Destilando Amor - 9/6/2007 A toast to the ghosts; Isa blows Rod a devil kiss; Rod discovers his rival for Gavi

EPISODE - Sept. 6, 2007:
* Clarita talks with Gavi about Alonso, and Mami thinks he would make a great partner for Gavi (hint-hint). Gavi is shocked by the insinuation and says he's her boss, nothing more. Mami knows how Gavi feels about Rod, but thinks she should give Alonso a chance. Gavi thinks Mami has been watching too many telenovelas again. Mami continues. Gavi recalls Alonso's rant of jealousy at the office about Rod.

* Rod and James talk at the hacienda office. Isa interrupts. James leaves. Rod goes back to desk to work. He asks if she has everything ready to leave with him. She surprises him, she's staying at the hacienda using the excuse that she gets so lonely at the condo with no one to talk with. Rod is shocked. Isa warns Rod not to try to deceive him behind her back or he'll be 'playing with fire'. She blows him a kiss and leaves.

* Gavi and Clara get ready for bed and continue discussing the differences between Alonso and Rod.

* Rod goes with his horse to visit his grandpa and papa's graves in the agave field family cemetery. He tells them about his new project that he's totally thrilled about. He pours three glasses of the new organic tequila at the gravesites. He toasts them with the tequila. He dumps two of the glasses out on the graves and with the third, he crosses himself and then drinks it. He listens to the wind howl and watches as the candles are blown out.

* Gavi, with her eyes open, remembers meeting Rod in the agave field. She murmurs to herself, "Rod, always, always, you will be my great love."

* Rod arrives at the office. Elvira tells him there's someone waiting in his office. He is excited to see sister Dani waiting for him. She's brought the papers with Gavi's lipstick imprints on them. Dani tells him about the tequila deliveries to Gavi and Alonso. Rod is anxious and presses Dani for information on Alonso - Dani is reluctant to go into detail. Rod continues to press. Dani makes him swear to keep calm and not have a tantrum. Rod promises. Dani tells him that Alonso is "interested" in Gavi.

* Gavi is going nuts with work papers. She looks over and sees Alonso staring at her and asks what's up? Alonso answers. She offers to get the tequila (?) - he says bring two glasses. She goes to get it.

* Dani continues to tell Rod about Gavi and Alonso's relationship at the office. Rod is nervous, anxious and paranoid about Alonso - he asks for more details about the guy. Dani tells him that Alonso is a gentleman and is enchanting. Rod is impactado. Dani stops him as he starts to have a tantrum and makes him think about the relationship he wants with Gavi.

* Isa and Sofia watch little Rico in the hacienda living room and discuss Isa's constant paranoia over Rod and Gavi. Sofia feels alone also. Pancho comes into the living room. Sofia goes to get his breakfast. Isa and Pancho watch Rico - Isa remarks to the baby that Pancho is his father - Pancho tells her to hush-up about that - Isa remarks about Pancho's double life with Sofia as her ever-loyal hard-working husband. Sofia comes in with breakfast tray and asks where he would like to eat it. Pancho answers. Sofia leaves. Pancho and Isa end their discussion (for now). He leaves.

* Rod meets with Nestor in his office at Montalvo Corp. Rod reveals to Nestor what he wants in the separation/divorce documents and what measures he wants to provide for his son, Rico. Nestor is uneasy and concerned. Rod reveals that he plans to get back together with Gavi.

* Gavi and Susie talk in the reception area. Susie leaves. Nancy answers the phone. It's Rod. Gavi tells Nancy to do something for work and goes to her office. Gavi picks up the phone and Rod thanks her for the kiss imprints and then asks her out on a date. She can't tonight, she has to work. How about tomorrow? No good, she has to work - big conference coming up. Rod is totally deflated and disappointed. Gavi asks why is it so important they have to meet on a date. Rod says he needs to talk with her, it's about their future together - but if she's that busy... Gavi reluctantly comes up with a compromise - she will call him later if she has some free time available. He agrees.

* Rod and the graphics designers are going over the latest rendition of the label for the new tequila, "Ardiente Pasion". Rod takes one of the kiss imprints from his desk and thinks it should go on the label also. The designers look at him like he's crazy - it may have to be done by hand, they reason. Rod says whatever it takes - he wants it on the label. They leave to get to work.

* Gavi works on her computer. Nancy enters her office with the guest list for conference. Gavi notices that Montalvo Corp. is on the list and questions why? Nancy explains they are a foreign distributor. Alonso enters to talk with Gavi about a special event tonight. Gavi, surprised, agrees to it. Alonso leaves - as he passes Nancy's desk, he tells Nancy to get Gavi's mom on the phone for him (it's a surprise for Gavi). Nancy calls Clara at home, puts her through to Alonso - Alonso invites Clara to a special surprise dinner for Gavi tonight. Clara is delighted.

* Isa talks with SWB at the hacienda. SWB fills Isa in on Hilario's new job as a model. SWB leaves; Isa is amazed by Hilario's sudden rise from ranch-hand to model.

* Hilario is in a meeting with Casandra - Casandra fills him in on his latest modeling assignment. Hilario tells her about his worries - over his landlord and his parents not supporting his modeling career.

* Gavi calls her mama at home - they discuss Alonso's surprise dinner arrangements and what mama should wear. As Alonso enters her office, Gavi hangs up and asks him about dinner with her mom and him. Alonso explains his motive without giving away any details. Gavi just doesn't want to get her mama's hopes up. Alonso assures her.

* Rod is presented the new design for the label - he is thoroughly enchanted that the designer put Gavi's kiss on the label. Rod thanks the designer for the work - they shake. The designer leaves Rod alone with the design.

* James and Crispin discuss his late night rendezvous with Pancho and what Rod may do if he found out. Crispin gets nervous and promises James to stop. James leaves. Pancho approaches and asks Crispin where they're going tonight. Crispin says nowhere. Pancho asks why. Crispin explains about Rod. Pancho still wants to leave tonight. Crispin refuses to go anywhere and leaves. Emilio approaches and tells Pancho the bad news about an agave problem. Pancho is concerned but comes up with a way to cover.

* Elvira, at the office, is on the phone with Isa, at the hacienda. Elvira fills Isa in on Rod's activities and meetings all day in his office (with Dani and Nestor). Rod pops his head out of his office and listens as Elvira relates to Isa about his calendar of events. Rod sneaks up and shocks Elvira when he takes the phone from her. With phone in his hand, Rod tells Elvira to get him something to drink then gets on the phone to a paranoid Isa - Rod scolds Isa for going behind his back to keep tabs on him. Isa tries to explain - Rod won't accept the explanation and is angry with her. They hang up. At the hacienda, Sofia enters and Isa vents her frustration with who Rod met with at the office - Sofia feels sorry for her. At the office, Elvira pleads her own defense to Rod - Rod is angry and won't accept it. He fires her, starting first thing in the morning.

* Gavi calls Rod to tell him that something's come up tonight and they will have to meet tomorrow morning. Rod's upset but agrees. She rushes off the phone.

* On the hacienda patio, Sofia tries to calm and assure Isa. Isa's paranoia is in full-throttle mode and she just lost her primary source of information on Rod. James approaches to tell Sofia that Pancho left for the evening on business. Sofia is disappointed but understanding. She invites Isa to join her and James for dinner. Isa turns down the offer.

* Rod spies on Gavi and Alonso leaving the agri. commission office together. He's impactado.

Thanks for your quick recap JR. Elvira finally got fired!! I am kind of shocked but very pleased. I guess we'll have to wait a while longer for traitor Susie to go as well.

Does anyone really believe Frankie cares for Isa? I think Frankie only loves Frankie and will leech on any woman who will provide for the lifestyle he believes he deserves.

Yes, Frankie loves Frankie!

Finally Elvira got the ax and so well deserved. Let's hope Rod doesn't feel sorry for her and change his mind. He's such a loser, with his jealous rages. Gavi needs a job, remember? From the previews, it looks like he makes a fool of himself again in public.

Gavi's work clothes are so much better lately. Except for her bouffant extensions, she looks more professional...

I don't know if Frankie loves Isa or not, but I think he's excited to have a son in spite of himself. And it's totally true (as someone pointed out yesterday) that he and Isa are kindred spirits, so maybe there's still hope for them to be a couple and go away and leave everyone else alone.

I thought it was pretty nervy of Rod to warn Isa not to play with fire. I mean, his concern is justified, but on the other hand, the next thing he does is ask Gaviota out on a date, so... so just grow up already and get divorced! If that's what he wants to do anyway, he doesn't need to discuss it with Gavi first... or he SHOULDN'T need to...

Oh, I have another minute to spout off...
Rod's a coward and a hypocrite! He's married and yet yelling at Gavi for not having time for him exactly when he wants it. He's spoiled and selfishly concerned with only his needs, and doesn't have the guts to do what needs to be done to get it. He wants a guarantee first that Gavi hasn't loved anyone else and will love only him whenever he gets around to getting a divorce. I feel better now...

byebye Elvira, can't wait for Susie to be found out, too. It so irritates me that Rod and Gavi communicate soooo poorly, i think because they remind me of myself with my own lady. The goofy Frankie- right after being called on the carpet for his expenses scemes to sell 1/2 of the magical copper sulfate to fund his philandering. Do we need to speculate as to what's going to happen to the Motalvo's agave now that it is in his stewardship? One comment on Isa- she has been looking so much hotter, with the toned-down clothes, curld hair, and more frequent smile. She is becoming crazier, tho. Calling Frankie the father, even in private w/him; and her increasing paranoia. Things are really going to heat up now....

how wierd was the tequila toasting in thegraveyard, and who set up the bar? What was that bright light that came on after the wind blew out the candles? Rod didn't move, did someone walk in front of the motion detector?

Thanks for the quick, excellent recap. I for one thought that Elvira's firing was almost anti-climactic. She should have been electrocuted at an Estee Lauder makeup counter (she obviously took makeup lessons from Harriet Meiers! (sorry HM), or maybe had an allergic reaction and suffocated on a ginormous swollen tongue... something peewee hermanish, or hermanesque, or maybe choke on a taco de lengua. the pink slip just doesn't do her justice....

I think Rod looks like an enormous chipmunk with the bad 'do and glasses. Theodore, not Alvin. What happened to our hunka burning love? (JB-- you are right-- Rod is a big hypocrite baby, sexist too who cannot stand being around a woman who works and won't drop everything to be the other woman).

The agave problem referenced in the recap is serious and has gotta be Frankie's downfall (bomb ticking...) He was alerted to a scamster who gets paid to treat the agave for the dreaded plaga, but only applies halfers, and pockets the rest. Frankie wants to do bidness with Senor Scam, thus risking the health of the Montalvo crop. I s'pose that's one way to "earn" cash, now that the Rod has closed the big Montalvo wallet on lover-boy Frankie.

JB-- it's true that Gavi's clothes have gotten much better, except for that suit she had on a day or two ago -- you know, the one with the raggedy edges that had some sparkly sequins. The sparkles seemed demasiado. Ok, I admit it I am being a little catclaw on that.

W---Wow...I like your style---Elvira electrocuted at the Estee Lauder counter,,,fitting,,,very fitting. As for the cemetery tribute with the organic tequila, I kind of liked that. I agree about Rod being stupid and childish about the whole Gavi/Isa/ divorce thing , but...he's still hot. It is what it is. And, yes, Isa is looking better. The new haircut makes her look prettier and softer. However, she holds that poor little babe like he is a load of laundry...not that Isa has ever ACTUALLY done or even held a load of laundry. I guess that maternal instinct does not always kick in. Frankie is on borrowed time....tick...tick...tick. It's like the crocodile with the watch in his belly in Peter Pan that follows Catain Hook around. You'd think that Frankie would be shaking in his Armani after Rod had that meltdown at the table about his spending, but...no...he's still looking to live the high life some way , some how...now THAT'A really stupid. Frankie does not understand about keeping a low profile. All I'm saying is that Isa and Frankie should not be going near any Estee Lauder counters either.

JR - Thanks for the recap, I am sooooo obsessed with this TN, I can't wait for 7PM each night, I tape it for weekend review and see it again at 10 each night, so how's that for over the top???
VV - Thanks to you for the Estee Lauder counter image. I totally wanted something much more catastrophic to happen to Elvira. I am so incensed by the Susie and Elvira brand of traitorous office management. I too wait for a zapato to fall on Susie's smirky face. Maybe sweet suffering Nancy will get to even the score.
The copper sulfate incident was a little sad in that just as Crispin pulls away from Frankie's naughty games, poor naive looking Basilio gets sucked into a backdoor resale scam. And I agree with Anon. that this will come back like a tsunami since they have spent so much time building scenes on fighting the insect and mold plagues at the CRT. Rod is just out of control with his raging but I loved the graveside toast and salute to Abuelo and Papi. Nice moment of fidelity remembered. And the label is truly beautiful with the sexy lips added.

Yes, I loved the graveyard scene as well....although I winced a bit as he poured out that lovely tequila onto the grave stone (although when we have leftover communion wine from taking it to the homebound, we are instructed to pour the remainder in the earth)....well, anyway, I digress.
I thought the "light coming on" was on purpose...as a sign from God or Papa and Abuelo that Rod's endeavors in organic tequila would be blessed.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Judy B.

Elvira...bwaaaahhhhaaa
Frankie only cares for Frankie...sorry Isa, looking for love in all the wrong places. Of all the men only Hil really cared for her. Hil reminds me of John Travolta in Grease, with the black outfits and curly ducktail. Hil is not the brightest bulb on the marquee though, sometimes he gives off the Clarita slow vibe.

Since they’re babbling on about “Organic Agave, i.e. the tequila named Ardent Passion”, maybe they ought to be glad that the copper sulfate is not being applied—it being a fungicide and preservative and all. Maybe the organic part just applies to what they do after harvest—they let it ferment naturally I guess (is there another way?). Frankie is never going to get the idea of working, he is a parasite, and a successful one so far.

I agree that Rod has his nerve expecting Gavi to ditch work and jump to his whim when he snaps his fingers, but oh, no, she can’t have a social life or have a guy look at her with interest without him blowing a gasket. What part of “You’re married, she’s not” doesn’t he get? It looks like what he really has wanted all along is a socially respectable marriage and Gavi on the side. All of his excuses for not divorcing are totally lame. But it keeps the show going on. P.S. I kind of like the new Rod “do”. I gives him quite a different look. JudyG

I was kind of hoping Rod would accidently strangle Elvira when he snatched the phone away from her but no such luck. I hope the firing sticks which might give sneaky Susie something to think about.

So once again we have a classic novela line - I'm calm variation I'll stay calm immediately before something is said that sets off another juvenile tantrum.

Rod is exhibiting the usual novela galan behavior, I want what I want, when I want it. He has virtually no concern for Gavi, putting pressure on her to go out with him when he is still married and living in the same house with Isa. Frankly in my circles women who go out with married men are sluts but I guess Gavi gets a pass since she is our poor beleaguered heroine. As my old grandmother would have said Rod needs to piss or get off the pot and I see no sign he is willing to do it. Oops I take that back he did tell Nestor to start drawing up the papers but it will be interesting to see if he does anything about it.

I thought James was in charge of the agave at the hacienda. I can't believe Rod would be so stupid as to give FF that much responsibility.

Yay! Rod finally fired Elvira's sorry butt!!!! About time! Can't wait for Susie's turn! Will SHE feel stupid to have been duped by the Brujas!

And yes, jb, Rod is forgetting that he is STILL MARRIED and that Gav can do whatever she wants. Make him jealous, Gav!

Many good comments, thorough recap greatly appreciated. Although I'm happy Elvira was fired, I wanted some sort of roasting-over-the coals slow torture for her, ending with cutting out her lying tongue. OK, that's probably too gruesome, but I do want her to suffer. Rod does need a little dose of common sense. With Frankie's schemes and the financial peril hanging over the agave crop and the hacienda, it will take miracles from the graveyard spirits and Meester James to save the crop and output.
I know Acacia isn't everyone's favorite character, but I can't help wondering how she's doing back at the institution.

I too really liked Acacia in the beginning. I think she has a profound native Mexican beauty and grace about her. Unfortunately, the script for her robs her of most of her dignity, guess they just can't figure out how to get rid of her any other way so James can pathetically pay attention to the ridiculous Sofie who doesn't deserve his loyalty. Part of me is enjoying the humiliation that Frankie globs on her every day.

JudyG - just to clear things up: Frankie is in charge of only the regular agave, and only the regular agave is supposed to be getting sprayed.

Meester James is in charge of the organic stuff, which is finally maturing this year. That stuff is not getting sprayed.

I think just punishment for some of these folks would be to strap them down and make them listen to Clarita expound on the meaning of life via her telenovelas, with her doe-eyed simpleton explanation about everything. I think Aaron's head might explode.

Marg. in MN

Rod (in another extremely) short sited move...mortgaged everything to the hilt, on dear old father-in-law...I think that loan is the reason he hasn't dumped Isa..I'm sure this is a moot point however, cause Ricardo is never gonna pay

Oh Beckster, I'm glad you mentioned the loan. I must've missed that Rod mortgaged everything to give Ricardo the loan! And Rod went to Cambridge...
jb

This is an excellent recap. Thanks JR for all your time and effort.
Hooray for one witch down and a few more to go. Let's not stop now. Cherylnewmex, I love your comment "I am so incensed by the Susie and Elvira brand of traitorous office management. I too wait for a zapato to fall on Susie's smirky face". I feel bad in advance for what's going to happen to the agave now that it's in Pancho's hands. I guess that when the good guys finally run out of bad luck the series will be over.

Sorry to note that our formerly charming gigolo is morphing into a villain almost as dark as Aaron. His scheme with the copper sulfate strikes directly at the heart of all that Rod holds sacred--besides Gavi.

Thanks for the re-cap JR.
CherylyNewMex- I too think that Acacia is a beautiful girl. However the Mister James, Mister James cry is damn annoying. But, I digress.I started watching novelas
in Oct.2006 W/ LFMB. I was and still am shocked, to see how many
white looking people, Dominate the roles of prominence.Everyone is beautiful in their own right. However, When I began watching. I was sadden at what I saw. It seems to me that the beautiful native looking people are almost alway in less prominent roles. I LOVE Novelas. Still, it's sad to see racism alive and doing well even in
my guilty pleasure.Telenovela Land.
Sad in PA

I think Rod looks better with his new do. However, I don't think he deserves to be with Gavi because he has become a hostage to Isa. On the other hand, I think Gavi and her boss have a chemistry together and I would like to see a relationship develop between them.

I think Rod's new Do is cute as well. Rod and Gavi good. Gavi and
Dr. Coffeehound better. Isa and Frankie a match made in hell.

Thanks, J.R.!

Interesting to note the "let them eat cake" attitude of Isa and Sofia re: Elvira's getting canned after her "loyalty". Bet she didn't get any of Susie's $$ perqs either.

Marg. in MN: I like the way you think! But I still want Fedra and Aaron to get run over by a pie truck after the torture is finished. (And then when the doctors open 'em up to transplant their hearts, they discover that they don't have half a heart between them.)

there's always an ALDO lover amongst us.

This gets frustrating. I know that Rod has started to make arrangements for a divorce. But Hey!. He is married and he even sleeps in the bed with his wife. He even kisses her hello and goodby. What is gavi to do. She has no one but her dreams of rod. She sleeps by herself and she kisses her mother hello and goodby. Is this fair to gavi? then Rod gets pissed like tonight Friday night, cause she is out with her mom and Mr. Doctor. I don't see his rational????

I too like the chemistry between gav and Mr. Doctor. however, since from the beginning, Gav and Rod had this chemistry, I can't wait for them to finally "get it on". together. It does get frustrating with Rod's anger at gav having a life, when he could have left esa loooooong ago and have that life with gav.

Does anyone know how much longer Destilando has to go. I think it has been on since Mundo de Fieras ended. Was that May 2007?

Yep i like Rod's hair too, it take's a few years off him and suites his roll of the young n handsome galan...

Hilario appeared to be sporting a bronzer on his face was weird or maybe ma needs adjusting.

Frankie doesn't love anybody but Frankie and i dnt think his capable of loving Isa's baby.

*Hani*
