MEPS Monday April 13 - this episode left me wanting more......... asskicking.

From Friday – Fr/Ed shows Doctor Obregon who’s boss around these parts.

Margarita is making some tamales, mmmm. I’ve lost 6 of the 20 pounds I’m working on (trying to get back to how thin I was in the picture over to the left) and tamales aren’t on the list of approved foods at the moment. Just the thought of it, mmm. Anyway, there’s a knock at the door, she thinks it’s Gardenia and yells why she doesn’t use her keys. Finally she answers and it’s Jairo and Lucio, looking for Martina and Lil. There is a lot of yelling and at one point Jairo throws Marg on the couch roughly. Then he breaks some stuff, he even flips the table.

Liliana tells Fernanda that Ed comes every day to see her and is upset she married ‘that guy’. Then she starts talking like she’s a kid again, Ed comes and does his homework, something like that, on and on. She mentions La Hiena, Fern tells Damian that’s what they called Barb when they were kids. He laughs hard for a second then recovers. It was pretty funny. Fern asks Lil what Ed is like, Lil says “you know what he’s like – you still love him!” Of course Damian is thrilled at that. Not.

Jairo trashes the house some more. Jacinto busts in and is carrying a riding crop. He knows from Camilo how much those hurt, so he uses it as a weapon to keep Jairo and Lucio away from his wife. He is pretty impressive, coming to the rescue. I would have liked to see him just open a can of whoopass right from the start but he doesn’t. Lucio finds some way to brag about getting Soledad’s house, Jacinto smacks him right in the face. It was AWESOME. More ass-kicking on this show, please. It was so satisfying. Jairo and Lucio leave, uttering many threats along the way.

Barb tells Artemio over the phone – “Eduardo’s days are numbered.” Thanks for the update Barb, too bad you don’t even know where he is.

Fern tries to explain to Lil that they are all grown up now. There is much crying. Lil says that Ed still loves her, he told Lil himself! Damian gets increasingly annoyed.

Apparently Fr/Ed has just told Martina his whole story. Instead of being shocked, she just says “ok cool I’m with you.” At least she’s smart and knows who to ally herself with. So she’s smart, and dresses like that and is able to pull it off. Nice. The nurse walks in (they are in some back room at the loony bin) and Fr/Ed thanks her for her help.

Fernanda gets the details of Eduardo’s visit to the clinic from the doc. He eventually says he has a paper that Ed signed, Fern asks to see it. Damian can’t conceal his annoyance now and doesn’t really try. When they go to the office to get the paper, Ed spies on them through a cracked door. When they are gone, he goes outside to make a phone call.

Martina runs to Lil’s room to check on her. Somehow Ciro’s name comes up and Lil freaks out and wants to go see him.

The nurse tells Ciro that Liliana came back, just for him.

Doctor Obregon finds the ‘signature’ of Eduardo (it’s written in big capital block letters) and gives it to Fern. She asks if she can keep it, Damian asks why? Fern doesn’t have an answer.

Outside, Fr/Ed was talking to someone about plans for his mother’s crypt. He hides behind a tree and spies on Fern and Damian as they come out. She wants to find Ed, he has simply had enough of hearing about Ed and they argue about it. They get in the car and leave.

Gardenia hangs around Las Animas, waiting for Fr/Ed. And OH that dress she has been wearing. I remember asking for an improvement on her hacienda uniform and yes my request has been granted. She is waiting to ask him for help in saving Soledad’s house.

Jacinto and Margarita clean up and talk about Gardenia and her plan to ask Fr/Ed for help. Jacinto is going to go to Fr/Ed’s house to tell him about Jairo and Lucio, thinking the girls are still at Las Animas. On his way out Jacinto tells Margarita to lock the house up tight.

Ed talks to Esteve on the phone, Martina comes outside. I love watching her walk around in that outfit. She tells Fr/Ed that Lil won’t come out, she wants to stay.

Doc Obregon comes into Lil’s room and shoots her up with a big needle, she’s out cold.

Martina says that Lil must be more comfortable here, she understands because now she doesn’t think she can go home again either. We get a shot of Gepetto crying and ranting about his daughter UGLY CRYING ALERT and looking horrible doing it. Fr/Ed says Martina is a good person for helping Lil, even though it cost her so much. He tells her a bunch of the story we’ve already seen in the show so far. He tells Martina that he swears it will work out with her and Gepetto. Then he says he has an idea about what to do about Lil staying in the loony bin.

Doc Obregon is telling Frick and Frack that every day Lil gets a triple dose of the tranquilizer (or medicine or whatever they call it), Frick (or is it Frack?) says that Doc himself said so much might turn her into a vegetable. Doc says how do you know that’s not what I want? Just then Ed busts into the office, reminding me of Clint Eastwook in his old westerns. He lays it out for the doc – Martina is now going to be Lil’s ‘nurse’, she’ll be with her 24/7. If Doc doesn’t go along, Fr/Ed will tell Los Elizalde and the families of all the other patients what has been going on here lately. Doc says Martina won’t look like a nurse (presumably due to her hotness and huge rack) but Fr/Ed just says to make it happen. I would think he’d welcome Martina in a tight nurse’s outfit being around, but then again he does seem sort of gay so who knows.

Arriving back at the Elizalde compound, Damian and Fern are a bit cold to each other, Damian runs off to the office. I know this family owns/runs the company, but I can’t believe how often they AREN’T at work. And when they are there, they aren’t doing anything but arguing with each other. Santiago and Aurora greet Fern, who starts crying. They take her inside.

Fr/Ed and Martina can’t get Lil to wake up, Doc comes in. Fr/Ed pounces and I’m hoping so much for a beatdown but Fr/Ed just swings him around a lot by the front of his shirt. I see him shaking him, threatening him, pushing him back, come on just one good punch! Nope, not today. I’m also really looking forward to (hopefully) Jacinto taking a riding crop to Camilo. Anyway the doctor admits to tranquilizing Lil, claiming she was agitated, etc. That’s when Fr/Ed starts shaking him, yelling that from now on there will be no more drugs of any kind for Lil, none at all. He tells Martina that she can do whatever she has to do to protect Lil. Martina looks like she can’t wait for Doc to step out of line so she can beat him up.

Barb looks at her stolen money on a computer monitor that is from about 1990. Well maybe not the monitor but what she’s looking at on it is some old old software, by the look of it. Damian comes in to her office and retells the visit to Liliana. Basically he says it was a waste of time and Lil’s crazy. Barb wants to know when the processing plant is going to fall apart, Damian says it’s a done deal, she insults him anyway. Just then the phone rings and she is told that there is a big problem with some machinery. Damian has a big grin on his face.

Fernando is convinced that Eduardo is ‘here’, meaning in the area. Santiago figures out that Ed must still love her, he didn’t want her to get married to Damian. Santiago asks what she feels for Ed, she says fear, anxiety, etc. Santiago looks like he wants to say “see you love him too.”

Fr/Ed is finally home, Gardenia asks him for help saving Soledad’s house, he says he can’t help. She is going to press, but Jacinto shows up. Fr/Ed tells him that the Elizaldes volunteered Jacinto to work at Las Animas taking care of the horses. The men leave to go to the stable. Gardenia is crushed. But still looking great in that dress.

Outside, Jacinto tells Fr/Ed about the visit from Jairo, Fr/Ed says not to worry the girls are far away and safe now. Fr/Ed says to leave Lucio be for now, when Barbara goes down Lucio is going down with her.

Doc Obregon brings Martina a nurse’s uniform, unfortunately we don’t get to see her try it on. After he leaves, she tells herself that she is destined to be a nurse. A fake nurse, but still a nurse.

Fr/Ed and Jacinto discuss the identity of the ‘big’ enemy, Jacinto asks if it’s Lucio. Fr/Ed says no, Barbara is the troublemaker around here and there is someone behind her that they need to find. Jacinto then tells Fr/Ed that Fernanda is desperately trying to find him (as Eduardo), Fr/Ed says that she’ll know where he is soon, “she will have news from me tomorrow.”

Tomorrow’s show – Eduardo gets a note to Fernanda with a phone number on it, it appears that it’s the number of a church/monastery/something.

Thanks, Ferro. It was pleasurable watching Fr/Ed throwing Dr. O around. I think the good doctor is more than sort of gay. I think that the lilac shirt and tie was the giveaway. Maybe he sort of likes Fr/Ed swinging him around. Martina is great. I can't wait for her to start her bodyguard/nurse duties. Was Fr/Ed on the phone with the priest ? Will Fr/Ed [as Franco] seduce Nanda ? And Jairo and Lucio have crossed the line and will get theirs eventually.

Thanks for the recap, Ferro. Are you the Chris in the blue shirt in the picture below? You don't sign off with a name, so I'm guessing since I am relatively new to these forums.

As dumb as these telenovelas are, tonight's show was another example of why I/We watch them > My blood pressure went sky high several times during this episode - especially when Obregon gave the shot to Lily when Martina left her alone for "just a minute". I don't think Obregon is giving in to Ed so easily and Martina can't keep her eyes open 24 hours a day.

I found it interesting that Martina made a comment about something being as clear as water - then I saw this phrase on an English speaking web page this morning: “The contract is clear as well water,” I don't recall ever hearing this phrase before- in Spanish or English.

It was hard for the viewer to see how much Lily told Fernanda reflects her "true" state of mind and how much was an act because Damian and Obregon were in the room.

Whichever it was, it was fortunate that she did it and that she was back in the asylum - as Barbara is content that "all is well" at the manicomio. Otherwise, she would have been alerted that Lily has been "rescued".

I noticed the amount of money in her Cayman Islands account (note the name Rebecca Sanchez at the top of the screen) was $157 Million. The monetary unit was given as DLS - which I presume is US Dollars, but not 100% sure. As a former controller (now retired) - it is unfathomable that that amount of money could disappear from a company in one transaction in one day and it be unnoticed. But, we are in telenovelaland.

It would appear that since she now has this money in her possession - is she still beholden to Artemio?? If she is, she must surely have some other motivation in this plot than money - or she could just take her $158 Million and run away from both the Elizalde's and Artemio.

Ed told Steve getting the padre to cooperate was a vital plan or it would fail. I wonder what that will be all about. We know the padre can't lie... can he?? hmmm...

I found this saying by Gardenia interesting. "da con la horma de su zapota". My dictionary says it means Lucio has met his match (from Santorito). Literally "Lucio will be given his shoetree"...??

I wonder when the blacksmith will be clued into what is going on?

The scenes with the blacksmith and Santiago are wearing on me.

One of my favorite commercials of the year is the Gain commercial showing the lady removing clothes in a laundromat from a dryer that has stopped and then becoming mesmerized by the smell and caressing her face with the seemingly white sheet - when the Sumo wrestler walks in with his diaper on and she recognizes the sheet is his diaper!! Ha.....

Gracias, Ferro. Hilarious title. I'm with you: I thought for sure Jacinto was gonna beat Jairo's draws up into his ass catching him in the act of roughing up his moo-hair! Sheesh! Margarita shoulda taken soome lessons from Martina before she became a "nurse" en el cookoo's nest. And Martina was looking like "I wish you would just make a false move, mutha. .. .!"

Silverfox, I'm gonna take care to listen for that phrase you refer to, I don't always, but I watched Friday's episode again and it was great for comprehension.

I was wondering how are they gonna have a new nurse suddenly show up without LaBitch going ballistic. Well, I think Lilie is so acting and I loved it! Not only is it part of the plan but it's a great release for her to express some of her drugged away personality. She's gonna keep Obregon scared and guessing and Nanda's not likely to be back for a while. This oughta keep Martina from being discovered. Also, she can help Aldofina look after Ciro and perhaps defend him from his, uh, wife.

Khalilah

Excellent recap Ferro! There were a lot of expressions that I missed it seems. The problem with them is that they don't necessarily translate the same in English. So thanks for that.

I bet the men of our cyber family thought the puppies were going to get out of the cage! Almost...almost...one more bounce...BREAK. Sorry so sad for you! :)

Where's Crabi when you need her. She would have smacked the life out of those two. Jacinto did a pretty good job but he could have done better.

I hope Martina gets to put some serious smackdown on Dr. O. Fr/Ed was doing a great job. I was even a little afraid! Those eyes though...heavenly.

I feel a phone smashing in the near future. Dam's almost at the end of his rope....

Yah, Connie. You know another beanie point: Ok, upset because your beloved Nana died. Cool. Put the wedding trip off to take care of business and maybe assure that somebody from your past doesn't want to hurt your fam, fine. But you married this man and you don't know his getting nookie deposits, of course, and you expect to put him off day after day, night after night. Yeah, Damian wants to "make her his" not only as a part of Bab's plot, he is starting to huff and puff. If not a cell phone, would he dare take out his frustrations on Babs and go upside her head?

Khalilah

Khalilah, we can only hope! If he hit her with a cell phone then that would kill 2 birds with one stone--he smashed the phone and knocked Barb out. He doesn't seem to have much of a personality in t his show. Maybe it is just me.

Thank you for the recap, Chris! You got some good snark in there, too. ;-) I loved the kick-ass scenes, incl. when Jacinto hit Lucio in the face with a crop. They all sooooo deserved it. Too bad we didn't have Gabi with her whip.

Silverfox - I'm guessing she slowly embezzled the money over the past 15 years.

I wonder how many real-time days it has been since the wedding? MEPS feels like "24" in that each episode seems like one hour from a complete day. Hel-lo? How many days have Fer & Babs been wearing that outfit??? Maybe the boda was really only three days ago in telenovela-time.

Doris, I think those outfits look very uncomfortable. I can't wait for them to change.

Ferro, once again a great recap. It really is good to have you back. Congrats on your wt. loss, but too bad you can't fit tamales into your diet. I admire your resolve.

Lots of satisfaction in this episode. I'm looking forward to Martina expressing herself on Dr. O. He's apparently the designated punching bag and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I want to see a bit more damage done to Lucio and Jairo. I'm sure that I won't be disappointed.

I have just one problem with Martina's new position:

SHE'S NOT A NURSE!

Sadly, she's probably now the most competent member of the staff at the nut house.

Carlos

Carlos, I think she's more like a body guard. She certainly looks like she could kick someone's ass (especially that silly doctor) and I for one certainly hope she gets her chance.

Great recap, Ferro. I, for one, welcome a day off from prurient EC worship from the recapper, and a stated appreciation of the bevy of beauties on parade. That Gardenia is really something, too bad she is soo clueless.
The Jairo/Lucio shakedown was just uncalled for, indeed, they truely deserve an ignoble end. Tearing apart a house and roughing up the lone woman occupant on the suspicion that someone might have been there, and MArg knows Lucio! (We need a better name for this smarmy slimeball). About the riding crop- I do not think that we will ever see one of the protagonists use a weapon against an unarmed villian.

How stupid is Dr. O? Shooting Lili up when he is still in the bldg?!?! He is so lucky that Ed has a plan that requires that Dr. O be intact. And installing Martina as 24/7 " nurse" was quite brilliante, should have seen that coming. I'm thinking that Adolfina, Frick and Frack are going to swing their loyalty and protection toward the patients in general, and especially Lili, and Matamentes is going to have to become a better liar to BOW.

Yeah, what was that comment from said BOW that Eduadrdo's days are numbered? She is no closer to knowing where or who he is that ever- she hasn't a clue. I've said it before- why would she even be hanging around now- she has the familiy's $, the family in tatters, now the plant is on self-destruct mode, it seems.- who cares if Eddy aparezca?

One plot thread that does bother me is Gepeto/Martina. The poor old guy is in such agony, and all by himself; painful crying scene, (mostly because the actor did such a pitifully poor job). Did you see those flat bars hit him on the back/shoulders when he was throwing stuff around? That could really hurt. Anyway, I hope that Eddy comes up with a good plan to stop the alchemist's suffering, and soon, like he said.

Gardenia in sundresses, and Martina in a tight nurse's uniform!

dorado dave

Thank you Ferro for the excellent recap. Loved your title.

I am supposing that Adolfina is another doctor at the hospital - one that's not on Barbie's payroll.

"Martina runs to Lil’s room to check on her. Somehow Ciro’s name comes up and Lil freaks out and wants to go see him."
Martina tries to convince Lili that it's time to leave. Lili freaks - she won't leave - she needs to see her best bud Ciro!

"Frick and Frack" -- LOL! good nicknames for the wonder twins part 2.

:)

Jody- Adolfina isn't even a nurse, as I understand it, she is the receptionist.

I am starting to wonder if we're going to see Babs smash a phone before Damian does.

All the milk's going to go sour. Ew. I wonder how you dispose of spoiled milk.

I think Bravo must be holding something over Babs's head in order for her to still be working for him. We were thinking before that maybe Aurora was her daughter or sister and that has something to do with why she killed her mother - but maybe Bravo has something to do with it too?

Ferro: Thanks for the recap. My TV monitor must be too small. I noticed that Barb was reading a spreadsheet, but in no way shape or form could I have figured out what it was.

As to Gardenia: After last week's discussion about her bubis, I have a hard time concentrating on the dialogue when she's in the picture. I now have to join those who say "enhanced."

Jacinto was way too kind to Lucio and Jairo. I'm going to add them to my list of unredeemables, along with Dr. Obregon, aka Dr. Demented or Dr.Demento. He was just too mean to Lili.

And Superman, oh, I mean Eduardo, takes on another project. He's now going to save Martina and Gepetto. And, as to Gepetto, please make it quick.

There's just something about Geppetto that I don't like. I didn't like him in Destilando and I really don't like him at all in this one. The crying scene was just ghastly.--Fast Forward. Maybe he should talk to Martina before he goes around trashing her. If it wasn't for her he'd be starving.

Ferro, thanks for a great recap! Loved the show...its about time someone beat up the doc, he takes out all his short comings on those poor patients.

So, if Ciro is living, is he going to point Fr/Ed to the box? He knew what the other piece of paper was because he read it.

I think Martina is an awesome body guard for Lili. But she does need to let her dad know she is okay. Maybe her doctor bud will pay a visit to the nut house and get to see her in her nice white uniform. She is one of my favorites. Takes Fr/Eds story in stride says yup sure I'll help. She is awesome!

My son liked Gardenia, but said she is no Rosario. Maybe is she was singing in a giant martini glass he would like her better.

Dave, the girls haven't really given us much to talk about. Really when you have to share the screen with FC, you have to step up your game to get noticed! Even Barb has kept on her clothes for the last few days. I'm sure the men out here will get more eye candy along the way! After all, eventually something is going to happen with the lovely Nanda.

Silverfox, that commerical cracks me up!

Chris: It's so good to have you back. Hope your family is doing well. I always enjoy your honest observations and am happy to see the return of the Ugly Crying Scale!

I was totally with you on Jacinto's smackdown of Jairo and Lucio. I just don't understand why Lucio was in on the harassing. What's his allegiance to Jairo?

Doris, "Too bad we didn't have Gabi with her whip". Absolutely.

Connie, you noted Damien: "... doesn't seem to have much of a personality in this show. Maybe it is just me." No, I've felt the same thing.

Silverfox, you raised some good questions about Barbara's continuing allegiance to Artemio.
Agree with you that "I don't think Obregon is giving in to Ed so easily and Martina can't keep her eyes open 24hours a day." Although as Carlos noted: "Sadly, she's probably now the most competent member of the staff at the nut house" :)

Dorado Dave: I also hope Ed finds a way to get Martina's father a message that she's safe.

Excellent recap and comments. This show give a lot to talk about, doesn't it? Diana in MA

Thanks for the recap
Ferro. Not that it's the most noteworthy characteristic of this TN, but have you all noticed that in contrast to FELS, MEPS is a sombrero free zone? And horses are not really used for transportation-just entertainment.
Abuelo P

When Fr/Ed was throwing the doctor around, it appeared that Fernando was REALLY throwing that actor around...for really real. Frick and Frack reminded me of Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee from Fuego. I, too, love Martina...a strong, earthy sort. You go girl. Maybe Fr/Ed should wind up with her. Wouldn't that be a telenovela twist.

I'm not sure of the connection between Jairo and Lucio, but didn't Martina beat up Lucio outside the cantina a while back? I can't remember why Lucio was there though or what/who he was looking for.

Thanks for the recap Chris. It's good to have you back. I hope all is well with the family and congrats on your weight loss.

Yes more smackdown especially for poor put upon Jacinto. I was so happy to see him not have to be the victim or play nice. I can't wait to see if he gets set loose on Camil-ho.

ITA with Diana and think Dr. O may try to complicate things for Ed but if Martina can get Adolfina and Frick and Frack (good call on those names) to join her perhaps they'll run the manicomio.

Yes Carlos Martina is not a nurse but as you noted Lil will be cared for better by her than crazy Dr. O. His credentials have been questionable since we first met him.

Doris - I loved your "24" reference especially b/c of the smackdowning that happened last night. Lucio and Jairo are in trouble and I can't wait to see them get beat down again.

Yes Julie, he was looking for Jacinto when he got the Martina smack-down! Maybe he just wants to pay her back.

Silverfox - I like your take on Barb and why she is staying around. It makes perfect sense especially b/c she should be gone.

Julie - thanks for reminding me about Lucio and Jairo at the wrestling hut. I think their connection may be loose but convenient so we can pull against both of them. And its further proof (not that we need it) that Lucio is a louse.

Artemio know that Babs killed one or both of her parents & I think he is holding that over her.

I remember Gardenia writing down a phone # after Babs called Artemio. That might come into play pretty soon.

Dr O is such a cobarde, he won't mess with Fr/Ed or Martina. Babs is threatening too, but at least she doesn't visit casa loca & he can lie to her.

I was hoping Jacinto would do some real damage to Jairo & Lucio. Ama su mujer mucho.

Damian giving Lil that imbecilic wave was very funny. I think he is a terrific actor.

I seem to remember or assumed that Martina started nurses training but had to quit to take care of dad.

Love the phrase explanations. I'll listen to something 10 times & still not understand what they are saying.
I listened to Lil say to Fer in front of the Doc several times on you-tube, but couldn't get the whole thing until I read the captions "no pueda sino porque no quiero". She didn't say something not because she couldn't but because she didn't want to. I just couldn't understand the sino part, although I knew what she meant.

Thanks, Ferro, for an excellent recap. I always enjoy your writing style.

This is a fun show, with lots of strong female characters. Liliana was very clever to pretend to be crazier than she is.

Gardenia is one of those characters that could somehow get allied with the bad guys, since she doesn't really know what's going on. She could use a love interest, but who's available?

Hombre, nobody really for Gardenia unless they introduce a new character. How about Esteve?!

I would like to see Lili end up with somebody nice with lots of money.

Great recap Ferro. I wanted Eddie to kick that doctor's butt so bad for drugging Lil. For some reason I always think of Norman Bates when I look at the doctor. There's a bit of slight resemblance. I hope Lil doesn't end up like she was before in a incoherent state because Eddie still needs her to find out the rest of the mystery. With Martina being Lil's personal bodyguard the doc better not try to drug her again or he'll get the smackdown. I was glad to see Jacinto come to his wife's defense and punch that grin off of Lucio's face. So it looks as though Nanda and Eddie will finally talk face to face or is this just another part of his vengeance plan.

Ferro, you are hilarious. It is nice to read that you guys are enjoying the costuming. I notice the excellent designer creations or occasionally whisper to the screen 'cover yourself young lady'.

About Damian slamming the car door and bumping Fern into the car seat! I think Fern and even Franco SAW THAT!

Yes I'm the Chris in the photo, with my lovely wife. That picture was from a few years ago, it's our engagement picture. I don't know if I'll get exactly that thin again, now that I have real meals in my house (not like bachelor meals), but I'm aiming for something close. I'm not that far off.

Great call about Gardenia getting a phone number down from Barb's phone - I totally forgot that. That will have to come up at some point.

Dorado Dave - I feel the responsibility of all male viewers to acknowledge the hot ladies in these shows. When I first started recapping, there were no men here on this site at all. That's why I have my wife in my picture. "Hi I'm Chris and I watch novelas." Now my masculinity is not in question with all the other guys around. Thanks for being here, and for sharing my enjoyment of the novela ladies so I don't have to feel like a perv.

And Chris, your wife is beautiful!

I think Gardenia could addition to team Fr/Ed. She may learn to keep her mouth shut yet. The bigger danger I see is jealousy. If she was already crazy for Fr/Ed and he comes back still chasing after Nanda, then Gardenia could be a problem. There really isn't anyone for her unless they bring in someone new. But please not Esteve!

This is a different role for Sergio Sendel. I got a kick out of that weird little wave he gave to Lili..like she was a child. He's kind of clueless and just seems to be Barbie's love puppet and henchman. I wonder who Fr/eD called and how he plans to deal with Nanda [who really wants to track Eduardo down]. Will Fr/ed discover that Barbie is destroying the company ???? Is the milk really spoiled ?? What will Ciro's greedy wife do with that birth certificate with Artemio's name on it? Was it his birth certificate or was he listed as the father of someone ? Have we decided that the photo that Artemio looked at was Soledad as a young chick ??

We've wondered how Freduardo will function, with all those dependents he's rescuing. I've been thinking about the long term. Every one (except Gardenia) has proven him/herself loyal and competent. Because Ed rescued them, they are even more loyal.

This is a novela. In the end, we know Ed will have a big estate, a wife, and probably at least one baby. At that point he will need:
A. A savy business manager (Ciro).
B. An honest, hard-working ranch manager (Jacinto).
C. Someone to run the household (Martina).
D. A nanny for the babies (Gardenia).

He'll be set for life, with a crew who is so loyal and honest. And what about Lil? After her brain fully recovers, she'll be smart as a whip. Her sister will make sure she gets a good education and career.

In addition, the assylum will need a new director: Adolfina.

Who seduce who Susanlynn? Fern is ALREADY talking to herself about ehtics and BFs. Fern needs a fingersnap from her alter-ego.

Maybe Franco will have a beer at the mud wrastler cantena and pay for that popsicle investment Jairo made. What a pimp.

I wondered about that shoe phrase. Thank you Silverfox. Maybe it relates to the phrase hang up his shoes he won't be needing them again. Clear as water and clear as day are very familiar from my background, southern U.S. family roots.

I would have skinned Lucio and Jairo alive with that riding crop. there is no wayI would let them get away with roughing up and harrassing my wife, Thrashing and violating my home. I would have made sure those two would spend major time in el hospital.

That Dr. Obregon is indeed gay or very effeminate. What a maricon. Just telling it like it is... Nothing against them. Guys do not act like him. i had him pegged from the first time I saw him.

I would have knocked him out if I was Ed/Fr. that injection was the last straw. Roughing him and thrashing him about the clinic is not enough, though i loved seeing that doc helpless. shoot I would have sicked the lovely amazon Martina against him.

I concur with Chris and all the other guys. I love Gardenia's outfit and Martina's too. She is pretty tall. Almost as tall as Eduardo, so I would put her at 5'10"-5'11". I love strong and tall women. :)

I may be wrong about this, but I think i let some of the other guys here come out of their shell during our fuego commenting days. I just had to counterbalance the women gushing over the guys, so I had to express my thought of how lovely and sexy the women were. I also pruposely try to tone down my posts. I can be overly aggressive if I don't. I'm aggresive in real life. But still a nice guy. :)

Ibarramedia

I'm glad Martina can now tell her father she is doing nursing, just not at the hospital. I had NO pity for the father. He's not even concerned about WHERE IS MY CHILD. And why on earth would you be so ready to toss away that child that was so loving and good all her life? He feels shame for his image but not worry about where she slept last night? Cry on Gipetto but close the door.

Paula, I would have Martina and Gardenia switch duties. I think Gardenia is better suited for running the household while Martina can be the nanny. Just my call seeing as seeing it is close to what they do now....

I was thinking the exact same thing about Martina and Gardenia switching places.

As for the ultimate turn-out... how about this...

Ed and Fern marry, move to the US and becomes the president of Power Milk.

Lily runs the Elizalde milk farms and ranch.

Jacinto is the foreman and . Anibal and Damian are gone. Gonzo retires a lonely old man. Santiago moves to Venice and becomes a world-famous artist.

Now... what happens to Errika under this scenario??

I'm also concerned that three of our main gals don't have guys yet - Errika, Gardenia, Lily. There is only one new guy I see on the horizon - Priscilla's brother. Unless they bring in new guys. If Priscilla's brother is available, he could be a match for Errika or Lily.

I agree that Martina's protective nature would make her a better nana , and Gardenia would probably love to manage Fr/Ed's household and order the staff around.

Whoops...sorry...I didn't mean to shout.

I still think the doctor should be injected with his own poison...Whoops how did that happen! And can guarantee you that if I'd been working on fixing food all day and some bozo came in and threw it all on the floor there would be Hell to pay. She should have hit him with a rolling pin, a cast iron skillet, or a freakin' chair.

Really enjoyed your recap, Ferro. Barb does not know Gonzo has a heart condition and stress seems to be a trigger for chest pains. I wonder if she knew she would purposely give him the big one or would she wait till her evil plans are completed whenever that may be/ She probably has to wait til the completion or she would have whacked Gonzo somehow, poison or accident, by now.

I love all of the eyerolling, moustache twitching and sighs and snorts of disapproval that Damian displays and we know he will lose it bigtime before the end of the show. He is already pushing Fer into the car. I love Sergio, he is funnt, though he is somewhat subdued so far.GinCA

I tried to find a good phone smashing episode from Destilando this morning to post for those who have never witnessed the spectacle. I couldn't find one. Maybe someone else has a link to share. He is more subtle in this show. Just wait--

I am also enjoying the slow burn Damian is showing. Sendel always plays sleazy guys but man he's so good at the subtlety.

But Gardenia is such a BIMBO!

I can imagine a sweet bimbo taking care of babies. But managing a full household staff, the household spending accounts, planning fancy social events like the baby's baptismal party... I don't think Gardenia has what it takes.

Thanks Ferro, I always enjoy the recaps from a male perspective. Liked the '24' comparison. I watched every episode for years, until it jumped the shark.

Agree to switch jobs for Martina and Gardenia. Gardenia is too immature to be dealing with children.

Lucio is such a parasite looser, he's got it coming...
jb

Anyone who attacks someone smaller and weaker than they are is a bully and a coward. I hope he gets his soon. Maybe go up in flaming glory in a car-b-que.

JB, what's "junped the shark"?

Gardenia run the household? Ayyy, no! She is too nosy, jumps to too many wrong conclusions,. . .or, is that what you guys like, the jumping?

Bonney, I sometimes also want to tell these young ladies to cover themselves. Unfortunately for the guys, these young ladies have all the how to run, sit, faint, fight and frolic without showing your fannie while wearing a belt for a skirt moves down to a science!

I'm glad you guys are here, too, I told my husband about there being several very active and interested viewer/recapper/blogger-dudes. The balance is great!

Khalilah

Hee....hee....car- be -que...terrible fate except for D A's Frankie and maybe Lucio or Babs unless they repent and what are those chances. GinCA

All I can say to the 'cover up ladies' talk is - no cleavage and tight skirts/pants, no FC in a towel. It's only fair.

Bonney, Jump the Shark is when a tv shows goes past great to dumb, crazy, beyond salvage by beanie, just plain bad. Here's a link: http://www.tvguide.com/jumptheshark

Don't know how to embed links, sorry!

Khalilah

Paula,I mean no disrespect, but believe me, Gardenia has what it takes.

Carlos

Did you mean take away FC or just his towel?

I vote for the towel! ;P

Ferro, You rock! Thanks for the dry eyed "blogger-dude" attitude you always project in your perceptive recaps.

I love Gardenia, I love her low cut sundress which show her mammary assets to a fairtheewell but she is way too silly and immature to run anything. She needs a prominent position out front (so to speak) as greeter or social director, I love her enthusiasm but not when she loses her good sense all the time.

Martina is the best whoopass I have seen in a long time. I love that the actress has gotten a role as gutzy and smart and is not like the sneaky, devious schemer she was in Destilando.

Sendel is doing this subtle role so well. His eyes spark and his voice is beginning to betray his annoyance but his sincerity is just enough to keep Barbara off the scent of Lili's real power surges.

Okay, no FC in a towel, just let him jump right out of the shower! THANK YOU!

I winced when Damian gave that little wave to Lil. I've given the same feeble, I wish I were somewhere else wave myself.

Carlos

Bonney, you're so bad!
Don't! Stop! Don't stop!

silverfox Clear as water is a common phrase. I have used it all my life and I am from Pennsylvania. We also say clear as mud, when someone explains something that is not clear at all.
Ret

Bonney - take just the towel!
Jump the shark:

A metaphor that identifies the exact moment a TV show has reached its creative peak. Or to put it bluntly, it’s the beginning of the end of a once great show. The moment in which it becomes clear the writers are out of good ideas and the show has begun its decent downhill. It’s usually some ridiculous stunt, story line, major character change, or huge fundamental shift in the premise of the show that is viewed as nothing more than a desperate attempt to raise viewership and declining ratings. The phrase refers to an episode of the popular 1970’s sitcom Happy Days, in which one of the main characters is water skiing (while wearing his trademark leather motorcycle jacket mind you), and literally jumps over a shark.
Just the towel...
jb

silver fox. I love that commercial also. I feel embarrassed for the woman though ROTF, sniffing the sheet that he uses as a diaper ROTF

Hi gang! Muchismas gracias to the recappers and LOVE catching up on all of the commenters. You guys are too funny! OK, here's my once-a-week jump in the pool...

I call Lucio "Lewdio." He's such a creep & needs a major ass whooping. I have a feeling he may get it from Babs.

Gardenia has really blossomed since she got out of her maid uniform (I'd kill to have perky assets like hers) but no way can she take care of kids or vacuums. Maybe the front desk at the new milk company (ha! slogan: Our jugs are filled with nothing but the best)

I love the female characters. What a switch from the whiners on FELS. Martina, Margarita (after her PMS episode), Aurora, Nanda, Gardenia, Aldofina...they're all strong in their own way and not overly annoying. Babs is one heckuva ball buster so can't even criticize her. Lots of beauty for our male viewers!

Fr/Ed is a very handy guy to have around the house. He can fix just about any problem, rides a horse like a pro, lights up a room with his smile, and wears a towel with panache.

Love the uptick from FELS! I was going round the bend with that one & MEPS is so much better. Beanie tune ups are only needed every now & again!

Maggarita
:-)

I was just thinking. In light of the recent events with pirates, maybe I should change my name to something else.

Thanks for the great recap Ferro. Yes, left wanting more for sure. Jacinto is just too nice of a guy. He just wasn't going to hit anyone, but Lucio pushed him just a little too much. Good for Lucio. ;-)
I was sure glad Ed and Martina went back into the asylum to get Lili again. It didn't take long for the Dr to test out Fr/Ed running of the place. I just hope that Adophina, Frick and Frack help out Martina a bit. She has to sleep sometime and I don't know if I'd take any food given to me there. May be drugged up. Agreed, Martina is not a nurse, but I don't think she will be doing much nursing here anyway. :-)
I think Lili still has a ways to go before she is all well. The mention of Ciro and leaving and she flipped out.
Gardenia may not be a Rosario, but then who is? For those doubting Gardenia running the place, she was doing quite a bit at the Elizaldes before being let go. I think she would do a good job when she is not eavedropping. I can't see her turning to the dark side as she hates all of them just a little too much. As mentioned, she does have that phone number and information so the sooner Fr/Ed lets her in on everything, the sooner some things will become clearer. Oh, wait... Then this TN would end and it's just started. :-)
I thought Damian did a good job at the asylum, the little wave, the laugh at La Hiena. He got a kick out of that one. It's good that Lili talked like she had went off the deep end. If it had ended as it was on Friday, Damian would have reported she was doing just a little too good. Fortunately, she did start doing some crazy talk, so that is only what Damian reported to Barbi, so that was good.
Oh, interesting, hadn't seen the commercial before. But when watching Tontas, there was an Olay commercial and lo and behold, it was our Barbi. She did not have all of that MEPS makeup and looked pretty good.
And agree with everyone, "24" like episodes. These days are long and it is like, when are they going to change clothes? Still the same day, same clothes.
Yep, looking like to many available women and not enough men. I'm sure some of us could come up with suggestions for them. :-)
JeffMN

Funny I was just discussing the pirates with someone at work. Pirates should not be in small boats taking hostages. I wish they would call the Somalia pirates something else. Priates should always be Johnny Depp, Errol Flynn, Tyrone Powers and of course FC. I like your name and I figure that is the kind of priate you were going with!

Maggarita: "Lewdio", that's a good one. I like that. Fits him quite well. Since people were pointing out he was a loser, I was coming up with Loserio, but that doesn't come off very well. Lewdio fits him.
JeffMN

Cheryl~~~I remember Martina in Duelo de Pasiones [she was the psychiatrist who fell in love with Don Loco] , but I can't remember her in Destilando. What character did she play in that one. I love her in this novela. She's a tough and sexy..WonderWoman. She reminds me of my high school friend Mary Jane who was pretty and sexy but a terror. The guys all panted after her, but she could rerally take care of herself. I always had her spot me in gym when I vaulted the horse because I knew that she would catch me if I got in trouble. Martina is a valuable addition to Team Fr/Ed.

Jeff~~~We are on the same page...I think of Lucio as ''Loserio'' too...or maybe Lucifer. Lewdio works , too.

Everytime Lucio is on screen I think of Jerry Lewis but in a paralelle universe where he is completely gross and unkind!

You're right Molly. Pirate Babe was in reference to Sexy Ric from Pasion. That does it. I'm keeping the name LOL.

Susanlynn, Martina was SanJuana in DA. She worked as a maid or whatever at Rodrigo's hacienda. She had the hots for Hilario (Roman (Silvestre's) son). She got pregnant by him and followed/stalked him to DF where he became a male model.
Didn't think of the relationships until now. Now she is the daughter of the actor who was the father of the guy she was after in DA.
Besides Loserio, also thought Losero, but that seemed to close to Lucero. :-)
JeffMN

At what point do you think FELS jumped the shark, maybe episode 2.
I had never heard that expression.

Certainly by the time they got in the jungle!

Yes, you will always here it on shows discussing TV and when long running series finally ran out of anything to write about. Fonzie jumping the shark was beyond stupid!

Thanks, Jeff~~~How could I have forgotten the unforgettable SanWannawannawanna. This actress has played some interesting characters....a hot psychiatrist in love with her crazy patient...a hot servant randy for the stableboy...and now a hot mudwrestling faux nurse/bodyguard. We've got to get a guy for this girl. She deserves a happy ending this time, but he's got to be a manly man who can handle a whole lot of woman....and Fr/Ed is already spoken for...that leaves Esteve.

"Jumping the shark is a colloquialism coined by Jon Hein and used by TV critics and fans to denote that point in a TV show or movie series' history where the plot veers off into absurd story lines or out-of-the-ordinary characterizations, "
Isn't that normal TN fare, "absurd story lines or out-of-the-ordinary character..."? Oh, I'm just kidding!! Really. :-)
Agree with Molly, the jungle for sure.
JeffMN

I always felt that FELS was the ghost of a telenovela that had been eaten by sharks. Like shark poop.

(I know that doesn't make any sense.)

I think the shoe phrase, something about finding the width of your shoe - like finding someone who can fill your shoes? Well, it does say "meet one's match" - so I figure either filling one's shoes or being the other in a pair of shoes.

As for future jobs:

Ciro is a scientist, so I don't really see him as a potential business manager. However, a milk company probably needs a head scientist/researcher.

I would also recommend Martina to be the house bouncer. Granted, most houses don't need a bouncer, so maybe Ed should open a bar. A milk bar, maybe!

We don't have to pair the single women off just yet. Surely there will be new men joining the story eventually! And I will take Esteve if no one else wants him (but only after I'm 100% sure Eduardo doesn't want me).

During Destilando Amor I remember desperately searching YouTube in hopes that someone had created a phone-smashing montage, but I didn't find anything. :(

Susanlynn, how soon we forget. I think we can set Martina up with the good Dr. Guapo. I think he may show up soon and lie to papa for her and say she really is a nurse.
Julie: Agreed, Ciro for scientist. I'm sure he'll find a good way to use milk for explosive purposes. And probably Martina as head of security.
JeffMN

Jumping the Shark for FELS was definitely the jungle, I'm sure some of you guys can think of an earlier point. In La Fea (sorta my first novela) it was big time ALDO -- argh! -- that was so maddening!

Khalilah

I'm sure that Martina will manage to play her new role as 'sexy nurse' in the manicomio in some way to satisfy her father so he'll quit being such a weirdo.

Ferro, thanks for the terrific recap.

Maggarita, I loved your comment about Gardenia, too funny!

rsk

I always felt that FELS was the ghost of a telenovela that had been eaten by sharks. Like shark poop.

(I know that doesn't make any sense.)

Julie,
Makes a hell of a lot more sense than FELS.

What about Vlad the Impaler as a potential novio? We all know that Preggers Priscilla is done with him & he did nothing wrong other than donate a few swimmers to the cause. Maybe he can hook up with Erika (forgot about her in my list of hot heroines!).

I don't see Frick & Frack as date-ables. Not after the hunting outfits they wore when they were looking for Lil.

Maggarita

The thing with FELS is it is a much darker show with a lot of symbolism and slightly supernatural phenomena. The unexplained. The passage of time is marked by days and the fast forward motion.

Meps is a much lighter show. Not a lot of violence despite the scene at Margarita's house. The passage of time is a little bit slower because they are currently dealing with a lot of here and now situations that cannot be covered in one hour. I suspect when the current action ends they may say Dias despues, semana despues or mes despues to fast forward things.

Agreed with the definition of jump the shark. You guys beat me to it since I just logged in again. Not all telelnovelas have to have people dying in the end. There can be ways to resolve situations withouth death. FELS is just different. I mean there were serial killings and wanton acts of violence. Almost all ending might end up in a wedding.

Damian is a pansy. Fernando Escandon was the devil incarnate.
At least Padre Bosco is more respectable than Padre Tadeo from Fels was.

Connie and Molly, I can almost see you two be like Martina if you were cast in this novela. ;) Tough and spunky.

Ibarramedia

Jeff```WOW...I am just not paying attention. First, I forget about San Wanna in hot pursuit of Hilario , and then , I completely forget Dr. Guaypo. I'm glad that we don't have to take a pop quiz on this novela. I guess my own real-life novela has been distracting me and affecting my powers of concentration....or maybe it's Freduardo who is distracting me. I will try to stay more focused. Maybe I'll start taking notes.

Chris, thanks for that succinct yet comprehensive recap. I was distracted during the house-trashing scene at Margarita's. I kept looking at the table, adding up all the hours of work those tamales represented, and shouting at the tv, "nooooo, not the tamales!! Leave the tamales alone!"
Martina's new bodyguard job is perfect for her. She gets to wear and nurse's uniform AND kick ass.
Love, love, love it. I hope she gets a few opportunities to do more than just threaten the Dr.
Connie, I agree that Sergio is not in full form as Damian. Maybe that leash is too tight right now. He'll have to break free from Barbie at least a little bit. Neither do I care for Gepetto, here or in Destilando Amor. He's not a sympathetic father.
La Paloma

Susanlynn, Martina is Mariana Rios, who played Sanjuana in Destilando Amor and chased Hilario, our hunk favorite, Jose Luis Resendez, aka Andres who sacrificed himself for Hipolita (Lucero) of Alborada, but I digress, we were talking about Martina.

Oh and that reminds me Gepetto was Hilario's father and the ranch foreman in Destilando Amor. He didn't want Sanjuana at first but then shamed his son to take care of her when she was carrying his grandchild.

Khalilah, I totally agree. LFMB jumped the shark with Aldo. Specifically, #252 when they returned from the resort and should've been in Ultimos Dias. Instead Lety broke the engagement. IMHO the extensions before that point were actually improvements (Hippy Ed, 35 caps of Happy Together, and Fern tranforming in NY). But to extend a show 50 caps after the climax just doesn't work.

Variopinta, I'm with you, Julie is right about shark poop!

Ibarra...noooo...you may be right, but then I don't get FC! Waaaaaa

Jeff...too funny...regarding Ciro, the scientist, finding a good way to use milk for explosive purposes. For those of use who are lactose intolerant, milk definitely has very very bad explosive properties. Sorry to be gross but his comment was so funny.

Maggarita...LOL....yes... I remember Frick and Frack in those laughable hunting outfits but even without those outfits they don't seem too bright and not a good catch for anyone we know. GinCA

FELS has some parts of it that were questionable. It's not a matter of when it jumped the shark, but rather what segmentsin between. you could make the argument that it jumped the shark when Quintina was introduced or when th e2 spinster Maria sister's were hanging out with Quintina. Still some say the jungle las barrancas was a turning point.

Still other will say that it jumped the shark when the girls went back home after living at the panaderia.

In my not too humble opinion, get the Fuego En La Sangre and you will see a different side to it. No basura. And I FELS is a niche series, I might add.

I've talked too much about Babs and Gardenia, Martina too for that matter. We need to see more of Venus. She's another hot one. Seh could also pass for a tougher cousin of Rosario Montez from Fuego. Same skin color shade, a little taller, and they look alike.

Ibarramedia

Ibarramedia, so the dvd of Fuego is better than the original TV version because all the extraneous scenes were cut. Makes me almost want to see it again. GinCA

That is correct. The jungle Las barrancas never happened. That is at least 30-35 epsodes cut out. Minimized if not eliminated some hospital scenes. No Bulls*** Quyintina scenes. In fact, you probably only see her and Maria Esperanza, Maria Caridad in the wedding at the end. It really was better, thoug I wished Dra. Leonora 'hotlips' Castaneda made a token appearance. The only downside if it is considered one is no English subtitles. My advice, get the dvd folks who were loyal FELS viewers...

Ibarramedia

Appreciate your description of FELS Ibarramedia. Have you also seen a DVD of Pasion? If so, is it any good? Thanks.

Khalilah

Thanks Ferro for the great recap, I always like your style.

I can't read till late, so I'm not commenting much but love reading all-y'all's comments. This is a fun one.

Let's pray to the televisa gods that this one does not go into a horrible extension!

After Eduardo and Martina kicked ass in the manicomio last night I had great idea for a spin off series: Martina and Eduardo as a crime figthing duo!

They could be the Avengers! Martina would make a great Emma Peel, and Eduardo a really luscious John Steed.

Emma Peel sighting. I knew it had to be you, Tootz!

I couldn't help it. If someone says "crime-fighting duo" I always think either Batman and Robin, the Avengers, or ElectraWoman and DynaGirl.

How sad is it that EW & DG is still the first female crimefighting duo that pops into my head?
