margot says that she was afraid of his jealousy, that he would do something crazy. Margot goes on to say that Herc’s boss is impotent. He wants to make love to her but he can’t.

Paquito is totally obsessed by the preparations for the opening of his bar and and whether he should call the dancers ‘Paquito’s girls’ (‘las chicas de Paquito’) or ‘Paquitas’ and isn’t interested in Eloisa spoiling his day with news about terrible things that are going to happen. She leaves.

At the lab, Michelle and Dr. Dan are on the outside looking in. Michelle suggest that Dr. Dan should examine the baby but he say he’s already done so and Aurora should be with her father. While Hugo makes faces at the baby, Soledad flashes back to when Hugo saved the baby the first time she had an attack by using the thermal chamber. Michelle flashes back to having sex with Hugo. Dr. Dan flashes back to Soledad thanking him for being there. Hugo flashes back to Soledad telling him that he is dead in her heart. Soledad says, “Hugo, in spite of everything that has happened between us, we have our daughter and she is more important than everything. Because of that, I authorize you to visit her at the house whenever you want.” Hugo smiles and says to the baby, “Did you hear, did you hear the good news?”

Arturo is choking Marina to get her to answer why Hercu-less comes to Alcides’ house. Marina knees him and runs away. Arturo starts to go after her when Alcides strolls up and asks what Arturo is doing at his house.

Margot says that Hercu-less has to believe her. She has been taking care of Arturo because she feels pity (le tengo lástima) for him. He lost a hand and now he’s going crazy. Herc says that he never should have taken her out of the tavern because she’s just a.. Margot slaps him and says that she won’t let him call her that. He knows perfectly well that she left behind her past, her job in the tavern for what she felt with him – love. It’s true that Herc didn’t find her in a palace and she’s not a princess but he knew what she was and what she did and she isn’t going to let him call her that.

Hugo thanks Soledad for letting him see his daughter. He missed her terribly. Soledad says that she is doing it for her daughter, nothing more. Hugo says that he knows. Hugo kisses the baby, “Well, our daughter is fine. I think it’s time for me to say goodbye.” (He calls the baby, muñeca, a doll). Dr. Dan takes the baby to check her vital signs once more before Soledad takes her back to the house. Hugo looks at Michelle, “I was working when Ursula came and told me the baby was sick. I ran out of there.” Michelle says that Hugo is a good father. Soledad says that it was good that Ursula let him know. Thanks to that her daughter was saved. Really, she was saved thanks to Hugo. “How are you?” asks Hugo, “I haven’t seen you for quite a while.”
S: Yes, three months already. I imagine you know about our bad financial condition. The economic situation in my house is very difficult.
H: I can imagine. It hasn’t been easy for me either but we have to move forward.
(Michelle turns and leaves)
How is Lucas?
S: Good, better. At least he is walking, With a cane but he’s walking.
H: That’s great. And Ester, how is your mother?
S: She’s working a lot. She has a lot of sewing projects. Really, in my house, everyone is doing something to help now that my father can’t work.

Dr. Dan interrupts asking for Michelle and Hugo has the grace to look abashed.

Michelle says to herself, “The way they looked at each other. Hugo hasn’t stopped loving Soledad and she loves him. How could I have gotten my hopes up with Hugo? How? For what?”

Alcides asks Marina what is going on here. Marina says that Arturo showed up like a crazy person and said that I am Hercu-less’ lover. Alcides tells her to leave. He will take care of the visitor. Alcides asks what Arturo is doing here. Arturo says that he has discovered that Herc has been making secret visits to this house. Herc’s explanation is that he is your servant’s lover but she says that is a lie. Alcides says that of course Marina would lie, she is a married woman. Arturo says that he doesn’t believe a word of that but Herc will have to tell him the truth. Alcides asks again why Arturo came to his house. He can’t imagine that the love lives of their servants interests him. Arturo says that for his own good, he hopes that Alcides hasn’t bribed Hercu-less. He would be making a very bad deal. He leaves. Alcides says that he hopes Herc knows how to treat this animal.

Hugo and Soledad:

H: Well, now I think I’m really going.
S: You can come to the house to see the baby whenever you want.
H: I don’t want to create problems with your parents, Soledad.
S: I’ll speak to them, Hugo.
H: Ok, I’ll give a kiss to my daughter. Goodbye, my love (amor mío), goodbye.
Is everything ok, doctor?
DD: Yes, her vital signs are stable.
H: (to Aurora) I love you. Don’t forget it. I love you. Soledad, thanks again.
S: Thank you for saving my baby, Hugo.
H: No, thank you for letting me see my daughter (You’re milking it, Hugo).
In spite of all that I did to you and all that happened to your father because of me, I don’t deserve your friendship. Thanks for letting me see my daughter. (He touches her cheek and leaves with one backward glance.)

Soledad is crying. Dr. Dan tries to comfort her but he knows that she is crying for Hugo, not for her baby. The credits roll.

Tomorrow: the doomed love affairs proceed.

Guapos Thursday, May 29, 2008: Luci coughs up a hairball

I see we’re back to the full title sequences, so I guess that now the episodes aren’t as morose we can go back to the comedic lead-in.

The padre is telling Connie that Connie won’t tell his daughter she’s his daughter, and won’t tell his son he’s not his son. And now here he is with that ring on his finger, shooting for political office and guess what he’s likely to get busted. The padre keeps telling him off and Connie tells him that he’ll keep sending donations, but don’t come around any more. The padre says the kids have a right to know, but Connie says Al’s dad is dead. Isn’t, says the padre. Is, says Connie. He died before my very eyes; he was a nutcase which is why it’s better Alex doesn’t know.

That’s not why you’re not telling, says the padre. It’s cowardice, egotism – the same reasons you’re not telling Mili the truth, which you should do as a good Catholic. Cut the criticism, says Connie and look at it in a more positive light. Since my mother adopted Mili, she’s part of the family and everything’s fine. You’re a helluva politician says the padre, but the truth is always the right thing, it sooths the conscience, though I’m doubting you even have one.

Mili, the gal pals and Socorro come into the kitchen, home from the Rodeo. The younguns comment on how happy Socorro looked with Horacio and she glows. She heads off to bed. Gloria tells Mili about how moving her song with Alex was, like in a movie. Mili looks sad and says she’s going to bed and leaves. The gal pals wonder what’s going on with her and have no idea how they can help.

Over at the tire shop, Morgan and Vale are buttoning up, having apparently bounced off all that rubber for a while. She says these moments are the happiest of her life and she’ll never forget them. The exchange sweet nothings and sweet kisses. Vale decides she’s going to get going on her career so they can marry and be together. She’s going to hit the modeling agencies tomorrow, headshots in hand.

Morgan says but I want to show your daddy I can do it alone. Vale says hey it’s the 21st century and women hold up half the sky, remember? Morgan is as surprised as we are to hear her talk that way. Since when do you feel that way? he asks. Since right now, she says, plus I read it in this really hot and happenin’ European mag.

Little Gamuza tells Gloria and Mili that he’s going to have to skip school due to no money, and Gloria says she doesn’t have any, but maybe Ms. Mili Gotrocks can help out. Mili says they say I’m rich but actually I don’t have a penny in my pocket, so let’s get money the way we always have – working! She has her button-covered thinking cap on and says she’s has an idea.

Andrea comes into Alex’s office where he is packing up his desk. She looks sad and asks him how he’s feeling. He says sarcastically thanks to my ma, great. What she did stunk, says Andrea – and how are things with your father? Rotten as usual, says Alex. Andrea says I don’t know why he treats you that way and Alex says I do, because I treat him the same. No, says Andrea, you are just responding to his attitude – sometimes it seems like he’s not your actual father. Alex says I wonder sometimes myself, but there’s no doubt I’m Luciana’s child. Andrea hopes all will go well for him and his marriage.

Hugo comes in and says great, you’re packing! Thank you for moving out of my office so quickly. He opens the door for Alex and hurries him out, adding Alex’s diploma to the boxes Alex is carrying. He sits down happily and he and Andrea gloat over being co-workers.

At the tire shop, Horacio and Morgan are telling Chamuco what his duties will be, namely greeting the customers, offering them coffee, keeping things clean and in between finding new clients. Chamuco wants to know what his pay will be and the other two say pay? Umm… we’ll start out with you on probation then we’ll decide. Chamuco says like how long and they say like maybe 2-3 years? Chamuco says then how will I make enough to get married?

Mili and Gamuza show up at the tire shop. The three guys ask about their girlfriends back at Casa Belmonte. Mili says Socorro is all aglow, Gloria would have come but had to work, and ohhhh, I’m betting Vale is one happy girl. Everybody razzes Morgan. Mili says she and Gamuza will help out today but they need to get a little cut of the days’ profit. Horacio notes they haven’t had one customer. Mili says she’ll find some.

Alex and Bobby are playing tennis and Alex is really whomping that ball. Wow, says Bobby, you could win the cup for Mexico. Alex says at least that way I’d win at something. Bobby says not a swift idea to quit off the family company, but Alex says you know my reasons. I don’t want to be my father’s slave. Bobby says next you’ll be Flo’s father’s slave. You know he’s not going to give you any power. Alex says I’m going to be…(he realizes how lame it sounds) the head of the Venezuelan branch.

Bobby says he’ll really miss Alex, but he says it’s best, so Alex will forget Mili. Why is that good? asks Alex. It’s obvious you two just aren’t happening, says Bobby. But when I see her, says Alex, I see the love in her eyes. I just don’t get what’s going on! Bobby advises him to get her out of his mind, his heart, but Alex says it’s impossible.

Uh oh, this is worse than the egg/windshield strategy. Mili and Gamuza are placing in the street a lot of nail-studded blocks, pointy side up. Gamuza is doubtful but Mili says who’ll see us? The abuela, says Gamuza. Our two-person crimewave waits and waits but no car comes, so Mili thinks up something else. She asks Gamuza if he can fake fainting.

At a busy intersection, Mili struts into the sidewalk and Gamuza, walking with her, suddenly fakes a faint right in front of an oncoming car. The driver, a man, gets out and wants to take Gamuza to the hospital, but Mili says call an ambulance, and the man says why? Mili says just drive around the boy, he’ll come to – go down that street. She and Gamuza watch the car drive down the nail-studded street annnnd… yeehaw! Success! They return to the intersection and repeat.

The guys at the tire shop are talking to the hard-of-hearing ex-owner and having some comedic misunderstandings. Here comes their first customer (the Good Samaritan from the intersection) and they spring into action. Let’s hope they know how to repair a tire. Careful with my mags, says the car owner. A rush of customers is descending, and Chamuco rushes to serve them coffee.

Karla comes into Connie’s office and mentions the bonus he promised for her and her mama. Connie says only if you find the watch, which you haven’t done yet. Voilá says Karla pulling it from her bosom. Ooooh, says Connie, where was it? In one of Luci’s purses, Karla lies – Luci probably had big plans for it. Oh yeah, says Connie, she’d try to ruin me. You get your money, Karla. Karla asks him to pretend like he doesn’t know anything, not to mention the raise to Luci, she might suspect. You got it, says Connie, but I will have to tell Braulio since he’s in charge of such things, oh, and Karla, what about those photos you were going to try to find? Karla says no luck yet, but don’t forget there’s a reward for those too.

Karla goes up and repeats the above scene with Luci, telling her she found the ring in Connie’s things and that it’s best not to mention anything. Luci is worried that Connie will talk to Nestor but Karla observes that no man wants to fess up to being a cuckold.

We’re at the tire shop, and I’m thinking Karla’s ethics are sterling compared to Mili and crew’s. They are exultant over their stack of bills and they want Mili to continue the next day. I couldn’t figure out if she and Gamuza said yes, but I do know she’s contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

I guess they did decide to keep it up, because there they are setting out their nail blocks when what do we see but a pair of uniformed legs next to them. They say the police in Mexico are corrupt, but there’s no doubt it’s our convent girl who’s in the wrong this time. Mili and Gamuza try to make a run for it, but are blocked by a police car driving up.
They try to fake that they were cleaning up blocks some bad person set out.

At the police station, Mili is trying to charm the officer to let them go, and when he says no, she says at least let the kid go, it’s not his fault. Gamuza says but I’m the one who hammered the nails into the blocks. Let me do the talking, says Mili. She tries her chin-up, defiant act on the policeman – she asserts her right to call her lawyer.

Mateo is talking to his friend who says Mat is just after Mili’s money. Mat says money helps, but ever since I saw her at the Rodeo, I was captivated. Don’t you think I could really fall in love with her? Har! says the friend. Mateo says you wound me. After I first saw her, I was searching for her. Yeah, I want the inheritance, but I’m starting to fall for her. The phone rings. Can Mateo come pick her up from the police station?

Gloria is whacking at a poor straggly bougainvillea with some huge hedge clippers, while her mama is trying to talk to her and wants to know what she can do to help Gloria. Gloria says you can start by explaining why you told Romulo that I’m his daughter. The mama says because it’s true, but it’s not my fault that you found out, I was talking to Padre Manuel and Gamuza overheard.

It’s my life says Gloria, I don’t like you blabbing my stuff around. Her mama says but you are my daughter, and she strokes Gloria’s face. Gloria softens and apologizes. Gloria says it’s weird to be an orphan and suddenly have a whole family and what’s next, and uncle? Maybe smiles her ma, and they hug happily.

Luci is having a big swig of the foyer booze and then hides her glass in the flower arrangement. Vale is coming in and Luci asks her where she was all day. Vale says she was hitting the ad agencies. That’s great says Luci, but Vale says don’t try to pretend you’re my friend, because you aren’t after what you did. I don’t want anything to do with you. Vale ascends the stairs.

Luci gets her glass back out of the flower arrangement but whoops has to put it right back because Alex is storming in. He starts up the stairs but Luci pleads don’t ignore me. You’re not going to freeze me for a stupid little goof-up? Alex says it wasn’t a little goof-up, you betrayed me and my sister. Luci says you’re starting a new life, you’re getting married, can’t you leave behind the anger?

Alex says I’m going far away because I want to get away from you and Hugo. But most of all from you because when I look at you I can’t believe I am your son. Luci is tearing up. Alex says I always wondered why my father hated me and I’ve been thinking maybe I’m adopted. Luci says you’re my son, I swear, I carried you in my belly. Alex says I know, too bad you didn’t carry me in your heart. You don’t love me, mama.

He runs upstairs. Luci slowly takes the glass from the flower arrangement and takes a long, deep swig.

We’re in Regina’s old bedroom that is now Mili’s. Mat has sprung Mili and she is glad to be free, she was afraid she’d end up in jail. Not for something that small, he says. She thanks him and he flirts with her. She reminds him that they’re just friends. He reminds her she told Alex that they were novios, but she says never mind that. He spots the big stuffed bear and she says another friend gave it to her. Mat says your boyfriend? and Mili says she doesn’t have one. Mat says okay, your friend here says goodbye and he crosses to give her a peck. She offers her cheek and he grabs her chin and steals a kiss. She waves her arms around and wouldn’t you know, in walks Alex. Am I interrupting?

Mili grabs Mat and pretends to be in an embrace with him. Yes! she says. Glares all around. Mili says you caught us in an intimate moment. So sorry says Alex coolly, that was not my intention. He leaves. Mili shoves Mat off and roughs him up and says what do you think you’re doing? He says you are the woman I’ve been searching for. Mili says kisses should not be stolen and she orders him out. He leaves, smiling.

Coming down the stairs, Mat encounters Alex in the landing. Alex tells him that Mili is just playing with him. Mat says he doesn’t want to get into a discussion with a person like him. Alex says Mili doesn’t, and never will have, anything with him. Really? says Mat. Her kisses sure tell me something else. Alex grabs Mat by the lapels, changes his mind, then leaves up the stairs. Luci has walked in. Mat bids her goodbye, but Luci says are you interested in Mili? Mat says I love her and I want to marry her. Her? says Luci, surprised. Okay, do it, marry her and get her as far away from here as possible.

Alex storms into Mili’s room where she is hugging her bear. He demands to know what’s up – first Hugo, now Mat, and she won’t give him the time of day. I can’t decide between the two she says – which do you recommend? Alex says I can’t stand seeing you kissing those guys when it used to be me you were kissing. Mili says oh, you were first and now you are claiming your territory? We have our lives, says Mili, and you are going to marry Flor, so leave me alone. That’s what you want? asks Alex. Mili opens the door to prove her point. Al kicks the bear and leaves; Mili sticks out her foot to trip him. She slams the door after him, then turns sad. Please pardon me, Alexandro, for what I just did. For having to break your heart.

Damien walks up to Andrea’s desk. She tells him that Hugo’s getting set up in his new office and is eager to be brought up to speed. Damien says great, and oh by the way, he has a proposition that could make a lot of money. (I’m not sure I have all this right, so please jump in with corrections) He says you know the utility bills that are paid by into a fake account owned by a fake company? Andrea says how do you know about that? I’ve been investigating says Damien. It’s a monetary paradise – lots of interest and only Connie knows how much. I’d like the name of the bank and the account number and you can get it for me.

Andrea says Connie wouldn’t tell me. Damien points out that she has her charms, but she says Connie’s not stupid. Damien says well then steal the numbers. Andrea is incensed: I’m not a common thief! Who are you kidding says Damien. Besides, you could end up with enough money to keep you the rest of your life if Connie dumps you. Look around in the computer. Damien leaves and Andrea contemplates his proposal.

Mat and his pal are in a pub and Mat is telling him that he kissed Mili. Whoo-hoo! Mat says he’s going to get Mili to fall for him, plus he has an ally in Luci. Sure says the pal, Mili was a servant and now she’s part of the family. Mat says now he has somebody on his team inside the house. The guys toast.

Luci in her bedroom is having a big swig. There’s a knock at the door and she ditches the bottle and quick grabs a breath mint. It’s Flor and Luci is delighted to see her. She tells Flor she’s really down about everything that’s happened with Alex and her. Flor says that’s what she came to talk about. She says that the bad move Luci pulled on Alex -she says we have to call it a bad move, no? … Luci tries to break in. Flor says I’m not reproaching you, you must’ve had powerful reasons for doing what you did. But he’s very upset and I don’t want to marry with a man in that state of mind. What can you do to mend fences? Luci says I don’t know. Flor says maybe I can help if you tell me why you did it. Luci says to save him.

In the girls’ dorm Mili tells Lina and Gloria that Mat kissed her by force. They say wow, you are a galan magnet. They bet she smacked him. No, she said Alex came in. The girls are a-twitter. They bet she loved seeing him jealous. Mili says n..n..no. Well, a little.

Back to Luci and Flor. Flor says she doesn’t get it. Luci says it’s my secret. Sometimes I think I’ll explode if I don’t tell someone. Flor pats her knee encouragingly. Luci says I gave Hugo the shares so Damien wouldn’t tell Alex the truth. What truth? asks Flor. Luci says Alex isn’t Constancio’s son. Flor is impactada at the news and I am impactada that not only did Luci tell, she told a near stranger and someone who is sure to blab.

At the office, Connie is messing around in his wall safe and Andrea has entered quietly and is watching him with her cat-eye look. He sees her and is startled. She says she just came in for a little kiss. He wants to finish up in the safe, but she distracts him by asking about the watch (got it!) and the photos (haven’t gotten them yet!) oh and isn’t he due for that big political meeting? His brain jumps gears and he heads for his briefcase on his desk. Smooches and he’s gone. Andrea heads for the open safe. Outside at the elevator, Connie waves off Damien and heads off.

Damien goes into Connie’s office where Andrea is just closing the safe and has an envelope in her hand. Damien says you’re fast – gimme. Andrea says in your dreams. And oh goody! Connie walks back in and wants to know what they’re doing in his office.

Avances: Mili asks Connie to help her find her father. A montage of a lot of scenes, a fistfight, secrets, tears, impactada gente, and my personal favorite which was Padre Manuel wearing a T-shirt that says GO GO. Should that be GO GOD? Lots of action, looks like. Stay tuned.

I Love Juan, Thurs 5/29 - An unholy alliance is formed

Ahoy all,
We do the best we can but we don't always get it right. Corrections and suggestions are very welcome.

We begin with a repeat of Willy and Ana's kiss (boring) and Juan popping off on Papa Paris for trying to deny Hillary her freedom in life and in love. Papa Plutarco Paris is muy, pero muy impactado. Juan thinks he looks like he's got something stuck in his gullet.

Willy and Ana pretty much do a tourism commercial for British Columbia. We see a plane overhead signifying they are headed back to Mexico. Guess the BC sleuthing theory is a bust.

Willy drops Ana off at home and Ana tells Paula that she is engaged. Paula is stunningly beautiful when she smiles, a rare treat.

Juan takes Juanito and Flor out for an ice cream treat and thought bubbles that he really pinched the monkey's tail with Plutarco Paris. He looks at the kiddies and thinks how nice it is when love is requited.

Ana apologizes to Paula for not telling her sooner how she felt about Willy. Paula is all "you're kidding right? I knew even before you did, I'm your daughter and your best friend." They admire Ana's ring.

Juan goes to Farell and tells himself he's going to distance himself from Paula by accepting "Sandro's" offer. He boldly strides into the office, then decides to put on the brakes so he doesn't appear too eager. He thought bubbles that deep down inside he still wasn't sure he wanted to separate himself from his Palomita forever. Way to make up your mind Juan.

S2 (fake Sandro) tells Laura that since they are both new at Farell they should form an alliance. He asks for a complete list of all personnel including salaries and everything else, but he needs her to do this without Pastor's knowledge. The wardrobe assassin/HR clerk from hell immediately agrees but wants to know why. S2 replies it's because he needs to drastically cut costs and he's going to fire a lot of people.

Laura pretty much only cares about her position. S2 assures her that she's safe, they are a team, right? He adds that the VP of Personnel (Pastor) is on the list and wouldn't Laura love to have his position? "Hell yeah" she grins, baring her fangs like a hungry hyena.

Ivonne asks Marely if she remembers the name of the agent that came to tell Paula about CL's death. She makes up some lame excuse and asks Marely to find the name and number.

A group of people are outside "Sandro's" office. They go in one by one and each comes out weeping or angry.

Pastor is the next to be dressed down. S2 tells him that based on his past indiscretions, i.e. the embezzling and pirated software, Pastor should be the first to lose his job. Pastor reminds him that CL gave him another chance and he begs for the opportunity to prove himself. S2 grudgingly agrees but points out that Pastor will be on probation and will most likely lose his job.

It's Fer's turn to be run over. S2 insults Fer regarding his journey from chauffeur to applying for the VP job. S2 says bottom line, Fer's salary is not appropriate to his current job, he makes too much. "Are you going to fire me?" asks Fer. S2 prefers to rephrase it, based on his evaluation of the staff, at this time the staff is not aligned with the commercial interests of the company.

Ivonne is next on the gurney. In short, S2 tells her it was inappropriate of someone in her position to take such a long vacation. She reminds him it was a personal leave, she had a sore throat operation. S2 accuses her of lying and hanging out on the beach. Ivonne becomes indignant, Paula and Pastor visited her in the hospital! S2 says a doctor's excuse is missing from her file and it's likely her services will no longer be needed.

Marely is up to bat. S2 starts in on his spiel but Marely cuts him short. She tells him to stuff it because she's leaving that very day! He watches her retreating backside with a new look, a touch of respect perhaps? Nah, it's probably pure lechery.

Heri is the next calf to be slaughtered. He tells S2 that he's not done learning the business skills he needs to take back to the ranch. S2 doesn't want to hear Heri's life story. Fine, says Heri, let's not waste our breath like pulque in the cantina. He says he's not an employee but rather a partner. S2 laughs and points out that Heri's daddy's money accounts for less than a half percent of the company and Heri can get out right now. Poor Heriberto, for the first time he is mute.

Yadi and Angarita are in her apartment. She begs him to go back to work. He doesn't want the market to turn into a war zone. She promises to keep her lip zipped and he stupidly agrees. God help him she can come back to work.

Heri goes to Pastor's office to complain about being fired. How will he pay for all his new clothes? Worse still, he was on the verge of having Ivonne, the light of his eyes, in his arms! Pastor vows that neither Paula nor Juan will allow such an injustice.

At the playground, I mean the marketplace Anga and Yadi go over some paperwork together. Kike sees Anga's arm around Yadi's waist and coughs to get their attention. They barely notice.

Ivonne and Fer commiserate about "Sandro's" threatening behavior. How could he do these things without consulting the bosses?

Kike uses the phone on Yadi's desk to make a romantic phone call. He gets all sweetie pie and blows kisses to his mystery novia while Yadi fumes. When she snipes at him he says it's no worse than what she and Anga are doing. Anga tries to reason with him, no more arguments please. Kike blurts out that he needs the job but soon he'll fly far away.

Fer tells a shocked Paula what "Sandro" has been up to and that he seemed very well prepared with salary and performance information. Paula can't believe he would do such a thing. Fer tells her that the guy already fired half the world, she has to do something!

Kike and Juan are big rig shopping and looking at a bright yellow truck the same color as Juan's shirt. Kike is worried, will Juan really be able to afford one of these bright new trucks? Juan assures him, since when has Juan Dominguez had a problem with money? (I am always suspicious when people answer a question with a question.) Juan spies a white truck, he polishes and kisses this Palomito Blanco. He tries out the drivers seat and imagines a smiling Paula, then Marely, then Hillary sitting beside him. Back to reality, it's actually Kike bouncing up and down on the seat next to him. Juan gleefully honks the horn.

Laura leans over S2's desk displaying her feminine attributes. She reports that the secretaries are in tears and everyone is talking about his threats. Must he resort to such drastic measures? He coldly tells her it's the only way to save the business. She stares at him oddly and says he sounds just like CL. When he offers her is unconditional frienship she smiles diabolically.

Juan and Kike go to the taco stand where Juan tells his buddy all about his altercation with Papa Paris. He really told that snobby millionaire off! Juan mimics Papa Paris, "You are not allowed to see that Juan Dominguez!" Kike asks Juan will he stop seeing Hillary? Juan's only answer is to tell Kike to eat his tacos.

Paula goes off on "Sandro" for not respecting people and not treating them as they deserve to be treated. (Interesting, coming from her.) She won't allow all those people to lose their jobs! He says he hates it too but hard decisions must be made to save the company. He's objectively evaluating staff (only the people aligned with Juan we notice) and she has to have confidence in him.

The Lizards have gathered outside the office awaiting Paula's word. Paula assures them that Sandro is merely evaluating the situation, nothing more, she'll find a solution. Pastor leads the battle cry, "He's going to sack us all!"

Marely finds Ivonne crying in the bathroom. Ivonne doesn't know what she'll do if she gets fired and loses her medical benefits. Marely is sure that Paula will never let that happen.

Juan and Kike return to the hellmouth, aka Farell. Kike flirts with Julia who seems to have forgotten about the sackings.

Fer tells Juan what the imbecile "Sandro" did. Juan is muy impactado...QUE??? Fer says that he, Pastor and Heri are all going to the chopping block. Paula gave them some lip service, she talked to "Sandro" but then came out with her tail between her feet. She said things but she promised nada. Juan vows that the people of Juan Dominguez of Achichipico are untouchable!

Marely complains to Paula about "Sandro", worst of all she found Ivonne crying. Paula clucks indignantly.

Pastor tells Juan that "Sandro" blacklisted him, he was treated worse than the soles on "Sandro's" shoes. Juan thought bubbles furiously that he's got to stop this guy right now!

Juan goes to Paula's office and launches into an impressively long tirade about the new VP's antics. Paula tries to get a word in but with each breath Juan blusters with renewed vigor. He works himself into a frenzy and finally stands up to leave. Paula blurts out "Can I speak?" Juan shouts, "No you cannot!" Paula insists, she tells him he's right. He looks shocked. She repeats, yes he's completely right and they can't allow Sandro to do these things. Juan tells her she's created a monster.

Juan and Paula confront "Sandro". He insists to Juan that they have to cut staff by at least 30% if the company is to survive, otherwise they will all lose their jobs, all of them! Juan is impactado.

Marely whispers to Fer that "Sandro" told Paula he wants to fire Ivonne. (There is a serious lack of confidentiality in this company.) Fer comments that once again Ivonne has stumbled. We see Ivonne in the background as Fer explains himself...he saw Ivonne leave work and go to "Sandro's" apartment. What she did with CL she is now repeating with his twin. Marely is impactada. Fer stalks off as Marely stares uncomfortably at Ivonne.

Juan instructs "Sandro" that firing people is too easy a solution. He insists that a company's greatest value is its human capital. S2 replies that they can't ignore concrete measurements (medidas concretas). Juan is confused, measurements in chalk? (medidas con cretas) Juan pretends to understand as S2 continues...you know, concrete measurements, i.e. practical solutions, just how does Juan suggest utilizing this great human capital? Uh oh, Juan thought bubbles, now he has to make something up on the fly.

Juan says they should employ the concept of Productividad en Lineas Cruzadas (Crossed Line Productivity, Juan crosses his arms to demonstrate), aka PLC, just like they do in China. S2 is skeptical, he's never heard of it. Oh yes, Juan continues, he read about it in a magazine article, it's a new concept used in emerging economics to avoid massive layoffs. Paula agrees with Juan that they should try PLC before firing anyone from Farell. She and Juan nod in agreement. S2 squints his eyes and looks like wants a cigarette and a drink, and any similarity to real life is purely coincidental.

Tomorrow: Juan tries to kiss Marely? Dude, give the poor girl a break! Paula weeps.

Fuego, Thursday 5/29 (#23): The Haystack Inspections Resume

On hearing that Grandpa got put in a home, Sofia says "then I'm leaving this house too." Gabriela complains that she's so much like Bernardo. "You're always against me, and you hurt me as if I were not your mother, as if I hadn't given birth to you." (Hmmm, a comment like that could re-fuel the babyswap debate.)

Sofi says she owes Gabi her life, but she's unfair. Gabi replies, "You renounce me? Well then I renounce you." (Wicked mature, Gabi!) She threatens that if Sofi leaves, she'd better not come back. "I dare you!" (Shouldn't she be swooning or having a fake stroke or something?)

As Gabi smugly ascends the stairs, Sofia coolly opens both doors and walks out, leaving the doors wide open. Gabi hears this and freezes halfway up the stairs. For once, that "I'm the boss of everyone" look on her face is gone. She goes to the doors and closes them. "From this moment on, you're dead to me!"

Sofia finds the brothers coming up the lane with their wheelbarrow. She begs Juan to take her away. He holds her and says they'll go far away where they can be happy, just the two of them. From a distance, evidently too far to hear, Oscar and Franco stare blankly.

The Uribe twits, who I don't hate so much any more, have taken Jimena and Sarita into town. They say they're looking for something to invest in. They're going to find out what kind of business would do well in the town, perhaps ask around in some place where lots of people gather. Jimena is eager to help and says she knows where. One of the brothers jokes that they're not taking her to church.

Their first stop: The sorry-looking Bad Love Bar. Sarita balks and wants to wait outside!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Eva asks Oscar and Franco if they saw where Juan took Sofia. All they know is that she was crying. Eva wrings her hands and hopes nothing bad happens. Oscar says Juan would give his life before letting something happen to her.

Juan and Sofia are now a little ways down the path and he's saying he can't go through with this because he respects her too much. He's worried about gossip and such. But he gets an idea - they'll go to Fr. Tadeo. Sofia likes this idea - he'll help them and advise them.

Sarita is still whining as Jimena drags her into the cantina; she's afraid their mother will punish her the way she punished Jimena. Jimena suggests that they not tell their mother about it. The look on Sarita's face is priceless as she glances around the rough-looking cantina.

One of the brothers (I'll remember which is which someday) asks the bartender if business is good. He gives a noncommittal answer and asks what they want. Jimena indicates that the mere sight of this stuff is nauseating her. Her date explains that she has a hangover. The bartender says there's nothing better for a hangover than a nice cold beer, so whichever twit orders four of them. Sarita crosses herself and protests, but they shove a bottle into her hand anyway.

Rosario and Ofelia cross through on their way out. The other bar patrons whistle and cheer. Rosario smiles graciously until she notices the Elizondo girls. Jimena starts toward her with a mean grin on her face; Sarita hauls her back and Ofelia nudges Rosario along as well. Sarita glares at Rosario's back and takes a huge, defiant gulp of her beer; it foams up and overflows. (The foaming was obviously unscripted, because even though Sarita pretends to cry, you can see her trying hard not to laugh.)

Now outside, Ofelia asks Rosario what happened just now - she's always been so friendly to the clients. Rosario tells her they're Fernando's sisters-in-law. She's got no problem with Sofia, but one of them - she's not sure which one - wants to take Franco away from her and he even serenaded her. Ofelia is speechless. Rosario wonders what they're doing there.

Juan, Sofia, and Juan's horse approach the church. (Drat, she should have taken Bernardo's horse.) She goes in alone.

Now the Elizondo sisters and Uribe brothers are outside the cantina. Evidently, they were able to get the bartender to talk, because one of the brothers says that the bartender told him that this is the ONLY fun spot in town, and it has only one entertainer, Rosario. Sarita says she's a terrible singer. Jimena disagrees and says Sarita's jealous of her. Embarrassed, Sarita wants her to be quiet and threatens to tattle to mommy about you-know-what (her little meetings with Oscar).

Sofia is telling Fr. Tadeo that she's left home. He is impactado. She says she had no choice and confirms that it's for sure that her mother had Grandpa institutionalized. The padre says the ways of God are mysterious but effective. He muses, half to himself, that God put Grandpa in the asylum to get Sofia to leave the house so that she'd be... so that she'd be safe, he finishes nervously.

Sofia wants to know, safe from whom? He says they'll talk more about it some other time, but for now he'll get her into a convent and go see her mother.

A nun is wheeling Grandpa into the common room at the San Jose Home for Eccentric Grandpas, encouraging him to make friends with the other eccentric grandparents. She says she's Sor (Sister) Martita. Grandpa jokes that she's Zorra Tita ("Little fox/vixen"??) or possibly Sor Ratita (Sr. Mouse). (The captions say the latter, but it sounded more like "zorra" to me.) She laughs, as charmed by him as everyone else in the world is except for Crabi and Feonando.

He complains that he's bored; the place needs some music, wine, and girls. Some of the residents cheer approvingly. He says they're not old; they're just confused youngsters. And the nuns are too demure, that's why they don't know much about this stuff. "But we'll fix that," he promises. He doubts that he'll be staying here long, but he'll give the place some atmosphere. (Sr. Mouse and the eccentric grandparents all applaud happily.) He says they have to dance and play lots of music. "The third age has arrived!... and the fourth and the fifth... all ages!"

Quintina arrives with some bread, fresh from the oven. She says something about setting the oven on fire, I don't really get all of what she says. Grandpa goes through the bags, rejecting a cuerno, then finding a concha. He bites in and says it's not bad, but it could be better and he'll give her his recipe!

A nun welcomes Sofia to the convent. Since she's not one of the novices, she can come and go as she pleases, as long as she respects their rules. Sofia thanks her and the nun offers to share "what little we have." The padre says he'll talk to her at the church later, but he has to speak with Gabi first. Sofia asks him for a blessing.

Armando is at the hacienda with Feonando. He's humbly holding his hat in his lap like a polite little boy. Feo tells Gabi he took the liberty of inviting him to dinner. Gabi is charmed and says Feo's friends are always welcome there. Armando smarmily says he envies Feo, because not everyone is so lucky as to see such a lovely woman every day as Crabi. She beams.

Feo asks about Sofia. Crabi awkwardly tells him they'll talk about that later. She excuses herself. Armando gives Fernando a "mission accomplished" look. Feo just looks uncomfortable.

At the convent (which has a helpful sign out front that says "CONVENTO"), Sofi prays (for a long time) for protection and the strength to know what to do, because she just can't take any more.

Jimena, Sarita, Benito and Octavio are at home now. Feo introduces himself (his last name is Escandón, in case you were wondering... he doesn't mention his mother's name, HMMMMMM...). Octavio says he and Benito have lived around here since they were kids, but have never met him. Feo says he has had to work ever since he was small. Benito says there's no shame in that. Crabi cuts in and says Feo's family had problems and lost their fortune, but he's always been able to do well thanks to his strength and his business skills.

Octavio says he and his brother want to start a business in town, maybe something recreational. He asks the older men if they happen to know who owns the cantina. Feo gives Armando a dark looks; Armando gulps his tequila in a hurry.

Eva saves the moment by announcing dinner. Feo says he hasn't seen Sofia yet. Sarita says Grandpa is missing too. Jimena asks where he is. "We'll talk later," Crabi says. But Jimena wants to know now about Grandpa, and Feo wants to know now about Sofia, so Crabi drops the bomb: Sofia has left home.

Juan and his horse are galloping through a field when they encounter a little boy. "Is it you?" the boy asks. "What if I am? And who am I?" The boy says he looks like... he can't remember who at first, then asks if he's Juan Reyes. The boy says he's Pablito Perez. He's got a letter for Juan from a fancy lady at the convent. Juan is happy to get the letter and says that from now on, he and the boy will be great friends. He notes that the boy is skinny, and offers him bread from bakery any time he needs it. The boy also wants bread for his puppy Mariachi. (So named because he's "musica" except there's a pun there that I don't get.)

Juan reads the letter from Sofia. She says she feels calm and safe, and explains about the plans for Tadeo to see Gabi and speak with Sofia afterwards. She says the moment they've been waiting for has arrived; she's going to tell Tadeo about her love for Juan. She promises to follow Juan's example of bravery and honesty, and to defend their true love. She finishes, "I won't ask you to come with me to see the priest because I know you have your own matters to attend to, so tomorrow I'll send Pablito with another letter. Don't forget I love you. Sofia."

Juan asks his horse how they should reply. The horse has no suggestions, but Juan figures out that he can send a message back with Pablito. Brilliant! Woops - that was the horse's suggestion after all. Juan thanks Capricho ("Whim") for the idea.

At the hacienda, apparently Gabi has also explained that Grandpa is at the asylum. Father Tadeo arrives and tells Gabi, "I know everything. We have to talk." Feo immediately asks for Sofia. Tadeo says the only person he's going to talk to is Gabi. He ignores Feo's protests and leads Gabi to her study. The rest of the dinner guests look around awkwardly.

A moment later, Tadeo and Gabi are wrapping up their meeting. Nothing has been accomplished. Grandpa's not coming back, and Sofia can stay gone too. Tadeo angrily disapproves, calls her terrible and prideful, and accuses her of not protecting her family, but he can't force her, so he says he'll let her think about it. (Oh, I forgot, he can't tell her what he knows about the rape, dammit!) But he'll come back in the morning to talk some more. She kisses his hand. He looks as though he wants to scrub it with hot bleach.

Naturally, the first thing Feo asks Gabi is where Sofia is. She tells him about the convent.

The Robles-Reyes brothers are eating their dinner. Oscar and Franco want to know what's going on with Juan; they thought it was strange he didn't come back to the hacienda to work. Juan says he was making sure Sofia was okay.

He thinks about it for a second and decides to go to the convent so that he can see Fr. Tadeo with Sofia. Privately, Juan and Oscar agree that they don't like what Juan's doing. They're all going to have problems.

Feo is already badgering Sofia at the convent. She says she's not going back to the house unless Grandpa can come back too. Feo says that's not up to him, and besides, she's his wife and should be at his side. She says she's his spouse in name only and nothing more. "Don't make me lose my patience, because I could..." he threatens. She invites him to elaborate. He doesn't, but he does promise that she'll regret this. She says the only thing she regrets is having married him!

She tells him to leave and says she's going to the church to see Fr. Tadeo. He casually agrees to this, but says he'll be back later. He even apologizes for getting excited. As he leaves, he turns to give her a creepy look. He mentally gloats that she'll pay on this very night. Just in case we forgot, a rattlesnake sound effect reminds us that he's Snake Man.

Sofia wanders alone down a wooded lane to the church. A thunderstorm is starting. "Someone" is following her in an SUV. It swerves around, blocking her path. Two masked men with no hats grab her. She calls for help and flashes back to the rape, when "someone" put a drugged cloth over her nose and mouth to knock her out, and later she saw the snake tattoo.

It's pouring rain now. She's struggling with the two hatless men. A third masked person gets out of the car. He's wearing a sombrero, which he steadies with his left hand and punches her with his right hand. A fourth man is wearing a black cowboy hat and a green bandanna over his face.

Juan shows up on his horse and starts whipping people with his riding crop. He gets off his horse, and there's some mud-wrestling in which the bad guys conveniently attack him one at a time. Someone has a knife, but it doesn't present a problem. The sombrero person doesn't participate and only watches.

Sombrero Dude shoots Juan, and now I can see that he's probably Feo, not that this is a surprise. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to recognize him or not, and it seems odd that he'd even wear a disguise, since there's no mystery as to who's behind this attack. Interestingly, though Sombrero Dude punches with his right hand, he shoots with his left. A clue? Probably not.

Juan falls into the lake. Sofia runs to the edge to see. Sombrero Dude comes up behind her and knocks her into the lake too. He watches them struggle in the water and tells his men it's time to leave - there's nothing else to do. He takes off the bandanna and now I'm not 100% sure that he's Feo. He looked more like Feo when most of his face was covered up! Sorry, can anyone else tell? The guys all get in the truck.

Juan sees Sofi struggling in the water and drags her to the shore. It's still raining and thundering. He gives her some mouth-to-mouth, but she doesn't respond.

Fr. Tadeo wonders why Sofia hasn't arrived for their meeting yet, and prays for her safety. Juan's next breath revives Sofia. He mutters mushy things to her. His sleeve is soaked in blood.

Feo goes back to the hacienda in his regular clothes, dark brown or black cowboy hat, tan coat, all soaked. He tells Gabi he couldn't get Sofia to come back. Gabi whines what a shame it is that Sofia can't see that he's the man who loves her the most. Someday she'll be sorry she didn't love him. He agrees! He excuses himself, saying he doesn't feel well.

Quintina is scolding Oscar and Franco for letting Juan go out in the storm. Oscar suggests that they go find him, but she says Juan's big enough to go out by himself. Franco agrees and thinks they should stay home and have some coffee. Oscar suggests tequila and asks Q if she knows how to play "Liar." She says something about dice. (For some reason I always have trouble understanding her.) She says something about still owing them for burning their oven.

Juan carries Sofi into the barn, or whatever it is, that has lots of hay but no horses. He gathers up some straw and holds her for a while. She is shivering and not looking well. He builds a small fire using lamp oil and some other stuff he scavenges from around the room.

Back at the Reyes home, Oscar daydreams about Jimena's pleas for help when she was locked in her room. Quintina whistles to bring him back to reality - it's his turn to roll the dice. He says he's gotta go rescue his princess - she's locked up! Quintina reminds him that it's raining. ("Raining! Llueve!") Oscar says he's not going to let a little rain stop him.

Q tells Franco she's not being nosy or anything, but in her opinion Oscar's on a lover's errand. He agrees. Q rolls the dice and wins again. "I thought you didn't know how to play, Quintina!" She tells him it's just beginners' luck. She recites some rhyme about games and laughter being her Mass, and lunch and dinner being her novenas (special nine-day prayer campaigns). He says it's a good thing they weren't betting, or he'd lose his shorts. (No thank you!!)

Quintina likes this idea and thinks they should make a friendly wager. If she wins, he takes off his shirt and sings her all the songs she asks. She begins singing, and he whistles. She says he sounds like Pedro Infante. He sings for her. She is enchanted.

Sarita writes a letter to Franco. She says the pain of not having his love is worse than the storm that's whipping at the hacienda. The intensity of his memory is stronger than the lightning. She feels foolish for trying to make him jealous by flirting with Benito. She wanted to make Franco angry and scream that he loves her the way she loves him.

Sofia is still shivering like crazy, and now coughing too. He tries to cover her up with a bunch of small blankets. He starts removing her wet clothes.

Quintina has become gloomy. Franco tries to cheer her up and asks if she doesn't like his singing. She says he sings like an angel, but love songs bum her out because she's never been lucky at love. That's why she's lucky at games. ("Unlucky at love, lucky at cards.") Then she laughs and says it's not the end of the world. In bad times, you put on a good face. She downs a shot of tequila. He says it's never too late; maybe someone will steal her heart. ("Saltar" is really hard to translate; what he says is closer to "knock your heart's socks off." Sounds much better in Spanish, sí?) Never lose hope!

Now he's going to the cantina to see Rosario. Q tells him you only get one life, so take it easy. He leaves and she tells to a large decorative rooster that the Reyes are good roosters and they sing better than regular roosters, or somesuch.

Oscar rides up to the hacienda, ties his horse to a flimsy-looking shrub, takes a deep breath, and approaches.

At the cantina, Rosario sings Ave Maria. Kidding! It's the bonbon song! There's a drunk guy that Armando has to push away from the stage.

Rosario notices Franco. He gives her his usual horny smirk. Another guy hands Rosario a drink. She takes a sip. Franco scowls at this. She sees him scowling and gives him a dirty look.

Oscar is in Jimena's room. Gabi had locked the balcony door, but Oscar has a magic key that opens all doors. He presses his ear to her chest, to make sure she is in excellent health. Ah, kissing.

Fernando looks at a piece of paper (I don't know what this is), gloats that he warned her, and warmly remembers the night he raped her and she begged for mercy. He smirks at the memory, "you were mine, and nobody else's."

Rodrigo has his shirt off, Sofia is wrapped in dry blankets and still shivering and coughing. (It occurs to me just now that this could actually be the very same building where she was raped.) Juan snuggles up to her. He kisses her face all over and rubs her bare shoulders. I guess this restores her health. She becomes lucid and asks what happened. He says he felt her cry and came for her.

She's not at all upset to have him on top of her. He's grateful that she has recovered. They start doing some serious kissing, but his gunshot wound (which seems to have only grazed his arm? otherwise I don't think he'd be able to use it) hurts. She kisses it - a sophisticated medical treatment not covered by most insurance plans. He says it doesn't hurt any more, so she kisses it some more.

He asks if she loves/wants him. Oh Juan, what a question. She gives him an intense look and kisses him again, and again, and again.

They still have their blankets on, but there's definitely a haystack inspection, and they definitely find the needle.

Next time:
The machine didn't get this, but all I remember is seeing Feonando looking mad. That doesn't give us much to work with.

Pasión de Gavilanes - Thurs, May 29 - A Wedding to Die for

Talk about a wedding from Hell! I don't think I've ever seen a worse one: the ghastly bride; the rowdy guests/supermarket employees; the plot device ;-) .

The actor who plays Eduvina's doctor is Manrique on La Traición and one of the lawyers was the actor who played Dr. Pedro, also on LT.

A basically decent person like Franco would have to be suicidal to agree to marry Eduvina. He would have been setting himself up for such misery but fortunately it worked out.

Hugo the Blacksmith

The nurses of San Marino

Hugo and Alcides:
H: Alcides, you can’t have that woman in your house. She is a fugitive. Because of her I was almost hanged.
A: I know, brother, but I think she regrets blaming you for her accident. In fact, I can assure you that she is sorry for what she did. Don’t you think we should give her another chance?
H: I don’t believe a word you say.
A: Hugo, please, you’ve always been known as a man with a good heart. This is your opportunity to show it. Do you want this poor woman to spend the rest of her life in jail? Is that what you want? Or do you just want to get back at her?

Lucas tells Soledad that he will give her the money he is receiving back from the mine investment to use as she wishes. He knows it isn’t much but now that he can’t work… (He worked before?) Soledad says that she will take care of her family. She is going to look for a job today. Ester says that she can sew and Antonia wants to help too. (What a big, happy family.) Soledad says that everything will be fine.

Dr. Dan tells Michelle that now he can dedicate himself to finding a cure for catalepsy and save Soledad’s daughter. He also wants to help with Lucas’ therapy. Michelle says that will keep him close to Soledad. Whenever he mentions her, his eyes sparkle. Dr. Dan says that right now Soledad is wounded but he hopes in time that she will consider him. He says that Michelle can’t imagine how much he adores Soledad and her cute baby. Michelle says that she is happy for him. Dr. Dan asks Michelle how it goes with Hugo. She says she has mixed feelings, she is scared and embarrassed but she adores Hugo. She is about to tell Dr. Dan about seeing Hugo in the altogether the previous evening when the world’s hardest working judge appears. Dr. Max’s body has been found and the judge understands that Dr. Dan was the last person to see him alive.

Hugo and Alcides:
(Marina listens from hiding.)
A: Brother, what is happening to you? It’s up to you whether this woman spends the rest of her life in jail. Ok, don’t do it for her. Do it for me. I’ve done you some favors, right? I didn’t let them imprison you when you stole my identity. I defended you in the trial and paid off your debt to the investors so they’d leave you alone.
H: I knew your favors would cost me. Alcides, I didn’t ask you to do anything for me.
A: So you’re going to turn her in?
H: Never again will I hold a grudge. I learned a life lesson. That woman was in my service for years. I thought she was faithful and loyal and look what she did. You decide what to do with her. I’ll speak to the judge and have the charges dropped. But for the record, tell her that I’m not doing this for her, I’m doing it for Boris. It was he who saved my life and it’s he who is saving her life now. I don’t want Boris to suffer knowing that she’s in jail.
A: Thanks brother. Have a good day.
Alcides says to Marina, who is still hiding, that she owes him her life and he likes to be paid back with loyalty. He’s out of nuts. “Are you listening, Marina?” says Alcides.
(All during this scene, the bird that sounds like an Eastern Phoebe was singing in the background.)

Dr. Dan tells the judge that it is true. He probably was the last person to see Dr. Max. After the operation on Lucas, they said goodbye to one another. Dr. Dan assumed Dr. Max went home and he went to the hotel. Dr. Dan flashes back to Dr. Max going over the cliff. The judge says that there were no defensive wounds on Dr. Max’s body. The judge wanted Dr. Dan’s testimony to close the case. Michelle says, “In that case, there won’t be any further investigation? The judge says no. The authorities have concluded that Dr. Max killed Rebeca and then committed suicide by jumping off the cliff. No relatives of Dr. Max could be located so his laboratory will be sold. If Dr. Dan, as a doctor, knows of anyone who might be interested, he should let the judge know. The judge leaves. Dr. Dan says that he feels so guilty. Michelle says that Dr. Max killed himself. Dr. Dan says that they both know that Dr. Max didn’t kill Rebeca. “Yes,” says Michelle, “did you find anything out last night?” Dr. Dan say that he didn’t but he will keep investigating. Michelle suggests that they buy the Dr. Max’s lab. Everything he needs for find a cure for Soledad’s daughter is there.

Boris thanks the blacksmith for selling them his business. Boris looks around excitedly, “We got the smithy!” (‘Ya tenemos la herreria!’) Ursula comes in. She says that she saw Boris come into the workshop and she wanted him to know that she thinks he is very brave for saving Hugo’s life at the hanging. She is very proud of him. He thanks her and says how courteous she is. Boris says that this is a big day. He’s just bought this blacksmith shop and he is going to work here with Don Hugo. Ursula says that she is happy. But this means that they won’t see each other that much. Now that their bosses are separated, it will be more difficult. Boris says that he wants to see her. Hugo and Soledad’s problems shouldn’t affect them. He says that Ursula is a very good woman and he doesn’t want to lose the friendship they have. Ursula says that she doesn’t want to lose their friendship either. Boris says that he saw Marina in the street yesterday. Ursula says that she thought Marina had run away from the city. Hugo comes in. Ursula leaves. Hugo tells Boris that he just saw Marina in Alcides’ house and he dropped the charges against her.

Alcides tells Eloisa that he is sorry he wasn’t at Rebeca’s funeral. Eloisa says that almost no one came. That’s how hypocritical people are. Alcides agrees. He asks Eloisa if Paquito suspects about the treasure or about her aunt. Almost too quickly, Eloisa says that she spoke with Paquito the previous evening and he is convinced that Rebeca didn’t find the treasure and that Alcides wasn’t involved in her death. Alcides says that he hope she keeps her word. Eloisa says that she promised to keep his secret and besides they have common interests. Eloisa doesn’t understand why Alcides has Marina in his house. She isn’t trustworthy (and you are?). Alcides replies that he has plans for her and he wants to keep an eye on her. Alcides tells Eloisa to tell him about every step that Soledad takes. Alcides will pay Dr. Max and Dr. Dan a lot of money to find a cure for Soledad’s daughter. He also wants Eloisa to find out if what Rebeca told him before she died is true – that Jeremias gave Ester her house and if so, why he did it. Eloisa says that he can count on her and she hopes he will pay very well for her services. She strokes his hand. Alcides eats nuts.

Los Burque are ready to go to London. Guille is hulking the luggage. He says that he forgot his violin and has to go back for it. The lawyer says that won’t be necessary. Guille’s father has a collection of Stradivarius violins. Elena thinks maybe a Stradivarius is a brother they have to share their inheritance with. Guille explains. They get dressed up and say goodbye to their friends: Hugo and Boris and the Obragons. (Did I hear right? Hugo spoke in English to Guille? He said, “let me give you a piece of advice..”)

There follows a big montage of scenes, mercifully without much dialog that indicate the passage of time:

Boris explains hammering and suchlike to Hugo. Michelle brings Hugo a broken sword. He says it is too expensive to fix. If she trusts him, he will make her a new sword.

Lucas gets therapy and Soledad is carrying bedpans in a low-cut nurses’ uniform.

Doña Gladis is harassing Arturo and he’s taken to drink.

Hercu-less and Margot just have sex all the time.

Dr. Dan buys Dr. Max’s lab and works on a cure for Aurora’s catalepsy. Dr. Dan is trying to show Soledad how to look through a microscope when Alcides comes in. He is not a happy camper when Soledad hugs Dr. Dan.

Alcides gives money and a letter to Herc who in turns gives it to Eloisa.

No wonder the patients get better in Soledad’s hospital. All the nurses are beautiful and wear low cut dresses. (What happened to the nurse’s uniform that Beatriz was wearing?) Eloisa is there on the job for Alcides and Michelle too.

Hugo’s working away in the forge. (I hope they make something other than swords. How many swords can a place like San Marino need? Shouldn’t they be making something more useful?) Michelle comes in and kisses Hugo. She admires the sword he made for her.

Boris makes a sculpture for Ursula while Marina looks on jealously.

Arturo wants to have sex with Margot but she apparently isn’t interested.

Paquito and Eloisa have a knockdown drag out fight and then have sex. Paquito checks on his money in the wardrobe. He buys Omar’s bar.

Hugo and Boris are carrying some brass bedsteads into the hospital and Hugo sees Soledad with Dr. Dan treating a child. He looks for a few seconds and continues on.

Alcides offers Dr. Dan a big bag of money to find a cure for catalepsy but it looks like Dr. Dan refuses. Alcides wants Hercu-less to tell Eloisa that it’s been two months and he is tired of supporting her ineptitude.

Soledad and Ursula are walking and she sees Alcides and avoids him.

Paquito teases (I guess) Marina by putting a hangman’s noose on his cane and dangling it in front of her face.

Lucas stands up.

Three months later

Dr. Dan gets all the Obragons together. Eloisa is there as well. He has a surprise for them. It’s Lucas walking with crutches. Soledad is grateful to Dr. Dan. She embraces him.

Eloisa scurries right over to Alcides and tell him that helping Lucas is bringing Dr. Dan and Soledad together. Alcides says that Dr. Dan refused his donation to speed up the catalepsy cure process. He says that the little doctor (doctorcillo) is getting in his way. Eloisa warns him to be careful. Alcides says that he would do anything to win Soledad’s love.

Margot is having a sponge bath. A hand covers her eyes. She thinks it’s Hercu-less but it’s Arturo. It’s been three months and he wants to try and have sex again.

Boris is working in the forge and Ursula bring him some jam she made. He says that he really appreciates it. Ursula says that she likes to see him smile. It shows that life isn’t that bad. “Of course life isn’t bad,” says Boris, “Having a woman, I’m sorry, with a woman like you, life is beautiful.” Marina is watching this exchange.

Hugo has invited Michelle to an elegant dinner (I guess he got off early from work). He says that he wants to thank her for the last three months. Since he doesn’t have the money to buy her jewels or take her to a nice restaurant, he made this delicious dinner for her (in the hotel kitchen?). Michelle asks if he made it all himself. Hugo says yes but she has to try it and tell him what she thinks. She says that it is delicious. She didn’t know he could cook so well. He says that he never thought he would be a blacksmith either but Michelle told him that he made her the best sword she ever had. Michelle says that the food is very good. If Hugo gives up being a blacksmith, he could be a chef. Hugo leans over to wipe a drop of wine from Michelle’s lip. Dinner is forgotten. Hugo thanks Michelle for everything and they kiss.

Back at the Obragon house, Soledad asks where Eloisa is. Antonia says that she seemed to have something important to do. Dr. Dan asks for their attention and says he has another surprise. He asks everyone but Soledad to sit. He has something very important to ask Soledad in front of them all. Alcides appears to be watching this. Dr. Dan says that he is a scientist and isn’t good at making speeches but what he is going to ask her only takes four words but these four words fill his heart and mean the world to him. He gets down on one knee and asks Soledad to marry him (Quieres ser mi novia?). He has a ring. Alcides is watching. Dr. Dan says that this might not have been the best way to ask Soledad to marry him. He probably should have spoken to Lucas first. Lucas says that Dr. Dan has his support and blessing. Dr. Dan is a good guy and would make a good husband for his daughter. (Aurora is making little noises during all this.) Ester says that Lucas is right. They make a beautiful couple. Soledad is urged to respond by her family. She takes the ring. Dr. Dan asks if that means she accepts. Alcides holds his breath. Soledad says that it means they have to talk. Alcides breathes. Soledad leads Dr. Dan out of the room.

Michelle says that she has dreamed of this moment for months – to be in Hugo’s arms, to be his. Dialog-free love making ensues.

Arturo tells Margot to take off her clothes. He needs to know if he is ready to please her in bed. Margot says that she has become fond of Arturo while she took care of his hand without his mother knowing. But she lives with Hercu-less. She doesn’t want them to fight. Arturo says that she is the only person who can help him. She begs him not to ask her to do something she shouldn’t do. Arturo says that he isn’t asking. He wants to be with her in bed. Period (Punto).

Marina watches while Boris asks Ursula asks how Lucas and Soledad are doing. Ursula says Lucas is getting better but he can only take small steps. Ursula can’t go out and work so the situation in the house is very complicated. Boris says it is the same for him and Hugo trying to make a go of this workshop. Boris offers to pay for the jam. Ursula says it is a gift. Marina comes in and says that now Ursula is taking money from men – like a slut.

While Alcides watches, Soledad tells Dr. Dan that he is a great guy. He would make any woman happy. It is an honor that he chose her. Her family loves him too. Alcides gets his gun out, cocks and aims it at Dr. Dan. Eloisa lowers his arm. “It only takes one second to do something crazy, Alcides,” she says. Alcides says that Dr. Dan has gotten in his way. Eloisa asks if he has gone completely crazy? He shouldn’t do things without thinking.
Dr. Dan says to Soledad that all the stuff about him being a great guy means that she won’t marry him, right? Soledad replies that she’s not ready to be his wife. Dr. Dan makes his sad/goofy smile.

Hugo and Michelle go at it to a new song and Hugo has a vision or something of Soledad’s face and then is surprised when he sees Michelle’s face. Michelle asks him if he is ok but they continue.

Marina calls Ursula a prostitute and they get into a fight. Boris carefully puts down the jam and tries to stop them.

“Don’t you realize what you were going to do?” Eloisa asks Alcides, “If you kill Dr. Dan, you’ll be in serious trouble. You can’t lose control for a whim.” Alcides says that Soledad isn’t a whim. He loves her more than life itself. Eloisa points out that if Alcides kills Dr. Dan in front of Soledad, he’ll lose her forever. Alcides says that he lost control when he heard Soledad says that Dr. Dan was the man of her life. Eloisa says that she did tell Alcides that Dr. Dan was making points with Soledad. Alcides says that with Hugo, it is different. Winning over Soledad is an honor, a challenge but that’s not the case with this doctor. Alcides says that he won’t let this newcomer ruin his plans.

Soledad tells Dr. Dan that her heart isn’t healed yet. He knows this. She need more time. Dr. Dan says that means she still loves Hugo. Soledad replies that it means that Hugo has been the only man in her life. He hurt her so much that she needs time to believe in love again. Dr. Dan says that he has loved and respected other women in his life but this is the first time that he has truly fallen in love and he believes that true love lasts a lifetime. He believes that she is the love of his life. Soledad says that they have so much in common. Dr. Dan asks if that means he still has a chance? Soledad replies that she will keep the ring. When she is ready to start over, she will start wearing it. Then he will know that she is ready to be his finacée. Alcides watches with hatred in his eyes.

Arturo still can’t do it. He flashes back to cutting off his hand. He says that this is all Alcides’ fault. Margot tells him that he has to forget Alcides and Arturo says that he will forget him when Alcides is dead. Margot tells him that he needs to find a woman that he likes and desires. Arturo says that he likes her but he still can’t perform. Margot says that he has to find a woman that he loves. Arturo replies that he doesn’t believe in this love stuff. Arturo promises not to tell Hercu-less that he was there but he drops one of his gloves on the way out. “Poor Arturo,” says Margot.

Dr. Dan says that Soledad has no idea of the happiness he feels in having the hope of being a part of her family some day. Soledad says that she has to tell him that in the eyes of God, she is still married to Alcides. She was divorced in civil law but is still married in the church. A request to annul the marriage has been made to the bishop but she hasn’t heard back. Dr. Dan says that patience is his greatest virtue. He’ll wait as long as it takes if it gives him the chance to be her husband and to love and adore her and her beautiful daughter. “You are an angel fallen from heaven,” says Soledad, “Thanks for bringing such happiness to my life. You give me much peace.” They kiss. Alcides is watching.

The credits roll.

Tomorrow- Michelle tells Soledad that she was with Hugo.

Al Diablo Con Los Guapos #88, Wednesday 5-28: "A wise lover values not so much the gift of the lover as the love of the giver."

-Thomas á Kempis

We start off tonight's new stuff with Constancio and Luciana looking at each other and wondering if the other knows where their lost objet d'proof of adultery is. For those who may have missed it, the watch and the ring are both in Karla's cleavage, which is quite a feat considering she barely has any to speak of. Constancio and Luciana both wonder, in thought bubbles, whether the other one knows and then both decide that Karla can save the day. Constancio summons Karla to the study, but Luciana calls her back to stage whisper "Don't say a word about the ring!" Karla of course reminds her she'll pay.

In the living room, Mili and Hugo cuddle while Mili thanks Hugo for helping get Rocky and Horacio settled at Mili's house. Alejandro catches them and asks if Mili's dating both guys at once (Hugo and Mateo). Mili tells him to butt out and Hugo gets her out of there, saying he's got a fun day planned. Constancio and Karla pass by on their way to the study and Karla takes the opportunity to give Alejandro an "I told you so."

Karla and Constancio and Karla and Luciana now have parallel conversations in the study, for which I thank the writers as it cuts down on my workload. The conversations went thusly, with noted exceptions:

Blackmailee: Karla, I need you to tear up the house, but very discreetly, and find out if my spouse found a thingy that I lost that a member of the opposite sex gave me and if my spouse finds it, said spouse will make my life hell.
Karla: Oh, you've got a lover, huh?
Blackmailee: Just follow orders, k?
Karla: You know, there's a golden rule, "Never accept gifts from lovers."
Blackmailee: Save your advice and just do what you're told. **Luciana: I don't have a lover!! Just do what you're told
Karla: Hm, is this in my job description?
Blackmailee: OK, ok, I'll pay you **Luciana: I'll give you a few thousand pesos.

In her conversation with Constancio, we find out that International Bank of Karla no longer accepts personal checks. All deposits must be made in cash at time of service, no exceptions, no returns. International Bank of Karla thanks you for your business.

Chamuco tries to have a nice conversation with Gloria about her new family. Gloria's ok with Gamuza, but she won't claim her BioDad (and boy do I not blame her). Chamuco announces that he's going to work with Rocky and Horacio at the tire place and at Taco Naco. He estimates that in nine or ten years he'll have enough money for them to get married. Gloria looks horrified. Show of hands--How many think it's because it will take nine or ten years? How many think it's because of the idea of being married to Chamuco?

Mateo calls the house for Mili and talks to Lina. She gets busted by Alejandro, who takes the phone and says Milagros is out with her other boyfriend. Buh-bye.

Mili and Hugo are at Six Flags Mexico, playing games, winning giant teddy bears, eating cotton candy, going on rides, and terrorizing mimes. Yes, that's right, mimes. Bless the writers for this too, as there's no dialogue.

Karla and Constancio and Karla and Luciana now have another set of parallel conversations, thusly:

Karla: I'm afraid your spouse has found the thingy.
Blackmailee: Oh, crap!
Karla: Never fear, we can fix this…for a price! Give me a raise and more cash than you originally offered.
Blackmailee: I'm listening.
Karla: I'll get your thingy back and then your spouse will have no proof.
Blackmailee: Ooh, good plan! Get my thingy back and I'll double your salary! **Constancio: Oh, and if you could get those compromising photos back, that would be cool too.
Karla: Double my salary AND my mom's and we're in business.
Blackmailee: Fine, whatever. **Constancio: If you don't come through, you and your mom are outta here!

I wonder how long she can keep this going before each one finds out the other doesn't know a thing?

Mili, Hugo, and the bear--let's call him Señor Snugglypants--are home and goofing around in the living room. Mili had a great day and admits she missed her buddy Hugo. Constancio comes in and asks about Señor Snugglypants. Constancio asks Mili to have dinner with the family. She doesn't want to and gets in a dig about Horacio and Rocky being gone. Hugo then asks Mili to have dinner with the family and talks her into it--"But only today and only because you asked." Hugo goes upstairs to change. Constancio, in a fit of plot contrivance, practically rips Señor Snugglypants out of Mili's arms insisting that he help her carry her new boy toy upstairs. Mili's medal gets ripped off her wrist in the process. Constancio doesn't own up to it, so Mili tells the story about her mom putting it on her before she died, etc. That doesn't get him admitting anything, so she asks why he cares so much about her past. He makes excuses about the stuff he'd found out before and mentions that she used to be happy that he took an interest. Mili asks if he thinks her mom was pretty and he answers "Beautiful, like you. And oh, by the way, you're my daughter." Except he didn't say the last part of that, which is why Mili doesn't accept his offer of having the chain fixed. She runs upstairs. Constancio calls Padre Manuel and asks him to come over ASAP.

Señor Snugglypants gets tossed on Regina's bed as Mili cries to Lina that "he" saw "it" and didn’t say anything and is a coward for keeping "his" mouth shut. Lina mentions that Mateo's been calling all day and that Alejandro took the phone and told him Mili was out with her "other" boyfriend. Mili then tries to claim she and Hugo are "just friends," but Lina's not buying it, cause friends don't give each other presents like Señor Snugglypants.

Luciana and Constancio spend a tense few moments having a conversation in which neither of them has anything to say to the other about anything. Then Valeria comes in, pouting, and apologizes for her crazy spell, saying she's soooo over that nasty chauffeur, like, totally. Her parents are forgiving and fight over who's going to hug her. Constancio says they "all" make mistakes, right? Valeria then says she feels really bad for getting that miserable chauffeur and the gardener fired and couldn’t they be hired back. Constancio says they're never setting foot in his house again. Luciana agrees with Constancio (quick, look for the four horsemen!). Constancio offers to hire a new chauffeur--preferably one who's married this time--but Valeria insists she can drive herself. Luciana, "You don't know how to drive." Valeria: "Morgan taught me…he taught me *sob* so many things!" She runs out of the room and Luciana and Constancio agree that she's still "encaprichada," she still has a crush.

Rocky and Horacio are getting settled into their new place. Rocky is ok with spending money to make the place comfortable, but he's obsessed with continuing to make more money so he can marry Valeria.

Luciana calls Bim and Bo in for a conference about Valeria. The two girls are not shocked to hear about her involvement with Rocky, but they are surprised that Valeria is insisting it's luuuuuurve.

Up in her bedroom, Valeria has at least finally taken a shower and is moping around in a bathrobe, slippers, and towel turban. Bim and Bo come in and offer their condolences about Regina. They sneer at Valeria's suggestion to go to the Rodeo, since she's going to look for "him." The bottom line is, they don't want to be friends until she gets back to her usual Snobby Spice self.

Valeria goes to visit Mili, who's surprised that Valeria isn't calling her nasty names. Valeria and Mili talk a little about Regina and her things and Valeria thanks Mili for making Regina happy. She jokes that Mili's her aunt now since Regina adopted her, but she says she finds it easier to think of Mili as a sister. Mili is thrilled. Valeria asks if Mili will come with her to the Rodeo tonight--she's desperate to see Rocky. Mili wants to know if Rocky's just the flavor of the week, but Valeria insists he's the love of her life. Mili, like any self-respecting older sister, suggests they sneak out after dinner. What can I say, folks, it's a time-honored tradition.

Karla is in the kitchen, complaining to Socorro, Gloria, and Lina about how Mili was with Alejandro, and them Mateo, and now she's with Hugo. Really she's just pissed off that Mili won't leave some available rich men for her. And hey, it's not for lack of trying. Socorro tells her to shut it and go serve the soup. Show of hands--Who thinks they know where this is headed?

So, at the table are Constancio, Luciana, Alejandro, Florencia, Damian, Hugo, Mili, and Valeria. Damian says some nice things about missing Regina, except that we all know he's full of it. Luciana gripes at Karla and Lina for taking so long to get there and serve the soup. Damian is surprised that the chauffeur got fired. Luciana tries to blame it on incompetence, which Valeria disagrees was the reason. Luciana says she does everything for her kids, so that lets Alejandro get in a "Oh, yeah, that's why you gave your shares to Hugo." Constancio thanks Mili for having dinner with them and says she shouldn't eat with the servants. Luciana complains about Mili being there and Luciana not being used to seeing her there. Florencia brings up Mili being her servant for a few days and not being very good at it. Mili's getting madder and madder. Luciana says the reason Mili did such a crappy job is that Florencia didn't have men around for her to, uh, service. Ouch! Hugo stands up for Mili, as does Damian (for whatever that's worth!). Constancio brings up Mili's inheritance again as a reason Damian wants Mili for a daughter-in-law. Everybody brings up Mili's two almost-marriages, which upsets Florencia. Alejandro says that if you want to marry Mili you have to tie her down, since she's making leaving men at the altar a habit. Karla ladles soup into Mili's lap, which starts a fight. Hugo and Constancio pull the two of them apart. Luciana says "once a servant, always a servant" and says Milagros doesn't know how to behave. Mili takes the soup from Lina and says, as many a three-year-old before her has said, "you're right, I don't know how to behave," then dumps the soup over Luciana's head. Lina gets the hell out of there, leaving the family gaping at Luciana. Damian offers her bread, which gets everyone laughing. She screeches at them and then leaves the room, Florencia hot on her heels. Oh, so that's how you're supposed to behave when soup is spilled on you?

Down at the Taco Naco, Horacio tells Rocky "Guess who showed up?" Out on the Rodeo dance floor, Mili and the Miliettes, plus little sister, walk across the floor. Horacio points Valeria out to Rocky. The two star-crossed lovers approach slowly:

Rocky: Chiquita, you shouldn't have come.
Valeria: I had to see you! I'm so bad without you!
Rocky: Does your dad know you're here?
Valeria: No. Why did you listen to him? Why didn't you fight for our luuurve?
Rocky: Because what he said was true. I don't have anything to offer you…not yet.
Valeria: For me, your love is enough.

The effects guys play with lighting and smoke as Valeria and Rocky kiss.

Back at Casa Belmonte, Constancio gripes out Padre Manuel for giving Mili back her medal. Padre Manuel figured it was safe since Regina was dead. Constancio is upset about the initials on the back, but Padre Manuel says Mili has those letters memorized, so what's the diff? Luciana comes in, ready to fight with Constancio about what Mili did. Padre Manuel says he'd like the opportunity to talk to both of them.

At the Taco Naco, Pedro tells Mili that Gay Night at the Rodeo is all set for next Saturday. Now all Mili has to do is get Braulio to show up. Pedro asks her to sing with the band tonight and Mili says it will be practice for next Saturday since she wants to sing and fill the place with luuuuurve vibes.

At one of the tables, Rocky keeps telling Valeria about how he wants to make money for her to have all the stuff she's used to and how he's going to work hard at the Taco Naco and the tire shop to make that happen. Valeria stumbles over the word "vulcanizadora" and asks what that's all about. Rocky tells her about Don Pepe and the little shop and so on. Valeria wants to see it. Like, now. And I think what she means by "see it" is "get hot and heavy on a pile of tires" and by "now" she means "before I rip your clothes of and throw you down on the dance floor." In looking up "vulcanizadora" I found this cute little article that others may also find amusing: http://www.playamayanews.com/living_in_mexico/what_is_a_vulcanizadora_anyway_.html

Socorro presents the kitchen for inspection before Braulio will let her out for the night. Braulio declines to go with her since that would leave Karla alone in the house and, well, you know how she is. Braulio asks her to say "hi" to Rocky and Horacio and to get his, uh, sister's dolls back for him. Alejandro runs in just then and Socorro despairs of being able to leave. Alejandro seems mildly surprised that the other gals are at the Rodeo tonight. Puh-leez, is he so dim that he couldn't have figured that out himself? Alejandro insists that Socorro can't go out there alone at night, so he'll just have to drive her. Mhm. Socorro accepts, but then again, how was she supposed to refuse?

Padre Manuel tells Luciana that Alejandro deserves to know who his daddy is. Luciana gets pissed off and since Padre Manuel won't leave, she leaves instead. Constancio wonders what's up, since he told PM that Alejandro's not his son under the seal of the confessional. PM says he didn't violate confidentiality, he heard about it from, erm, "someone else." Luciana? "Um, no someone else." Oops, now he's stuck having to figure out how to avoid telling Constancio about who told him.

Rocky shows Valeria how some of the vulcanizadora equipment is supposed to work. Dude, I don't think that's what she wanted to see. Valeria asks if the business has a name yet, but Rocky and Horacio haven't agreed on one. Rocky wants to name it after his dream, and the reason he's doing all this, and call it "Vulcanizadora Valeria." Valeria is flattered and kisses him for his trouble. Valeria has brought a picnic basket and Rocky wonders what's in it. A bottle of white wine, empanadas, and a stereo…"Does it remind you of anything?" Valeria asks, and reminds him about the time they were stranded out in the middle of nowhere. Rocky reminds her there was something else he wanted to do and Valeria says she wasn't ready then, but she's ready now. Bow, chicka bow, bow! "Thanks vulcanizadora man, but I don't have any way to pay you for fixing my flat tire." Oh, sorry, went somewhere else there for a minute…. Rocky offers to uncork the bottle of wine, but Valeria won't risk him falling asleep this time. More Bow, chicka bow, bow, ensues as Rocky and Valeria make sweet, sweet love among the tires.

Meanwhile, Mili's singing a love song at the Rodeo…a slow one this time. Socorro joins Horacio at a table. Smoochies. Mili wipes tears off her face as she sings. Alejandro comes up on stage and starts singing with her. Oh, hell, let me get the words in here:

(Mili) When they talk about love and hopes
And they offer you the sun and all the heavens
If you remember me, don't mention me
Because you'll feel good love
And if they want to know about your past
You'll have to tell a lie
Say you come from out there, from a strange world
And you don't know how to cry
And you don't understand love
And you've never loved
(Alejandro) Because where I'm going
I'll talk about your love
Like a golden dream
And I'll forget the anger
And I won't say that your love
Made me a miserable wretch
And if they want to know about my past
I'll have to tell another lie
I'll tell them I came from a strange world
And I don't know about the hurt
That triumphs over love
And I've never cried
(Mili) Because where I'm going
I'll talk about your love
Like a golden dream
And I'll forget the anger
And I won't say that your love
Made me a miserable wretch
(Both) And if they want to know about my past
I'll have to tell another lie
Say you come from out there, from a strange world
And you don't know how to cry
And you don't understand love
And you've never loved

Oh, kill me now. What are we going to do with these kids.

Speaking of…Padre Manuel is refusing to answer and saying that Mili and Alejandro need to know the truth and isn't Constancio tired of living a lie. He says he's not surprised Constancio wants to be a politician since the lying thing comes so easily to him and heck, he'd even get paid to lie! Constancio orders him out. Padre Manuel says Constancio's just like Luciana…he'd rather throw Padre Manuel out than confront the truth. PM says he's living in a sand castle and sooner or later, that wave's gonna come and send them all to hell. Constancio says he's going to keep sending checks to the diocese, but he wants Padre Manuel to stay out of Casa Belmonte. PM tries again to say that Mili and Alejandro need to know who their dads are. Constancio says that Alejandro's dad is dead, but PM begs to differ. Constancio is impactado.

Tomorrow: Alejandro rejects Luciana some more and says she's why he's leaving the country. And probably some more dirty dealings.
