ENDA Tuesday November 3. How do you solve a problem like Paloma?

Overlap: Romina tells Camila that her dreamboat Emiliano is being a total meanie and demanding a paternity test, even though she totally crossed her heart and hoped-to-die-swore that the baby is his. Is there no trust in the world anymore? Camila isn’t convinced there isn’t a fire under all that smoke, and further can’t understand why Romi wants to marry a guy who so clearly doesn’t want to be with her. Romememena says she agreed to the test and she’ll marry Emo; that’s that.

Romina summons Paloma and rants at her for not joining the Emo+Ro4eva campaign. She demands to know whether Paloma is the one who told Emo the baby might belong to Germán.

New: Orlando whines to Padre Juan/Cristóbal over being dumped by Camila. His blood is boiling thinking of her getting together with that rat punk Rafael. PJC says Rafael is a decent man, and as another man once said, you can’t always get what you want. Natalia sees them and stops to talk. Orlando remembers her from days past and says she hasn’t aged at all.

Romina asks how Emiliano could possibly have had doubts if Paloma didn’t put them in his head. “Only about everyone in town saw you with Germy,” says Paloma. Romi begs forgiveness for thinking Paloma could be such a traitor. She knows her very bestest friend Pal would never ever try to separate her baby from its father. She snuffles on Paloma’s shoulder and Pal looks deeply perturbed.

Orlando leaves and Natalia tells PJC she thinks he should tell Paloma about his history with Macarena. He is reluctant and tells Nat that he had planned to leave the priesthood and marry Mac.

Germs and Doc Rodolfo are on the horn discussing the paternity tests. But really Rodolfo wants Germy to let him see Javier’s will. Germs says he can’t let anyone see it. Rodolfo (still playing the grieving widower of Mac, even though she wasn’t going to marry him) says he only wants to look at it for a minute, then he will put it back and no one will ever have to know that he saw it…or about the paternity test Germy wants and why, hint hint.

Cami and Paloma talk about how much they miss Mac. Paloma asks Cami if she knows the name of the man Mac was in love with. It is really really important. Cami says she can’t tell her.

Nat strolls down a pretty street and cries because Cris loved Mac so much more than he loved her.

Orlando goes to Diana’s house and growls at her to give Rafael a message: Stay away from what he wants most, or else. He refuses to clarify. Diana is muy confundida.

Over at the fútbol field, Chava is hassled by one of his lowlife buddies for not joining them in their drinking-to-oblivion fun and games. On the sidelines, PJC and Emiliano watch and wonder what to do. PJC asks whether Emo knows anything about Iñaki’s investigation of Paloma’s inheritance. He does not.

Cami asks Rufi why Paloma is so curious about Mac’s old flame.

Camila calls Rafa with the message. She assumes what Rafa cares about most must be Emiliano, but that can’t be what Orlando meant, so who is it?

Rufi has learned absolutely nothing. She tells Carlota that Paloma is trying to figure out who her father is. What if she tells Cris that Mac was her mother, not her aunt?! By golly, if that happened they might figure things out! Carlota thinks hard.

Paloma works on a drawing of a tree. Carlota stalks up and says she is not only going to tell her who her father is, she will take her to see him. I’m guessing she fingers some dude in a mental institution who won’t be able to protest. She’d probably go with Rafael if she thought she could get away with that.

Camila tells Emiliano she’s totally offended that he wants a paternity test and wants to know why. He couches his reasons in the most vague and diplomatic terms possible. She says she doesn’t support coerced marriage, but she doesn’t like being humiliated either, and by the way the test poses some risk to both the baby and Romina. He did not know that.

Cruel goes on and on saying she’s only telling Paloma because she’s so insistent, but she shouldn’t get her hopes up and her father may not be at all what she expects. In fact, he probably won’t want to see her, and they lied—he did know Mac was pregnant, and that’s why he left. Nonetheless, Paloma is thrilled that Cruel is being so, so helpful. She gives her a big hug and beams. Paloma probably doesn’t help with the cooking because she still can’t remember the stove is hot, and keeps putting her hand on it.

Inés makes Cris really uncomfortable by telling him everyone in town, at least all the ladies, including Carlota, prefers him because he is the best and hottest priest. More or less. Fortunately Chava comes to the rescue and Inés is dismissed.

As Romina is about to leave for the test and hoping the witch Cruel knows what she’s doing, Cami tells her she doesn’t have to go if she doesn’t want to. Cami will help with the baby and it won’t need a father. Romi hugs her tightly and Cami looks surprised but happy.

PJC and Chava talk about his alcohol addiction issues. PJC suggests he find some different friends. Chava says it’s hard because almost everyone likes to drink, and he doesn’t want to be alone. Cris says he understands completely.

Cruelota assures Romina she has everything under control. Romina tries to guilt-trip Emo about the risks of the test.

At the clinic, the technician does an ultrasound and assures them all that the risks are very minimal. Emo seems intrigued by the heartbeat. The lady pulls out a ginormous needle. Romina is very committed to her villainy, I must say. I would confess to almost anything to avoid that needle, whether I did it or not.

Paloma excitedly tells Rufi that Carloca is going to introduce her to her father, really for real! Rufi truly cannot believe it. She wonders what Cruel is up to.

Meche is at the clinic to get the results of Chava’s tests. Little chatfest when Emo, Cami, and Romina parade by, Romi clinging to Emo’s arm. As they’re all departing, a mysterious dame clad in a trench coat and low hat enters, witch boots first. Whoever could it be?

Paloma looks in the mirror and dimwits to imaginary Mac that Auntie Loca is going to tell her the truth for real, and she doesn’t know which of them lied to her (really?) but she’s glad she will finally know her father.

Romina and Emo talk about how emotional it was, seeing the baby on the screen. Emo actually seems really happy and excited about the baby now. About Romina, still not so much. She tells him she loves him and kisses him anyway.

Romina goes inside and tells her baby it had better not grow too much or hurt too much being born. At the very least, it should make Emiliano stay with them. You got that, baby? OR ELSE.

Inés and Diana talk about some event Inés is invited to and she wants Di to crash; I think it’s something to do with Orlando; whatever.

Paloma and Emiliano meet up in the magical park wherein people can smooch all they want yet keep their noviazgo a secret.

Oh, I guess the event is the launch of the new ceramics line. Rafael is excited that Camila is planning to come, even if it is with Orlando.

Romina thinks Camila is going to the ceramics celebration just as a pretext to see Rafael. Cami says she’s going because she’s the designer and also an investor in the company. Romina does not like that, but remembers she’s in suck-up mode and says now that she’s going to be a mother she understands how hard it is to be alone. Cami says she’s not alone.

Emiliano gets dressed for the party and Diana whines that it isn’t fair she wasn’t invited when she was the one responsible for the new line, and, indeed, any success Rafael has ever had. Emo rolls his eyes and says that is certainly NOT true. Di makes hilarious obnoxious faces at him.

Party scene. Rafael greets Camila and takes her hand and leads her off to see the new line before it is revealed to everyone. Their theme song plays.

Rufi questions Cruel about her plans. Cruel just says she is going to tell Paloma what she wants to know. Cruel goes into her office and calls Salazar, the guy who helped her find Cris right in front of her nose.

Orlando goes to Natalia’s house and says he needs a friend. He invites himself in for a tequila.

Romina interrupts Carloca’s and Paloma’s dinner to beg Paloma to go to the party with her. Paloma says it’s late and she doesn’t want to, so of course Carloca says she should go.

Orlando swigs tequila and tells Natalia that he thinks Emiliano is his long-lost son.

Rafael shows Camila the new ceramics in the privacy of his office. If they hadn’t raved about them so much, I would not have known how fabulous they are. Cami tells him she and Oily Orly are through. Rafa needs a tongue probe to confirm this.

Emo and Germs cross paths in front of the convenience store I had no idea existed in the rarefied orbit of Real del Monte. Germs is all apologetic, Emo is still angry. Emiliano says they’ll see where things stand when they get the test results. Germy swallows hard a lot.

Diana knocks on Rafael’s office door as Rafa and Camila are kissing. Aiieeee!

Avances: Carlota plans to meet someone in Pachuca. Padre Juan gets a confusing important summons. Paloma is the naivest naïf on the planet, nay, in the universe. Carlota tells Paloma her father is named Juan and is the guy over there dressed in black.

Love the song, am hating the character, even at arm's length. Beginning to remind me of Sofia in FELS.

Wieked funny as usual, Julia. Loved the Rafael "needs a tongue probe to confirm this".

And agree with you about those loooong needles. I was advised to take a test to confirm the state of baby (not paternity!) when I became pregnant at 40. But after hearing some of the things that could go wrong..needles puncturing baby's eyes, uncontrolled bleeding etc. I decided to just take the risk of having a baby with problems and "tener fe". And that baby is MY Julia.

Julia: I didn't have time to watch this last night. Thanks for your snarky recap and great title.

Romeana gets too much face time for me. Come on anvils, start falling.

Hi! This is my first post, but I’ve been enjoying your recaps since the beginning. However, my husband and I record the shows and watch later, so we are usually a week or 2 behind, which means that I would be waaaayyy late to the comments party. But I am skipping ahead (but not reading anything so as not to be spoiled) to share my Halloween photos with you all while you are still checking the blog comments. I can’t imagine a group that would appreciate them more, so check them out here: http://picasaweb.google.com/kinca005/Halloween2009#
While I am here visiting the future, let me take the opportunity to thank all of you recappers for your hard work. I have followed you on guapos and now nombre, and you are the best! I don’t know how many other silent folks like me are out there, but we really appreciate this site, for the vocab and the laughs. Muchas gracias! And I can’t wait to see what new evil Carloca is up to by the time I get to whichever episode this is ;-)

Thanks for the recap Julia. ITA with Judy love the song getting really annoyed with Pal. The writers make her reasoning skills non-existent most of the time and almost always when she's getting important information. Sigh.

I hope Orly was just happy to see Natalie and that wasn't supposed to be a foreshadowing of a future romance b/c she's too good him (unless he gets a personality transplant as poor Vicente did in Cuidado). The writers will have to bring in some new galan actually worthy of her as I'm hoping Carloca does not harm her.

Welcome, k! Those photos are hilarious; that is truly the scariest costume imaginable. And even an old-fashioned purple sofa to pose on! Perfect.

K...LOVED THE PICSS!!!! Although...you needed more eye makeup to get that true crazy carlota look!!! :)

Another fairly grim epiosde.

The one happy moment was Emiliano being completely captivated by the baby. You can tell he's already enchanted and in for heartbreak once the real paternity is revealed.

Your wonderful humor shone throughout Julia. "The convenience store I had no idea existed in the rarefied orbit of Real del Monte" and Paloma "the naivest naïf on the planet" were simply great. Another stellar recap.

Orlando didn't waste any time finding someone to share his problems with, did he? Poor Nat. Everyone seems to be either unloading on her or confiding their deepest secrets. I like and admire her character. Am I being disloyal to Mac if I hope she ends up with Cris and being a second mother to Paloma?

Once it's announced Emiliano is the father, Germ will likely accept the results without question. How could he possibly be aware a lying, murderous monster would have the results altered? Blech.

does anyone else agree that Paloma and Emiliano are sooooooo boring. I thought Chris and Mac were the true couple.
ella

Diana I agree Nat and Chris would make a great couple.

K- Those pictures were too funny! I hope you went to a Halloween party with lots of other telenovela watchers. :)

Didn't watch last night's epi, so I can't comment, but I really wish they would show some true growth on the part of Paloma. It seems like she takes 2 steps forward in the strength/intelligence/independence department, then the next day she takes 1 and a half steps back. Maybe she will magically get all of these qualities the day of her 18th birthday? Like Sleeping Beauty or Snow White who have been enchanted by the evil witch- just waiting for that catalyst (i.e. a kiss from the prince or an 18th birthday?) to snap them out of it. One can hope, right?

Let's hope something snaps Paloma out of it.

I agree, she and Emiliano are completely boring together. They never talk about anything interesting or do fun things. Why exactly do they think they're so in love? It would be more believable if they ever had a good time playing mini golf or discussed what sort of future they envision together or had opinions on local politics or SOMETHING.

K, great photos! What fun!

I can't stand Orly! I've never liked him even when he was the good, supportive boss to Emiliano. There's something about his teeth (false?) that bothers me. If he tried to kiss me, I'd hurl. It now looks like he has two opportunities for ending up with someone: Angelica and Natalia. Agree 100% - both are too good for him.

I especially like Natalia. I saw her in La Usurpadora where she played a semi-bad, semi-good maid in the house of the rich folks. She played such an empty headed person. It's the sign of a good actress how believable she is as a caring and wise person.

And Julia, you recap was exceptional, as always. So true that Pal keeps putting her hand on the hot stove!

I think the scene in the avances must be a red herring when Carloca tells Pal her papá is the guy in the black suit and to turn around. I don't think that bombshell will explode so soon.

Also, Inés was talking to Mateo about some event or charitable thing that she and Carloca agreed MUST have the involvement of Juan/Cris, so Carloca is pulling the strings behind the scenes again. Every effort to avoid all contact with her results in some maneuvering on her part.

I think Carloca will either pay her detective to pretend to be Paloma's father and tell her he wants nothing to do with her (thus avoiding future contact and hurting Paloma more), or she will point to some random stranger, who will of course deny it all (thus allowing Carloca to rub it in that Paloma's father won't acknowledge her, and hurting her more).

"They never talk about anything interesting or do fun things."

Julia- I don't know why that comment from you made me laugh. Maybe because it's hard to imagine anyone doing fun things in Real del Monte. But she did manage to have some fun times with Inaki, and that was when she was on a much shorter leash with Carloca. Now she has more freedom to come and go, but she does nothing fun. She and Lili nead to go out for a night on the town and just forget about all the other crazies in Real del Monte for a little while.

Paloma is just so, so bland, and the actress is capable of doing so much more, it's really a shame. Consider her character in Guapos, Mili. Mili had some spunk, possibly too much spunk, but she had an interesting life and a real relationship with her galán. They shared a love of soccer, they were each antagonized by the awful family and had rich relationships with Granny Regina, and Mili also had hobbies of her own, like singing and going out dancing. Also she was constantly doing stuff like getting Al to play butler or join the stripper gang, or they were visiting each other in the hospital or hassling each other over the other people they were dating. They didn't just meet for a little cry and/or sobfest for ten minutes per week and call that a relationship.

Yes, when the heck is that 18th birthday of Paloma's going to take place?

That huge diamond necklace shown a couple of episodes ago was intriguing. I wonder if it's existence will surface again. Probably not, since Paloma most likely doesn't know it exists. But Rufi, who has proven not to be too sharp lately, might know it exists but forgotten about it and doesn't know it was actually given to Mac as an inheritance.

Thanks for the fun recap, Julia.

GinCA

I think Rufi who's been with the family like forever. I fshe saw that necklace would probably recognize it as Mac. How can she see it since it's in Carloca's safety deposit box.

I don't even think Mac knew about the diamond necklace. She thought the pearl necklace from Chris was her only asset. I think Carloca pulled the same trick on Mac as she has with Paloma- telling her she had no inheritance. Remember, she kept bringing up how it was Mac's actions that killed their father and probably convinced everyone he had disinherited her because of her love affair with Chris. It seems like Carloca has many, many years of practice with this kind of thing.

You know, it just hit me how rich Paloma is going to be when the whole truth comes out. She'll have her adoptive parents' money, the money the was Mac's (that I am sure Caloca has also hidden), the jewelry (pearl necklace, Inaki's antique ring, gigantic diamond necklace), and since she has killed so many people Carloca will not be redeemed and will either die or rot in prison, meaning Paloma will get her money too. Diana is going to LOVE her as a daughter-in-law! :)

I think Carloca doesn't have any money because one of the main reason she kept Mac and Paloma in the dark about the inheritance was because of money. Also someone commented when this novela started about why Mac and Carloca don't work. They were probably being supported by Javier. I too believe this is child's play for Carloca because she's been doing it for a long time. As for the murders they were spontaneous. Except for Inaki's. When she get's into a fit of purple rage there's no telling what she will do. How in the world would she get access to RoMEna personal info concerning the baby. Once again I hope Dr. B discovers the real identity of the father. It will probably be too late.

Yes, the necklace is interesting. I agree that Carloca somehow got her hands on papi's will and told Mac that he left her nothing. Have they ever said what happened to their mother? It seems she must have predeceased the father, because he presumably died around the time Mac turned up preggers. I remember a flashback scene of him clutching his chest. Somehow I'm pretty sure Her Purpleness had something to do with his demise, either shocking him with the news presented in the worst possible light or, maybe, belladonna. If the mother were still around, Carloca would not have been able to grab the necklace.

Anon, I don't think Carloca will "get access" to RoMEna's personal info. I think she bribed the nurse or someone else just to falsify the DNA results, saying that there is a match between the baby's DNA and Emiliano's. After all, Em presumably gave a sample, a swab of his saliva, or something. The bribed person just says in the report that baby matches Em.

Since this novela is 171 episodes long i hope we get the complete backgound on what happened after Mac's and Carloca father died. They should show us also what she said to make him have a heart attack. Then they should show us how she got a hold of that necklace.

I'm pretty sure that Carlota and Mac did have inherited money of their own, but that Cruel tricked Mac and took everything for herself. Maybe it wasn't enough to maintain herself in high style forever, but I think Cruel took Paloma's money out of greed and jealousy, not because she really lacked funds.

I noticed this earlier but forgot to mention it:

I like your "Romeana" as a new moniker, Pasofino.

I agree, Julia, Carlota's greedy all right, but what really drives her is spite and jealousy. She's wanted to hurt Paloma since forever because she is living, breathing proof that Cris loved Mac and not her.
