Las Tontas No Van 1-28 Wed. - A boo boo, a baby, bawling, and boffing

We open with Luci bribing Santi with his favorite Chai drink (Jaime's too) so that she can go stay overnight with her friends. The theme here is that Santi notices she's different for some reason. She denies it of course and gets what she wants.

Candy tells Meno she's going to live in the DF she decided.

Santi tries to convince Roci to take a bath but she wants him to do it instead of Abue so he flashes back to caring for her again as a little girl and her flinging many colored balls very skillfully for a one year old at his face. That's why he doesn't bathe her anymore She was happy with just hearing the story so goes for her bath.

Luci and Charles are at a club partying and professing their love. Charles is drinking a lot and Luc is not thrilled.

Donato and Sant are playing chess and Santi complains about Jaime. Doni tries to convince Santi to let it go.

Meno discusses with Candi her feeling that she might have feelings for Pato. Meno tells her to go away is one thing but to flee is completely another.

OK, Chuck is good and drunk right about now.

Issy and Jaime argue about her not coming out of the bathroom and if that’s all she wanted he could have saved money and just rented the bathroom.

Luc and Charly argue and he passes out on the club floor.

Santi is at Candi's trying to talk her out of leaving for the DF and convincing her they will tackle the matter of her son together. She says she's not going because of that but really going because she fears what she feels around Pato. Oh boy, I'm sick of her pity party….Santi too and tells her it’s a bad idea for her to run away.

Meno runs downstairs screaming he needs help to go and get Charly cause Lu called. Snati said impossible she is with her friend. Meno says he’ll introduce him to the teenage world of lies later but they have to go to the hospital now.

Now Jaime is worried about Issy, and he feels like a rapist. She is nervous about this whole thing like a teen, but he promises her nothing will happen if she doesn’t want. They hug.

Marissa shows up at the house and Donato tells her that doc isn’t there and doesn’t know when he’ll be back but she says she’ll watch a novella or something. He’s seems surprised she watches them and inquires further which one she likes. She says yes that one with Yanez and the scene at the lake where he shows his butt!! Shout out to Fuego fans…

Candy is putting Chava to bed and asks him if he wants to move to the DF. He says no way.

At Sole’s house Pat is saying goodnight to Beto, like any smart kid he asks if he’s not going to stay in the house with them sometime. Sole intervene’s and says he’s got his house and wife. Beto asks but doesn’t he like his Ma. Sole ushers him off to bed. I say good damn questions Beto. You are a sharp boy.

We go the hospital where Santi is yelling at Lucia for her lie and calculating her punishment. Meno ushers out Charly who is better but still looks like crap. He will talk to him and leave Santi to talk to Lu.

Poor Chava has a dream that Roci is going to stay here with Merengue but he has to go live far away. He wakes up of course having wet the bed. Ma makes it all better.

Sole apologizes to Pat for all the questions; that Beto just wants to spend more time with him. Pato wonders if Beto’s the only one. They start to kiss. Ali’s turn for a nightmare. She wakes up calls his cell which is apparently shut off as we flash to more heavy making out between Pat and Sole.

Santi and Luci arrive home where he gives her the "we’ll talk more tomorrow." Mari comes up to him and wonders what happened. She really doesn’t care though because even though he tells her he’s not in the mood for games, she walks little baby booties up his arm. He knows this trick because he pulled it on Pau many years ago. He is rightfully impactado as he learns they will become parents.

Pato returns home to a waiting up Ali. He realizes it's super late. She wants to know where he was and with who. He says ok, fine she deserves to know if she wants but if she learns probably their relationship should end, so does she really want to know? If so he'll tell her. She runs to the sofa and cries without begging him any more.

Meno gives Charly hangover curing food and tells him it's stupid to over indulge. He makes him take his pain killers and Charly instantly feels better. Teen drunks, I tell ya. Takes me days to feel better now.... :)

Santi yells at Lu for lying. She apologizes so he'll reduce her punishment, but only by a day. He tells her he's sorry to have to do this, but he does it because he cares.

Issy calls Santi and let's him know she's doing well. Guess maybe they did it because they are hugging and laughing like kids.

Santi gets a patient who wants to cure her depression. He says surgery won't cure it, but one floor up maybe they can. He tells this to Candi. She thinks he's professional and is pleased he is taking their institute seriously. He introduces patient to Candi.

Jaime and Issy are having a blast in Puerta Vallarta at what looks like the same piano he was playing in Guadalajara, but what do I know. The real pianist comes over and begins playing Somos Novios.

Sole and Candi are talking about Candi really liking Santi after all and that she should just accept it and tell him how she feels.

Santi and Lalo are post- oping again and Lalo teases him about whether or not he'd marry Candi if she came walking in right now accepting marriage. He says that he will never be happy with her and that she is a fantasy.

At the institute Barbara saw Mari with an EPT in the bathroom and tells Ceci and Sole she's pregnant. Sole is impactada, and Ceci thinks good for Doc Plas being Pa as he only makes Candi suffer and she deserves better. Barb jokes "better like you?" Sole is adrift in thought and doesn't even hear this jab.

In Santi's office Candi was thanking him for the client, oh and one more thing. Very seriously she says she thinks, no, knows she's in love. Santi asks with who and as the bell tolls the Raven quoth nevermore, because Mari comes in and asks if she is excited about the news, that she is pregnant. Very pregnant actually, and that they have been trying for this for a long time. Candi very seriously congratulates them and then leaves calling herself a fool. Santi tells Mari she shouldn't have emphasized they were trying. She doesn't understand why not if they have never protected themselves. Anyway he says, yeah, he's happy. His eyes speak another truth.

Candi bawls behind her door. Duh, you waited too long.

The waiters sing with Lulu, Pero Te Vas A Repentir (You're going to regret - ha) and Lulu shows Chayo how she's set up dinner for her and Meno.

Santi and Pat are having some coffee or something and he gets congratulated but essentially confesses to Pato he's happy but Pat thinks maybe he's in love with someone else. Santi wonders what is love and he's doing the good Jaliscan thing, what's right.

Back at the restaurant Charly shows up to check on everything after we've just seen the guys counting the money and discovering they are short. Lulu finds out that Meno isn't coming and she bawls. Zamora says to break out the weapons because they are going to eat all the plates that Lulu prepared for Meno.

Candi and Sole discuss the whole "Santi is going to be Dad" so she is not getting involved and that's it. Sole still thinks she should tell him what she feels. He calls and wants to see her and she agrees.

On the way there Santi's very expensive Mercedes with the emblem blocked out breaks down- yeah not likely. For some reason he can't call Candi and she arrives at the park and waits. Instead he calls his mechanic, but I guess Candi doesn't have a phone suddenly and we go through a calamity of him eventually standing her up. A kid steals a bike in the same park, the girls flag the police and of course by the time they catch up to the "bike stealer" the kid has sold it to Santi for a fortune and he is the sucker that gets to go to jail. He tells them he's a plastic surgeon but they aren't interested. And here's where we are left for tomorrow.

Great recap, I missed the dialog between Pat and Alicia. I could tell by the expression on her face that she was upset. Jeez, Pat can be brutal. I appreciate your attention to detail.

Good morning Kris. Wonderfully flowing recap. I appreciate how it zipped right along. I would say yep, Isabel and Jaime definitely did it. No more shy girl routine from her.

I laughed hard when Mari said she like to watch Yanez showing his butt in the lake. Good one writers.

I'm confused about Lulu, Meño told her twice he's gay and she's still putting the pressure on?

Oh Charly, what a sloppy drunk you are. Meño should have let him be hung over longer.

Thanks Kris, terrific recap and I always love your clever comments.

Kris, I enjoyed your recap as always.Yesterday we discussed several disturbing matters that seem to augur anvils gathering on our horizon. Almost certainly little Chava has leukemia although not yet diagnosed. Last nighthe had troubling dreams but really not much new on that front. I think it's fairly apparent that Charly and Lucia enjoyed a little unprotected roll in the hay, hence the euphoric glow noticed by Santiago. Anyone care to bet against a budding pregnancy even as we speak? Marissa's confirmed pregnancy throws a wrench into the finally developing relationship between or 2 stars. Lulu can't accept Meño's gayity and wants to cure him(good luck with that). For some reason Barbara has become a harpy dogging the conflicted Cici over her hidden feelings for Candy. Ed's marriage is crumbling, although he could actually repair the damage he's done if he'd renounce his philandering ways(good luck with that too). On a positive note it looks like Santiago's mom got her groove back, now if Jaime can only keep up with the desires he's kindled. All in all I'd say we're in for some very happy times. Carlos

Very good foresight on the leukemia story, Carlos. Are you a physician? Did Chava have a fever too? I don't speak Spanish, but I thought I saw Candi feeling his forehead. Another indication of something brewing.

Kris, I always enjoy your recaps.

Violet

Very good recap, thanks Kris. I guess we all shouldn't have been so impatient for the story to move to phase 2, because now that it is, everything's going wrong for our characters. Santiago, especially, is in quite a bind at this point. Just when he's declared his love for Candy, and she was going to do the same, the pregnancy comes up. And he has problems with Lucia. And now he missed his meeting with Candy (I agree, why didn't he use his cell?). And at the end of the episode, when the police asked him to identify himself, he didn't have his wallet (or his phone), because the kid with the red hair picked his pocket right after selling Santi the bike! Caray!

Did you notice? Now that Lucía is no longer a maiden, not only does PapaTío notice something 'distincta' about her, but also there is a distinct break in their relationship. She is suddenly less connected to him. In the morning, leaving for school, he tries to reconnect. Normally after an argument they'd hug and make up. But this time she refuses to let it drop.

Violet, yes I'm a family physician but actually it's on my experience as a TN aficionado that I base the call of leukemia for our little Chava. I really hate that they're doing that to this cute innocent kid. Carlos

Well, I'm studying to be a nurse. I may need your help, Carlos!!

Carlos, I'm still holding out that it is a red herring. This is a short novela so he would have to have one of those miracle cures pretty fast because Rosy isn't going to kill off a kid and this group doesn't seem to be overdoing the praying, talking to God routine that happens in so many novelas.

Barb has always been a snoopy harpy. My guess is that she is in the closet herself. In any event she is a very unappealing character.

Interesting observation about Lucia's reactions to her tio. A lot of that may be shame because she know he would be disappointed in her. Couldn't help loving Meno telling Santi he would introduce him into the world of teenage lies.

I think there is also some foreshadowing with Charly and the drinking.

Pat really is a louse, sleeping with Soledad, chasing after Chivi Chivi, throwing it all in Alicia's face but he never turns down an chance to jump her either,

I think Soledad is turning into a schemer. She is pushing Candy to tell Santi how she feels, not because she cares so much about Candy but as a way to get her out of Pat's way. She knows full well that if Pat discovers Candy is alive he won't be making any booty calls to her. What better way then to get Candy hooked up with Santi.

I can't help hoping that Marissa's pregnancy turns out to be a false one. Otherwise there is no hope for Santi and candy as he will marry her and be miserable all over again. I do hate the possibility of yet ANTHER novela miscarriage.

Deciegirl-excuse my ignorance, but who is Chivi Chivi? You also mention the writer Rosy. Since I'm new to the world of TV's what else has she done? I'd like to check it out on DVD if available.

Gracias!

Violet Chivi Chivi is the clown i.e. Candy. For Rosy's latest check out La Fea Mas Bella - the novela referred to here often as LFMB. That will get you started on the light hearted things Rosy Ocampo tends to do. Enjoy and once you check out LFMB you'll see why we have a picture of the Tan Divino Jamie Camil on the home page.

Thanks. I didn't know the clown's name. I will try to get a hold of the show you mentioned. I have seen the initials mentioned here, but didn't know what they stood for. I take it Jaime was in this show? I do like him. Yes!

(so sorry about your husband and not being able to hear his voice...)

Oh my lord Violet dear...if you haven't seen La Fea Mas Bella, aka LFMB, you simply must watch some o it. If you like this show, LFMB was even better - at least until they capitalized on their popularity and extended the run.

The show, a remake of a Columbian original - (whose rebroadcast is scheduled to begin in Feb), actually held the most watched ratings position in prime time for at least a week in the US, yes, above all the English programs even.

I'm pretty sure you can find the episodes on You tube still. Start one by one. The first month or so is awkward as they are just learning to take advantage of the cast's talents and teh image they are gong for but then the middle episodes are outstanding, and the end, well things get feigned, but at that point you are hooked to the characters....

Anyway, plenty folks joined the novela world with that one. We also have all the recaps still linked here on Caray so you can read them too.

And Rosy Ocampo is actually the executive producer of these shows, not really the writer so more than anything she lends her "style" to the productions. She was initially famous for doing "family oriented" and children's novelas until LFMB launched her into mega status. Her shows obviously therefore all have many similarities.

PS, if you are familiar with Ugly Betty here in the states, this is yet another remake of that same Columbian original, Betty la Fea. Somewhere on Caray someone did a breakdown of all the various incarnations of the show and the "Betty" character from many different countries. Maybe you can look for that.

Oh and yes, you are right, Candi did mentione something about his fever seeming to have gone down. Yep, probably another instance of foreshadowing...

I remember when I learned that concept in middle school. I did not grasp it then, but I sure do now!!!

Last count I heard, eight versions of Fea. If I remember correctly, Greece, Italy, Poland, Spain, Mex, etc. The US Ugly Betty probably has the least in common with the original. They took a similar character but went a very different direction with the story.

You can get the condensed version of LFMB on NetFlix. As Kris aluded to, many people fell in love with novelas because of LFMB. The condensed rips out the soul of the show, but it should still give you a general idea. The original Colombian starts 2/9 on Telefutura (10PM?).

Wow...fun coming into this late and reading all the comments.

Kris, sure appreciate your straight-to-the-point, flowing recap. I have a snow and ice shoveling "hangover". Taught class fine this morning and ran errands but two Advil with lunch sent me to la-la land. Who needs street drugs!?

Anyway, even in my Charly-state I could understand what went on. Sounds like quite a bit. We won the game last night so I'd be super-happy if it weren't for Santiago and Candy's hurt and misunderstanding (plus that inconvenient pregnancy).

Thanks amiga..and thanks all of you for your entertaining comments. Love this line!

Noooo I don't want Chava to get leukemia! I hope your wrong. I mean no disrespect, doctor, but, I don't like it when children get sick even if it's for TV.
Liena, FL

Well, I had better try to catch some of this show on You Tube and will also try to read some of the recaps here. I've never watched Ugly Betty or really any TV show anymore. I'm too busy with TNs and going back to university at night!

Thanks for your input everyone.

Just found LFMB on Amazon for about $9. It has English subtitles also, which would be so helpful in my quest to understand Spanish. My Spanish class ended in December and I want to continue learning on my own for now until I can take another class. The reviews are not that great due to the editing down of this show to 20 hours from 300 hours on DVD, but I think I will buy it. Now I have to find the TN that stars the hunk you all speak of, was it Colunga, or something like that? Can't remember what show he was in though. Did I see an ad for a new show, something about Manana, that will be coming on Univsion soon? It sure looked like the star was the same guy whose picture is on this site, the one below Jaime, the one I think is Colunga. So sorry, but I can't remember his name.

Oh, Violet, I'm supposed to be getting bills out right now, for my day job, and here you are asking about two of my favorite subjects, LFMB and Fernando Colunga. Shame on you!

Some of us refer to Colunga as TBLMOE (The Best Looking Man on Earth). What a treat for the eyes! His new novela, Mañana es para siempre (MEPS), starts soon. His classics were his three historic novelas, Amor Real, Alborada, and Pasion. Very good, well constructed novelas. The first two are available on condensed DVD.

The condensed LFMB is frustrating for those who saw the whole thing. But it is absolutely still worth watching. Enjoy! And if you find you love it, you can get the unauthorized complete version. I warn you though. I got my complete, and my family didn't see me for the next five months!

Great comments all. Violet DO pick up the DVDs starring Fernando Colunga. Not only is he super hot but the shows are some of the best. I'm looking forward to Mañana but I have to admit I love the costume dramas the best.

Thanks for the recap Kris. I too don't want Chava to get sick; can't they give an illness to sleazy Pat. Heaven knows with his track record, the writers could easily give him something.

PaulaH, you are too funny. Don't feel bad, I'm supposed to be working now and here I am on this site. Shame on me is right! I will definitely pick up the DVDs of LFMB and will anxiously await the new series starring your heartthrob. See, I don't know who he is really, but I did pick him out in the coming attraction ads. He looked darn good to me! Can't wait to see him. I will also look for the other DVDs that he was in. Thanks everyone.

Violet You won't have any problem tracking down a Colunga novela He has made many both costume epics and modern ones. I don't care for him but I would recommend Alborada because most of the cast is excellent and it is beautiful. I don't think he faress well in modern day shows but for fun you might want to check out his first which was Maria Mercedes (also the first I ever saw from start to finish) His part is small and he was much younger.

Funny, Alborada was the one I was just thinking of getting, mainly because it has English subtitles, which I really want as I know it will help me so much with understanding Spanish. Having the meaning in English right in front of me will be much easier than always trying to reach for the Spanish dictationary (the one I have STINKS), not to mention always trying to find my glasses so I can read the very, small print!

Oh! Also, TBLMOE will be on Univision, this Sunday in his movie, Ladron que roba a ladron. Fun heist flick. Sal Lisazo (I know I have this wrong) still looks hot at his age, similar to Sean Connery. Dialog is pretty easy to understand. And did I mention, it includes TBLMOE?

Many men think they are God's gift to women. Fernando Colunga really is!

Violet...Eve of Cleveland and I were just discussing off-line which Colunga telenovela is better...Amor Real or Alborada. She loved them both (and adores him) but she found Amor Real more moving. However, there are no closed captions or subtitles so I would wait until you're a little more grounded in Spanish before trying AR. Have fun though...he's fascinating to watch.

I have the DVD's of Amor Real, Alborada and Pasion, and they all have English subtitles. Maybe an earlier version didn't, but these all do. They're all the condensed versions (Amor Real is only about 7 1/2 hours, Alborada is 12 and Pasion is 13 hours). I bought them all from amazon.com. I liked Amor Real, thought Alborada was amazing (and I never saw the originals). I saw the original Pasion, and haven't watched the DVD of that yet, but the show was fantastic in acting, costumes, story, etc.

Hombre is spot on. The editing on AR wasn't that great, however I never saw the original and I still really enjoyed the DVD (with some help from commenter Susanlynn who explained some of the missing bits to me). Alborada is edited much more smoothly and also has some good DVD extras. I purchased both at Target. Last time I was there they were all out of Pasion so I'll have to wait I guess.

Violet~~~I am also a fan of Fernando Colunga. In fact, he is my main telenovio. Both Amor Real and Alborado have English subtitles. I think that Alborado is my alltime fav novela , but Amor Real runs a close second. Also, Youtube used to have many clips of both of those novelas, so check it out. We can fill in anything that you don't understand.

I'll have to check Target also. I've never looked there. I'll have to go back to Amazon to double check, but I was sure one of them just said LANGUAGE: Spanish, with no mention of subtitles. Now I really have to check this guy out with all the comments about him especially from his #1 fan, Paula!

Careful, Violet. You'll confuse mis compañeras here on the board because they know I'm a huge Camil fan too. I'd rather look at Colunga; I'd rather watch Camil.

Colunga is so good looking, I still catch my breath when I look at him sometimes. Whereas with Camil, watching him acting is simply magical. His exuberance, his body control, his expressiveness, the way he moves - me encanta. I always say, I could watch Camil paint a fence. With the sound turned off. And a bag over his head. But if I were to put a poster on the wall like I did when I was 12, it would be Colunga, TBLMOE, hands down. (And who would I like to spend a long romantic dinner with? Who do I want to keep my feet warm at night? My husband. Nobody else comes close.)

very sweet, Paula.

Oh, and don't forget Colunga is a pirate...bonus!
