Character descriptions from Corazon Salvaje

Juan del Diablo (Eduardo Yañez): Juan is a man of good heart, but hardened by suffering and the thirst for vengeance against Rodrigo and Leonarda, who destroyed the lives of his parents. He seeks vengeance but also justice, so he confronts authorities and struggles for the poor.

Regina Montes de Oca (Aracely Arámbula): She is noble and delicate but has a strong character and a grand moral and ethical sense of responsibility. She's a woman who seeks to develop herself without waiting for a husband to maintain her. She will live a platonic love with Renato and a real love with Juan, who will help her discover the passionate woman she carries within herself.

Aimée Montes de Oca (Aracely Arámbula): She is beautiful, sensual, volcanic, temperamental and passionate. She unreservedly gives in to her desires. She is passionate for Juan although she doesn't actually love him, and she marries Renato for money. Aimee lives in the present, without thinking about consequences. She will try to separate Regina from Juan by any means at her disposal.

Renato Vidal (Cristian de la Fuente): he is noble and fair. His vocación de justicia (vocation of justice??) will change radically when he discovers that the love of his life, Aimee, has been mocking him. When he discovers that Regina loves Juan, he'll seek to reconquer her love and will use all his power in an attempt to destroy Juan.

Leonarda Montes de Oca (Helena Rojo): A woman dominated by her sentiments. She loves and hates without moderation, and is capable of murder to gain Rodrigo's love. She destroyes the life of her own sister and poisons Rodrigo's new wife, Constanza. Leonarda decides that "if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy" except her son Renato.

Rodrigo Montes de Oca (Enrique Rocha): He is kind and gracious, but proud. He can't bear it that the woman he loves is in love with a humble fisherman and becomes a spiteful villain. Blinded by jealousy, he decides to destroy them and succeeds. He spoils his daughter Aimee completely, but is rigid and strict with Regina.

Noel Vidal (René Casados): He knows all the secrets of Renato, Juan del Diablo, Aimee and Regina; adviser, tutor, moral guide for the four of them. He was the only one who offered a hand to Juan when he needed it. He'll have to go against Renato, his own son, because truth and justice are more important to him than everything. He secretly loves Leonarda, but she only married him for spite.

María del Rosario Montes de Oca (Laura Flores): She is hopelessly in love with Juan de Dios San Roman, whose son she had, now called Juan del Diablo. She went crazy when her sister Leonarda told her that Juan and her son were dead. Leonarda locked her in the farm's catacombs, where she lived dreming that her Juan was alive and would come back for her.

Gabriel (Sebastián Zurita): a handsome young man, noble by heart as well as by inheritance. When his father, who was Juan's tutor, dies, he takes care of Juan. He admires Juan and with him will defend the poor and humble. He feels confused for loving Jimena and Estrella at the same time, without knowing they are the same young woman. (MORE twins?)

Jimena (Angelique Boyer): Jimena is an adolescent tormented by her aunt Griselda, who in reality robbed her as a girl. Her life will take place among: the circus; her friendship with Regina; her love for Gabriel; and the harrassment of Servando. She will be protected by Juan and suffers because Gabriel ignores that she is Estrella.

Thank you so much! This was great and the pictures were an added treat. I cannot wait for this to start. Eduardo Yanez. Sigh.

Diana

Oh yes! I second that. Can't wait.

CHF~~~Thanks so much. Now , we are ready to set sail. Where's my headscarf ? Hi, Diana and Connie.

I'm on board to watch as I luuuv the Big Guy. However, some of these photos are already making me giggle. I think there will be loads of snark flying about.

GinCA

Welcome aboard , Gin CA.~~~Susanlynn, already giggling

Good news, me mateys. Judyb is on board.

I have missed being here since the end of MEPS, but I just couldn't get into Sortilegio. I may come back on board for this one just to see Cristian de la Fuente. MMMM, mmmm. When does it start?

Hi!
Thank you for the summary and the character descriptions, and I'm eagerly waiting to read the humorous recaps and the great comments. :-)

I remember the Fuego recaps were priceless, much better than the (weird-but-entertaining) novela itself.

Some small (spoilerfree) background informations...

This novela is based on two stories:
1. Caridad Bravo Adams's Corazón Salvaje (the book, not the 1993 masterpiece)
2. Yo Compro Esa Mujer (1990), which was an awesome period telenovela produced by Ernesto Alonso. The protagonists were Eduardo Yanez (here: almost the same character), Enrique Rocha (same), Leticia Calderón (the blonde Arambula), Alma Muriel (Helena Rojo), Luz María Jerez (the lovely Elizabeth Gutierrez) and Mariana Levy (Angelique Boyer).

The Montes de Oca family issues-vengeange-Jimena/Gabriel storyline came from this novela.

My opinion:
CS09 is a typical Mejía telenovela, a surreal circus, but I think it isn't THAT stupid than Fuego en la Sangre was. It's pretty amusing.
(Or maybe I'm again blinded by the wide smile of Sr. I'm 50 But I Play A 30 Years Old Man Mostly Shirtless.)

Thank you Jane for the recap and the character list.

BTW, Osvaldo Rios plays Juan del Dios -- father of Juan del Dios/Diablo (Eduardo Ya~ez' character). Osvaldo's character is only in the first 12 episodes.

Jody :)

Is this suggesting that Laura Flores is supposed to be the MOTHER of the character played by Eduardo Yanez? And that Sebastian Zurita's character is supposed to be about his age (since it says his father was Juan's tutor.)

Shades of HMS Pinafore, which had an equally unbelievable pair of "brothers"!!

Or perhaps I am just confused?!?

tm

tm - yes, Laura Flores plays the mother of Juan del Diablo (Eduardo Ya~ez).

tm:
No, fortunately Zurita's character's 18-19 years old. :-)

But yeah, the 47 years old Flores plays the mother of the 50 years old Yanez. Interesting.

I saw where our Inaki from ENDA is also in the cast.

Does anyone know where this will fall in the lineup? What will it replace?

I can't wait! Yay high seas piratey period adventure!

Welcome aboard, Molly. Connie and I were hoping that you would voyage with us.

I'm in for all the hunkalicious males they've got in this one! Love to look at 'em. Christian de la Fuente is gonna be hard to hate as a goody-turned-baddy in this one.

I am delighted there is a new telenovela with so many actors that I love seeing! I haven't watched one since FELS because I just couldn't get into Sortilegio and my family thought I was crazed to be glued to the tv every night during the week. I have truly missed all the great recappers and their wit!

Does this start Feb 22 @ 9:00 pm? And was it received well in Mexico?

Yeah!!!! Period drama with lots of hunkalicious heros & heaving cleavage (for historical accuracy, natch). Jumping in feet first on this one, right from the start.
Maggarita
:-D

I watch this every night. Some of the best overacting you'll ever see! LOL

Dreadful version. More like a telenovela spoof than a telenovela (and still without any real laughs value). The Edoardo Palomo (OMG, now that is a handsome man and a good actor, unlike that Yanez fellow, who is also much too old for the character of Juan) and Edith Gomez (a fragile but strong beauty and an excellent actress) version is the one to see. Both actors now sadly gone before their time.
