La Traicion, Tue., Mar 18 - Soledad saves Hugo, Enrico looks for a flower

We open with Hugo in the river and Soledad troubled by a nightmare caused by their psychic connection. Hugo manages to get to the riverbank but he has a catalepsy attack. When Hugo didn't return, the doctor notified the police and they are all searching for Hugo. They find him, apparently dead, on the riverbank. The doctor tries heart massage to no avail and eventually he decides Hugo is dead and he orders that Hugo's body be brought to his laboratory in town. They leave to get help moving Hugo's body.

Meanwhile, Hugo has determined that the only thing that can help him is Soledad. He reaches out to her and asks for her help. She is beside him psychically and her kiss brings Hugo around just as the doctor and the police return. The doctor is surprised but doesn't appear to suspect the nature of Hugo's illness.

Back in Soledad's bedroom, Ursula is anxiously monitoring Soledad's nightmare, which, from what she is saying, obviously involves Hugo. That witch Antonia barges in and wants to wake Soledad up. Fortunately, Ursula holds her off until Soledad has helped Hugo. The witch is determined to make Soledad forget Hugo. Dr. Max comes to see Soledad and it appears he is going to be the doctor for her pregnancy. The purpose of this visit is made clear when Dr. Max overhears Soledad tell Ursula to bring food to Los Burque. Now, he knows where they are.

Los Burque run in terror from the resurrection of Jeremias but later spend the night in the master bedroom of the Hacienda where they are discovered by Boris and Marina. Boris wants to sell the hacienda and he needs Los Burques to put up for sale signs and show the place so he doesn't throw them out. Dr. Max is hiding in the bushes outside the Hacienda and overhears Boris says that it is time for him and Marina to return their 'patron'. He now knows that Hugo is alive and is determined to find him.

Jeremias tells Enrico that the first step of his mission to help Soledad and her baby is to kill Antonia. Oh sorry, that would be my idea of helping Soledad. Jeremias tells Enrico to find a beautiful orchid in the forest.

Presumably to raise money, Rebeca proposes putting on a show at the local taverna. It turns out that Jeremias took her out of a whorehouse. For some reason, this project involves Lucas. Rebeca putting the moves on Lucas is witnessed by Hercu-less and puts him in a jealous rage. He gets drunk and attacks Lucas.

Back at the river, Hugo and the police find the cabin where Fabio is holding Beatriz. As one would expect, Beatriz was furious that Fabio messed up her plan to marry Hugo. She makes it clear that she considers him a low-life loser. The police attack the cabin while Hugo somehow manages to sneak inside the cabin and get the drop on Fabio. Hugo does a fancy reholstering of his gun and heaves Fabio out the window of the cabin into a hail of bullets. Beatriz swoons away, probably for effect.

Back in the hospital, Beatriz wants Hugo to fulfill his promise to marry her as soon as possible. The doctor takes Hugo aside and tells him that Beatriz' whole 'about to die' thing is a lie and that she bribed the nurse. Hugo looks like a giant weight has been lifted off him and he leaves the hospital.

Finally Boris and Marina show up. They give Hugo an edited version of what they were up to - leaving out receiving the Hacienda from Soledad and consummating their relationship. Hugo gives them an edited version of what he has been up to. When Hugo wants to talk about his illness, Boris sends Marina out. Hugo tells Boris to find a doctor who had tried to help his father, a Dr. von Sirac. Hugo says that he can't be dependent for his health on the love of a woman who betrayed him. And with this profoundly illogical conclusion, Dr. Max draw his sword outside Hugo's room (against 2 guys with guns - who do you think will prevail?)

Soledad goes to visit Hugo's tomb. It will be the last time because she has agreed not to go there for the remainder of her pregnancy for health reasons. Soledad pays the cemetery guard to put flowers on Hugo's grave and after she leaves the evil Antonia pays the guy not to do so. Why should she care if Soledad isn't going to go to the tomb? We can guess that when Hugo ultimately comes back, he will interpret the lack of any attention to his grave as an proof of the fact that Soledad doesn't care about him.

Thanks Jean-I was laughing about Dr. Max and his short sword too.

I'm wondering what significance this special flower has.

I like your version of Enrico killing Antonia much better-LOL! Antonia makes Esther look kinda nice...

At a third of the way through the story, Hugo certainly is starting to look really stupido! I was relieved when he didn't marry Beatriz but he certainly looked happy to see Soledad. I just don't get why he wants to hold on to her "betrayal"? Just wondering, also, if Antonia is Lucas sister or Esther's?
Thanks again ladies for your help!

God forbid that I should impose any logic on a novela but this disconnect between what Hugo knows and believes regarding Soledad is annoying.

Here is what Hugo said to the doctor at the hospital in Friday's episode:

-Usted que conoce tanto a las personas, explíqueme cómo es posible que haya mujeres tan falsas, pero tan falsas, capaces de simular a la perfección amor genuino por uno hombre.

- You, who know so much about human nature, explain to me how it is possible that there are women so false, I mean so incredibly false, that they are capable of simulating genuine love for a man to perfection?

So Hugo believes that Soledad pretended and is still pretending that she loves him.

And here is what Hugo said to Boris about how Soledad saved him:

-¡Sólo bastó que se acercara! Y con un dulce beso me regresó a la vida –suspira- ¡el amor que siento por Soledad una vez más... me regresa a la vida!

She only had to come near me! And with a sweet kiss returned me to life! [sigh] The love that I feel for Soledad once again ... returned me to life!

[Dialog from Mabouchita's transcription of the dialog of each episode on TW. My translation.]

Based on these two statements of Hugo, could we suggest that Hugo believes that Soledad pretended to love him and for some reason is still pretending to do so. He was so hurt by the apparant betrayal of her marrying Alcides that he isn't going to believe anything she says or does in spite of the evidence that she does in fact love him.

But regardless of what Hugo believes about Soledad's feelings, he still loves her and therefore she has the power through his love to save him from the catalepsy. He doesn't want to have to depend on this for the future however, hence the decision to seek out this Dr. von Sirak.

BTW, this Dr. von Sirak is almost certainly the new love interest for Soledad to be portrayed by Ismael de la Rosa mentioned in an earlier posting.

Antonia is Lucas' sister.

More info on the flower from the Telemundo website's teaser for tonight's episode:

Dr. Max knows that the exotic blue flower could be the cure for catalepsy that Hugo needs so much, the same flower that will be given to Soledad.

I also forgot to mention in the summary of last night's episode that Soledad goes to visit Hugo's tomb. It will be the last time because she has agreed not to go there for the remainder of her pregnancy for health reason. Soledad pays the cemetery guard to put flowers on Hugo's grave and after she leaves the evil Antonia pays the guy not to do so. Why should she care if Soledad isn't going to go to the tomb. We can guess that when Hugo ultimately comes back, he will interpret the lack of any attention to his grave as an proof of the fact that Soledad doesn't care about him.

What about Alcides? He doesn't get a grave?

Evidently Alcides gets no grave because there is no body to put in it. Either Dr. Max found it before anyone else did, or he is still alive --- out there, somewhere....

You don't have to have a body to have a grave. People lost at sea or whose bodies can't be recovered have graves. Graves are to remember the dead for the living, not necessarily just to store bodies.

I am sure Alcides is still alive and will turn up at the end of the novela.

Then I guess Alcides has nobody that wants to remember him. You would think that Esther would have done something once he was declared dead, since she is so obsessive about what is socially proper and what everyone thinks of her and her family, and because she wants everyone to believe that Alcides is the father of Soledad's child.

I think that the real reason we haven't had any memorial services or tombstones for Alcides is that it wouldn't advance the story. If Hugo is going to come back as Alcides (and I sure hope he isn't going to adopt Alcides' hairstyle) then there's no point in wasting time and money filming such such an event.

What's this about a new love interest for Soledad??? She has been absolutely faithful to El Stupido, ignored and even committed because of her love for this man and now they're going to give our hero a real reason to suspect poor Soledad? Oh, my! How will this all end??

It will end happily, of course! It's a novela but there will be a lot of suffering in the meanwhile.
