Destilando Amor--Thursday, April19--This episode brought to you by Mexico's Manufacturers & Purveyors of Fine Lingerie

Rodrigo arrives at the office and Aaron is complaining about his new Minerva-approved secretary, saying she’s not as bad if you compare her with Elvira (what a gentleman). Then Aaron gets down to brass tacks and starts insulting Gaviota, Rodrigo punches his lights out and tells him not to insult the love of his life. Rodrigo tells him, yeah I put her on a pedestal, where she belongs and no one is going to insult her. They decide to put their differences aside and talk business, but first they need a wee nip. While pouring the tequila, Aaron gives Ro the evil eye and his thought bubble lets us know that he considers them enemies now.

Gaviota is preparing to go to corporate to meet with Aaron and Nancy is acting the happy little mouse to her struggling Cinderella, procuring shoes and a handbag from her mom and redoing her hair and makeup.

Isadora’s parents are giving her some sob story about how the economic crisis has hit their business hard and they don’t have two pesos to rub together. They need money and are depending on her help to save them from the crisis.

Pilar tells Sofia that she’s making a storm in a glass of water, referring, of course, to Isadora’s pregnancy and that damn clause in the will. Sofia’s convinced that Aaron will take all the money and kick them out into the street (yeah, he probably will). Pilar isn’t worried since she’s pretty sure Rodrigo will soon tell everyone that he’s also expecting a baby. Sofia’s like, yeah, if it’s the virgin birth since Ro hasn’t gone anywhere near Isadora. Then they bad mouth Gaviota, and comment on how love-blind Rodrigo is. Isadora has to save them all from Gaviota.

Aaron is trying to sell Rodrigo on the idea of some fancy pants 6 year-old tequila in an over-priced bottle of gold and silver. Ro reminds him that daddy-o didn’t like the idea, and Aaron scoffs. Ro reminds him to listen to his dad and the lessons he’s learned while building the company. The new homely secretary delivers a report that Holland wants a big shipment of tequila. They’ll have to ramp up production, and Ro will have to look for new sources of agave. Rodrigo gets up to go and their conversation about Gaviota comes full circle, with Aaron reminding Ro what a great woman Isadora is and Ro telling him that he will probably never see Gaviota again anyway.

When, lo and behold, in walks Gaviota, trying to get a job as Aaron’s secretary. She is told by the receptionist, that he already has a secretary, the homely Genoveva and Gaviota has a worried little thought bubble. Gaviota sees Rodrigo & Aaron leaving and has a woozy moment but recovers and goes to see the HR guy to try and get a job in the company. No luck in HR, but the receptionist helps her to set up a meeting with Aaron.

After a lunchtime appointment getting her talons sharpened, Flavia is back at work and looking for Gaviota. Nancy tells her she had to go to the doctor because of a stomachache, and Flavia answers, we’ll see how her stomach feels after losing two days of pay.

Meanwhile, Minerva is giving the new recruit her first training at Montalvo. She tells her she expects her to let her know about all of the “extracurricular” phone calls that Aaron receives. Genoveva nods obediently, probably wondering how long it will take to find another job where people aren’t completely BSC. Aaron sees Minerva leaving the office and is less than pleased. He pushes her away and then starts barking at her to stay away from the office and leave him alone. She tells him that since she can’t trust him, she can’t leave him in peace. Aaron concedes defeat.

Sofia is shopping with Isadora and trying to steer her to buying the right lingerie…i.e., not the high-necked flannel nightie (one of my personal favorites) but something altogether more skimpy.

Gaviota’s back at the hotel giving Nancy the lowdown about her anticipated meeting with Aaron. Flavia corners her and gives her a good tongue-lashing, but Sr. Good Guy rescues her and she ‘fesses up that she’s looking for a new job. Of course he’s kind and understanding…and gives her a baleful look as she walks away.

The farmworkers are eating dinner and Ramon says that Ro & Izzy are coming back tomorrow. Hilario flashes back to Sor Juana wearing Izzy’s undies (ugh) and them having a quick romp in the patron’s bed when he started daydreaming of Isadora. Oh my….that would break the cardinal rule of a good worker (don’t screw the boss’ wife!). He’s very upset, but Sor Juana comes out and takes his mind off his problems by asking him to buy her some lingerie.

Gaviota goes home and her mom is all worried about the bills. She tells her her plan to meet with Aaron. Her mom is shocked. She tells Gav to pray to the virgin to save her from this stupid plan and all it’s lies. Gav tells her she saw Rodrigo at the office, but that he didn’t see her and not to worry since she heard he’s going back to the ranch. Her mom tells her she’s more stubborn than a mule. Later, being the good daughter that she is, she prays to the virgin for some guidance in her plan.

Aaron tells Minerva all the bad news from his meeting with Rodrigo…namely that he’s still in love with Gaviota.

Ro & Isadora arrive back at the farm. Isadora tells Rodrigo about her father’s money problems. He offers to help. He gets ready to go to his bedroom, but she asks him not to go because she doesn’t want to sleep alone. She changes into her new nightie and invites Rodrigo over to the bed. He comes over but makes a little wall with pillows between them and sleeps on top of the covers. The next morning he has a dream about Gaviota and sneaks out of the bed.

Sr. Good Guy calls Gaviota into his office and decides to reconfess his undying love for her and asks her to marry him. She delivers a little monologue about how she has only seen something like this in telenovelas (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). She tells him that her heart belongs to another, and that she wishes she could erase this other guy from her soul, because he doesn’t deserve it, but she can’t and it would be easier to live without air than to forget about this love.

Rodrigo asks Ramon about Gaviota. The Gav Squad haven’t learned anything.

The receptionist tells Aaron about Gaviota, he tells her to make an appointment for her. He goes into the office with Genoveva and tells Elvira he doesn’t want any impertinent interruptions (I think I’ll start using that phrase with my kids…sounds like a winner.) The receptionist makes an appointment for Gav. Gav and Nancy jump for joy.

Great recap! SanWanna frightens me. There's just way too much of her flowing over the top of her outfits. I am tired of the trumped up suspense about getting to be Aaron's secretary - let's move along now!

Minerva and Aaron are fabulous together.

They're a true power couple. ;)

One thing that made me laugh last night was the scene when Rowdy Roddie woke up in Isadora's bed after having a hot dream about Gaviota. He gets out of bed and hobbles out of the room, most of the time holding a pillow in front of himself except for a brief moment when any potential morning wood is hidden behind a strategically located calla lily.

Or maybe I'm the only pervert here who worries about such things. ;)

I knew that HotRodthe Bod-rigooo and I were true soulmates. Then , last night--proof !!!!---I sleep exactly the same way--on my side with a pilow between my knees [he must have a tricky back, too, on top of his many other problemos.] Anyhoo, he was so cute in his jammies. I liked the way he put the line of throw pillows between Isa and him....what an effective line of defense. Cute.

Why does Gavi want so badly to work for Montalvo Co? There are a lot of companies in Mx DF.
I haven't been watching much until this week, so please be patient with this basic question. I am slowly being won over to this novela.

Isa is so ridiculous looking. Listen, if I were her, I'd tone down my hair color & the Barbarella outfits and go for something more "jimadora" like, or at least a Ralph Lauren "country in the Hamptons" look to snare Rodrigo.
He prefers a natural type of woman. Isa should also exchange that red lingerie for something from organic cotton.

Julie~~~Interesting theory about the pillowholding. Never occurred to me , but that was a good point.

Isa should wear one of HotRod's shirts as a nighty. I had a friend who wore her son's football jersey to a Halloween party, and it drove the guys wild. What's that about??

susanlynn - it's about repressed desires, or happy locker room memories. ;) (teeheehee)

On a totally unrelated topic: if Gavi is Don Amador's hija, then what are the options for her to not be related to Rod, according to telanovela logic? Maybe Don Amador had the same problem as Rod, solved by Clarita. What do you all think?

And why would it be so bad for Clarita to tell Gavi who her daddy is, what's the worst that could happen? They've both had some extracurricular action.

I was thinking about that too. Clarita acted pretty shocked at her daughter getting to "know" the boss, but won't reveal who is the father of her daughter? Trite sayings about pots and kettles and people in glass houses come to mind...

If Gavi is Don Amador's daughter, she's a lot younger than the other siblings (Bruno and Rod's dad), and would have been the product of a liaison that happened after Amador was married.

So if Clarita was the jimadora in the incident with Amador 25 years ago, maybe she would see what she did as worse than Gavi's one night with Rod?

Clarita often seems surprised or shocked by all kinds of things. As people have pointed out before, sometimes she even seems a bit... how to say it politely... "unsophisticated."

I wonder if maybe what happened to her was not an affair, but perhaps something less consensual. :(

(I'm also not 100% clear on why Gavi wants to work for the Montalvos again, so you're not the only one, Anya.)

I've been wondering why work at the Montalvo's, also. Gavi wants to run into Rod again, compete with his family on a more even playing field, or get back at Rod?

Did anyone think it was more than a little weird that Sofia went lingerie shopping with Isa? Yuck!

Wow, I am so glad to get the info on the bed scene..I was a media whore last nite and cheated with "Grey's", I tuned in during the commercial and saw the look of horror on Rod's face as he crept out of bed, then TWB stroking the pillow...I instantly thought of Joselyn and 9 months later...but the whole, yes I'll sleep with you but we have to have a pillow between us. Seriously no one can be that stupid..Yeh Rod I'm talkin to you...it's not the 1930's and you are not in a "Romantic Comedy" skirting around the Hayes Commission..I kinda hate how they have dumbed this guy down...I mean granted he was a VIRGIN, but he has no doubt been listening to Aaron tales since the primos were eleven.

I'm with you, beckster. I cannot believe the naivete of this galan. I guess there are rich rubes like this somewhere in the world still in this day and age of 24/7 media-hyped drugs, sex, and tragedy tv, but they'd have to be living under a rock or in a cave somewhere......in another universe most likely.

I am wondering if Gavi is fixated on the Montalvo's because of their class's way of treating dayworkers like her like a second-class citizen and, having found her sense of self respect and self worth through the help of the nun in London, she's in need of showing them up. This might be a way of meeting up with Rod again to show him what a mistake he'd made by treating her the way he did.

She has a dream of self-improvement which is admirable, but she has set her sights a bit high for the type of education and experience she can bring to the table except in novela-land.

That makes sense, maybe Gavi wants to show Rod how it's done, that she can compete and move ahead without him.

Am I the only one who thinks Flavia is borrowing Tomás Mora's glasses from LFMB?

Pillows as a force field protecting Rod from TWB's lust. Rod is either completely naïve or just an idiot. Glasses make him look smarter, but that's about it...

Rod would be hotter if he took his situation, one that he created, more like a man. I like the slicked back hair, but the glasses just don't do it for me!

LOL! Anyone notice the new secretary recording Aarons conversations with a voice recorder under her jacket

I was confused about that quick shot of the red light and some kind of technology. Is that what it was--the new secretary recording AAron? As for why Gavi is so determined to become AAron's secretary--I think that she wants to get a good job but is too naive to understand that what you really need to do to achieve success involves a long process of training, experience, and climbing up the ranks. However, I think the true reason is that even though she SAYS HotRod is in her past and she must move on, she really still wants the chance to run into him again...have we all been there and done that....Show of hands.^^^Susanlynn

Not me! ;)

Yep, Susanlynn, I've been there and done that many years ago when I was young and not very wise.

Becky T

I also think that Gavi's motivation for wanting to work at Montalvo is to somehow be "closer" to Rod, and maybe hoping their paths will cross when she becomes a big executive type. Of course in real life that path up is way to long, as Susanlynn points out. In novelas and soap operas people gain, lose and regain fortunes, and seem to be able to become whatever they want practically overnight.

I can understand why she wants to work for Montalvo (hand up here), what I can't understand is why she'd want to work specifically for Aaron. Maybe she doesn't know him, but she's seen what he's like.

I've been watching Flavia and I could swear it's
Dustin Hoffman repeating his "Tootsie" performance,
if anone is old enough to remember.
Thanks for the recaps.
