Gancho Wed Jan 20th - A Gaggle of Green Guys and is you is or is you ain't my Daddy?
Well you know I actually worked from home today and got to watch this show at air time...problem is I really had to work i.e. finish a project which didn't go so well while I was watching so I had to not write while watching and before two events including one to benefit Haiti. I hope things brighten a little for those poor folks. So this is a quicky. A good episdoe though from what I could tell at a glance.
So I can briefly tell you that Moni outsmarted the Momia with a gaggle of green guys and foiled her attempts at trying to unmask the masked avenger/fury/pick your power adjective here.
Beto announced he is el Pepillo's son at the fight to the world.
Of course our benevolent goofy duo wins the darn thing.
The press is all over the vecinidad after hearing of Beto's progeny and Estrella takes to them swimmingly.
Aldo has a conversation with Katia about how could he cross the woman he loves so horribly, Estrella, that is. I think we hear that they (the girlfriends - not Aldo, he of course still has no clue) know Estre is preg for sure because she took a test that came out positivo. I'm wondering with all this reappearance of Tano if they are going to try to pull that it's his. That would kind of suck in my opinion. 'Course a 16 yr old as a dad kind of sucks too, but hell, he already takes care of his little sister, so he's definitely equipped.
Arnoldo is clearly impressed with Ximena's intelligence and tells Jero that she is mas listo en que lo pensaba. In other words, he digs her bones. He might even like her spit on his eyebrow.
Rolu wants to, you know, with her despite the fact that he supposedly doesn't work from the waist down. Xime apparently knows this, and tells Arnoldo not to worry about surgery.
Juan Jose Origel himself chases down the Beto family, poses for some shots, won't allow him to touch his Parisian suit and confirms he "did not have sexual relations with...that...woman..."
At the end, Jacqui pays a visit to Monita, she has something important to tell her...about her MOM. Uh oh.
Wish I had time for more, but alas I'm just stretched. I might get some pics, so maybe tomorrow I can post, course by then Thurs show will be on already....holy toledo. I haven't even finished readin Judy's cap yet!!! Argh...stay happy folks!!

Kris, you always amaze me. Coming through with a recap in spite of all you're doing. The NPR report of some of the struggles of the surgical teams and the suffering people in Haiti was heartbreaking this morning. Your priorities are where they should be.
The title is wonderful. I've always loved the word "gaggle" and the blues song, so for me it was a perfect combination.
And your shout out for former Pres Clinton was a hoot!

Good morning Kris and Judy.
Adding my thoughts and prayers to the Haitians who were killed, missing and injured. I'm also praying for all of the families for closure, for comfort and for strength. Sincere respect and admiration for all of those assisting in the relief and rescue effort.
I so enjoy your succinct style and of course, your title was fabulous (as always). Your recaps are always so enjoyable Kris - a refreshing and happy way to start each Thursday.

Kris, you summed up Aldo's impending fatherhood perfectly. Being a 16 year old father would definitely suck, but Aldo is far from typical. He's been caring for his sisters (and very well too) for years. It wouldn't be easy, but his young life has been graced with and challenged by hard life lessons and he has shone.

Good morning all. Kris, your titles are always such a delight.
My favorite scene(s) last night was Arnoldo falling for Ximena's charms. How funny that she is totally on to Rolu's "charade". She looked especially adorable in her ponytails.
I was kind of hoping that all the Furias would unmask themselves, but I imagine they were everyone we knew including Paula! I laughed out loud when one of the Furias, in dulcet tones, said "he" was happy to help Sermeño Group.

Karen, I've noticed that as I get older, I wake up earlier and earlier (especially on weekends, when you'd think I could sleep late!). So of course, as I wake up earlier and earlier, I can't stay up as late (unless I can sneak in a little nap).
Hi Karen, I blush to admit this but part of the reason is it's just too hard to change my new radio alarm over to a new time(honest, it's complicated..my very bright youngest child took 20 minutes to program it) AND normally I get up a little before 6 because I need to eat breakfast early in order to teach morning classes. ( Doing pushups and having your oatmeal come back on you is not good.) Too much information?
AND...this way, when the time change comes in Spring (in Indiana you don't have to contend with this) I have no problem. I'm already getting up at the right hour.
Does that make sense? Does it matter? Anyway, I DO like getting a head start on the day. And it seems like I never do anything worthwhile at night but watch tv and so...better to get the extra hours early when I'll actually be motivated to do something.

Valentina is drop dead gorgeous and sassy and smart and determined. What a doll! Coni was wonderfully vulnerable yesterday as well as snotty and plotting. Ximena is a fabulous character and the actress is utterly captivating. You know how I feel about Beto (me gusta mucho) and Mauricio was dimly sexy and sweet. Oscar was not a nice boy, and I loved the visit by El Pepillo, who was even more smarmily handsome than I expected. Wow. i feel like I could do an infomercial about how happy I am that I came over to Gancho.

Mike, yes, good question. Haiti does not have a building code at all, nor do most builders there follow any sort of good building practices on their own. This is typical in much of the third world, and it's why these poor places suffer so much more destruction and loss of life when there is an earthquake than places like the U.S.
If they reinforced the concrete (sometimes they use a little rebar, like a few #3 or #4 bars in a column, but without ties that doesn't do much good in an earthquake) and tied things together better at joints and whatnot, the buildings might be damaged beyond repair but they shouldn't collapse and kill people.
The sad yet hope-giving thing is, better detailing and a bit of rebar adds very little to the cost of a building. So I am hoping that some significant aid money and education programs will go toward improved building practices and reinforcing structures BEFORE disaster strikes, not just in Haiti but in other places as well.

Julia and Mike...thanks for that discussion about building codes. I knew from the news reports that the buldings were unsafe even before the earthquake, but didn't know why. It's amazing what one learns. One of our pastors and his wife are over there full-time helping run a school, and we have groups of surgery teams who go over there twice a year...but they are located in another part of the island. They felt the quake but did not have the devastacion.

Lot's of flooding all around me—we get much more rain here in our North Bay microclimate, sometimes 4X to 6X what they get in San Francisco proper. Well I got lucky even, because literally just after I posted this first bit, the power and hence the internet connection went out. I was sure glad I got this much in there. We are pretty soaked too.
Thanks for liking my minimal efforts. I think I pale in the dedication to most of you folks, especially Cap't Shark but I'm glad you aren't too disappointed.
I am amazed too, Mike, we did a similar thing where I work and would you believe we raised and matched to the tune of $100,000!!! I'm impressed. Sure hope it funnels down to those on the ground. The logistics are somewhat mind boggling. I have yet to figure out what we raised last night, but we were in the company of many immigrants and aid workers who are here and have friends and family there that were killed. Brings it home indeed.
Anyway, I was glad this episode was light and I hope I remembered the salient points. There was a lot of the fight scenes and Coni stewing about this or that and not huge forward plot movement except for the items I mentioned.

I did not tell my friends my I have to miss tonight's event. That would lead them to question my priorities and my sanity! :)

I liked how Origel (reminds me of the painkiller to put on gums) was in the middle of getting all irate and accusing Nieves of lying, but when the camera popped out he instantly went into cheesy-grin photo mode.
OT OT OT ~ I think Mexico City had pitiful-to-none building codes until the most recent horrible earthquake of several(?) years ago. They learned their lesson and implemented some codes. Perhaps Haiti will learn and do likewise.

Slo-Mau sure is lucky the faux-Mau plot worked out in the end. If Fury had been unmasked as Beto (his clever contingency plan), Coni would have never let it go and Fantasma probably would have ended up unmasked as well, since she knows that is who Beto was supposed to be.
Hey Gancho! Thank you very much for this recap. Knowing you are taking the time even though you have such a busy schedule makes me feel much more grateful for your effort.
