Tontas Tuesday March 3, '09 Things Are Heating Up!

Well, we had a sizzling episode tonight. Not as hot as we were led to believe, of course. But someone got lucky: it just wasn't Patricio and Candy. Here's how things panned out.

We start with a lovely shot of sky over Guadalajara and then descend into the mess that people make of their lives. In this case, Eduardo and Chayo. Lalo's still thinking he can wriggle out of his latest amorous escapade but Hortensia is giving him some straight talk. To his weak excuse of "I'm just a man" she sneers, If you were REALLY a man, you'd be faithful to one woman.

Don't think he got the message yet...but it was delivered.

And speaking of infidelity...we're back with Patricio and Candy. Tender, brushup one-lipped kisses again, deepening now, becoming more passionate, her dress lies on the floor, they're wrapped in each others arms...they're....dang, it was just Patricio's imagination! Candy's looking at his spacey face, asking him where he's "gone" and he replies artfully, I was dreaming of what our life together could have been. Beautiful. Good. Like you.

Santiago, "Bachelor No. 2" is looking at himself sadly in the mirror and then again at the cellphone photo Meño took of Candy and Patricio together. Very sad indeed.

Back to our couple. Pato confesses he has a secret. C- What, another son!? P- No, another key.C- I might have known! How dare you! P- Yes, it was a trick. I needed a chance to be with you. You won't forgive me will you. C-Take these handcuffs off.

Now this deserves a special paragraph because Candy FINALLY asks forgiveness. Now it's my turn to talk, she begins. Forgive me for having lied to you for so many years. And for having kept you from your son. Once when he asked about you I showed him a picture of a rival (to Pato's team) soccer player. P-Noooo! C-I really hurt you. They conclude by realizing the one they really need forgiveness from now is not each other....but their son.

I just wanted to jump up and down. I loved this scene. There was honesty, accountability, tenderness, forgiveness....it was great. Worth waiting for. Others may react differently but for me this was the highlight of the evening.

Santiago, however, is not having such a good night. Still involved with his mirror and going over the conversation with Meño. Finally he decides to call Candy. Gets her answering machine. Starts to leave a message and then decides he doesn't really have anything to say.

Alicia, on the other hand, has plenty to say. She's threatening to expose her father-in-law as "un ladron de guante blanco" (literally a white-gloved robber. we'd say "white collar criminal"). He's unfazed until she mentions jail and then asks tersely what she wants. Money? No, she has plenty of that with his very successful son. But she wants Patricio back, and Candy out of the picture.

More nefarious doings, with Marissa setting up a spycam videorecorder in Candy's office. The technician assures her it will only take a couple of hours to install and she can see and hear everything that happens on her computer at home. More fun for our Mariloca.

Gregoria, who's gradually becoming more "simpatica" (likeable) is offering Meño some of her insurance money if it will help him hold on to the restaurant. And Zamora and Toño are marching around holding placards and shouting Resist! Resist! Those two were born premature, muses Gregoria. Virgin brains.

Gals, have you ever cleaned house when you were really really mad? I have and that's exactly what Chayo's doing as she grapples with her fury at Lalo. Just about scrubbing the top layer off the credenza that holds the photos of her and her husband. Finally slips the picture out of one of the frames, hestitates, and then slowly rips it apart. It's in shreds...like her heart. Eduardo blows in with his usual excuses....It was nothing. She meant nothing to me. You know I love you etc. Chayo firmly answers Thanks for shattering the love I had for you. He's undeterred and picks up the photo pieces, planning to glue them back together. Guess he thinks he can do the same thing with the relationship. Not a fast learner, our Lalo.

Back to the Love Shack. Candy's nibbling on fruit....smiling dreamily. Pato's in the bath, offering to share the tub. Nothin' doin' so he comes out, all snuggly in a towel robe and admits he's not sorry for the trick because it was a wonderful night. Indeed it was, she agrees. Hmmmm. He also lets her know he's not living with Alicia anymore, but has moved to a hotel.

At the Institute, the women are all talking excitedly about the radio program and the possibilities. But no salsa and no horoscopes from Meño, insists Marissa. This is going to be women helping women.

The comic relief is still marching around with their Resist placards. When Meño wonders why they're so over the top, Zamora mentions the children. Does he have any? No....but some day. Toño is left to ponder what it means when someone says roll up the placard and put it.....er....somewhere....

Candy and Patricio are still talking. Did you leave Alicia for me...or for you? For both, is the reply. She's looking at her cellphone and realizing that Santiago called but didn't leave a message but Pato recaptures her attention by handing her a thick sheaf of papers and saying....for eight years, here's what I wote....about you...what I felt, the hurt, how much I loved you, how much I missed you.

Will Candy read it? Will it change things? Who knows? In the meantime, the fabulous spycam is installed and a happy Marissa is asking, Check or cash? (cheque o effectivo) And we break for ads.

Hortensia is snuggled up to Santiago, vowing that she can't work for Eduardo anymore after what he's done. But you don't work for him, you work for me, replies Santi, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. And Lalo really regrets what he's done. Hortensia looks at his sad face and asks him what's wrong. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, he answers....and this time I lost.

Another losing lover is our Donato, hauling in a gazillion plastic shopping bags and complaining. Tina's not buying it. Her husband could go shopping with her if it's such a "chore"!....and just what are you doing with her picture in your jacket pocket!? Donato looks like he's going to deny, deny, deny.

Another lovelorn person....Soledad. She's fending off Zamora who's trying to collect on that dinner she promised. Instead, she picks up the cellphone that Pato gave Beto and calls....guess who?

Patricio and Alicia are having a little throwdown, but not the fun kind. He's protesting her treatment of his clothes (all over the floor and the stairs) and she's grabbing his cellphone when she hears it ringing. He protests that the phone call is from Beto and besides it's none of her business. She's still trying to negotiate a détente, promising to pick up his clothes and visit Beto with him if he'll just stay. No, no and no.

More splits. Lalo's gluing the picture back together while Chayo demands a divorce and that he move out of the house. No way. I pay for this place and I'm not leaving is his reply.

Meño and Candy are talking. She's feeling bad about Patricio leaving Alicia. He's feeling bad because he's got to deliver the bad news that they're going to be out on the street. Impactada look from Candy.

Meanwhile, Santiago's at Marissa's apartment, trying to talk himself into the relationship again. Although he hasn't heard a word she's said about the new radio deal for the Institute, he bravely says that" when we marry, we'll be very happy". Marissa agrees, says she loves him and begins suctioning his lips. (These were truly ugly kisses. That's all I can say.)

The sad conversation between Candy and Meño continues. She's all "we'll start over". He's all "it's too late for me". Fuera dolor! she replies. I can't help you with anything, he muses to himself. Foreshadowing? I hope not. We break for ads again.

Well, it's evidently après l'amour at Marissa's. Santiago, seemingly nude, answers the phone when Candy calls. Marissa can't come to the phone, she's in the shower after making mad passionate love. Oh, sorry, is this Santiago? I thought it was Juan Pablo. He was there the last time I called. (wicked move Candy). Santiago seems to take this seriously for a while whereas Marissa, fresh from the shower, thinks he's talking about the last Pope.

Well if Santiago has no reason for jealousy (with Marissa anyway) Chayo sure does. Even though Lalo is dismissing her feelings as unimportant....because the affair was unimportant. Candy is right! Men can only keep one promise, fumes Chayo, to be faithful to infidelity!

A simple affair is not the end of the world, replies her husband. Well, I have something to confess, adds Chayo quietly. A month ago when I was feeling bad, I went to see Santiago, and one thing led to another....(Lalo's getting agitated)...and he rang the bell like he does, you know, for a very "special patient"...(Lalo's turning red) and.... Before she can go any further, he grabs her and shrieks, YOU MEAN YOU CHEATED ON ME WITH MY BEST FRIEND!!!??? No, replies Chayo smoothly....I was just showing you that "betrayal is not more or less serious". It's betrayal. And I want you and your stuff out of here.

Eduardo mutters that his wife has gone crazy. And Lulu is saying the same thing....about Zamora and Toño. They're posing now as handicapped ragged beggars and reminding her that they're in trouble if they have no food. She has "reserves". Are you saying that because I'm fat!!?? No, howls Zamora. I'm saying it because you also have your job at the Institute.

Candy and Marissa are talking about the rental problem. Marissa proposes asking Raúl for help but Candy nixes that idea. She's going to try and work out something with the landlord. And another ad.

When we come back, Eduardo's in Santiago's office and Santi's trying to make him see reason. Chayo's right to throw him out. You have a compulsion to go after every skirt that passes, adds his pal. But I love Chayo, protests her bewildered husband. Suddenly Candy bursts in the room and tells him he has a a patient waiting....er, no, not Candy but Hortensia. Our doctor plastico realizes he's in a bad way, he's seeing Candy everywhere.

Candy, in the meantime, is having a very hard time being seen by Señor Brivieska. His secretary keeps putting her off saying he doesn't have time and there's somebody else interested in renting the properties. Superwoman Candy finds a way out. She asks the window washer outside if he can give her a lift (aventon) rides up and bangs on the window, is helped in by the nervous landlord/nasty son and before you can say Jack Rabbit has negotiated a rental agreement. All the gals cheer her like the heroine she is. (alas, the restaurant price was too high. that problem remains unresolved).

Soledad and Patricio. He's come to see Beto. She admits the message was actually from her. She confesses she was hoping he'd leave Alicia for her. And yes, she knows he loves Candy. But he stopped loving Alicia. Maybe he'll also stop loving Candy. She misses him. She's lonely. I'll compress this painful scene. He assures her he wants to protect both her and Beto. But he loves Candy. We were fine before Candy came along, she reminds him. He asks her forgiveness....repeatedly...but again, firmly tells her that he loves Candy. Candy is the love of his life. He kisses her on the forehead and leaves. A tear rolls down her cheek. Alone again.

Pato's dad has gone to Gregoria to ask her help in muzzling Alicia. (I wish you luck there, hombre). He tells her, without going into detail, that Alicia has copies of documents that could ruin him if they got out.

A happier scene with the cluster of "Institutas" gathered around Candy, proclaiming her the Reina Gay for having pulled off the rental agreement. They all troop off to have a cup of coffee as celebration. Where's the tequila?

Not so happy a scene at Chayo and Eduardo's. She arrives home expecting to find him gone and instead he's watching soccer with his Iron John buddies. They ignore her. She stands in front of the tv and tells him to get out. She wants a divorce. It's my home and I paid for it, he snarls. I'm not leaving. She calls him "venadito" which I guess can mean someone who plays hooky. He addresses her as "chaparrito" which means shorty. These are clearly not pet love names for each other. So this is a declaration of war, she concludes. Yeah, he says, returning to his group and the tv, yelling "Goal!" and completely ignoring her. Very ugly scene. I thought there was some chance of Eduardo being redeemed. Now I'm not so sure. Ugly ugly ugly.

More uglies at Alicia and Pato's apartment. Alicia's exercising again( her favorite way to deal with stress...no housecleaning for her thank you very much) while Gregoria tries to persuade her to stop pressuring Pato's father. You know I never mattered to you, yells Alicia. You're living with my sister...and both you and she are garbage!

Pow! Mom slaps her a good one. And that's our show for tonight. Mostly ugly. Hot, but not in a good way. And who knows where it all will lead?

Previews: Isabella is telling Santiago why he sees Candy everywhere. Because she's only in one place....his heart. Patricio seems to be gaining ground with Candy and when she gets a phone call from Santiago saying he wants to be with her, Pato grabs the phone.

Nice job amiga. I knew I could count on you for a thorough recap filled with great visuals. I pre-empted Tontas tonight for the Sharks game. The only scene I'm sorry I missed is the Scene of Honesty between Candy and Pato. I hope for Beto's sake they can end up friends, but I don't want them to be lovers or get married. I would have liked to see Candy confronting the mean son too.

So Marissa installed a snoop cam? Holy cow what a witch! That's like reading somebody's diary...don't get mad if you see something you're not supposed to see. What more does she want to find out? She already knows Santi doesn't love her. She's just going to drive herself more loca.

Thanks so much for the terrific recap and fantastic vocabulary words and phrases.

Thank you, Judy, for the quick recap. I missed the show tonight so I appreciated the info. I'm glad you enjoyed the remainder of the Pat/Candy scene.

When Santi is alone at his house, tormented because he lost her, did anyone notice how barren the room looked?

Lessons for Pat. If pathetic begging were an effective way to win your true love's heart, then Pat would be back with either Alicia or Soledad. They can't beg him into loving them. If it doesn't work on him, why does he think his begging will work on Candy?

PS Sylvia...hope the Sharks won. The Buckeyes pulled out a desperation must-win game against Iowa last night. Because it didn't start till 9 pm I was able to watch the last half. Getting ready now to re-savor the win, reading about it in the sports pages.

Hmmm...guess you can't have a PS without posting a comment earlier. Irish Breakfast Tea hasn't kicked in, evidently.

Actually, I didn't notice how barren the room looked, Paula, but I'll go with your comment. You're so good at these details.

I always get derailed by the "looking in the mirror" bit. People say they actually do it during minutes of crisis, but I find it to be a theatrical contrived bit myself. I can talk to my heart and soul just fine without the mirror, but writers seem to think this is de rigeur when a character is having a self-confrontation.

Hello All,

This is only my second timing commenting, but I always love reading your comments each week. I wanted to pop in to declare that I am on Team Patricio! Yes, unpopular. I know. But I have looked at our two galans and I have weighed their pluses and minus’s side by side, and Pat’s coming up with more pluses. Hear me out:
-Both Pat and Santiago used women (many women) to dull the pain of lost love.
-Both Pat and Santi got into serious relationships with women they don’t love (Alicia and Mari).
- Both Pat and Sati are great with the two children in their lives and treat them equally despite the fact that for Santiago one of them is really his niece and for Pat one is the product of a 1-night-stand and the other the child with “the love of his life.”
-Both have done stupid/silly things to get Candi to be with them (infestation of hamsters, handcuffs, etc.)

Pat has grown tremendously since this all began. He was once the rich boy who took everything he had (including the love of his life) for granted, drank to excess like his father, and hurt the people he loved when he drank (like his father). He has now forgiven his father (after his dad’s heart attack) for how he treated him and his mother during his drinking years and they now have a loving relationship. He patiently listens and is caring towards his witchy mother and tries to bring out the best in her with talk of her grandsons. He has forgiven Candi for what she did to him, and apologized and told the whole painful truth about what he did to her. He has also done the same with the other two women in his life- Alicia and Soledad. He has treated them with calm kindness, told them the truth about his feelings for them and Candi, and apologized for the part he’s played in hurting them (although they both pursued him with eyes wide open). And he has actually left Alicia!

Santiago on the other hand, despite having witnessed the loving relationship between his parents growing up, and having his wonderful mother living with him and giving great advice, continues to be stuck in the same place. He declares his love for Candi, but doesn’t have the guts to end things with Mari. One minute he’s calling Candi in desperation, the next he is speaking to Mari about their wedding.

Candi loves spending time with both of them, they both make her laugh, they are both great kissers, she has great conversations about life and love with them both, they are both kind to the people in their lives. Maybe Tio M. is right, and she should marry one and keep the other as a lover. 

Someone tell me, why is Santiago the better choice?

-Vivi in DC

Judy, we can always depend on you for informative as well as entertaining recaps coupled with insightful analysis and opinion. You're great.

Just when I'm ready to throw Pat under the bus, along comes Vivi, who has me scurrying to sign on onto Pat's fan club. Good job. If I ever need a lawyer in court, I want her to represent me.

I have abandoned Eddie, but it doesn't look like Chayo's resolve is going to hold up. She almost seemed bemused by the antics of Eddie and his arested development friends.

Carlos

Wow...Vivi in DC. First of all, thanks for commenting. When people say nothing, we think nobody is watching or reading.

And what a great analysis. You aren't Paula's sister by any chance?

I too was really impressed by Pato's calm firmness with the two leftover women in his life. He keeps saying no. He keeps offering friendship. He's upfront, honest....and firm.

Santiago COULD make the same choice....to support his son-to-be financially and emotionally without being married to the mother. Although with Mariloca, we can definitely fear a worse fate for the little bambino than just having parents in separate digs. We keep getting ominous rumblings of some revenge she's intending on Santi. Sure hope it doesn't involve the baby but how could it not?

Glad you're on Team Patricio, Vivi. That bench was mighty lonely. Others may join you now that you've pleaded the case so well.

Decie Girl? Are you still out there?

Hey Carlos...thanks...and you posted while I was writing. And you intuited my next question...Is ANYONE on Team Eduardo?

Some of us were holding out hope for redemption (I have the genes of a cockeyed optimist)but his behavior last night was so disrespectful and loathsome.

On the other hand, people do act in loathsome ugly ways when a marriage is hitting the rocks (been there, done that) so I'm still holding out a wee bit of hope for live, learn and reform for our guy.

Hell, he's kinda cute. Would hate to see him go down the drain. And Chayo doesn't really want a divorce....she just wants a loving faithful partner.(Don't we all?)

Hi Vivi, thanks for popping in. Your analysis is excellent and you make some very good points. Another thing that Patricio has going for him is that he was Candy's first love. However this could be the very thing that weighs most heavily against him, whether or not she will really be able to forgive him for his past betrayal...and whether or not she believes he won't betray her again.

The bottom line when it comes to love, sometimes it doesn't matter how the pros and cons are weighed, one's heart will lead one by the nose.

I'm still on team Santiago because in spite of his flaws he demonstrates an inner strength that I haven't seen in Patricio. I have a feeling that Mariloca will test this strength in the very near future. Also, there is that charisma thing that is hard to quantify; Santiago's got heaps of it.

JudyB, the Sharks lost, boo hoo!! Oh well, they get another chance on Thursday.

We haven't heard from Decie Girl in a while. I think maybe she broke up with us. And speaking of breaking up, I've had it with Lalo. I vote that Chayo should move on and quit wasting her time with him.

Vivi, thank you for adding some spice into the soup (poblano chilies, perhaps?). I sincerely hope we hear more from you.

My position has always been that Pat is not as bad as people think. I guess that makes me a mild supporter. He was dealt a bad hand in life (crappy upbringing), but he's trying his hardest to become a better person, against the odds. His biggest problem is that he is weak by nature, so he often takes two steps forward and one step back. Still, he is progressing. He is also the only character in the show developed with any depth, so that makes him the most interesting.

Santiago's problem is that he has no backbone, and I don't see any signs of him growing one. He lets Marissa manipulate him flagrantly, and he lets Candy get away with all sorts of crap (notice Pat stands up to her). Ever since he fell for Candy and stopped chasing all the other skirts, he hasn't really changed a bit.

I save my serious rants for Candy. Don't get me started on that one.

So what about my comments on Pat this week? It's the handcuffs. Inexcusable. Not unpardonable, mind you; any sin can be forgiven. But inexcusable. It cannot be justified from any angle (except violent criminals, etc.). For Pat's other faults, I can find excuses. But the handcuffs - Pat sank to his lowest. And then it brought Candy closer to him - essentially he won that round - sick. I blame the writers for that one. It deeply disturbed me.

So Vivi, I'll agree with you up to a point. Pat deserves a chance. But those handcuffs.. I be hating those handcuffs.

Sylvia, you have MY Joe Thornton, I'm jealous. We want him back in Boston! Violet

Hmmm...guess I need to know more about YOUR Joe Thornton, Violet. I am embarrassed to admit I don't even know what kind of team the Sharks are (though if they're Sylvia's team I'm rootin' for 'em). Are we talking hockey, soccer, what? (Hopelessly involved in Big Ten basketball....sorry).

Hi again! Thanks for all the supportive messages for my unpopular declaration of support for Pat. I wanted to comment about the handcuffs that have caused so many to condemn Pat forever more. I think we're reading too much into it. (I really don't think the writers view this in the same light we do.) Pat handcuffed them together. He didn't, for example, handcuff her alone to the bed or to a heavy immovable object. And as he was doing it, there wasn't any violence or rage in his demeanor. In fact, he looked like a little boy doing something he knows is wrong and will make the adults mad, but does it any way with an apologetic/comedic look on his face. It was pure desperation to make Candi stay and speak with him. But he never got angry or violent, and I think if he saw that she really just could not stand to be with him that evening, he would have let her go. Ok. I've had my say. I'll fall back into the shadows again now. :)

-Vivi in DC

Judy, thanks for a superb recap. I loved the vocabulary. When Candy was talking to the window washer, I thought she said she wanted a "reventon", which is like a blowout of a party, and didn't make sense. Thanks for pointing out it was "aventon".

I'm still rooting for Chayo and Ed's marriage to be saved, but Ed is really stooping low, with the guys in apartment, and not leaving, and I've just about given up on him. I was trying to figure out what Chayo could do to force him to leave, and I remembered the movie "The War of the Roses", in which Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner tried very drastic measures to get each other out of the house. If you ever saw that movie, let's hope Chayo and Ed don't get that extreme.

Vivi: Your analysis definitely made me see things in a new way. I still like Santiago more, but you make very valid points.

Oh yes,Hombre, War of the Roses....one of the funniest...and saddest movies ever made. I loved how it showed the characteristics of each one at the beginning of the romance, and how those traits, while benign in the first heat of passion, gradually undermined the relationship and led them to hate each other. Very powerful movie.

Yep, last night was a real low for Eduardo. But glad you haven't COMPLETELY given up on him. Because I haven't either.

Whoa...Vivi in DC....quite a turn of phrase there. "Sink back into the shadows". I love it.

Well, I admit, I didn't have quite the strong reaction to the handcuffs that some of our viewers did. Didn't really analyze why but your reasons are interesting.

For sure, he hasn't been able to get her to listen to him any other way.

Questionable move. But gave results. And ultimately no harm done although you would think her family would have been concerned when she didn't come home that night, no?

Judy, we're talkin' hockey here! Joe Thornton was the captain of the Bruins and had played with them since he was 18 until they traded him away.....As I can see from your posts, you love basketball. Me too, go Celts!

Am very impressed with your reading a Grisham novel in Spanish (saw that on your CCEA post). Good for you. I am very envious.

Whew. Okay, I thought it was hockey, Violet, but realized I wasn't sure. I know a few female hockey fans, one a student of mine, but they are few and far between. Seems to be a very visceral, testosterone heavy sport. However basketball is getting that way too.

Loved the Celtics waaaaay back when Bill Russell was playing for them. Nowadays, though I don't watch NBA, in my heart of hearts I root for the Cavaliers just 'cause LeBron is on the team.

Oh, and in a couple of years, you'll be reading Grisham too. Trust me. Start by working your way through magazine articles (if you have any available in Spanish) and eventually you'll be able to enjoy books.

Of course I know you've got to give most of your energy to nursing studies (now THERE'S a challenging field of study) but you're picking up a lot from these telenovelas and in time, this is going to bear much fruit. For sure.

Vivi, you and I will always disagree on the handcuffs, and that's fine. But please do post more. Your observations are thorought and detailed, and your arguments are well supported. It's exactly the kind of analysis I love in TN discussions. I look forward to future posts from you.

Thanks for the recap Judy. I'm glad your Buckeyes are winning. Though I don't keep up with many sports (and typically ignore college b-ball), I know its a rebuilding year for the Hoosiers.

Thanks for your insights Vivi and for posting. While I'm more on team Santi, most of the characters in this novela are vexing.

Hi Karen. Yes, you could hardly ignore the Hoosiers completely, given where you teach. Although I had a friend/student who was faculty at OSU who thoroughly ignored all Buckeye sports and the local newspaper. Only the NYTimes for her, thank you.

Now have to admit (guilty secret) I rather enjoyed former Hoosiers' coach Bobby Knights famous tantrums. Just as much fun as the most outrageous telenovela. But maybe he was before your time.

Thank you Judy! I always look forward to your recaps on Wednesday.
Please Candy and Pat don't burden your son by asking for his forgiveness!! Just try to be reasonable sane parents.
One of Santi's main assets over Pat is that Santi is Jaime Camil. Of course that is a completely biased viewpoint on my part.
I can't get over the handcuff scene for whatever reason Pat had. There is just no excuse for holding someone against their will!!
Soledad was so sad, I wish Pat would forget Candy and learn to love her. That was heartbreaking.
I thought Ed had reformed. Now it looks like it's not possible for him. I was glad to see Hortensia give him a good thrashing!

Carrie L.

What a great memory you have Judy regarding my nursing pursuit! I'm off to take my microbiology exam now. Wish me luck!

Raised with two sports-addicted brothers and father. Had no choice but to go with the flow and love sports. Had my own season ticket to hockey in high school! Even went to school in Montreal. It's a great sport if you give it a chance, very exciting, especially if you go to a game. Nothing like freezing your butt off while cheering your team on!

I still love Bill Russell!

I wish I had time to take another Spanish course, but right now that's not going to happen. I find reading is much easier for me than comprehending orally. If I didn't have the captions, I doubt I would have a clue as to what the characters were saying, and the clue I have is pretty faint as it is regarding that! I'll keep trying though as I love learning this language.

Adios!

Hey there Carrie. Thanks for stopping by. Soledad is heartbreaking. And of course her name means "solitude". And her lament and sorrow is that she's alone. Some heavy-duty symbolism goin' on there.

Like you, I loved Hortensia's rant. And I always get a kick out of her cozying up to Santiago for whatever reason. Hope our husky-voiced babe gets a galan before novela's end.

Violet, who knew you were a soul-mate who loved Bill Russell!? My favorite moments were when he was about to shoot a free throw. Sweat would be dripping down his chiseled face and he looked like an exhausted desert nomad, or perhaps a mad prophet, about to make a declaration. And then whoosh, he'd make the shot. That guy gave his all on the court. And he's worth a gazillion Wilt Chamberlains in my opinion.

Will definitely be holding good thoughts for you on your microbiology exams. This world will always need more good nurses.

Hey Judy, I remember Bobby Knight's rants but could never really enjoy them. It always troubled me why his behavior was never checked when that kind of carrying on would never be accepted from most people.

And yes Bill Russell is worth millions of Wilt Chamberlains. Please don't get me started on the latter.

Best wishes on your exam Violet.

Well, it's definitely a flaw in my character, Karen. I enjoyed Bobby's storms and also those of our beloved football coach Woody Hayes. Mind you, Woody had a deeply compassionate side also, and was wonderful and quite dedicated in his hospital visits. Two sides of a complex and brilliant man....but with a big temper.

Maybe it's because I won't allow myself to explode that I enjoy seeing others get away with it. Must be time to head off to confession.

Violet, San Jose LOVES mighty Joe Thornton. He is interviewed during practically every game. I hope he likes it here and stays a while.

Good luck on your exam!!

Judy, many, many years ago Baylor U.(my alma mater) had a football game with OSU and we flew to Columbus with high hopes. The game was a disaster(for us) but we fell in love with your city and the folks we met. The next morning we watched the Woody Hayes show and he declared that Baylor had a good little football team. We were thrilled(rolling my eyes). Actually I always admired Woody Hayes and OSU. After the game we ate at an absolutely great Italian restaurant in a large white wood framed house. Of course I can't remember the name. Our Lady Bears are doing quite well but our men's team not so. Good luck to OSU>

Violet, good luck on your exam. We Drs. adore nurses.

I've only been to OSU/Columbus once. When I was in college we played the women's team, the Iron Ovaries. (This would be rugby.) They absolutely kicked our butts but they were wonderful hosts. Great memories...

Sylvia, Iron Ovaries? I almost fell off my chair. That's probably the best team name I've ever heard.

Clearly it was memorable to me. That was long ago.

Wow...Iron Ovaries...I've got to remember that one. You've got some interesting arrows in your quiver, Miss Sylvia.

Carlos, glad you liked our fair city and our crusty old coach. He really was a man of the people, everybody in the local groceries and coffee shops knew him. He had a marvelous grasp of history, especially military history, and was an absolute hoot on the TV show when he interviewed the players. You would have thought they were only 10 or so the way he talked to them....but what the heck.

Will have to keep my eye out for Baylor stats now. Is their basketball team any good? Likely to make the NCAA? This is absolutely my favorite time of year when that tournament begins.

Well, will have to keep my eye out

Vivi, I think the only reason SAntiago is better is because he's Jaime Camil. :)

Anyway, nice job as always Judy, and PAula didn't get the chance to comment yesterday but I LOVED your title...so great!!

I haven't seen either epi yet, but I guess I'll have to because that sounds like a great aha moment for Candy and Pato.

Thanks to both of you for your caps!!!

Hello All,

Carlos, this world is way to small. I'm also a BU Grad and if you still live in W, I'm probable the Middle Aged lady standing behind you at HEB!!

BTW, Sylvia - I'm a huge Stars fan!

Thanks to all the hard work and free entertainment you recappers provide.
