MEPS, Thursday, May 07, 2009, The Cats are Chasing the Rats and Damian Gets Dumped

Happy Friday, world. Hope you have a good day. Someone please post this for me. Thanks.

It must be Thursday because it’s 8:03 p.m. CST and Televisa is still broadcasting Cuidado. So, those of us who are recording via DirecTV will lose some of the transmission since our DVR’s record in time segments. Just thought I’d vent that out.

Manana begins at 8:06 p.m. CST. Fer is lamenting the absence of Damian. If she only knew. Ed propositions Barbara – or so she thinks.

Santi tries to cheer Fer up. She’s happy he’s here when she needs him most. Mercifully, this is the last we see of him in this chapter.

Franco keeps pouring more wine for Barb. He tells her she’s an intelligent woman. She says, why aren't you dealing with Anibal. He laughs. She wants to know what business he’s proposing. He tells her that he has to minimize Power Milk’s risks. She can’t stand his evasiveness. Ed wants the community center built asap. She thinks he’s just making up excuses to see her alone, and she reminds him that she’s a married woman. He’s not fooled.

Camilo enters Gonzo’s office, where Dam’s mom is still hysterical. Camilo tells Gonzo he has to see him. It’s real important.

In a scene of delightful domestic bliss, Vlad, wearing an apron, is making breakfast for Dam. Dam says that if Vlad keeps his mouth shut, he’ll help him get Pris. That is Vlad’s dream. Dam says that if I say it’s so, it’s because it’s going to be.

Lili tells Martina that she doesn’t want to live. Martina tells her Ed came to see her. Enter Dr. O, Mrs. Ciro and Simple Simon. Mrs. Palafox makes nice with Lili. That woman has the worst facelift. She looks like a renovated Zsa Zsa Gabor. Or, is it resurrected?

Barb questions Ed about how he is going to save the company from ruin. He says, he assures her he’s not taking advantage of the situation. He tells her he’s still having problems transferring the money to Grupo Lactos. The stress is getting to her. Some things bother her. She wants to tell him all and wants to know if he can keep a secret. His cell rings and he has to leave the room. It’s Steve who’s at Toluca Airport. Ed tells him not to move and thanks for coming.

Barb keeps pressing Ed for info about when the $3 million will arrive. He says within 24 hours and she congratulates him about how easy it is to do business with him. He’s trying to get up to her level. He gets close to her. An intelligent woman is always attractive, he says. Who are you really. Really, he says, your best friend, Barb. She says this is the beginning of a long friendship.

Mrs. Palafox is trying to get info out of Lili about his papers. Lili attacks Mrs. Palafox and Dr. O is delighted. Mrs. Palafox didn’t even lose her wig.

Anibal is at the computer and telling Gonzo, Camilo and Fer that the money is gone. Only Barb and Damian know the passwords. Camilo says it must be Damian. Fer tells Cam that Dam’s mother told her Dam was leaving the country and would never return. Camilo of course adds that he went on their honeymoon with someone else and wants them to call the police.

Dr. O tells Mr. Palafox that he warned her that Lili was dangerous and crazy and that she was committed to the asylum 15 years ago by her family, unlike Ciro who admitted himself. Could Ciro have admitted himself to get away from Mrs. Palafox. Mrs. Palafox insists on talking with Martina. She’s getting desperate to find the papers.

Gonzo tries to slow Camil down. Anibal can’t get Barb on the phone. Her phone is turned off. Camilo wants Gonzo to call someone in the department of immigration. Gonzo keeps saying they don’t have proof. I assume that they want to prevent Damian from leaving the country. Anibal and Camilo argue against him. Gonzo keeps insisting that Barb has nothing to do with this.

Deep Throat and Barb have a conversation. She’s telling him about getting the $3 million tomorrow and Deep Throat thinks that’s splendid.

Mrs. Palafox sweet talks Martina and gives Martina her telephone number. Mrs. Palafox asks Martina if she knows Artemio Bravo. We can only hope this information gets to Ed.

Barb asks Artemio when the craziness will end. He says Lili will kill her father and every drop of Elizalde blood will be wiped off the face of the earth.

Pris is talking to Vlad about her investments. He wants to help her by setting up a trap for Anibal. She must get a separation or lose her money. She says no dice. Don’t you want to know what your husband is doing behind your back? You’ll end up in the street. The street is apparently the private hell of anyone who has money because that’s where they end up when they have no money.

Barb finally speaks to Gonzo and he tells her to get to the office immediately.

Pris wants to see Vlad. He’s delighted. She doesn’t care that it’s late and she’s going to his apartment to talk. He says tomorrow and sends her a kiss and jumps around like a crazy man. Damian has been choreographing this and reminds Vlad of the conditions. Dam needs to get on the internet. Vlad will do anything for him. Dam thought bubbles that Vlad is an idiot. It takes one to know one.

Fer and Ursula talk. Ursula is distraught and drunk. She can’t believe what’s happening. Fer tells her to go home. Fer asks Flor if by any chance she has Vlad’s phone number. Barb struts off the elevator. Fer wants to talk to her. And, she asks Barb if she has the business’s bank passwords. Of, course, I do, purrs Barb.

Vlad goes out for sandwiches. Dam wants cookies. He needs the energy to work on the computer.

Barb is on the computer at Grupo Lactos. She begins to hyperventilate. Get Damian quick. We have to have an explanation for this.

Dam can’t believe what he sees. He wants an explanation from Barb. Looks like he’s figured out that he’s been double crossed.

While Barb and Fer are at the computer, Barb’s cell rings. It’s Damian, Fer chirps hopefully.

Barb grabs the phone. Barb says, no, love, it’s the plant – not Damian. Barb wants to know what happened between her and Damian. I’d like to know that too, says Fer.

Damian is beside himself with anger. Only $300 has been deposited to his account. He leaves a message for Barb to call him asap.

Fer keeps talking to Barb and asks what’s happening. Barb tells her that their money has been transferred from Chicago. Their deposits have disappeared. Exactly $3 milllion has been withdrawn. Barb says could it be possible that Damian did this. Fer wants to know why she thinks this. Barb says that Dam has the passwords. Barb digs a little deeper. Yup, it was Damian. His number was used to make the transfer. Fer is distraught. Fer doesn’t want to believe that Damian cheated them. Gonzo enters and is furious.

Gonzo wants to know who she met at the club. Barb is shocked.

Ed introduces Steve to Gardenia who admits she doesn’t know a word of English. Good old boy Steve talks about food which is her favorite subject. His accent is so good. Steve asks if Gardenia was that girl who wrote him letters and who wanted to be his girlfriend when she grew up. Steve asks Ed if Gardenia is in love with him. Ed says, no.

Ed tells Steve that he’s been doing business with The Hyena.

Barb went to the club to talk about Grupo Lactos’ business with Franco Santoro. Power Milk hadn’t yet deposited the money promised. She gets on her high horse and reminds Gonzo that she has acted solely to save the company.

Artemio’s private eye tells himthat Franco Santoro is a very strange man who is hiding something. Aremio wants an X-ray of Franco. The private eye tells him that in two days he’ll have what he wants. He orders Manzanares to get rid of the priest. Manzanares promises to rap it up in two days.

Fer tells Gonzo and Barb that Ursula told her that Damian called to tell her he was leaving the country. Barb, who is breathing heavily, says, without you? Suddenly, Barb sees that $3 million has been withdrawn from their account. It’s Damian who has done this dirty deed.

Damian is frustrated that he can’t get Barb on the phone. Happy Vlad enters with goodies and Damian screams at him. Can’t you see I need to be alone. Damian calms down. He explains to Vlad that he’s still waiting for the money transfer and that he’s had a momentary lapse of control. Damian is losing it. He tries to call again. No luck.

Ed tells Steve how grateful he is to have him as a friend. Steve wants to know it all. Ed says his situation is desperate. He has 24 hours to save himself or sink.

Anibal rages to Barb, Camilo, Fer and Gonzo about the evil Damian and that he stole another $3 million from the company. Ever the understanding brother Camilo yells at Fer and asks her how could Damian do this. She leaves.

Martina is taking care of Lili. She wants to know what happened with her stepmother at the hacienda. Lili says she’s not crazy. Martina knows that. Lili says that La Hyena wants to kill her father. Dr. O enters and tells Martina he needs her to do him a favor.

The Elizaldes continue their yelling at each other. Gonzo wants them to support Fer. Anibal reminds Gonzo that this $3 million withdrawal will ruin them. Barb tells them that if they acknowledge this, Power Milk won’t invest money with them. They have to wait till the money is in the bank and then denounce Damian.

Vlad wants to know if he can help Dam. Of course, says Dam. He wants Vlad to call Grupo Lactos and ask for Barb. Vlad doesn’t get it. Dam tells him that Vlad has to say that Franco Santoro is calling. Santoyo says Vlad. No, Santoro, screams Dam.

The Elizaldes discuss the intervention of Franco Santoro in their business. Camilo continues to denounce Fer. Flor tells Barb that she has a call from Franco Santoro. Anibal wants to know what he said. Nothing, says Flor. He wants to talk to Barb. She goes to her office to take the call.

Barb answers the phone. Vlad passes it to Damian. She didn’t count on this. Did she actually think she was going to be rid of this pest so easily.

She tells him she’s been busy and wants to know what he wants. There’s been an error. Only $300 has been deposited to my account. It’s a mistake, she says, that’s been corrected. He’s ever so grateful. But, yes, Damian, it’s only $300. She calls him a rat. She gives him the heave ho and tells him that he’s going to be pursued by the Elizaldes the rest of his life.

Avances: Damian has a fit and starts to wreck Vlad’s apartment.
Fer visits Ed. She hugs him and he’s overcome with emotion.

Pasofino – thank you for the recap. You had me LOLing with some of your snarky comments. Can’t wait to watch my VCR tape of this one.

Maybe Vlad & Dam will be telenovelaland’s new Odd Couple.

Vlad’s haircut is really quite a change. Maybe he and Santi use their $15/haircut coupons at SuperCuts. Honestly, I think Vlad’s new hair is a wig. A really baaaaad wig.

Was Vlad channeling Tom Cruise up there on that sofa? yikes.

Thank you for the recap Pasofino. I fell asleep and missed the last 10 minutes. I thought for sure we were gonig to have a phone smashing. As we suspected Babs is blaming everything on Dam. What a moron. Why was Esteve supposed to come to Mexico? I just can't remember. Maybe he has the money?

Thanks for the recap Pasofino.

I think Vlad just hasn't had time to put his hair up. I'm sure if he was going out cruising, he'd slick it up. We've been wondering what Vlad does. Maybe he's a chef, appears that he did up a meal for Damian.

Ah, no phone toss Thursday, but Friday may lead off with one when Barb hangs up on Damian. Avances showed him kicking and tossing other things, must be after he tosses the phone! :) Looks like he won't be leaving the country anytime soon.

Barb sure got off easy when Damian called her in front of Nanda. Nanda should have grabbed the phone and answered it anyway. :)

Pasafino, Great recap(very funny, droll) of an eventful delicious episode. Dr.O gleefully watching Lil tear into Mrs. Ciro was delightful. There are few enough perks in his currently thankless job.

Damian and Vlad as the new odd couple was enjoyable. I look forward to Vlad's inexorable stroll toward crazy. Maybe Dr. O's next pt.?

Glad to see Esteve in Mexico. I have to admit that I've got a bit of a man-crush on Esteve. I think that he and Gardenia will make a charming couple.

Carlos

Well, Babs has shown hereself to be a less than trustwothy business partner, is seems that she doesn't appreciate Damian's efforts in helping her in this whole scheme. She only has loyalty to Cigarman No honor mong thieves.

Gotta hand it to Sendel- despite the rage, all the phones remain intact. The avances show him throwing stuff around, maybe looking for a phone.

I'm glad that Esteve showed up, I wonder if he is there just to help his buddy Eddy, or if he is going to stick around, and be woven into the plot. I'm thinking that he might have found himself a diccionary peludo in a yellow sundress, eager to cook for someone that appreciates food.

Gotta agree with Cadmil-ho about somethings he said, if not his delivery. Call the authorities about Damian. $3M missing, he's the main suspect, and is a flight risk. Tho, we know he isn't going far from Vlad's pad, unless he has saved some from his paycheck. He is broke, homeless, and really pissed. Babs is so smug and self assured- what makes her think that he won't just come back and whack her? Or even blackmail her? Unless she does intend to blow town real fast, like in 10 minutes. She is channeling Feonando, "No one is as smart as me". Yeah, right. She ain't THAT smart.

Almost forgot- thanks, Pasofino for the recap

First I got to confess:
He is so bad/badd. And I'm afraid I'm becoming addicted to these home office business meetings with Franco.
And I think I'm enjoying the confusion as to "who's crazy now" over in Vlad's apartment! Oh! so funnie!

If I had a friend come to my house and start throwing my stuff around they would be out the door! Dam is such an ungrateful little you-know-what.

Wonderful recap Pasofino. Thank you.
Thanks for confirming the money amount in Damian's account was a mere 300 dollars. Not even thousands!? I thought I was not understanding. And what was it Barb was saying about how much yearly he was worth?

Pasofino: Delightful - one of your best recaps ever. "Simple Simon", "resurrected Zsa Zsa" and "The street is apparently the private hell of anyone who has money because that’s where they end up when they have no money." Simply great.

The show is not only fast moving but is throwing in unexpected twists. I thought Damian was it in for the duration. To have him duped, peniless and perhaps worst of all, living with Vlad after only a few weeks was really surprising.

Dorado Dave, you made some excellent points. Who would have thought Cadmil-ho capable of offering sound advice, especially as I don't believe we've ever actually see him work other than to be summoned to crisis meetings which are occurring just about every day now. I think he's going to have to be careful about seeking revenge against Barb as he would also have to implicate himself. I think she's counting on his silence for that reason only.

I'm with you on Gardenia and Esteve, Carlos. There seemed to be a nice easy flow betwen the two, a great relationship starter.

Was there some time space glitch that happened in editing? Gonzo was displaying some jealousy over Barb being at the club box with somebody. As if he just found out. He already knew about her having lunch with Franco there the previous day.

I don't understand how Barb expects to dodge Damian going to the Elizalde's and telling them what Barbara has been up to - at least how much he knows.

I also am awaiting to see what happens with the money that PowerMilk is supposed to give to Barb/GrupoLactos. Would PowerMilk really give GrupoLactos the money? And, Barb asked it to go through her?? I don't think Ed would be that dumb. Something must be coming to save the day other than this money. Hmmm???

It should be an interesting episode tonight.

The Silverfox.

Can somebody refresh me on the powdered milk thing? It was at the very beginning and I just wasn't following it.

I forgot to mention, Wed's cap, when Camilo paid a visit on Erica. I think she needs to take some lessons from Gloria Gaynor, I Will Survive.

Great recap, Pasofino, and informative too.

No one does losing control better than Sendel as Damian. He tries to temper his emotions but then explodes with a nasty word or gesture or throwing or smashing. And I enjoy his facial expressions as he is trying to repress his anger. He is the houseguest from hell but Vlad is so grateful he's there to help him win his Gordita. I think the actor playing Vlad is great too...sleezy and pathetic yet slightly sympathetic as he we see him edging toward loony.

I still think Esteve is creepy. GinCA

Bonney Churros: I don't think Barbara's visit to the bank was well explained by the writers. She told Gonzo that that was where she was, but she was really on her way to the manicomio to meet with Obregon about Lili. She apparently didn't want to tell him about the encounter with Freduardo and resultant meeting. So she made up the business about trying to shore up the shortfall until Power Milk comes through. It looked like Gonzo is a bit jealous of Freduardo, thinking that's where she'd gone for the second time.

Sendel is doing a GREAT job of psychotic rage. It's too strong for even self-interest. Because he should be nicer to Vlad if he's going to have a place to live.

Obregon is definitely a favorite of mine, actingwise at least. Loved his smirk when Lili went for the Facelift Queen.

Babs plot is somewhat confusing to me. If the $3 million were to come in from Power Milk it would replace the money she presumably embezzled that was from the Chicago investment account.

Great recap, Pasofino.

Great recap, Pasofino, very funny!

As for the explanations of the money, the milk, etc., I think we're just going to have to go with the flow. None of it really adds up. If Damian didn't get the $3 million, why would he be responsible for the $3 million? Why do all the others blindly accept what Barbara tells them? Why did she act surprised twice in five minutes to find out that Damian was the one? What was Fr/Ed's private business deal with her? What happened with the expired milk, or the money for it? What money is Anibal supposed to have taken from Pris? I mean, we're all guessing, because we're assuming it's all logical. I've come to the conclusion that there really is no logic to it at all. We should just enjoy all the trickery, we guys can enjoy Martina, Gardenia, etc., and the ladies can enjoy Fr/Ed.

It's almost as bad as it was trying to make a mental map of where everything was "located" in FELS!

Last night's episode was the BEST!! OMG I loved it when La Hiena told Dam that's all he was getting and told his ass off. Can't wait for tonight's episode to see what else will happen.

Thanks Novelera. The seed of jealousy had been planted by Barb herself after her lunch with Franco so I don't think she showed honest surprise over that. Gonzo sounded like he found out she had returned to the club box. Is that what you heard?

I'm not CPA, but this is what my spreadsheet would look like:

Expenditure Source

Expired milk ($?) Prissy's
account?

Babs' embezellment GrupoLac?
($167M?)

Damian's "embezellment" GrupoLac
($3M)

I'm not sure how that will come out on the blog page. I have ignored small amount, those under $301. How is it that no one has missed the $167M that showed up in Babs' Cayman Is account. Everyone seems so upset about a paltry $3M having disappeared. Anyone, please feel free to correct my analysis, and of course, comment.

Bonney, I don't remember Babs telling Gonzo beforehand where she was going to be for those hours, only after the fact. That doesn't mean she didn't; just that I don't remember it. And I thought she told the jealous Gonzo last night that she had been to the actual bank. I don't remember her saying she had been at that racetrack club where she had lunch with Freduardo.

These comments after the recaps sometimes remind me of conversations I have with friends who are, like me, not exactly spring chickens. We're sometimes struggling for a word - a character in a novel, a famous actor, and it's gone from the brain cells. But someone else comes up with it. I'm part of a group that regularly gets together one Friday night a month for dinner. We say that between us we have a whole memory!

Connie asked: "Can somebody refresh me on the powdered milk thing? It was at the very beginning and I just wasn't following it."

All I remember was that Anibal bought some powdered milk that was going to enable them to fill all of their orders (I guess they had more orders than they could fill otherwise, or maybe they had a shot at one really huge order). Pris's family had been offered the powdered milk too and Anibal was very happy to have gotten it instead of them. However, the milk was expired. (I don't think Pris's family knew it was expired.)

Babs gloated to DeepThroat that Anibal and/or Gonzo (I don't remember which) would go to jail if the authorities caught them using expired milk. DeepThroat didn't want that; he felt that jail was too good for them; he wanted the whole family destroyed.

Babs said if they didn't get caught, they'd make a lot of money using the powdered milk to fill all those orders. DeepThroat didn't want that either, so Babs had the company bury all of the powdered milk.

As to how she convinced them to do that, I'm not sure but I think she leaked a rumor about it... I remember Pris's brother was asking Pris about it and he sounded angry. I guess that made it seem more urgent to destroy the evidence.

Anyway, so whatever money Anibal spent on the powdered milk was lost. They then had to buy additional, good milk from someone else in order to fill their orders and I suppose that cost a lot more money and they probably ended up taking a loss on the deal.

So. Muy expensive mistake on Anibal's part to ever buy expired milk. Since they never ended up using it, I don't think they can get in trouble for buying it; it's probably a dead issue. But the fact that it hurt the company so much financially is pretty big.

I don't like Vlad's hair like that. It's better when he greases it back so it's not in his face. I guess I like his forehead.

Soon he will also need sunglasses to hide the increasingly crazy gleam in his eyes. It's just a matter of time before he starts foaming at the mouth too.

That's it Novelera, she was surprised by Gonzo's accusation that she had been at the club. ...I think that I understood he was accusing her of that.
Not only issues with my memory but NOW is when I decide to learn Spainish!?

Thanks Julie. I remember it now. Nothing really came of it so I guess that is why I didn't remember. It didn't seem significant.

Hee Hee, fine and funny recap Pasofino! Gracias! Just a few petty, silly observations: loved the poor, distraught Ursula inelegantly tripping into the elevator as the classy bitch strutted out. Hee hee! And I don't know why Esteve has to constantly remind us he is a gringo: his red hair is a hint and he's got the accent nailed down tight!

Vlad and Dam were funny! What a hilarious touch, Dam wanting cookies! Awww, as I heard it said back in the 60s, "Even revolutionaries like chocolate chip cookies!"

Welcome hone, Santi!

And esta noche! Damn rips the shit outta the apartment - the closest we'll get to cell phone assault. AND, Girls, did you see that expression of "I want Fer and I to melt into each other's arms . . .", that helpless, heavy-lidded swoon my man did when Fer fell into his arms!!! Ayyyyy! Gawd I luuuuv it!

Khalilah

Pasofino, that was a top notch recap of a great episode.
Vlad was indeed having a Tom Cruise moment on the couch, or at least that's what I said to hubby.

There does seem to be some instant chemistry with Esteve and Gardenia. Maybe she could turn her interest there and back off of Fr/Ed for a while.

Obregon and Vlad are both very satisfying in their supporting roles. They're making the most of their moments on screen.
Julie, your comments on Vlad were so true. He and Damian are both headed down that psychotic slippery slope. Maybe there can be a teeter-totter effect, where Lili moves toward sanity and they go off the deep end to crazy.
La Paloma

Thanks for the recap Pasofino. Your comments are quite funny.

Wow, I love how this novela is moving. Though there are sometimes gaps in logic, we're having a great ride.

Thanks Pasofino. For some reason, my recording didn't get the end with Barbara telling off Damian and him wrecking the apartment. Sure hope they repeat that scene tonight. Love your comments and your writing style. Gracias.

Well, my summary of the powdered milk saga is based on a combination of memories of recaps whatever I've seen. The weak spot there is the word "memory," so some of the details may be wrong... the main point is that it was a very expensive mistake.

With La Paloma's observation that Damian and Vlad are getting crazier while Lili gets saner, I have to wonder if someone in this story won't end up as a patient at Miraflores. Perhaps Babs or even Dr. O himself!

Oh yeah, what is up with them running so late on Thursdays? The start/end times have always (for the last three years, anyway) been a little unpredictable on Univision, but last night seemed extra-bad.

And I especially don't want to wait through last few minutes of a Cuidado episode when it's a Land-of-Make-Believe scene. I keep thinking the kid's going to get bit by a Teletubby or baked into a gingerbread house.

I agree Julie. What is up with that land of make believe anyway?

Can anyone stand 'Cuidado"? When it ends late, I'm stuck with watching the last couple minutes- pee-yeew. Motormouth Marichuy took a good tumble last night during MEPS' time slot...I checked the time on my cell phone when MEPS finally ended. Eight full minutes after 10...

Dave: I like your spreadsheet. You took the words out of my mouth.

Hombre: You're right. We never did get an explanation as to what happened with the expired powdered milk or how that loss fits in with the rest of Grupo Lacto's financial woes.

Novelers: Mabe Gonzo is having Barb followed or maybe he has a mole at the club.

Julie: Your memory is better than mine. Also, I would have liked to listen to Barb's conversation with Damian again, but, it did not record because of the timing. Mayita eaten by a Teletubby. Indeed.

Vlad's Hair: There must be some significance to his 'dos. He's got the greased up look and then the absolutely no grease at all look. Could we be going somewhere with this?

Maybe he should just shave his hair off! Although on second thought only some me look good bald!

Regarding the bad milk, could Anibal have thought it was going to be a great profit deal and that is what he did with Pris' money?

Maybe he thought he would make a big profit then put her money back.

That makes sense Molly. I don't think they ever said where the money came from.

By the way Connie, that profile picture is hot! I had it as the wallpaper on my cell phone for awhile and my daughter pitched a fit. But all my girlfriends loved it!

I think Damian probably did get all of his 3 million. What he didn't realize is that there would be deductions for... er... er... for services rendered. :-)

Yes... Barb is the world's highest paid hooker. LOL

JeffMN

I'm thinking that this is the time that Televisa realized how popular MEPS was & added a few chapters. Don't remember who, where or why, but the story was that Damian skipped so quickly to go to the aid of his mother. But here is mom looking plastered but otherwise ok.

And Barb had the meeting with Fr/Ed at the club, Gonzo didn't like it but Barb of course turned on her charm. Now we hear about another encounter at the club????
When did that come up, Babs went to see Lili & Fr/Ed met her at Miraflores. So how does the club get into this a 2nd time & Gonzo's jealousy.

As someone said, don't question, go with the flow & apparently logic doesn't enter into it.

That said, Camilo & Anibal blasting Fernanda for her choice of esposos, didn't Damian work for GL & that's where Fernanda met him or is that just an incorrect assumption on my part?

Loved the way Fr/Ed told Babs he wanted to do business with her because she was an intelligent woman & when she asked, why not Anibal, the answer was the same, an underhanded swipe at Anibal at least for Babs benefit.

variopinta

And I agree, the start/end time of this episode was simply unbelievable. When I switched over it was on the last commercial before the end of Cuidado, should have been on that last segment already. And as noted, like 8-9 minutes after when it ended. Maybe the Asesinas isn't getting enough viewers so they are trying to start it so late you just won't want to switch to another channel?

JeffMN

I just love every scene with Esteve, for strictly lazy reasons. His gringo accent is super-slow and super-clear, so I can understand every word; I don't have to work at it. It's amusing, what simple words he doesn't know, vs. what obscure words he does know. Also nobody slows down or simplifies their speech for him, which is the natural reaction (in most poeple) when someone is obviously struggling with the language.

Babs comment to Damian was about a rat coming out of it's hole (madriguera), that Babs is charming.

Variopinta, I think the story that Dam went to help his mother was the story/lie that Barb told him she would use to account for his disappearance. That was just a lie she told him, but when Barb was asked if she knew where Damian was, she said she didn't know where he was and skipped the lie she told him she would use.

As to being at the club again, I think that was just a lie Barb told Gonzo to account for her whereabouts as they were looking for her.

In other thoughts, hmm, I wonder if ESteve will be set up with Gardenia. I think they were both a little smitten with each other. Of course, Denia still hasn't seen Fr/Ed pumping the iron yet.

JeffMN

Julie: "I have to wonder if someone in this story won't end up as a patient at Miraflores. Perhaps Babs or even Dr. O himself!" Ohhh, it would be just precious if they put Babs in there under the charge of Dr. O! Now that would be a great end for her!!

JeffMN

Yes, there seemed to be a problem with the continuity, even more so that usual. Didn't Babs tell Gonzo that she had been meeting with "los banqueros" in order to get some cash for the company to account for the time she was at Franco's pad? Then he accuses her of being at the club, which shouldn't have confused even him, because he ok'd that meeting. So something is goofy.
I believe that Babs hired Damian with the intention of hooking Fernanda with him as part of he plan. Whether he was in on it from day 1, I don't know.
Thinking back, the expired milk happened about the time that the Chicago money was being moved, but that was Lactos' money, right? So Prissy's money was in a MIami bank, so where did that go? I had been thinking that Any?balls used that for the spilled milk deal. Someone asked what happened to that milk- it was buried somewhere
Here is a question- is Babs' position HR? If so, why does she have access to the financial codes?

I think that to make better sense, or keep track of this, I'd need to take notes, but that is spending WAY too much time/effort on this passtime...

I thought Esteve seemed familiar. I just saw Like Water for Chocolate the other night. He is Doctor John and has perfect English. He has kind of light brown hair in that, a much better look. He was very good.

Tks for the refresher JeffMN

I think Esteve will be around a long time, in the cast of characters, he is listed after Aurora & before Jacinto, before Jacinto??, that's an important role.

Authorities???
Camilo might have had one good idea, but in novela land that never happens. How else can our hero solve the crime? And then we have the authorities.

Tks for the refresher JeffMN

Here's my spreadsheet:

Expired milk ($?) Prissy's
account?

Babs' embezellment GrupoLac?
($167M?)

Damian's "embezellment" GrupoLac
($3M)

Any scene with a shirtless FrEd
(Priceless!)

For those suspending logic in watching this telenovela, I have to also have to add this to the list of "suspended reality".

When Ed/Fr is with Babs, I have to remember that Babs is at least 10 years older, more likely 15 years older, and maybe 20 years older than Ed/Fr in telenovela years - ha.... (She was at a minimum 20 years old - but probably older - when he was 10.)

The Fox...

Fox: That's another good point. The producers think we don't notice because we're blinded by love and devotion for Fernando.

I wondering if the 3mil & the 167mil
are Mex dólores or U.S. dollars. Makes a huge difference since Mex dólores are about 1/10 of U.S.

I have just blocked out of my mind that Fr/Ed is supposed to be 27 & Babs 10 o 15 years older.

Big corporate money is usually discussed in terms of US dollars (much to my confusion when I started watching these things!).

There are no Mexican dolares that I am aware of. They are pesos. The symbol is the same as a dollar sign, but they always call them pesos, not dolares.

When working out Bab's age, don't forget that she also has to be old enough to be Aurora's mother. I don't remember exactly how old Aurora is, but they did say her date of birth including year when they were looking her up at her old school. I think they said 1984 but I'm not 100% sure of that??

If we assume that Babs was really young when she had Aurora, like say 15, that would put her around 39 at a minimum. So she'd have been about 24 when she became Gonzo's assistant. That seems about right.

Julie, I think your computations on Barbi's age are about right.

Khalilah had mentioned Barb strutting out of the elevator just as mami Ursula was staggering into it. If she were a person of any compassion, she would have noticed the older woman and given her some type of greeting/respect. Needless to say, Barbi is not a person of any compassion.
La Paloma

Is there any logical explanation as to why everyone knows about the 3mil, but no one is questioning the 167mil that Barb transfered to her acct?

Variopinta: No - they are all fixated on the $3 million. It's more of Barb's machinations.

The amount of money that Barb wired out of the Lactos account was from my memory, something greater than $167 Million. I think I remember something in the neighborhood of $350 Million.

The currency that we were reading was an on-line screen of her Cayman Islands account. The number would be in a denomination of whatever currency is used in the Cayman Islands.

From

http://www.caymanislands.ky/general_information/financial_services.aspx

"The Cayman Islands has its own currency, first issued in 1972, whose basic unit is the dollar, issued in notes with denominations of CI$100, 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 and coins valued at 25 cents, 10, 5 and 1 cent. The CI dollar has a fixed exchange rate with the US dollar of CI$1.00 equals US$1.25. Or, the US dollar equals CI $.80."

Anyways, it's a bunch of money.

The Fox....

I think the 167 mil? came from the Chicago acct, so if they still had that money, then why would they think they are broke, even though we know they are? Scratching head in confusion?

Is this where I'm supposed to adjust my beanie?

Variopinta - yes. Use the chin strap if necessary. ;-)

I wonder if anyone thought to delete Damian's password, even though we know he's not the culprit, another beanie adjustment, chin strap, pulled tightly.

I ask again. Does anyone know when Univision might start transmitting MEPS in HD. Mexico City reportedly is.
