Pasion Thursday March 20, 2008 Tears, Rage and More Tears
We get some flashbacks of previous scenes to recap—Cami’s in jail, Everybody knows, Ric’s trying to get her out and La Paisana and Chino want to help. Lis tells La Font that she’s talked to Ric (against his orders) but that she has no intention of letting her out. La Font takes his fury out on his daughter and we get to see exactly what she described to Ascanio last week—his special torture which he’s been using on her since childhood –locking her up in a nasty cupboard. The poor girl obviously has claustrophobia by now. The kicker is that Santiago, has travelled to another town for a business meeting with some traders who just happen to be Molinero Pastor (the guy that Ric and Mario met with under an assumed name when gathering evidence against LaFont and Jorge) and the REAL Ricardo Lopez de Carvajal. In the flashback sequence that Margarita described so well in the previous recap, the real Ric tells the puzzled Santiago that there is a pirate who jacked him awhile back who is running around with his documents. The real Ric says he’ll never forget that Devil’s face. In the flashback we learn that our Ric actually killed a guy for fighting him because he disagreed with freeing the passengers, including real Ric, instead of selling them as slaves. It’s not entirely clear but since the passengers were already loaded in a boat for the coast already, it’s possible they didn’t hear anything and that only being able to see the altercation from a distance only saw him slit some guy’s throat and throw his body off the boat. Not a good impression to leave and it may explain why real Ric isn’t more grateful for fake Ric’s mercy.
And speaking of pirating, Ric has made it to the coast where he waits with the other pirates for Mario to finally arrive in the Salamandra. He’s relieved when he finally does.
Over at the conference center, I mean tavern, Santiago has taken Ascanio outside in a fury. “How could you have let Camila marry a PIRATE! he asks, grabbing him by the lapels and throwing him against a wall. Santi’s also quickly figured out that Camila isn’t really married since she married Ric while he was using a false name. Ascanio gets away from him and walks away complaining that Santiago sees everything in black and white. He doesn’t understand what it’s like when you have no good options. Santiago shoots back that he’s had plenty of adversity in his life. He lost Camila and was left crippled. Ascanio says that Ric did what he had to do to survive. Santiago says so did he but it didn’t turn him into a criminal. Ascanio says that if instead of being shipwrecked when he was captured by pirates, what if they had forced him to work with them? Then what? Santiago who is still hobbling after him says that they aren’t talking about him, what really ticks him off is that Ascanio didn’t tell him. Ascanio says that he didn’t tell him because Camila knew. She recognized him from when she was captured by Pirates and she fell in love with him. Santiago can’t believe this. He is sure that Ric deceived her, promised her mountains and seas, whatever, to get her. [Nice going Santi—she’s an idiot or a whore.] Ascanio tells him to calm down—that’s the spite and jealousy talking . He doesn’t have a right to interfere in her life. Santiago says he has a right to open her eyes to the truth. Ascanio responds that Camila already knows the truth and she still loves him. They love eachother. He knows that the truth hurts. Santiago runs away and Ascanio sighs and covers his face with his hand.
Evening falls. Over at LaFont’s, it’s candlight suppertime. As LaFont helps Lis to her seat, Lis tells him that Ric, apart from asking her to free Camila told her he was leaving town to get the money to pay her debt. When she asks about Manuela, he tells her that “she’s indisposed.” They discuss how tomorrow, Lis will have to face Camila at the hearing before the judge. Lis isn’t looking forward to it but LaFont tells her that it’s just a formality and he promises her that the judge will find in her favor. And “promises are debts to be honored,” he says, grabbing her hand rather hard, like he’s telling her that she better honor her part of the deal by marrying him. He tells servants they can bring the food.
Meanwhile, Vasco and Jimena commiserate over letting Camila get away. Vasco says that Camila has always been this way—overprotective and always taking responsibility. (big sister) While he has always been irresponsible. (little brother) Again there is the mention of his stupidity in letting Bernabé get away with the letter. Vasco laments that no wonder his dad hates him. Jimena invites him to a glass of wine and tells him that his Dad doesn’t hate him. He’s just angry at him, and with good cause. They all love him, even Camila. Vasco says that she should spit in his face the next time she sees him. Jimena disagrees and says that instead of whining, he should be resolving to behave better. Vasco complains that he’s tried. His soul must be rotten he says, because no matter how hard he does try, he always succumbs to temptation. Jimena tells him he’s got to try harder or he’s going to lose his family forever. She asks him if he loves Ines (“a beautiful girl”) and Vasco says he does, very much and he loves his family too. “Then think of what’s at stake” says Jimena. They are both crying by now. “Aren’t they worth whatever it takes?” she asks. Vasco agrees and smiles through his tears.
Ric and Mario are now in conference at the beach house. Mario says they should just go in and do a jailbreak of Camila. Ric says no—too dangerous, above all, for Camila. Besides he’s SURE that Lis will keep her promise and let her have house arrest. He tells Mario to relax, have a bath and send Pablo back to SF in the morning to protect the house and Jimena (who I gather is going back too). Mario says he’s really sorry things are such a mess. Ric acknowledges.
Over at LaFont’s. Auntie Fran tells Lis that she’s going to see Manuela, to see if she can be any help to her. Lis says why, Al says she’s sick. Auntie Fran says she’s going to try anyway, since she wants to be on her good side since she’s Al’s daughter and they are all going to be living together when Lis marries Al. As Fran leaves, Lis, who is holding her dolly, laughs maniacally and says that “we aren’t going to be living together and I’m not going to marry him.”
Fran goes to see Manuela in her room and finds Agata, the nanny there alone. Fran asks where Manuela is and Agata tries to cover up that she’s at the outhouse but that she’ll tell Manuela that she came by to check on her. Fran offers to wait but Agata says that it would make her uncomfortable to know that she had waited for her. Fran says OK and that she’ll see her tomorrow. She leaves.
Fran goes back to help Lis undress for bed. She tells her that something weird is going on. Manuela wasn’t there and the bed was made. And why is she going outside to do her business? Gentlefolk use chamberpots. Also, the nanny’s eyes were red from crying. Fran speculates that Manuela was punished for letting Ric in the house. Lis is now curious to find out about how she was punished. She says she’ll ask Manuela tomorrow. Fran says she’d better keep her nose out of it. [Lis, you have no idea—you thought your Daddy was bad.] Fran tells her that how her future husband reprimands his daughter isn’t her business. Lis uses the opportunity to point out that Al isn’t her future husband. Fran goes into once again how she has no other options and she should stop talking nonsense (sandeces). Lis says once she gets her inheritance, she can go where she likes. Fran says she’s not going to help her get away and anyway, she doesn’t think Al will let her.
Al has gone to the Hotel Rey to ask for Josihei (AKA el Chino). The clerk tells him that he and the lady have already retired for the evening but he can wake them if he wishes. La Font says no, but just give them the message that they will be doing lunch tomorrow. He leaves.
Meanwhile, upstairs, LaPaisana is discussing developments with El Chino while she’s soaking her feet. She says that it’s clear that El Antillano is distracted since on the one hand he told her not to tell anyone that they knew him and on the other, he told her that they could use his house. Chino agrees. They also talk about their visit with Jorge and LaFont. She thinks his house is the dabomb. LaFont on the other hand is sleazy. “Saints or Sinners, I prefer people who are honest (straight—derecho).” She goes on to say that the people that she likes have some concept of loyalty. They aren’t two faced or deceitful.
Ric, Mario and the boys are back on the Salamandra. Mario who is drinking coffee asks Ric if he stayed up all night or rose early. No response. Mario tells him that for sure they will get the money so that they can free Camila. Ric says he knows that but it bothers him that he promised Camila that he would protect her and that she would not have to be a servant again and he failed. Mario says it’s not his fault. If Camila had just followed instructions…Ric says he should have guessed that she would not stay put once she knew he was in jail. Mario says, you’re not a fortune teller to know what she would do. (actually he says brujo but “warlock” sounds odd in English since they aren’t known for telling the future). Ric says he should have taken precautions. Mario says, whatever, the boys are ready to go—two ships ought to get them what they need …Ric interrupts him to say that’s not the plan. The plan is to go to Coral Island and borrow the money from Foreman. Mario is impactado. (Under all that hair it’s hard to tell.) He tells Ric that Foreman doesn’t do anything for anybody for free. Ric puts his hand up. He doesn’t want to hear a discussion. He’s made up his mind. Mario goes to give the order to set sail for La Coralina.
Over to Santiago and Ascanio on their business trip. Santiago rushes up to Ascanio and asks where he has been, they are leaving. Ascanio says that he has been delivering the sample lanterns to Molinero Pastor, doesn’t he remember? Santiago says no. Ascanio says that he thought they would be there a few more days. Santiago says no. They are headed back to SF. Ascanio says “Why, so that you can carry out your revenge by denouncing Ric and showing Camila to be a whore?” Santi takes umbrage at the last bit. Ascanio says he always thought that Santi was a pious, just man but if he does this, he’s a hypocrite. Santiago asks him to explain. Ascanio points out that if he interferes, he will be damaging a guy just to get him out of the way and hurting Camila. And in the end, all of the tears she will have shed will be his fault, beginning with when she waited for him and he married somebody else. The words hit their mark and Ascanio walks away, tossing away a piece of paper as he goes (the receipt for the lanterns?) Santiago calls after him weakly and walks up to lean against a wagon.
Ines and Ofelia are visiting Cami in jail. Cami tells them that she has a hearing with Lis this morning. Sofia and Fortunata along with a servant with food are on the way to visit her too. The jailor complains that her family is already with her and that they all won’t fit in the cell. Sofia says that they can leave the cell door open. When the guard balks, Sofia cracks “what, do they look like a bunch of bandits on a jailbreak?” The guard is chagrined. Sofia greets Cami who says she’s OK. Fortunata goes off on how unfair this is and hands her a book, as a gift. She complains that at first, she felt sorry for Lis but now when she comes over to the Mansion, as La Font’s WIFE she isn’t even going to so much as greet her.
At the Hotel Rey, LaFont, La Paisana and Josihei are all sitting down to lunch (no real indication that time has passed, but I guess it’s noon already). LaFont says that it’s been decided that they will distribute the merchandise from SF to the surrounding towns. It will avoid the problem of having a lot of different people involved. Paisana says that Foreman doesn’t generally like to “put all his eggs in one basket” meaning, his trust in only one person. La Font complains that they don’t trust him. Josihei says it’s not so much that but if something happens to him they lose everything. LaFont laughs and asks what they think could befall him, Jorge’s lord of the place, with his OK, they’ll be fine. LP says that maybe somebody could come along and blow their cover, somebody above Jorge. LaFont wonders if the guy they mean is Ric and he starts probing about whether they know him. He relates that Juancho mentioned El Antillano when he visited their camp. They tell him that he needs to understand that in the Pirate brotherhood, when people break their loyalty, they pay with their lives. Juancho himself is now sleeping with the fishies. LaFont’s eyes get big. Josihei mentions that if he does happen to meet El Antillano, not to underestimate him.
Next we are with LaFont and Jorge in (a rough bit of editing). La Font has been complaining that the pirates threatened him. Jorge is unsympathetic. He’s mad that LaFont has dragged him into this business with the inheritance and the pirates. He even says that the whole caravan robbery deal was LaFont’s idea in the first place. It’s turned complicated with a huge downside. LaFont says that all deals have their risks. Jorge says he doesn’t care. He says to forget about Ricardo/Antillano or he risks “shaking up the beehive.” He tells him to get out of his face, he’s annoying him.
At the judge’s, Camila is waiting for Lis. Lis tries to tell the judge that the letter was obtained falsely—Ric told her so but the Judge tells her to save it. Lis and Fran have arrived. Lis asks her how she is. Camila responds that she knows how she is. She goes on to say that she knows full well that she never wanted to marry her Father, that he forced her to. And that she tried to escape many times. Her Aunt Fran even helped her once. Lis feigns ignorance of this and Fran pretends to not know what she is talking about. Camila says that Ascanio was a witness. Fran says that they won’t take the word of a servant. The judge clarifies that they are talking about the Ascanio, the servant she freed. Lis smiles and Camila suddenly realizes—“You are going to revoke his freedom?” The judge shakes his head.
Meanwhile, La Font is exiting his interview with Don Jorge and he’s not in a good mood. He heads to the hearing.
The judge gets up and explains that of the money that is to be paid back, the amount includes the cost of Jimena’s and Ascanio’s freedom. Lis goes ballistic and insists that she WANTS Jimena and Ascanio to go back to being servants. Camila asks why they have to be punished and Lis says Ascanio needs to pay for his betrayal. Camila asks “What betrayal?” At that moment, the majordomo announces that Al has arrived and wants to enter the hearing. They judge says to let him. Fran tells Lis to let it go. Why should they get hung up on stuff that happened a long time ago in LaMariana. Lis insists. The judge says it’s a problem. This is the deal they agreed to and that Ric signed. Lis says she doesn’t care. Al comes in and apologizes for his lateness. Lis says “we have a problem.” Al asks “what problem?” Camila and the judge look nervous.
I guess they break for a plaintiff conference because next we see Ofelia , Justo and Ines are waiting in the jail cell and Camila is suddenly brought in by the guard. She explains what happened, how Lis had a hissy fit and demanded that Ascanio be brought back into servitude, even though that wasn’t the deal Ric signed when he assumed the debt. Ines asks why and Camila speculates it was because Ascanio chose to stay with her and Jimena and Lis had a spat at the house. Ines tells Ofelia, “I toldya she was bad news.” (alimana—“a pest” says my dictionary). Justo wants to know if they talked about provisional liberty for Camila, but Camila says that they didn’t even get to that yet.
Outside later, Ines and Ofelia confer and Ines says that Santi is the only one who can help them now. Ines thinks that he can appeal to Don Jorge on her behalf. Ofelia is not enthused about the idea but she tells her to talk to her brother when he gets back.
On the road back, Santi is speechifying about how Ric deserves to hang for what he did. He bamboozled Camila into marrying him for his (probably stolen) money.
LaFont is arguing with the judge about how he doesn’t care about whether Camila tried to escape or not. The issue is whether the marriage was consummated and if it didn’t, she’s not his wife and the inheritance doesn’t belong to her. He pounds on the table to intimidate the judge. The judge says calmly that that’s not the problem. They have a deal that he looked over and Ric signed. The deal is for Camila to get provisional liberty and the servants’ freedom to be included in the tab. La Font says he wants it done by tomorrow . The judge says that he can send the papers over to Lis whenever.
Next we see LaFont breaking the news to Lis that they had a deal and she’s got to sign it. She says she doesn’t want to. She says that since the marriage is annulled, that means that Camila is a servant again and so are the others. LaFont explains to her the complicated relationships that are imperiled if she gets her way. Jorge doesn’t want to mess with Camila’s family again after the concessions deal. He cares about what people say. Also, Ascanio works for Santiago and Santiago is his only (bastard) son. This is apparently news to Lis. LaFont tells her that he is planning on recognizing him. Lis asks about Ursula and LaFont takes the opportunity to point out to her that Ursula is a woman and women don’t count for anything. She timidly asks if she really really has to sign the papers (for Camila’s provisional freedom) and La Font says yes, she really does. In tears, she hugs him (or he hugs her) and he whispers in her ear, if she knows where Ric could be getting the money to pay for Camila’s liberty. She responds, from his friends…in the Antilles…
On shipboard, Mario suggests to Ric that if he was planning on retiring soon, asking Foreman isn’t the way to do it. He’ll ask for something in return. Ric says he knows but Foreman said he was planning a big job and Ric is hoping that he can parlay that into his payoff. Mario says that it will be hard—sacking Campeche or Veracruz with all the protection they have now and the few pirates who are left will be most likely lead to their slaughter. Ric says he knows, but it’s the only way. Mario tries again to suggest that all they need to do is find two little boats to raid…Ric cuts him off. “I don’t see any boats” he says. And he doesn’t want to wait around. He wants to free Camila and fast!
Back in her Jail cell, Camila cries and talks to Ric.
At LaFont’s, Agata has gotten permission to free Manuela from the cupboard. She does and the poor girl falls out on the floor practically unconscious.
Ines fills the now returned Vasco in on the fact that Camila is in jail and Lis refuses to take the deal. Ines asks him if he thinks Santi can help but Vasco says he doesn’t think so. He’s too stubborn and proud. He gets on his knees and asks for her forgiveness. Ines says “That’s what you said last time.” But she relents.
At Ric’s mansion, LP shows up with one of the women in the entourage as her “maid.” Ric’s guy at the gate says that they were told that she would be coming, with an oriental gentleman. She says that he stayed back at the hotel. I’m the Senora Mariana Julia and this is my maid, Magdalena. The guy asks if they will be staying at the house and she says no, but she’s come to see Pablo, if he’s around. The guy tells her that he arrived a short time ago and he’ll get him. He shows her into the house. LP tells the maid to stay behind. She asks for a drink. Magdalena flounces on bench. Inside, LP helps herself to a stiff drink. She’s nervous. Pablo comes in and greets her. She asks him if el Antillano told him she was coming. Pablo is surprised that she knows that Ric is el Antillano. (Evidently these two have never met before.) She asks him if he wants a drink. He accepts. She asks him about El Antillano is and he replies I am loyal to him (lo tengo ley) “and Mario?” she asks. “He’s a good second in command,” he replies. He asks her if she belongs to the brotherhood of Pirates and she says yes. She asks him how many years it has been since he has seen his mother. Pablo replies “Many, do you know her?” He puts down his glass. She says nothing but picks up the shell around his neck and blows into it. He freaks and grabs it out of her hands and throws it on the floor. He runs out of the room. Jimena comes in surprised and wants to know what’s going on. She asks LP who she is. LP says “Nobody. Nobody” and sadly leaves. Jimena follows her out to the gate but doesn’t engage her. She asks the gate guy who they were and he tells her everything that LP had told him and that she had come to see Pablo. Jimena asks where Pablo went and gate guy says he saw him going to the stables. Just then Pablo rides up and she asks him who she was. Pablo says that she was a bad woman who gave him away when he was just a child, who abandoned him to his fate without a care. Jimena asks so who is she then, to you? Pablo replies “she who gave birth to me, who bore me.” Jimena sighs and rolls her eyes saying “It’s his Mother!” As he rides away. She is his mother.
Over at Don Jorge’s, Uriel, Mateo and Don Jorge are playing chess. Uriel mentions that Romero Castillo has left town. Don Jorge mentions that LP has arrived with El Chino but they haven’t come to an agreement yet on how to distribute the goods. He complains that the La Font is too tied up in this whole Lis inheritance thing and it’s cramping his (Don Jorge’s) style.
At LaFont’s, Agata is helping to bathe Manuela. She looks like she has a few bruises as well, although they might be shadows. She is crying that she can’t take anymore abuse from her Father. It has been a long time since he treated her this way. Agata says that it has also been a long time since she has rebelled against her Dad. Agata says the way out for her is to get married and get away from him. Manuela says “With who?” Agata counsels her to talk to Sofia. Manuela says no, that her Dad will kill her if he finds out. Agata suggests Fran, since she seemed concerned about her the other day, but Manuela doesn’t trust her. She is afraid that Fran will run to her Dad with whatever she tells her. “Why was I born so unlucky?” “WHY?” She cries.
--------------------------------
Next time:
Santiago is in a rage over Ric. He’s sure that he has abandoned Cami. Ofelia is shocked at his fury. Also, Lis is surprised and signs with a smile. Did she get want she wanted, Cami and the others in servitude?

Guapos Thursday, March 20, 2008. Andrea. Andrea. Andrea. You are, like, soooo totally busted girlfriend!
Luci is at the convent asking about Mili’s past, but the padre says he came when she was 6 and doesn’t know anything. He asks a sister to show her out and Luci takes the opportunity to dig a bit. She says how dear Mili is and how she seems to be so lonesome for her mother. Oh, she died, says the sister, explaining about how the mom was sick, never said a word, delivered Mili and died. (I have been wondering how Mili knew her mother died of grief over a lost love if she never said a word. But I digress.) Luci says then Mili must be a child of silence.
At the office Andrea brings Connie some tea. Please sit, he says, you must still be convalescing. She asks, when are you going to knock it off with the irony? Probably never, smiles Connie. How are things with Alex Connie asks. I got him back, Andrea says. You’re wasting your time with him, says Connie. Not as much as I did with you, she fires back. Anyway, things are have been divine over the last month, we go out, we talk. So you’re a couple again, Connie asks. Not really quite yet, says Andrea, but I’ll get him back 100%.
Hugo is talking to Vale at a table in the garden. I know how it is to be deceived, says Hugo, taking her hand. I feel really alone, says Vale. Welcome to the club, says Hugo. When we were at the Rodeo, says Vale, I thought I could forget easily, but now… I go between missing him and hating him. Do you miss him or do you just miss having a boyfriend? asks Hugo. I don’t know says Vale. Aw, rain is falling in her little teen heart, but she smiles bravely.
She asks how things are going with Mili. We’re going out, says Hugo, but I know she’s not it love with me, and that hurts. We’re quite a pair, huh? says Vale.
Connie has asked Carla to come into his home office and close the door. He asks what Damien is up to, but she says, nothing at the moment. He’s just griping about having lost his shares, she says, but he doesn’t know that you tricked him out of them. And he will never know, warns Connie. Here’s your monthly money, he says, giving her nice thick wad of bills. She lights up, puts them down her bosom and does a happy little shimmy.
Cut to Damien standing by a window, the light on him just so. I have to get back what’s mine, he rumbles to himself. But how?
Mili comes into Connie’s home office and says I feel bad about last night. Don’t worry says Connie, nobody’s going to hit you again. I don’t mean that, says Mili, I mean about the apology. I wish I could talk to Luci, but she doesn’t want to see me. I like to get along with everybody, particularly here in the house. I think she is a good person, just confused. Confused? says Connie. Yes, says Mili, I think she thinks poor people aren’t human. Probably she was raised that way. Connie is not unkind, but he says she could talk with her, but right now he has a lot to do, and then he asks Mili to bring him some coffee. He smiles gently after she’s gone.
Rorgan is sitting in the sunny kitchen, thinking. Horacio comes in, helps himself to a banana and sits down to chat. Rorgan says he is meditating on how to get out of being poor. He has been reading some of Connie’s finance magazines and how he’s hit on the idea that he should start a small business – he and Horacio. Horacio looks surprised and doubtful.
Braulio has a big gilded vase in his arms and is standing in the foyer, upbraiding Lina for almost breaking it. Lina says it’s just a vase! It’s from China! says Braulio. Luci overhears and comes in as Lina exits. She and Braulio discuss how Connie brought it from China and how it’s one of the things he values most – Luci takes it in her arms. (I’m guessing it will soon be shards.)
Mili comes in and says to Luci that she wants to talk to her, that it’s okay about the slap and that she would like them to not to have bad feelings between them. Sure, says Luci, and she throws the vase to the ground. (Wow, that happened sooner than I thought!) She yells for Connie, who comes running. My vase! He is devastated. Mili did it out of willfulness, says Luci, and Braulio saw it happen. (I guess she forgot the peasant revolt in the kitchen a month or so ago - this is what liquor does to your brain cells.) Mili is distraught – it wasn’t me! It wasn’t me! No, says our stalwart Baulio to Luci, you dropped it on purpose.
Mili drops to her knees to pick up the pieces, but Connie pulls her up and says never mind, there are some things that just cannot be repaired and he gives Luci a significant glare and stomps off. Luci tells Braulio she’ll talk to him later. Braulio tells Mili to pay her no mind. Mili says you were good to stand up for me. Braulio looks touched, but says, go ahead and clean this up. As she cleans up he strikes a noble pose behind her and thoughtbubbles No one will destroy you like they did your mother.
Damien is in his room, checking himself out in the mirror and shooting his cuffs. Carla comes in and is counting her stack of bills. From Constancio, she says. Look out, he says, business with him never comes out even. Wanna triple your money? Let’s go to the track! How ‘bout I take you, she says coquettishly. Okay, he says. He kisses her but his eyeballs are all over those bills.
Back in the kitchen, Horacio is giving Socorro charming compliments to good effect. Rorgan comes in and slaps him on the back – hi, partner! Partner? says Socorro. Rorgan says they’re going to start a small business and grow it into a big one.
Andrea and Alex have come back from seeing a musical comedy. She hangs on him and says she loved it and the dinner too. Wouldn’t he like to come up to her room? We’ve already talked about that, says Alex. She hangs on him some more and says I’d like things to get back to where they were, us a couple, us making plans, us getting married. We could have another child.
Alex is exasperated. He tells it like it is: don’t try to push me to have feelings that I don’t have. Right now we’re getting along, we’re doing things together, and who knows what the future will bring. That’s all I can offer you now, don’t pressure me! Damien has appeared at the door and is listening.
Alex departs and Damien comes in and says to Andrea wouldn’t you like a drink – I think you need one. Your approach isn’t exactly brilliant. You have waved off Connie and it’s obvious Alex is getting cooler every day. I know, says Andrea. You’re only holding two aces in your hand, says Damien, and you better play ‘em right.
What do you recommend? Andrea asks. Well, says Damien, I think you should do something you do very well – seduce Connie. That way you have him in your hand should Alex decide to hoof it. I’ll think about it says Andrea.
The girls dorm, everyone is asleep except Mili. She drops out of her bunk and pads to the kitchen for some juice. She hears voices and goes to investigate. She sees Damien and Andrea in the sitting room, and hovers out of sight. Andrea is saying they have a lot in common. Damien comments that Andrea sure has recuperated fast for someone who had a miscarriage. Oh, I was never pregnant, says Andrea. Really? says Damien who doesn’t look very shocked. You think I’d let myself get pregnant? It’d make me look fat and you know I’d abhor that. It was a lie to trap Alex, says Andrea. And that miscarriage? asks Damien. A little lie too. You sure fooled everyone says Damien. Yes, everyone, says Andrea. Good acting says Damien, you deserve an Oscar.
You won’t be blabbing to Alex now will you? says Andrea. And miss the show? says Damien. I want to see how it all comes out. It’ll come out with Alex and me getting married, says Andrea, and that little snippet dying of guilt [or something like that – I’ not quite sure of that last bit]. Mili looks furious and takes off. I’m off to bed, says Damien. How ’bout you? I’m going for a glass of water, says Andrea.
Of course she runs into Mili in the kitchen. You! She says, surprised. Liar liar pants on fire says Mili. What? says Andrea. I saw you with Damien – I overheard everything. Andrea looks disconcerted for one nanosecond, but she immediately recoups. No one will believe you, she smiles. How could you do such a thing? Mili demands. What you did – there’s not even a word for it. Yes there is, says Andrea, “victory.” I have Alex. A baby – pleads Mili, how could you even think of doing such a thing? Because I’m intelligent, much more intelligent that you, says Andrea. All’s fair in love and war! Not all, says Mili! You made me think you’d lost your baby! I have never been pregnant, says Andrea and never will be. Do you think I’d give up this figure (she does a turn) for a baby?
I’m going to tell Alex, says Mili. You think he’s going to believe you? scoffs Andrea. She blows Mili and kiss and heads off for bed. Mili is confused, distraught.
Exterior shot of the mansion to let us know it’s daytime again.
An anxious Andrea rushes into the hallway and grabs Damien and takes him to what looks like Connie’s home office and tells him that Mili knows, she overheard everything. Damien is enjoying this – he says I’m eager to see how you get out of this one! Wipe off that smile says Andrea. I need you to lie…
I thought that was your specialty smiles Damien. Andrea says listen – I need you if anyone asks to deny our conversation ever happened. Particularly Alex, huh? says Damien. I know she’s going to go straight to him, says Andrea. And what are you going to do about that asks Damien. Never mind, I’ve got it all thought through, says Andrea, looking none too confident. Lucretia Borgia has nothing on you, says Damien appreciatively. (We should note that Andrea has not yet actually murdered anyone except a pretend fetus.)
The girls dorm – it’s blue uniform day. Mili is perched on her top bunk. Lina wants to know what’s up. Mili doesn’t want to say – she just says it’s something she can’t resolve because nobody will believe her. I will says Lina. Gloria has come in. It’s Alex who won’t believe me says Mili. Tell! say the girls. Mili gets cranky with them, tells them to leave her alone, and hoofs it out leaving them wondering
In the kitchen, Rorgan is sitting at the table, Socorro is cooking, and Horacio is delivering up his latest verbal bouquets for her. Rorgan says he was up all night trying to think of what business they could start. He says the night they went to the Rodeo he was starving -no food to be had. How ‘bout they open a taco stand there and call it “Tacos Nacos”? Horacio loves the idea and they high five. [I hope I got his business plan right.]
Andrea is talking to Alex, acting wounded and saying Mili is a pathological liar. Mili has said that she’s going to tell lies and say that Andrea is a woman with no soul, no scruples, that Andrea is after Alex just for his money and is laughing behind his back. She says that Mili said that she enjoyed killing off the baby, and that she is going to tell Alex Andrea faked being pregnant. Andrea is working up some nice victim tears, and Alex is listening very carefully, puzzled, impactado. Are you sure? He asks.
Rorgan is washing the car and Horacio is having an apple and chatting. He is excited about the Taco Naco idea and they’re going to go speak to the head lady of the Rodeo. Horacio admires Rorgan’s brains, and Rorgan acknowledges his brilliance, but says he is stupid in love. Horacio says in love we think with the heart and not with the brain. Rorgan wonders how he can cheer Vale up. He says he feels bad to see her so sad. Horacio says I told you to pay her compliments, make her think that’s she the only woman in the world, a goddess. She’ll cheer up and she’ll have eyes for you!
Mili steels her resolve and knocks on Alex’s door. He comes out – he’s on his way to work and boy is he cold and hard with her. You told me not to cross your path, he says. It’s important she says, it’s about your child. I have no child and you know it, he says. Please, she says, I don’t want to talk in the hall, can we step into your room? He says he’s off to work - Aren’t you Hugo’s girlfriend? Didn’t you say your feelings for me had died? I’m doing what you want, leaving you alone, he says. She says again it’s important but he says his work is important and he leaves. Mili sobs.
Braulio comes by and sees her and asks what’s wrong. She says nothing and runs off. He raises an eyebrow. He does a sharp 180 and heads off to Luci’s room.
Luci said why did you make me look like a liar - Mili dropped the vase and you were a witness. He says no. She says yes, and if a wall is blue and she says it’s green, then for him it’s green. (There was a scene like this in Taming of the Shrew, if I recall properly.)
What have you got against her? asks Braulio. It’s none of your business says Luci. Very well, you may talk to your husband and tell him I should be fired because I only see blue walls. And when you I leave this house, remember that I know a lot of secrets.
Are you threatening me? asks Luci. I know about Francois’ death says Braulio – I’m sorry, I know you loved him. It’s a great pity for Alex to lose his true father that way. Get out! Get out of my sight screams Luci. Con permiso, says Braulio, I hope you have an excellent day. This was a great scene.
Luci paws in the bedside table for her thin flask (why so small and who fills it?) and sucks down some hooch. She curses him and says aloud I wonder if he knows that she’s the daughter of his sister. He must know!
Of course he knows says Braulio. This was confusing – it seemed that he had left the room earlier and it was hard to tell if he had stayed and was overhearing her ranting, or if he was out in the hall talking to himself.
The good-looking grocery guy shows up. His sunny jokes flop with Horacio and Socorro, but when Lina comes in she flirts and thinks his joke is hysterical. Horacio and Socorro look disapproving.
Mili has run after Alex heading out to his car. She tries to talk to him; he says he’s in a hurry. It’s important she says. He slams the car door. What do you want he says, stony. She says Andrea was never pregnant, it was a lie. What else he says. Aren’t you going to say anything she pleads. Alex says, stop making stuff up – that Andrea has no scruples, she’s after my money. I don’t understand says Mili. I’m going to tell you the same thing you told me, Mili, don’t cross my path. And whatever I felt for you has died. He drives off, leaving a forlorn Mili standing in the driveway. Wow – sad.
Kitchen again. Lina is fingering the grocery guy’s bracelet and making eyes while Horacio talks to him about Taco Naco. Socorro and Rorgan are there too. Horacio tells Lina to get back to work and when she’s left he grabs the guy by the shirt and gives him the bum’s rush. Next they are out on the lawn. Horacio still has the fellow by the shirt and Rorgan is running behind them. Horacio tells the guy to get a good look at how fierce a face he has, and the guy better watch out if he keeps flirting with his daughter. The kid thinks it’s a joke. Horacio says he knows someone who’ll break his bones and the kid says who? Horacio points to Rorgan and the kid laughs. Rorgan says me? Then he assumes a martial arts position. Horacio threatens the guy with hedge clippers.
We’re at the racetrack. Slo-mo of the horses running. Damien has a race program and is getting ready to bet. He wants to bet everything on one horse. Carla doesn’t want to. Damien asks how much she’s got and she says 10,000. Damien says this horse pays 10 to 1 and then it’ll be a million. Okay! says Carla. She jumps up and down and crosses her fingers.
Mili and Hugo in his room. She is telling him about Andrea and how Alex doesn’t believe her. What should she do? Hugo says if Alex doesn’t believe it, it’s not her problem. She’s done what she could. Stop thinking about Alex and think more about me. I’m your novio! Don’t talk about novio, she says, that was just to get Alex to leave me alone. But I’d like to make it real, says Hugo. I think of you all the time. I love you.
Mili jumps up. She says she’s had it, and leaves.
Vale is lounging, looking pensive. Rorgan comes in and lays some Horacio-style complements on her. What are you doing Rorgan? she asks. You look so sad, I’m just trying to cheer you up and I thought some complimentary words might help. She smiles – keep it up! she says. He tries some more, she is perking up. Morrrgan, she says sweetly. He does kissy-lips.
Back at the race track, here they come around the bend, and the horse they’ve bet on is in the front three. Lots of cheering, and guess what? Their horse wins! Damien and Carla are jubilant. We’re millionaires exults Carla. Oh, Carla, beware the slippery slope!
Gloria is out picking up fallen azalea or bougainvillea blooms from the lawn. Pleasant duty. Our grocery fellow comes by and flirts, telling her she is beautiful. Let’s stay in touch he says. What a slickie.
Mili and Lina in the kitchen. Lina is telling Mili about the grocery guy. Mili says what about Bobby? Lina says he is so yesterday and besides he doesn’t pay attention to her. This guy looks like her new love. So handsome! But what’s wrong Mili? Mili says it’s over, Alex will never again believe her. Lina gives her a sympathetic girlfriend hug.
Andrea is talking with Alex at the office – she gets right to the point. Did Mili talk to him? Did she tell him she (Andrea) is married and has four kids? Alex says she said that thing about the pregnancy. See, says Andrea, she attacks me where it hurts most. Why would she do that, he wonders. She probably is tired of Hugo and wants you back, says Andrea. She’s sleeping with Hugo, you know. He told me plus I’ve seen her many times leaving his room at night.
Regina is reading her room. Hugo knocks. What a nice surprise says Regina. She’s reading Lorca, Hugo says he loves Lorca and quotes a few lines. But what he’s really come to talk about is Mili. He wants Regina to help because he’s totally in love with her.
Regina brings up Alex, but Hugo says he’s with Andrea, then Regina points out that the loss of the baby is all that’s keeping them together right now. Hugo says he wants to marry Mili and that he can offer her everything. Regina points out that food and a roof over her head for the rest of her life will not sway Mili, she’s can’t be bought in exchange for protection. Mili isn’t afraid to lose anything because she doesn’t have anything. She will only marry for love.
But Hugo’s not giving up – he says he can save Mili, that one day she will come to love him. Regina says I thought you were dating, and he says that’s just to keep Alex away. Regina says just wait and see, give it time. Right now you have to be a friend to Mili and nothing more. Hugo is getting perturbed. He says with or without your help, one day I will marry Milagros and he slams out of the room.
Karla and Damien in a bedroom. He is putting the money in a safe and she says why not the bank. He says better to keep it in cash. She lounges on the bed and dreams of moving to Miami. He counts off 10,000 and hands it to her. What’s this? she says. You loaned it to me to gamble with, he says. Oh, no, she says, 50% is mine! I need it for something else, he says. I have a plan and I hope I can count on you. Carla looks plenty unhappy.
Alex is at Bobby’s bachelor pad. They are toasting their singleness with what looks like Cokes. The will really live now! What about Carlitos? asks Bobby. Cariltos who? asks Alex.
Connie and Vale are on a sofa, she leaning on him and wrapped in his arms. He tells her all he wants is for her not to be unhappy. Mili lingering far in the background sees. I will always be here to protect you, Connie says, I adore you. Fatherless Mili looks on. Vale says she has another guardian angel and it’s Morgan. Connie is surprised. She says he warned her that Sergio was betraying her and then he and Bobby tracked down his wife. That’s great, says Connie, he must have a lot of job satisfaction. Vale lists a few of Rorgan’s shortcomings, but says he’s a good guy. That’s nice says Connie. I’m going to raise your credit limit – go buy yourself some things. Vale is ecstatic. Dad and daughter cuddle and laugh. Mili looks on longingly.
Back to Bobby and Alex goofing around in the apartment. Mili said that? Bobby is amazed. But then he says think about it, did you go to the doctor with Andrea? Well, yes, but… says Alex ….And did you go to the hospital when she fell? asks Bobby. No because she was so angry with me, says Alex. Angry or not, if you’re the father of the baby… says Bobby. Alex, are you completely sure that Andrea was pregnant? Alex looks very thoughtful. Freeze frame.
Avances:
Alex is asking Hugo to take him to the doctor who treated Andrea. Somebody is getting kidnapped – looks like Vale. Connie gets a frantic phone call.

I Love Juan, Thurs 2/20 - It's the first day of spring and Pau and Moni grow brains
Our pragmatic Anga has become engorged with passion (so to speak). He tells Nidia that when she tells Paula the truth all their impediments will vanish. He recommends that she divorce Delirio and marry him, pronto. Nidia fans herself and admits she needs time to think.
Pau tells Juan she is tired and sad. She asks him why he so good to her. Juan says she know why and he caresses her face. He tells her he will stay with her.
Laura tells Monica that she (Moni) used to be carefree and optimistic, but lately she has become bitter. She should go with Gustavo (and move out of my house already). She asks what is Moni waiting for, for CL to come through the door asking to be by her side?
The doorbell rings; whoever could it be? My oh my, it's a drunk and disheveled CL. He probably stinks of cigarettes too. How attractive.
CL asks for a whiskey and Moni asks what he wants, why is he there? CL tells her that Pau had a miscarriage. Moni looks truly disgusted when he tells her he thought she would be glad. (He is SO self-centered and clueless.) He cries and says he is the most miserable man on earth, he blamed Paula for losing the baby. "CL how could you?" she asks, appalled.
CL blames Juan for his psychopathic hissy fit. He tries to elicit Moni's sympathy but she pulls back and tells him she's very sorry but this is not her problem. She is no longer his shoulder to cry on (el paño de lagrimas, lit. crying towel). For once in his life he should think of others. She tells him she is re-evaluating her life and he is not part of it. She has an appointment, yes with Gustavo not that it's any of his business, and he has to get out.
Mari tucks Juanito into bed and tells him Papi is late because he has a lot to discuss with Paula. Juanito adamantly declares that Pau is not the right woman for his papa! She makes him suffer and she doesn't deserve him! (Hear, hear) He says Pau doesn't love his papa but Mari, sí! "You love him more than Paula, correct?" he demands. Mari clucks and tucks him into bed.
Moni admits to Laura her disgust at the way CL treated Paula. When Moni had her miscarriage Pau was there to help her. She swears that CL is the height of egotism and cynicism. How could she ever have loved him? For the first time she sees CL as he really is, a man who deserves nothing.
Now that Moni has dumped him for good, CL decides to try his luck with Paula again. Unfortunately for him Juan stands guard outside her room and over his cadaver will he allow CL into her room. CL insults Juan, calls him a common Nahuatl. Juan answers "Fine, and this common Nahuatl will stand in your way." The strapping, muscular commoner calls CL filth, he doesn't deserve Paula or anyone. CL claims he loves Pau. "False!" answers Juan, CL doesn't know what love is. Love is not hurt and betrayal. He asks has CL ever loved anyone enough to sacrifice his life for them? Juan thinks not. Juan stands firm and a resigned CL wanders away.
Mari complains to Nidia that Juan never came home. Nidia tells her Juan and Pau were probably just talking business...all night. Mari remembers to tell Nidia that Delirio left the house. This causes Nidia to squeal, very loudly, with joy. She prances around the room, heads for the bar, announces they should celebrate Delirio's departure with...(brakes squeal)...a little cup of coffee?
Moni surprises a sultry and robe-clad Gustavo. She says she's decided to go with him to Miami and in response he lays a big wet one on her.
Moni tells him she was blind but she finally opened her eyes. She thanks Gustavo for helping her away from her bitterness. He replies it's he who should be thanking her, he didn't think she would really leave with him. He wants to go ASAP but Moni says she needs a couple of days to arrange things. They enjoy a celebratory make-out session.
CL tells Consuelo the news about Pau. Chelo asks why isn't CL with her? "Because I'm an imbecile," he answers. He also blames Juan.
Juan calls Mari to tell her he won't be home until the morning. She's appalled that he's spending the night with Pau. Juan says he'll explain everything in the morning. Mari stares at the phone in disapproval.
The next morning Juan tells Pau he's going to run home to see Jito then he'll come flying back. She says she doesn't know what she would have done without him.
When Juan arrives at Casa Cachón Mari gives him a tongue-lashing about his responsibilities as a father. What could cause him to think he can just leave his son for the entire night? When he can finally get a word in, Juan reveals he spent the night in the hospital because Pau lost her baby.
He tells Mari that he and Pau were celebrating the success of their proposal she felt a pain, they went to the hospital, and she lost the baby. Mari looks terribly sad, but they are interrupted by Juanito who runs down to give his papi a big hug.
Moni tells Laura that she wants to stick it to CL one last time. She calls Anga and arranges to meet with him when Juan shows up at work. Anga looks curious and suspicious.
When he shows up for "work", Nidia cheerfully tells Topete that Delirio moved out and perhaps Topete should looke for him at the prison. Oddly, Topete seems to find this news amusing.
A contrite and sober CL shows up at Pau's room. Her lips become pencil thin and she looks away in distress.
Juanito wants to accompany Juan to the hospital but Juan says kids aren't allowed. He tries to explain that Pau is very sick, she lost her baby. "Where," asks Jito, "in the house?' Juan hugs him and says it's more complicated than that and he'll explain someday when Juanito is a little older.
CL wants Pau to forgive him; Pau says she doesn't even want to see him. CL blames Juan but Pau firmly says No, what's happening between them is their own fault, not Juan's. CL begs another chance but Pau says no, decidedly no. He whines and she tells him not to be pathetic. He indicates that if she changes her mind he'll be waiting for her.
Juan tries to rush out of the house but he is interrupted by a phone call from Heribierto. Gosh, I'd forgotten about him. Tweedle says he's tired of waiting around doing nada. Juan gives him directions to the market, presumably so Tweedle can work unloading boxes or something.
Mari tells Nidia she has terrible news. "Perafan has returned," gasps Nidia? No, answers Mari, Paula lost the baby. They are very sad but Mari points out that Pau's tragedy will be no excuse for Nidia, she still has to confess her guilty secret to Pau.
Ivonne tells Pastor that many perverse theories about the Fer and Mari split are flying around the office. Pastor advises her to stay away from the festival of vultures (buitres). She says she hates seeing Fer so sad. Pastor asks would she prefer to see him happy and married to Mari? Ivonne scoffs and says she's good but not a blockhead.
Monica visits Pau at the hospital and Pau asks if she's come to enjoy the suffering of her rival. Moni says quite the contrary, when she heard the news she was very sorry. She remembers when she experienced the same pain Pau was there for her. Pau asks if Moni is trying to be her friend and Moni responds that they both know that won't happen. However she wants to make peace. In reality they aren't enemies, they competed for the love of a man who doesn't know what love is. Pau agrees it was all an illusion.
Monica indicates that for her the illusion is over. She hopes Pau finds love with a good man; they both know that man is not CL. Pau wishes the same for Monica. Moni grins and says she's found her guy. They both smile and share a warm handshake. Moni has one more thing to say before leaving; she reveals that Consuelo was her spy who became CL's spy, typical, no?
Nidia happily meditates and beats away the house's bad spirits with a palm frond. Unbeknownst to her the Bad Spirit has returned and stands behind her. He speaks and Nidia jumps out of her skin. "No puede ser," she wails, facing Delirio, "I thought I was rid of you!" He blathers until she tells him she told Paula everything and it's only a matter of time before the police show up and haul him away. Delirio thwarts her by announcing he will stay at her side and take what comes.
Fer paces the office waiting for Mari to come to work. When she arrives she gives him the cold shoulder and announces she will talk to him about work but nothing else.
The clock ticks and Delirio sits awaiting his destiny. Juanito sees him and asks Nidia (chopping vegies in the kitchen) what the crazy man is doing. Is he coming or going? Nidia stabs her knife in the counter Luba-style and stomps out to the living room. She makes faces at Delirio until he resonds. He says his first reaction was to flee (huir), but he recapitulated. He has decided to assume full responsibility for what happened with Samuel's will. He will go to jail and Nidia will be free.
Juan arrives at the hospital to find Pau fully dressed. She announces that she wants to be taken to her mother's house; she doesn't want to see CL. Juan looks hopeful, very hopeful.
Tomorrow: Juan drives Paula to Ana's house and CL throws a glass against the wall.

La Traicion, Fri, March 20 - Maybe Hugo can psychically tell Soledad to Stop, Drop and Roll
Enrico tells Soledad not only to protect the flower but to propagate it.
Dr Chirac tells Hugo that an extract from the flower works to reduce the symptoms of catalepsy but the doctor can't get enough of the flowers to do a trial on humans. Hugo wants to be the guinea pig. He asks to see a picture of the flower and guess what? He knows where to find it. The ghost of his father showed it to him when he was a boy.
Far from doing his usual disappearing trick, Enrico collides with Ester while trying to leave the house. While Ursula hides him, Enrico tells her that he sees a man in her future that will love her a lot - him. Ursula says they are just friends. Ultimately, Ester et al find Enrico. Lucas lets him go when Soledad tells them that Enrico had come to visit her. Antonia is scandalized (again) and Ester is not too pleased either.
Guillermo comes back from rehearsal for the spectacular to a very unhappy Helena. She accuses him of drinking all night with Margot in the taverna. She complains about being left alone all day and having to tell lies to scare off potential buyers of the Hacienda. Guillermo says she should be happy: she wanted to stay in the Hacienda and, as he should know, she is an expert liar.
We don't even get one episode without Hercu-less. He's back and he comes to the taverna trying to get money out of Rebeca. He's lost a bundle at cards. She refuses his requests. The guys to whom Hercu-less owes money beat him up. He is going to take his revenge by setting Rebecca's house on fire, when he overhears Eloisa playing hard to get (still) with Arturo. Hercu-less offers his services as confidential secretary and advisor on winning Eloisa to Arturo and he accepts.
Marina has taken some of Hugo's money to get herself all tarted up. Boris is horrified but Marina thinks that they are owed something for being guard dogs for Hugo all the time and all he ever does is think about Soledad. Worse, as far as Marina is concerned, is that all Boris ever thinks about is Hugo. Boris tries to tell her that Hugo has suffered a lot but Marina puts on Soledad's ring and flounces towards the door. Too late, Boris warns her just as Hugo comes into the room and sees the ring. He wants to know where she got it. Marina tells him truthfully that Soledad gave it to her but she lies and says that Soledad told her she didn't want the cheap jewelry from Hugo since Alcides had given her better stuff. Hugo buys the ring from her and and has it put on a chain and wears it around his neck. He tells himself that he will always remember Soledad but they will be memories of betrayal, not love.
Hugo tells Boris about Chirac's discoveries concerning the flower. He says that it's too bad that the only place the flower can be found is the place to which he won't return. Boris suggests that they go in disguise to find the flowers but Hugo refuses.
Soledad tells Ursula that Enrico told her the flower was important and might be used to save someone's life. 'Someone?' says Ursula and Soledad says that Enrico didn't say who but she thinks he was talking about Hugo. Unfortunately, that witch Antonia is eavesdropping on this conversation. During the night, she steals the orchid from Soledad's room. She tells Soledad that it is a demonic flower and she has destroyed it. Soledad is devastated but fortunately, the plant wasn't destroyed and Soledad replants it.
In some pillow talk, Boris and Marina wonder why the Hacienda hasn't sold. Then we see how Elena frightens off potential buyers by telling them that the house is haunted and that everyone who has owned it has died mysteriously. After the buyers run away, Guillermo asks Helena to come to the tavern to see the performance. She very cruelly tells him that she can see him make a fool of himself right there. Why should she go to town to see that? Guillermo is hurt and leaves but Helena is oblivious.
Lucas overhears Antonia ranting against Soledad and her baby in language that strongly suggests not only that this woman shouldn't be anywhere near his pregnant daughter but that she needs medical attention. But he does nothing but tell Antonia not to speak to his daughter that way.
Marina is convinced by Paquito's purple prose in the newspaper that the performance of a disguised ex-prostitute in a grubby tavern is a great social event she doesn't want to miss. Boris advises her not to mention it to Hugo as he doesn't want to be reminded of his past. Without seeing that Hugo has entered the room, Marina goes on to say that she is tired of being part of Hugo bitterness day and night. Hugo tells Boris and Marina that they are free to leave. Marina is glad to have the opportunity but Boris says that he will never leave Hugo. 'And what about me?' asks Marina. Boris says that they are together but Marina is not satisfied.
The judge and Inspector Duarte convince Lucas to go the spectacular with them.
Ester concludes that the fact that Antonia supposedly loves Soledad is an excuse for her behavior and that Soledad should apologize to her. Soledad somehow also comes to the conclusion that this witch loves her and is only trying to help and so she should apologize. When she is alone, Antonia says that Soledad is too proud and willful. She should be suffering because she is pregnant by a man who is not her husband and she will make that happen. When Soledad comes in to apologize, Antonia has thrown all the baby clothes on the fire. She tells Soledad that they fell in by mistake. Soledad goes to retrieve them and her gown catches on fire. Soledad screams for help. Antonia does nothing.
Meanwhile, Hugo decides to buy a house in whatever town they are in. He sits down on the couch after dinner and all of a sudden he is unresponsive. He knows that Soledad is in trouble.

Pasion – March 19, 2008 – Only the good get locked up!
Episode 69 (Excellent!) – Seriously though, so far Santi, Mario, Ric, and now Cami have landed in the slammer (granted, Ric & Mario have committed actual crimes, but not in SF – even Mario’s killing of Gonzo was in defense of others). Meanwhile, Jorge, Al, Lis, Grita, Whoresula, etc. are all still walking around free as birds – Just sayin’
Anywhoo, we begin our tale as Cami asks La Paisana what her name is. LP tells her she doesn't feel like telling her and then they start talking about why LP is going to SF, and the fact that Ric is Cami’s hubby and he’s locked up because of her.
Justo’s visiting Ric @ the pen telling him that if Lis asks, they can put Cami under house arrest, perhaps at his place. Ric doubts Lis will go for it because she hates Cami. Justo tells him Vasco went to tell her to stay put, in case the news of his arrest has already gotten to her. Ric assures Justo that as soon as Cami is safe, he’s gonna skip town and go get Lis her dough. Justo asks if he plans to escape and Ric says he doesn’t know, but he’s getting out.
LP and Chino’s entourage arrive SF, right by Santi’s foundry, and Cami says goodbye to LP. She asks Cami to tell Ric that if he needs any help, he can contact her and Chino. Cami thanks her and leaves. Chino asks what the chisme was and LP informs him that Ric’s locked up on non-pirate charges.
Back at the pen, the friendly guard (don’t know his name) brings Ric a journal and a quill. He asks Ric if he’s gonna write a letter and he answers that it’s for distraction. The guard asks him if he’s a lettered man (which is silly ‘cause any man who can write a letter is a lettered – a.k.a. educated – man). Just then, another guard brings the friendly one a rope and whispers something. He returns to Ric and informs him Don Eustaquio needs him. Ric asks why and the guard doesn’t know. He ties Ric’s hands and bring him over. Ric is escorted to Eustaquio’s office and is impactado to find Cami there. She runs to hug him but he’s not exactly happy. We move unto the new portion as Ric asks Cami what the frill she’s doing there. He told her to wait for Mario and leave! Don E tells his guards to untie the angry Ric. (You sure there? He looks a little hot under the collar and who knows what he’ll do?!). As Ric yells at Cami that she did made a mistake, Don E unwraps Ric’s sword and tells him that his wife did the correct thing and Ric yells back she didn’t. Don E informs Ric that he’s free and Ric says he doesn’t care. He would have preferred to stay in jail and Cami says she wouldn’t have. They keep arguing and Don E tells them he’ll leave them alone to talk. Cami already knows what the situation is. Ric is pissed and asks why Cami didn’t trust him. She says she does, but she must pay for what she did. Ric says she didn’t do anything. If anyone’s to blame it’s him for taking her to La Mariana and surrendering her to Bermejo. She says that might have been her destiny and he says, yeah right, I was an idiot. Cami tries to console him saying Don E told her about the possibilities. They have a passionate kiss.
Back at the foundry, Chino goes to the twins and asks where they can find lodging and where they can find Jorge. They tell him to go to “La Posada del Rey” (The King’s Inn) and that the SSF palace is the really big one right across the street from the inn.
Jim arrives at Cami’s door and gets no answer. She goes inside and finds nothing. She then goes outside and asks the boys if they’ve seen her. A light bulb turns on in her head and she wonders if Cami took off. They ask where and she says “Duh! To San Fer!” They start scrambling around looking for her. Vasco says he failed again and Jim reminds him that Cami fooled them all. Vasco calls out for horses to nobody in particular and the crew starts covering ground.
Al arrives at Don E’s office answering to his message. He asks what’s up and Don E tells him that Cami turned herself in. Al asks what they will do with Ric and Don E tells him they will set him free. Al asks if it can be prevented and is told that the law won’t allow it (even for Al) since they have nothing wrong to pin on him. Al says he does and Don E asks what, they can talk and work it out. Al asks what deal they made and Don E tells him that Ric promised to bring the rest of the money. Al doesn’t buy it, and is sure Ric will just take off and stiff them, but E tells him that Ric wouldn’t leave his wife in jail. Al isn’t convinced. Don E wants to know if Al has any proof since he keeps hinting that Ric is a bad man. Al then asks if Cami will be imprisoned.
At E’s office, Cami confirms she will go to the pen, but “E” told her that it wouldn’t be for long, only until Lis agrees to house arrest. Ric doesn’t think Lis will go for it and Cami asks why not? She will get all her money and she wouldn’t dare piss off Sofi who likes Cami so much. Ric goes back to his “you shouldn’t have come back” and she says she had no choice while he was in jail. He says he’s dealt with worse and she reminds him so has she. He reminds her that once Mario had dropped her off at La Iguana (they were currently staying near a bay, not too far from SF) he would have come back and they would have found a way to get Ric out. She says that would have involved killing and risking his life. He explains that there are other ways (bribery, etc) and that even Sofi could have helped. Cami covers her face and cries. He finally decides there is no point in rehashing, they need to move on. She says she can wait in jail even if Lis won’t agree to the provisional freedom (the house arrest thing). She asks how long he’ll take and he thinks 2 weeks should do it. Cami says 2 weeks is nothing and he says they will seem like hell (Awww!). He tells her he promised he wouldn’t let anything happen to her and she assures him he will keep that promise. He’s worried, but Cami says it was her choice. He says it was the wrong choice because he loves her and has seen his future around her. He says he won’t give up and she says neither will she. Don E walks in and asks if all is set. Ric says yes, but he’ll talk to Lis anyway about house arrest. Don E says he thinks she’ll agree, but reminds them that no matter what Cami will be a serf again. Ric says he knows and plans to buy her. Ric asks for permission to have her family visit Cami and it’s granted.
Back at the beach they can’t find Cami. They figure she went back to SF and decide to go back there. Jim packs and a handful are asked to wait for Mario. They get ready to pack Jim’s carriage.
A sniffling Cami is escorted to her cell with Ric by her side. She figures that this is the right time to tell him that Chino and LP are in SF in case he needs them (‘cause this sort of news is always best told when surrounded by guards in an enclosed place that could echo). She asks who they are and he says they’re friends. Nice guard tells them that she’ll be fine in her cell that has a “catre” (cot), a chair, and some blankets. Ric swears by the Virgin and all saints that he will get her out. She says she believes him and loves him. She asks when he’s going and he says he’s gonna talk to Lis, give the news to Cami’s family, and then take off. She gives him a blessing and the guard tells them this is where Ric has to go. Ric tells her it breaks his soul to leave her behind, and that he’ll get her out if he has to make a deal with the devil himself. She tells him to take care. The guard tells Cami not to worry. It’s obvious that Ric is a gentleman and the kind of man who gets what he plans. He offers to bring food or water but Cami says not now. He closes the door and she crumbles in tears. For what it’s worth, IMHO it’s not that Cami doesn’t trust Ric. It’s everyone else (Al and such) that she doesn’t trust. Although it wasn’t nice of her to ignore Ric’s wishes, AGAIN, it’s probably for the best, as Al would just keep trying to kill him.
Ric wastes no time and arrives outside Chez Al, grabs a guard and drags him into the house telling him to show him to way to Lis and Fran’s room. The guard says Al will kill him and Ric asks “what do you think I’m gonna do?” Manuela arrives and an apologetic Ric tells her he needs to speak with Lis. Mani sends her nana, who objects at first, to fetch Lis. Mani tells the guard he can go and if Al asks, he can blame it on her. She says she heard he was in jail and he tells her now it’s Cami. Lis and Fran come in and Lis starts feeling him up. She asks how he was released and he says Cami turned herself in. He says he has to go get the money he owes Lis. Lis tells him he owes her nothing and he reminds her that Cami’s debts are his. He asks her to ask for Cami to get house arrest. Mani interjects that it’s a great idea. Lis asks if so, what would be Cami’s punishment? Ric tells her for the thousandth time that Cami did nothing wrong (this would be a great time to inform Lis that the little chest of coins came from Cami!!!! Wonder if that’s in the ledger he gave the judge?...). He also reminds Lis that even after the money is paid, Cami will continue to be a serf. He says please, please, pretty please and Lis finally says yes. He asks when and she says once the judge says so. He then asks her to promise not to sell Cami to anyone until he gets back. She promises and he gives her a thank you hug.
Over at the Mancera house, Don E tells Sofi and Jorge that he’ll issue the ruling the day after tomorrow. Sofi asks why not tomorrow and he explains that there is paperwork and they still need a face-to-face interview between Lis and Cami so Cami can have a chance to defend herself. Once Cami is found guilty, she will a) have to pay back – Sofi says Ric will pay, and b) go back to being a serf since that’s what she was before the will and as Lis will become the heir, Cami will become Lis’ serf. Sofi says she’ll buy Cami and give her freedom and Jorge interjects that Ric will probably do that.
Back at Chez Al, Lis and Fran discuss how all’s going well. Fran asks if Lis will let Cami out of jail. Lis says yes. Fran asks if she’ll sell Cami to Ric when he comes back and Lis says she wouldn’t sell Cami for the crown’s treasure. She wants Cami to be her serf for the rest of her life. Big Surprise....
Ric visits Justo; and Paco runs up to Ric showing him the boat he just made with grandpa’s help. Justo asks Inés to take Vasco away and he whines his usual “why do people keep sending me away when they want to talk?” Ric tells Justo that Cami came back and is in jail. Justo starts to complain about Vasco, but Ric explains that Vasco tried to convince Cami but she ran away in the middle of the night. Inés runs back and asks what’s up? Justo tells her Cami’s in jail. Ric tells them that he had Lis promise to let her go under provisional release and that he hopes they’ll let her go to Justo’s. He now needs to go off and get the rest of the money and should be back in 2 weeks. Justo thanks Ric for not leaving his daughter high and dry and Ric says he never would. Inés asks if they can visit and he says he got permission from Don E so they could. Now he’s gotta go. Inés goes to prepare a basket of food.
Back at the palace, Sofi tells Ursu and Fortunata that Don E has to put Cami vs Lis in a cage match to the death...J/K just arbitration so Cami can argue her case. Sofi doubts Cami will win. Fortu asks what will happen and Sofi says they’ll have to pay the money back. Also, Cami will be a serf again. Fortu asks why and Sofi says it would take too long to explain (the audience is grateful as we’ve heard this many times already). Fortu asks for how long and Sofi says they can let her out under house arrest if Lis chooses to be benevolent. Ursu doubts that will happen and Fortu can’t imagine why Lis would want to keep hurting Cami once she gets her money. Sofi says Lis will have to take it up with Sofi if she keeps trying to hurt Cami. Ursu aks what Sofi can threaten Lis with, the silent treatment? She doubts Lis will care.
Mani arrives at the foundry looking once again for Ascanio. The twins tell her that he and Santi went to the fair to sell their lamps and they (the twins) don’t know when Santi and Ascanio will be back. They then discuss how Mani’s smitten and that it’s the luck of those that can read and write (unlike themselves who preferred to be donkeys, a.k.a. dunces). Ofi sees Mani walk by and asks what brings her around. Nana encourages Mani to tell Ofi the news. Mani tells Ofi that Cami’s in jail. At the kitchen, Mani explains to Ofi that Lis promised Ric she’d let Cami go under house arrest. An eavesdropping Rita asks what Lis is doing at Al’s. Mani tells them that Lis and Al are engaged. Rita looks annoyed and shocked. I’m not quite sure why Rita would care, but maybe it’s just part of her judgmental nonsense.
Ric meets LP and Chino at the inn. Chino says “I thought you were in jail!” Ric explains it’s because he wouldn’t tell them where Cami was. Now that she’s returned, she’s taken his place. LP offers to spring her out, but Ric is concerned with all the guards. He asks why they’re there and they tell him they’re here to see Jorge about the contraband. Ric says he has to run to raise some dough. Chino offers to give him the money but Ric says it’s a lot of money. He’s pretty sure he can raise it in 2 weeks though. He offers them his house in the meantime and he can take them. Chino says they have to see Jorge first, so he tells them to just ask around for the house of Ricardo Lopez de Carvajal. He will tell Esteban his porter to let them in. LP asks if Pablo’s there and Ric says no, but he’ll send him over. He and LP do their pirate arm in arm thing. He recommends that they don’t tell Jorge, or anyone, that they know him. Kind of moot since they’ll be asking for directions to his house and then staying there, but go figure. Chino wishes him luck, though Ric always has it. Ric says lately he hasn’t. He leaves and Chino remarks to LP that he’d never seen Ric so disconnected. LP comments that love is the poison of man, and woman. She asks Chino if he’s ever been in love and he says once. She asks if it went badly and he says yes, like everyone else, you too. She says, “don’t remind me.” They arrive outside the palace and Chino tells the guard to announce Mr. Yosihei. I think it's funny that, although he got all pissed early on with one pirate who called him "El Chino" when he's Japanese, he seems ok with his friends and business associates doing it.
Back at the palace, Al asks Jorge what the big deal is since he’s no longer interested in Cami (that one is news to me!). Jorge says it’s a matter of Al causing him problems. Guard walks in and tell Jorge an oriental and a woman want to see him. Al figures its Chino and tells guard to let them in.
The jail has magically been transformed into a woman’s prison (even though the setup is the same, maybe it’s another wing) and nice guard escorts Justo and Inés to Cami. We see a tearful reunion through the bars.
Over at the palace, Jorge greets Yosihei and marvels at how nicely LP cleans up. She remarks her dress was probably meant for a queen in France or Flanders or Spain. The important thing is it fits. He asks for her name, as he doesn’t want to keep calling her Paisana. She tells him her name is Maria Julia (probably made up) and Al wants to get down to business. They have some pleasantries.
Ric makes a pit stop at his house to get a horse and warn Esteban the porter that an Oriental man and an older woman will be arriving. They are to have the run of the house as they please.
At the palace Chino tells the gang that they already told Romeo Castillo he’s not the middleman anymore. Jorge asks if he agreed and Chino remarks he had no choice. Jorge regrets having sent Uriel and Mateo, and also shows concern he might talk. Chino tells him it’s been dealt with and that he wont speak. He’s more concerned about getting the documents so they can pass the goods as legit. Al eyes as LP (or should we call her MJ?) piles pastries on her plate and tells Chino the document still needs to be drafted. Chino is concerned with all the guards that might ask for papers and start checking the cargo. Jorge tells Al to get him the documents ASAP. Chino also asks Jorge to demilitarize the area where they will be distributing the merchandise. Jorge asks why and Chino tells him that they plan to cover the territories outside of Jorge’s domain themselves. Al is annoyed they don’t have exclusivity and Chino explains they can’t have it for all of New Spain!
Back at the pen, Inés tells Cami she brought her some needlepoint to keep her distracted (this was before the days that needles and scissors were considered weapons). Cami thanks her and Justo is sure that Lis will keep her word and that Ric will be home soon and all will be well. Inés insists that if Santi talks to Jorge something can be done. Cami doesn’t want him involved. Inés reminds her Santi cares for her but Cami declines. Justo says this can’t last very long. Either way, he will visit her every day. Inés says so will she. Group hug.
Vasco and Ric’s crew bump into Ric on the road. Ric tells them that Cami’s arrived and they let him go. Vasco assures him she escaped and Ric says he knows. Jim asks if Cami’s in jail and Ric says yes. He hopes Lis will keep her word and let her go under house arrest, then asks about Mario and they tell Ric he hasn’t arrived. He says he’ll go over to the bay to wait for him, and then head off the “La Coralina” (probably another island). He asks who’s left and they tell him el Güero, Samuel, and Miguel. He tells the crew to take Jim home and he’ll see them in 2 weeks. Vasco asks how Cami is and Ric shakes his head in disgust.
Back at the palace, Chino and LP/MJ leave and Jorge tells Al that Foreman is an “aborazado” (doesn’t share with other), Al wonders if it’s that Foreman doesn’t trust them. Jorge wonders if they can ditch him, but Al thinks it could be dangerous. He could send an anonymous letter that would place them under suspicion, etc. Jorge complains he doesn’t want to dance to Foreman’s tune. Al says he’ll talk to Chino and LP to find out what the scoop on that is. Jorge suggests splitting them up. He also wants Al to talk to Lis about letting Cami out of jail. He’s uncomfortable and fears the town may rise up against him. Al thinks he’s exaggerating. They did nothing when he went against Justo, much less now. Jorge says regardless, he wants Lis to grant Cami her freedom under a good deposit (not quite sure what that means, other than perhaps the right conditions?). Al is pissed.
Back at Chez Al, Fran puts some leaves on Lis’ forehead and tells her she has a headache because of the incident. Lis wonders how Ric will get the money and Fran figures he’ll kill some folks and take their dough. Al knocks on their door. Lis doesn’t want Fran to answer, but Fran knows there’s no option. He tells Lis he heard about the visit. Lis says Mani let him in. Al wants to know what they talked about and Lis tells him Ric wants her to let Cami out of jail. Al asks if she’ll do it and Lis says yes. He tells her he’ll see them for dinner. Meanwhile poor Mani’s finishing her prayers. She tells Nana that she doesn’t think what they’re doing to Cami and Ric is fair. She feels she dislikes Lis more everyday, and thinks Lis might be a hypocrite (not something that usually comes out of her mouth). Al storms in the room and starts hitting her. He asks her why she let Ric in, She says he had already come in and she couldn’t stop him. He says the next time he’ll kill her. Nana cries in horror as Al drags poor Mani through the halls into a storage room. Mani begs him not to take her there because she’s afraid of the dark. He tells her to shut up and throws her in an armoire that he locks. Mani beats at the door and begs for Al or her Nana to let her out. See what I mean about the good being locked up?
Cami’s clan gathers around Ofi’s kitchen and Ofi asks if they can see her. Justo says he doesn’t think visits are forbidden. Jim asks if she can go. Inés interjects that Lis told Ascanio that she’d see him and Jim turned into serfs. Jim calls her a damned bitter woman and asks if she can do that. Justo doesn’t know. Vasco tells Jim it’s probably best if she stays under wraps for a while. He apologizes again to his dad for not stopping Cami. Jim tells Justo it wasn’t Vasco’s fault and he tells her his problem is not about this, but about other things that Vasco knows. Rita comes in and tells them she left the baby sleeping in Inés’ bed. She asks Inés if that bothers her and she says no. She asks what they are talking about and Justo says Cami. He tells them that Lis promised Ric she would let her out and they’d soon have her around them (if he only knew...) Jim excuses herself, but it’s late. Vasco offers to walk her home since the mill is on the way. Jim asks the family to keep her posted about Cami, and that if she asks about her, to tell her that Jim loves her a lot, and that she should trust Ric. Vasco then walks over to Inés and tells her that she misses them. He asks her to meet him in the mill if she can and she nods yes. He and Jim leave. Ofi wishes them well. Rita tells Justo he should forgive Vasco, but he says he doesn’t want to talk about it.
Over at the fair, Santi and Ascanio walk into a restaurant. The host tells them the specials (including foot tostadas, eek!) and that they have a really good mezcal. They order some and ask if he knows a man named Molinar Pastor (I think he’s the same guy that Ric and Mario were asking about Jorge’s stolen goods) and the host tells them he’s not there at the moment, but he’s usually in. Santi tells Ascanio that Mani’s very pretty, and nothing like Ursu even though they are friends. Ascanio doesn’t know why she keeps looking for him, telling him about her things, etc. Santi asks if he doesn’t like her and Ascanio says, of course I like her! But what can a guy like him offer a girl like her? A flashlight and a skeleton key come to mind. Santi tells him he can offer her love, caring, respect, the most important things a man can offer a woman. Ascanio says yes, but one can’t live on that. Santi tells him “ye of little faith” maybe this business will make them rich. Ascanio’s probably also thinking of the possible serfdom that hangs over his head. Jim might actually be safe since Cami bought her with money (albeit not hers). They can add it to Cami’s tab, but I’m not entirely sure they can make Jim part of the payment. Ascanio on the other hand, was Tim’s serf. As such, he will become Lis’ property again.
Over at the beach house, Ric greets his posse and asks about Mario. They say he’s not there yet and ask if he knows about his wife. He says yes, and asks for one of his men to go straight to the bay and come get him the minute the Salamandra arrives so they can ship out. He goes to his room and broods. I wonder if he would have done better to keep more of his crew for this one.
Cami holds a diary in her cell and cries. We see women in the next cell scratching their heads (remember the lice the guards warned about?) and we then see Ric splashing water on his face and grabbing his sword. He’s worried.
Back at the restaurant, Don Molinar Pastor arrives with some buddies and requests a table. The host tells him they’re all taken, but two men were asking about him, so maybe he can share their table. Don MP introduces himself to Santi who introduces himself and Ascanio. Don MP introduces his buddies: Agustin Melchor and Ricardo Lopez de Carvajal. Swelling music plays as Santi mentions the coincidence. He knows another Ricardo LdC. The real LdC asks how they know him. Santi says SF and he replies it could be a coincidence, or it could be the darned pirate that attacked the ship he was on last year. They took their propety, the cargo, and even the documents. Santi asks for details and LdC tells how they were going to New Orleans when a pirate ship attacked them. It was a cruel encounter.
We get a little flashback sequence in which two ships shoot cannonballs at each other. We see the cargo ship fall apart. A bunch of pirates throw ropes and board the cargo ship. Sexy Mario starts fighting and Ric goes up to the captain and tells him to surrender or die. The captain prefers surrender and yells at his crew to drop their weapons ‘cause they’re surrendering. We forward to him giving Ric all the documents. He passes them to Mario and tells the captain that Florida’s not too far. With the current they should arrive in no time. The captain asks if he’s pardoning their lives and Ric looks at Mario and then replies with his trademark “cierto” (true, certain, etc). He tells his crew to load the survivors unto the lifeboats and give them some water and food. He asks about the cargo and then tells the captain to leave. A woman crosses herself and they begin boarding the lifeboats. One of the pirates holds unto LdC and tells Ric that they should hold on to them for ransom. Ric tells the crew there’s plenty of merchandise that they can split up amongst themselves. The pirate replies that ransoms bring a lot of money and Ric tells him that he owes his captain obedience, if he doesn’t like it, how can they fix it? The pirate says why not? Ric’s not the best swordfighter in the brotherhood. He draws his sword and Ric reluctantly also grabs his. He says he’s ready if he wants to try his luck. The pirate runs at him and Ric simply grabs him and slices his throat. He throws the pirate overboard and asks if anyone else has a problem. They all shake their heads and he tells them to tie the boat onto the Salamandra ‘cause they’re taking it. I wonder if this is the boat that became “the Camila.” We return to present time and Santi asks what the pirate looked like. LdC says he had fire in his eyes, tall, strong, with a Moorish appearance. Santi glares at Ascanio who looks down. He asks LdC if he could recognize him if he saw him again. LdC says one couldn’t forget a demon face like that. Santi looks pissed. Ascanio looks worried. I really hope Santi has a talk with Ascanio before he starts trying to make a court case.
Next up: Al yells at the judge that he wants the verdict ASAP! Al tells Lis that she has a face-to-face with Cami tomorrow. On a little boat, Ric tells Mario that Cami has to go free. Lis tells Cami (who’s obviously back to being a serf) that she also has to pay for the betrayal on her.

Juan Q -Wed 3/19/08- Tears, Jeers, and some recuperating of past years
Yadi asks Juanito what he’s doing, he says he’s protecting himself and the baby from the thunderstorm that’s coming. Yadi says none coming so don’t use my linens to play with. He swears Dona Nidia said one was coming, into the house even. Yadi says that’s because she’s going to make it happen. Juanito is amazed that Nid can make thunderstorms. Yadi confirms and what a big size too.
Juan struggles with whether he should call CL, he says maybe she doesn’t want him to like last time when she tried to kill herself, but then he thinks that this is a different situation, both father and mother have the right to know about this. But then CL was so upset when he saw them together earlier that he might just come here and do nothing more than annoy (poner el gorro) on his Palomita, and what if she ends up sick. He decides instead he should call Juanito.
Yadi answers the phone. Juan asks what’s up and Juanito tells Juan things are under control now, there was a terrible storm in the house. Yadi tells him to make sure he says it’s a game or Juan’ll have an attack. Juan says he’s going to be late, and Juanito can tell that he is sad about something. He says he’s with Pau and then gets all misty eyed and tells Juanito he’s the best thing that ever happened to him. He tells Juanito that here the sky is falling so he just wants him to know that he loves him. He cuts it short to talk to the doc who tells him Pau is awaking.
Nid is wondering why Pau is taking so long. Anga says right now she’s doing something more important and Nid wants to know how he knows that. He tells Nid he did her a favor and arranged a meeting between Pau and Juan. Ever since he’s got to know her, he’s seen how unhappy she is with that good for nothing CL and that she doesn’t love him, so he thought if he could help he would, so they wouldn’t end up like the two of them. He couldn’t change what happened between him and Nid, but maybe for those two who are still young. She wonders if he’s going to complain about her more he says nope on the contrary, Anga is proud of Nid. She is surprised and says she’s going to start thinking that he’s madly in love (chocheando-this can also mean senile, so both meanings actually could apply). He says it’s not that, rather she is maturing and confronting her errors, so he’s very proud, oh and it’s sexy.
CL calls Consuelo who tells him she isn’t home nor has she called, he gets snippy with her and tells her to call if she hears anything.
Pau wakes up and asks the nurse what’s up with the spawn. Nurse pushes it off on the doc who will inform her. She wanders out in total avoidance and allows Juan to come in who tells Pau that sometimes God needs little angels in heaven. Of course Pau knows what that means and she cries on his shoulder. Very sad and scary. I just can’t help but think of the irony, that of course in telenovela land we are supposed to kind of want this to happen so she could leave CL in good conscience. Kind of perverse to think of this as a positive, but I sort of expected it. Oh well.
Anga tells Nid she’s as sexy as she was when she was 16. In fact, her eyes shine as bright. Nid suddenly has to go because she has a lot of things to do and well Pau isn’t going to show up. Anga offers her the plate of Gods, and some human tortas. She isn’t sure about that, she thought maybe they’d just let down their hair, he says they need the tortas to recharge their engines for peace negotiations. So that's what folks of that generation call it.
Pau blames herself for working too hard and not eating well, or she should have been in a better mood. Juan very sweetly tells her not to blame herself, this happens to many women, and this is just life and God’s way. He reminds her how much she was willing to do for this child, giving up many things to have this child. She says this child was her reason for living and she would have wanted to tell him how much he was wanted over and over again. Juan reminds her that this is not necessary to tell face to face, that the love of a mother to her baby is automatically felt, and that connected with the baby and will be with him throughout the universe and that God has his reasons for these things. So very sweet.
Cl sucks it up and calls Anga for news about Pau, he coldly says she’s not around but should he leave her a message. Cl says no thanks.
Ivy goes in to see if she can do anything for Fer. She fakes she doesn’t know. He yells at her and tells her leave him alone, she obviously knows, he’s not married, he’s had no honeymoon, and she’s probably thrilled to see him miserable, so get out now. She tries to say she’s not, and he doesn’t buy it and leaves instead.
Pau calls CL. He mocks that she finally shows signs of life and wonders where the hell she is. He yells at her incessantly for planning this tryst with Juan and how could she do this to him, this is the worst and he regrets that she’s the woman he let carry his child, ouch. That is soooooo low. Juan listens to her getting more and more upset. She finally hangs up with out telling CL the reason for her call.
Marely confronts Yadi about the inheritance and her secret ways. Yadi says she wasn’t a part of it and she is nobody to tell of her mother’s secrets. Yadi accuses Mar of exacting revenge by giving over the money to her half sister and putting her mom in jail. Mar says that’s not what she’s doing, but her Mom has to answer for this.
CL asks Ivy what he’s done wrong. She’s like huh? and asks in your life in general or about a specific error in mind. He thinks that all of his women ended up playing him. She says maybe the idea that your women are YOUR women is the problem. You think? She tells him he shouldn’t act like they are his property. She says that he doesn’t need consolation, instead advice, so she’ll give him two. Don’t try to understand the un-understandable and stop drinking by yourself. He thinks he should just go off somewhere, she says this time that trick won’t work. She accuses him of thinking only of himself. She thinks he should start anew, but somewhere else.
Juan shows up and gets a greeting of surprise from Ivy who wonders how he is, that he looks agitated, and when he says he’s looking for CL, she warns him that he’s in rare form partly because of Juan. Juan doesn’t need her to announce him, he goes in without being announced. CL is impactado to see him too and asks if he’s there to rub in his face that he took the business or the wife. Juan says neither, this has to do with you two, and Pau lost the baby.
Back at the hospital, the nurse tells Pau that her “husband” left for a little while and that he went to tell someone personally what happened. Pau is impactada and figures he went to find CL.
CL says this is all Juan's fault, but Juan says not true, he couldn’t do anything that would hurt Pau. Cl wonders why he had to come back, you damn goat sucker. (Maldito Chupacabras -did you see it?). Juan continues to hold the high ground and shames CL for blaming everyone else for his problems and not running to be by his wife's side when she is so destroyed - if he loves her so much. Next they calmly walk out of the office and Ivy rushes up and asks to go down with them. Cl tells her she isn’t going anywhere. He calls her a gossip and calls her on it that she stayed just to find out what happened to tell everyone tomorrow. He calls her a snake, (Vibora) and lets the elevator shut in her face.
Pastor and Fer are having coffee. Rughead wants to know why Fer is so sad and they canceled the wedding. Fer doesn’t want to talk about his problems. Pastor guilt trips him that he has no confidence in him. Fer finally just says that Mar just doesn’t care for him enough to forgive his past errors. Pastor wants to know what they are. Fer stays composed and decides that he’s tired so he better just go. Thank heavens he doesn’t spill the beans to Pastor. Surely he’s spying for Ivy, Viboro.
Mar and Yadi are worrying about their Mom now as it’s getting late. Marely calls the market and Mama answers - they are worried about her and think she should come home because of the hour. Nid says nope, Pau hasn’t been in touch, but she’s decided to be honest so, she’s going to wait all night if she has to, to tell Pau what’s up. Just then Anga begins kissing her shoulder, and she reaffirms that she’s not going anywhere just now. They make out.
Mar finds out from Juanito that Juan is with Pau and that he’s very sad and will be home late. Juan shows up at the hospital with CL who is annoyed that Juan was called the husband. Juan and he again exchange words, that Cl is arrogant, and Juan may not be educated but he has valor, something CL could never understand. Cl walks away after calling him naco and an imbecile. Even the nurse thinks he’s a jerk. Juan tells himself each day he really thinks more that Pau doesn’t deserve that idiot.
Mar and Yadi say goodnight to Juanito and speculate what Pau and Juan are doing, Yadi thinking they are having a great time, and Mar thinking Juan is a gentleman and Pau is pregnant so no way are they getting it on. Yikes, that would be pretty classless since you put it that way.
Back at the hospital, just when you think CL will finally console his wife, what does he do? Blames her for killing his child. She did it on purpose and she must be satisfied now. Ugh, how awful. He yells accusation, after accusation, after accusation at full volume at her and she begs him to leave that this is enough, he is upset like her and doesn’t even know what he is saying. Yes, he does, sorry Pau, but he is a first class A-hole and I certainly wouldn’t even give him the benefit of the doubt here, but that’s just me, I guess. He mocks her saying she was sooo confused but clearly those were lies, and that he can’t believe Juan would be worth all this, and he’s not going to just leave. Finally, I guess Juan hears her screaming and he rushes in and ushers CL out.
Anga tells Nid how long he’s dreamed of having her in his arms again and she says the dream will come true, but he says he doesn’t just want her in his bed, he wants her tonight and every night for the rest of their lives. Awww....
Moni is on the phone with Gustavo. Laura tries to convince Mon to go to Miami, it’s her future. She fights it and doesn’t know if she should go. Wah wah, ok, I’ve had enough of this, just stop it already, this guy is hot, nice, lives in the US in Miami for gosh sakes, she’s known him for years, and he clearly has the means to support himself and her very well. This is a no-brainer except in messed up Querendon novelaland!!! Oh well.
Outside, CL is yelling he wants Juan dead, and that oh sure, now that his wife hates him and killed his child, the path is clear for Juan to waltz on in. Juan tells him he’s not that kind of guy, and CL should be crying for his dead child and supporting his wife instead. Farell says no one tells him what to do and begins insulting Juan. Juan tells him not to go there, but he does anyway, and they end up scrapping despite the nurse's pleas. We end with Juan holding CL smashed up against the wall.
