Querida Enemiga Tues. Oct. 21, '08 #85 NO, NO, NO, SAY IT AIN' T SO!!!!

Alternate title: DUMB AND DUMBER GET ENGAGED

Alright, now that I've vented my spleen, let's get to the recap. We have a little rehash of Sara and Bruno in their low-rent digs, musing on how best to take revenge on Alonso and the family. They decide that sabotaging Zulema's bypass operation is the perfect opportunity. Sara caresses Bruno's leg, pleased that he's such a go-to guy. Ay yi yi, what's not to love?

Now the aftermath of the "despedidas". Julian has the mother of all hangovers and Rossy's fuming because she thinks he may have a guilty conscience as well. They both end up assuring the other that they each just indulged in "sanos esparcimientos" (healthy relaxation, recreation) during their respective parties. Rossy decides not to kill him just yet as that would deep-six the wedding.

Aftermath 2: Paula's at Alonso's apartment noticing the mess and then adding slyly...You should have seen Lorena last night! Alonso immediately shows some jealousy so she quickly assures him it was nothing and lights into Don Toribio for dating Catalina, mother-in-law, so to speak, of that witch who took her Dario. Don Toribio protests that Catalina is "just a friend" and rolls his eyes in long-suffering.

And speaking of witches, schemer-girl, who engineered Bettina's accident, jumps up to join Ivan in the contest, assuring the teacher she knows all the choreography but is ready to put in as much extra time as possible to practice. Ivan is bummed but Bettina tells him to do it for "both of us" so he agrees. (I'm much too worried about Ernesto to fret about this little subplot but hey...whatever).

Rossy, meanwhile, is continuing her torture of the hairdresser. This time the coiffure she requests makes her head look like broccoli....or a salad...and the poor guy is ready to shave her head rather than start all over. Lorena pours oil on troubled waters, convincing him that he's the ONLY man in the world who can make Rossy a beautiful bride. He finally agrees as long as Rossy promises to keep her lip zipped while he's working.

Now we see Rossy and Lorena, all gussied up and Lordy, with a ton of eye makeup on!...even by Televisa standards Lorena looks like a racoon. An attractive racoon yes, but still..... Anyway, big embrace. Wedding nerves. You're my" amiga de alma" etc. At the lesser house, Omar is helping a equally nervous Julian get ready (he has his tie turned backwards) and we have an awkward little scene where Julian assures him he's the best father and husband ever... and the man Julian most admires in the whole world. Omar looks uncomfortable. As well he should.

Back to Rossy's house. Doorbell rings. It's Chef Hawt bearing gifts. Lorena's impactada at seeing him. He's impactado period, managing to mumble only that she's beautiful, that he had to see her, NEEDED to see her. She reminds him frostily that they agreed it was over and he apologizes for being self-centered enough to try one more time. Ye gods, this guy is so whipped right now!! I think he should just undo that fussy little chignon of hers, throw her over his shoulder and haul her off into the bushes... but no, he apologizes some more, kisses her chastely on the cheek and leaves. She raises her eyebrows. I want to smack her. Moving on.....

We're in a beautiful church and Rossy comes down the aisle on the arm of Vasco, smiling at one and all. Some smoochy kisses at the end of the ceremony. No gold coins or "lazos" around the couple but whatever. Scene shifts to Redeemed Acres where the reception is being held. Greta sees Omar and gives him a smoldering stare. He looks like his pants are too tight. The party continues.

Ivan is late to the reception because of all the extra practice he had to do with the talcum powder wench. He wants to spare Ernesto driving him, afraid that seeing Lorena will be painful. Ernesto assures him he already saw Lorena that morning so no reason not to drop him off. Ivan says he'll manage to find another way home.

Now that the religious ceremony is over, the civil ceremony, which includes Maruja and Jaime begins. Rossy and Maruja really do look like mother and daughter. There's an impactado moment when Hortensia appears, walking with a cane, and very dolled up, asking if she could be one of the witnesses. Maruja answers that she would be honored. The papers are signed, Lorena and Alonso, Zully and Omar. Hortensia and whoever.... Lots of kisses. Lots of pictures.

Greta comes up to flirt with a very nervous Omar. She assures him it's normal for a secretary to speak with her boss at a party and goes on to gush about what a beautiful house he grew up in. You must have been very happy! No....I learned about happiness later....with Zulema. You say that to hurt me, fires back Greta, but I know you're VERY HAPPY with me...happier than you are with her.

Hortensia's in the dining room inspecting the food, looking a bit like her persnickety old self in the company kitchen. Zully is defensive about the simple dishes, noting they didn't really have the budget to do more. Hortensia assures her that what impresses her is the tenderness and love with which the food was prepared. And Zully's united family. Only I am out of place, adds Horty sadly. I thank you for caring for my son and for giving him what I couldn't. Zully looks mollified but a little flummoxed.

At that point, Hortensia sees Vasco, holding Diana's baby, and lights up like a Christmas tree. You came, son! Only because of Jaime and Julian., he retorts. As Diana enters, Hortensia asks for forgiveness once more. Diana gives it; Vasco won't. He's still far too angry.

Our hapless Ernesto is in front of the house, dropping off Ivan and sighing Lorena, I know you're in there. How I wish I were with you. (as do we, chef, as do we)

More reception frivolity as Lorena and Rossy are talking about being sisters; Julian complains that he's been downgraded, he and Rossy start teasing each other with sexy soccer double entendres (red cards, penalties, you're my big scorer, full-time and overtime etc.) and some more kisses.

Dear clueless Zully has gone over to personally thank Greta for "what she's doing for her". Greta assures her that she's seen nothing suspicious. Omar works hard and is a perfect gentleman. Yes, Zully answers, but something's going on. I know that. Indeed.

Ivan, in the meantime, has scoped out from Bettina that there's nothing formal between Alonso and Lorena. Tio Alonso would love for there to be but there isn't. He can't wait to let his own tio know, but alas Ivan has left his cellphone at home.

It's bouquet throwing time and I hope, if you saw this, that you noticed Barbara jumping around like a madwoman. I'm surprised she didn't catch the bouquet. It went to Diana who then exchanges meaningful looks with Vasco. So what does Alonso do? grabs some flowers out of one of the table decorations, presents the mangled blooms to Lorena and asks her to be his novia and marry him. There's a decorous pause while he sweats it....but then she says "yes", she accepts. And even more surprising, adds, "let's forget the past". Not often you hear a woman say that! He promises to love her all the days of his life. (This is the only thing that gives me hope. If he promises that, it ain't gonna happen...not by telenovela rules, right?)

Okay, switch to the guy we really want Lorena to marry (though she doesn't deserve him at this point). He's driving around aimlessly, his "animo en el sótano" (down in the dumps) when Jimena, showing a lot of 38 Long cleavage, calls and tells him to meet her at their old stamping grounds where they have delicious margaritas. She's ready to give him a shoulder to cry on and then some. He's convinced, does a screeching U-turn and heads for the bar.

More celebrating back at the reception. Barbara is congratulating Maruja and Jaime on their marriage and Jaime is wishing her the best in return, noting that they have HALF their life ahead of them. Now Barbara knows he's a changed man! he never used to be that optimistic.

"Pastel, pastel, queremos el pastel!" So the cake is brought out, Maruja and Rossy get into one of their endless arguments over who's going to do what, and finally their husbands step in and cut the cake themselves. Rossy's happy they're not going on the honeymoon together. So are we.

Ivan's in the house, borrowing a cellphone from a waiter (who's worried Ivan's not going to pay for the calls) and trying to reach Ernesto. He gets sidetracked though and decides to kiss Bettina instead. Paula and Greta arrive just at this moment. Paula goes into a Heimlich-worthy choke. Ivan vamooses. Bettina is embarrassed. Greta helpfully adds that Paula has "metido la pata....hasta el fondo" (really put her foot in it).

Chef Hawt is getting seriously sloshed, sucking down martinis like they're water. But not even a thousand martinis can dull his pain. Not even as an adolescent has he been in love like this. He's paying dearly ("con creces") for it. The cellphone keeps ringing but he refuses to answer. It's not Lorena, he knows the kids are fine; he doesn't recognize the number.

We flip back to the reception where Zully is gushing with happiness over Lorena's engagement. After all, Alonso is the one who gave Lorena back her family. And now they have so much to catch up on...so much to look forward to...a wedding, Lorena's graduation, her first child...(Oh Lordy, I hope they're not going to have Zully die on the operating table!? Noooo, they wouldn't do that.....would they?)

Anyway, back to our suffering chef. Jimena has ordered him a taxi since he's three sheets to the wind. He assures her he's got "muy buen cabeza". "Pero mal trago" she replies. ("trago" can be drink but it can also mean "experience") She leaves. The phone rings and this time he answers. It's Ivan telling him Lorena and Alonso aren't novios. Ernesto celebrates by finishing his umpteenth martini, ordering another and gulping down Jimena's leftover margarita as well. This doesn't bode well.

Back at the lesser house, Zully and Omar are proposing a more decorous toast, with little cups of leftover Christmas cider. To Lorena and Alonso! from one wedding to another! Diana adds. The phone rings and Omar excuses himself (as well you should!) It's Greta, wanting to tuck him in with a "good night" and imagined kisses all over his body. He complains that he's blushing but doesn't hang up. When Diana comes in to find him, he quickly says, Fine. I'll talk to you at work tomorrow about those orders. His daughter is impressed with his work ethic. (Ah Diana, you're in for a big letdown, I fear.)

Diana, by the way, didn't encourage talk of marrying Vasco immediately, noting that she has wounds to heal and doesn't want to inflict her bitterness on anyone. We have a little PSA with Alonso noting that some women spend their whole lives with these worthless abusers.

Paula comes back into the room at her apartment just as Greta is hanging up from talking with Omar. What's that smile? she asks. Just talking to someone I'm crazy about, answers Greta. They propose a toast to Maruja's happiness and Greta adds that she's going to get a man all for herself as well.

Toasting as well at the lesser house, with Alonso saying Here...in front of your family, I vow to dedicate my life to making you happy ,Lorena.

WHOOPS. This tender moment is broken up by a Mariachi band. Man, how many times have we seen this scene!? Still, I love it. A very sloshed Ernesto is out there wailing a long-lost love song. He sings pretty well but he's 3 to 6 beats ahead of the band. A grim-faced Omar wants to go out and talk to him. A red-faced Alonso wants to go out as well. Lorena pulls rank and goes out herself.

Very painful scene for Team Ernesto. (Is there anybody on Team Alonso?....anybody?) Anyway, he lurches towards Lorena, hugs her and tells her he knows she's not with Alonso so she must still love him, right? We switch back and forth between inside (Alonso keeps wanting to charge out and lock antlers with Ernesto) and outside (where Lorena's trying to avoid being kissed and explaining to Ernesto that she's now engaged) CRASH!!! Lightning? Is this a parallel to the thunder that cracked when Ernesto and Alonso confronted each other outside the hotel in San Martin? The weather symbolism in this one is making me nuts. Are the "heavenlies" involved in Lorena's love life? Do we care? Anyway, Alonso and Ernesto face each other, Ernesto drunk, Alonso all red-faced and swaggering. Ernesto tells him to love Lorena, never hurt her again and pretty much implies he'll tear him to pieces, given the chance. Then he turns sadly to the Mariachi players and says Let's go.

Alonso is still plenty testy. What did you tell him? he asks Lorena. That we're engaged and that I love you. (Ugh. I hate writing those words but what can I do?...it's in the script).

Drunk, sad Ernesto. Now drunk sad Greta. All weepy and self-justifying. I'm not a bad person, not a traitor, not a "robamaridos", I'm in love!! I want a man....a man to love me, to look at me with desire, to look at me like I'm a woman! she laments to Paula. She ends up admitting she's in love with a married man....and that the man is Omar.

Actually, this scene was played well and I thought Greta was rather "simpatica". Well, until she referred to Zully as that fatty. Then I was done. Paula tries to take the bottle away and talk some sense into her but nuthin' doin'. Paula goes to bed and Greta collapses on the couch after finishing off the tequila. Another major hangover in the making. Not to mention the rest of the emotional fallout.

Meanwhile, our little child of light, Jacqui ,is noticing that her guru's ardor has cooled. Seems he's got orders from the Divine Light to stop dedicating himself to carnal pleasures. Higher work awaits. Has Jacqui thought about going back to her ex? Well, no, she hasn't. Our two New Age cons will have to come up with another scenario for our gullible disciple.

Greta and Paula are now having a morning rehash of the night before. Paula is outraged that Greta would sabotage someone else's marriage, knowing herself what it feels like. Greta wants unconditional support from her friend and when she doesn't get it, storms out, saying forget the chilaquiles (what she wanted for her hangover breakfast). Recipe follows at end of recap.

Well, that was ugly, but back at Redeemed Acres it's all peace and love. Hortensia and Augusta are sharing fond memories of the night before. Hortensia is happy she could say good-bye to her house with all her family there. And what's more, actually having a good time rather than faking it.

Another morning rendezvous....not quite so perky, with Sara and Bruno. She's miffed because they're eating in a cheap restaurant. But when she finally tries the food, she has to admit it's pretty tasty. They continue plotting to get back at Zulema and the rest of the family when Bruno is called back to the hospital.

And then who comes in but Lorena and Alonso?! ready to breakfast as well, with simple food and lots of kisses. Sara grinds her teeth and vows revenge.

Next time: Sara tells Alonso and Lorena to enjoy their happiness because it won't last. Lorena assures her that it will and that Sara is going to pay for her evil deeds.
* * * * *

Simple chilaquiles recipe for a hangover:

6 corn tortillas, cut into strips
3 T butter or oil
1/2 cup diced onions
1/4 cup chopped green chiles
1/2 tsp. salt
6 eggs
1 cup shredded Jack cheese
red or green salsa

Cut tortillas in strips and fry in butter or oil until crispy. Pour in onion, chile egg mixture and cook until partially set. Sprinkle with cheese, let it melt and top with salsa. Enjoy with plenty of coffee, hot as the devil and sweet as love (the way Brazilians make it...but that's another story).

Yes, this is super-simple and there are thousands of recipes for chilaquiles using all kinds of ingredients and salsas made from scratch. But if I were treating a hangover, this is how I would do it. 'Nuff said.

Fuego - Mon. 10/20 - Cry Wolf? Cry in a well.....

We start with Sofi giving Sara a pep talk to return to her man Franco despite what Sofi feels about Juan; and when the tables turn and Sofi gets the pep talk to let herself be in love with Demian, she refuses to listen to Sara. Turn about is fair play, Sofi dear.

Jime and Oscar are kissing again, and she reminds us that just because she's boffing him every night doesn't mean she's forgiven him. Hmm, ok....anyway he is confused like me. But no matter what he doesn't want her to stop kissing him so he says whatever it takes.

In another room in this swinging hacienda, Franco shows up and forces Sara to submit to his luscious lips. She struggles like a caged animal, but succumbs....

In yet another room of this hacienda loca, Sofi tells herself she can't be with Demian because she hasn't forgotten Juan. Poor Demian. I say run far from this clan of goofballs, and don't quit running until you get to our border and look us up!!

He also pines for her, and flashes back to meeting her.

Doctora is happily wiping sweat from our Juanito when in his stupor he calls out again for his nina. Yeah, that smarts, and she gets mad.

Ha, I was warned about this, seems Gabi has fallen into a well. Well, well, well. She whines that no one knows she's there and she screams she's alive!!!! She hears voices of her past who torture her that appearances are all she worries about. She hears Bernardo and Libia, but cries for Feo.

Juan talks to the local guy about being careful of those animal traps out there. He thanks the guy for saving him, but it wasn't him, it was THE BLACK HORSE. Juan gets excited at this thought.

Sofi wonders again to herself why Juan doesn't come back and where he is, when a servant wanders in and Sofi gets the idea that Feo knows where her Ma is. She goes to wake him up, but he is awake, already musing that Crabby is eating worms right about now. Sofi rouses him out of bed to go look for Ma, but he sloughs it off as Crabby just being Crabby. He tells himself they will look for her, but won't find her because it's too late, Ha ha ha......

Meanwhile, Crabby whines and screams and says she's dying. She's in her bed clothes, isn't she. Wow. She holds her heart.

Back in el Bosque, the local guy shows him that Capricho hasn't moved since he got here. Juan wants to know who this horse is.

Finally, Sara has had enough lovin' and she yells at Franco to leave. For the thousandth time she tells Franco she doesn't want to ever see him again. Oh and she hates him. Again he doesn't listen and proposes a test. She hits him with things. Again.

Oooooooh, but then he begins whacking her on her pompis with a book, could it be a bible? She smiles after he leaves proving to us, yes, she does like S&M.....

Sofi shows up and Sara blames it on a cockaroach....yeah that was some insect.

The boys Reyes depart the haci the way they came, by rope and window. All of a sudden they hear something. Franco wants to inspect, but Oscar says they better go.

Sofi and Sara decide to search for Mami dearest with or without Feo, but he goes.

Jime talks to herself and goes on a fishing expedition and wonders what she should do about Ma being gone.

Maid tells Demian that Sofi is worried about Ma's disappearance.

Oh no, the Bombon is back, in full metallics this time. They treat us to incongruent shots where she's wearing a skirt and then not, and then it's on her again... does anyone else notice that this incredibly sexy woman never really moves her hips....? Weird.

The workers tell of the last time they saw Crabby, but Feo thinks they are useless because they didn't see her after a certain point. He calls them useless but Sofi tells him to cut it out he's not helping.

We flash to Mami still whining in the well. Demian rides by and it sounds like he may have heard her....

but commercial.....

And then she lets out a death scream and he hears that for sure. Yep, he's the savior and finds her, but is it too late? She's out cold. In true Indy Jones style he ropes himself down, ties her on and he and the magic white horse haul her out. Amazing trick. He gives her mouth to mouth, and she wakes up screaming she's dead. Too bad she's not, should have just let her believe it and then put her through hell. Now she screams she's alive.

Back at the Haci, Feo finally decides it's time to look for her, but alas, she's found them first. Dem brings her back and Feo orders a doc, but curses Dem for finding her.

Everyone watches her freak out for a while in her bed. They all thank Dem for saving her. They say he saved her life. He tells Sofi he loves her so she could count on him for anything. He wants to wait even to make sure she's ok before he leaves for the night.

Jime who was slinking around tells herself at least the doc has arrived, but maybe she needs to keep going out even if she gets discovered.

The doc arrives to the still freaked out Crabby. She tells him they tried to bury her alive.

Feo goes to to "thank" Dem for saving his wife. He says he can go now everything is fine. Dem will stay for Sofi, but Feo says no, you have nothing to do here, but Dem wonders if maybe he's jealous, since he used to be the husband. Dem doesn't buck to Feo's pressures and things get nasty quick, but Dem doesn't play with Feo's toys and says he's not going anywhere.

Doc says Ma is fine, just a little upset, but the girls challenge him and he claims he knows her well and she's fine. Cry Wolf anyone? The girls are mad and want another doc.

Medicine man is cursing Juan again with a few bunches of weeds. A local couple shows up screaming their baby is dying and that maybe they should go to the doc. Medicine man says the doc will kill the baby, and if they don't want that, stay here. he says something about the baby having a bad eye.

Sofi goes down to send for the other doc, but Feo says, nope I'm the husband I have the rights to decide so Sofi shouldn't intefere. This of course pisses off Dem who comes over to her defense, but you know, our little Snowfie is defending herself quite well actually. Another warning from Feo to Dem to bug off. Dem calls him a coward. They have stare down, and we'll have to wait to see who wins.

Is it just me or did I miss a segment? It seems this one was only four instead of the usual five??? Oh well, you can add if I'm missing something.....

QE Monday 10/20 - Will have sex for clean money and enlightenment

Your regular recapper Ferro had to take the night off so Julie and Sylvia are tag-teaming substitutes.

Part One courtesy of Julie:

Ickturo has asked his mom to take off with him. She's confused and wants an explanation. He says Sara is very dangerous; she's rich and he's got her money. Yep, he ripped her off. She's Snorty's granddaughter and those jerks fired him from the company and therefore he deserves that money. Catalina gapes.

Sara is screeching her own version of the story to Bruno: Icky ripped her off like some idiot. And he'd be crazy too if he'd lost millions. She's going to end up in jail. She's sunk because of her own stupidity. Bruno wants her to explain everything - beginning with why she deceived him.

Cata doesn't want to just abandon the house. Icky says they can try to sell it later. It's now or never. He doesn't want to leave her. Does she want to stay because of that old guy she's been going with? This seems to make up her mind - she'll go with him. She's not sure what to pack. He says don't worry about clothes - they'll buy all new stuff wherever they end up.

Jacqui tells Efrain (in bed) that she's never felt so much at peace as now. He reminds her that they must reward the temple for their good fortune. She says she's willing to give all she has, including some money that Sara has that still needs to be cleaned. He is very interested in cleaning up this money - er, I mean soul. Right now, however, Jacqui is still horny. Efrain gives thanks!

Bruno is not happy with Sara. If she'd just trusted him, they could have taken off with a briefcase full of money, but noooooo, she gave it all to that guy. She wants him to help. He says what are they going to do, rob a bank? No, she wants him to take her to Icky's house. Evidently Bruno didn't know that his ex-coworker Valeria was Icky's husband. He knows where the house is and she might need him to smack Icky around or something. She offers him 10%. Ha! He wants half. She has no choice but to give in. She gets all seductive with him and says they'll be together anyway. He wants to stop at home first to pick up his gun. "Just in case."

Maruja and Jaime wait for Snorty so that they can formally announce their engagement. Jaime thinks it's odd that Maruja's so worried about meeting her, considering how long she was Snorty's employee. Maruja says it's something else to be her daughter-in-law! It's like science fiction!

Alonso and Lorena go to Paula's place. Betina thanks Lorena for giving her uncle another chance - even if only to be friends. She'd like them go to dinner and a movie with her - and her boyfriend. (Alonso's still sore that her boyfriend happens to be Ernesto's nephew.) Lorena is amused to hear that Ivan's her dance partner.

Bruno and Sara stop at his place for the gun. Sara notices some legal notice that was slipped under his door. She picks it up and puts it on the table. He takes the gun, and away they go.

Snorty tells Maruja that Jaime told her that she was at his side during the worst moments of his life. Maruja says how great he is. Snorty thinks she's a good influence on him. Snorty remembers that Maruja has a daughter, but admits she doesn't remember all of her employees. Maruja awkwardly mentions the problems the company's having now. Snorty says she doesn't expect to make all her money back, but she hopes to keep fighting for many more years. Maru and Jaime encourage her. Snorty says that's enough praise for now; she wants to get on with the reception plans.

Vasco is not so enthusiastic when Rossy and Julian tell him that their wedding reception will be at Snorty's. He doesn't want to go there. He agrees to be at the religious ceremony, but not the reception. Rossy says they'll have to pick another place. Vasco says he doesn't want his grandmother in the picture at all.

Bruno and Sara get to Icky's house. The windows are dark. First she hammers on the doorbell. Then she yells angrily from the sidewalk and tells them not to hide or she'll knock the door down. Then they try various phone numbers. She thinks Arturo's not picking up because he recognizes her phone number. (Hmm, she had the same problem with Alonso. What does that tell you, Sara? NOBODY LIKES YOU.) She calls him on Bruno's phone, and Icky answers. She says they won't leave until he gives back what he's stolen. He is highly amused to hear from her and says that the thief who robs a thief gets a hundred years' pardon. He taunts that he's far away - so far away that he's losing the signal. Ha ha! He says he'll have a drink in her honor.

Sara flips out, screeching to Bruno that Icky's fleeing the country and how is she going to get her money back?

Zulema and Omar are in bed. She's frosty and sarcastic about him getting home at a decent hour. She wants to have a serious talk. She tells him about the surgery. She says she hasn't decided yet, but it's an option. He is somewhat dismissive, thinking this is just about her thinking she's fat again. She says it's not just to look better, but also because her health could get worse if she doesn't lose weight. He just wants to know if it's expensive. He says that if it makes her feel better, she should do it, and he rolls over and turns off the light.

Is there an operation to make someone be less of an asshole?

Icky's house has another visitor: It's Jacqui. (Granted, she thinks she lives there.) She calls Icky and says she needs a set of keys. He says he and his mom are gone and they're never coming back. They're going to enjoy their lives, and he hopes the divine light of good fortune protects her now that she's left in the street!

Rossy tells her mother she's looking for another hairdo for the wedding. Maruja does not think that this is a good use of Rossy's free time. Rossy says she's quitting the restaurant; she doesn't feel needed there. She wants to work for her mother instead. And she's okay with Jaime now. (Ding! It's like magic.)

Sara sulks in bed. Bruno says he gave her a double dose of tranquilizer; she should sleep. She says she wants to die. She thanks him for letting her stay at his place. He gloats that she ended up living there after resisting him for so long. They'll have to split expenses, though, because he says he can't support her on his salary. She doesn't know how she can pay him. She had to leave her things at the old place because she had to leave without paying. He's willing to give her two weeks (quincena = fortnight) to come up with her share!

Knock knock. Is it a candygram? No, it's an eviction! Bruno owes a lot of money because Snorty never paid him. He admits to Sara that he received several notices. The boss eviction guy says they delivered the final notice yesterday. Bruno sees a glimmer of hope and says he never got it. Then dopey Sara says, "Oh, I picked that up" and takes it off the table and shows it to him. As the men begin taking his stuff away, he curses her because now he's homeless because of her too.

Jacqui is sleeping at the temple. Magda whispers to Efrain that doesn't want to have to keep her around just because he couldn't resist the urge to fool around with her. Magda thinks Jacqui's too crazy for them. "To her, all of this stupid 'Light' stuff is true," she says (just in case you weren't sure that this whole Divine Light of Good Fortune thing was a scam). Efrain is not ready to dump her yet, but Magda is getting impatient.

Jacqui wakes up and seems ready to jump his bones again.

Zulema and the family talk about the operation. Omar, Diana, and Lorena all think it sounds like a great idea. "Slim down and you'll look lovely, Mom!" Blech. Omar says "you've always been very pretty." Lorena says she'll be even more so plus her health will improve. (Second time in a row, at least, that they've acknowledged the health angle only after addressing the appearance issue.)

"I'm going to do it. I don't want to be less than other women," Zulema says pointedly in Omar's general direction. Omar looks uncomfortable.

Barb and Vasco jog into Maruja. Maruja is cautious at first, but Barb is open and friendly with her and wants to hear all about the wedding. Maruja thaws out and they have a nice talk. They are amazed at how different Snorty's become. Vasco tries to be polite.
Jaime has invited a Mrs. Galindo to help the sell the mansion. Snorty has the nurse show her around. Snorty and Jaime worry that they may have to sell the place for less than it's worth because they need to money fast. They'll also have to think about where they'll live. She's lived there all her life. She can't imagine living anywhere else.

Lorena and Zulema meet with Alonso at the clinic to arrange the surgery. Of course he thinks she's ideal for the surgery, but they need to do some tests first to make sure. They watch in rapt fascination as he picks up the phone and starts pushing buttons. (Just think how exciting this would be for the characters in FELS.)

Bruno and Sara seek lodging at a considerably less fancy section of town than they're used to. The landlady looks at this well-dressed couple suspiciously. Bruno says that someone (either an orderly or a janitor, whatever "afanador" means) told them she has a free room. This person was apparently the landlady's goddaughter. "She told me 1000 pesos," Bruno says. The landlady smirks and says she was mistaken - it's 1200. It went up. Ha-ha. They have no choice but to accept.

It's not as nice as the place Chalo used to have. Sara complains that it's filthy. "Take it or leave it," he says. She says she'd love to get out of there, but she can't. She swears a bloody revenge on those who have ruined her life.

After the commercial Sara tells Bruno and her reflection that she needs to cry, but it will be the last time. From now on it's vengeance that will sustain her. She swears vengeance on the entire family, possibly starting with Alonso whom they can use without arousing suspicion. This perks Bruno up.

Al is pleased that Lorena convinced her Ma to have the surgery, she'll have a better self image just like his first gastric bypass patient did. He's very proud of what he can do, it's his passion, he says rather dispassionately. Al, demonstrating he's not exactly a master of good timing, tells Lorena he loves her. Zuly shows up and is worried that she might somehow end up in Bruno's hands. Al assures her absolutely not. Hear anvils anyone?

Tori lurks outside Cat's house, he rings the bell, no answer. Que?

Bettina and Ivan are at dance class where they perform their routine. For a kid who didn't know how to dance he does a pretty good job. A couple of girls seem to be jealous of Bettina, they don't understand why the instructor picked her to dance, she's not that good. One girl thinks Ivan is hot and wants to figure out a way to dance with him. Instructor compliments our cute couple on their improvement.

Avon-Lady Paula runs into Raimundo. She starts to tell him about all that has happened recently, i.e. she's single again, but he answers he's in a bit of a rush, it was great to see her, later. She stares after him.

Regreta sticks her boobs in Omar's face and asks to see him tonight. Impossible, he replies. She tells Omar that she'll see Zuly at Maruja's wedding but don't worry (boob squeeze), she won't give anything away. Omar looks concerned, serves him right.

Julian tells Jaime to get ready, they're going to have a bachelor party (despedida de soltero = farewell to being single). Jaime's on the verge of being a wet blanket but Julian says it's his first marriage and no way is he going to walk down the aisle without partying down at his bachelor party.

Bettina and Ivan practice some more because he made a mistake and she almost fell. The mean girls watch the routine from outside the window. Bettina trips on nothing and sprains her ankle to the amusement of the wicked peepers. Uh oh, one of the little brats admits to putting talcum on the floor to make her slip!

Over at the clinic Al tells Bruto he's been looking for him, he shows him that he ordered new tests on Zulema. Bruto tells Al to butt out of his business with his mother in law. Lots of chest puffing, long story short, this scene allows Bruto to find out that Lorena is really Diana's sister. Al updates him on Sara's scam. I'll hand it to Bruto, he keeps his cool and answers what does he care about Sara and the Armendariz family? They can all go to the devil. Al shakes his finger and tells Bruto to respect Lor and her family. Bruto tells Al to be careful that the sister not end up an idiot like Diana or Al might have to slap her into shape. Al shakes Bruto and calls him a perfect idiot, he'll teach him how to behave himself like a real man. They argue and chest puff and Bruto says "You're a coward!" "No, you're a coward!" "No you are!", and so on. Bruto threatens Al and says one day he'll get knocked off his high horse. This endless cycle of insipid insults is ended when Al is called to an exam room.

The patient is Bettina and she wants to keep dancing for the competition but her ankle hurts badly. Ivan tells Al she fell hard. After Al's expert foot rotation examination he pronounces she won't be able to dance for several days. Poor kid, remember when you were young and you didn't get to do what you wanted most?

Bruto calls Sara to tell her that 'La Gorda' is in the clinic. Bruto tells her that she had the kind of tests one gets before an operation. He'll try to find out why she's in there and maybe they can use it to their advantage. This animates Sara, the sooner the better.

Torbi doesn't understand why Cat doesn't answer her phones. What's up?

Al arrives at Casa Pobre, he tells Lorena he's there to see Julian because they want to have the bachelor party at his house. He asks Lorena will there be only girls at the bachelorette party? Uh yeah, she says, except for the strippers, don't tell Jaime and Julian in case they get jealous. (The girls are going to have a stripper? Will it be El Intocable? Oh I hope I hope I hope!!!) Lor asks won't the guys have chicas who take off their clothes? Al looks confused.

Julian and Vasco show up with the beer. Julian makes Lorena promise not to tell Rossy there will be strippers or there will never be a wedding. Zuly is shocked to see the beer and Diana is all 'Mom, get real'.

Torbi and Bettina urge Paula to go the bacherlorette party.

Maru and Rosy have decorated their house in bright balloons for the party. Zuly, Lor and Diana show up and they all get some sort of party favor. Lor announces that all the night's activities must remain a secret or Julian might not step into the church. This sets off a round of shrieking. Regreta arrives and is introduced to Zuly, Diana and Lor. "Greta, you're the one who works with my husband, right?" asks Zuly. Regreta smiles like a vampire.

Regreta says she's happy to meet Zuly but tonight they are all single women. She says Omar speaks highly of Zuly and she's lucky to have a great guy like Omar. Witch. Time to drink.

Over in man land the guys are doing tequila shots and standing around a tub of beer.

Regreta, twirling a weenie (or maybe a shrimp) on a stick, sneers at Zuly and thought-bubbles, "Ay Fatso, if you only knew". This is to ensure that any tiny bit of sympathy we might have had for Greta has now been dashed upon the rocks.

Rossy starts dancing, opens the door and a stripper more or less dressed like a cop arrives. Then another, then hooray, El Intocable AKA Gaspar! Thank you Ferro for giving us your night!! Intocable turns on the music and announces the young bucks have arrived. I'll say. "Too many clothes!" the ladies yell as the boys do the bump and grind in unison.

Jaime tries to get the guys to smoke a cigar by explaining its significance to bachelors but Al keeps looking at his watch. Does he want to leave? No, Vasco says they have a surprise. Ding dong, a Stripper dressed more or LESS as a schoolgirl arrives and Julian diverts her to Jaime.

Over at Casa de Las Mujeres the three strippers, now only in their little tighties, entertain the ladies and a conga line is formed.

Back in man land Jaime and Julian are handcuffed while the schoolgirl dominatrix unbuttons their shirts and lap dances on them. Then she corners Al, who eludes her, then Vasco. She tries to peel off his shirt.

Final Stripper Tally:
Women - 3 plus extra bonus points for our beloved El Intocable
Men - 1

Bruto arrives to their "home" and tells Sara they're in luck, he found out that Al is going to do gastric bypass surgery on Zuly. Sara sneers, isn't that the one that makes you lose weight? She snickers ominously that anything can happen in the operating room.

Gaspar/El Intocable, rock on fluid hips...

Cuidado #21 Monday 10/20/08 Steffi tries to come to grips with the fact that Juan Miguel is slip-sliding away . . .

As your humble substitute recapper this evening, I give thanks that I do not have to recap this show regularly. Marichuy talks so fast and uses so much slang, it's really hard. Here's my best effort, and if anyone can fill in the gaps, it will be much appreciated.

First, my DVR picked up a lengthy overlap from Querida Enemiga, which I don't usually watch. I don't know who's getting married, but they're having dueling bachelor and bachelorette parties. In my mind, the girls' party won--there are at least six shirtless male strippers in Speedos.

Back to our lovebirds: Marichuy is trying to understand JM's relationship with Stefi. Are they really getting married? Does he love her?

We see a scene of Vivian driving away from the scene of the crime in her boat. She shouts Yes! Today I begin to live!

Inside the house, Stefi is gloating to Isa about how jealous Mari looked when he learned that JM and Stefi were "effectively" novios. "Effectively" is the operative word here, since he's just not that into her. Looking out the window, Isa says "not so fast. That naca is out there canoodling with JM in the garden."

Back in the garden, JM is telling Mari that of course he loves Stefi--he wouldn't marry her otherwise. Meanwhile, Mari gives him a recap of the whole Amador blindness fiasco, speaking way too quickly and using a lot of slang. Stalker Barbie sneaks up from behind and squeezes JM's arm a few times with a mi amor for good measure. She must think that if she says it enough times it will be true.

Amador comes to the theater, and Beatriz's friends read hiim the riot act.

Marichuy is at loose ends, so she throws rocks at a bottle.
Then she finds a cute white cat. Just then, Adrian comes by, and he offers to teach her. I'm missing a few details that may have been covered in previous episodes: 1) how did he get education? Has he been to university? 2) How come he is chosen to teach? Is he just volunteering himself, or did JM ask him to do it?

Now, everyone is at breakfast: Pat, Ceci, Stefi, Isa and JM. Stefi asks what JM was doing talking to Marichuy. I love the way she tries to keep her jealousy under wraps, but her phony smile doesn't really do the trick. Now Patricio says that Marichuy can't come to dinner because of her bad behavior. JM defends her--he says the events at the party were not her fault. Patricio thnks Amador got in to the party because Marichuy stole an invitation, but JM points out that she would never invite Amador because she hates him. Ceci saves the day when she drily points out that Amador is the grandson of the Robles. Oops.

Marichuy is still debating whether she should take lessons from Adrian, but she is swayed when she confirms that she will learn to speak like JM.

At the dinner table, Stefi orders the servants to give her "amor" more pasta. She's so happy that JM likes it, she's going to learn how to coook it herself tomorrow. That's if she can tear herself away from sliming all over him. Isa says it sounds like they're getting married really soon. JM squirms and says they'll discuss it later alone. Stefi walks him to the car and tries to push him to set a wedding date.

Back in Miami, Viv drives up to her hotel in a Jeep. She says in perfect English (no accent) that she's waiting for a call from Mr. Smith and asks the clerk if he called.

Meanwhile, Mari is eating in the kitchen, and Ceci seeks her out. Seems like Ceci prefers being with her there, and they settle in for a nice chat. Ceci persuades Marichuy to try being nice to Patricio instead of fighting all the time--maybe that will turn him around. Marichuy gives her a little salute. Now Ceci says the same thing to Patricio, and she gets him to agree not to be so inflexible with Marichuy. She hugs him and gives the same little salute behind his back.

Marichuy prepares breakfast for Patricio, including some soft-boiled eggs. She takes it out to the patio, and at first he doesn't want to eat it, so she takes it away, but he calls her back, saying he's in a hurry. She says she wouldn't be surprised that he didn't want to eat it--maybe he was afraid she was poisoning him. He seems to like it, but he won't say so.

Mayita has a sweet conversation with JM. He asks if she would like a new Mommy. She says that her real Mommy is coming back (according to Granny). But he says it's not true. In that case, she would like a new Mommy. He's great and all, but Mommies are different. She wants him to hurry up and get married to the new Mommy. Onelia overhears this conversation and is not happy.

Back to the Patio. Marichuy plops down in the chair next to Patricio and stirs his coffee and salts his eggs. She tells him about her new classes and how Adrian is her teacher. Patricio asks how Adrian could be her teacher--isn't he her boyfriend? I don't really understand the answer. She says not to worry--she'll only be there a short time--when JM gets married, she's going to live with him. Marichuy also goofs and calls Patricio "ruco," or old, then realizes her gaffe. She gets called away when her teacher comes, and Patricio sips his coffee with a smile. It seems he is thawing.

Patricio has a brief chat with Adrian. He says that Adrian should have asked him for permission first to give lessons. However, he has no intention of denying permission.

JM is driving in the car and talking on his Bluetooth. I think they're obnoxious, but at least he's utilizing safe hands-free phoning while driving. He's called a friend for an address. We soon see him disembark at Casa Amador. Amador is inside with a hideous wolf-like dog, who snarls at JM. JM wants to settle things. Amador says he didn't know that the cura locos was also a boxer. I missed something here, and I don't know how this conversation was resolved.

Marichuy is getting ready for her lessons with Adrian. She's happy because JM said she was smart, and she'd do well if she studied. Adrian doesn't like that she keeps mentioning JM. According to Padre Anselmo, JM is no saint.
They start the lesson. Adrian first makes her swear that she is going to study hard to become a cultured person.

Back in the house, another naca in sheep's clothing, or Stefi in a cheesy lavender polyester satin negligee, eats breakfast in bed. She certainly has become accustomed to the good life rather fast. Isabel lies in bed next to her, while Martirio spreads gossip. They seem to be relying on Martirio for a lot of information, but Steffi feels that Isabel is saying too much in return and tries to signal her to stop.

Adrian gives Marichuy a dictation assignment. He then corrects her. Her spelling and handwriting are those of a third grader. He then gives her a reading passage, and she struggles through it. He gives her some homework, consisting of rewriting the dictation passage 10 times correctly.

Isa and Stef plot further how they are going to get Marichuy out of the house for good.

Ceci prays to an imaginary statue and thanks the Virgin for bringing back her daughter. She also prays for Patricio to open his heart to Marichuy.

JM shows up at the house and asks for Marichuy, not Steffi. Ooops. He finds Marichuy completing her tarea out by a tree. She hides it, embarrassed, but he persuades her to show him. She has written his name 50 times! Flashback to when they met. Time for them to stare longingly while he caresses her hair. I don't think he's thinking about Steffi.

Cut to a scene of Vivian checking out of her hotel.

JM says she must love his name if she wrote it 50 times. He loves her name--Maria de Jesus. He hopes Jesus can free him of a weight he carries that keeps him from being happy. He asks her to pray for him. Uh-oh. Stalker Barbie is now looking on from between two tree branches. She has changed into a black dress and she doesn't look happy. Creepy music plays.

Back at the castle, Mayita is about to have a conversation with Dead Granny, but my DVR cut off.

El Cuerpo del Deseo, Friday, Oct. 17 - PJ/S gets his licks in

PJ/S is in Isabel's bedroom. She asks what he thinks about her. He says that he is attracted to her just as she is to him but he can control himself. She says that she detests him and he suggests again that she send him away. She can't and she apparently can't resist her temptation to have him again. But PJ/S says, "We're in your bedroom in front the picture of your first husband and we're cheating on your financé - I can't."

Then we have another lick - this time from him and he leaves.

Later PJ/S comes to see Isabel again when she is being fitted for the dress she will wear to be married to Andrés. Isabel says, "Do you like my dress?" PJ/S replies, "You'll look beautiful on your wedding day." On the way out, he adds, "Too bad it isn't as pretty as the dress you wore when you married PJ."

After he leaves, Isabel rips the dress and tells the dressmaker that she doesn't like it.

PJ/S is driving Rebeca and she starts going on and on about how old PJ was when he married Isabel. PJ/S stops the car and says that she is in the same situation. If she is so concerned about age, why is she going after him? It is more normal for an older man to marry a younger woman than for an older woman to marry someone young enough to be her son. He says that he is young enough to be Rebeca's son several times and she gets very upset.

PJ/S's plan to get Simón out of Consuelo's clutches works very well. Simón surprises Consuelo and Carmelo in bed together and stomps out. But Consuelo's ex-husband has been tipped off by Gaetana and he shows up after Simón and Carmelo have left. If he hurts or kills Consuelo, Simón could be blamed.

Vicky tells Antonio her idea that Salvador is PJ's illegitimate son. That is a good explanation and would cover why PJ/S speaks, looks and writes like PJ. Antonio is not so sure. He and Simón think PJ might have come back from the dead in Salvador's body.

Finally, Isabel tells Andrés that she doesn't think they should get married. The scenes for Monday's episode show that he isn't going to react too well to that suggestion.

Cuidado: Friday 10/17/08 - "Waiting at the Gate.......to Staring Out the Gate"

Marichuy waits at the gate and sees Juan Miguel bringing Estefania home. She witnesses them kissing (which is really her kissing him, not him kissing her…Ellos no se besaron. Ella lo besó, pero él no la besó.). Mari cries as she flashes back to the swaying (can’t really call it dancing) that she and JM did earlier at the party. As her kiss ends, Stef urges JM to call her and she is emphatic about how marvelous the night was for her, the best night of her life. He gives a half-hearted smile, but doesn’t reply in kind.

Viviana is in bed with that clepto-guy in Miami. She plans something (didn’t quite catch what she said and didn’t care to rewind). Anyway, the next scene shows her asleep and he gets up to rummage through her purse, finding some jewelry, but more importantly, he finds money. She “wakes up” (not sure if she was faking being asleep) and catches him. She reacts appropriately, she calls him a thief and demands he give her back her stuff or she’ll call the police. He tells her that he’s not giving it back and there is no way she’ll be calling the police. He smacks her and she falls back on the bed. She continues to argue and he hits her again and threatens to kill her.

Juan Miguel returns home and mutters to himself that he’s blocked the way for him and Mari to be together, it is done. In his thoughts, we see through flashbacks, that he pines for her. Meanwhile, through some more flashbacks, we see she it pining for him.

Mari wakes up in the morning to a hangover, she’s not liking the feeling. Doris, the maid, has waken her up and Mari spills some details of what she remembers happening the night before.

Isa and Stef gossip over what happened at the party the night before---Mari getting drunk and all that. Isa lets her niece know that she was the one who got Mari to drink so much champagne. They chuckle because they know that she’s got to be suffering from a massive hangover this morning. They decide to go add to her misery. When they find Mari they remind her of the “scene” she made last night, getting drunk, dancing like a fool, and causing a fight. Isa says there was some good that happened last night, Stef and Juan Miguel became novios, and soon they will marry. Mari says nothing and walks away. Isa comments about how pale Mari got when she heard the news, so they know it affected her. Stef says now more than ever, they need to get Mari out of the house.

Amador wakes up at Vicente’s place. He crashed there because he was drunk (I don’t care if the PSA is a good one, he could have driven drunk and been in an accident, I don’t think any of us would have minded). He tells Vicente that JM’s going to pay for fighting with him.

Patricio and Cecelia have breakfast. Cece urges her hubby to not say anything to Mari about what happened the night before. He says he doesn’t think he cannot not say anything, he wants her to leave their house. Cece doesn’t agree.

Mari stews in her room and pulls out her photo of JM and remembers again their “dancing” last night. She ends up ripping the photograph and Cuate wants to help. She has to take a piece of the photo out of Cuate’s mouth.

In Miami, Viv makes an icepack out of a towel and some hotel ice. She swears he’s going to pay. (Does anyone know his name? I never caught it, hence the constant use of pronouns).

Isa and Stef join Cece and Pat for breakfast. They two hags push for Pat to talk to Mari, but Cece says she’ll talk to her first.

Stef calls JM and invites him to come over to the house. He makes a lame excuse as to why he didn’t call her first, she can’t hear how lame it is, but we all can hear it. He agrees to head over there.

Cece goes to Mari’s room and sees the ripped photo on the floor and she asks why she did that. Mari says she no longer cares. Cece says that JM has done some nice things for her and that he defended her last night. Cece urges Mari to talk about how she really feels, but Mari says she can’t because you are her mother. Cece realizes that this must have more to do with Stef than Juan. Cece tells Mari she wants her to be happy and what she wants more for her than anything is to create a home of her own when she gets married. Mari insists that will never happen. Cece questions if Mari is jealous of Stef, which Mari denies. Cece ends their conversation with a pep talk about Juan Miguel. How he’s been good to Mari and that Mari needs to think before she reacts. Her parting words are for Mari to not toss the picture pieces, because JM’s been a good guy.

Cece goes and tells Pat about the conversation with Mari. She mentions that she thinks there is some “sibling” rivalry between Mari and Stef. Pat doesn’t care, because Stef is their daughter and Mari isn’t (you’ll eat those words someday old man).

We are treated to JM coming out of the shower with just a towel on….drool…..Mari calls him and asks if he’s now engaged to Stef. JM says that he’s a recent widow, but Mari needs to realize that someday he’ll get remarried. Mari takes that as a no, because it is too soon for him. JM does nothing to alter that thought process on her part. Mari asks him if he gets married, what does that mean for her and her future. He tells her that she should make hay while the sun shines and get an education while she’s got people helping her. Mari questions her intelligence and Juan says he knows she’s smart. He apparently wants to bring this conversation to an end (and also our chance to ogle him almost in the buff); he mentions that he’ll be heading over to the judges house later, and they’ll talk then.

Viv goes out, heads to Guns ‘R Us and purchases a shiny new handgun (Now here’s where we need a PSA, how about a background check before letting someone purchase a gun and also a wait/"cooling-off" period).

Isa worries that Mari’s going to tell Pat that she’s the one who was plying her with drinks the night before. Stef tells her aunt not to worry, there’s no way Pat will believe Mari over them. Isa asks Stef if Onelia knows about the engagement. Stef decides she better give the witch a call. She tells Onelia that she and her son-in-law got engaged the night before. Onelia seems most upset about being the last to find out the news, more than from the news itself.

Mari is gluing JM’s picture back together when Pat comes into the room for a talk. He does a lot of trying to correct her into using proper Spanish. He tells her that her speech is vulgar. Pat accuses her of inviting Amador to the party and look at the scene that was created. Mari says she didn’t invite him, but Pat wants none of her excuses. Pat then accuses Mari of being jealous of Stef. Mari says that Cece suggested that, but that’s not the case. Pat rants some more about how he thinks Mari tried to ruin the party on purpose.

Onelia stops JM on his way out of the castle. She wants to know how come he didn’t tell her about the engagement with Stef. Juan says he didn’t know before last night that they were going to get engaged and this is the first he’s seen her, so how could he tell her.

Viv goes back to the hotel and makes it seem as all is well with her abusive thief of a man. She says she’s going out and he asks if he can come along too. She agrees and they end up taking off on a boat (from “Back Country Fishing”, but I’m not sure they want the product placement advertisement, in light of what happens next). Once they are out to sea, Viv pulls out her gun and shoots him in the back. He turns toward her after the first shot and she shoots him again, in the chest. He falls overboard and Viv turns the boat around and heads back in, leaving his dying corpse to float at sea (but we ask ourselves, in true novela fashion, is he really dead if we don’t see him die? and even then, they can still can "pop" back up in the story).

Mari encounters JM and Stef in the foyer. Stef fusses over him and Mari is affected by the appearances of where their relationship has headed and Stef says that they are engaged. Mari heads outside and when he can break away, JM follows her. She is standing at the gate, looking out. He comes to stand next to her and Mari asks him if he’s really happy. He doesn’t answer. Once again, wanting confirmation from him, she asks if Stef is his girlfriend/fiancée. Are they getting married? He answers, “Yes.” END OF EPISODE.

Friday 10/17 QE. Honey, you need more than garlic and pepper to put flavor in Alonslow

Hi everybody!. The recap is now finished, and I want to thank Margarita Chilaquiles for her contribution. Since I wasn't feeling well I took the liberty of copying some of her recap and just adding a little more (What I copied from her is in blue). Thank you everybody for your patience and understanding.

Ernesto berates himself when he sees Lorena with Alonslow. Alonslow is very patient with Lorena and she thanks him for helping her to learn to drive.

Jaime tells Maruja that he told his mother that they are getting married and she doesn’t mind. Maruja can’t believe it. Jaime tells her that she even offered her house for the reception. Maruja thinks is a great idea, but Rosi is not happy. She says she doesn’t like the witch’s house and besides; have they forgotten about their guests? What are Zulema and Lorena going to say? Jaime reminds her that they forgave him and now they are all a big happy family. Zuleama says that she is going to float the idea by Zulema and see what she says. Rosi is offended that her opinion doesn’t count.

Sara calls Ickturo and tells him that Jacky threaten her to tell about the embezzlement. She yells at him and tells him that if she falls, he falls. She hangs the phone and tells to herself that she would love to disappear, but she has to get her revenge before leaving.

Lorena and Alonslow arrive at Alonslow’s house and Lorena offers to cook. ALonslow tells her that he doesn’t think he has all the ingredients. She tells him that she will send him to the store if she needs something. Alonslow accepts and Lorena goes into the kitchen.

Diana is talking to Zulema about Ernesto, she knows that he loves Lorena, and feels bad that Lorena can’t see it. Zulema tells her that it is Ernesto’s fault because he is a womanizer. Diana philosophies about men and their cheating ways, but then she reminds herself that there are good men like… Omar (if only you knew) Zulema agrees.

Lorena checks the kitchen and tells him that she will able to cook something. She remembers Ernesto and how they cooked together in Ernesto’s house. ALonslow notices that she is pensive and asks her if she needs something. She tells him that she needs pepper and garlic. He says he’ll go get it. Toribio shows up and tells her he was following his nose, he is very happy that she is there. He also tells her that always liked her for his son. Lorena asks if there have been many girls. He says no, he is not a womanizer.

(Part 2)--------------------------------

Ernesto talks to Jimenea. He tells her that he is not in the mood to go to the party with his coworkers because he saw Lorena with Alonslow. Jimena tells him that he can’t be moping all the time he needs to go out. She won’t take no for an answer, she hangs up.
Zulema notices that Omar’s shirt smells of woman perfume and makeup. She is now certain that Omar has another woman.

Speaking of the devil Greta comes into Omar’s office. Omar is worried about their relationship, he wants to define what is happening between them, but Greta tells him that he shouldn’t think. He should just feel.

Tiberio is very happy about Lorena’s cooking he is eager to taste “alta cocina” high cousine. The phone rings and is Clara asking Toribio why hasn’t he shown up for Tai Chi.

Magdalena comes to look for Jaqueline. Catalina opens the door and is rude to her. Jacky apologizes to Magdalena. She tells her that she came to thank her for Ickturo’s donation. Jacky tells her that it was dirty money, but Magdalena seems no to mind. She tells her that the money gets purify once it is dedicated to the divine light. Jacky tells Magdalena about Sara and the money she stole from Hortensia. Magdalena tells her to bring her by her house to help her see the light.

Toribio tells Clara that he is getting very flexible he can reach his feet…with his ears. Clara laughs at his joke and asks him to come to the class. She suspects that Catalina is not letting him come, when she asks him he changes the conversation.

Maruja asks Zulema if she would be willing to go to the wedding if it was celebrated at Hortensia’s. Zulema says that she doesn’t mind. Maruja doesn’t believe her because she looks moody. Zulema tells her that she is upset because of Omar and the shirt.

The phone rings again at Alonslow’s, this time is Hortensia looking for Lorena. She asks her to come as soon as possible.

Later Lorena arrives at Hortensia’s. She asked her to come because she wanted to know if Lorena is willing to testify against Sara. Lore says yes. Hortensia shows Lorena some jewels and tells her that she is giving them to her as her inheritance. Lorena doesn’t want to take them, and tells her that she doesn’t need them. All she wants from her is her love as her grandmother not her mother. She thanks her and leaves.

Maruja calls Paula and Greta into an emergency meeting and tells them that Zulema is almost sure that Omar has a lover. Maruja then tells Greta that that’s why she asked her to come. Big impactada face from Greta. Maruja then clarifies that all she wants is for Greta to check on Omar and find out who is the other woman (Talk about asking the fox to guard the hen house). Greta is very relieved that they don’t suspect her, and tells them that Omar is a Saint, he is only dedicated to his work; but Paula and Maruja believe that there is another woman and he sees her at work. Greta is nervous again.

Alonslow calls Lorena, and she tells him about Hortensia’s gift. Of course Alonslow is repeating aloud what Lorena is telling him. She tells him about Sara and how they are going to accuse her of trying to kill Hortensia. Bruto overhears and thinks that he has to let Sara know. Alonslow then changes the conversation and invites Lorena to dance (yes we know that they’ll go to the only club in the whole Mexico city and guess who else will be there)

Betina tells Ivan that they need to win the contest. She is already planning how to spend her money; she wants to buy her mother a trip to Thailand. Ivan tells her that he has a vague idea on what to do with his part.

Next we see that Lorena and Alonslow are dancing and Rosi and Julian are seating. Rosi is still upset because she doesn’t want the wedding at Hortensia’s house. They argue a little more. The camera pans out to the back and we see that Ernesto is just arriving with Jimena.

Bruto arrives to Sara’s hotel. She is upset and wants to know what he heard. He tells her that she (Sara) is being investigated. Sara says that nobody has any proof of what she did, but then she remembers about Jacky. Bruto asks her if there is something wrong. Sara snaps at him. Bruto gets upset and manhandles her, but Sara is not Diana and she tells him so and slaps him. This seems to calm him down because he just turns around and settles on the bed. Sara is surprised and asks him what he is doing. He tells her he is spending the night there.

Ernesto sees Lorena with Alonso and wants to leave at once, but Jimena tells him not to let her bother him. She wants to dance, but Ernensto is uncomfortable. Rosi sees Ernesto. He tells her it's not what she thinks and she says what she thinks doesn't matter and Lore doesn’t care 'cause she's happy and back with 'Slow. Ouch.

Bruto and Diana go to finalize the divorce and Vasco tags along. Bruto agrees to give her sole custody of the kid and says he never forgave her for getting pregnant on purpose ('cause his lack of a condom had nothing to do with it....) she tells him he's scum...you get the point. They agree they never want to see each other again.

Jacky talks to brother Efrain. She tells him that she can’t find somebody that she has been looking for. Brother Efrain tells her that maybe she is not meant to find this person. Jacky thinks that he is very wise and get very excited because he tells her that he’ll give her some of his knowledge. He also gets very excited but in a different way. He tells her to close her eyes; he is going to transfer some of his light. He moves his hands over her and Jacky feels chills, she says that she is feeling something so different so spiritual. Brother Efrain tells her that he is also feeling it. He kisses her and they end up in bed.

Ickturo and Sara meet and he talks her into laundering her portion of the loot by passing it to his account for a fee. She agrees and they do the transfer electronically and she closes her account. They then go to the bank together where he gets all the cash while Sara waits outside. He goes back outside and hails a cab. Sara tries to get in with him and he shoves her out. Then he goes back home and tells mom to come away with him, they have to pack ASAP.

Maruja tells Zulema that Greta hasn’t seen anything out of the ordinary and that she will keep an eye on him. Zulema is a little relieved.

Alonslow arrives to Lorena’s house; he came to talk to Zulema about the bariatric operation.
Ernesto tells Jimena that all he wants is for Lorena to be happy even if it sounds “cursi” corny. Jimena states the obvio, Ernesto really loves Lorena.

Sara tells Bruto she was just scammed out of millions. He's visibly impactado since she told him she was flat broke.

Fuego en la Sangre, 10/17/08: Fits, Snits and Crabi In the Pit Or, Where’s That White Rabbit and Those Funny Mushrooms When You Need Them?

[After watching this particular episodio, Hubby and I looked at each other and wondered what this one was supposed to be about. We remembered one of the Seinfeld episodes where George expressed the essence of the show so descriptively, “It’s about nothing.” Our apologies to Sr. Mejia regarding this capítulo, but….. So, for those of you who slept through it, and for those of you who wish you had, here we go.]

Feo is determined to get even with Gabi for even daring to question his (foolish and dishonorable) business decisions concerning the hacienda and his breaching of that sales contract they had with the local buyer. Rosendo has just said that water on their property is getting scarce now that the Robles-Reyes’ have full access and control of the Ojo de Agua springs. Feo suddenly has an idea of how to make Gabi pay and to get her out of the way permanently. He orders Rosendo to have the workers work around the clock to dig a well behind the hacienda. The men question how he knows that there could be water found there, but Feo shuts them up with one of his signature frenetic yell-fests and intimidation. Augie sneaks a peek through his Wonderland periscope and questions the odd night-time activities when he sees the men with their wheel barrow and shovels moving through the dark in the back field.

In the rain forest the next day, Juan finds Skinny Bones (ol’ Apolinar) trying to force a village girl to give him a roll in the hay and threatening to burn her parents’ fields down if she doesn’t. Juan takes a pole after him and warns him off her. As flashbacks of Mighty Mouse cartoons invade my brain, he warns Apolinar that if he tries this with anybody again he’ll see the creep is thrown out of the settlement. Not to be undone, the old perv grumbles to himself that if Juan tries that he’ll burn down his hut.

In the meantime, back at Hacienda de las Elizondo y del Escandon, Sofia comes rushing down the stairs spewing threats at her ex. She blasts Fernando with both barrels and warns him that she knows he attacked Rosario and if he dares try it again she’ll go herself to the police and file a report. He says if she does, then Rosario has more to lose than he does. Sofia barges ahead and warns him that she won’t put up with him trying to take advantage of her mother either. After a sickening description of his uber-passionate sexual relationship with her ma, Feo threatens to see that she and her sisters are thrown out of the hacienda if she doesn’t back off. She says he doesn’t frighten her and if it’s war he wants then it’s a war he gets and then storms out with her pride intact. (Yessss!) Feo grumbles to himself that they’ll just see who gets the last laugh.

It’s time for a bit of comic relief, I guess, so over at the Double R (Hacienda de los Robles-Reyes), Pablito explains to Quintina that he got in trouble at school for fighting because one of the kids was calling Juan a criminal for kidnapping Sofia’s baby. Her answer is to take him to the plaza and stand on the fountain screaming various things through a bullhorn in Juan’s defense.

We are shunted again to the jungle where Dra. Leonora Luscious-Lips is listening to Juan complain that somebody needs to do something to stop Apolinar from harassing all the women and girls in the settlement. She says people are just too scared to dare to cross him.

Back in Cd. Serdán, Sofia has gone to the sheriff to complain that he’s not doing enough to find her daughter. He says he’s sent out wanted posters to all the neighboring states and towns, but there still is no answer. Nobody’s seen or heard from Juan and nothing has come in about any sightings of her little girl. The sheriff suggests it may be time to consider that Juan might be dead or that perhaps somebody else carried off the little girl. Of course Sofia cannot imagine who, what, or why so this is not an option. She has a fit and denies that it’s even remotely possible.

Meanwhile, Feo pays a visit to our favorite corrupt physician, Dr. Matasanos, and bribes him at knife point to insure that when Gabi, who is due to suffer a nervous breakdown very soon arrives, he is to care for her but not to cure her.

Matasanos doesn’t disappoint. He counts his money as we fade to the next scene where Juan is inciting the people of the settlement to take action against Apolinar. He wants them to throw Skinny Bones out of the settlement before another one of their innocents is abused.

Apolinar, meanwhile, is one step ahead of Juan (not that that is so difficult to imagine). He gets some of his henchmen in the village to help him set a snare along the path Juan takes to the river. (Question 1: How many people use that trail to the river? Question 2: How does Skinny Bones know that Juan will be the only fool falling into that contraption? Question 3: Why is this telenovela written so crummy that we need to ask questions 1 and 2?)

Back at the Double E (Hacienda de las Elizondo y del Escandon), Feo figures the pit is deep enough and tells the men to stop digging. The men ask why since they still haven’t found water there yet. Feo has a fit of his own and chases them off, warning them not to come near it again until he tells them they can.

At the Double R, Capricho races off from the open corral apparently to go looking for Juan again as, unsurprisingly, he is instinctively brighter than the humans in this story and somehow realizes that Juan is in danger.

In town at Knickknacks R Us, Damian tells Sofia about Oscar and Franco’s visit complaining about the wanted posters he had put out. He also tells her that they asked about his intentions towards her and that he told them the truth: he is head over heels for her. He practically begs Sofia for a chance to show her he can make her happy if she’d only let him. Damian moves in for The Kiss… but we have a commercial.

After Uni pays its bills, Sofia breaks the spell and tells Damian that she cannot give him what he’s looking for and that she doesn’t want to hurt or mislead him. She doesn’t feel the same way he does and the only thing they really have in common is the painful loss of their children. (Ouch!) Sofia tells him that she has no interest in anybody or anything else, not even him. (Double ouch! I think it’s called deep depression and while Damian has had time to “move on” she has not.) Damian is put out and frustrated so he leaves.

At the same time, the principal/teacher of the school sends for Oscar and Franco. While waiting for the teacher to meet with them Oscar tells Franco how he overheard Sarita telling Jimena that she still loves Franco and though, at times, still wants to really hate him, she can’t. Franco is in seventh heaven. Oscar also confirms that nobody at the hacienda but him knows that Jimena has regained her senses. He warns Franco to be careful not to go around telling people this, either.

When the teacher finally arrives he informs Franco and Oscar that the school has expelled Pablito since he beat up a classmate. Oscar and Franco are elated that the little guy actually showed a bit of masculine spunk and laugh about boys being boys, but the teacher gives them (and us) a PSA about fighting not being the way to solve an argument, aka non-violent conflict resolution, i.e, “brains over brawn” (which is not always applicable when the result might well be the duping of the well-meaning into being led to the slaughter, but that is for another discussion).
===============
Damian returns home and takes out his frustrations with Sofia in the corral while training his horse.

Franco goes to Knickknacks R Us looking for Sarita but finds Eva instead and he asks her to do him a big favor, but only if she can avoid getting caught by Crabi.

Speaking of Crabi, she’s in her rose garden remembering El Coyote’s visit and his offer of assistance. (Sorry, but Coyote needs his head examined if he really is hot for this old broad who has to be at least 3 decades his senior.) Gabriela thinks to herself that it is always better to have two friends that might be able to help her in difficult and special circumstances. Some of the workmen come by to tell her that because they’ll be replacing some floor tiles at the front door she’ll have to use the rear door to go in and out of the main house for a while. As the men walk off, one of them says to the other that perhaps they should have mentioned the pit they dug in the back, but the other says nothing happens around there that she doesn’t know about or authorize first. (Guess that means Crabi is in for one hell of a big surprise soon.)

Upstairs in Sarita’s room Eva lays out the dress that Franco promised to buy for Sarita. She sees Bernardo’s hat and looks longingly at his photograph on the bed table. A bit later she visits his niche in the family mausoleum and cries. She asks his forgiveness for having allowed the Reyes’ in to carry out their vengeance against his daughters. She tells him it was her way of getting even with Gabi for taking away her daughter. Gabi just happens to show up at that very moment and she delights in tormenting Eva by sneering about it being too bad it went against Eva the way it did and that nobody gets the upper hand with the likes of Gabriela. Eva says it wasn’t really because Sofia has forgiven her.

Gabi mocks the both of them and says Sofia and Eva are both doomed to wander as long-suffering fools searching for their daughters but never being able to find them. That’s their punishment for daring to cross her. “Did you hear me?” Gabi asks Eva for emphasis. Eva asks Gabi then what her punishment will be for all the evil she’s done. “Dying alone, perhaps? Dying alone, pondering over your resentments and your hate, and needing help without anyone being able to give you any. Nobody! Did you hear me?”

Night falls and Sofia sits in her room remembering Juan’s riding into the hall on Capricho yelling that he was there for his woman and child. She is bitter to think that he apparently left and took only his child in the end, and that her suffering didn’t matter a whit to him.

Back in the jungle, Juan walks the path back from the river and steps into the snare. He hangs helplessly by one leg upside down while Apolinar smiles triumphantly in the shadows and watches. “There’ll be nothing left of him by morning after the wild animals swallow him,” he says walking away.

Later that night, Gabi is alone in her room. She takes off her wedding rings and gets into bed. She hears a noise at her rear window and goes outside to investigate and accidentally falls into the camouflaged pit. She becomes hysterical, crying and yelling that this is her worst nightmare come true. (I’m up for a Long Island tea and nix the sympathy.) Feo watches it all from his bedroom window and thinks that finally he has found a way that he can get rid of her. “Rest in peace, Gabriela. Rest in peace.” He goes to bed.

At the Double R, Eladio and Rigo tell Oscar and Franco how Capricho took off again and this time didn’t come back. They figure the horse went looking for Juan again and hope that perhaps he was able to find him this time, because it’s the first time the horse didn’t return home at the end of the day. Oscar says afterwards that he’s off to the hacienda for a nighttime “visit” with Jimena.

Meanwhile, back in the wild, the devoted doctora suspects that something has happened to Juan since he’s very late getting back with the water urns. Silvestre goes looking for him and finds Capricho there trying to “help” Juan, now unconscious, and still swinging upside down. (Dunno. I guess all the wild animals figured he was too tough to eat.) Silvestre cuts Juan down from the tree and throws him across Capricho’s back, and then heads back for Leonora’s hut.

Back in civilization, Sarita enters her bedroom and finds the dress from Franco. She remembers his telling her he’d buy it for her if she’d model it for him and she puts it on. Sofia walks in and finds out the dress came from Franco. Sarita admits she is still in love with Franco but feels guilty about it because of Juan’s kidnapping the baby. Sofia assures her that she won’t stop her from forgiving Franco and going back to him.

Outside, Gabi is still screaming for help. “It’s like a tomb! It’s like being buried alive! Help me! Fernando-o-o-o-o!!!!" (Yawn.) Inside, Sofia tells Sarita that she doesn’t want her two sisters sacrificing their happiness just to please her. Her problems with Juan are her own.

Meanwhile, Damian is sulking on his living room couch and thinking that without Sofia he is condemned to a life of loneliness and sadness. (Dami, consider yourself lucky!)

Back at Scandal Heights Sarita and Sofia continue their chat. Sarita doesn’t think Sofia should still love Juan nor be chained to his memory. She wants Sofia to forget him and consider Damian. Sofia admits that she can’t decide for sure whether she still loves Juan or not at this point. Sarita tells her to give Damian another chance. He’s in love with her and not exactly hard on the eyes so it shouldn’t be too difficult to love somebody like him. Sofia seems to be interested in taking her sister’s advice.

El Cuerpo del Deseo, - Thurs., Oct. 16 - Desire in the mud

I'm still behind but I know everyone wants to see the sex in the rain scene. On Wed., Isabel announced that she was marrying Andrés, Valeria went bananas when she found party guests playing on PJ's piano and it started to rain. PJ/S also told Rebeca that the only way she could get what she wanted was to buy him.

Ok, Thursday. It's still raining. Ángela asks PJ/S to drive Antonio to the university. Meanwhile Valeria has a high fever but the doctor can't come because it's raining. When PJ/S comes back from driving Antonio, Isabel is furious and fires him. Instead of going to the laundry room to change, PJ/S walks out into the rain, Isabel follows and passionate sex follows. So much for Valeria.

Walter goes out to look for Isabel but fortunately he doesn't find her.

After sex, the rain and all the clouds disappear immediately and the eternal full moon of Río Claro comes out.

Gaetana discovers Isabel's handiwork on PJ/S's back. PJ/S says that Isabel is dangerous and evil but he loves her and desires her anyway. He says that he will control and tame her.

Meanwhile, Ángela's lawyer is murdered. Presumably Andrés was responsible.

Isabel asks/orders PJ/S to report to her on what Ángela is up to. PJ/S says that spying isn't part of his job but he reluctantly agrees to do it.

Meanwhile, PJ/S is working to fix up everybody's lives at the Donoso house. He blackmails Walter into withdrawing an accusation against Vicky; he gets Ángela to agree to let him be her financial advisor and he initiates a plan to get Simón out of Consuelo's clutches. It also seems that Valeria may be coming out of her depression.
