Acorralada #53. Wed 3/28/07. Diana has definitely gone to the dark side . . .

We open with Gaviota and Octavia confronting each other. Gaviota calls O an assassin. O says who let you in here? O is wearing another one of her Charlie’s Angels halter tops with the very low-cut front.

Caramelo is crying, because she now realizes her husband is a cheating horndog. Lala comes in and Caramelo unloads. She says she saw him with Paola earlier and she knew something was not right. Lala tries to counsel patience. All men are like this. But his true love is you. I told him to leave off with her, but I guess maybe he hasn’t. But give it time. Don’t worry.

Meanwhile, Pancho is sneaking into the shower with Paola.

Gaviota still confronting O.
Caramelo recovers and goes to work. She is wearing the jaunty red sailor hat. Pop is complaining how F/G went over to the mansion.

He calls Diana and tells her. Diana gleefully relays this news to Gaby and Granny M, but they are not so ecstatic. Gaby is worried that Larry and Max are there.

Meanwhile, O and F/G break into a big bitch-slap fest, which becomes a head-butting, neck-choking extravaganza. Now they should call the WWF! It’s a wonder Octave doesn’t spill out of that halter top. Actually, this is a serious fight. I wonder if they used stunt players. They are rolling around on the floor, hitting heads, choking, etc.

At the same time, Max is still knocking on the bedroom door, but Marfil won’t open it. She is trying to get Andres to leave. She finally tells him that she is the real Marfil. He actually believes this immediately and decides he’ll work with her. I’m not your enemy, he says. He leaves, and she lets Max in. He asks what she was doing so as not to answer the door. She has no answer.

The fight escalates, and Granny DS comes in! She starts screaming—come quickly. Now everyone in the house comes running: Max, Larry and Yolanda (who looked like they were having too cozy a chat), and even Paola. (She has to leave off her make-out session with Pancho.) Marfil is wearing a short nightie and robe. Paola is wearing a towel. The family members pull apart the two.
F/G reveals that Octavia has killed Dr. Reynosa. She then leaves. There are many impactada looks.
Granny DS suddenly has a big revelation: She remembers that Horacio loved Fedora, and that Horacio really killed Fedora’s husband. Fedora went to prison wrongly. She cries. My son was a murderer.

Everyone looks at O, who says, don’t give me those accusatory looks.

Diana and Gaby are talking to Paco. They are all worried about F/G’s nutty mission to the mansion.

Granny DS is still crying about her son, and Larry takes her to her room. Paola says she is ashamed to have O as a mother. Marfil wants to comfort Max, but he is having none of it. For once I give credit to this actress, as she made it seems she was acting the Marfil role rather than the Debora role. One by one they all leave the room, as if it’s the end of Act I in a community theater production of You Can’t Take it With You.

Paola goes back to her room, where Pancholon is waiting. She cries that her mother is a swindler, and nothing is really theirs, and her mother is a murderer too.

Bruno is talking to Marfil and calls her Debora, but Marfil answers in a way that makes Bruno realize she may be Real Marfil. Oops! Bruno asks her if she is really Marfil, but Marfil denies it. Of course I’m Debora, she says, and slips into the usual Deborah screech for good measure.

Back in Granny DS’s room, the dolls are strewn everywhere. It is dimly lit. Granny and Larry are huddled on the floor. Granny continues to cry about her perfidious son. Larry actually sheds a tear. It is almost touching.

Pancho continues comforting Paola, but Max knocks at the door. She hurries Pancho out the window without his clothes. Don’t worry, we’ll be married in two days, she says.

Max now comes in. He says he doesn’t know how all this happened. They are a dysfunctional family, says Paola. He tells her not to cry, and he’ll get them out of this mess.

Back at the bar, Gaviota has returned. She is still insisting that she will make Octave confess. Diana thinks she will not be able to.

Bruno is still trying to figure out if Marfil is Marfil. She leaves, and Marfil says to herself that she doesn’t trust that traitorous servant. Bruno goes in the hall and wonders Is it live or is it Memorex?

Octave is pondering her options with Big Doormat. She concludes that she need not worry, because there are only suspicions that can’t be proven.

Pancho sneaks in back home, where Lala is sleeping on the couch and wakes up. He is wearing a towel. She calls him by his real name—Francisco. Now you know he's in big trouble. She is scolding him for his cheating ways. Just like his father, she says. I had a feeling that was the case with the way she keeps advising Caramelo. She says she has warned him for months to stay away from Paola, and she pulls his ear really hard! Only a mother could do that.

Next day already, and we are at the hospital. Guess who is the newest nurse on the floor. If you guessed Diana, you would be right. She’s back to wearing that pink nurse’s uniform. Did we see any lead-up to this? Of course not! She is met by Dr. Evil, who is as surprised as we are. She flirts with him. He tries to lure her into the consulting room. He’s crazy to kiss her! After he turns away, she is revealing her real motive: she will make him pay by discrediting him!

Doc tells Andres about the newest staffer, and Andres immediately calls Max to tell him that Diana’s working at the hospital. We are treated to one of the usual gratuitous shots of Max swimming laps in the pool, exiting the pool in his skimpy bathing suit, and flexing his huge hairless pecs before answering the phone at poolside. Max and Larry must undergo some serious body waxing for their appearances in swimsuits.

Diana now sneaks into the storage room and, wearing gloves, steals a bunch of medications. Then she goes into Doc Evil’s office and puts them in the drawer. An eye for an eye, she says. Here’s where the story really goes wrong. I think this is so out of character for her; they just can’t make me suspend disbelief.

Pilar and Kiki meet on the beach. They make an alliance to separate Larry and Gaby so they could have them for each other.

Max shows up at the hospital and confronts Diana. He is wearing a new ugly sweater. It looks like those cotton waffle-weave long john shirts—but it is pale pink. And as usual it is too tight. Andres stares.

Back in Doc Evil’s office we see that Camila has arrived. I guess she has nothing to do all day but to hang out there. Doc tells her that he just learned Diana is back. He slips into one of his sex-addled reveries about how much he wants her in bed.

Andres says he just saw Max in the hall. Camila wants to call Marfil to tell her that Max is there. Andres calls. Love this round-robin phone calling!

One more round. Bruno tells "Debora" to go tell Diana’s paralyzed husband that his wife is talking to Max.

Diana tells the hospital administrator that she learned that Doc Evil has secreted stolen dangerous drugs in his office. He is a little dubious, but she says she would be incapable of saying such things about such a fine professional man as Dr. Evil. (Uh, does no one remember that just a few months ago Doc Evil accused her of attempted murder?) anyway, he should check it out himself.

Paco tells Gaviota to get a new lawyer, but she says she doesn’t have to because Dr. R had sent the evidence to the court already, and the process will continue to its conclusion.

Camila talks about getting back with Max. Doc Evil goes to take a shower. Camila tells Andre she saw him kissing “Max’s wife” at the party. He wants her to keep quiet.

Gaby now has gone to the beach in a cute bathing suit. She sees Pilar, who wants her to leave. Gaby tells her that the beach is a “free country.” And it’s my day off from the supermarket. Kiki invited me. Now Larry comes up. Pilar says Gaby should stay away from her boyfriend. Gaby says “your boyfriend is my husband!” Larry takes Gaby aside and asks her to move back into the mansion. She smiles.

Back at the hospital, the administrator comes to Doc Evil’s office with a security guard. He is going to search for drugs. Doc Evil puts up his arms as if it were a holdup. They find the drugs! Cut to Diana’s face in the background.

Boy, did you get a juicy episode. The cat-fight was epic – I was slightly disappointed by Octavia’s apparent inability to clock her opponent at close range with vases, lamps, etc., but maybe they weren’t using breakaway props. Also like how you pointed out Maritza Rodríguez’ moment of real acting. That very brief bit reminded me that yes, this is Real Marfil and she might actually love her husband. Thumbs down on Diana's transparent revenge scheme on Dr. Evil. That is a seriously lame plot twist, even for this show.

Maritza Rodriguez is a pretty good actress. You can totally tell the difference from Marfil and Deborah. Marfil, I can handle watching, but as for Deborah, not a chance; she's so annoying! I agree with you both on Diana's revenge, so so lame!
Thanks for the recap! =)
