Gancho Wed Jan 6 - La Vida es un Cabaret!

I'm posting this early in case I don't get to finish my recap on time. I've had a horrible track record with this show. We had to send off another of our cats today to the afterlife and so I'm working slowly on this.

Tonight we had a wonderful performance by Madame Lalo. A delicious break up by Jimena. A fabulous save by Beto, and a little more fiesta for all of our Gancho land folks.

Feliz Dia de Reyes to all, may all have received the best gifts. Whoever gets the baby let me know, I could use a party!!! :)

Kris, I'm so sorry to hear about your kitten. I feel so sad for you. So soon after losing the beautiful Pinecone, bless your heart.

Tonight was one of the neatest episodes. I know that few here will have a lot of sympathy for Coni, but I hate to see anyone make a fool of himself publicly. I realize she deserved every ding she got. This was fraught with irony. How about that Beto? I have to admit that it was not unil Coni named Tano as the next suspect that it dawned on me that it was Beto. Doh! I thought that was so perfectly symmetrical.

Poor Rolu. I didn't see that coming either. Ximena is so chock full of elegance and grace. I do hope she reconsiders however. After all, she did really mark up Rolu's body with Ximena graffiti.

Hurrah for Lalo. He was spectacular though he really doesn't have the butt or legs for the part.

Am I the only one watching Sal super-closely for the first indication of the heart attack we know he's signed up for.

I know I made a rash prediction about upcoming insex between Moni and Bug. Let me modify it slightly. I think that it may be Mao who will be deceived. Moni will know it's Mao and he will think that she believes it's Furia, someone whose face she's never seen. If so, it'll serve him right.

Once again Kris, my heart goes out to you.

Carlos

Oh Kris, I am so sorry. I'm thinking it must be Pinecone's daughter. This is such a heartbreaking time. Kizzie's cousin is dying of kidney disease right now but she still asls to go outside from time to time to enjoy the sun...and she can take a little nourishment (baby food) from my friend's finger...but the time is near.

Well, this dense-head was completely blindsided by both the Ximena development and the Beto save. I thought it was just one of the other luchadores. But I love it that Mau and Beto are going to work together. And I loved Beto's straight talkin' sermon to Constanzia.

Now Dr. Carlos...I thought Lalu had GREAT LEGS. In fact could hardly take my eyes off 'em. My freshman year in college, our second semester History prof was a young hip tennis playing doll. I always sat in the front row right side of the ampitheatre so I could admire the way his gray flannel slacks draped over the curve of his well-developed calf muscle. Ah, those legs!

Just one other note about the fun episode last night. Oscar is a fabulous dancer. There was one scene where he was doing a very...well, oily mambo hip swivel. Fannnnnnntastic.

Kris, God bless. My heartfelt sympathies in the loss of your fur child. As Carlos and Judy mentioned, too much, too soon, particularly after the loss of Pinecone.

I did realize Beto had done the bait and switch for Mau. The dark brooding eyes gave it away!!! What fun.

Also, didn't our lovely Estrella change dresses? Her first dress was striped and featured a great deal of red. Last night, the only red was the boa (and much maligned red feather headpiece) as a much prettier, far more muted color dress appeared.

Judy, loved "oily mambo hip swivel". Oscar can move. Also, ignoring the Cesar/Nieves conversation to see what was happening in the background, I thought Jero was also busting some good moves.

Less graceful but as much fun was the Jero/Jackie/Oscar "dancing sandwich" and the Nieves/Cesar bump and grind.

Im looking forward to hearing more about what Ximena said to Rolu. I'm also excited that Mau and Beto are teaming up. Although more brawn than brains, it will be an interesting match-up nevertheless.

Diana

Good morning Kris and others. Kris, I am terribly sorry to hear about your kitty. It's so painful to lose a furry friend, and two in such a short span is heart-wrenching. I would love to hear your take on last night's antics but certainly understand if you don't have it in you to do a recap. We will all discuss it anyway.

Carlos, I had no sympathy whatsoever for Coni. She just kept digging herself in deeper and deeper and I was enthralled watching her. However she has fire in her eyes now and we know how she loves to spread wrath and pain when she's pissed off.

I couldn't keep my eyes off Jero, Jacqui and Oscar when they were dancing. Thank goodness they were there, they really got things jumping. Julia called it, all good parties need dancing. I loved the little hands-on-a-stick party favors. They were perfect for Arnie, he didn't have to touch a thing.

Xime, what can I say, I adore her.

Lalo rocked! I loved his performance. Was he doing Alejandra Guzman? He sure sounded like her.

Diana, I didn't notice if Estrella changed dresses but she did look a LOT better last night. Now if only she would remove that tacky feather from her hair. That said, when I was in Guanajuato we went to the hippy market and the feathers-on-a-headband were hot sellers. My friend purchased one.

Judy, nothing wrong with Lalo's legs. The just look like they belong more on a tight-end than on a chanteuse.

I immediately thought of Julia when the dancing started. I was hoping to see Furia and Moni do the jitterbug. (Sorry, it had to be said.)

My new hero is Beto. I have to admit, I thought of all the same men that Coni did, and pretty much in the same order. Is the bug suit somehow a one size fits all?

Is there anyway Coni can top last night's performance?

Sylvia, thanks. I don't know whether Lalo was doing Alejandra Guzman, but I'm glad you mentioned her. I'd never heard of her so of course I had to check on You Tube. I really like her singing.

Diana, I'm impressed with your keen eye. Recognizing Beto as well as Estrella's wardrobe switch...wow! In retrospect, the fact that Beto smelled good for the first time should have been a clue as well.

This is the song I meant to link.

Kris, so sorry about your cat. But thanks for reminding us about the Dia de Reyes.

When Aldo, Estrella and Mau were in the storeroom discussing how they could possibly keep up the switching back and forth between Mau and Furia, the camera showed that someone was in the background listening. We initially thought it was Connie, but short after that, the camera showed us she was still in the exact same position she had been before, seated at a table by herself. Therefore, the lurker had to be someone else. And who had just left the building? Beto. So I thought it was Beto immediately. Also, his height (or lack thereof) gave him away.

Of course, nobody has noticed the height thing (with Aldo, either), so we just have to suspend belief a bit on that. Meanwhile, Connie was humiliated, but I still don't think she's convinced, she still thinks it was Mau, and someone else was in the costume.

And tonight it seems that Moni figures things out from the eyes (just as Diana noticed Beto's dark eyes). Carlos, I like your thinking about the insex (and the jitterbug!).

As for Ximena, she was right to tell Rolu she wont' take him back (at least not yet). He was so mean to her, for so long, he's going to have to prove his love, and it'll take more than one day. Maybe if he makes a magical weekend, or a magical day, with a heart on the ground, or a secluded cabin, champagne, or something like that, he'll win her back.

I agree, the ball is now in Rolu's court. He needs to find some way to prove to Xime that he really means it when he says he wants to stay with her forever. I'm glad she didn't give in too easily.

I did not hear a word of Nieves's and Cesar's conversation, I was so enthralled with watching Jero and Oscar in their competing peacocks routine. That was priceless. I loved all the dancing, of course. Mauricio seemed to really get into that conga line.

Sorry about your poor kittycat, Kris. That is so sad.

Fuego (May I call you Kris?): I'm sorry for the loss of your kitty. I'm sure he or she had a great life at your side.

Tonight I found Rolu to be so handsome. Love truly does wonders for everybody, especially for such good looking guys like him.

The song Lalo sang was "Por La Calle de Alcalá" from the Spanish musical "Las Leandras". He sang with a typical Spanish dress and accent.

I loved that Jaqui started the singing and dancing while chanting "Ya se fue la momia" haha. Also her "Ya sé que tienes complejo de jerga niña, ¡te encanta quedar por los suelos!" was awesome. She was on top form last night.

Jarocha

Also, one of the things this novela does so well is represent parts of the mexican life. The songs they used: Sopa de Caracol, El Venado, etc. the conga lines, people wearing their ties on their heads hehe. That's so common for the parties you go here.

Jarocha

Carlos...I like it when Ms. Guzman sings really rockin' songs, that go well with her raw whiskey-soaked voice, but ballads nooooo. But ..."individual differences" as we say.

Thanks for identifying the song Lalu did, Jarocha. You keep educating us. We're lucky to have you.

I like Alejandra's "Volverte a Amar". It's my favorite ballad of hers. She does have the perfect voice for the rock songs, especially her "Hey Güera" because that one was made especially for Paulina Rubio and then Paulina dedicated "Mío" to Alejandra (Or was Mío first?) that time was fun. "Hacer El Amor Con Otro" is a classic now.

Jarocha

I'll have to look for Hey Guera! Sounds like a good one.

Kris, I just tagged it for you.

I was surprised by Aldo's docility last night. Coni speaks ordering the kids and Teri home with her and just a yes'm from Aldo. Guess he just didn't want a hassle, but I was expecting at least token resistance. Does he have a plan?

We've had 150 shows and this TN is still going strong. I look forward to each new episode, the recaps and the comments each day, and recapping myself every Mon. So much is suddenly in play again that I sure don't see any slump looming for the near future. What fun! Now if they'd fix the CCs, life would be good.

Carlos

Wasn't Aldo responding to a gesture from someone else? I can't remember who it was, maybe Gabi? I seem to remember someone nodding at him, like, "Just go; we'll fight this battle later" and then he gave in. I think they've realized by now what Constanza is capable of and know they'll need a smarter plan to be free of her, and that arguing with her may just set her off with drastic consequences for the kids.

Also, Aldo said something to Ivan as they were on the way out, but I didn't catch what it was.

Julia, you're absolutely right. I checked the recording. Aldo looked to Sal and Sal gave a quick nod. I'm still a bit surprised that Luisa didn't assert herself on this. She just gave a sour look. Aldo then turned to Ivan and asked him to take his granny home and to tell Estrella that he had to leave. Not exactly what I would have expected from the wild young bull and the petulant younger sister.

I've missed Mike and Emilia the last couple of days. I hope they are OK.

Carlos

Thanks for the links everyone, fun stuff.

Could Aldo finally be wising up? It's pointless to get into a rumble with Coni because she never stands down. When people push back she bullies even more.

Jarocha, excellent point of Rolu looking much handsomer. The fact that he is smiling now instead of scowling all the time also helps.

Coni looked so beautiful Tuesday night but last night she looked kind of witchy what with her black dress, pointy shoes and nasty disposition. Jacqui was hilarious with "ya se fue la momia".

Sylvia, Gancho just finished here and behold, the CCs were actually quite good, so I think you are in luck. Strangely enough, I sent Univision an Email last night asking them to fix the CCs ... now. Coincidence? Probably, but nevertheless it can't hurt for us to ask them to help us out here. Also, looks like Hombre is going to get a jewel of a show tomorrow night. Enjoy tonight.

Carlos

Thanks Carlos, fingers crossed for tonight! I hope those darn CCs are working again.

Oh, and thank you for writing Univision.

Uh oh, no CCs on the news that's preceding Gancho. Sigh...

Ten fe, Guapa.

Carlos
