Fuego 2/3: No, he ain't got on his travelin' shoes...

Last of my recaps for Cheryl, who'll be back from Mexico any day now...

"Die, Soledad! But first, tell me who your son is! I tried to burn you alive once before, I'll get you this time, here, sniff this gas!" That's Gabriela yelling as she flings gasoline all around Soledad's place and throws a match in it. Obediently, Soledad sniffs, gasps, chokes, and stands stock-still instead of leaving the house.

Gab brains her with a crucifix, yes, this has got to be about the top of the list of punishable offenses. Only thing worse, braining your own mother with a crucifix. Or a baby.

Gab just about runs her truck into Coyote's truck, yes, I see why we were discussing his neckwear yesterday. My mother had one of those fox fur neckpieces...

"Be more careful, Gab." "I was, uh, distracted." "Well, can't stand here and chat, I have to go see Juan." "Juan? He and those brothers are my worst enemies!" "Well, then, so am I. You never noticed I was faking my affection for you? I'm your worst enemy." Big reveal: his parentage. She counters: "Well, don't worry about your mother's happiness, I just took care of it. She won't be suffering any longer."

Juan busts into Soledad's house, scoops her up a la the Incredible Hulk, takes her outside, goes back in and extinguishes the fire in about 25 seconds. Soledad anxiously orders him to find Coyote.

He finds Coyote. As Darth rolls his bug-eyes emotionlessly behind a tree - imagining that Coyote is ratting him out for killing Juan's parents - Coyote is actually trying to tell Juan who assassinated Libia. However, he pauses so frequently, so portentously, and with so many ellipses that Darth shoots him before any helpful information gets out. If they put their minds to it, these people could tell each other all they need to know in about four seconds. --Ed.]

It's a bad day for Soledad: first almost burned to death again, then her son gets shot. As she cradles him in her arms shouting "Hijo! Hijo!" at him, he asks for her blessing and dies. She sobs and gives a lot of speeches. She sends all the silent awkward looking extras away.

Father Bouffy (now you've really got me staring at his forehead trying to find the wig line) is asphyxiating in bed (if you read the closed captions, they tell you so). Bouffy is muttering about breaking the sacrament of the confessional because he has to stop the evil of Gabriela and Fernando. He calls for Commandant Muttonchops! Mutton comes stumbling in and asks "Who shot you?" [No harm in trying to make his work easier. --Ed.]

"I don't know, I have a suspicion, but that's not why I called you here. I denounce ... (asfixia) I denounce ... " Too late! Too many ellipses!

Muttonchops watches him dying without bothering to call for the doctor. Luckily, though, the doctor happens by just then and, luckily, he has with him today's most cutting edge technology: a stethoscope, which he applies firmly to Pad's writhing torso.

The Reyes brothers and their girls are reviewing in the next room. A shout brings them scurrying to Pad's bed. They count off, all present! "Love each other! Guard your love!" "Oh we will we will!" "Don't squabble!" And he seems to be gone! We cut to church, it's a funeral, some preacher is telling our grieving assembled cast: "Don't let your light become darkness!" Then we snap back to the hospital bed where Juan's big argument in favor of Tad not dying is: "You promised you'd perform our marriage!"

Why doesn't the doctor give Bouffy some oxygen? "I go in peace!" And there's a bright light, and Tad is dressed in white, and it's the pearly gates, and he spreads his arms, but then he breaks into song:

Whoah, Death come a knockin' on that Christian's door,
Said, "Old Christian, are you ready to go?"
He said, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Because I ain't got on my travelin' shoes...
(Ain't paid my dues, yes, sayin'...)
...No, no, no, Oh Lordy, no, no, no
Because I ain't got on my travelin' shoes..."

Pad explains to God: "I left a job unfinished," so boom, he's back in his hospital bed looking pretty darn good. It's a miracle!

[If you taped this, go back and look at the doctor in the background: he spreads his arms in pious amazement and then stares all astonished at his stethoscope like, "Whoah, stethoscope, according to you this guy was gonna be dead!" Fine method acting. --Ed.]

Bouffy recaps his whole pearly-gates experience to his boss, His Eminency (previously seen as that sleazy lawyer guy in Juan Querendón) and says he didn't actually break his sacrament; he'll have to "stop the evil" himself.

Elsewhere, Ruth is all happy, thinking about her brother. "You're my only, last hope!" She innocently adds: "He won't fail me!"

But Darth, a relaxed and cheerful drunk, arrives to boast: he's gotten rid of one of his worst enemies, now there's only Furd and Gabriela to deal with. "Who'd you get rid of?" "Coyote of course, he bothered me, he bothered me right much!" "You killed him?" "He was my enemy, he had to die!"

She screams and hits him, he's confused. "You killed my brother! Your own son!" He rolls his bug eyes. Ruth shrieks and breaks things. "I'm alone again, my father is an assassin." She considers shooting herself in the mouth.

It's another full moon!

Gab is reading something pretty dreadful, or else she's just monologuing as she stares in her book: "I am the Angel of the Apocalypse! ... burning people ... sending of plagues..." what is she wearing, it looks like a black straitjacket pulled down over a white blouse. She's mad at herself for not figuring out that Coyote was the vengeful son, and she gives snake eyes to her pill bottle - she thinks Coyote put poison in it. "War is Declared!" she declares, hmm, what was it before?

Soledad has gone to a convent to end her days. She will pray for her son and make sad speeches. Juan goes to visit her and offer his assistance. "Don't blame yourself, Juan, he chose the path of hate and vengeance. Now sit down, I have to tell you: Raquel confessed to me that Sofia is not Gabriela's daughter, she is the daughter of Eva." Whoah, be still my heart. Where are my travelin' shoes? I'm out of here, Cheryl, back to you!

Melinama - Wow! Warp speed on the recrap. Thank you for your efforts, too. Excellent job covering the important stuff without all the "sofie lines, juan lines, yadda yadda yadda."

I was absolutely ROFLOL (and could not stop laughing) when the PadTad got sent back!!! I have unfinished business! Requires round trip ticket! Himself had to come check on me, in case I needed oxygen.

I am no bible scholar, but I think Gabi was reading from the Book of Revelation in the Bible. That Beethoven music we heard was really weird, since it Just Does Not Match any of other the music we've had in Mexidoom.

Where did Darth go after his own personal revelation? That guy's face makes me laugh. He looks like a squirrel or a chipmunk. I really think he needs to be doing comedy instead of evil bad-guy roles.

Thanks for the recap Melinama. As others have noted I love your ability to give us all the details so succinctly. And you give humorous editoral comments as well.

I find it amusing that after months of dreck the writers try to go all Greek tragedy and have Darth kill his own son. I was sad to see Coyote go. I didn't think his offenses were enough for death. Perhaps, he was collateral for the wickedness of Darth.

Well Sofia will finally know who her true mother is. It's fun to be able to enjoy this show again.

Yes Doris Gabi was reading from the book of Revelation and the music was really out of place.

Oh, I'm glad you mentioned the Beethoven, I'd wondered about it but forgot to include it. And thanks for the Revelations pointer too. That's spooky stuff!

If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was. We do not possess anything in this world, least of all other people. We only imagine that we do. Our friends, our lovers, our spouses, even our children are not ours; they belong only to themselves.

~Alison Willcocks~

Sorry ladies. Looks like your beloved Coyote the Yul Bryner jr himself was killed by none other than his father, Ricardo Uribe Sr. Such a tragedy indeed. Poor Ruth is all alone in this cruel world. What will she do now? Everyone hates her. Too bad i'm not in the novela. Or else I can save her ass.

Unlike many here, I never considered Coyote to really be a villain. Maybe a Villain to the villains.....Yes he did not have to die. But the joke now is on Ricardo Uribe who seems impactada at the revelation that he killed his only son.

Has there been a funeral for Raquel and Coyote yet? Or are they freezing Raquel's body while the 'investigation'to her murder is ongoing? Things were hot and heavy tonight. Things seem to get more intense now that we are nearing the end. Good thing there were no Quintina and the spinsters nonsense... However here is something for all you fuego fans.

The use of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125, the "Choral". As the punctuating theme music to Gabriela's reading of the Apocalypse in the Revelation is approriate to me. Most of us may not be used to it since it was never used before. She really is crazy and out of touch with reality since she believes that she is not evil and follows the Bible....

Ibarramedia

Ibarramedia - I thought that piece was from B's 9th symphony, but it has been ages since I listened to the entire piece so I wasn't sure. It's my favorite of all his symphonies. & Thanks for the bloopers links. Those are priceless.

Another thing about this episode that bothered (circo-city) me was that Coyote is shot in the heart while standing there talking to Juan. YET... there is no reaction from I-Juan-a-Brain along the lines of "who did it?" "why?" "am I next?" etc. Hel-lo? Someone was killed while talking to you, old boy! He showed appropriate compassion to Soledad but no freaking out, this is just another business-as-usual day in Mexidoom.

And of course we note Coyote is shot, dies, yet nobody calls the police. Business. As. Usual. In Mexiloon. Gaaaaah!~

Updated Death count score:

Ricardo Uribe's victims are:
1) Juan Jose Reyes
2) Maria Libia Robles-Reyes
3) Raquel Uribe
4) Ricardo 'Coyote' Uribe Jr.

Fernando Escandon's Victims are:

1)Bernardo Elizondo
2)Libia Reyes
3)Petra the old hag
5)Anselmo Cruz
4)Mapache
6)Right Armando
7)Rosario Montez
8)Doctor 'Matanasos' Gomez

Ricardo might have also killed his brother and sister in law; remember they died under "mysterious" circumstances.

A moment of silence for El Coyote...

Melinama, thank you for the recap. As you pointed out, the Dr threw his hands in the air when Pad Tad rejoined the living.
Ow ow ow Owwwwwwwwwww!
That's my Tribute to my man, Coyote.
Heck. He didn't deserve to die like that.
But, Darth was so worried about Juan finding out he is the "Asesino de los Padres de los Reyes", and so worried about Juan's vengeance, why didn't Darth just shoot his main enemy, Juan, instead?
ITA with whoever said yesterday that the villains have the stage and it's a much more interesting story that way.
"Creemelo", still sniveling over Coyote.

Thanks, Melinama.

May El Coyote RIP. He shouldn't have given Crabi those adulterated pills...bad karma. Of course, Soledad was in anguish over losing her son but if someone for the second time, doused me with gasoline, whacked me over the head and set the room on fire, I might want to let someone know maybe even the police. Maybe it's just me.

Yeah, you're right, Creemelo. Why didn't Darth shoot Juan instead. Duh... lol. GinCA

Thank you Melinama for the fun to read recap.

No, No, No! I can't believe Coyote is gone.

Creemelo, I agree he didn't need to die or die that way. (I'm sniveling right along with you).

Loved Karen's explanation that "...after months of dreck the writers try to go all Greek tragedy and have Darth kill his own son."

The Padre Tadeo death/resurrection was ridiculous. He could manage to speak all of the siblings' names but not that of Feo, who tried to murder him?? What was the point of his keeping mum on that? It had nothing to do with breaking the confessional seal. Oh, I see, he's going to take care of everything himself. Well since he has done nothing to stop any of the murders or mayhem thus far, it will be interesting to see how he manages to accomplish that.

GinCA, yes, unbelievably frustrating that Soledad would not tell Muttonchops about Crabi's second failed murder attempt. She's aleady lost her reason for living - Coyote and there's nothing Crabi can do to her.

So, where's Feo? Diana in MA

Melinama great recrap. Our beloved Coyote is no more. For all of the Coyote worshipers here is a link to a tribute on You Tube.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=O_oc9LK5X98

Did anyone notice that nobody said a word about the fire? Coyote was so intent on talking to Juan that he didn't even notice that his mother was almost roasted--again.

Definitely a 2 hankie episode.

Thanks for the early bird special, Melinama. I gave up on the show a long time ago, but always read the wonderful recaps and comments. I tuned back in to see some of the last few weeks of this mess. What do I find? Coyote is killed! And Gabi is babbling about the Bible after setting a blind woman on fire - again. Where's the novela justice...
jb

Melinama, what an excellent recap. I was impressed that the Dr. made use of that tried and true but underutilized medical treatment known affectionately by those of us in the business as benign neglect. This Dr. took it to a whole new level.

Poor Coyote, he piddled around just a bit too long and now he's gone, guided no doubt to an Aztec Valhalla by 2 scrawny little foxes. We will miss you Señor, you talked a good game.

Carlos

Love the new picture Carlos. How is little BB doing today?

Did anyone else think the makeup job on Pad Tad was awful? The way he was breathing reminded me of the Alien movies where the creature breaks out of the victim's chest.

Thanks for the ation packed recap!! After months of slow paced story-telling, looks like the writers have reved up a notch which makes their usual carelessness to details even more astounding!!

Hey, Franco-Sarita fans notice that even at the padres' deathbed, they manage to sneak in a kiss, albeit, a mournful one!!
Dee2

Oh Connie (sniff, sniff) thanks for the link to the Coyote tribute. Carlos, I choose to picture him as you mentioned, going to Valhalla with his two little foxes by his side...
But hey! As GinC said, why wouldn't Soledad report the attempt on her life?
Especially since she knows Crabi is a danger to others?
"Creemelo"

Thanks, Melinama, great recrap of an action packed episode. Everyone's comments were great, too. I had just a couple of additional observations- Where did Juan go just after Coyote's shooting, and why? Suddenly, without a word, he's gone, one of the funkies is helping Coyote, and Juan comes riding up on Capricho. WTF!? Later, when he learns that he has just killed his own son, Darth disappears, leaving Root to cry (though it looked more like laughing)...Crabi's reading of Revelations was more than arationalization, it was more like a ordination, she was fulfilling the prophesy, and I think that's why they were playing the Beethoven...Something tells me that Root is going to be saved still, and I think that Soledad will be part of it, despite her now-found vocation. Crabi isn't done with her, I think that she is part of the enemy that Crabi has declared war upon. It's goping to be interesting to see what Pad Tad is going to do now that he has dedicated to defending everyone despite having been nearly eviscerated. Since there was devine intervention in his near death recovery, no doubt he will posses some special insights and abilities. He will become Super Sacedote. "Course, I could be wrong about this, as I generally am...

Oh, yeah, I'm gonna miss Coyote, too. They killed him off before he could do what he needed to do. Lastima!

Oh Melinama...this is so silly but I can't read your recap even though I know it's excellent. For some reason it KILLS me that they did away with Coyote. And Hell! I hardly ever watch this show. But dang it, I wanted him to be redeemed and live happily ever after with skanky sis Ruth.

And whoever thanked you for Early Bird Recap (was it Carlos?)...love it! As one who's ready to eat dinner by 4 pm....I'm on board.

Why didn't the Santa Muerte appear when Coyote was killed or even just before he was shot? The same for Pad Tad. When he "died" I didn't seen him either.

Lol, Carlos.... Benign neglect and a whopping lawsuit for no medical treatment besides a magical stethoscope... and no ambulance call to go to the big city hospital. Lol.. And Coyote did piddle around so long he ran out of time, he talked a good game, so off to Aztec Vahalla guided by the two scrawny foxes. Yes, he like everyone else never gets to the point GinCA

Pad Tad survived w/o a milagro pill, wow, a first.
Gab should get a gun, she is very inept at arson, couldn't kill the Reyes & Sofia or Soledad, twice. She practically admits murder to Coyote, lucky for her he didn't get a miracle pill.
I'm sure Juan will drag out telling Sofia about her true mamá for a few episodes.
Ruth must be punished for the snake in the room of the niñas, that is unforgivable in novela land.
variopinta

Connie, thanks for inquiring about little BB. With the approval of her family vet we were able to ditch that maldita collar. Besides the fact that she looked ridiculous in it, I think it was damaging her self-esteem. She is almost walking normally and has dropped 5 lbs (the specialist had the nerve to call her obese!). Only about 6 wks. to go!

Carlos

I have to admit that I laughed hysterically while Coyote was lying in his mother's arms, dying. His chest was bloody from the gunshot wound, but all I could see were the fox's little, beady eyes, and the way the fox was positioned on his chest it looked like the fox had taken a bite out him! LOL

Thx Melinama for the great recap! So fast and to the point!

We all ask, why doesn't Soledad tell the authorities that Gabi set the fire? Why doesn't PadTad tell the authorities that Feo stabbed him, when that's not covered by the seal of confession? And for that matter, why did Soledad just tell Juan that Sofia is Eva's daughter, out of the 5 or 6 other secrets she knows? The answer - because under the telenovela rules, every secret has to stew in people's brains for at least 12 episodes, and then they can only reveal one secret at a time, since the budget on that "impactado" sound effect has been cut this year, because of the economy. Simple, no?

I was pretty shocked that they took Coyote out like that - I definitely didn't see that coming. Especially since Ricardo should have been blind drunk at the time, who would have expected him to have eagle-eye precision on his target from who knows how far away?

As many have pointed out, the murders and attempted murders are coming so fast and furious now, no one seems to have time to notify the commisario. But what about all of Coyote's posse? Were they so dependent on his ordenes that it didn't occur to any of them to run quickly into the woods in the direction of the shot with all their heavy arms to try to catch whoever shot their jefe? I don't think anyone last night ever asked the question "who do you think shot the Coyote?"

It's also kind of funny how Coyote's armed posse has been co-existing in these environs with the commissario and whoever he has. Didn't they all go searching for Raquel together? What are they, the commissariat auxiliary?

Juan's generally not too good at keeping secrets, so let's hope Sofia gets her good news soon. But that's going to mess up her logic about keeping the secret of the snake belt from Juan, so we've got at least one more break up between them to endure before the inevitable wedding.

Great recap. The scene when Pad Tad was in the white light reminded me of Jor El on planet Krypton in Superman. All that was missing was the "S" on his chest. Too bad coyote is gone and what will Ricardo do now that he realized that he killed his own son. It wasn't sure of Ruth was crying or laughing in that scene when she broke things. The show is moving at a rapid pace to it's conclusion and looking forward to see how all the bad people will get their comeuppance. Especially Feo and Gabi.

Coyote, Coyote, Coyote..... you didn't listen to your mother... hate and vengeance are not good and you should have done what Pad Tad did when he saw the light.... let God know that your mission on earth was not complete, after all, you still had to tell Juan who killed Libia and take care of your Sis Root!

Fuego in AZ alreading missing our man, Coyote.

I thought Ruth was laughing, also, after Darth left. (Nice to know I'm not the only one who thought that.)

I loved the recap. Thanks, Melinama!
I wondered how Gabi got into Soledad's house w/o anyone noticing her entrance/departure. When Gabi was inside talking to Soledad and couldn't extract the info she wanted from Soledad, she had time to go outside, get the gasoline, douse the house, hit Soledad with the crucifix, light it, and leave (calmly). And no one noticed!!! Where were all the men who guard the house? Were they all with Coyote???
Just wondering....
Paty

I too thought how very Greek tragedy to have Rico kill his own unknown son. Of course with how convoluted this show has become, them may also need a "machine of the Gods" to wind it up.

I was hoping Ruth was going to take her dad out, then maybe Feo too just because it felt so good the first time. Maybe she still will.

Juan had better go to Sophia and tell her it time to leave, she owes the old witch nothing becasue they aren't even family!

Molly in OR

Will definitely miss Coyote. And who's going to tell El Jefe in El Reclusorio? But I knew as soon as Coyote thought bubbled that he'd tell Juan the nuclear secret about Libia's being killed by Feo that he was toast. No way Feo is going to get his just desserts until the very last episode.

And,yes, it's completely ridiculous that Soledad tells no one what Crabi did. Of course, Crabi can't get hers either until the two-hour finale!

Isn't the 9th Symphony about the awakening of all the primal forces of the universe? If so, it seems like a great choice. I knew I recognized the music when I heard it but couldn't place what piece it was. Thank you for the additional info.

Someone asked why we didn't see the Santa Muerte for Coyote? But I think we did, when he was standing over Raquel's corpse in the ravine. The figure of death was there. He has always shown up to predict death, and I think that was his wake up call for Coyote.
:o(
"Creemlo", still sniveling over Coyote

There is a superstition believed by some that writing a 9th symphony can be fatal for its composer from Beethoven onwards. Most prominent examples besides Beethoven are Schubert, Dvorak, Bruckner, Mahler and Williams. Does this portend Gabi's demise?

RSK

Coyote had to die because of his desire for vengeance. There are many moral themes in this telenovela, and this was yet one more. Vengeance will not be rewarded by the Christian New Testament God (unlike the Old Testament dude), so Coyo had to die. Unfortunately. Waaah!

I believe the Padre lived... er... got another chance and was sent back because he did not breach his priest-confessor confidentiality. Another lesson to the masses. The priest will keep your confessional secrets!

I'm still going to go with Ruth-will-die because of the snake in the babies' room.

If I didn't know better, I would think the Catholic church wrote & funded the making of this telenovela. So many prayer vigils, church services, moral lessons, "trust in God" lines, "pray and your prayers will be answered," etc.

I can't hear the 2nd or 4th movements of Beethoven's "glorious 9th" without thinking of A Clockwork Orange! (It didn't hurt that I was actually eating a blood orange at that very moment last night!)

I'm going to miss Coyote. :(

Good point that St. Death was there when Coyote was hanging out with dead Raquel... but Coyote didn't see him. And Juan was there, too. Do we think Juan's going to die?

I think it's more a matter of things simply not being very consistent. Just tighten the beanie and you won't even know the difference. :-)

Dorado Dave: "Where did Juan go just after Coyote's shooting, and why? Suddenly, without a word, he's gone, one of the funkies is helping Coyote, and Juan comes riding up on Capricho."

When he came back, he apologized to Soledad for taking off and said he had gone to look for the shooter.

I hope that beady-eyed weasel (Darth) gets what is coming to him. And soon!

Thanks, Melinama ` This show makes me weary. It makes no sense at all. I am ready to move on. I was so hopeful at the start...Eduardo...Adela...shirtless baking...skinnydipping...gorgeous horses...but everything went downhill fast. Make it stop. P.S. Who gets Coyote's nastytacky fox collar ??? Root ??? I'd like to see her wearing it with her halter top and chaps.

Oh Coyote, we hardly knew ye! Fare you well and may you avoid the gates of Hell..... --Bummer, man! A real bummer!
----------
Thanks, Melinama for the fun read. A true WTF moment: Pad Tad being boomeranged back from Heaven and perfectly coiffed! ROFLOL!

And BTW, does anyone know how in the world Gabi found out where Soledad lived? I must have missed that scene. Did Darth or Root tell her or is she a cousin to the wicked witch of Mexidoom-East and possess one of those magic glass globes?

Santa Muerte has come twice for Coyote:

The first time was a while ago. It was a daytime outdoor scene with Fernando or some thugs and Santa Muerte was standing there in the background.

The second time was with Raquel.

Santa Muerte also showed up right before Feo stabbed the Padre.

If vengeance is the root of all evil, then the Reyes bros had better give it up quick before Death notices them. Coyote hadn't actually killed anyone as part of his revenge yet, had he? Even though it would have gotten Fernando in trouble, he was just trying to tell Juan a fact that he needed to know. Juan would have been the one doing the dirty work.

also since Darth knew where Soledad lived, why didn't he put 2+2 together when Coyote and Juan rendezvoused in front of her house? if he was clear-headed enough to shoot Coyote in the heart, he should have asked himself why these guys were meeting at Soledad's.

Thanks, Julie, I missed what he said. Maybe I'll check the youtube clip.
Vengance has been the underlying theme throughout this TN, seems like everyone has wanted to get back at someone the whole time. And if I remember my chatechism correctly, the thought of committing a sin is a sin itself. By that alone, most of these characters are doomed.
I think that Root will confess to dropping the snake, and thayt will be her salvation. Maybe she'll even turn in daddy for offing Coyote, too. Who is the love interest for Colunga in Manana? She's gorgeous...

Hi Melinama, I am in the airport in Phoenix transferring from Puerto Vallarta to Abq. I just downloaded this recap and the comments to read on the plane. See you all next week Thanks for doing the four fab recaps, I am sure the gang all enjoyed reading your ascerbic wit and wisdom about this insane plot that just won't quit. I'll catch up with everyone by the weekend and be ready to ride again next Tuesday. Mil besos para mis amigos.

I am a pacifist but If I ever visit Mexico and meet one of the FELS writers in a dark alley, he had better watch out. But better not say that, remembering poor Coyote, vengeance seems to be a sin as Dorado Dave has mentioned. GinCA

Ruth always wears gloves, is there some reason other than always being prepared for riding a horse?
