Zorro, Tues, March 27, 2007: Esme has a bun in the oven and Diego pops the question to MA

Esme hides Renzo under her skirt [I’m sure he liked that!] to help him escape from Pizarro and his men. Renzo tells her about the failed plan to try and contact and then rescue Sara Kali. Renzo tells Esme that Miguel was captured. Esme tells Renzo that since she is Montero’s wife, she may be able to help Miguel. She tells Renzo that Montero might exact reprisals against the gypsy camp. Renzo seems to be surprised that Esme would betray her husband. Esme says that she has gypsy blood and will do whatever is necessary to free her mother.

Back in the prison, Sara Kali tells the old guy prisoner her story: once upon a time women were barred from inheriting the Spanish throne. However, this law was repealed. Sara’s mother became the heir to the Spanish throne but some men at the court were against her succeeding the throne and tried to kill her many times. Sara and her mother ran away to the gypsies to escape the assassins. Sara’s mother died defending the gypsies. Sara decided to make a claim the Spanish throne now held by her cousin. To get back into court circles, she married Fernando but when he found out about her plans, he put her in the mask and locked her up. [Why didn’t he kill her?] The old guy pretends that he believes her but really he thinks that the mask has driven her insane.

Maria Pia is running around in the woods looking for NN. Suddenly, she is grabbed from behind by a guy in a sombrero with a bandanna tied across his face. He drags her off. Meanwhile, the chubby nun-wannabee finds NN sitting under a tree and NN says that she was saved by an angel – a black angel. Chubby foolishly mentions how saintly Marie Pia is and NN runs off shrieking into the bushes.

Montero sends the cutest one of his guard to find Esme and bring her to him to sign some papers. Pizarro comes in and tells Montero about the gypsies and their plot. Montero and Pizarro don’t know what prisoner the gypsies were trying to communicate with. Pizarro is torturing Miguel on a rack to find this out. Montero and Pizarro guess that the message was intended for Sara Kali. Pizarro offers to go and destroy the gypsy camp but Montero fears interference from the Marquesa. Montero tells Pizarro to torture Miguel to death if necessary to get the information.

Esme drops Renzo off. In spite of the fact that he is being chased by soldiers and the whole gypsy camp is in danger, he has to take time to tell Esmeralda that he loves her even though he knows she doesn’t love him.

After the opening credits run, we see Zorro attack a convoy of soldiers that is apparently carrying money. [They carefully don’t show how Zorro could get close enough to a soldier to get his whip around the soldier’s legs without the rest of the soldiers apparently being able to see or stop him. Hey, it’s Zorro.] Although he incapacitates most of the soldiers, two of them ride after him.

Back in her carriage, Esme is recalling her last conversation with Diego. Up rides Zorro. He tries to make nice but Esme is dismissive. She continues on her way and Zorro is just standing around considering her attitude. All of a sudden, the two soldiers appear.

Alejandro and Almudena tell the Marquesa what happened with Diego and MA. The Marquesa is upset that that cad Montero has won again.

Montero finds Esme and chides her for not signing the annulment papers. Esme tells Montero that she is afraid of what Montero will do to Diego when the Marquesa leaves town. Montero says that she is right to be concerned. This business with the Marquesa has been the biggest humiliation of his career and once the Marquesa leaves town, Montero is going to reassert his power over the Governor, the de la Vegas and everyone else. Esme says, in that case, she refuses to sign the annulment papers and will stay married to Montero.

Sister Carola (the chubby nun-wannabee) returns to the church and tells Father Tomas that she found and then lost NN and has Maria Pia returned. Father Tomas says no, MP has not returned and they are concerned about what has happened to her.

Cut to Maria Pia tied up and blindfolded in a barn. In comes Fernando and tells her that he won’t let her become a nun. She tells him that he can’t make her love him by force and he responds that he won’t try. His men just won’t let her leave. If he can’t have her, God won’t have her either.

Diego returns to his perpetually moonlit Zorro cave. He tells Bernardo that this was one of Zorro’s most spectacular appearances but all he can do is think about Esme. Why didn’t he read her letter before he spoke to her? There is only one thing that he can do - go with his father to ask for MA’s hand in marriage.

Esme tells Almudena that she is not going to go through with the annulment of her marriage to Montero. Almudena says she is crazy – Montero is an evil bastard and he will exercise his rights to consummate the marriage. Esme says that he won’t touch her – because she is preggers with Diego’s baby! [Why she is so sure Montero wouldn’t do something precisely to harm the baby of his enemy, I don’t know.] Almudena is impactada. She doesn’t seem to be at all concerned that Esme has been screwing Diego without being married.

Cut to Fernando who is crushed that MA supposedly gave up her precious chastity to Diego in his house. He acknowledges that he left that part of his daughters’ upbringing to his sister. [Judging by her reaction to Esme’s pregnancy, Almudena did a pretty bad job on that score.] MA pleads with him to forgive her and promises to be a faithful, loyal wife to Diego and give her father lots of grandkids. Fernando does not seem moved.

Montero explains to the Marquesa that he tried to do what he was supposed to by annulling his marriage to Esme but she won’t sign the papers and so he is off the hook. The Marquesa tells him not to press his luck.

Sergeant Garcia tells Montero that Zorro attacked the convoy and stole the tax money. Montero orders that Garcia place a spy among the poor people to whom Zorro will be distributing the stolen money.

Father Tomas organizes a search party for Maria Pia and NN. The Cardinal tells him that he is going to write to the Vatican and recommend that the internado not be made into a convent. Father Tomas chews out the Cardinal about the sacrifices that the women have made to help the poor. Back in her barn, Maria Pia refuses to eat.

Alejandro and Diego come to the Governor’s house to do the right thing and have Diego ask for MA’s hand in marriage. For some reason, Olmos has a bright red wig on. Diego apologizes to MA for what happened and offers to restore her honor at the altar. MA accepts and Olmos is crushed but nobody is looking at him, of course.

For some reason, Almudena has to drag Esme to the incompetent barber surgeon to get a recommendation on a woman to examine Esme and confirm her pregnancy. [Why couldn’t she have asked Dolores about a midwife?] The doctor recommends the native healer – Eagle Feather.

Back at the Governor’s house, the engaged couple go off to set a date for the wedding and Fernando tells Alejandro that they used to be friends but now he feels that Alejandro doesn’t approve of him. Alejandro admits that he does not understand some of Fernando’s actions such as letting Montero torture Diego in prison and murdering Indians when he was a soldier. Fernando responds that his low opinion of Indians results from seeing his parents skinned alive by a band of Indians who attacked their hacienda when he was a child.

In the parlor, Diego tells MA that he is sure that she drugged his champagne but he has no proof. He is also sure that he never touched her.

Fernando tells Alejandro that this horrible experience caused him to attack Indians with extreme brutality. Maria Pia found out about it, refused to marry him and became a nun-wannabee. Fernando tells Alejandro that he will not permit Maria Pia to become a nun.

Eagle Feather does her examination, which involves touching Esme’s hand and her stomach through her dress and announces [I think – the broadcast went off for a second or two] that Esme is preggers and will have a boy.

Diego and MA exchange insults but MA tells Diego that Esme has refused the annulment of her marriage with Montero and suggests that the reason is that Esme and Montero have given each other pleasure. Of course, Diego believes this even though he just accused MA of lying to get him in a compromising situation.

Esme tells Almudena that she is going to free her mother with the help of the gypsies and then go to Spain and have her baby. Almudena says she is in danger from Montero exercising his marital rights. This time, Esme tells Almudena that she will refuse and if Montero discovers that she is preggers, she will flee. [Ten minutes ago, she told Almudena that Montero wouldn’t touch her if she was pregnant.] Almudena says that that the Marquesa will have to find a solution to Esme’s problem.

Uh oh. Cut to the Marquesa bidding Dolores farewell. Apparently, she is leaving without saying goodbye to her hosts but she has left them a gift.

Diego confronts his father about the annulment and Alejandro confirms that the Marquesa arranged it and subsequently Esme refused to go along. Alejandro tells Diego that MA has stayed with Montero because Diego broke her heart. Diego is impactado that he came so close to getting Esme only to lose her again.

In spite of being horribly tortured, Miguel has not revealed the name of the prisoner he and his buddies are trying to free.

His servant tells Fernando that Maria Pia won’t eat. Fernando tells himself that we will see which will last longer – her love for God or his love for her.

Esme is babbling about her child when Diego rides up. Almudena says that it is now or never to speak to Diego.
The credits roll.

Duelo de Pasiones - Tuesday 3/27 - In which Thelma tries to calm her raging hormones...with MURDER.

"Alina my love!" Emilio holds a wet and fallen Alina but he cannot revive her. He orders Orlando to ride ahead and have Vera prepare a bed for the unconscious Alina.

Thelma paces in her room and complains to her auntie that she feels responsible for Jose's death and it has brought out the worst in her. If she has to lie she'll lie, if she has to betray she'll betray, if she has to kill she'll kill. Thelma gets evil squinty snake eyes and auntie beats a hasty retreat.

A drenched Orlando enters and tells Thelma to look out the window. She flounces over in time to see Emilio carrying unconscious Alina on horseback. Thelma ain't happy and Orlando gets sarcastic, he says their "hero" had the nerve to cry "Alina mi amor" in front of him. Thelma swears she wants to kill that maldita Flor. Orlando is all "No way, if you get Emilio then I get Flor. You lift one finger against her and I'll blab about your adventure in the Devil's Cave!" Thelma scowls but agrees to help Orlando separate Emilio and Flor.

Emilio tells Vera to cover Flor with blankets and keep her warm until the Dr. arrives in the a.m. He sees the burn on Vera's arm and asks what happened. Vera's eyes dart nervously around the room.

Angel is, you guessed it, coughing. Sexy Nurse Susi tells him that his treatment is no longer working. (Did it ever work? I think not.) She advises him to return to Puebla to see a specialist and get new treatment. Stupid suicidal Angel says he'll never leave as long as Emilio stays in Escondidaville with Alina.

Vera lies to Emilio and says she burned herself, right Rosita? Rosita reluctantly agrees. Emilio tells her to watch Alina during the night and then buy some new clothes for her in the morning. It's about time Flor got some new duds.

Rosita tells Emilio she's glad that God touched his heart and that he cares for Flor. Flor loved him for a long time before he showed up in Escondidaville. She knows because Flor told her. "Flor loves you sir and she always has." Emilio actually smiles. Sort of.

Efigenio is guarding his cousin Arcadio. He asks Arcadio if pobre Jose was really the father of Alina. Arcadio says no, how could Efigenio think such a thing? Jose came here to get his woman, her name is...hmmm, he can't remember. Another guy takes Efigenio's place and he and Tonki stand guard.

Rosita tells Emilio over and over how Flor has always loved him. He says Flor tried to tell him the truth but he responded with scorn and reproachments. He strokes unconscious Flor and says things are going to change.

Mariana, Malena and Dr. Love are still in the funeral home. As Mariana weeps on her daughter's casket Dr. Love complains to Malena that Mariana said she wouldn't marry him. Malena says give her time, wait and see if that guy (Jose) returns, see how things go between them. Dr. Love might have a chance now that his puppet and Jose are dead. He needs to get rid of the bow-tie. Why does James Bond look smashing in a bow tie while Dr. Love looks like a doofus?

Emilio talks to unconscious Flor and kisses her cheek. He says he will seek her forgiveness.

Meanwhile, Thelma lounges in her slinky yellow robe trying to figure out a way to get Emilio back to Puebla. The only thing he's interested in is that damn Flor! She's got to do something. Angel coughs in the background. "Of course! Angel your dear brother, he's my solution," she smirks.

Fast forward through Emilio and unconscious Alina. Whoaaa...he has a fuzzy white fantasy that they are getting married. He gives her a gross lamprey wide-mouth bass kiss. Oh wait, no...It's Flor's dream. She mumbles his name. Bleh.

Rosita tends to Vera's bad burn and says she should have told Emilio the truth. The truth is always the best, that's why she told Vera about what happened to her. Vera curses Don Max. Rosita tells Vera it's worse than she thought, she's pregnant! Castulo walks around the corner and hears Rosita. He gets all mean-looking and says to himself that he did this to her. Vera exclaims to Rosita it's a tragedy, what will she do? Castulo interrupts to "grab some fruit" he says. Oh yeah, he's good at grabbing fruit all right. He totally checks Rosita out before leaving. Pig. Vera says she has never liked Castulo.

Emilio tells Orlando he needs his help. He has decided to separate from Thelma and he needs a good argument/reason for validating the divorce. Orlando is impactado.

Emilio says his marriage to Thelma is a nightmare and he needs to get out. Orlando asks has Emilio forgotten the small detail of The Child? Emilio says he'll give the kid his name (gee thanks dad) and Thelma money, whatever it takes to get rid of that albatross around his neck. Orlando says he'll help. Liar.

The storm rages on.

Elias sniffs and kisses Soledad's monogrammed hankie. The one that Blanca found. Do you remember Blanca, Asshat? He sighs, "If Alvaro didn't exist then maybe you and I...ah Soledad, why do I fantasize, you have always been an impossible dream."

Cut to a wet and crying Soledad. She remembers her last meeting with Elias. "Elias, how different my life would have been with you. You loved me a lot, maybe you still love me, but now my heart is dry and closed to love, I feel only infinite hate."

Cut to Don Odio, I mean Loco, recalling Thelma saying that Jose called Flor his daughter. He mutters that Soledad is a liar and Alina is not his daughter. He knows it so why does it hurt so much? Lightning strikes as he sheds a tear.

Orlando has set up camp in Thelma's room and he's drinking her booze. She's not happy to hear that Emilio wants to leave her to be with Flor. She tells Orlando that she has a plan, she'll go into Angel's room and...

Nurse Susi and Vera are in the kitchen preparing a tray for Angel. Orlando comes in, gets rid of Vera and asks Susi to make him a cup of coffee. Instead of telling him to pour his own damn coffee she's a nurse not his servant, she stupidly complies. When her back is turned he replaces Angel's large white pill with two tiny ones. Surely Nurse Susi will notice this sudden change in medication, won't she?

Orlando reports his successful pill swap to Thelma. She says they will help Angel sleep through the night while she does her dirty work. "What will we do if he dies?" asks Orlando, perhaps a little late in the game. "All the better, he's a hindrance" she answers, "and when Emilio has to arrange his funeral in Puebla where all their friends live...well, we will have succeeded."

The storm rages on.

Stupid Nurse Susi gives Angel the two tiny sedatives instead of his usual big pill. She doesn't notice the change in medication. I think her shirt is too tight and is cutting off the blood to her brain. She tells him she hopes he sleeps through the storm. Ha! After she leaves, Angel whispers that he hopes he dreams of Alina and that nothing will wake him. Be careful what you wish for sonny!

Rosita runs into Don Max in the hallway. He gets sleazy and lecherous and they have a scuffle. He insults Santos and she slaps him then runs away. He smirks and says her slap enchants him.

Luba crouches down under an overhanging rock. She was on her way home when the storm trapped her there. She sits in the dark looking sad and worried. She has that flashback where she is standing in front of a young man, she chants and pulls out her vial filled with green fairy liquid. She puts it to his lips and he drinks. Back in the present she says "Gaspar my son, I don't want anything bad to happen to you. I don't want them to find us alive, especially you." Huh? I don't get it.

Thelma sneaks into Angel's room, says "you must die," removes his blanket, unbuttons his shirt, and opens the window. "Until never little bro-in-law, rest in peace."

She reports to Orlando that part one of their plan is completed. Angel will die and Emilio will return to Puebla, far from Flor.

The next morning she slips into Angel's room and closes the window. She has not been found out. Satisfaction!!

Alina tells Vera that she doesn't believe Emilio did all those nice things for her the night before, he thinks she's the daughter of a foreman, same old same old blah blah blah. Vera tries to convince her but Alina remains stubborn.

Don Loco sleeps with Soledad by his side. She's not wet or covered with hay and she's sleeping with a lot of jewelry on. He wakes up and reaches for her...it was only a dream, a damn dream. His hair is perfectly coiffed (it looks like he has hair plugs!) and the bed isn't even wrinkled. Who sleeps like that? My honey holds a six-hour judo class in his sleep every night. That's probably not normal either. It's the opposite end of the normal spectrum.

Luba leaves her sheltered overhang and steps out into the morning light. She is impactada by the damage and many mudslides the storm caused to the hillsides. The Virgencita must have been really angry. Uh oh, she remembers Gaspar spent the night wounded and alone. She must see her son!

Arcadio swears to Emilio and the other soldiers the he and Jose only came back so Jose could find his woman for his daughter's sake. Emilio asks if Alina is Jose's daughter. Arcadio says no, Jose's daughter lives in Mexico City. Orlando says Arcadio is lying, Thelma heard Jose call Alina "hija." They decide to let Arcadio go as they have no proof against him.

Thelma is on cloud nine and tells auntie they'll be going back to Puebla in no time. She has even started packing. "Don't tell me that you..?"asks auntie, horrified. "No no, I'm no assassin," Thelma says, "I just helped him along, he was practically dead anyway."

Oh dear, tragic music plays and we are at Marianita's burial. Mariana is hysterical and tries to jump into the open grave but Dr. Love and Malena hold her back. Juanito throws a flower and fistful of dirt into the hole. Mariana howls at God, "Why? Why?"

Alina has bathed and is fresh as a flower (heh heh). Vera arrives with some bags of new clothes and shoes. Thank goodness, I loathed Flor's ribboned wedgies...so impractical for roaming about the countryside.

When Luba gets home she's relieved to see Gaspar sitting at the table, his pecs bulging over his bandaged chest. (OK, I was relieved about that last part.) He's pouting because she didn't come home the night before. He was worried about her. She lights up a doobie and tells him she was at the hacienda and got caught in the rain on her way home. Gaspar says the patron should have put her up for the night. Bad patron! They're all bad! Luba takes a toke and asks Gaspar who shot him. "An ungrateful soldier, Ma. If it weren't for me the whirlpool would have swallowed him. I saved him and he tried to kill me."

Luba tells Gaspar to stay away from La Rinconada and to forget "that woman." Gaspar says he's not going to forget his child, and when it's born he's going to take it away. "Virgencita help me," she sighs,"those ideas are going to get you killed. If you die I'm going with you." This agitates Gaspar, "No ma, I don't want anything to happen to you," he caresses her face and kisses her forehead, "if you die I'll die."

Emilio and Orlando are discussing Jose-Gomez-Alina's-dad-yes-or-no when Nurse Susi rushes downstairs. Something is wrong with Angel!!

Mariana cries over Marianita's teddy bear and yells at God some more.

Angel is practically coughing his guts out. Orlando, Emilio, Thelma and Nurse Susi stand around and watch Angel gasp for air. Nurse Susi is a stone fox but she is the worst nurse ever.

Don Loco and Don Max encounter one another on the road. Max says Loco's going to La Rinconada, right? And he's not going for any good reason, only to start something with Emilio, right? Loco can't believe Max would defend Emilio. "Hey, he's my blood and I don't want to become a traitor to my own people," says Max. Loco says chill out, he only wants to verify that they have the girl under control. They do some more chest puffing and Loco rides off toward La Rinconada. Max glares after him and says "It's too late to start distrusting me Alvaro. It was I who fed the jealousy that poisoned your calm and destroyed your life."

Alina, looking good with combed and curled hair, worries about Tonki. Vera promises he is well-cared for. Jaime enters to tell them that young master Angel is dying!

Alina rushes to Angel's bedside. He wheezes while she weeps "don't die, don't die."

Emilio paces while waiting for the doc. He tells Orlando he blames himself for Angel's illness. Thelma stalks in and shrieks "Don't blame yourself, if anyone is to blame it's Flor!" They have words. Boring repetitive ones.

The doc arrives and he and Emilio run upstairs. Thelma bares her lower teeth to Orlando.

"Save him doctor!" begs Alina. The doc kicks them all out except Useless Nurse Susi who will aid in the examination.

Cut to scenes of local people who were displaced by the storm. The soldiers are feeding them and hauling emergency supplies. Many people are dirty, injured and crying, but the soldiers will see them through this tragedy. This scene brought to you courtesy of the Mexican national army.

Arcadio tells Efigenio he plans to leave Escondidaville and go to Mexico City because this place makes him crazy. I'm thinking he'll run into Mariana, why else would they have this scene?

Thelma tries, again, to turn Emilio against Flor by blaming her for Angel's illness. Emilio shakes his head and walks out. Thelma is annoyed and looks like she wants to kill someone. Of course she will, the only questions are who and when.

Don Max rides up and Auntie Opera tells him that Angel is deathly ill. Don Max snaps that Angel should be in Puebla, tell Thelma to convince Emilio that they should all return to Puebla right away! He stalks off and auntie comments that it seems like Don Max wants to get rid of his nephews ASAP. Why?

Mariana sees a ghostly vision of Marianita on her little bed. Marianita tells her mami not to cry, she's fine, she has her hair, she doesn't want mami to be sad. Mariana reaches out to her daughter's ghostly hand but touches nothing. She cries out what will she do without her princess, her angel, her baby?

The doctor tells Emilio that Angel is very sick, he doesn't think he'll survive the crisis. Emilio begs him, "please tell me you're wrong!" The doc says he can only hope he's mistaken, and God knows it's his greatest hope to free Angel from death's grip, but the truth is the truth, and as hard as it is he must tell the truth...Angel is beyond hope. Surely Emilio is impactado, but he looks the same as always.

Destilando Amor - March 27, 2007

* Rodrigo is on his horse and asking Gaviota to lower her voice as she sings and chants in the fields, it disturbs his mom at the house. Hilario rides up and tells Rodrigo his assistance is needed elsewhere and then rides away. Rodrigo, before leaving, says Thank you to Gaviota for the flowers she put on Don Amador's coffin at the church (they were from her mom and her).

* Later, Roman and the guys stop by and give the field workers a water break. One of the guys tries to pick up Gaviota (Gavi) - Gavi will have none of it and pushes him, knocking him down on the ground. The group laughs at the man on the ground.

* The entire family gathers in the office for the reading of the will. After Nestor says that Felipe inherits the lands and Bruno gets the business interests; Sofia is irritated when only Rod and Aaron are included in the inheritance, not her or her sister. Don Amador has made a contest of the inheritance - whichever grandson has a son first will become the sole heir to the family estate (properties, finances and business). At the end of the will, Nestor reads Don Amador's explanation why Sofia and Daniela (Dani) aren't included in the contest. Nestor finishes explaining a few extra points from the written testament and Bruno asks about the long time period stipulated in the will, Nestor answers briefly and then leaves. Aaron asks Abuela Pilar some questions he has.

* Gavi takes a break with her mom Clara in the fields. Gavi tells her mom how enchanted she is will Rodrigo (Rod).

* Aaron and Minerva (Minnie) have drinks alone and discuss how sure he is that he will be the winner and become the sole heir. Minerva after listening to Aaron, is so happy she kisses him.

* Felipe and Constanza are in the living room discussing the will - she's worried. Rod comes in as Constanza leaves. Felipe and Rod start to talk - Rod assures his dad that as soon as he finishes his studies in London, he will return to work side by side with him at the hacienda.

* Aaron explains to Minerva that Rod loves the ladies but he has problems with sexual intimacy.

* The family gather at the front hall near the stairs to say good-bye to Fedra, Patricio, Bruno and Aaron before they leave. Sofia stops Minnie on the stairs and tells her about James, her boyfriend in Britain. Minnie congratulates her and then asks Sofia to keep an eye on Aaron in England for her; she tells Sofia that Aaron plans to marry her when he returns. Minnie leaves. Sofia sits on the stairs with her siblings Rod and Dani and tells them about Aaron's plans to marry Minnie. They laugh at the thought. Sofia mentions to Rod that he should get married and have a child to beat Aaron to the inheritance. Rod just stares at her.

* While, Pilar, Constanza and Rod are on the patio watching the telenovela, Clara and Gavi hide in the bushes and quietly whisper while also watching the telenovela. Gavi and Clara stand up and knock over a plant. Pilar asks who's there? Rod goes to find out. Rod finds Gavi and Clara on the patio near the plants - they apologize - he tells them to leave, he will explain everything to his abuela. As they sneak back down the trail to their cabin, Pilar wonders who they are and why they are near the mansion - Rod calmly explains that they love watching the telenovela also.

* Alone in the living room, Sofia gives her opinion to Dani about why Aaron wants to marry Minnie (to get the inheritance). Sofia is disgusted and tries to convince Dani to help with her plan. Dani refuses to go along with the manipulation scheme on her brother. Dani tells her sister that there's more to life than money and leaves.

* Gavi and Clara are in their cabin discussing someone who is poorer than they are when there's a knock at the door. Rod has come by with a gift - a small television so they can enjoy the telenovelas without having to sneak up to the mansion and disturb his abuela. As Clara checks out the television, Gavi thanks Rod for the television and says goodnight. Clara is focused on watching the telenovelas and quickly says goodnight without turning around to see Rod. When Rod leaves, Gavi closes the door and is enchanted.

* Sofia wakes Dani up from a deep sleep. James just called - she needs back-up support to go to the airport to pick him up. Sofia is very nervous and panics about her family's reaction when they meet him.

* Workers in the fields - Clara runs up to Gavi and tells her that the television Rod gave them last night is gone! Someone stole it. Gavi asks if there were any clues left by the person - Clara is still upset - Gavi looks in the bed of the truck and sees her sarape, lifts it up and finds the television. Gavi finds the culprit in the truck. It's the guy she shoved the other day. He stole the television. He picks up the television from the truck bed and, instead of handing it to her, he drops it on the ground. Gavi is so angry; she head butts him in the stomach. He falls on the ground and she starts beating him up. Rod rides up and pulls Gavi off the man; he holds her close to break it up.

* Sofia and Dani are at the airport and welcome James to Guadalajara, Mexico - they get into the car.

* Even with Rod holding her back, Gavi still tries to throw some punches at the man. Gavi is still furious and mentions she needs a shot of tequila. Rod hears this and smiles (he has an idea). Clara warns Gavi about what happens whenever she drinks too much - Rod offers to accompany her into town for tequila - she agrees only if she can pay.

* At the cafe in town, Gavi tells Rod all the places she's worked and lived in Mexico. She asks Rod about where he's lived - Rod tells her that he will soon be leaving to return to his studies in London. She is curious and fascinated about London, and he creatively explains where London is located. They toast Abuela Pilar and drink.

* James is with Abuela Pilar, Felipe, Constanza, Dani and Sofia in the family room - James is using his expertise as a smellier to taste the tequila - he concludes it is exquisite. As the family starts to ask James questions about his relationship with Sofia, he mentions that they live together in London; Dani and Sofia panic and pull James out of the room quickly. Abuela Pilar tells Felipe, well, he is a friend of Rod's, and then asks where is Rod? Felipe wonders the same thing.

* Rod and Gavi are still drinking tequila and talking at the town cafe. As Rod stands up and tries to pay for the drinks, Gavi stops him and insists on paying the tab herself. They leave to return to the hacienda.

* That night, Rod walks Gavi through the fields to her and her mom's cabin. Gavi tells him her name is "Teresa," and her nickname is "Gaviota". She tells him everything she knows about him and his family. They stop - Rod looks deep into her eyes as she tries to continue talking. She stops - he leans in and kisses her. Gavi runs away - Rod chases her and stops her in order to apologize for the kiss. She's offended and kicks him. He shouts "Gaviota" as she runs into the cabin.

* Inside the cabin, Clara finishes her prayers for protection for Gavi. Gavi enters and tells mom about Rodrigo.

* Minnie calls her best bud, Isadora, who is in her gold bikini by the pool. Minnie tells Isadora about her engagement to Aaron - Isadora congratulates her friend.

* Meanwhile, Aaron is having sex with another woman.

* Family dinner at the mansion - James, Sofia, Felipe, Abuela Pilar, Constanza and Dani all sit down and start talking with James. Rod appears and is surprised and excited to see his friend again. Rod joins the family for dinner.

* Clara and Gavi walk with the workers to the fields. Clara and Gavi discuss telenovelas and Gavi has romantic notions and asks Clara if what happens in the telenovelas could also happen in real life - Clara tells Gavi about their patrones (Don Amador and Dona Pilar) as well as Rod. Gavi is encantado (enchanted).

* Rod and James walk through the doorway to the car. As they climb inside Rod's Chevy alpine pick-up truck, James tells Rod about Sofia's attitude towards him coming to Mexico.

* As they work in the fields, Gavi starts to daydream about Rod - Clara stops and presses Gavi to tell her what happened last night with Rod - Gavi says he kissed her.

* On the hillside overlooking the fields, Rod explains to James the agave plants, the nearby towns, and the tequila industry in Mexico. James asks to go to a cantina - Rod doesn't think they can; they have to return to the mansion to be with Sofia and the family. When James promises to spend all the next day with the family, Rod agrees to take him to the cantina.

*Sofia paces the floor of the patio as Abuela Pilar, Constanza and Dani sit on the sofa and chair nearby. Abuela and Constanza try to calm Sofia down by asking her about her relationship with James. Sofia answers. Dani gives her opinions and then tells them about Aaron's plan to marry Minnie. Sofia mentions to her mom her idea of manipulating Rod to get married and beat Aaron to the inheritance. Pilar and Constanza are shocked and bewildered.

* Roman, Clara and Gavi are seated at a table at the cantina. Rod and James enter and join them. Clara tries to excuse herself and her daughter and leave. Rod insists that they stay. Clara isn't sure they should. Rod asks for Gavi to stay; Gavi asks her mom for permission. Clara permits Gavi to stay, with the assurance of Roman. Clara leaves.

* Clara stops by the church to pray for Gavi and Rod - Clara hopes that when Rod leaves, Gavi will forget all about him.

* At the cantina, the foursome are still doing tequila shots and talking. Gavi hears the mariachi music playing and ushers Rod out on the dance floor. As they bop to the mariachi beat, Rod and Gavi talk. Roman leaves and James follows him. As the music stops, Rod has his arm around her waist and tries to kiss her. The music starts again. Gavi breaks free and stands near the band. She starts to serenade him with a mariachi love song. He thinks to himself, how enchanted with her he is.

Gaviota: the Mexican Molly Picon!

Tonight, watching Gaviota's odious and unconvincing skipping among the agave bushes (as she tries to convince us she's a lively young thing), I thought of Molly Picon, especially her ridiculous movie Mamele (means "little mother" - she was the youngest daughter taking care of a bunch of ungrateful lazy siblings) and googled this up for you.

There was no plastic surgery back then - on the other hand, cameras were not as unforgiving as they are now...

Excerpts from
Molly Picon (1898-1992)

With her geneyvishe oygn [mischievous eyes], dark bob, and endearing acrobatics, she won hearts ...

For much of her career, her forte was the adorable waif, often a motherless boy, who, with naive gumption, a charming display of tears, laughter, somersaults, splits, songs, cartwheels, and musical instruments, accompanied by an occasional farm animal and good luck, managed to make it in the adult world.

She seemed simultaneously all-American in her winsome tomboy persona, the irresistible scamp.

In Mamele (1938), a comic melodrama from a play by Meyer Schwartz, Picon, over forty, played Khavtski, an energetic twelve-year-old gamin who cares for her widowed father and six siblings. This was the last Jewish film made in Poland before the Nazi onslaught.

La Fea Más Bella #240 3/27/07 In which I realize that Aldo will always be Aiden Shaw and Fernando is Mr. Big.

Carla asks Fernando about the expo and Lety. He says that they both are perfect. Fernando turns to leave, but Carloca (Did I spell that right?) pulls him back. She asks if they are friends. He confirms that they are to Carloca and the two door people. Fernando and Carla share a moment of song and then head toward the expo.

At Conceptos, Alicia pretends that she was going to wait for Marcia to go to the expo. Tomas reluctantly leaves, his head hanging. Marcia obviously doesn't believe Alicia's game. She can't believe that Alicia was really going to the expo with Tomas. Alicia explains that Tomas was going to take her in "her" car. As if the bra-less outfit wasn't unattractive enough, Marcia contorts her face into some hideous form and says, "Your, car?!" Alicia blames it all on Tomas buying the lawyers. Marcia moves on and asks for her SUV. Alicia says that it's at her house because she doesn't have money to put gas into it. Marcia asks if this means that Alicia was planning on returning the car without gas. Alicia can't talk her way out of this so she talks about the "grave" problem. (Meaning Carloca) Marcia agrees and asks Alicia to accompany her to the bathroom to change. Before they leave, Alicia decides to lighten Marcia's mood by saying. "I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I think that you are about to be ousted again."

Irmita and Luigi debate the state of Conceptos. She thinks it's starting to shine. He thinks it's all about the platypus (Lety). Fernando enters the room. Yey! Vocab Lesson! Luigi calls Fernando a Guarrachon. I think he's playing on the word guarra which is used frequently in Spain to indicate someone who is very sexually active. A simpler way to explain it is Luigi is calling him a slut. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.) The next thing Luigi calls Fernando is "el macho reproductor" the manly reproducer (instead of producer), so I'm almost sure that's what he meant when he said guarrachon.

Anyway, back to the show! Fernando asks Luigi if he (Fernando) may speak alone with Luigi. Luigi thinks he's talking to the ladies and says not to be a long time. Fernando corrects Luigi, saying he (Fernando) wants to talk with him (Luigi). Fernando realizes he's not getting anywhere with Luigi so he asks Irmita to remove the dancers and give he and Luigi a moment alone. Irmita rushes the women out of the room. Luigi defiantly sits in one of the chairs and says that they really don't have anything to talk about. Fernando doesn't waste time. He pulls Luigi out of the chair and immediately asks why Luigi changed the direction for the book delivery. Luigi accuses Fernando of spying but Fernando says it was impossible not to listen considering how loud Luigi talked on the phone. Luigi half admits that he changed the address. At least the address was still in the same district! He accuses Fernando of turning into "Super Fernando to the rescue." Fernando scoffs. Luigi thinks that Fernando is about to unleash and he backs away and hisses at Fernando. Fernando whispers the word "speak" at Lunge. Luigi thinks this means that Fernando is about to hit him. Luigi turns and confesses to Fernando that he(Luigi) is in love with Aldo. Fernando doesn't react at all. Luigi now says that he's very much in love with Aldo. Fernando feigns understanding. Luigi goes on and says he found out that Aldo is in love with the most horrifying woman ever! How could a man be so stupid to fall in love with such an ugly woman? Fernando give Luigi one ugly look. Luigi, who is apparently more intuitive than every one else on the show, conjectures that this look means that Fernando is also in love with Lety. Fernando challenges Luigi by saying "Yes, I'm also in love with Lety. So what?" Luigi sits, stands, sits, stands. He cannot believe it. He thinks that Lety must have done this with witchcraft, because what does could she possibly have. Fernando does some gestures, trying to think of how to explain it. His final answer, what does Lety have? "Things." Luigi now stalks Fernando and says that he's going to make sure that the expo is a failure. Fernando walks straight toward Luigi and asks if Luigi is crazy. Luigi backs down and says he was just reacting; he can't believe that two very good looking men could...this only happens in the novelas! Fernando takes two steps back and pretends that he was just joking when he said he was in love with Lety. This relieves Luigi. Before Luigi can leave the room, Fernando asks Luigi to leave Lety alone, because she's the president of Conceptos!

In the showroom area, Anais interviews a very nervous Lety. Lety attempts to explain the goals of the expo and the campaign. At first her eye twitches and she looks nervous, but she eventually calms. Lety calls her mom to come over to the interview. Lety presents her mother and tells Anais that Julieta helped with the recipes and the mole. Erasmo catches the fever and he steps in front of the camera to say hello to all of Mexico and especially his uncle Lazaro.

Aldo catches Caro and Lety taking some photos. He rushes over to Lety to kiss her on the cheek to thank her for everything she's done for him. They all talk about the success of the event. Tomas walks into this scene with a sad look on his face. Lety and Aldo try to cheer him up, but he's depressed about love. He wanted to bring Alicia. Aldo asks for her. Tomas pulls out his photo of Alicia and says that is all he brought because the real thing wanted to send him to the devil and left him all alone, sad and grief-stricken. Aldo tries to assure Tomas that there will be better times. Tomas says that Aldo can sympathize because he know what it's like to have love that is not corresponded. Lety nervously laughs. She and Aldo slap Tomas on the back.

OH MY GOD! Darth Teresita is gone and in her place is Bozo the Mendiola! Humberto and Teresita greet Lety. They congratulate her on the success. Ariel stands with the Mendiolas. Lety introduces Aldo. Ariel says some stupid line about not liking people who smiled, but that he now does because everyone seems happier. (Huh?) Humberto comes forward and personally greets Aldo, who gives the credit for the expo to Lety. Caro steps forward and says hi to all the Mendiolas. Ariel complains about no longer owning the company. Humberto hushes him and congratulates Lety for the expo's success.

Lety walks over to the cuartel to talk, but everyone is distracted by the presence of Fernando and Carloca. The cuartel comments about Carla and Fernando. They abandon Lety, forcing her to say hi. Luckily, Anais enters and says hello to Carloca. They are old friends. Re-hash about the expo. Anais gives a brief history to Carloca about Lety meeting Aldo in Acapulco. Fernando turns to leave, but returns. Aldo and Fausto watch in the background. Carla hears more of the story and she excitedly talks about Acapulco and how romance of that location. Irmita rushes over to the group to steal Lety. After Lety leaves, Fernando grabs Anais's hands and asks if she likes Acapulco. Yup, and so does Carloca. Next Fernando asks if Anais likes Aldo. Oh, she just loves him. “Brilliant! Brilliant!" Fernando responds. He excuses himself and asks Anais to take charge of Carla for a moment. Anais and Carloca leave; Fernando rushes to somewhere.

In the lounge, Aldo and Fausto pause for a moment. Aldo explains that it bothers him to see Fernando around Lety. Aldo knows that Fernando is still in love with Lety, but he can never show. Now, he's parading around his new "love", Carla. Fausto thinks this is a sign that Fernando is trying to make Lety jealous. Aldo doesn't think that Lety will ever fall for Fernando's games a second time. (Brave words, considering this is novelaland. That's usually the kiss of death!)

Luigi prepares the models for the show. Irmita enters the room with Lety. Lety asks Luigi why he wanted to see her. He makes some mean spirited jokes about her appearance saying that he didn't really want to "see" her. Luigi starts out saying he cannot believe it, but changes his mind about that approach and asks Lety if she's going to give the opening speech. Luigi cruelly explains that he doesn't think that Lety should stand in front of all those businessmen and the international press because she'll give them a heart attack. Lety sarcastically thanks him and leaves. Irmita pulls Luigi aside but he justifies his comments because of his disdain for Lety. He thinks to himself about what he can do to get to Lety.

Fernando catches Lety rushing down the hall. He asks her if it's a problem with Luigi. She says that Fernando made her mad with the whole thing with the books. Fernando starts to explain that the books were not his fault, but Lety doesn't want to let him into her space. He backs up and notices that he ran into a picture. He tries to fix it, but it's a little cockeyed. Lety realizes that it was Fernando who moved the Monster Lady Parts Seashell of Doom painting, but Fernando doesn’t catch on to her comment about the painting. Fernando explains that he did not change the address for the books. Lety takes this to mean that Omar did it. Fernando says it wasn't Omar either, and in fact they saved the books. Fernando asks for a moment to speak with Lety. She reluctantly agrees. They walk different directions and then end up in the same lounge where Fausto and Aldo talked earlier.

Aldo stands in the background and watches the discussion between Fernando and Lety. She explains all the mean things that Luigi said to her. Fernando tells Lety not to pay Luigi any attention, because she's going to do the speech. Lety says she's not so sure she should. Fernando says that she's the president, so she has to stand in front of the businessmen and the press. Lety replies that the company isn't really hers. It's hers for political and legal reasons only. Fernando says that Lety is the president of Conceptos because she deserves to be. Lety and Aldo are impactado.

Fernando and Lety continue to talk. Fernando tells Lety that she's helped come up with great new ideas. This whole campaign is hers. She protests by saying she's an economist, not a public speaker. Fernando replies that all those people want to see Lety speak because they want to hear about her campaign and because the want her to confirm to them exactly why she's the president of the company. She's waited for this all of her life and now she should enjoy it. It's time that she is recognized. Fernando says that Lety doesn't need to believe what he says or in him, but she needs to believe in herself. She should go to the stage and show all those people the woman with whom he, Fernando, fell in love. Aldo looks nervous. Fernando grasps Lety's hands, kisses them and wishes her luck. He realizes he crossed the line and quickly rushes out of the room. Lety wistfully watches him leave and then says his name.

Aldo enters the room. He apologizes for remaining in the room. He didn't want to be rude and cross in front of them to leave. Lety tries to explain what happened, but Aldo says she doesn't need to because he agrees with what Fernando said. Lety says that she doesn't believe anything that Fernando says. Aldo says that she should because Aldo could tell that he was sincere. Lety can't believe what Aldo is saying. Aldo says that he honors those who deserve it and tonight Fernando has shown him a different side. Aldo says he respects Fernando so much more. Lety explains that this is the Fernando with whom she fell in love. They pass an awkward moment talking about Aldo, Fernando and love.

Yazmin walks over to Luigi and begs to be a part of the expo. Luigi reminds her that she's just the receptionist. He dismisses her, saying she has two left feet. She would be better off dancing with the cuartel. This inspires Luigi. He's going to do something, and it has to do with the cuartel.

Alicia and Marcia rush into the expo. Marcia watches everyone and ends up fixed on Carloca and Fernando. At that moment, Bozo walks over to Fernando and asks for Marcia. Bozo sidesteps the question and introduces Carloca. Bozo still wants to know about Marcia. Fernando explains that he hasn't seen Marcia in a long time.

Alicia and Marcia watch all of this. Alicia asks if Marcia wants to go greet Teresita. Marcia's not in the mood. She places herself and Alicia on the second level, behind the executive tables. Meanwhile, Fernando explains to Carla that Marcia is the only woman his mother has ever liked.

Alicia tries to prompt a reaction out of Marcia. Marcia stone walls and says that she has class and dignity. She thought this woman wouldn't bother her, but she's really dying of jealousy. She and Alicia decide to spy. They re-enter the expo.

The presentation starts. An announcer greets everyone to the expo and introduces Lety. She slowly approaches the stage, but trips and falls on her way. Once she gets to the stage, she begins to speak in her little girl voice. Fernando and Aldo rush to the stage to help. Fernando tells her not to stand so close to the microphone. He and Aldo have a moment and then it's back to Lety. She now stands so far from the microphone that no one can hear her. Fernando signals for her to breathe.

Lety begins her speech, thanking everyone who contributed to the campaign. She thanks Guillermo, Fernando, Marcia and other contributors. Fernando whispers to Omar that she's not going to thank Aldo. AT that moment she decides to give a very special thanks to a certain person, Aldo. He stands and thanks everyone. Lety asks Aldo to come to the stage and say a few words. Aldo gives a nice little speech about Mexican food and it's affect on Mexican culture. There's a short video.

Fernando is the first to stand. He approaches the stage. He sarcastically thanks Aldo for all his help with the campaign. All the executives look nervous. He goes on about Aldo's book and points to a GIANT poster of Aldo with the book. Lety runs over to Fernando and quickly takes the microphone, which Aldo takes from her and also sarcastically thanks Fernando. The men take a few swipes at each other. The goodwill must be over because the they both basically tell each other to die.

Luigi sits in his "office" and says to himself that after his commercials are presented, Lety will see his surprise. Irmita enters and asks Irmita to talk to her. Luigi complains about his life. He tells Irmita that he's in love with Aldo and today he found out that Aldo is in love with Lety. Irmita is impactado (in a happy way).

The announcer enters the stage again to introduce Luigi. He descends from the second stage to much applause. Luigi says he has something very personal to tell Aldo and Conceptos' president. Cue the golden circle of tomorrow!

I promised this a while ago. Here’s the Youtube link for the Pinky and the Brain video. Enjoy!

Zorro Monday March 26, 2007: Pity Parties Galore

This is just the start to yesterday's episode, I'll be adding more later. I had computer problems last night and had to spend my evening shopping for and purchasing a new monitor. So by the time that was all over and I got the darn thing installed, it was late. Anyway, I'll post what I've done so far so we can start our discussion.

I've added part two below. Thanks for understanding my tardiness.

Diego and Fernando are talking in the stable, while Mariangel watches. Diego is confused and doesn’t understand quite what FS is saying. D-What are you talking about? You want me to marry MA? FS- If you are a gentleman, you’ll do it. MA-Papa, Diego still isn’t feeling too well. FS-Leave us alone (to MA), we’ll be talking later. She actually listens to him and leaves. Now alone, the two men continue talking…D-I don’t know what to say, I can’t seem to get my thoughts together to figure out what happened last night. FS-What happened last night?!? It is quite clear. You had sex with my daughter in her bed, in my house. That is a grave offense, for which you will have to answer. What, you have nothing to say to this? Go ahead and deny it. D-I don’t remember. FS-Of course, you were drunk (he says in disgust, need we remind FS that just a few episodes back he got so loaded he had to be carried home), but you are a gentleman. You should be in control of your feelings and emotions. D- I don’t know what happened (he’s beginning to sound like a broken record). FS- Almudena and I found you in Mariangel’s bed, naked. D-If I dishonored Mariangel, please forgive me. FS-Your apologies mean nothing, if you are a gentleman you’ll marry her.

Dena, meanwhile, is visiting Esmeralda. She knows she has to tell her about what happened with Diego, and she really doesn’t waste any time. The two rehash a bit about Montero and the Marquesa (MC), how MC really put the squeeze on him. Esme says how Monty made a deal with her, because he’s greedy, he agreed to let Esme out of their marriage as long as she tells MC that he had nothing to do with the things that happened to the de la Vegas. Dena takes this chance to break the news. D-“Esme, you need to be strong. Mean are impulsive and they don’t always think of the consequences of their actions. Last night, I only told you part of the story of what happened to Diego, why he didn’t come to the party. We found Diego in Mariangel’s room, with her, naked.” Esme is shocked and upset. She says that there has to be a mistake. Dena insists that she and Fernando saw them together. Esme says that there is no way Diego would do that , Mariangel must have tricked him in some way. E-MA is capable of doing anything to get what she wants. Esme goes on to say that she knows how MA operates and that when she saw MA with Diego the day before, Diego seemed strange to her, something wasn’t right. D—I’m sure that this is something that MA planned, but regardless, it is still a bad situation. E- Diego didn’t know what he was doing, he was drunk. D-Well, FS expects Diego to be a gentleman and do right by the situation. Esme starts to cry and says “No.”

Monty is meeting with the judge. The judge is resistant to granting the annulment. He thinks that it will cause a scandal in the town. It will appear that Monty is publicly rejecting Esme and insulting the governor’s family. Monty assures him that FS won’t care, and Esme will care even less. Monty says the annulment can happen because he’s never touched Esme (I betcha this was hard for him to admit to another man). M-She is still pure and I’ve got to be separated from her immediately. J-What is the reason? M-Make something up. The judge goes on to explain that the legal documents for the wedding have already been sent to Spain. In fact they are probably on the ship that’s about set to sail. Monty tells the judge he needs to go get those papers. He orders a soldier to go with him and that the judge better hope the ship hasn’t sailed yet.

At the de la Vegas, the Marquesa and Dolores rehash what happened with Monty. The MC does a comical job of imitating Monty and his graveling the night before. Dolores wishes she could have seen it. The two women talk about Alejandro, how much they both care for him. The conversation turns to how MC never thought Al would marry again and how lucky Dena is. Dolores remembers that they didn’t announce the date of their wedding like they planned to do at the party. She suspects that something is up and she’s sure it has something to do with Al’s dead wife, Regina. Dolores says she knows that Al still loves her, but he also loves Dena. She thinks that Regina’s ghost won’t let Al find any happiness with another woman (if by Regina’s ghost, she means Yumali, then I think she’s right).

Al, who only a mere two or three days before was on the brink of death from an arrow in the back, is out riding his horse. He hurts himself when he dismounts and Yumi is there to scold him, she tells him he never listens. He tells her she is the same way. He noticed she didn’t come to the party last night. Al wanted her there so she can start to learn their customs, just like he did for her tribe a long time ago. Yumi is upset and Al can’t figure out what is wrong. She tells him that she can’t be here, she’s got to go back to the mountains (I think Yumi is learning the customs and habits really well, she too is sounding like a broken record). A-“Where will you go? All of your people are gone.” (Ever the man with comforting words.) Y-I don’t belong here or in your life. A- “You belong here, I care for you. You saved my life.” Y-Who do you care for, me or your dead wife. She says something about how everyone has been comparing them. So she wonders to Al ….Y- When you help me, it is me you are helping or is it her? Al caresses her cheek and tells her that he really cares for her from the bottom of his heart. Yumi tells him that sometimes that’s not enough.

Part Two:

Back to Diego and Fernando….D-I didn’t mean to dishonor MA; somehow we need to resolve this. F-Then no problem, there will be a wedding muy pronto. D-What about my feelings for Esme? FS-“No need to talk about her, she’s married. So follow her example. She sacrificed herself to marry Monty in order to save your life.” D-Don’t remind me. FS- “I have to because you need to accept your destiny. You can’t go around town ruining women/ladies’ reputations.” D- I agree, but…..FS-What’s wrong? Look, you have to marry my daughter or else we’ll be forced to duel.

Esme whines, poor me why all this now when everything was going to work out for her and Diego. She asks Dena if she has spoken with Diego—no Dena says. She goes on to blame MA for all of this, once again. Then Esme gets the bright idea that she needs to go find Diego right this instant to talk to him and find out what actually happened.

FS-Say something because I’m losing my patience. D-“I don’t want to avoid my responsibilities, but give me some time. I’ll marry MA, but I’m confused. I need to speak with MA. I can handle alcohol, but don’t know what happened last night.” FS- You need details? D-It’s all I am asking and I need time to talk to my family, my father.
FS-You have a reputation, I thought Al taught you to have honor and decency. If you use this time as a chance to flee, well don’t even think about it. No one, not even your aunt Maria Pia, will stop me from making you pay if that happens.” Diego nods and Fernando leaves him to ponder his words.

Diego goes and finds Mariangel. He asks her to tell the truth about what happened anoche. MA tells Diego that she is offended, was it all lies? Diego doesn’t understand what she’s talking about. (Frankly neither do I, but I'm sure it is all LIES!!) MA- You opened your heart to me, telling me that you never should have loved Esme and how she deceived you. D-“I remember drinking someplace far away from here. How did I end up in your house, in your bed?” MA-“We came here to talk and kill your pain. You said you liked me in spite of everything and I believed you, so I made a move.” D-I’m sorry, I lost control. MA-“You think this is all an error. You did it because you were drunk. But we were together last night. I believed your words. You know I love you and if you used me it was all worth it. I’ll remember your words and your touch. So don’t worry, I’ll talk to my father and tell him that I’ll live with the dishonor. So go on with your life and don’t worry about me.” MA, throws a fake pity party for herself, and Diego is too blind to see it for what it really is. MA walks away and Diego makes a half hearted attempt to call her back.

Diego rides off, leaving the governor’s home. The little apple boy tries to give him the message from Esme, but Diego doesn’t see or hear him.

Padre Tomas tends to the facial wounds that the Cardinal got from Nutty Nun. They rehash what has happened. PT finds it interesting that NN knew about Fernando and Maria Pia’s meeting, but doesn’t let on to the Cardinal. The Cardinal tells PT that NN is possessed and she’ll never become a nun.

Maria Pia prays over NN, who is writhing in her bed. In a guttural voice, NN tells MP that she is a hypocrite and tells her to be quiet. MP whispers that she’ll tell NN everything that happened with her and Fernando. MP does an abbreviated rehash. She tells NN to rest and get better. After MP leaves, NN mutters that she saw them; she saw them in their desire.

The doctor/dentist/gravedigger has come with some Indian healers. His medicine isn’t enough to help NN, so he brought in the big guns. It is the spooky woman with the white irises. MP tells the doc that she’ll have to check with PT about using native healing methods. The spooky woman’s son tells MP that his mother senses an evil presence here.

MP walks away and runs into FS. He tells her that she’s driving him crazy and asks her why she didn’t wait for him longer the night before. FS- What did you want to tell me? MP-You were the one who wanted to talk to me (you got your chocolate in my peanut butter; no you got your peanut butter on my chocolate). The two discuss who sent whom a note. FS tells her that NN delivered the note from her. MP starts to figure it all out and clues FS into the situation. FS questions how MP could have enemies. MP- Sister Suplicios (NN) was angry; she didn’t like my nomination to become Mother Superior. FS tells her he doesn’t like it either. FS-What am I going to do without you? MP tells him that he will live like he did all those years before. FS tells her that he didn’t live, he only suffered without her. MP doesn’t like hearing this and tells FS, Enough! FS –“ I promise I’ll never let you take your vows to become a nun if it is the last think I go.” He goes on to threaten her; that he’ll destroy anything and everything that is hers if she follows through with the consecration. (Not the way to win a woman’s heart, I can tell you, bad move Fernando. Just when I was kinda feeling sorry for you, you had to go and open your mouth and spout out this garbage. Learn to shut your pie hole, and if she really loves you she'll figure it out--threats will only push her farther away.)

Esme comes home and confronts Mariangel. She demands to know what MA did to Diego. The women exchange words (insults were flying, each got in a couple of good digs, but I think MA won this round). Esme calls MA a liar and MA rubs salt in Esme’s wounds by adding that last night Diego made her his. Esme hauls off and slaps MA. MA gives as good as she gets, and slaps Esme right back. Esme pulls back and lands a solid punch right in MA’s smug face (Yipee!! Way to sock it to her Esme!! Esme definitely won this round). A cat fight ensues and finally Dena is able to break it up. Esme tells MA that she trusts Diego and MA is going to pay for all of this. Later Esme and Dena are alone and they go over all of the details again. Esme and Dena, both, are convinced that MA arranged the whole thing. Esme comments that if Diego read the note, this shouldn’t have happened. Dena suggests that perhaps he never got the note, but Esme trusts the apple boy and she’s sure he got it.

Diego arrives home and is greeted by Al and the Marquesa. Al reviews all the happenings of the night before and how Diego missed it all. Diego tells him that something came up, he ran into a problem. Al lets him know that Dena filled him in on all the details of Diego’s problem. MC isn’t aware of what happened, but she senses it must be something big because there is some tension between the men. Al tells her its nothing and he and Diego find a place to talk. Al asks, “How could you.” Diego tells him all about getting drunk and not remembering. Al tells Diego that he’ll have to marry MA now. D-I don’t care, after all that has happened with Esme and Montero. Al needs to remind him that Esme did it to save Diego’s hide, and he does. Al adds that Esme loves Diego. Diego doesn’t really reply and the two men start to discuss what happened this morning between Diego and Fernando.

Outside the de la Vega home, the apple boy arrives. He finds Bernardo and gives him the note for Diego. There is an exchange between the man and the boy about how can Bernardo understand him if he’s deaf. Bernardo indicates that he can read lips. However, that skill seems to fail him when the boy asks for a coin in exchange for delivering the note.

Al and Yumi run into each other outside the house. Yumi has changed into the dress Al bought her (I thought earlier in the episode she told him she ripped the dress to shreds, but maybe I’m wrong about that). They yammer on some, (I picked up some major flirty vibes). Yumi goes on to assess Al’s personality. She tells him that he lives in two worlds. 1) He’s a successful and powerful military man 2) He’s a man looking for love, but afraid to find it. She says she lives in one of his worlds, can he guess which one?

Bernardo finds Diego. He has Esme’s note. Diego tells Bernie that he’d rather fight all of Zorro’s enemies than live with the disappointment he knows Esme will feel when she learns of what happened with MA. Diego tells Bernie to leave him alone and Bernie leaves without giving him the note. Diego rehashes to himself about Monty and Esme getting married. Oh, methinks a pity party has begun. He says that Esme knows what he(Diego) is capable of doing so she never should have agreed to stay with Monty. She should have had faith in him. Diego heads out for a walk and runs into Dena and Esme arriving. Dena tells the two that they really need to talk and they should do so with their hearts. E-I came here for answers. D-So you know. E-I don’t understand, but I’ll believe whatever you tell me. Diego says something along the lines of he wants to know some things himself, but he’s a gentleman and wouldn’t ask them, especially to the woman he loves (so he’s fishing for some info about Esme and Monty’s personal life). E-Are you asking if Monty and I…..D- NO, you went to Monty after all I did to save you. E-I had to save you. D-At what price? You didn’t have to do that , you know me and what I can do. You should have waited and we could have found a way. E-You don’t know that. They segue into what happens in the privacy of Esme’s home. Diego insinuates something’s gone on with Monty. E-Is that what you think of me? So last night with MA was a way to get back at me? D-I don’t know, if I did it or not. All I know is how I felt when I saw you with Monty on that balcony. You chose to stay with him and my heart broke. Nothing has meaning for me any more, so maybe I did sleep with MA to get back at you. To get that image of Monty in your arms out of my head. E-So what do you plan to do? D- Same as you did, I’m going to marry MA. E- I hope you know what you are doing. D- I don’t have a choice. I have to accept what I did to your sister. E- I had hoped that nothing happened. That MA was lying. So I’ll have to accept it and know that everything is lost. D- It was lost when you went back to Monty. E-Are you blaming me? D-There’s no room for blame. You made your choice and I made mine. So here I have to accept the future I didn’t want---a future you created. E-I guess it would be best if we don’t see each other any more. D-I agree. (Wow after typing it I'm beginning to think these two are just a couple of big babies.)

Maria Pia speaks with Padre Tomas about the Indian woman treating NN. PT thinks the Cardinal won’t like it, but go ahead and he’ll deal with the consequences (or as I like to say, it is easier to ask forgiveness than to ask for permission). The two go on to rehash the whole set up NN arranged. PT tells MP that NN is obsessed with her. MP tells him that she (MP) let her (NN) down. PT warns MP to be careful about FS, he’ll keep on bothering you. MP says nothing about FS’s threats.

Sister Carola discovers that NN has escaped. We flash to NN in the middle of a reedy river, up to her neck in the water. She’s hanging on for dear life and praying to God. She slips under the water and a hand reaches out to save her, it is the runaway slave. He rescues her and she tells him (though he doesn’t understand) that she used to think he was a demon, but now she knows he is an angel sent to save her life. The rest of the sisters start looking for NN. While they are out looking a group of men approach Maria Pia and ask her if she has come across a runaway slave.

In Callao prison, Hermes confesses to Sara Kali that he does know why he is in prison. He tells her that he used to be an important man, a tax collector (not so important in my book, but don’t tell the IRS that). He stole some money to buy medicine for his family. They took everything away from him and he got put in the prison. SK tells him that he is her friend. Hermes asks her what she did to get put in prison. SK-I’ll reveal my secret, but you must swear not to repeat it unless I die in this cell. Sara Kali tells Hermes that she is the true Queen of Spain.

Outside the prison, Renzo, Jonas, and Miguel are planning on a way to break SK out. Jonas is going to send Lucretia, the vole, inside with a note asking SK to provide a drawing of the prison layout. That way they’ll be able to know where she is and they can rescue her. Renzo and Jonas move in closer to the prison and ask Miguel to keep watch.

Mariangel goes to find Monty. He tells her that he is going to annul his marriage to Esme because the Marquesa threatened him because she hates him. MA figures out that Monty must have been the man who jilted the Marquesa’s niece. She finds that rather funny. Monty is ticked off that she finds it so amusing because he knows that MC could ruin his career. MA says not to worry because she took care of things. She fills him in on getting caught with Diego in her bed. Monty gets jealous!! He is incredulous because she slept with Diego. MA tells him to not get jealous. She laughs her wicked laugh and says she’s going to marry the man of her sister’s dreams (I hate, hate, hate her too).

Esme brings up to Diego that they have lost all possibility of being together. D-Possibility of what? You are married to Monty. E-Why are you being so unfair to me about Monty? D- I’ll never accept you with Monty, you returning to him. After all I did to get you back: suffering Pizarro’s torture, escaping from prison, and getting you out of the church. And you didn’t trust me, you who know who I am, didn’t trust me. I could have made everything all right. E-I’ll never forgive you for MA. I thought you loved me more than that. D-Our feelings weren’t as strong as we said they were. Just forget it. Go live your life with Monty and I’ll go live mine with MA. I don’t love her, but perhaps in time I’ll learn to. E- OK, do what you have to do, and as for your secret, don’t worry. I’ll never tell anyone Zorro’s identity no matter what happens. Now, for what happens next, I didn’t quite get exactly what took place, but Esme seemed to lose her balance and Diego ran over to see what was wrong with her. They got this close to kissing, but Esme backed off and ran away.

Pizarro and his soldier discover Miguel outside the prison. Piza questions Miguel about if he is alone. Miguel whistles as a warning to Renzo and Jonas. They get away before the soldiers discover them, but in the haste of their escape, they drop Lucretia’s harness with the note attached. One of the soldiers finds it and gives it to Piza. He questions Miguel as to its meaning, and Miguel says he has no idea, because he doesn’t read.

Esme cries on Dena’s shoulder. She tells her what happened between Diego and herself. Dena suggests, again, that perhaps Diego never got the note she gave the apple boy. Esme says that doesn’t matter because obviously Diego wasn’t able to be true to her. Dena says she’s willing to talk to Diego for Esme, but Esme tells her no go, it is over. E-"I’ll forget Diego. I am going to focus on getting my mother, Sara Kali, out of prison." In order to get this done, she’ll have to stay married to Monty to find out info on Sara Kali. Dena tries to get Esme to change her mind. Esme tells her that she’s accepted her destiny just like Diego has accepted his.

In the Bat Cave, Bernardo tries to give Diego the note. Diego says he doesn’t want to read it and tells Bernie to get rid of it. Diego is having another pity party for himself, he goes on about how he has learned a lesson that he had tried to lead a normal life, but he should have known that it would be impossible for Zorro to have a normal life. Diego tells Bernie that he’ll go out today as Zorro and work to undo some of Monty’s damage.

The judge returns to Monty, he was able to get the documents. He lets Monty know that he has to write up the annulment and all the couple needs to do is sign it.

Overlooking a picturesque cliff top, Zorro reads Esme’s letter (I thought Bernie was supposed to destroy it). His love turns on a dime again, he tells the wind that he is sorry and that he treated Esme unfairly. She is his love forever, and he is hers forever.

Duelo Monday March 26—There’s an epidemic of Crazy here in Escondidaville

Tonight's episode opens with Arcadio being intercepted by the Emilio's squaddies.

Don Loco, weeping, seems to have brought Soledad to the barn. He tells her he doesn't want to hear about her anymore. But his solution is not to kill her or let her go but to live in this stinky, cold barn. As before, Adela will bring her food but will be told not to talk to her. "It will be as if she had never existed" Or Alina either, for that matter. Soledad sits on a bale of hay and weeps after he leaves.

In the cave, Gaspar is just waking up out of his fever. Luba is all excited and happy. But Gaspar returns to the theme of waiting to see his child. Luba urges him once again, to forget his child. Then she orange flashbacks young Gaspar cutting firewood for somebody and she tells him that they are taking advantage of him, that he has cut enough.

Then that guy in the white caftan (Gaspar Sr.?) comes up and says "Why don't you get your son to work? He shouldn't be just lazing around." Just then another guy, wearing an all white cowboy suit runs up to longhair caftan guy and says "Compadre! Your son has gotten in trouble fighting with "Don Vicente" over a matter of love (un lio de amor). Apparently he killed one of Don Vicente's men and now they are going to come after him to kill him. What should we do? Should we take him away? Should we hide him?" asks the white cowboy.

Longhair caftan guy announces that his son is not going anywhere. He shouts at Luba to do something, make a curse, throw some magic his way, something, whatever!" Flash forward into the present and Luba is bending over Gaspar, saying that she will never leave him, that she will go before he does. The baby that Thelma is carrying isn't the same, "It's not yours." She tells him. Gaspar astutely tells her that he knows that she is only saying that so that he won't go and get shot again. He says nothing like that entered into his head. I won't even go near him, he says tearfully.

Elias bursts into Don Loco's office, followed by Sergio who is complaining that he told Elias he could not enter. (Don Loco, I might add is wearing a cream colored leather jacket with some kind of tooling on it and his white cowboy hat. It's as if now that he thinks he knows Soledad is guilty, he has moved from his black clothes to his white clothes…) Don Loco does the customary "what are you doing here?" Elias insists that he must talk to Soledad. He knows that Jose Gomez is in the vicinity and Soledad should be told. Don Loco huffs that the person who should be brought up to speed is him. Jose Gomez is already 6 feet under as of this morning. Elias is impactado.

Soledad is walking around the cold barn shouting for Adela. As she is walking around, she discovers a trap door in the floor—that leads outside! She starts sneaking off into the forest.
Back in Don Loco's office, Don Loco tries out his new strategy—pretending that Soledad never existed. He tells Elias that "once there was somebody with that name at the Hacienda but she left, a long time ago." This puts Elias into a fury. He yells, "what have you done with her?!" Don Loco gives the signal and Sergio grabs him and drags him out of the office, Elias kicking and screaming.

Over at La Rinconada, Thelma walks into Emilio's room. She's still wearing her fetching Purple maternity halter top, with the satin ribbon empire waistband. Emilio is in his civvies again, jeans, a white shirt and fawn suede jacket. Thelma feigns bashfulness---she tells Emilio that she didn't want to bother him and she felt bad about what happened. She felt it was her duty to inform everybody about what Jose Gomez said. "Even Flor wanted him to talk!" she finishes up. Emilio said it was right for her not to hide what the man said. "No, No she says, sometimes doubt is preferable." She's laying it on thick.

Emilio takes her hand and leads her over to a chair so that they can sit face to face. She continues—"Before this, Don Alvaro seems to have had doubts about whether his wife really cheated on him. Now he has no doubts at all." Emilio says, "We are not the ones to judge her, Thelma." Thelma appears to agree and adds that this has been a terrible morning. Emilio says, "There's still a lot to do." He's got to oversee the burial of Jose Gomez.

Thelma asks what he's going to do about Flor. Emilio looks up surprised. "You mean, Alina." Thelma goes on—"Now that Don Alvaro doesn't care about her anymore, why don't you ask her to leave?" "She doesn't need protection anymore."

At the Cave, Nora has arrived and is upset that Gaspar has been shot and could have died. Luba tries to calm her and has her sit with Gaspar. Nora wants to know why they shot at Gaspar. Luba tries to say it was an accident, but Gaspar blurts out that that is a lie. They shot him because he was choking Thelma.

Nora jumps up and says, "You were trying to kill Sr. Valtierra's wife?" "Why?" "Because she lied to me." says Gaspar. "She told me she had lost the baby that she was carrying." "That child is mine!" Luba cuts off the discussion by leading Nora away and not to listen to him. She sits Nora down and tries to explain his words by saying he has a fever, Nora already knows how much he wants kids, etc. Nora is having none of it this time. She tells Luba that she knows that Gaspar wants children with Thelma not with her and she's tired of his insults toward her.

Luba doesn't know what to say and nervously fingers her braids and pats Nora on the shoulder.

Back to Thelma and Emilio. Emilio has started at Thelma's suggestion that he give Alina the boot. "In this house, I decide who stays and who goes." Thelma starts having a hissy fit and Emilio points out that she's showing that she's the same old Thelma, always scheming, always trying to get her way. Thelma realizes she's over reached and backs down, tearfully. "You are right, she should stay, I don't know what I was thinking…" Emilio suggests she's been upset with the death of Jose. "yes, that's it," says Thelma. "I'll go take a nap."

She kisses her fingers and touches his lips before she walks out of the room. Alone, Emilio gazes off into space and says "Alina, I can't imagine being far from you."

In Mexico City, Malena, Mariana, Juanito and Dr. Love, wearing a black bowtie and black suit are hovering over the coffin of little Marianita. (I guess we can say she is well and truly dead now.) A closeup of Dr. Love's face reveals—he is wearing a windowpane check shirt! And the bowtie has pinstripes! ( Ewwww! Where are the fashion police? )Juanito kisses the coffin. Thankfully, this is a closed casket service. As he does, he peach flashbacks (I guess only adults have orange flashbacks?) himself and Marianita playing blind man's bluff. A guy comes and touches him on the shoulder, leading him away. Is this his dad? His agent?

And soon we see why—Juanito has a schedule to keep. He's on TV tonight! He runs up on stage in his cowboy get up. He dedicates his song to his friend Marianita "Who went to heaven." We are treated to a montage of Juanito singing his sad song and Mariana hugging Marianita's coffin. OH NO! Dr Love tries to comfort her WITH THE PUPPET. HE HAS BROUGHT THE PUPPET TO THE FUNERAL HOME! I'm sorry but I am at a loss for words.

While Malena is trying to pry Mariana off the little white coffin and Dr. Love is looking around nervously there is a woman just standing there expressionless. She's no more than 5 feet away but she just stands there facing away from all this commotion. Maybe she is some kind of paid attendant.

Dr. Love takes the puppet off his hand and lays it on top of the coffin along with the clown nose he used to wear.
Juanito is still singing, a tear rolling down his cheek. And he imagines her (with hair) smiling at him, wearing a white dress dancing in the front row of the studio. (Gotta say, she's a really cute kid.) He peach flashbacks asking her to be his girlfriend. The song finally ends and the audience goes wild. Juanito looks out with a somber look on his little face.

Back in Sierra Escondida, Elias has come back to his temporary house in the construction zone. He's dejected at not being able to help Soledad. But there she is! Right there in his cabin! And none too soon since there is some kind of storm starting up outside. They smile and grasp eachothers' hands.

Emilio has gone to see Alina. He asks her if she knows that Jose Gomez is about to be buried. She says yes, she knows, Orlando told her. She says she feels sorry that no one will be there for him. She also feels sorry for herself that with him died any hope of clarifying her situation. (Frankly, I thought this sounded a little cold). He suffered and all she was able to do was give him a glass of water.

Emilio starts at this piece of information. "Water?!" Yes, she says, Thelma told her he needed water so she gave it to him." Emilio tells her that Thelma knew not to give him water, that it was dangerous and that he could die. Alina is impactado right into the commercial break.

When we come back, it is Emilio who is incredulous and Alina who is screaming and crying. "She did it on purpose!" says Alina. Emilio is dumb enough to ask why and Alina screams that Thelma hates her. "Because she will never forgive me that once, you and I loved each other." She plops on the bed, head in hands and Emilio bends down to comfort her. He tells her not to talk in the past tense, as if they could not love eachother again. He starts kissing her but she pulls away and tells him to stop taking advantage. She kicks him out of the room. After he leaves, she starts crying again and flops on the bed.

At Elias' casita the two are at his little table drinking coffee (or tea, or chocolate, who knows? It's in a mug not a leaded crystal glass). Elias asks her if she has calmed down. And she answers yes. After she explains her escape from the barn, Elias says that he feels bad that he was not able to help her. He notes that things got worse for her when she went back to Alvaro (in the standoff at the church).

Soledad agrees but says there was no way he could help her. It was too dangerous. "Alvaro is capable of anything."
Elias has gotten up and has put his hands on her shoulders. He starts to talk about the affection they have always felt for each other. This apparently makes Soledad very nervous and she bolts for the door. She says that Adela has been taking very good care of her and she doesn't want to put him (Elias) in danger. It is her role in life to stay with Alvaro until God decides (hasta que Dios manda). (Lady, why don't you just shoot yourself right now and spare us all your misery???!!)

Back at La Rinconada, Emilio confronts Thelma about telling Alina to give Jose water. "Did you want that guy to die, or what?" Thelma is impactada.

Outside the thunderstorm rages.

Soledad is bent on leaving the safety of Elias' cabin. Elias feebly asks her to stay, given the fact that there is a storm outside. Soledad says no, Alvaro will find her with him, kill him, etc. Elias points out that he could find her wandering around outside and that would be dangerous for her. He says, "At least let me take you back on horseback." She agrees. Elias swears to her that he will find a way to get Alina and her away from there, forever. They leave in a hurry together.

Emilio and Thelma are still arguing. Thelma tries to make like giving water to Jose was a mistake that she forgot what the doctor said. "What, you are going to blame me for his death?" Thelma asks him. She points out all the help that she gave since they brought Jose to the house. Emilio agrees that she was helpful. Thelma feeling like she's convinced him, says "I hope you won't blame me again!" She flounces out of the room.

Emilio, hat in hand, looks confused. Then he orange flashbacks the big smooch he just gave to Alina awhile back. (This kiss is more like a lamprey than a Large mouth bass as he almost gets her nose and lips in his mouth. Not pretty). He stares off into the distance again and again addresses Alina---"Alina, I feel your suffering for the death of this man. I loved you at first sight."

Nurse Susi is giving Angel one of his many injections. She's wearing a short tight white skirt and a tight white sleeveless top today. Angel complains that he is tired of his affliction. Nurse Susi asks if Angel has argued with his brother again today. Angel complains that Emilio is obsessed with Alina. Nurse Susi replies, "She must be very special to him." Angel continues (between coughs) that besides having many wonderful qualities, she's the only woman who hasn't allowed herself to be used (no ha entregada con facilidad). Nurse Susi suggests that perhaps that's what has Emilio infatuated (her being a virgin) Angel says no, and besides, he's not infatuated, he's in love with her to the marrow of his bones. Even being married, he still loves her. Susi arches an eyebrow and says "He must be suffering a great deal." Angel agrees and says. "It's a punishment, a punishment for having broken the hearts of so many women." He who has made fun of love for so long, now is being tortured by an impossible love. Susi looks at Angel with an inscrutable expression.

Castulo is eyeing a diamond necklace that Thelma has brought him. Thelma wants him to go find out if Gaspar is dead. Castulo tells her that Gaspar isn't dead. He's alive thanks to his mother's herbal remedies. Thelma is ticked. Castulo argues that Gaspar is a good guy. He must have some reason for bothering her. Like that child she is carrying is really his. Thelma gets mad and tells him to shut up, whereupon Castulo figures it's time for a little game of grab ass. Thelma fights him off and leaves. Castulo looks at the diamond necklace again and pronounces it good.

Speaking of Gaspar, we are back in the cave where Luba is looking at his wound and telling him that he will be able to get up soon. She gives thanks to the virgencita. Gaspar tells Luba she's been good to him. "How could I not," asks Luba. "You are my son. You came from inside me." Luba says that something tells her that Soledad needs her help. She must go and see her. Gaspar sniffs the air and says that a rainstorm is coming. Luba assures him that she's just going for a brief visit and coming back. She leaves as the thunder rolls ominously in the background. It's Gaspar's turn to give a little speech, staring into space. He says out loud that he has to get better so that he can take care of his mom and the baby. "I will love them all "he says, hugging himself, smiling.

Alina is sitting on her bed, comparing notes with Vera since both of them brought water to Jose under Thelma's instructions. Vera wants to denounce Thelma to the police but Alina says no, "It wasn't Thelma who gave water to Jose." "It was us." "And anyway, Emilio will defend her, she's his wife. He loves her." Vera balks at the last assertion. She doesn't think that Emilio loves Thelma. "Why did I see them kissing eachother then?" "And why does he then come and try to say he still feels love for me?" "He's a liar!" finishes Alina. Vera just shakes her head.

Thelma is sitting on her bed eating melon while her Aunt Rebeca is scared by the lightning outside. AR is cheered by the idea that Jose Gomez is now in the ground and can't cause them anymore trouble. Thelma chuckles over the fact that Jose Gomez's actual lover was the sister of Don Alvaro but nobody knows this but her! AR speculates about what happened to Mariana and what would happen if Don Alvaro were to find out that Alina is his real daughter and his wife never betrayed him? Thelma cuts her off. That will never happen. He's very sure. She swears AR to secrecy.

Ifigenio and Jaime have returned from burying Jose. The report in to Emilio that the task is complete. Jaime adds that he knew Jose Gomez when he was foreman at Hacienda de Loco and he was already leaving when the rumor spread about his being Alina's father. Ifigenio adds that he went to Jose's old casita to see if it was available for his cousin Arcadio when he found Jose Gomez there. ( I think basically they are trying to explain their associations with him since after all, he was a wanted man).

Emilio sighs and says "poor Alina." She was so sure she was the daughter of Alvaro Montellano." The guys ask if Emilio feels pity for her. He confesses to feeling more than pity. The guys point out that she has had a life of suffering. (I thought it was just 2 years but maybe Don Loco made her life hell even before that?) Emilio says he wants to put a stop to that. From this day forward, Alina is going to be treated as a guest in this house, not a servant. The guys look happy.

Thelma is lying in bed. Suddenly Jose Gomez is there, with a bloody bandage wrapped around his waist. He puts his hands around her throat choking her. She wakes up screaming "I didn't kill him! I didn't kill him!"

Elsewhere, Santos and Braulio are talking. Santos is asking for permission to marry Rosita. Rosita has agreed because, in the end, she loves Santos. The plan is for both of them to stay there in Sierra Escondida. Braulio doesn't like that part. He is worried about what Don Max will do when he finds out since he is still infatuated with Rosita and wants to marry her. Santos claims he will defend her and won't let him beat him to a pulp again.

Back to Vera and Alina in Alina's room. Nice room for a servant, by the way. Alina is going over the details of what happened on Jose's deathbead. Why did Jose say that Alina was his daughter? "And do you know what pains me the most?" says Alina. "That everybody now thinks that My mother cheated on my father." Vera disagrees. She says nobody in the town believes that she would be capable of cheating on him…with a foreman!" "Emilio does" pointed out Alina. "But what I don't understand is who is this daughter?"

Back in Mexico City, Mariana is standing over the little white casket. Dr. Love is standing nearby and Malena is resting in a chair. Mariana asks "How am I going to overcome this loss?" Dr. Love chimes in "Time. Time will give you resignation. And in time maybe…" Mariana brushes him off and tells him not to ask anything of her right now. Bad timing guy. Mariana returns to her place with her arms wrapped around the coffin. She says she wants to stay with her princess, her little girl to the very last moment.

Thelma is up and pacing the room like a caged animal. Aunt Rebeca is there too. She tells Thelma that when she heard her scream, she thought that "That idiot had come back to attack you." Thelma says no, it was a horrible nightmare. Jose was trying to strangle her. "I didn't kill him" Thelma keeps repeating. "All I did was speed up his death." Then she decides that killing him was OK. She once thought about killing Coral, but then she decided that it wasn't worth the risk. Maybe she should kill Flor. Aunt Rebeca is a little disturbed by this crazy talk and leads Thelma downstairs to the kitchen to prepare her a nice hot cup of tea.

Luba and Adela are catching up in the kitchen of Hacienda de Loco. Luba is outraged at the developments that have taken place, since she was last there. Adela complains that now the Patron doesn't even let her talk to Soledad when she brings her food. Luba decides that they have to do something. She'll see if the Patron will allow her to talk to her. They have help Soledad before she goes crazy. Adela crosses herself.

Sergio bursts in and demands to know what "the witch" is doing there. Luba has his number though—he's superstitious. She tells him he better not mess with her or he'll be sorry. She's there to cure the Patrona. Sergio says her services are no longer required but if she wants to talk to Don Alvaro directly… Luba gives him more trouble. She tells him to treat her with respect and to call her "Dona" Luba. Sergio acquiesces and she heads out the door.

Thelma isn't the only one having nightmares this evening. Alina is lying in her bed dreaming that Don Loco has Soledad in her bed, with her hands and feet bound and a gag in her mouth. He's accusing her of cheating on him with Jose Gomez. Alina tosses and turns.

Vera is heating tortillas in the kitchen with Jaime. Rosita shows up and tells them that she and Santos are going to get married. Vera and Jaime hug Rosita and congratulate her.

Rosita was hoping to see Alina but Alina is already asleep in bed. She'll come back tomorrow to tell her. Jaime suddenly says, I have another piece of good news—I spoke to the Patron today and he says that starting tomorrow, Alina will no longer be a servant in this house but a guest. He will make sure she has new clothes and anything she needs. Rosita is surprised. Vera says "It's no surprise." "The Patron just came to the realization that he has always been in love with Flor."

Who should be coming into the kitchen for her calm down tea? Thelma. Thelma comes in and crashes the little party. She demands to know who has always been in love with Flor.

Floralina is waking up from her nightmare in a cold sweat. She prays to the Virgencita that her mother be alright.

Thelma is still insisting that they must tell her who is in love with Flor. Vera backs off. "Nobody, Senora!" Thelma goes ballistic she tells everybody else to shut up and tries to get Vera to answer. When Vera still won't tell her, she grabs the hot tortilla pan right off the flame and burns Vera's arm with it. She continues to demand that Vera tell her who is in love with Flor. She holds the pan inches away from Vera's face while Vera cries and begs her not to hurt her.

Finally, Vera tells her to ask Emilio. Jaime tells her about Emilio's plan to reinstate Flor as a guest rather than a servant at La Rinconada and to buy her new clothes. Vera throws down the hot pan and starts screaming that this is her house and that they should not be telling tales about her husband. She stomps off. Vera winces at her burnt arm. Jaime curses Thelma. Jaime goes off to fetch Luba. Rosita grabs a cut onion and presses it on the burn. Owieee!

Soledad has arrived back at the chilly barn, soaking wet from the rain. She is shivering but at least she's managed to find a blanket. She announces that she isn't going to die, she won't give Alvaro that satisfaction.

Luba and Don Loco are arguing or at least Don Loco is yelling at her and pounding the table. Luba wants to keep taking care of her. Don Loco doesn't even want to hear her name. He claims that Soledad no longer exists (could mean that she's dead too).

Luba then asks if she can stay the night given the rain storm. Even the mill house. (Maybe that is where Soledad is). Don Loco says that house wouldn't shelter anyone. He kicks her out.

Emilio's men, who captured Arcadio at the beginning of this episode have finally arrived at La Rinconada. They have him kneeling on the ground. He asks what is going to be done with him and they say, the Captain is coming. He will decide. Emilio shows up and says that nothing will happen tonight. He will stay the night here and in the morning they will interrogate him.

Meanwhile, Alina is sneaking by the window. I guess that the dream made her decide to check on her mom. Just as they finish up with Arcadio, Alina rides by on a horse, entirely covered with a rain pancho. Somehow, Emilio guesses that this is Alina and he jumps on a horse and rides after her in the pouring rain. They have a shot of Arcadio---There's a dog with him. Could it be? Tonki?

Anyhow, Alina is galloping way to fast for this muddy road and sure enough, she slips off her horse. Emilio finds her unconscious on the ground.

In the next episode, Don Max makes yet another improper suggestion to Rosita and she slaps him, Thelma makes a move to try to off Angel. This last development is kind of odd. You'd think she'd be trying to get him and Alina together. Maybe she is just turning into a homicidal maniac. Must be those raging hormones!
