Fuego En La Sangre #85, Tues. 8/26 - Will It Be 4 Weddings and a Funeral Or 4 Funerals and A....

The night begins with the usual repeats: Rosario, resisting the pinching and pushing and threats from Feo to return to work or else! When everyone finds out why she was in jail, they will reject her. She assures him she will come out ahead of Feo if he insists on menacing her and all the truth comes out.

Feo and Gabi discuss their wedding which Feo thinks will be all that Gabi could possibly want. She assures him she wants everything! Most of all she wants him to distance himself from Raquel. Feo tries his sweet talking on Gabi until they definitely crash through the canvas and easel in the lusty scene. Best picture of the week for Gabi?

Juan repeats to Sofia that Oscar saw the nasty Mother and SIL kiss but they didn't want to worry her and the sisters. Oh, those Reyes boys, so thoughtful. Sofia is on a mission to save her mother and continues to think such acts will make Mom love her. I say it's a waste of time. Happily the couple start to plan their wedding with music of Mariachis and a lot of food (or at least I hope he didn't want to eat lots of dogs like Mariachi).

Eva wants to know what has mortified Rosario, she saw her crying in the chapel. She makes her self available to hear Rosario's problems. I'm here if you want to unload. Rosario's silent resolve leads Eva to her next point. So, let's look for a house to live in together. The generous Eva includes her, Rosario, Luisito and even Ofelia in her plans. We could make a real home for Lusito.

Jimena shops and sees shoes that Oscar will want her to have but who can afford these little strappy numbers, Our material girl?

Feo talks to the lawyer and makes a mental to work with Ricardo to save the Hacienda from those pesky Reyes. Save the San Augustin and perhaps the Uribe hacienda, for himself that is.

Oscar says you have a crowd (titipuchal) of shoes already so many pretties and only two feet. Jimena wants an indulgent (consentidor) husband. Oscar worries about the extreme cost of shoes (not card games) but the cultural social differences come out over shoes. She stalks off protesting that she won't buy anything. Juan and Sofia both excuse their respective siblings and who is at fault and so embarrassing. For once they laugh and don't try to control the silly siblings.

Rachel shows Gabi the suit brought by the Reyes. We will save the lands, part of this threat is against your land too. Don't forget the secret, says Raquel. Gabi says if you reveal any secrets, think about your husband and who is dearest to him, Ruth. You need to talk to your husband and take care of your own lands. I will take care of my hacienda.

Sofia counsels Jimena on the need to be happy with her poor husband she chose. Juan counsels Oscar on the need to accept his rich materialistic wife who gave up everything to swab the decks of the bakery. As a result of all this counseling Oscar takes some of the money offered by Juan and goes to the shoe store. He comes out with the material girl's not so secret wish.

Franco seems to think he can rush up to Rosario again and again and she will magically change her mind one of these times. But she has more resolve than he does. Sarita blows off Pedro who asks about the book of poetry by Poblano, but she gets his comeon and says her heart belongs to Franco. Juan watches from behind the fiesta decorations then asks Pedro, what were you doing. He, ever honest, says he was refused again by Sarita. Juan advises him that he can't command someone's heart and rather kindly says Sarita can't love anyone but Franco. Wish we could say the same for Franco.
***************
Nephew Benito (who doesn't have a lot to do these days) tells Raquel, as if she doesn't already know, that Uncle Uribe is going to be angry with all that has been going on on the home front. Raquel assures all of us that she is really worried. The reputation of Ricardo Uribe grows and grows, will the real character be a wild man?

Two and a half Reyes plan the surprise of music and romance for Jimena. Oscar gives the shoe box now all decorated like a Christmas tree to JImena who has had a fit of conscience and says she doesn't need the material shoes. They are only going to get cow pies on them. Actually she apologizes for her tantrum (berrinche). They kiss and later cuddle in the tiny bed. While they are serenaded by Pablito through the paper thin walls of the Reyes house. Do Pablito and Franco now sleep next to the ovens? Where does Pedro sleep?

Sofia simpers that Jimena should understand that their life has changed, even though we are poor now, we are also so much happier. Juan sings to Sofia about being crazy about her, fortunately in a soft whisper.

Pablo is afraid to go to school but Quintina shows him how to throw the necessary punches and points out the lunch and his bookbag. In fact she says she will go to school too.

Sofia wants to talk seriously with Franco. She asks him to be sure of his feelings for Sarita. He assures her there was a period when he was hopelessly confused but now there is nothing between Rosario and him so now he is devoted to Sarita. He neglects to mention the stalking incidents with Rosario.

Rosario comes to the bakery to tell Juan she has forsaken Franco and wants him to stop pursuing her. She realizes she has brought Franco dangerous bad luck. Juan says she can count on the rest of them whenever she needs help. She asks that if anything happens to her, will he promise to care for her child. He pauses but assures him that he will promise.

Quintina is a bit large for the desk at school but wants to answer the teacher's question: who is Napoleon Bonapart? She pipes up that Napoleon, the husband of Josephine, discovered America. The class boos and hoots, the teacher sighs, she dons a burro eared crown and stands in the corner. She surely will help Pablito blend.

Oscar and Jimena talk to the adoption agency assuring them that she has the shoes to be a good mother and they may have 15 siblings for Pablito.

Feo snarls for Armando's benefit, Rosario will never be free of him but neither will she stop him from marrying Gabi to punctuate his feelings he smashes the glass on her picture.

Sofia stops her mother to tell her that Feo only wants her money. He doesn't love you He's only interested in your money, in your money, in your money....(another easy night of capturing dialog)
************************
How can you dare say this. You are such an egoist, Feo loves me. I don't want you to cross my path again. You have a bastard in your pouch and you are not my daughter!! Villagers watch as she gives Sofia a slap. The friends that Gabriela has tried to impress from time to time, witness the whole scene then rush up to offer help to Sofia after Gabi drives away. Isn't it a good thing she isn't running for village council?

The astounded women go to Padre Tadeo to They confess that the wicked widow is going after her SIL. She must be crazy. He tells them not to gossip to anyone. Several scenes later with chickens in the background completing the appropriate sound effects, it looks like the entire village has been filled in on Gabi's little fit.

Sofia runs the BadMom's dissing through her head again but decides not to tell Juan of her problems so he won't worry.

Eladio is making his Mom cry with his threats to go far away. They all argue, Brother Rigo says let him go. What he really needs is a girlfriend to keep him here. Mom wonders where they will find Eladio a girlfriend when in a magic moment, the cutest girl in town shows up asking for vegetables. Rigo and Hortensia grin knowingly.

Gabi, not satisfied with her menacing and slapping activities stops Rosario and Eva. Gabi calls Rosario a prostitute and Eva a husband raper and Eva isn't her mother. Rosario says they don't care. They at least have love and respect for each other. Eva wants her to leave them alone. Rosario rather rightly points out that Gabi has to BUY her men. Touché.
**************

Not everything is bad, chirps Sofia to Juan. At last, Feo is going to give me my liberty. Oh the Fiestas, he chimes, We will be together. Now the fiesta can begin. Sofia wants to see pictures of Juan's parents so she can know more about her husband's family. Juan fumbles for keys then opens the trunk and sees a letter he has never seen before. Oops Juan is showing that he can't read. After all three brothers take a crack at reading we learn that the letter is an apology from the missing Tio Vicente the brother of their father. He warns against the friend his brother has been dealing with and offers to help out when he returns from Guadalajara.

In front of the mirror after we see the twisted cubist painting Gabi is working on, probably a portrait of Feo, the witch twitches out from Feo's gropings to whine, Everyone says you don't love me. People pass signals and whisper about me in the street. You need to leave the house and not come back. Feo looks like he can't believe he is about to lose ground here.
**********************

How can we contact this brother of our father? Where is he now? Sofia asks, where was the letter postmarked? Guadelajara, but many years ago. How are we going to find him?

Gabi is entertaining the two women who had returned from the sessions with PaddyTad and the villagers. You are the witnesses that my daughters have made me suffer. And then she tells them that her husband had tricked her and was planning to run off with a young woman who showed up disgracefully at Bernardo's wake. Therefore, she plans to start a foundation named Bernardo Elizondo to help all those less fourntunate. Now the tongues will stopped and Gabi will be seen as a saint. The logic is a bit hard to follow but seems to cover the little SIL problem, I guess.

The doctor proclaims that Sofia is healthy and so is the baby. Sofia and Juan flash their beautiful smiles.

Pablito displays his guitar playing skills that Franco has helped him with. Finally the bare chested Pedro and the undershirted Franco get to the subject hanging between them. Franco asks Pedro was he interested in Sarita? Pedro, ever the truthful one, says unfortunately, yes.

Feo worries over the foundation and how much it will cost (money that Gabi could give him). How about those divorce papers? He's working on it. She declares she will disinherit her daughters and he will become her only heir. He grins for the first time in weeks.

The ladies tell about the foundation and Padre says he would love to help but wonders if Gabi will let him. Juan and Sofia come in with flowers to give thanks for the health of the baby and to have another blessing for the baby. Padre blesses while Gabi's old girlfriends get another eyeful.

Next time: Gabi sees the lawyer who drops a shoe about Bernardo having changed his will at the last minute leaving everything to Sofia.
Armando for some unseen reason, surrounds Franco and Pablo and prepares to kill them both with pleasure, but wait, it's Coyote to the rescue once again!

Comments:
I was wondering if anyone saw the movie, Frida, on Sunday night. Did you notice that Frida's mother, Matilde Kahlo, was played by our Quintina, the actress Patricia Reyes Spindola. She doesn't have a lot of dialog but I thought looked really pretty. According to IMDB, she also has an acting school with her sister. She has a huge list of roles, and several positions in the film business in Mexico. This is a hardworking woman.

Thanks, Cheryl . Yeah, Bernardo changed the will and left everything to Sofia !!! But what about his other two daughters. I loved the look that the news put on Crabby's face. I really am starting to think that Coyote's boss is the boys Tio Vincente. I love the way Coyote appears out of the blue whenever the Reyes/Robles are in trouble. He has become Mighty Mouse...''Here I come to save the day !!!! That means that Coyote is on the way. '' And maybe Pedro will end up with Sarita after all because they are really painting Franko and Rosario as madly in love with each other. Well, either way, they'll all be one big happy family with loads of pregnancies and babes in the final episode. Speaking of painting, Crabby evidently has entered her Cubist period,,,but,,,she's still bad....on to Impressionism, perhaps.

Thanks for the racap...Due to typing Guapos recap, I missed parts of the intense drama.

Kudos to Sofie for putting the Gamma Ray baby in danger again. Gabi gave one of her now patented smacks. Sofie didn't even blink, no tears, I believe the nerves in the right side of her face are now dead due to constant golphing, therefore Crabi needs to practice using her left hand.

Yes, gossip does spread that fast, so how come it is so quiet that the brothers of Dead Special Sister are now doing the Mambo with the daughters of Dead Ber?

I totally love the trunk of mystery. Oh look what hidden secrets, this is like some kind of magic box, like Harry Potter, you find what you are truely looking for.

I did watch Frida and thought, "could that be Quintina" but then dismissed it as too preposterous. Guess my first instinct was correct ... yes, a talented woman.

Thanks Cheryl....I too missed the show due to typing up the Querida Enemiga recap but enjoyed your witty summation and also the translation for "titpuchal".

I'm convinced the main problem in marriages is not the typical sex/money disputes but rather the fact that men just CANNOT understand why women need so many pairs of shoes.

Most guys are happy with a brown pair, a black pair, some running shoes(only since the early 70's) and if they're really evolved, some sandals.

As women, we know that not only do we need several pairs of black, brown, taupe, white, high heels, low heels, medium heels....but also a red pair to go with that special top, a blue pair (make that a couple) and let's not forget lime green, pink.....well, I could go on...but men just WILL NOT UNDERSTAND.

So many lives shattered, and love grown cold over just this one itty bitty thing....

madbunsbess - I remember Mighty Mouse!!! I watched him faithfully on Saturday mornings . . .

Yep, tonight we could see it was definitely Crabi's artist easel and a canvas they knocked over. I guess it was meant to be there.

Okay ... I don't know about anyone else, but how on earth could J & O tumble in the sheets, all hot & bothered, with Pablito serenading in the other room? That sound --Pablito singing-- was not easy on my ears and I had to hit the mute button. I'm surprised Mariachi wasn't howling.

Where has Mariachi been, lately?

Cheryl: Thanks for the recap. I, too, watched Frida Sunday night. I thought Frida's mother looked like Qunitina - but with a little more weight. Thanks for the info.

This episode had so much love in it, we had the Oscar/Jimena love fest then we saw Juan and Sofia all over each other. The worst thing that happened was Gabi smacking Sofia again. You'd think that Sofia could see it coming by now.

Then we also have a love fest between Eva, Rosi and Ofelia. Eva and Rosario have now found the courage to speak back to the old witch.

Anyway, there was so much loving going on that, ladies and gentlemen, I offer this as as alternate title for last night's chapter,

"LIVIN' IN THE HOUSE OF LU-UV"

But, now the plot thickens. So, it looks like Fer isn't going to part with Sofi now that she holds all the cards and doesn't even know it. You'd think though that with a family that is supposedly well off and educated that somebody, just somebody, would have looked for a last will and testament.

Wow the shoe thing...
I call serious BS on this one. New shoes are fine, but $290.00 shoes, let's see Princess has been married for like a week now? Maybe Princess should have gone out and hustled some pan. As a product of a childhood, where if I pulled the Jimena act with my parents I usually got what I wanted..which came to a crashing halt when my mother died and my father married the combination of Jimena/Crabi only the German model..I learned to do it for myself, if I wanted it I had to find a way to do it. Yep my college tuition money went for a lovely diamond ring for my stepmother. Well no sympathy here for Jimena. $290 goes a bit farther in Mexico for food and so on. She could have gotten some zippy sandels in the market for like $30, granted they would have been made in China, but hey who cares. Also Franco sings, Juan bakes..just what does Oscar do? I mean he helped get the other bar set-up & spent most time undressing Niurka with his eyes. So besides being the greedy one, what does Oscar do.

I too was creeped by the kid singing outside the bedroom, comeon the kid is like ten, old enought to know the score. Nothing says "EEkkkkk" like a Catholic Choir boy singing outside the love room? Maybe he thought they were just trying on shoes, maybe he will start singing outside shoe stores.

Coyote -- I've been trying to figure out where I've seen him. He was the assistant who worked at the distillery in Barreras de Amor. He's killed by the bad guys midway through. He was a quiet, rational presence. Very different role and different look with the bald head. Probably been in other novelas as well, but have seen him, I think, only in BDA.

Thank you for the recap Cheryl. Someone should tell Snofia that she shouldn't wear pink. Ugggh. Not flattering at all.

I wondered how long it would take our little Princess (Jimena) to start whining about not having any money. I can understanding her needing a new pair of shoes because nothing cheers you up more than a new pair of shoes unless it is another purse (or purse and shoes)!

Again my question is why do people let Crabi slap them? We know Snofia can deliver a pretty healthy slap when she wants to so why not give mommie dearest a taste of her own medicine. Oh wait...it might endanger the Hijo! :-D

Doña Bárbara watchers, we now have a discussion forum here on Caray (it says recaps but I am not recapping it. I've asked Melinama to change that.) So if you are watching DB, stop by and post a coment.

you'd think that Slofia would know by now how to block those haymaker rights from mommie dearest, after the hundreds she's endured. She must be a masochist at heart, keeps going back for more emotional and physical abuse from the old bag. I'd have decided, at the first disowning by Crabi, that I was not going to be part of that anylonger- "have a nice life, bitch"...Coyote to the rescue! again, that guy sure gets around, perfect timing, perfect armament. What's gonna happen when he slightly messes up on his timing, ain't gonna be pretty...

oops, my manners- thank you Cheryl, for the fine recap...

I think Coyote pops up out of the ground just like his SUV's! I think he's watching the Reyes closely on orders of the Boss.

The cutest girl in town (she is) is the maid that was sleeping by Luisito .She has been at the hacienda for a few weeks. I appreciate the vocab, especially the Nahuatl.mhm

Cheryl, thanks for the great recap!

At some point we have to see where everyone sleeps now because trying to figure it out is just disturbing. Do O and J get to go to bed first, do what they want and the rest show up when they are asleep? Ewwww

I just thought Pablito was singing somewhere in the house, not that he was anywhere near them, more that is was just two things happening at the same time.

If Franco is now devoted to Sarita, they need to start moving that story along. Although the poor guy just got out of a coma and now he is going to get shot? Thank heavens for Coyote! I hope that Jefe is the uncle and has been looking for them and finally got lucky is dealings with Feo to stumble on them and is just waiting for the right moment to reveal himself.

Okay, time for swim too! Can never have to many good swims!

Once again, I think they did Pablito's singing first, then added the music, so that while his voice was not bad, he was singing in the wrong key. Of course if you have five shows a week, you don't have that much time for post production.

And Bernardo's will! One would think they'd have read it right after he died, not six months later. Although I sort of remember something similar in Destilando Amor, where they read the father's secret instructions (give it all to Gaviota) about 4 YEARS after he died!

Hi CherylNM thanks for the fine recap.
I've been wondering where everyone sleeps too -- came to the conclusion that they sleep in shifts!

Juan often seems to be sleeping either on the floor or in bed when Sofia is not in bed.

The cutest girl in town is the daughter maid of the rounder maid at the Hacienda San Agustin. Note the silly hairdo with ribbons on each side. By the way, speaking of silly outfits, note the mom-maid's outfit complete with silly hair ribbons -- and then note the daughter's outfit -- very short dress with apron and silly hairdo w/ ribbons. Yup that was her--newly designated girlfriend of Eladio in the market!

PanQue

doris -- mariachi was probably out working -- somebody besides Juan has to work in this group! I would guess he & Capricho have some night gigs somewhere.

connie -- de acuerdo, I also think Coyote pops out of ground like his SUVs do. Maybe there are underground tunnels with spy manholes in them that allow him to pop up anywhere in Cd Serdan or the surrounding area. Certainly there are a lot of them over by the SUV pop-up crossroads frequented by Feo.

PanQue

I don't know if anybody else noticed this but I thought it was just a little creepy...why was Franco hiding in the woods waiting for Rosario to come by. Can you say Stalker? It was like--- surprise! How did he know she was going to walk by?

Also, people don't really "read wills." That is just for TV. The lawyer actually files the Will with the court and then the beneficiaries are notified...blah, blah, blah. If everything was left to Snofia, Crabi and Feo would not have access to any of the accounts that were in Bernardo's name.

I think Sofia can forget all about her divorce/wedding now that Feo knows that she will inherit everything! Yup, Cheryl, good recap but maybe you should change your title to "more funerals and no weddings!" since Feo seems angrier and angrier and more prone to violence. It also looks like Rosario might be on Feo's short list since she told Juan to care for Luisito if anything happened to her. Yikes!

Fuego en AZ

I think we talked about sleeping arrangements before but everyone was kind of stumped...We know that Snofia and Juan sleep in Libia's room. We have never known really where Quintina sleeps. The "boys" all slept in the same room but Oscar and Princess are sleeping in there now. So that leaves Franco, Pedro, and Pablito (and mariachi) high and dry. Maybe there is an addition that we don't know about.

I don't keep up with fashion all that much so I haven't been wearing the plastic straps for hanging up the dresses outside on my shoulders. Maybe Raquel is part of a new fashion trend I don't know about. If not, add a another FELS staffer to the list...FIRE the show costumer. Slofia's pink dress, alone, is just cause, don't ya think.

G in CA

Cheryl, love your recaps. Thanks

I've been fascinated by Coyote from the start, so I'm really thrilled that he seems to be on the Reyes' side. Any guy who can scare Feo is ok in my book.

I loved when Quintina identified Napoleon as Josephine's husband. Yes, that should be his claim to fame!

I used to watch COPS faithfully for the first few years of its existence. One of the staples on that show was domestic disturbances - sometimes the victim would seem happy (at least for the moment) to see the cops cart the tormentor away, but often they'd beg them not to and make excuses for his behavior.

That's what I think of every time I see Sofi with her mother, and it depresses me. I know that one night on ice wouldn't change Gabi at all, but I'd still like to see her spend some time getting to know the legal system better.

I hope I'm not supposed to be wearing those plastic straps. I've been cutting them off. :)

Oh no, I cut them off too. Now I'll have to go home and sew them back on. :-}

Julie, maybe we should send Dog the Bounty Hunter after her. If anyone could get Crabi to repent her evil ways it would be him.

I'm suffering from no TV for the next couple of days. My inside the house satellite box died. Last night a friend invited me over for pasta, wine, and Doña Bárbara, so I'm al tanto on that one. I'd love to see the scene where Crabi finds out Sofía is the heiress. Does anyone know what number episode we're in to look for them on U-Tube. I don't want to make the mistake of going ahead of where we currently are in the US.

When Coyote & the trucks pull up, that does happen, It is Mexico, there isn't alot to do and people will sit in a truck on a vantage point and pull out in front and back of you. There are not that many roads, to like change your route. Also you can see the dust trail for miles. Another one is they do it at night with no headlights on. It scares the crap out of you. Thankfully, it was people we knew during the Dancing Horse Fiesta times.

When Pedro was singing on the dancing horse, we were laughing, The men in Guererro are far to macho to sing while dancing with their horse. And never but never in semi-marachi outfit. Marachi is not popular in Guererro, it is Norteno & Banda

It wasn't really very macho but the horse was still cool. ;]

Ugh, Dog the bounty hunter?? First time I ever saw him, I had never heard of him or his show, I thought he was an ugly woman with a gland problem.

Novelera - those youtube videos can be a real lifesaver sometimes, can't they!

We (most if not all of us) are including the episode number in the recap title so you can find the ones you want. Last night's was #85.

That's funny Julie. He is pretty strange. I'll stick with Coyote. I think we can all agree that he is going to play an important part in the future.

PanQue, shifts! Yes that must be it! Connie I always think of Quitina as Alice with the Bradys and she has some nice little spot curled up behind the stove.

I was thinking maybe Tia's straps were the clear bra straps you can buy when you are wearing something off the shoulder but you aren't Rosario and can defy gravity!

Maybe they should take some of that money and add on to the house.

Jimena really messed up the whole boys haning out talking in their underwear time. Darn it!

Molly, the last time the guys were in the shower and Oscar was taking a shower and Juan was in his towel, Quintina just went in and out like it was nothing. I'm not even sure the bathroom has a door!

I wonder if they have lots of rooms there, but the boys all used to sleep in the same room because they thrive on so much togetherness!

Yes, extra rooms. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Either that or someone is sleeping on the roof!

Maybe they sleep in the little courtyard where they always have sheets hanging up. I'm not even sure what that area is.

Thanks, Julie, for the episode number; duh, now that I look, it's in the title. I'm a bit scared how bad I'm jonesing with likely no TV, thus no telenovelas, the rest of this week!

Well, if there is no door, then I want Quintina's job!

That space that is maybe kind of between the bakery and the house, although there is also now the magic hallway, always looks like shots of New York in between apartment buildings with laundry hanging out.

Maybe there are more rooms at the bottom of the magic trunk!

Oh and speaking of that. I get that Juan is not really supposed to know how to read so good. But when Sophie left the dear Juan letter his thought bubble of her voice didn't seem to stumble at all.

Thanks, Cheryl for another great recap. Just like the musicians in the church, I figure the elves took care of additional sleeping space, too.....

Molly: I was rather disappointed in that letter reading scene with a suddenly illiterate Juan. I was even more disappointed with the goofy way Sofia seemed to think it was so endearing! Chalk another one up for the nepotistic nephew syndrome. The director should be given the boot along with the colorblind costumer for the lack of character continuity and color coordination. Both of them are probably related to some of the financial backers for this 5th rate technical monstrosity.

Thanks for all the support amigos y amigas. I agree with something Melinama said some time ago: that we do this to enjoy the comments as much as any other reason. It is also wonderful to find out more about our remarkable readership. And I personally love the leads to videos, books, movies, other websites that so many of you contribute.

Cakes and Molly, I am truly disturbed by the cuteness and veritable wink at illiteracy. My experience with tutoring students in ESL at a local high school in Abq. is that the Mexican students are voracious learners with so many hopes. I hope this is not setting a bad example in Mexico for people to think that illiteracy is sexy or something.

Beckster, thanks for your reality check on the shoe scene. That was way over the top as was the choir boy outside the boudoir moment. This show can still be so silly, it makes me want to cuff a few writers or producers too.

Thanks Molly. I had no idea there were clear bra straps since most young women walk around with multiple colored straps now a days. I don't think I'll be needing the clear straps for myself anytime soon unlike Raquel. I don't need purple hair either.

G in CA

I'm glad someone brought up that illiteracy scene again. I was wondering if it had been brought up before, since I don't watch every day. I was very shocked to see it. Maybe it's another one of those PSA concepts, because they also had the school scene with Quintina wearing the "dunce cap" (donkey ears--who knew?). Maybe it was never important to the story, but they decided to throw it in. Juan supposedly had to support his little brothers, so he quit school?

Yeah, he didn't finish school, and Oscar skipped a lot, so that's how we end up with Franco as the "intellectual" one, LOL. Even though Oscar is by far the smartest of the bunch. He was even able to figure out which girl he liked.

I don't know if the point was to portray illiteracy as charming - I think it was just to show that Sofia accepts him just the way it is. But I hope she sends him to night school or something just the same.

So why did they only find the letter last night? Months, if not years ago, they should have unpacked that trunk and searched for clues.

Oh, so they make clear bra straps. (I did not know!) Seems to me that if people can see the straps, it doesn't really solve the problem; but at least it's less obvious.

The illiteracy scene was annoying, and it was like, Juan learned a little, Oscar a little more, but Franco, the poet, got to go to school while the boys worked so he knows how to read. And its not like the boys were helpful with Juan and his difficulty. Grrrr... It just wasn't needed.

G in CA, I love the hair color actually! I don't like clear bra straps however, they are plastic and really uncomforable! You can also get them beaded and such. What will they think of next?

yeah, that illiteracy scene was a bit awkward. Sofia was smiling because, yes, she does accept Juan as he is. (unlike Jimena/Oscar!)I'll bet we see some scenes of Sofia tutoring Juan soon...Sofia is as safe as ever, being the sole heir to Bernie's fortune- it should be completely out of the reach of Crabi and Feo, but she'd be well advised to get her own will written up. (I should take my own advice!)..When, oh when will Juan's day of reckoning arrive on the issue of his dishonesty/ommissions? That's going to be a big one, and I can't believe that it hasn't come yet...

Cheryl thanks for the recap, 'cause I fell asleep in the middle of FELS again last night! Right after Sofi said "Feo doesn't love you..." (snzyxkz....snore, snore).
Anyway: 1) Could Coyote be the half brother of Pedro? Remember, Pedro's father went north and never returned...
2) No mention was ever made of the scope of Bernardo's estate, property, holdings, etc. So who knows how big that inheritance is? Could be huge, could be peanuts. How would Feo know?
"Creemelo", 'cause it's more confusing when you sleep thru it.

Cheryl: I got the same impression as you and wondered if they were pro learning or making it "socially acceptable" to stay illiterate. I assumed like Julie that it was a way to show Sofia loved him as he was, defects and all, but still it was all wrong for the character as he'd been portrayed earlier and the whole scene just grated on me so I just had to vent. Sorry.
=/ 8 ? }

While we're on the subject of clear straps, I am sooo out of it, I'd thought they were only used to hang the garment and just cut them off. I've never even seen beaded ones.....

As for maroon hair, when I see Raqui wearing that color I only can think back to my daughter dying her hair that color in high school --or was it college? It was part of that rebellious stage when black clothes and girls wearing black army boots (Doc Martins) were used to make a "statement".....

Well Cakes, you are lucky your daughter went through her weird hair color early. I went through it just a few years back. Probably the influence of living in LA for several years but I was in my late 50's. But it was just as much fun to do it then!
