MEPS 05/15/09: Eddie and Fer Make a Date While Denia Gets Ready to Meet Her Maker

Capítulo 64

First a bit of repetitious review:

Prissy, who quite obviously has married beneath her intellectual station in life, threatens Anibal. He’s got to hire the accountant she chooses (and we all know who that will be) or she’ll pay a visit to Franco Santoro and tell him the guy he wants to do business with steals money from his own wife; Babs, once again up to her old tricks, plays the victimized and long suffering wife for gullible Gonzo, who seems to be aging with each episodio; and Rene Manzanares walks into the room where Gardenia's being kept prisoner to find Denia in dire straits because the lecherous Lucio is liquored-up and in full lust and thrust mode.

Manzanares, who apparently has his limits and his principles, gets angry and tells Lucio to back off Denia. Lucio tells him to get lost. When Rene tries to untie Denia, Lucio attacks him. The P.I. pulls a gun and the two fight for it. Suddenly there is a shot and Viewerville waits an ever lovin’ eternity before one of them finally hits the floor. As it turns out, it’s Lucio’s lucky night. Rene hits the floor with an artful, if overly anticipated, thud and breathes his last.

Over at Las Animas, Estev, aka Dewey, and Eduardo have just returned from Barrera’s office. Eddie cannot believe that $170 million dollars has just fallen out of the blue and into his lap like this. There’s got to have been a mistake, he says, because it’s unbelievable that he should have received a fortune like that from a man he practically met on his death bed. The old guy had to be delirious to do such a crazy thing. Dewey tells him Ciro must have had his reasons, but Ed says no. “To be perfectly honest, the money really belongs to Lili Elizalde.”

At that very moment, the ghost of Ciro appears to Lili in her room at the asylum and tells her “the white king now has the weapons he needs to fight with.”

Eddie now tells Estev that Ciro risked his life to save Lili, and that that is the best proof he was committed to saving her. He says it was a serious mistake to have accepted something that didn’t belong to him. (So, what’s so ignoble about taking half, I ask? Or maybe just a “finder’s fee”?) Eddie starts to call Barrera to give the money back but Dewey tells him to hold off. “Perhaps Ciro left you his fortune in order to help Lili. What was it exactly that he said to you when he handed you the white king?” Ed thinks back and remembers Ciro telling him that inside the head of the king was the weapon for battle and then ordering him to do everything possible to free Lili. Eddie, our prince of a virtual pauper, stands on principle. “That doesn’t give me the right to touch a dime of his fortune!” (Where’s a good two by four when you need one?)

Back at his cottage, Lucio still looks like he just sh!t his shorts. Denia makes her move towards the door to escape. Unfortunately, Jairo reappears and pushes her back onto the bed. He looks down at the floor and sees that Manzanares has assumed room temperature. Jairo is horrified and looks immediately over at Lucio. “What did you do, you humongous idiot??? You just sent a government agent to the hereafter!!!” Lucio whines back. “What did you want me to do? Let the guy kill me?” “—This guy wasn’t just anybody! [cualquier cristiano] He was police!” Lucio yells back don’t blame him cuz it was Jario who had the brainy idea to do business with the guy. Jairo says, yeah, it’s one thing to do business with the guy, but it’s quite another to do him in!

Lucio frets and says they’ve got to get the body out of there. Jario reminds him not to do it in the light of day or there’ll be witnesses. Lucio says then they’ll have to get rid of Gardenia, too. Denia is listening at the door. She knows she’s about to be toast and she starts praying for a miracle.

Across the way Jacinto is a busy little bee. He’s fixing things around the house. Margarita wonders what’s up. He says that he’s had his belly full of Cadmilo Elizalde [llenar el buche de piedritos= literally “filling the belly with little stones"]. He’s not going to go back to work for the Elizalde’s. The next day he’s going into town to look for work somewhere else. Margo looks worried.

Over at the hacienda, meanwhile, Cad is in the stables yelling for Jacinto but can’t find him. He orders one of the other stablemen, in his endearingly affable way, to go over to Cinto’s house to fetch him.

Jairo warns Lucio not to involve him in this mess—his mess-- and to never set foot in his bar again or he’ll run straight to the police and let the fecal matter fly. “The best thing for you is to convince Gardenia to follow you and the two of you get away from here, very far away,” he says and walks out the door. Meanwhile, Denia is frantically searching Rene’s pockets, albeit with her hands still tied behind her back, for keys on Rene's body. She only finds some cash and a passport. She throws the passport on the floor in frustration. “The keys! He’s got to have keys on him!”

Jacinto tells the worker from the stables to tell Cad he doesn’t work for him anymore and he’s not coming. Margo is worried that he’s just gotten them into another jam. Cinto says no, he’s actually keeping them out of one because the next time he finds himself in front of Cadmilo Elizalde, the guy is going to know he’s met his match [encontrarse con la horma de su zapato].

Jairo goes back to Rene’s hotel room and furiously starts packing up his things to get rid of any trace of the supposed federale.

Back at Las Animas, Eduardo remarks that it’s strange that Denia hasn’t returned yet. He’s put together something to eat [moyete=an open-faced sandwich that soldiers in the field eat] since she wasn’t there to cook for them. Estev returns to the topic at hand. He tries explaining to Ed that if he doesn't accept Ciro's money then he can’t possibly follow through with either the $3 million advance for Grupo Lactos or Barbara Greco's $1.5 million commission. (No duh! Seems Eduardo has fallen victim to Telenovela Alpha-male Malady: a skillful, dazzling, inspired, super-stud suddenly turning dense as a doorknob and seeing any good fortune as misfortune, particularly as it pertains to his receiving a fortune.) “So what am I supposed to do with it?” Dewey suggests that for starters he should throw a huge party. Just then there’s a knock at the door. Fr/Ed goes to answer it and sees that it’s Fernanda standing in the doorway and smiling at him. He melts instantly and the sparkle in his eyes matches hers.

Meanwhile, Lucio gets ready to bury Manzanares and threatens Denia with killing her afterwards. Denia starts praying for deliverance.

Fer apologizes for showing up unexpectedly like this. Fr/Ed has a smile a mile wide on his kisser and says he told her that it’s no problem; he’s told her to feel at home there and he loves seeing her (more like feasting his eyes on her cuz he’s just devoured her whole). She gets a bit flustered and tells him she’d rather continue to think of Las Animas as the home of her family’s business associate, then quickly explains that the reason she came was to tell Fr/Ed that now they are getting the drafts of the new community center drawn up with the architect so she wants to take him there for a look-see. (Ri-i-i-ight. She didn’t have to come over in person to do that. They’ve got phones in this novela, a point not lost on Eddie.) It will be built in the old warehouse, she says, the place the kids used as their secret hideout, a really beautiful building and one of her favorite places. He’s secretly impressed that she remembers “their place” that way.

Of course, Fr/Ed just stands there drooling with that sexy boyish grin on his face. He can’t get enough of her. He walks around his desk and leans over her shoulder. “Terrific! I’m free then. When do you want us to go?” This move isn’t lost on her, either, and she shifts a respectable few inches backward as she turns to look at him. The size and intensity of her smile now equals his. “Tomorrow morning? --I think the sooner the better. So, is early tomorrow morning all right?” “—Yes! I’ll go. Do I stop by for you at the hacienda?” The subliminals between these two are flying non-stop now. “—No! No. I prefer to come get you.” It’s a date! They’re in full flirt mode but don’t quite realize it yet. They continue staring at each other till suddenly Fer does realize it and she says a bit awkwardly that she’s got to go. Fr/Ed offers to walk her out.

While Fer and Fr/Eddie flirt with each other, Errika listens as her daddy, Augustin, is on the phone with Gonzo telling him that he can count on him for whatever comes up. When Augie hangs up Dolly asks how Gonzo seems to be doing. Augie says “like a train just ran over him.” Dolly says that’s not the least of it because Damian Gallardo has destroyed them socially with the scandal. Err tells her mama not to count Fernanda out because she’s not the kind of female who lets herself get done in by a deceitful man. Dolly says she hopes this new boyfriend of Err’s isn’t going to do something similar to her. Errorika, oblivious to the heap o’ hurt she’s headed for, swears to Mama that Franco has a solid job and an income in “dollars”; and, even if he were a simple farm worker, he would still be her boyfriend. Augie’s ears pick up at the word “dollars”. Dolly misses the remark and laughs at Err. “Ha! You go off with a farm worker and you’d be back at month’s end! Like they say, ‘When poverty comes in the door, love goes out the window.’” Err informs the two of them that Franco is, in fact, going to be Grupo Lactos’ new business associate.

Denia finally manages to get her hands free, meanwhile. She peeks through the cracks in the boarded up window and sees Lucio digging a grave.

Back again at Las Animas, Estev asks Fer to call him by his first name and offers her his friendship, kiss-kiss. He asks Fr/Ed if he’s gotten around to mentioning the party to her yet. Fr/Eduardo explains that he’s giving a big party to get the news out about their new business partnership. “When we were making up the list for the party, the first name Franco wrote down was yours, Fernanda.” He looks over at Ed. “Wasn’t it, Franco?” “--Yes. It was,” he answers as he and she share another flirtatious stare. (No lie there, that’s for darn sure.)

It’s bedtime now at the Elizalde’s and Rory tells Santi that since things have certainly changed in their relationship she is going to be sleeping in a different room. It was just a big game before, she says, but now it’s real and she wants a decent relationship. He smiles and sweetly thanks her for giving him a second chance. The two kiss good-night numerous times till Santi has sense enough to finally leave. FF>>

Estev makes sure to invite both Fernanda and her hubby. Fr/Eddie frowns as Nanda makes her apologies for Damn and says, a bit stiffly, that he won’t be able to attend. Dewey ducks out and Fr/Ed must apologize for “his boss” mentioning her husband like that since Estev doesn’t know about the problem with her husband. Fer says it isn’t important since he’ll have to find out eventually if he’s going into business with her family. Fr/Ed asks her then if she’s heard from her husband yet. She says no, he hasn’t had the guts to call and give her at least some kind of an explanation of things. She abruptly breaks off the conversation and says not to take it badly, but she’d rather not continue discussing it. It’s best, she thinks, if she goes her own way and that she and her family manage now the best they can since that’s all in the past. She says good-bye, kisses him on the cheek and leaves. Eduardo is impactadisisisimo! He touches his cheek and moves that kiss to his lips. He smiles and sighs (along with the rest of us). “Fernanda!”

At Vlad’s place, Damn tells Vlad that Nanda is his wife in name only because he never had the chance to actually consummate the marriage. “For one reason or another something else always got in the way.” Vlad says he wonders why his story and the Elizalde’s differ about the business with the money. Damn gives Vlad a line about him having had a contract with Barbara Greco to find ways of avoiding paying the tax man. He saved them millions of dollars at Lactos in taxes, just like their professor in accounting school taught them to do, but Barbara played crooked. Instead of paying him his commission, she accuses him of embezzlement. So as long as he doesn't have sufficient proof of his innocence, he says, he must continue to hide out. Suddenly there’s a knock at the door and Damn has got to hide in the bedroom. Vlad opens the door thinking it’s Pris, but it turns out to be Damian’s mother. She starts begging him to tell her where Sonny is.

At the hacienda, the Barbinator is now on the phone in her bedroom with Art the Courageous (a misnomer if ever there was one, come to think of it, especially for a rich guy who hides in the dark in his own office all the time). He orders her to scuttle the business negotiation with Powhere Meelk. She manages to put down the phone only seconds before Gonzo walks in so she has to think fast. Gonzo is giddy with relief. He smiles and gives her his great news about Augustin offering him his unconditional support. Babs looks over at him and suddenly starts sobbing. Totally overcome with guilt, Gonzo starts apologizing. Through crocodile tears she says that her love for him hasn’t been sufficient enough for either him or his kids. Yes, she’ll learn to live with it, but (sniff, sniff, sob) it just. hurts. so. much!

Gonzo takes the blame for making her the victim of all his recent mistakes. He implores her to forgive him. Babs says it’s not important, that she can’t blame him for not feeling the way she would like him to feel about her. She sobs again and then says with an uber-melodramatic pause, “ It’s very apparent that you have no confidence in me now. There’s a divide between us it seems, and now with what’s looming….” Gonzo wants to know what she means. Babs answers him: it’s the the business with Franco Santoro and she does not trust the man. The music swells as we break for crass commercialism…..

Once we return, safe in the knowledge that Uni’s bills are paid and that the show that must go on can…..Gonzo wonders why sweet Babs would suddenly “discount the word of Santoro.” Babs purposely makes Gonzo jealous by telling him that she spoke with Santoro privately and subtley stringing him along. He asks if the guy made advances towards her. After a another pregnant pause she says no, nothing like that, but he is dishonest; and she has a feeling that Santoro is going to betray them. “It would be a terrible mistake to sign a contract with him!” Gonzo needs a minute or three, maybe four, to process. (Somebody needs to get the old geezer a Kleenex. I think he’s drooling.)

Ed gets mad at Estev for inviting Fernanda’s spouse to the society ball of the season because he knows perfectly well that the guy is a fugitive from justice. Duckworth says he was sounding her out is all. (Ok. I'll bite.) When Dewey supposedly mentioned her husband her reaction was “annoyance”, he says, meaning that she is not in love with Damian Gallardo at all. “Ah, don’t tell me that you didn’t notice!” Ed stands there frowning at him. “You put her in an uncomfortable position.” Dewey apologizes and promises never again to make the love of Ed’s life feel uncomfortable. Ed is muy impactado to hear the feeling actually put into words. Estev smiles wryly and pats his BFF on the shoulder. “That is what Fernanda Elizalde is, isn’t it?” Eddie doesn’t disagree with the sage Estev.

Back at the cottage, Lucio comes in to get Manzanares’ body. He notices that Denia has gotten loose and he pulls out his gun to threaten her. “Don’t try anything!” The once defiant Denia is not about to. She cowers in the corner as Lucio drags Rene’s body out of the room and locks her in. Denia starts looking around now and notices the passport still lying on the floor where she threw it. At first glance she thinks it’s Don Santoro’s passport, but then she reads the name “Eduardo Juarez Cruz” written in it and suddenly she realizes that Franco Santoro and Eduardo are one in the same. Just then Lucio comes back into the room for her and she manages to hide the passport in the back of her skirt without him noticing. “You’re next!” he tells her. Denia begs him not to hurt her. She swears she’ll obey and won’t open her mouth if he just won’t do anything to her. Lucio drags her outside to the open grave anyway.

Viewerville is left in suspense because we’re suddenly shunted back to Vlad’s apartment as Ursula, now on the couch, is still begging Vlad to tell her where her son is. Vlad tries to evade her questions. He looks down and realizes that Damian’s car keys were left on the coffee table. He tries to cover them over with his hand but it’s too late. Ruh-roh! Ursula has seen them and asks why he’s got Damn’s keys. Vlad’s got to think fast. He searches for an answer…..

It’s mealtime. Margarita tells Jacinto at supper that she feels bad about arguing with Gardenia. She really misses her little sis and wishes she hadn’t read her the riot act over Jairo the way she did.

Poor, unfortunate Denia, however, at that very moment is futilely trying to reason with a barely lucid Lucio for her life. She tells him she’ll make a deal with him and if he unties her she’ll tell him what Rene Manzanares found at Las Animas. He pushes her down on her knees, points the gun and yells at her to spit it out. [¡Desembucha!] “Out with it already!” “—Just one thing, though, Lucio. If I tell you and… it interests you…let me go and then a little later….the rest …okay?” (Methinks she means doin’ the nasty and with him it’s gotta be an ugh-fest.) He shoves the gun threateningly at her again and she is terrified. "I-I-I discovered a secret about Don Santorito!!!” Lucio’s wild eyes go wide and he licks his lips. He hesitates for just a second to consider his next move. Will he or won’t he shoot her? Maybe, just maybe Denia’s bought herself a little time…..

LOL, that Fernanda and that Fr/Ed. They should just rent a room already!!

I couldn't help noticing that in the avances for Monday, he was working out with his shirt off. Now that is must-see TV!

You were in fine form, Jardinera...very witty and well-written from start to finish.

Ay yi yi, all three of the hormones I have left stood up and saluted during those scenes with Fernanda and Eduardo. Those two can really generate some heat just with their eyes. Mercy!...may have to go back and watch again just to er...work on my Spanish.

The one thing that annoyed me about these last couple of episodes is they completed flipped Gardenia's character and made her a weepy, sniveling scaredy-cat. The Gardenia we've come to know would have bopped Lucio again, once she got her hands untied and high-tailed it outta there instead of whining and praying. But I guess the plot requires her having to make a deal with Lucio. Ugh. Did appreciate that she said a Padre Nuestro for Manzaneres...he was a decent guy for a crook and deserved a prayer upon dying.

Thanks for the recap Jardinera. What an action paced episode! Also thanks to Pasofino as well for your Thursday recap.

Everyone had such great speculations for the episode and I hope we continue to guess what will happen on Monday.

Based on the previews, I think Denia will tell Lucifer Lucio about Eddie and he'll tell Babs. But Lucio directly threatening Barbie means his death is not only imminent but might happen at the hands of Babs. This means he'll probably suffer...ha.

Jardinera great recap...too funny...u had me and my husband laughing as i read it out loud...
denia will need to save her life and giving up the info on ed/fr. will be her saving grace...too bad now lucio will have the upper hand...yuck....barbie sure knows how to play that old man seems like she is setting up her exit....No kidding about the finders fee for Ed/Fr...whats a couple of mill?...lili will never know......they are going to have 1 hell of a party....BN in CA.

What a clever and witty recap, Jardinera. Thanks for sharing your talents with us.
I'm amazed at that opportunistic slacker, Lucio. In a short time, he produced a very deep and straight-sided grave. Must have been driven by fear and the resulting adreneline rush.
As someone mentioned the other day, Barb's tears and unrewarded loving effort for the Elizaldes must be building up to a convenient excuse to leave. Una verdadera vibora.

Hola Everyone:

I have been enjoying Caray, Caray since finding Melinama's blog while searching for English translations of Alborada. Although it's taken years to come forward and post a comment, I have been enjoying the recaps and comments since that time.

I discovered Fernando Colunga while channel surfing one day. I thought OMG - who is that gorgeous man? At the time, I did not know anything about telenovelas and my Spanish was extremely poor. But I started watching Alborado to see Luis. I think it's amazing that his physical appearance and talent transcends language and cultures!

For the longest time, I did not know who the characters were or the storyline. I would like to express my appreciation Melinama and all the recappers for the tremendous service that you provide for those of us who are making efforts to learn Spanish in our spare time. You introduced me to a wonderful learning and sharing community.

MEPS is my fifth telenovela (Alborada, La Esclava Isaura(sp), Zorro (can't recall the Sp title, and Pasion). My Sp compreshension has signifantly increased along the way thanks to Caray, Caray and trips to Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic for memorable immersion experiences.

Anyway, I hope that you will forgive the lengthy reflection. I mainly wanted to send a virtual hug to all of you, along with encouragement to the recappers for their efforts.

With much appreciation,

Mariposa Tranquila

Thanks for the recap Jardinera. Is Denia going to sell Ed out to Lucio? I believe she did say 'mi Eduardo' when she figured out who it was. :)

Man, that was quite the grin Ed had when Nanda showed up at the door.

Avances showing Lucio with a gun on Barb... Ruh, roh, bad career and life move buddy. :)

JeffMN

Jardinera: Thanks for the recap. I completely missed this chapter.

I don't think Gardenia will tell Lucio everything about Fr/Ed because that would go against the employee/employer loyalty relationship. No?

I think she'll make something up. Also, if Lucio tries to get rid of Gardenia, he still has Jairo out there to deal with.

Jardinera, once again a wonderful recap, full of wit and wisdom. "Vlad's got to think fast"...Oh yeah. When Esteve was talking to Nanda, Eddie looked really peeved, I thought at first it was jealousy, but I guess he was just annoyed with Esteve. He really just needs to give Esteve free rein. I trust and lke his instincts. I still have confidence in Gardenia, I did waiver a bit. She needs to channel our Connie. I meant to say this the other day. Doesn't Issac Newton exude professionionalism? I'd hire him as my lawyer. Again, I missed you last week Jardinera. Your style certainly hasn't suffered however. Carlos

Great recap Jardinera!!
I couldn't bear to watch what was happing to Gardinia. Thanks to the recap I can go back and finally watch.Does any body trust Aurora? I have my suspicions about her. The chemistry between her and Santi doesn't really make my hormones wake up. You know, not like Ed/FR and Fer. She can't be all that good being Barbarecca's kid and all. I am just saying ...

Fabulous recap, Jardinera. There was so much steam under pressure in the meeting between Fern and Ed, and you captured it deliciously. You served up so much of the unspoken part of the interaction, such as, "They’re in full flirt mode but don’t quite realize it yet." I loved your description of the whole scene.

Oh! So Jairo was packing Rene's things? I missed that. I thought he was packing his own bag and getting out of Dodge, since they killed a Fed. Thank you for clarifying. I was wondering why we didn't see any more white polyester bell bottoms, and leisure suit silk shirts.

Count me on Aurora's team. I think she is just as sweet as she seems. I don't think she can hold her own against Camilo's aggression, but maybe Santiago will finally hitch up his calzones and teach his brother a lesson.

I agree with you Paula, I don't think there is any reason not to trust Aurora... At least not yet. She is Babs child so you would get into the nature vs nurture discussion, but then... I guess her nurturing, via Dominga, hasn't been very good either. When she left the room (handing the purse to Santi) the other day, I thought she might have been leaving because where she comes from, if Dominga starts getting upset like they were getting, the switch comes out and watch out Aurora. :)

At the beginning, I never would have thought that Damian and Vlad would be giving us the comic relief in this show. Who knew! LOL

JeffMN

Thanks for the excellent recap, Jardinera. It was a rather exciting episode. So .... Lucifer ..er..Lucio survived. Blech. I'm impressed that he dug such a large hole in such a short time.

I'm even more impressed by the beautiful, rich, black dirt they have there.

So now Gardenia knows FrEd's true identity. Vaya!

DH watched some of this episode, and still maintains that Babs is the prettiest woman in this telenovela.

DH also says Damian (Sendel) reminds him of Robert Goulet. I think he's got a point.

Jardinera, can't wait to read the recap and brilliant comments but thanking you in advance. It was very hard watching psycho Lucio threaten Gardenia. And looks like she's going to spill the beans on Eduardo to save her life! Somebody probably already said it, but I think the a$$hole is going to kill her anyway. Waaah!

Khalilah

No way would they kill off Gardenia. She's a major part of the show. And now that she knows her boss, Franco, is really her childhood love, Eduardo, there's bound to be all kinds of hijinks ensuing.

I want to second what Mariposa said. I am so grateful to all the bloggers at Caray for your recaps. I watched MEPS for months before I found you, and it was a struggle. Once I did find you, I thought I died and went to heaven. I so love this blog and don't know what I will do when MEPS ends and I can't check out the recaps and comments for it each day.

Doris, about the soil. Central Mexico is bumper-to-bumper with volcanoes, so I'm not surprised by the quality of soil. And your dh is right. Sendel does look like R. Goulet. I'd never noticed.

Aurora? Nature vs. nurture? I'll put her in the column, "Overcomers." I knew one girl whose mother wasn't qualified to raise a goldfish, so the girl had both nature and nurture working against her. The girl saw what a mess her mother's life was, and she was determined be different. She succeeded. Her sibblings are messed up, but this girl is an overcomer, living a normal life. It takes grit, but it happens. Maybe Aurora is one of those.

Gardenia? Death by bullet? I think not. Did you know Teddy Roosevelt caught a bullet just before giving a speech, but the 50-page speech in his breast pocket, and his steel eyeglass case, deflected the bullet and saved his life. Likewise, I think if Lucio shot Gardenia in the chest, it would be deflected.

Jardinera, Thanks for more of your as usual fabulous stuff, amiga.

I am torn between understanding Gardenia's cowardice with a gun stuck up her nose and fearing stupid but dangerous Lucifer with hands all over her who has dug a grave big enough for 3 or 4 people, but disappointed that she would go goo gee MY Eduardo as she gazes at his passport then betray him moments later. I guess some of you think she will not betray him in the end but still.

Loved the flirty scenes with Fernanda and Franco now that Damian the Dud is out of the picture. We haven't seen the last of him messing with Fernanda's life though. He may use her to get to Barbara.

Welcome to Mariposa and the Anon at 6"30PM. It is always great to get new bloggers. We have fun here. And as for worrying what you will do when MEPS ends. I assure you there will be three or four new telenovelas starting at different points this summer and MEPS should go until October. It too will have a new successor that is sure to be interesting.

Love the line "where's the 2 X 4 when you need one." Esteve is becoming indispensable to Mr. Harvard MBA in the thinking department. Cute how Fern says Esteve as well.

If no one comes looking for Rene Manzanares, Lucio could dig himself an Olympic size pool to enjoy next to his house.

Thanks for the funny recap, Jardinera. GinCA

Gin, Lucio's olympic pool...now that's really funny. As I watched him dig I thought to myself,"now there's a man who knowshow to dig a grave, who would have guessed?" Doris,I too lusted after that soil. Let's just hope that Manzanares is the only one to enrich it. PARTEEE! Hope it has some of the same energy and elán as the wedding. Someone said that they saw a statute of a lion in Eddie's office. I looked closely and don't see it (not that it matters), but there is a spaniel. Esteve is golden. I loved his character in Amor Real. I really enjoy watching less than gorgeous men flirt with confidence. It gives the rest of us hope. Carlos

IMO, Esteve is the "voice of reason" in this telenovela. Every t'novela has one. I agree with you, Carlos, he needs to be given free rein.

PaulaH - I didn't know Mexican soil is from volcanic ash. That would explain the beautiful black color of it.

Jardinera ~~~ Thanks for that excellent and detailed recap. Some stream-of-consciousness thoughts : 1] Fr/ed and Ferd looked like a couple of puppylovestruck teens, didn't they ? Remember those looks that passed between you and that special 16 year-old someone in Biology class ??? What a thrill. I had Firehouse's ''Love of A Lifetime'' running through my head during those sweet scenes. FC has a way of looking at his leading lady as if he is hopelessly in love with her for really real. Tha face,,,those eyes...that smile. 2] Thanks for clearing up that Jairo was packing up Manz's things. I thought that Jairo was packing to leave Dodge on the next stagecoach, and I thought it was odd that he'd just leave his lucrative [though crass] business behind. It reminded me of Perla's fast packing to get out of town after having Hippolita kidnapped. 3] Like several of you commenters, Iwas amazed at Lucio's mad gravedigging skillz. Who would have expected. That grave was soooo deep and the sides were so straight. Paula~ I think Lucio could have dug that pool you suggested right then and there...he was on a roll and the adrenaline was pumping. 4] I hope that Gardenia escapes from Lucio's clutches and does not spill all the Fr/ed beans. And , what is Lucio thinking holding a gun on Babs??? Que the hell ????

Susanlynn, thanks, biology class, Timothy O' sat right behind me and there were times when our eyes locked and time stood still. Unfortunately she was infatuated with Butler who sat next to me in band. But we did have our moments. I think I'll pour myself a Scotch and water and chase those musarañas for a while. Thanks. Carlos

Gardenia can't die yet. She has to live long enough to watch Eduardo in the weight room with his shirt off.

I hate to think that Gardenia would squawk against her boss, but I don't know what she can plausibly tell Lucio. If he wants proof, all she has is that passport - and the passport tells the whole story.

Maybe Fr/Ed will come by and quash the whole thing.

Now, Aurora - as far as I can tell, she is completely harmless and innocent. She probably couldn't even hurt someone's feelings to save her own life.

Yes she comes from some bad DNA, but maybe her dad was a good guy; and the nun where she went to school seemed very kind and nurturing.

Muchas Gracias Jardinera for another skillful recap. I'm really enjoying these action packed chapters and always appreciate the fine points and details that the recappers pass on. Barbara's fake tears are going to be with us for awhile and I don't mind them at all. I like those scenes that show the interactions between her and her husband as well as those between Damian and Vlad.
CB 03:47, I'm sorry but since the information that you gave us was based on information you gained from looking ahead, it does count as a spoiler. Many times those who look ahead mean well. They think that we are having the same feelings as they are about the pace and the characters and they're merely trying to put us at ease about something they presume is bothering us the same as it is them. Speculations and opinions are fine. But since this is a no spoiler zone, any information gained from looking ahead is a spoiler, even if it's just alerting us that something will be drawn out to what you interpret as a drawn out filler.

Welcome CB! Love having you here and what you say about Barbarecca's mascara laden eyes and that gaudy necklace is soooo on target! --I am going to ask you to forgive me, but since it is a spoiler-free zone and the one tidbit about Eddie is bordering on the edge, rather than delete you outright, I will copy and repost your comments, but edit out the bit about Eddie Boy and the filler stuff and then repost your comment. In future, if you think there's a problem, you can self-edit by doing a copy, delete, edit, and repaste and you just use the trashcan icon on the lower left-hand corner to delete with. I hope that will be satisfactory for you and the others can rest easy, so to speak, again. I'll be happy to give you a possible lead on Canaveral, also. Thanks!

Really good recap Jardinera!

I'm really sick of the croc tears in Barbarecca's mascara laden eyes, and ya basta with the turquoise necklace. It would cost her at least 5 bills in Santa Fe, but she probably had one of her slaves make it for her. A gift from the not-so bravo Artemio perhaps?

Some things are getting really dragged out to the point of ad nauseum. Enough with la vibora messing with Gonzo's head and the estupido idiota falling for it. The scenes with Dam and Vlad are getting old too.

Also, You Tube has taken down the next few chapters. I was having such fun peeking ahead, getting the crude meaning, then watching the real thing on Univision for review and confirmation of my You Tube interpretations.

Does anyone know if Televisa makes old novelas available for purchase on DVD? I'd kill for a copy of the 1996 Caneveral de Pasiones.

Just for the record, I want to know what happened to the HORSE?? There was so much emphasis put on the horse at one time as being somehow an instrument to Camilo's destruction. What happened with that plot line? What in the world happened with Ed's beautiful Million dollar horse? And is the horse starving now that Jacinto is not caring for him? Hmmmm???

Enquiring minds want to know....

Oh, and while we're at it - what's Erika doing to keep from getting bored? What happened to all of the spoiled milk and the customers who were going to be so disappointed and leave Grupo Lactos??

There are so many things going on, it is easy for some of the multiple plot lines to just fall under the radar...

Oh, also, somebody said something about the YouTube videos being pulled. The "official looking" ones by ESNOVELAS haven't been pulled. Do a search at YouTube for Friday's episode at MEPS 64 1. After that plays MEPS 64 2 from the table to the right. From then, future episodes up to the current episode playing in Mexico are all there. (If you choose to look ahead.) All of the prior ones are there, as well.

The Silverfox...

Mariposa Tranquila: Welcome, and back at ya' too! It is amazing the long list of newcomers we get here! This place is like Hotel California. You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave.... So, we know you'll have to come back for more, and we'll be right here waiting!

Silverfox: You have waaaayyy too much free time on your hands to keep coming up with this stuff! Between you, Dorado Dave and Susanlynn I feel like I'm one with old Gonzo and in a [mid-life] memory crisis.....

JudyB: My favorite longing stare is when Estev tells Fer she was the first on the guest list and he turns to Fr/Ed for confirmation. He agrees and that stare he gives her is a melt-me-in-your-mouth-alicously long and profoundly sin-searing one. Yowza! Whooh! I'm fanning myself just thinking about it! Ai-yai-yai-yai!

Clarification. If I'm not mistaken, we're talking about two spoiler situations. One was CB's well-intentioned spoiler which was removed. Topic unknown.

The other was Anon 10:07 which was probably in an end-of-episode preview on YouTube, but not in the previews of the broadcast, so Anon 10:07 thought it WAS in Friday's episode.

Regarding Aurora's bad bloodline, look at the two idiots that produced Fernanda. Yes, they produced Camilo and Anibal to balance things out. But unless Fern looks like the milkman, we see the apple CAN fall far from the tree.

PaulaH: Okiedok. I'll check it out on YouTube tomorrow. I'm too tuckered to think straight right now. Z: > )

Jardinera! Espectacular!! You really bring the episode back to life and more with your vocab and editorials. I especially love your description of the flirtation between Eddie and Nanda. Oh. My. Gawd. The sexy, just below the radar tango these two are doing is fantastico! You and the other cappers and commenters are very astute and entertaining in your analysis of possible psychosocial motivations of characters, plot devices and historical background and I really enjoy it. . . .but it's the classy flirtation and symphony of gesture and gaze I luuuuuv most of all!!!

Khalilah

Anon at 5:21 after having declared I'm in it for the romance, I have to say I agree wholeheartedly about Aurora. Here's my take from the show of 5-13: "Y Judy B. I fear Aurora may have to die along with Mommy Dearest, maybe she might like do a mercy killing of Mommy and then off herself. Sorry to be so dark at this time of night but I can't see them letting Santi marry the daughter of his Mother's killer. Babs killed her own parents, too and you know, like in the movie, The Bad Seed, that shit skips a generation and Aurora's kids would be the spawn of satan like Grand Ma-Ma. Just sayin'".

In short, Aurora and Babs are gonna be part of the body count thus Santi can hook up with the stoopid Errorika who maybe will get a clue by the end of the story.

oops! Anon at 745 is me, Khalilah

Vivi in DC: I hope you'll understand that because this is a spoiler free zone I had to jump ahead to see what you were referring to. Up here there was no preview, but it was in the first part of the next episodio. So, in fairness, I have to edit and repost without what pertains to spoilers --and that includes what I can edit of other comments pertaining, mine included. I appreciate the gist of your comment and it follows, edited. Hopefully, you'll continue to be a part of the mix!

Thanks for the great recap! You did miss a short forshadowing scene by fast forwarding through the Santi/Aurora scene. Very creepy and scary. -Vivi in DC

Mine:
Thanks, guys. Glad to see you all here this weekend again. I've been and will be busy for a while with extra things going on at work, so if I'm not around to put my three cents in as often, it's not because I don't wanna be!

Jardinera, Thanks for such a great recap. Your ability to describe the interaction between Fr/Ed and Fer is wonderful. I agree about the Fr/Ed's expression after Esteve mentions the party. Hot. And I thought is was cute that Fr/Ed was a little upset with Esteve for messing with Fer's head when Esteve mentioned bringing her husband.
Mariposa, Your sentiments are echoed by me as well. As you put so well, the work and time the recappers put into this site is so appreciated. And, your comment about FC: " I think it's amazing that his physical appearance and talent transcends language and cultures!' is sooo true. I wonder if FC knows what a fantastic language learning tool he is! Barbara

Mine and other edited comments regarding the rest of the "spoiler discussion" follow. Sorry for not catching it sooner, folks. Hopefully no harm, no foul. Forgive me for any confusion, but I am trying to perform surgical deletions rather than delete an entire comment which otherwise has merit.

GinCA: Here is your minimally edited comment which tries to explain the prior spoiler. Again, I am sorry for the confusion, but my prior comments should never have been made without researching the next episodio. Thanks for participating and offering your backgrounder.

Probably the Aurora scene was a preview on YouTube at the end of the final episode of cap 64. Uni has cut the first preview from Mexican TV before the final credits so we miss a lot of what is coming up in the next episode. As I mentioned before, a long while back, YouTube even showed Raquel's demise in a preview. Certainly broke the tension for me before seeing the next episode. So I think it's not a spoiler if you don't know it was not in the USA previews. GinCA

==============================

Alice/GinCA: Thanks for clearing that bit about Rory. I was thinking I might be losing it mentally like the ol' Gonz. I figured it might have been part of an unedited YouTube version of the same captitulo that Uni left on the cutting room floor. If the scene is a part of a preview, well then, it's in the public perview.

Sorry guys! I had watched this past week on MEPS on YouTube because I wasn't going to be at home in the evenings during the week. My memory of when things happened must have been off. Didn't mean to throw in a spoiler. :(

-Vivi in DC

Doris: I would have thought I'd died and gone to heaven for soil like that. Arggghh! As it is, I've learned to make do with what I'm stuck with, which means that I'm earning multitudinous points against the time I go to that giant flower-bed in the sky.....

Silverfox, Thank you for the info about YouTube. I had been typing in " manana es para siempre' --I wouldn't have guessed I would get better results typing in MEPS. Barbara

Lucio digging that enormous grave in his backyard brought back memories of all the people planted in the garden in Amarte sin Limites and that hole Crabby fell into thanks to Feonando. Carlos~~I enjoyed your trip down Memory Lane. For me, biology class was all about Lee R. who turned out to be a not so perfect beau [read lying cheater here] . But there were a lot of intense looks before the bitter ending. I wish FC had been in that class....but then I wouldn't have learned ANY biology....but then again maybe ........

Jarinera, what a great recap and the ensuing comments have been priceless. Hotel California indeed! The Eagles have always been my favorite. I remember the day that my son discovered his parents were cool - we had some really old Eagles albums.

Lucio and the scenes with Denia remind me of the old b/w movies with the villian dressed in black tying the damsel in distress to the railroad tracks, thank goodness he doesn't have a mustache to twirl.

Teflon Barbie's only redeeming quality are some of her clothes and jewelry. Too bad she hasn't helped Nanda who looks like she is straight out of the nunnery.

Esteve is still delightful. Before he arrived Eddie never ate a thing now that is all they do. Maybe they will have more workout scenes so he can work off the delights of Mexican food.

rsk

When you experience intense emotions - fear, pain, shock, etc. - your brain becomes more alert and active, and you remember the accompanying situation better. For example, if you smack my hand as I'm trying to memorize a math formula, I will remember it better (I don't recommend this study technique). I think this explains why TBLMOE is such a marvelous study aid. He gives Fernanda that seductive gaze, my heart starts racing, and any Spanish he speaks becomes indelibly etched in my brain. Beats a smack on the hand any day!

Someone mentionned that he/she couldn't remember seeing FC eating in a TN. In Alborada, I remember Luis eating breakfast as he talked to Tia Isabel in his great bachelor pad [well...room]. I liked the way he carefully wiped the napkin across his mouth before he answered her. By the by, that scene of Fr'ed's surprise at Nanda bestowing that peck on his cheek was great. And watching him rub his cheek with his hand and then transferring the kiss to his mouth was soooo sweet. As opposed to the couple scenes we had of Dam wiping off kisses.

I'm with those who think that Aurora is the innocent naif she appears to be. When Santiago left her room her expression did not change. No evil smirks, sighs of disgust, or rolling of the eyes; just that sweet, angelic, vacant half-smile. Carlos

I'm with you, Carlos, I think Aurora is sweet and innocent and any previous problems with Santiago were because she had a hard time believing anyone could love her. Remember...her only experience is one of abandonment (biological mother) and abuse (evil drunken guardian).

So I'm hoping she won't have to be "offed" along with Barbara. In fact, we don't know Barbara's full story. At times, she clearly hates what she's being asked to do. She looked horrified when the topic of killing the priest was mentionned...remember? And maybe she didn't really kill her parents. Maybe she was only accused of it (Artemio Bravo could have set her up).

Of course since then, obviously she has been wicked, wicked, wicked. But maybe she could die a redeemed death and then the future would be clear for Aurora and Santiago. I would hate to see our little muchacha killed. Let's save that kind of mayhem for Lucio and Camillo.

Regarding the volcanic soil. Last year I went to Teotihuacan which is near Mexico City (DF). You could see volcanic mountains in every direction you looked. When I took the bus between DF and Puebla, I was struck by the agriculture. (I grew up in farm country and I notice these things.) There is a mountain ridge between the two places. On the DF side, the farms looked unkempt and scraggley. On the Puebla side, what a difference! Healthy, lush, well-maintained corn fields. I felt like I was back home until I saw that the farmers had burros instead of John Deeres. The land can't be that different - both should have volcanic soil. I suspect the problem is all the pollution on the DF side of the mountain ridge.

Yep. I gotta say that I'm in the camp who thinks Aurora seems to be the exact opposite of her maternal parent. Dunno yet who the pater was. I think somebody commented earlier in the week or last that people have choices they can make in life. She's definitely had a bad role model and yet the nuns seem to have kept her not only cognizant of but also following "por buen camino". She made her choice to leave Dominga's, she made her choice not to take a roll in the proverbial hay with either the drunk, or Santiago, and especially to steer clear of Cad.

Judyb abd Carlos~~~I agree . I think that Aurora is the innocent victim that she appears to be. Someone once compared Santi to a muppet...Elmo perhaps [sin the redhair]. And, I also agree that Artful Art may have somehow convinced Beckybabs that she had killed her folks when, in fact, he did the deed. She clearly hates Art. Was it he who led her down a path that led her to become the wicked stepmom that she has become???? It will be interesting to find out the backgrounds of both Babs and Art. In the meantime, I hope that Gardenis escapes Loony Lucio without compromising Fr'ed. Maybe she will get an opportunity to shove him into that deep , deep hole that he just finished digging for her and Manz and , like Crabby in FELS, he'd have a heck of a time climbing out so she could run like the wind and escape to the safety of Las Animas and Estevie and Fr'ed. I'm confused about Jacinto??? Fr'ed could not REALLY have fired him when Fr'ed told Jacinto to let Cad into the house and let him find that letter. Fr'ed must to giving Jacinto money to live , but who is caring for the expensive horse ???? P.S. I like the way Marg calls Jacinto ''Flacco.''

Speaking of Nanda's definitively drab dress code, is she possibly keeping "luto" for her nana? I also remember thinking that Eduardo has been wearing a lot of black and sometimes black trim on his sportier stuff like he's secretly keeping luto for his mother. Maybe I'm not remembering that correctly, though and he's given the idea up because Franco wouldn't have a reason to keep luto.

Jardinera~~~Good call on Fr'ed and Nanda both always wearing black. One day a few years ago, I wore a black suit , black print blouse, and black heels to school. One of my students from Syria asked me if I was ''okay'' and if I needed anything. I suddenly realized that he thought that I was in mourning. I asked him how long a Syrian woman would wear black to signify that she was mourning someone. He told me that if her son had died, she might wear black the rest of her life. What about in Mexico...how long would people wear black to mourn a loved one ??? Nowadays in the U.S. , I've noticed that more and more people do not even wear black to funerals, buy I always do...usually black and white. Sometimes people here wear a favorite color of the deceased loved one. I had a student from Paris who arrived here around Xmas . She saw wreaths hanging on almost every door and was amazed that so many people had lost loved ones ! In France, wreayhs are hung on the doors to show that someone has died. It's always interesting to talk to my students about the different customs and concepts assosciated with birth, weddings, death, etc.

Nope. Aurora will probably end up a tragic character to whom something will happen that will make her feel unworthy of Santi's love, that and the fact that her own mother killed Santi's mother and carried out a cynical, mean charade for 15 years plotting to destory the Elizaldes: maybe it won't be murder-suicide, but she is not brother of leading lady marrying material. It's not that I think she is Eeevil. Considering the circumstances of her birth (which we don't know yet) and her "upbrining" I think she's a veritable Angel. But I still think she'll be a tragic figure and will bite the dust along with Mommy Dearest.

Khalilah

Don't forget Eduardo was a campesino even though he has now been to Haaavaaad & has some dinero. Does that make a difference to a wealthy Mexican family? Education & money probably talk anywhere, anytime. The Elizaldes don't seem to mind the fact that Aurora is not in their social level. Although Erika's mom made some reference to Erika's new enamorado being a campesino. And Monserrat seemed to be a snob.

I think we'll all cheer when Lucio and Bitch-Barbie if and when they eventually bite the dust. If Rory does I will feel rotten. Maybe Cad will go to prison for rape and other types of assault, and Demento for malpractice. I'd love to see Eddie buy out Grupo Lactos for Lili, and maybe she'll recover and give Eddie half ownership. I'd love to see AB become the janitor there!

For those that the might "spill the frijoles", I respond to the blog before I check out the next episode on you-tube.

Are there some that don't see avances? I have seen something that no one has mentioned & don't want to give anything away.

Someone mentioned Azteca. I didn't pay much attention because after looking in my cable conversion chart, it wasn't there. I just got a new digital TV for my kitchen & found Azteca. What was it that you recommended?

Jardinera~~~I was thinking more along the lines of Cad and Anyballs being put in charge of manuring out the cow pens. Growing up in a rural area with a lot of friends who lived on dairy farms , I got to hear a lot about manuring out and manure spreaders.... more than I wanted to hear. That would be poetic justice for those two n'er-do-wells.

My novela intuition tells me that Aurora is destined for a happy ending, but not before a lot more hard times. She's a sweetie, but I wish the writers would give her a little more spark or sass 'cause sometimes she's a snooze. Finding her mother is definitely going to be a good news/bad news kind of day for her. But it's Barbara's reaction I'm most stoked to see. Will her icy heart melt? Will she cry real tears for a change? I might as well simmer down, 'cause we're probably months away from that revelation.

Kahlilah, now you've got me worried. I can picture Rory giving it up to Cam, although now I think it's less likely than I did earlier. At the wedding she seemed intrigued by Cam. Now, not so much. Since we're reveling in wild predictions, I submit that Damien will rehabilitate and end up with Lil. They seem to have some chemistry. Jardinera, I don't know about Mexico, but here Drs. don't generally go to prison for malpractice. At least not yet. Carlos

It's great to relive these episodes with the group. Thanks to Jardinera and other posters for their great work. I missed the first month of this novela and then lost last week to a trip that required me to watch on-line (thank you, YouTube). I'm just catching up with the commentary and loving it.

Aurora - an innocent, IMHO. It's going to be interesting to see how Barbara reacts to being found by her daughter. The scenes in which she seeks release from Artemio Bravo suggest that she got in over her head and found that she likes evil-doing but also wants her life back. I figure that Aurora will be her Achilles heel.

I'm also wondering what kind of situation Jacinto is going to find. Great for him that he's releasing himself from the Elizalde clan.

I don't know if anyone has commented, but how could Liliana, Santi and Fernanda have two such spineless but mean brothers. They are beyond cruel and stupid. The younger ones seem to have fared better with Barbara around than the older ones who presumably had more time with their mother. I may have the birth order wrong, but I gather that Fernanda and Santi are the youngest.

Damian & Lili, wow that is really off the wall. The only one sweet enough for Lili is Santiago but that would be incest, unlesssss. I still think Santiago will end up with Erika, novela rules. I still don't have any vibes about Aurora.

re: FrEd & Nanda wearing black --- remember that we've only had, what, may be a half-dozen wardrobe changes? The wedding may have only happened two weeks ago, in MEPS time.

Well, Carlos, I just figure that being a soap, there's got to be a lot more dirt and blood and tears. Aurora bores some of us, some of us are enchanted and others say "whatever." She and Santi are important to the story: she's getting closer to the Elizaldes and they are very gracious and kind to her (well, most of them). But her whole life has been a tragedy and it's not going to let up: Babs is her Mom and it WILL be discovered that Babs is a conniving, lying, murderous, unscrupulous and theiving Wretch. Two major ways I see this playing out: Either this will be too much for the gentle Aurora who already once tried to relieve Santi of her presence and she will come to a tragic end....Or the call of the Bitchblood will possess her and she'll seek to defend and/or act in collusion with Mommy. . .and come to a tragic end. It sure is going to be exciting and heartbreaking for some to see how it unfolds.

Khalilah

I think that Lili might end up with Esteve. He'll probably help Fr'ed to rescue her. He may not be as goodlooking as Fr'ed but he has intelligence, a sense of humor, logic, a kind heart, and manners which make him appealing. Cuteguy Doctorcito seems enamored with Martina the Magnifica. I can't warm up to Error , but Santi was so in love with her when they were young before Cad stepped in, so maybe they'll end up together if something happens to Aurora. Will Vlad end up with Prissy ? I think Dam and Babs will end up dead or in jail.

Lordy, Carlos! I'm not a lawyer, I just play one on the blog.
9 ; > )

Sorry about the lack of knowlege re: legalisms, but I'm sure there's something physicians can go to prison for due to some sort of medical malfeasance/negligence short of actually killing somebody or raping them while unconscious in their examining room, or blackmailing/extorting their patients over something they learned while treating them, or practicing medicine once they've lost their license, or committing some sort of professional/medical fraud on a patient? Throw a little enlightenment this way and fill me in. I've never ever had a heart-to-heart with a doc about it-- or much else-- except my personal medical state or what I want a doc to remember about a drug. Shocking perhaps, but true. Seriously, with all due respect, what would you consider Demento would be legally liable for considering what a villain he has been these 15 years? This guy is an alcoholic and "practices" under the influence, he's been physically abusing his patient/s and hiding behind his supposed medical license ala Matasanos in FELS in order to carry out that abuse. This inquiring mind wants to delve into yours and to pick your brain. You've pricked my curiosity.

Variopinta, I know that it may seem( OK...is) far-fetched, Damien has always acted with kindness(although at times with fairly well concealed disdain)towards Lil (remember the affectinate little wave?), and Lil has been almost playful in her condemnations of Damien. I see that as a foundation for a more intense relationship. His only crimes so far are spoiling a little milk(does the admonition,"don't cry ..."apply to soured milk?), cheating on his wife, and washing his whites with his coloreds. He seems to love his lush of a mother and really dresses up nce. And you(not just you would deny this couple a shot at happiness? I would hope not. Carlos

Nope. Telenovela rules allow for non-blood relations in a mix 'n matched/blended family to marry. In La Esposa Virgen, AN married her half-brother's half-brother (Sergio Sendel) after she married Sendel's character's elderly uncle on the uncle's deathbed and was unable to consummate the marriage to the old fart cuz he died right after. The old guy was AN's dead mother's ex-lover wanting to protect her as the daughter of his old flame. This is where family trees turn into family jungle vines according to the Hubster. (Uncross those eyes, y'all.) Uhhh, so this means that Aurora is fully capable of marrying Santi even though her birth-mom is Gonzo's second wife and Sanit's step-mom. Shooh! Now, that should be clear as mud to everybody, right?

Susanlynn: Cad needs to be turned into horse manure, by fertilizing the grass in the fields, much along the lines of dear, dead, Rene. --Any Balls needs to be made to eat that manure. Ahh! Nothing like the smell of horse manure on grassy fields in the hot summer sun. Now, the urine from a mare in heat that's been inside a hot stable can turn your stomach, least-wise, it does mine. Phew!

Damians good points, he didn't rape his wife, he gave Lili a little wave & idiotic smile, he is good looking
& dresses well with only one small suitcase of clothes, he seemed happy Pris is preggers.

His bad points, he spoiled the milk, he cheated on his wife, & left her for $3mil, he hung up on his mamá, he doesn't sort his ldy. & is anyones nightmare of a house guest.

He & Fr/Ed have one thing in common, vengeance toward Babs

I don't see Dam as evil . He's just sort of a shallow , amoral, unethical opportunist who looks good in a tight tee. And, we've all met a couple of those guys, right ? I do have a soft spot in my heart for Sergio since he resembles my sweet cousin Skip. I wonder if he and Fr'ed [Dam, not Skipper] will eventually join forces to out Babs. He and Dr. O are the ones who could rat on Babs , and ,of course, Aurora and Gardenia both saw Babs and Dam doing the bunny hop-hop-hop. Well, now I'm going back to watching Alborada. Be still my heart. I just watched Luis and Hippolita's first kiss [not counting that one night Hip spent with the MysteryBoinker in Santa Rita.] Lucero looks so different as Hippolita...very little eye makeup and long, curly auburn locks. Sje looks so much younger. Anyone know if any historical novelas are being planned ? How about Carla Estrada's next project? Is Eduardo Yanez working on anything new ? I missed the Mother's Day show that he was on. I'd love to see Eduardo and Fernando together in a novela. Ed would probably make a great hulking villain.

Well, I'm supposed to be trying to finish Detectives Salvages by Tue. (only 98 pages left) but first things first. Jardinera, as I understand it (thankfully my firsthand knowledge of this subject is limited), there are a number of things a Dr. can go to jail for including forms of homocide, negligent prescibing of controlled substances, sexual misconduct, insurance or Medicare fraud, impersonating a Dr. (at one time seemingly common in Texas ),and I'm sure many more things I haven't thought of. We once had a Dr. in Pasadena(who used to attend my LL games...his brother was my manager)who was convicted of killing his partner with a deer rifle. He also took his race horse into surgery at their hospital (the surgical superviser complained). Ask some of your Drs. for their stories. I guarantee that they have them. Carlosd

Variopinta: Dam won't have to die because he does wear pink well and he is on his way to proving Barbie's the one embezzling company funds. He was just "following orders" when it came to spoiling the milk, and so he may get telenovela immunity for that if he succeeds in nailing (legally, this time) Babs and Any Balls for financial wrongdoings and for playing matchmaker for the ever loyal BFF Vlad. He does lose points for attempting to abandon his mama and for breaking all those bar glasses and lying to Vlad, IMHO.

...and don't forget , Jardinera~~~You can't trust him with the laundry. By the way, when he pulled that pale pink tee out of the dryer, do you think he threw the fabric softener on the floor...or maybe out the window ???? I don't trust Hub with the laundry.

Khalilah, How about a scenario where Barbara saves Aurora maybe at the cost of her own life. She would then be redeemed and once again have the chance to give her daughter life, so to speak.

So many plot turns to come. For instance, I can't wait to see Mrs. Palafox try to shake down Artemio Bravo with the birth certificate she found. That should be fun.

Meanwhile,Gardenia will do the right thing. They way she wept when the bus hauled away her precious Eduardo tells me that she would die for him. I feel sorry (OK, not much) for Lucio. That hole has room for him. Carlos

I don't think Dam is doomed either, but neither do I think there's going to be room for him in any Elizalde Family Christmas cards.

The only one I'd fix him up with is maybe Errorika. But there's no reason they'd get together.

I like Aurora + Santi better than Erika + Santi, because I think Erika is too shallow and fantasy-prone for Santi. Santi needs a very down-to-earth woman like Aurora to keep him grounded.

Likewise, Erika needs a down-to-earth man... maybe Esteve, but I like him too much to waste on her. :-) Argh, I liked her character in Pasión so much more!!

I like Susanlynn's idea of getting Esteve together with Lili. It's cute that he seems to like Gardenia, but I don't really see a future for that relationship!

I sure hope Gardenia gets her fighting spirit back tomorrow night. Right now it looks like her best bet is for someone to rescue her, but I'd be so much happier if she kicked Lucio in the shins and knocked him into the ex-gumshoe's grave and ran away.

Hey, I like this predictions game. Perfect for the Friday recap so we have three days to bounce ideas around.

I don't think there is any pie cart with Damian's name on it. As Susanlynn said, he's a shallow, amoral opportunist, but not evil and he hasn't done very grave misdeeds. I have to wonder why Barb brought him on board if she didn't use him for much havoc. Just to break Fern's heart? Weak.

I predict that Damian will help Ed, initially to bring down Barb (my enemy's enemy is my ally), but Ed will influence him for good and he'll move to the light side. He'll become an important weapon on Ed's side, though never totally trusted. I could picture him with Liliana - that could actually work. But more than that, I see him with Erika. They are both morally tainted like his pink shirts, they're both shallow and lacking substance, and they both look good in pink.

Santi will stay with Aurora. Not Erika. But he learned his lesson, from Cam stealing Erika. Cam will keep putting moves on Aurora, and at some point Santi will thrash him for her honor.

Of course Dr Cuteguy with Martina, and I think from the clues we've seen, eSteve will be with Gardenia and their life will be a carnival.

In summary:
Damian moves to light side.
Damian + Erika
Santiago + Aurora
Gardenia + eSteve
Dr. Cuteguy + Martina

One more prediction. Jacinto spends a season on the dark side.

He's bitter these days. He's never been able to stand up for himself. Fr/Ed hasn't tried to make amends since firing him. And Jacinto would do anything to protect his wife. So Jairo or somebody puts him between a rock and a hard place, and Jacinto folds and sells out to the bad guys. But before he can do any serious damage he comes to his sense and repents.

No predictions for Gonzo? How about he ends up with Dam's mom? They can go into assisted living together. Erika needs to move to Argentina and find a hot Latin lover and raise horses. Art needs to have some sort of gruesome end (just like his artwork).

No way is Denia going to give up Ed to Lucio, if nothing else the childhood friends have and will remain loyal. She is smart enough to think up something to tell Lucio that would throw him off his game long enough for her to get away.

rsk

Paula, I like your thinking (gosh darn, am I that fickle?). Thanks for the nod toward a pairing of Lil and Dam,you see the logic, don'cha?. If Gardenia doesn't end up with Esteve, then all that is holy comes into question. From time immemorial, brilliant men have hooked up with ditzes. Arthur Miller and MM for example. She is much deeper and substantial than she seems. Carlos

Damian Lite...hmmmm...We'll see. I really don't like Error much. She justs sits around longing for a hubby. Bleccchhh. Cad was horrible to her,but she's got to get her act together and build a life for herself instead of obsessing over Fr'ed. Although.....who wouldn't ???? Anyhoo, I'd be okay with Error just raising horses or whatever the rich mujers of Mexico do to pass their days. Get a library card , travel, go out dancing, join Facebook, do some charity work, Error. I really think that the two sweetie pies were meant for each other---Santi and Aurora 4ever. I don't think Damian will wind up with any of these gals. He will move to Acapulca , cruise for wealthy widows, and become some lucky [?] lady's boytoy. Does anyone see Vlad and Pris ending up together ? I think they might becauseeven though he is creepy in a stalking kind of way , he is her baby daddy. I could see Esteve with Gardenia , but Lili deserves a good guy after all the trauma she's endured all these years.

Wow...Marilyn...now there was a girl no man could resist...Arthur Miller, the Kennedys, Joe DiMaggio. What a girl. And she was a curvy, healthy girl like Martina and Gardenia, not a svelte Kate Moss type. In fact, there isn't a stick figure among the female cast. They all have varying amounts of meat on their bones unlike a lot of actresses in American films and TV shows.

Carlos, how could forget Houston's famous odd couple - J. Howard Marshall and Anna Nicole Smith. Poor Lil is going to be a very wealthy lady one of these days - she will need to watch her back for the rest of her life. Maybe Ed and Esteve have an equally wealthy Harvard friend for her.

rsk

Paula, Jacy to the darkside? ¡Ay! No puedo más. Are you serious? On second thought, I don't think that he has met Esteve yet. ¡ Ay, caray, caray! Carlos

Yeah, Vlad and Pris. I think being around Damian is actually forcing Vlad to be sane.

I believe the person most likely to put Jacinto between a rock and a hard place is not Jairo, but Eduardo himself. Jacinto has already risked a lot to help his friend, but it's getting worse rather than better. For example, even if Ed's paying him on the side, he still needs to find a job someplace just for appearances' sake.

And when Jace finds out that Gardenia nearly got killed because of who she works for, who knows how he might react. It's not Eduardo's fault this happened, but Jacinto's life was a lot simpler before Ed came back. A guy can only take so much.

Thinking about who ends up with whom, can anyone think of any novela where the heroine has sex with anyone except the hero, unless (this happens a lot) she's raped by the villain and is awfully ashamed of this fact?

I know reality doesn't play into it, but most women in their middle to late 20s have a couple of flings under their belts before they get serious. But telenovelas, nada de eso! Virgins or raped innocents.

Wait. Lili is 7 or so years older than Fer and that would probably make her only a couple of years older than Estev. I could see her with him. Err couldn't marry Dam because then Fer would simply have to cut off their friendship in order to avoid having to listen to Err gossip endlessly for the next 50 years about the most intimate details of her sex and family life with the creep who cheated on her with daddy's trophy wife before, during and after the sham marriage. That would be a bit much to take, especially after being thrown under the bus for a promise of $3 million greenbacks by the dude.

Julie: "I think being around Damian is actually forcing Vlad to be sane." Maybe it's just that Damian is actually crazier by comparison.

At least in reality world, a woman who has spent 15 years drugged up in an assylum wouldn't be ready to marry anyone for quite some time. So maybe Lil won't have anybody. Of course this is a novela and all the good guys get somebody.

Novelera, about sullied heroines. I can think of two in my limited experience. In Tontas, Candy had sex with Pat a week before their catastrophic wedding. She discovered his unfaithfulness at the wedding and hated all men for the next eight years. In LFMB Lety had sex with Miguel as part of a cruel trick when she was in college. In both cases, the situation left deep emotional scars on the heroine.

And as for Jacinto going to the dark side, keep in mind, only as a temporary move of desperation. Not permanently.

Novelera, Leti(LFMB) comes to mind as well as Candy (well, the jury's still out on who is the main galan, but my money's on Santi). Carlos

Paula you beat me to it (note to Carlos, LEARN TO TYPE!). Please indulge me , I'm compelled to boast. Our dinner tonight featured Swiss chard which I cultivated myself. Don'r things you grow yourself always taste better? A nod as well to the steer who gave his life to be the smothered steak. Que descanse en paz. You were delicious. Carlos

Outstanding Jardinera. Wow, what a lot of ocmments we have tonight. I was wrong about Lucio--bummer. He should have been the one in the grave. How did he climb out of that thing anyway?

Gardenia--stop crying and smack him with something for God's sake! He's a moron. I don't think he's long for this world though. Once he confronts Barb it will be all over for him.

I'm trying to like Rory but just can't for some reason. She's just too innocent.

I'm starting to like Esteve. He's just so funny. At least I can understand him. Nanda is another thing altogether. I have the worst time understanding her.

Jacinto needs to smack Cadmil-ho with a shovel or something.

Yeah...I don't think that Dam could end up with Nanda's sister or friend after leaving her the way he did even if he somehow helps nail Babs. As for sex and TN heroines, Hipolita never even slept with her hubby and Luis was muy ticked when he thougt that she was pregnant by her hubby. In Amor Real, Manuel accused Matilde of being pregnant by Adolfo, but she had never slept with him or anyone else e3xcept Manuel. In Pasion, Camila was raped by one of the creepy pirates. I was a little surprised that the writers had her sleep with RicRicRic before they were married. The heroes , however, can sleep with other women . Luis slept with his wife, Perla, and who knows who else. Manuel slept with the skanky housekeeper Antonio. RisRicRic surely had many comely wenches while pirating around. Double standard??...si si. Now Hot Rod from Destilando Amor was an interesting exception...he couldn't do the bunnyhop with anyone but Gaviota.

Carlos~~I agree about food you grow tasting better. My family had a huge truck patch on the farm for years...string beans, peas, onions, cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, turnips . And my dad grew fields of potatoes and the most delicious sweet corn called Sugar and Honey. Of course , all the weeding, picking, and freezing took a lot of effort and time but the veggies always tasted super delicious.

Carlos, estoy de acuerdo. About the home-grown veggies, and also about the typing. You need to learn to type so you can start recapping! You're a natural

Thanks for the responses on unmarried sex for heroines. I didn't see either LFMB or am I watching Tontas so I couldn't think of any.

My preference has usually been novelas de epoca.

I always get a kick out of the way the writers dispatch the hero's castoff loves so as not to make him appear to be a cad . These mujers are always rescued and married by the best friend/servant/employee of the hero. In Alborada, Luis's bodyguard Marcos married Luis's mistress Perla , and in Amor Real, Manuel's attorney Sixto married Manuel's housekeeper/mistress Antonio. Tiding endings with no amantes alone and set adrift when the two leads finally are together para siempre.

Novelera, regarding heroine virgins, one other point someone brought up once. I have no trouble believing that there are appealing women who are still virgins in their mid-to-late twenties. But what doesn't make sense is that those women fall into bed when they meet the galan. There are those that do and those that don't. But those that don't, don't.

I've had fun reading all the couples predictions. I *know* that Fer will end up with FrEd, but beyond that... who knows?

In looking at the Grupos Lactos management team (a/k/a the Fam. Elizalde), I wonder if Lili will end up bailing out the company with her inheritance from Ciro, and running it single-handedly after firing Gonzo & Co. Fernanda won't have any interest, as she'll be blissfully wed to FrEd and mom to beautiful chiquillos.

Anonymous : Sun May 17, 07:37:00 PM, re Babs redeeming herself by saving Aurora. Enh? Nah. Babs is a designated badee. And Damn. That he's salvagable to some of us (Damian light! Hee Hee!) is all due to Sendel's Hohtness and ability to somehow endear himself to us despite his shadiness (Hey, I wanted to cry when Aaron was executed in DA), but as a character in this story, I think he might end up getting bumped off by Babs in his failed attempt to nail her, which will add to her badness quotient juuust in case some people don't remember why she should die. He will NEVER get with Lili, her sister's disgraced husband and simultaneous stepmother boinker. No. Possible. Way.

And I do hope Eduardo (WHEN he accepts the moolah) finds an honorable way to help out his friend Jacinto who has taken too many hits since he came back into town. And Margarita should rip Eduardo a new one for what happened to Gardenia -- he hasn't had their backs at all.

Khalilah

I did cry when Aaron was executed! He is the kind of guy that you like even though he's bad. I agree, it's his hotness!

Happy Monday everybody. Hey--it's not raining! Wow. We had hail on Friday. Just gotta love spring in the midwest!

Connie~~~Morning ! It's a cool , gray day here. We've had cool, rainy weather this May here in the Northeast , but last weekend we were in Toronto with heavy rain and hail. I am so ready for some warm. sunny days. Khalilah~~~I agree with you that Fr'ed has not been protecting those around him. He seems a little overwhelmed and over his head right now. P.S. I had a student named Khalih.

Sorry, I cannot blame Ed for what happened to Denia. Lucio has always had the hots for her and remember she is the one that spilled the beans to Lucio about Dam and Barb doing the bunny hop hop in the back of the car. This was the tool that he used to get Soledad's house, and the feeling of power and majesty he has over the "hired help".

Carlos: It would appear your book took second place to the topics du jour here yesterday. Therefore, I do at least want to say thanks, but still 2 things: First, I'm curious to know if the doc in question rode the horse inside the sterile area or just to the sinks --or did he actually operate on the beast?

2nd: With you as my sole exception I say, respectfully, nay --as opposed to "ne-e-e-y." Leave the gods and goddesses on the heights of Mt. Olympus. The hoi-palloi need their space and their sense of self left in tact. As you well know, the 9 second sound-byte (when one is lucky enough to grab hold of it these days) leaves one little time to presumptuously pester about the past, and far less to remove one's posterior in a dignified manner out of the path. !8 ?{

Jardinera, he actually operated on his racehorse(to the chagrin of local vets), which as I recall expired during surgery. Some days later he waited in ambush in an adjacent field and shot his partner who was in the Drs. parking lot. The story dominated the Houston papers for a number of weeks. He seemed like such a nice guy too. He was a med school classmate of one of my closest friends, who from time to time would visit him in prison.

As for my reading, I'm going to have to distract my Spanish tutor for an hour tomorrow. I've done it before.

Too bad Drs. don't have more time to regale reps with their tales. My good friend Dr. Butts (a colon rectal surgeon) has some of the best stories and is always surrounded with eager listeners at cocktail parties.

Carlos

Carlos~~~Dr. Butts?????? You have to be making that one up !! My doc is Dr. Pickle. He's a dilly. [Sorry...I couldn't resist.]

Was his first name Seymor? :}

Susanlynn, I knew there would be doubters, fortunately you can see for yourself. His office is on the second floor of our building. He was a surgical resident in Houston while I was a student in Galveston.

Carlos

Susanlynn and Connie, funny. Believe it or not, the urologist I usually refer is named Dr. Winkle. His dad also was a urologist who I referred to until he retired.

Carlos

One time I saw a doctor named Bonebrake--he was an ob/gyn. At least he wasn't a bone doctor. That would have been funnier.

As a child , my dentist was an old guy named Dr. Hole. He was awful.

I don't see a good ending for Aurora.

Anibal might straighten out once he gets business pressures & Babs off his back. He was set up for most of the stuff that has gone wrong with the business. Pris's money was probably used for the business.

In the opening scenes they show Erika & Camilo at the race track & I don't remember that actually happening before. Can't believe Camilo could actually turn out ok, he's been a canalla all his life, but this is a novela.

Damian is the financial officer of the business so he has responsibility for things that have gone wrong, even after he's cleared of the $3mil.

I still see Santiago & Erika
Martina & Dr. Cutie
Gardenia & Esteve
Lili will probably be a nun & give all her money to the family. I just can't see her with any of the men we have so far.

If we really want to get Gonzo for being stupid, how about Graciela?

Variopinta, I'm not certain who Graciela is, but if she's Damian's mom, I'm afraid with the way she was tossing back Gonzo's brandy that her liver won't hold out for much longer. I'm kinda enjoying hearing the occasional"donde está mi hijo,"so I say let's keep her around for awhile.

Carlos

Aurora needs a personality. She seems just dead to me. No highs, no lows.

Jardinera, I accept your advice. Thanks. I won't spoil or border on it in the future. And yes, if you could give me a lead on Caneveral, I'd love it. Keep up your awesome recaps.

I continue to be amazed at how many folks are watching MEPS and talking about it here. I love it!

Paula, loved the image "tainted like his pink shirts."
Susanlynn, I can see Damian roaming the resort area streets as a jaded, faded gigolo.
Carlos, thanks for Dr. Butts and my Monday morning laugh.
La Paloma

I just read the recap and commnets today and I'll say this about Aurora re: 'Criminal mom'.

I don't think we can generalize about offsprings being evil or we we would have enitre families of criminals killed already kinda like Eugenics of some sort.

There are many theories about why people become criminal. There is also the nature vs nurture debate. There is also srong consensus on being predisposed to crime combined with the environment.

Labelling, strain theory, differential association (birds of a feather flock together)I took a lot of criminology and criminal justice classes in college and there is rarely if ever talk about the bad seed skipping a generation. So I guess that is just fiction.

On a little aside, the history channel featured some stories about Adolf Hitler's family and relatives. If I remmeber correctly, one son lives here in the states, other have changed their name. They are living normal uneventful lives....

The only memorable generational criminals that I know of in modern History are Sadam Hussein and Uday and Qusay. I saw the graphic pictures of their death and the video clips as well when our troops were shelling their compound.....

Ibarramedia

I like Aurora, and when she and Santiago kiss, I think there is a lot of emotion. I don't think her being the daughter of Babs dooms her at all, and Santiago can marry the daughter of his mother's killer, just as the FELS brothers all married Gabriella's daughters, and she had a big role in killing their parents, right?

I like Paula's idea of Jacinto temporarily going to the dark side, as did Don Justo in Pasion.

I actually think Erika could go to the dark side. She can't have Franco, and if Aurora gets Santiago, she can't have him, either. She's pretty strong-willed, so I'd watch our for her.

As for heroes and heroines sleeping with someone else, in Querida Enemiga, Lorena never did quite sleep with Alonso, but she did sleep with Ernesto, so that should have clued us in as to the final winner. But Ernesto slept with Monica, the restaurant owner's daughter (I think that was her name), and she never did get a suitable replacement.

Finally, if Gardenia does tell Lucio the secret, and then he threatens Babs, as it looked like in the preview, well, if he got killed before revealing the secret, the secret is safe.

Si, Hombre, you have a point but having a role and actually stuffing a pillow up somebody's nostrils is a tad different, not to mention having falsely imprisoned and kept in chemical straight jacket one Elizalde daughter for fifteen years and having been willing to "fry the brains" of said daughter. Plus, attempting to steal the family's entire fortune, ruin them financially and socially. . .Babs is a big time baddie. That doesn't even include planting a shady sheister CFO up to enamorar and aid in the robbing of the family via the only remaining "viable" daughter. (And boinking that sheister CFO on top of that!)

Skipping a generation a la bad seed, I cite that and it's purely novela talk. . .but whoever said Aurora is blank, I think you're right, they can make her swing either way, that's why I say she can totally get-Bitchy-with-it with mom or against her to eliminate her.

Khalilah

Khalilah, I don't know if you saw FELS, but trust me, Gabriela was every bit as bad as Babs. She

- framed her father for the killing of her mother (she was actually driving the car)

- slept with her daughter's husband, her son-in-law, openly

- kidnapped her supposed daughter's baby, made her think the baby was dead, and hid the baby for years while it's mother was searching for it

- stole her maid's baby and traded it for land, never telling the maid what happened to the baby, but torturing her about it for 20 years

- tried to kill her daughter and the daughter's boyfriend numerous times, by, among other things, pouring gasoline on the house where they slept, and lighting the blaze

- she was also involved in, or knew about and kept quiet, at least 3 other murders

Anway, her three daughters, who were innocent, married the three guys who had suffered a lot of her crimes, lost their land, their parents, etc. Of course she had to die first, so maybe Babs would have to die for Santiago to marry Aurora.

But I agree, it would be fun to see Aurora change from her blank slate to the side of evil.

That was me Khalilah, she's like Chuck Norris--only one exprssion!

Hombre, you forgot marrying said son-in-law.

Jardinera: thank you for the wonderful recap. The comments were great and enloyed the couples speculation. I think Esteve is sweet and sensitive and would love to see him with Lili, once and if she is emotionallly healed.

I don't know if Gardenia will "betray" Ed but Lucio is just plain loco and I wouldn't blame her for saying anything with that lunatic brandishing the gun in her face within inches of the open tomb.

Diana in MA

Carlos
Graciela is Ciro's esposa de infierno. Damian's mom is Ursula.

Carlos: Are you reading the Bolaño book in English or Spanish? I tried it in English, and also took a stab at 2666. Really difficult and complex writing. I want to try him again, but I'm in two book groups and often give up on books other than the recommended ones.

It would be interesting for the character of Aurora to show just a little bit of the darks side. But Ariadne Diaz who plays her was a bit tough, not really evil as Flor in Al diablo con los guapos. Almost an opposite of Aurora.

Ibarramedia

Novelera, I'm reading it in Spanish. It's a little more difficult than your average novela because it's told in the voices of many(and I mean many) characters. The first chapters are like the diary of a single character and then it becomes like a series of interviews each with a different style of speaking and vocabulary. I use the dictionary quite a bit. There really is not a real coherent plot, but is one of the most engrossing books I've ever read. An example(sorry everyone else, skip on ahead) I had mentioned to my tutor that she had never taught me any profanity. That was right before getting to the chapter on Barbara Patterson a
gringa who makes swearing in Spanish an art form. My advise, get a good dictionary, a good reading light and get ready for a verbal treat. I finally found copies of 2666 in Spanish(easy to find English translations) so that will be our next adventure.

Carlos

Variopinta, thanks, I knew it had to be one of those two. I hadn't thought much about her although she and her son a really jewels. Who would guess tha little insipid bastard would be Ciro's offspring. Perhaps a busy milkman lurking in the bushes?

Carlos

CB: Here are two possible sources who have been reliable for people. These would be the entire novela with 20-30 or so dvd's in the set. FYI -there will probably not be CC on something from the mid-'90's. You'll need to make sure you specifiy for U.S. video recording/receiving equipment 'cause the broadcast signals are different if recorded for use in other continents and those DVD's wouldn't work on your equipment. Hope these work out for you.

Thanks, Carlos. Kudos to you for your difficult Spanish reading choices! I was in a Spanish language book group for about six months, but I couldn't keep up. It takes me too long to read a novel in Spanish, and we met once a month at a local book store. I was the only non-native speaker in the group. They were from all over: Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina and Peru. I didn't want to give up my long-lasting other English book groups, so something had to give. These people were great, very patient with me trying to express difficult literary concepts in Spanish. We read mostly newer books, lots of winners of the Alfaguara prize. These people had read the older classics long ago in segundaria o universidad.
