I can't believe that I have the intimidating task of recapping the first episode! I'll do my best, and feel free to correct me if I miss anything important.
The opening scene is an aerial view of a large meeting room where people are seating themselves. A narrator is saying to himself that when he was a boy his grandfather told him that in moments of crisis the heart breaks or "se curte" (is tanned?) He looked at his grandfather but didn't know what to say, and his grandfather told him that he must repeat every morning "Stay calm, Diego, Stay calm, the luck is thrown."
A young blonde girl in pig tails begins a presentation in front of the crowd that's formed. She's adorable as she welcomes the crowd and tells them that the words she's about to say are from her heart, and they are for all of them, especially her Azul and her Papa. She begins a very adult sounding speach, and we hear Azul tell Mauricio with a smile that the words must have been his because they're not the words of a child. The girl describes how sad she was when her mother died in a car accident, and that Azul is not her mama, but she loves her very much. Azul melts when she hears this, and the crowd claps.
Next we're transported to a living room where Azul and Mauricio are watching a video of the little girl's speech. The little girl is Caty, and Azul is telling Mauricio how touched she was by the girl's words. He's telling her about his plans to win over her father by showing him how much he admire's Azul. Besides, he plans to offer him a job. Azul doesn't think that it will be that easy.
At a pool hall, a handsome young man with a mop of dark curls arrives and is greeted with calls of "Diego!" So this is the famous Diego, one of the show's main characters. He tells his friends Isela and Paco that Valeria has left him, and she hasn't been paying the rent, even though he's been giving her money. She also took the money he was saving to buy a new car, so he has nowhere to go and no money. Isela convinces Paco to let him stay with them.
We move on to a cramped and cluttered house where Azul is preparing coffee for her papa, Alfredo. She's upset that she feels like she has to make an appointment at his laboratory to see him, and she wants him to meet her boyfriend. She can't introduce her novio to her mother, who's dead, or her sister, who's in Brazil. The guilt trip works and Alfredo agrees to the meeting.
Meanwhile, Paco is cleaning out some space for Diego to sleep. Diego promises to only stay a day or two, because he knows that it's putting Paco out. Next we see him sleeping soundly as the alarm clock goes off. He calls his dad, who's aggravated that he's calling while he's with a client. Diego tells him that he's coming to visit him and mama later today, and asks him to tell his mama. Papa (Manuel) agrees and quickly hangs up the phone.
Diego tries to hail a cab but allows a young blonde woman to take it, and flags down another cab. Oh, what a gentleman!
Azul is drying her hair, much to the annoyance of her roommate Cecilia, who's trying to sleep. Azul tells her that she's leaving soon, and she'll be able to sleep all she wants. Besides - civilized people sleep at night, not during the day! She teases her by jumping on the bed on her way out.
Diego arrives at work, where he's obviously adored by all. Even though his heart is broken and he's homeless, he has a big smile on his face for his coworkers. He chats with the tailors and tries to get one of them to finish an order for one of his clients before his other orders, but the tailor refuses and tells him to do it himself if he wants. Diego pulls out an ancient looking sewing machine and gets to work.
Meanwhile, Mauricio is having trouble with the lab in Germany - they're asking for too much money. He tells Andres to get them to lower their price or they'll find another lab. Dramatic violins tell us that there's more to this scene than a simple dispute over costs... Mauricio storms out and runs into Leonarda who wants to know why he's upset. He says it's because he's nervous about meeting his future father in law. She tells him about all of the wonderful desserts they'll have, but it's not prepared yet. He asks her if the lab is okay, because the meat can be dry and hard, but the lab can't be bad. ??? She assures him that it's fine. He tells Andres to get Benjamin, he needs to talk with him.
Apparently Benjamin is one of his scientists, and he relieves him of his duties as they walk around the pool. Benjamin is impactado, but Mauricio walks away so that he can greet Azul and Alfredo.
Back to Diego, where he's telling Paco that he'll stay with his parents for a few days while he gets some money together. He makes it sound like it's all arranged, but when Paco leaves, he calls his parents and tells them that he's coming over because he just wants to talk with them. Perhaps Diego doesn't expect a warm reception from the padres?
We break for commercial and when we return we see Diego arrive at his parents house with a big smile on his face, only to have it wiped away by his father's harsh words. When Diego asks if he can stay for a few days, Papa (Manuel) asks him if he's crazy and to stop talking stupid. Diego is impactado.
In the next scene, Diego is having dinner with his padres, and when papa excuses himself from the table, his mama (Clemencia) asks if he's really going to be staying with them for a few days. He says that he is, and she offers to prepare his room for him. Paco arrives, apparently with plans to paint Diego's room, but Manuel says that he's a waiter, not a painter, and he's not painting in his house. Paco doesn't pay any attention to Manuel's bitter comments, and proceeds to snuggle with his novia Lidia, who's Diego's sister.
Azul and Mauricio are trying to have a friendly conversation with Alfredo, but he's not playing nice. He doesn't seem to be interested in getting to know his new son in law and Azul is nervously fidgeting with her heart shaped necklace. Alfredo is more interested in hearing about Mauricio's lab than his interests in Azul. Caty comes running to greet Azul, and distracts Azul and Alfredo while Andres lets Mauricio know that Benjamin is still there and wants to talk to Mauricio because he thinks that Mauricio plans to replace him with Alfredo. Mauricio tells him that Benjamin is just a biochemist, while Alfred has won national awards.
Mauricio, Azul, and Caty give Alfredo a tour of the grounds, but Azul and Caty excuse themselves to allow the men to talk.
Benjamin is still hanging around. Andres tells him to return on Wednesday for his money. Benjamin tells him that he's going to ask for an explanation for his dismissal.
Alfred tells Mauricio that it would be better to buy a book because his experience is very expensive, but Mauricio assures him that money doesn't worry him. They enter the lab, where Azul has joined them. Mauricio offers Alfredo a job in his lab. We go to commercial before we hear Alfred's response.
After the break, we see Alfredo thanking Leonarda for the visit, along with Caty. Azul is saying good bye to Mauricio and thinking him for everything.
Diego is unpacking and talking to his mom about what Valeria did. Mom feels guilty about what's happened, but Diego convinces her that everything's fine - it will be like a vacation to stay there.
Azul is driving Alfredo home and listening to him talk about how bad the dinner was. He didn't understand why they didn't go to a restaurant where the dishes would have been prepared properly. Anyway, everything went well. Mauricio is an ambitious type, and he likes money. It doesn't sound like Azul's papa is thrilled with her novio.
Diego is preparing a sandwich while his mama gets his room ready when Manuel enters and hassles him about how ridiculous it is for him to be staying there. He tells him that he knows he has a job, but he needs to have a little dignity. He has no future, nothing, he hasn't used the opportunities he's been given. He's almost 30 and he's nobody and he will die a nobody. His moving back home is a nightmare for his parents. Pobre de Diego is speechless and looks heartbroken.
Cecilia and Azul are having breakfast when Cecilia reminds Azul that she needs to pick up Mauricio's suit. Cecilia is worried because Azul hasn't been dating Maurcio for long, but is doing things for him that she hasn't done for anyone. Azul responds that he's done a lot for her, and that's how it works when you're in love, then runs off to pick up the suit. We breeak for commercial.
After the commercial, we're transported to Mauricio's office where he's telling someone that Toscano (Alfredo) is tough, but he know that this isn't the last word. He'll change his mind.
Diego's at work, but he's not his usual happy self. One of the tailors tries to chat with him and finds that he's very short tempered and jumpy (like water for chocolate), so he leaves him alone. Azul is knocking at the door but Diego won't answer. She calls him on the phone and begs him to open the door, but he refuses. Finally he turns to face her and changes his mind. He goes to open the door for her and we have one of those super dramatic telenovela moments where we know that it's love at first sight for both of them. She tells him that she's in a hurry and asks if he will help her, but he tells her no, because she is a liar. Credits roll.
