MEPS Monday July 27 - for real this time
Edit - sorry for the delay, here it is - and wow 18 comments already without even putting the recap up!
Over some botanas, Venus tells Martina that the man she would really like to be with is ‘el grino’ Esteve. She’s worried, though, that such a fine man wouldn’t go for a girl like her. Such a fine man who likes to play with others lives like the Wizard of Oz, but I guess that doesn’t count.
Esteve in his old man pajamas in bed reading, he puts the book down to daydream about Venus for a few minutes before turning the light off and going to sleep. I guess it’s pretty much a given now that these two will end up together. And then have to explain to everyone that he isn’t really her uncle, because that is super creepy.
Anibal tells Camilo that he’s going to have to marry Venus, which Camilo doesn’t like the sound of. Fr/Ed walks over and lays it on thick about Esteve being willing to pull the plug, to really put the pressure on Camilo. Camilo has no choice. Fernanda comes up and she and Fr/Ed do their usual “make up some excuse to go talk privately” bit and excuse themselves. Anibal tells Camilo to suck it up and marry the girl, there is no way out of it. Priscilla asks Anibal where Fr/Ed and Fernanda went, he tells her they are in the library, her radar goes off and she goes to try and listen at the door before giving up and going upstairs, feeling guilty about spying on her friend/honorary sister.
Fr/Ed tells Fernanda that he is sure La Hiena is behind the whole Lily thing. He says what Barbara doesn’t know yet is that Fr/Ed is going to be there with her at the ransom drop. I don’t know if he’s going to force his way along with her, or sneak around to be there without her knowing, or what.
On the phone, Barbara gives Obregon instructions to make sure he gets the money that she leaves for him. Obregon asks if Lily is going to actually be there, Barb tells him to shut up and just do what he’s told. Gonzalo comes in, also wearing old man pajamas but at least he’s an old man (I’m looking at you Esteve), he wants to go with Barbara to drop the ransom. No, Obregon told me to come alone, etc etc. We’ve heard it all before.
Fernanda is giving Fr/Ed a kind of dreamy look, I think she’s starting to think she can get out of this whole Damian situation since he basically told her yesterday that if she leaves, she leaves for good, and she left. He of course is acting like a damn five year old and misses it completely. I don’t know how, if she looked at me like that I’d surely notice, hubba hubba! She is going to say something obviously personal, he kills the mood by asking her to be the madrina for his wedding with Erika. He also misses her reaction here, he is very unobservant sometimes. She sarcastically accepts, they both manage to get even more pissy because they each expect the other one to crack first, Fr/Ed stomps out and slams the door. Oh you kids.
Priscilla is in bed waiting for Anibal, she tells him she has a surprise for him. He immediately says he’s tired, working hard, all that. What an ass. She says no she’s not asking him to perform his husbandly duties, she got a test to determine the sex of the baby, they are having a boy. He says ok and rolls over. They get in a fight, she says the baby is hers and only hers because he won’t get invested in the whole thing.
Camilo goes to the love shack, no Loavely (that still cracks me up). I wondered this before, when she left. How will she explain new clothes, or where she was? Venus enters right after him, ooops busted. He goes ballistic, where was she, who was she screwing (basically what he was saying), after all her talk of being so virginal.
Damian is asleep in the bed, Fernanda is in her age appropriate pajamas, deciding if she should get in bed or not. Finally she sneaks in one inch at a time, it’s kind of funny if you don’t think about how scared and nervous she is at that moment. She lays down and sighs, she got away with it. Then Damian’s hand touches her arm. Oops, guess who’s awake. Seems like his ‘you leave now you leave forever’ speech was just drunk talk. He’s still ready for his noche de bodas.
Camilo rants and raves, she finally comes up with a story that she went to see Esteve to tell him that he’s not being fair about her having to get married. By taking his side, Camilo is calmed, but only slightly.
As usual, Fernanda uses an excuse to not get busy with Damian. He is very nice to her about it, but now we know it’s all an act. She’s worried about Lily, etc etc, the first time has to be without outside pressures. Well of course as grownups we all know that will happen the same time pigs fly. So, sorry Damian, never going to happen. A phone rings. We are made to think it’s Fernanda’s, and that it’s going to be Fr/Ed or something, and I’m ready for a classic Sendel tantrum complete with thrown items, but it turns out to be HIS phone that rang. It’s his mom. Fernanda, anxious for anything to interrupt the impending coitus, says to answer it, it must be important to call at this hour!
Loavely’s story worked, she even dials the phone to call Esteve to protest some more, Camilo grabs it and hangs it up, he doesn’t want more trouble with Esteve. She got away with it!
Damian’s mom is her usual whiny self on the phone, I guess she owes some money to some family member (cousin?) who died, now the husband is after her for the money. I didn’t quite understand why this was a middle of the night phone call type of problem, maybe the guy is violent or something. Perhaps a reader can clarify this part for the rest of us. Damian apparently agrees that it’s a serious problem, he says he’ll take care of it tomorrow and gets off the phone. He tells Fernanda that he wants more booze so he can sleep, she says how about some warm milk and honey? He realizes he won’t win this battle so he says whatever and Fernanda runs off, happy to not be in his ‘noche de bodas’ targeting reticule for one more night.
Santiago daydreams about Aurora, all the times she assured him that he was the only man she loved. Barbara comes in and acts concerned and wants to help him find her. She changes her story, now she says that Aurora didn’t seem to have gone willingly. Santiago wants to know why she didn’t do anything, Barb whines that it all happened so fast! Her story has so many holes in it but Santiago is desperate to find her so he just accepts her story and help.
Aurora cries in her bed.
Barbara continues her story about the older man who took Aurora. She does her awful irritating make me want to scream whimpering crying thing she does, begs forgiveness, and swears to help Santiago find Aurora.
The next day (finally) –
Fr/Ed works out with no shirt on, flexes in the mirror, and I once again hear squeals of glee from all across the country. I realize this scene was supposed to be eye candy, but I have to tell you that working out with no shirt is so gross, you would get sweat all over the equipment. I guarantee Colunga never works out with no shirt. But whatever, I hope you all enjoyed the peep show!
Gardenia does more voodoo love potion stuff, spraying the living daylights out of a jacket, which she presents to Fr/Ed as he comes in from his workout as his outfit for the day. Fr/Ed says thank you, but no, he doesn’t feel like wearing that color today. She offers to get something else ready for him, he says no it’s ok he’ll do it. Stymied, Gardenia leaves the room. She’s nuts.
Camilo slept on the sofa, Loavely comes into the living room and opens the blinds. She is wearing some tight white pants that look incredible on her, I’m glad for the equal time eye candy for the male viewers. Very sexy. She does her whiny “camiii” voice and wakes him up. She says they need to go see Esteve, he wants to go home and clean up first. She teases him and gets him all horny so he’ll hurry up. He also can’t resist the tight pants and runs out the door.
At Prolasa, Priscilla’s brother welcomes a couple of workers from INEGI, they are doing some economic census and have some questions. This must be a public service thing, it has nothing to do with the story at all. Speaking of Priscilla’s brother – where have we seen him before? I remember him from some other show, playing a not so clean and nice character I think. Anyone remember? Also, I cracked up at this scene. These INEGI workers are doing a census, they found the head of the company to talk to, and then the very first question is “what’s the name of your company?” like they wandered in by accident. I guess they wanted the official name, but it sounded different.
Fr/Ed very casually arranges 3 million dollars in a duffel bag, like he’s packing a gym bag. Please Fr/Ed drop one of those bundles on my front step PLEASE. Esteve is wearing the worst outfit ever, some khaki/green monstrosity with a garish orange sweater tied around his neck, he looks awful. Venus calls him to say today they’ll formalize the wedding plans and they’ll be over soon, Esteve curtly says “ok see you then” and hangs up. Venus, in true female fashion (sorry ladies but it’s true) overanalyzes this to mean that Esteve doesn’t care about her and wouldn’t go for a woman like her.
The INEGI workers leave and put a sticker on the outside of the office door. I guess that means that this company has been counted or something. I wish I understood this whole thing better.
Santiago tells Fernanda what Barbara said, Fer thinks it’s so convenient that Barbara was the only one here, AGAIN the only one to see things, get a phone call, what have you. Santiago says the guy that took her is the guy that looks like a clone of Gonzalo.
Lily isn’t eating, Bravo isn’t happy about it. Ciro’s ghost tells Lily to eat something. He agrees that Bravo looks just like Gonzalo.
Santiago talks about Bravo (though he doesn’t know his name) some more to Fernanda. He believes Dominga sold Aurora to him.
Aurora makes her bed, then runs out of the room with her hand over her mouth. Somebody’s pregnant!
Bravo wants Lily to eat since she’s going to be here for a while. Lily tells him that the only one who can save her is Eduardo Juarez, and he’s not scared of you!
Tomorrow – Priscilla thinks she sees Fernanda and Fr/Ed up to no good in the stable, though I’m sure it is them just acting childish towards each other again.

Surely Esteve will not allow a marriage between Venus and the horse's patoot, Camilo.
Isn't there a guest room in that big house for Damián? Nanda can't be resting too well with a boar in rut sleeping next to her.
Carlos
So Lili and Fr/Ed may turn out to be half-brothers.... no wonder... there seems to be a bond there. Fr/Ed has always been very protective of her.
MEPS in AZ
Till death do we part does not require one to sleep with a brutish jerk that screams at you at the same time mocking you and demanding sex. That is what I consider domestic abuse. If meeting the 'needs' of one's mate include anything like the behavior of Damian then admit defeat. I say legal separation till death do we part.
Carlos - I think you're on to something with that revised geneaology of Lil's and FrEd's. I, too, have started to wonder about all that. It might explain the inexplicable bond between Lil and FrEd, too. Nobody in MEPS-land seems to question a perfect stranger's (FrEd's) dedication to saving Lili.
However, if Ana Gregoria brought a dark spell back to town with her, wouldn't the locals know she was Soledad? Ooops,,,,I'm thinking too much again.
bonney churros - ummm . . . yes, ITA about the baby oil but heck, we beggars can't be choosy. ;-) It's about time we had eye candy .... er .... a work-out scene.
So your theory makes Eduardo, Lili & Aurora half siblings. That Artemio got around. I'm wondering about the picture of Ed's dad that Soledad had, surely someone would recognize him if he is in our cast of characters.
Artemio + Babs = Aurora
Artemio + Soledad = Eduardo
Artemio + Monserrat = Liliana
We now know that Esteve & Venus feel for each other. TG Venus didn't go for Camilo. Was a little surprised to find him on the couch, knowing what he is capable of.
Real men can wear pink. We sure got our treat tonight, I thought that was sweat, when he was pumping iron.
Santiago's mind is beginning to work about Artemio. If only everyone would compare notes.
Yay for home gyms! He should have showered when he was done however!
Santiago is likely adopted.
It's starting to look like Gonzalo and Monserrat have only 3 children together: Anibal, Camilo and Fernanda.
If Artemio is not Aurora's dad, why was he so upset when he thought she was killed in the fire?
If Artemio is Liliana's dad, why did he let Babs send her to the casa loca?
Nanda needs to send Dam to a nursing home where they can heavily medicate him. I would sleep in the bath tub with the door locked before I would crawl into bed that science project gone wrong.

engatusar... to coax or sweet talk
Carlos
Still thinking
Soledad knows Artemio's secreto, & she knows sth about Babs, so Babs had her banished from the Elizalde house to make it easier to latch onto Gonzalo. She also knew that Babs killed Monserrat. But Artemio didn't want her killed.
Artemio wants Eduardo dead because Soledad might have told him the secreto. And Eduardo might have told Padre Bosco, so at one time Artemio wanted him dead too.
Could be that Eduardo is Artemio's son but Art doesn't know it.
I know I didn't solve a thing.
le valgo gorro & gringo was in there somewhere. Wondering if that could mean sth like setting your cap for (Esteve)?
Things have gone horribly wrong for both Dam and Vladi since they parted. I miss their bantering (or in Dam's case psychotic yelling) and their palpable chemistry. I'm a little concerned as we haven't seen Vladi since he collapsed in tears after Pris' visit. Hope he's OK...
Last night's highlight for me was Esteve dreaming of Lovely. I like them together.

just
so
fine.
OK, I'm lost. Based on a few comments, I guess I did not get ANY of the dialogue that suggested more mixed up DNA. Ayudeme!
Nanda's jammies were certainly not going to protect her from Dam's "Rico Suave" moves. I agree...sleep somewhere else!!!
Too many fake marriages going on here. Dam/Nanda, Fr-Ed/Err, now LoVenus/NaranHo...oh, come on, give me a break.

I think Artemio was in love with Montserrat. He had her killed because she rejected him for Gonzo. Liliana might be their child, but Artie might not know this.
Likewise, Eduardo could be the child of Soledad and Artemio, but again, Artemio might not know it (I think Variopinta said that).
Now what about Aurora? We know Artemio was supporting her, and why would he support Barbara's daughter unless he, himself was closely involved. BTW, I think he currently still thinks she died in the explosion at the cantina.
To summarize, I agree that Artemio could be the father of all 3 (Eduardo, Lili and Aurora), but might only know about Aurora.
As for the picture of Eddie's father, that could just be the guy Soledad was married to at the time (and maybe she was raped by Artemio!), but didn't tell anyone, and everyone thought the guy in the picture was the father.
One bright spot is that Fr/Ed said he's going to trap Barb by going with her to deliver the ransom, right? Can this actually work?(none of his previous plans did).
"Stymied, Gardenia leaves the room. She’s nuts." LOL yes she is and thank you for saying it so succinctly!
This still doesn't explain Aurora. Is Arte is her dad, then the same ewww-cousins thing applies to her and Santi. No way, esp if she's now with child.
Where's my advil?
Kel
As for the other family tree issues, I will just wait to see what happens and what clues emerge. Because if Aurora is Artemio's child, then she and Santi have had incestuous relations and are now likely having a baby, and I just don't think the telenovela folks would ever approve that story. Whatever happens, those two can't be related!

I totally agree, Esteve's outfit with the glowing orange sweater was one of the worst- ever. Tying the sweater around his neck was another mistake. Someone needs to tell him and Fr/Ed that look isn't (and was never) a good fashion statement.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the ransom money. It's too soon for Barbie's total downfall but a small victory for team Fr/Ed would be most welcome about now.
Big surprise was Lili's statement about Eduardo to Artie. I hope Ciro's ghost knows what he's doing.

That's gross. I don't think that Camilo actually did anything with Aurora so the morning sickness is most likely Santiago's.
So IMO, Santiago is NOT Gonzalo's child. And since he mentioned to Aurora the earliest picture of him is when he was 6 months old and he's also mentioned that he's never felt close to any of his siblings except Fernanda, I think Santiago is adopted:
Either Monserrat was pregnant, lost the baby, adopted Santiago and passed him off as Gonzalo's child
or
Everyone knows Santiago is adopted except Fernanda, Santiago (and Barbara). Fernanda may have been too young to know about his adoption.
Also, Anon 2:18, you don't think Camilo did anything with Aurora - was that theory bounced around on a day I didn't catch up with the comments? I guess that's possible, since they didn't actually show Camilo doing more than take her pants off, but I figured they just weren't going to show a rape. I suppose it would make it easier to wrap everything up later if he didn't do anything with her, but I'm not totally convinced. There seem to be a LOT of loose ends to keep track of right now.
Arty+Monte= Any?balls
Arty+Babs= Abora
PapaElizalde+AGBravo= Arty
Gonzo+Monte= Cad and Fer, Santi might be adopted
Soledad+?= Eddy
That's what I see for now, anyway.
Sweltering in all-time record heat wave, glad I installed that mini-split heat pump last month...
I also couldn't figure out where I saw the young guy who Vlad and Damian framed for the spying and then finally remembered he was one of the sons on Heridas de Amor.
Eeeww! I hope Abora is not having Cami's baby! Too gross!
About Esteve...I don't think he's playing with anyones'lives except for those who deserve it. I think he's just manipulating Cami for "the cause" -- although that's gotten a little blurred lately.
Carlos, I thought of you when I ate an ear of local corn last night. OMG! You're going to have us all down for a corn roast come harvest time, right?
The other possibility is if Bravo is related to them and is Eduardo's father.
If Bravo isn't related to the Elizaldes, which I think he HAS to be to be Gonzalo's clone, we'd have no issues.
An ex-lawyer friend raised Catholic tells me that the only way Fer can get out of this mess with Scumian legally is with an anulment; otherwise, she can never get married to anyone in a Catholic church. So let's start listening for the word "anulacion".
Dona Gringuita
I'd rather see Colunga with long hair flowing in the breeze, hanging on to a ship with shirt half open than those contrived, greasy workout scenes.
I enjoy all this speculation about the families. It will definitely be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
I'm happy it looks like eSteve and Venus will get together.
rsk
OK, if you saw someone, mafia connected or not, who looked EXACTLY like your father except for the hair color, would you not approach dear old dad and ask about this? Santiago apparently doesn't feel the need.
It seems to me easier to suppose that Artemio is NOT Aurora's father but he cares about her for some other reason than to doubt the paternity of Santiago to evade incest. Right now, until proven otherwise, I believe all the Elizalde kids are Gonzalo and Monserrat's.
Of course, we don't know who Eduardo's father is and, if he is Artemio, then this puts the two main characters in too close a blood proximity. I've seen at least four TN's where the older man villain turns out to be the father of the main galan, even though they hate each other all the way through and each don't know it.
I think there may be more to Damian's mother's situation. It was pretty hard to understand; I listened several times. Somehow, I got the impression that whatever threat there was could have been something that Damn had done and that his mamá was warning him. After all, I doubt he was a paloma blanca until he hooked up with Babs for the scam.
Carlos
One thing is that Lili & Eduardo have a sibling type of love, she is not enamored with him as the rest of us are. So I think there is a blood relation there.
I have a feeling that this big secret will be a terrible letdown.
At least one source that I found says that marriage between cousins is legal in Mexico. But I don't know how accurate it is because it is just a web site.
I really can't recall whether I've ever seen a cousin marriage in a telenovela.
Cristina CO
There's no reason for Fer to be sharing her bedroom (and bed) with demon Damian. He needs room for his wounded leg; she needs peace and privacy.
I had to smile, though. Dam was ready for his honeymoon and all he got was warm milk with honey. Not quite the same thing.
La Paloma
Fer's pajamas would be perfect for an all-girl pajama party. Damian probably didn't notice because in Novelaland it's supposed to be dark even though the lights are always on.
Pris and Anibal: I don't know how Pris can stand him. The man is totally despicable. She should see more of Vlad because he's attentive, generous (even though he doesn't have a lot of money), thoughtful, completely in love with her, and just a little obsessive compulsive. If there is such a thing.
Steve: You'r right. He looked awful. He has been painted white with red hair so that we don't mistake him for anything other than a Boston gringo. Just looking at him scares me. Orange sweater and orange hair - at least they matched.
In the library.
With a candlestick.
And Aurora was hatched.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
;-)

P.D. Thanks for an excellent recap.
--El Pelón
Overly gelled hair - along with the orange skin and kissy lips, a douchebag trait.
Am I alone wishing that Loafly would talk like Venus does when she talks to Martina, or Esteve, Or Eddy? I am glad that the writers are starting to pair Venus and Esteve. I don't care that the only gringo gets the reformed hooker, she's a good person.
My prediction is that Franco follows Babs, sees that she just goes thru the motions of making the drop. Fer gets the secret account # from Dam, and they are able to trace show the deposit, proving that Babs set it all up. Babs has to whack Dam for the double cross, but now she's on the lam, cause she's been found out. She runs up to the forgotten weekend hacienda to hole up. Marcario has crawled up the barranca, and drags himself to find Babs sipping cognaq, but doesn't know what to do next. He can't call anyone, because she never got the bills from him the day that she gave him the free boot ride. I haven't worked out any more than that. That should take us thru about 3 wardrobe changes, or about 8/15.
About the first cousins marrying comment. My understanding is that it's not just a matter of legality, but marrying that close in the family tree can produce birth defects. I'm in no way comparing humans to animals, but this is what happens when you breed only with the same species, you pass on their medical conditions. First cousins are not far enough removed genetically. In addition to the medical history of my immediate biological family, my doctor thought it was significant that 2 cousins who died of breast cancer. That put me at higher risk. 2 first cousins are passing on to their children a double dose of whatever grandma had. Some diseases are known to skip a generation (I think diabetes is one). If someone disagrees with me I won't be offended. I'm not a medical person.
Sure hoping Fr/Ed is able to win one over Barbwire tonight, but I'm not optimistic. Telerisa loves delayed gratification. We gotta wait for the last week for any villain to get theirs (with, of course, the exception of Jairo).
I believe the ambiguity about Camilo maybe or maybe not raping Aurora is so that we're in the same shoes as everyone else - even Aurora. Only Camilo knows what really happened. Which is causing me to lean towards thinking that he didn't do it, and all that huffing and puffing afterwards was just for show. I mean, he makes those disgusting noises even when practically nothing is happening...
On the bright side, it's way too soon for Aurora to have pregnancy symptoms with Camilo's kid, so we can be absolutely sure that it's Santi's. Which seems to be the only thing I feel sure of these days!
And yes, I did enjoy the peep show. Oil during a workout - brilliant. You wouldn't want to get too good a grip on those heavy weights that could easily slip out of your hand.
That would make Aurora and Santiago, half-first cousins. They would share only one grandparent out of four grandparents.
So, there is no incest (at least in most of - if not all - of the United States). Not sure about Mexico.
Silverfox
Fact: Children of non-related couples have a 2-3% risk of birth defects, as opposed to first cousins having a 4-6% risk.
