Twin Decisons: The Fire or The Ice; The Convent or the Icy Fop

Meanwhile back at the daisy petal plucking method of choosing men, then the crypt of Constanza. Regina says no one can fill the hole of a lost mother. She wonders who MdeRosario can be and Leonarda muses that she is so talented that no one suspects that she killed Constanza and no one suspects that Rosario’s crypt is actually empty but she effectively killed her too.

Said Rosario is thanking the whining servant thanking for her help and saying she is her only friend and just seems to have noticed that the woman cannot speak.

Juan looks at the nets and the stars and says he could find his mother in one of the stars as Orion sits in the background. If not for Remegio he would not have survived so he needs to search for him. he owes him much. A youth steals a fish off the fire and is chased down by the laughing men.

Back at the convent, draped in 3 times the white gown needed Regina prays to be accepted in the house of god and cured of her wounds. Another nun in black tells her that Mother X will receive her now.

Juan talks about worry the youngster they saw last night. The lad professes to fish better that all these old men. and Juan invites him to tell of family. He says he has no mother or father and flinches to the ground at Juan’s touch. Juan reveals his whip slashed back. Were do you live? Show me your house. Juan and the men follow the child.

Mother Superior ask Regina if her father has permitted this, yes. Why do you want to take the habit and orders. Regina says a man whom she loved with all her out has elijedo, chosen another woman.

The tough child beater confronts Juan and the kid. Juan offers to take the kid off his hands.

MomSuper says this is not a good enough excuse, it is for those who chose the saintly rooms. Regina then confesses that she is being forced by her father. to marry a man whom she does not love. She begs for an opportunity. This convent is not a place to disobey your father. Is it worse to trick a man whom you do not love than to disobey your father.

Noel asks Rodrigo why he punishes Regina and urges him to Noel then cuts to the chase why has Rodrigo kept his anger about Rosario all these years and her desire to be with Juan de Dios?
***

Where did you find the child of Rosario this Noel says that the child survived. He tells him he received a letter fro mJuan de Dios but Rodrigo was out gadding about so Noel got it. The love child of M de Rosario is wandering around Are you going to abandon your own blood. So he took him in . Who died falling off the horse. The child must be taken care of . My son is honest and just and he will protect Juan like some one of the family and he has done it. Rodrigo tears up the letter and threatens that if this subject isn’t dead to all of them it will be terrible for all of them. HIs eyes flicker in nerves bursting out of his neck.

Juan finishes thrashing the unrepentant father of the child who claims he is so white and that somehow justifies his abuse, Juan leads the crying lad off away from the sandy defeated father.

Juan plays beach games with the well clad fisherman. Juan professes that he is going to get all dressed up to go ask for the hand of Aimee.

Aimee admires herself in the mirror and says that Renato is tender and thoughtful and it will be better to have his fortune than just her father’s, although aren’t they the same thing. Aimee, thinks deeply that Renato is giving such lovely flattering attention and she cannot fathom why her sister Regina urged her to promise to be faithful to Renato if she decides to marry him. Aimee promises Clemencia that she is incapable of hurting Renato. Clemencia says Regina told her of the intrigue with a strange man on the ship. Aimee denies all and begs Clemencia to believe her.

Arcadio complains that Leo has not come to see him since Rod has returned. and she says she doesn't’ t want to be discovered. Arcadio would like to Rod to know that after all these years she has been someone else and been his.

Rodrigo says this bastard had nothing to do with the Ocas. Noel says he is unjust. Rodrigo shows his eye tic again saying since the death of M de Rosario he has no interest in the bastard or anything associated with it.

Fop Federico follows Fulgencio into a cave, (is this his father?) He asks for help and Fulgencio directs him to a trunk which has bags of something and a rifle. Don Fulgencio demands that he work with him again if he wants help. He throws him a few coins and says he must discover who is against him (flash of someone being shot from a horse and hitting his head on a stone, sorry I missed this scene?)

Back on the fishing boat the men joke with the boy and Juan says he will take care of him.

Federico talks with Gabriel and Gab want s to know why Fed is being so inquisitive about his boss.

Rod and Fed meet in front of an impressive door and he says he must help Don Fulgencio. This seems to please Rodrigo who must be involved in the smuggling business to enhance his upper class investment activity. Rod says lets go have a coffee which is of course a stronger drink in a brandy snifter. They discuss that perhaps Regina will come to her senses and accept him and reject the convent. Rodrigo opines Ojala this come to pass.

Regina enters her rather opulent convent room which has beautiful pictures candles and lots of niceties . She prays and cries, prays and cries.

Renato looks at a huge diamond ring (the ice) with a jeweler. He does not care what the cost is of this big rock looks like at least 3 carats, He prays all he desires is Aimee will accept his love.

Leo sends Rosenda off and scolds Aimee that she is not to mention Rosario again. She was a traitor to her father and must not be . She hears a voice and says perhaps her father just suffers because of the betrayal of a woman. She thinks a man of the same class is who she should marry and that would be Renato but who she truly loves is the fiery Juan (the fire). She thinks back on the passion.while she does the daisy thing again with Renato or Juan. Renato or Juan she kisses the petals sensually on the Juan petals. the Renato petals drop quietly to the floor. hmmmm.
***

Rodrigo and Federico stroll and see Madam Marlena and her bevy of beauties. He asks them to join him for a little party at the Finca and won’t take no for an answer. The Frenchman finally accepts when Rod says he won’t take no of and answer. Marlena hides behind her fan.

Last scene and next time: The villagers sell vegetables and fish while the sombrero one watches from the grass. Maid keeps flowers and remembers that gardenias were found at Rosario's grave. Who could have brought those special flowers.

Juan shares all the money handing it out to the fishermen and the child. he avers he doesn’t need any of it and he is very proud of them. His friend remembers how just and good his father was. too.

Renato has something to say to Aimee and gives her the box I hope you will like it . She starts to protest abut remembers her fathers’ threat of the convent. and she says she cannot go with Juan and passion because she needs the life she is accustomed to. Renato professes his love since he saw her again when she . She doesn’t know what to say. He only wants her to say she will accept, he wants her to want to marry him. We exit to a fiery shirtless Juan. Tomorrow decisions come to a head: passion or position, fresh fish or diamonds, fire or ice. Later we will get to the convent -vs- the fop.

Gracias, Cheryl! Great and super fast, too. :)

Aimee will say yes, of course, but idk what's going to happen with Regina right now. Pobrecita. It must suck to be her.

"passion or position, fresh fish or diamonds, fire or ice. Later we will get to the convent -vs- the fop"---TOO funny, Cheryl! Thanks for the recap!

Regina & the nuns looked like they were getting ready for a big a$$ lobster fest, with bibs big enough to catch the melted butter (& claws....yeesh!).

Does anyone else find Juan a little frightening? The poor kid who stole the fish (who is so cute, btw) gets beaten at home & then Juan roughs him up & yells at him on the beach. Hate to sound like a broken record but this is FELS Redux, the Victorian Version. The lovable hulking but slightly volatile monster with a heart of gold...yada yada yada.

Maggarita
:-/

Great recap Cheryl. I was thinking that about the nun habit. Why did they need all that fabric? The chinstrap thing looked very uncomfortable.

What was that red thing Juan was wearing?

Has anyone tried to watch any episodes on YouTube? I just got a message that says due to copyright issues the video cannot be viewed for free. How frustrating is that?

Connie:
"Has anyone tried to watch any episodes on YouTube?"

Strange... I follow the novela on youtube (and later I download the episodes from a forum), and I didn't have any problems with the episodes.

Regina's nun habit sucks.

Hmmm... Maybe it is just something about my computer.

Thank you Cheryl! That nun habit was indeed too much. The neck strap was horrible. That alone should have her begging to be let out in short order. As for the red thing that Juan had on, I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be a garter belt of some sort or one of those supporters they give you when you work at the Home Depot. Did I detect an elastic waist-band on his loincloth?

Lady Xoc--you are too funny. He could run around in his loin cloth the whole time and I wouldn't be mad. The red thing was just weird.

If a child appears to be flinching in pain, why would you then roughly grab and shake said child to tell you why he is flinching in pain? I think perhaps you all need to resurect the nickname from FELS: I-Juan-a brain. I was surprised that they didn't put a horrible wig on abuser guy- he of the "I am white and my woman was white so this black kid she had isn't mine."

Great recap, Cheryl. I especially liked the title, and such fun phrases as "Fop Federico follows Fulgencio".

Vivi explained why the little kid's Dad didn't like him, but then to fight for him was a bit silly. I know, he wanted money for the kid. I was thinking Juan would pay him, but that would be wrong, because that would be child trafficking. So they cooked us the fighting for him idea. Then, when Juan had him down, he told Juan to finish him off, which was pretty dumb again. But typical.

Did anyone catch the kid's name?

Can't wait for the Madeline/Magda reunion with her daughter Rosenda.

That Mother Superior was quite beautiful. Not sure if all mother superiors have that much eye makeup and lipstick, but I didn't mind a bit.

I didn’t get much out of the dialog with the kid’s “papa”. He was denying being such. I thought maybe he was saying how could someone as white as me and wife (in the pinup he held up) be this kids parents (???)

I thought it was pretty insensitive of Juan to fight the “papa” in front of the kid who clearly has no one else (up until now) even if he isn’t really his father. I thought the kid said he didn’t have a name.

Connie, I get the same thing about copyright when I try to watch episodes on YouTube. Is there something specific we need to look for?

I've been having trouble even finding videos. When I put in Corazon Salvaje I get the older one and when I put in Corazon Salvaje 2009 I get promos. Today I found a video but it wouldn't let me play it.

Is someone going to put up a comment section for Mi Pecado?

Thanks, Cheryl. Hombre~~I agree that Mother Superior has a beautiful face. As for Que-Fed, it looks as if he has fallen in with Fugly and Rotten Rich Rod in some kind of smuggling. The scene of Arcadio pouncing on Leo makes me think that Leo is already paying for her evil ways by having to endure this lumbering lout's pawing ...bleccchhh. It was sweet to see Juan saving the little boy from his nasty guardian and thus protecting an innocent as Remigio and his mama had saved and cared for Juan when he was an abandoned baby . What goes around comes around .

I'll try this again and see if I get the links right:

I think the kid said his name was "Colibri" and nothing else. Just plain Colibri. So they kidded him and called him Señor Colibri (or something like that.

I believe Colibri is a hummingbird, or at least it is in the French song of that name by Ernest Chausson. And does this somehow connect him to Huitzilopochtli?

Great fun comments everyone. Thanks for the fill in on both parents being white thing. It did seem like whitetrash dad was looking for a buy out and I too am glad Juan didn't bite but just left with the boy.
I also missed a couple of episodes that presumably had the guy being shot off the horse and the side story somehow being tied into Fed-the-Fop and Rod-the-Pop's little blooming smuggling enterprise. If anyone can fill in, thanks.
So far they are giving use plenty of great visuals to joke about. And yes, I loved Juan's tattered boxer shorts that still had usable elastic banding. Someone call Wardrobe! We have some weird discrepancies here, but meantime let's keep looking at Juan's wet body in such good form. And I guess Aimee is the girl candy for you guys with Rosenda of the lovely shoulders showing some real potential.

Does anyone know why Juan would name his boat "Luzbel" which would mean Beautiful Light. Perhaps the bel part for Mabel.

"Fresh fish or diamonds!" Loved the recap, Cheryl. Thanks so much. We've seen some variations of nun's habits in all the TNs (pink, white, etc.) Hated the chin strap, liked the tiny bill on the cap. From details I've read in other places, not the most comfortable wear, but then that's not the purpose, is it?
There were more close-ups of Juan's boat last night. It looked shoddy and poorly made, really fake. Maybe they had to spend too much on the polyester costumes, and couldn't afford enough material for an authentic looking boat.
La Paloma

Gracias, Cheryl. Nice distillation of the major themes...and from that they filled out an entire episode *sigh* Well, at least there's a little more meat with the gun-running and Juan unionizing the fishermen. Maybe that will round out the bed-hopping (or beach-hopping) part of the plot.

Fed was sent to check out (what he doesn't yet know is) Juan's house because that's the house close to the cave. Fully needs to know if whoever is in the house is going to cause trouble. Gabriel is just hilarious when he's trying to be serious and menacing. He looks about 15, despite-or maybe because of-the wispy facial hair and not at all old enough to be someone's business agent.

That Mother Superior also looked way too young for her position.

Mari: someone suggested yesterday that the name of the ship actually comes from "Lucifer" aka "The Devil" and so would make the name a parallel to the name of Juan's dad's boat, since it was named the "Juan de Dios".

La Paloma, I agree. That boat really bugs me! It looks like the "pirate ship" ride at the State Fair--the kind that swings back and forth. It also doesn't look like the type used for fishing. Maybe one of you historians could confirm that?

Cheryl: An amazing, fun recap and I totally agree with everyone who loved the title. So glad you are back.

I love that all of the major galans (Yanez, Colunga, Levy and Camil) all interact so well with the children on these. They seem to genuinely like children in general and those with whom they act, in particular.

My sincere admiration for all of the observant comments about Juan's loincloth. I am simply too mesmerized by the phsique, pearly white teeth and smile to notice much else. He is simply spectacular.

Diana

Oh yes, I second that Diana!

I think parts for Yañez are deteriorating. In my opinion, he was decent in Destilando. He was much less so in FELS but he did occasionally have some endearing moments. I agree with an earlier poster, he's scary in this one. It seems it's all about showing him in Incredible Hulk mode and to hell with his acting ability. Sadly, "I Juan a Brain" does fit again and to the extreme.

Hey all, huge thanks to Gloria, Kat and CherylNM for the awesome recaps.

Comments for the last three recaps:
Kat, good luck on your personal drama, can't wait to hear how it turns out!

Iron Elna, I know what you mean about shallow family members. Clearly others just don't get our addicition to education. I mean, it's all about learning, right? The mind is a terrible thing to waste. Heh.

I try not to get too wrapped up in realistic details but as others have noted, WTF with the fishing boat? "Sails billowing in the wrong direction" (thanks Mag), meanwhile the boat is sporting at least a 6 knot wake. Sheesh.

Variopinta, bless you for the fantastic pic of FC. Le sigh, le heave. Who knew that half a face could be as beautiful as a whole face?

Lady Lisa, I just got done reading Two Years Before the Mast, it's a fantastic read isn't it?

Anyway, great recaps and comments y'all.

Just a quick comment about the conversation between Rodrigo and Fernando about Don Fulgencio. Fernando told Rodrigo he was helping Fulgencio with something and Rodrigo replied " it shows your good character helping poor old don Fulgencio is an act of kindness. since he's so old he needs all our help"
