Corazon Salvaje - Monday, July 19 - The trial of Juan del Diablo begins

EPISODE #106:
* Soldier guard holds rifle pointed at Juan, as Juan washes up in his cell. Juan smiles and shows his clean hands to the guard. Soldier guards walk Juan out of cell and down the dungeon hallways.

* Noel and Clemencia have a private conversation about Juan and Regina. They discuss Juan and Regina being in love, despite Renato’s feelings. Clemencia agrees to help with Juan and Regina.

* Pablo and Felipe meet outside the hospital. They discuss Juan’s trial starting today. Felipe asks Pablo to send a letter and some money to Marlene to tell her about the casino closure, and that Fifi has left to return home, he tells Pablo that Lulu and he are looking for new jobs.

* Noel and Clemencia continue their conversation - Clem tells him about Remi’s accident with the sharks last night. They stop talking when they see Rod and Leo on the stairs - Rod and Leo are discussing Rod seeing Maria. Noel asks if they are ready to leave for Juan’s trial. Rod can’t wait to leave. He and Leo walk out of the house together. Noel and Clem follow.

* Jime and Gabe talk about Juan’s trial. Jime is lonely, she cries because she feels rejected and abandoned by Mariela and her parents. She misses Mariela so much. Gabe asks if she has any memories at all about her mother. Jime wonders why he asks? He just says he’s curious. Jime thinks hard and starts to remember the sky.

* Mariela talks with Raul and her parents about Jime and Angela. Salma is jealous and starts to cry and scold them for thinking she is just an outsider and an imposter. She has a temper tantrum and says she wants to return to Griselda and the gypsies. Salma leaves. Mari cries as everyone leaves the room.

* In a split screen - Mariela is thinking about someone as Jime is starting to remember a fire.

* Regina and Renato are in the office before the trial. Renato presents Regina with the legal document to annul her marriage to Juan. Regina is stunned. Ren offers her a pen to use to sign the document. She takes the pen and throws it across the room. She rips up the document and throws it on the ground. She refuses profoundly to leave Juan; she married him for better or worse and until death do them part; and she takes those vows very seriously. Renato is aghast and wonders about her true feelings for Juan. He tells her that he loves her so much and tries to seduce a kiss from her. Regina reminds him of his marriage to her sister Aimee and the child they are expecting. Ren doesn’t care, he loves her strength, determination and loyalty. Regina is disgusted and wants to leave NOW!

* Jacinta and the troops are in the island shack, talking about going to the trial to support Juan.

* The courtroom is jam packed with everyone whispering and murmuring. Bailiff enters and silences the crowd. He presents Judge Don Pedro Solano (as portrayed by Julio Aleman) and starts the trial. Judge has the guards bring Juan into the courtroom. Juan exchanges glares with Ren, Rod and Leo.

* Felipe cheers himself up for his future employment inside the empty casino hall.

* Guards escort Juan into his defendent’s box. Juan presents himself as Juan del Diablo. Everyone starts to murmur.

* Felipe arrives at the beach. He asks a fisherman for work. Fisherman agrees to hire Felipe.

* Judge asks Juan about the trial and scandals. Juan explains his name for the trial and his status in the eyes of the townsfolk. Everyone starts to murmur again. Judge yells and bangs his gavel to get them to stop. Bailiff reads off the official list of charges against Juan and also reads that Juan’s only property the Luzbel was siezed and taken possession of by Renato. Juan’s buddies are stunned and horrified over losing the ship.

* Felipe gets seasick. Man scolds him. Felipe explains it’s been awhile since he’s been on a ship. Man yells at him to get to work. Felipe ties a rag on his head and gets to work ... in fast forward ... piling up the day’s catch and rearranging the nets.

* Renato addresses the Judge and jury with his opening remarks against Juan and on behalf of his own family, the Montes de Oca. Judge has to continually bang his gavel to stop the crowd from murmuring during the proceedings. Renato continues his statements and even announces that Juan is his cousin.

* Salma finds her way to the remains of the gypsy camp. The only one left there is Servando. Salma can’t believe Branko and Griselda aren’t there. She doesn’t trust Servando. She would rather be with Griselda. Servando works to convince her not to trust Griselda. Salma listens.

* Ren continues with his statements and his charges and arguments against Juan. Pedro and friends shout, “Liar! Liar!” in the courtroom. Judge gets control of his courtroom again and asks Juan if he has anything he wants to say in his own defense. Juan says yes, he does. Juan starts to make his own statements and arguments and throws out his own charges against Rodrigo Montes de Oca. People start to murmur. Judge bangs his gavel and then reminds Juan that he is the one on trial not Rod. Judge reminds Juan about the witnesses that can be presented for and against him. Juan understands.

* Lulu is out walking the streets looking for work - ladies slam doors or windows in her face.

* With her head totally hidden inside a green silk shawl, Aimee walks through the courthouse hallways with Celia looking for the courtroom where Juan’s trial is being held.

* Juan continues with his statements in his own defense and the defense of what he was doing (his Robin Hood style activities) on the high seas. Juan’s friends cheer. Judge bangs his gavel to control the crowd.

* Aimee finds the ship captain taking a cigarette break. She asks about the trial for Juan. He tells her to go inside herself to listen. She can’t do that. She asks him to be a gentleman and help her out.

* Juan addresses the jury and the Judge with his arguments. The crowd cheers. Judge gets upset with the cheering section. Juan explains himself. People cheer. Judge bangs his gavel and silences the crowd. Judge calls the first witness: Rodrigo Montes de Oca.

* Captain tells Aimee he can’t talk with her, he is a witness in the trial. She begs him to help do a huge favor for her. She wants him to sneak a note to Juan for her. He refuses. She begs and pleads with him to do this one little favor for her. She actually puts the note in his hands and refuses to let him say no. He wonders who she is and asks to see her face. Aimee refuses to take off her shawl mask. She leaves.

* Rod gives his statements against Juan to the Judge, jury and crowd. Rod requested to be a witness in order to make sure everyone knew what kind of low-class thief and scoundrel Juan really is. Judge settles down the crowd again and excuses Rod from the witness stand. Judge is ready to call the next witness when Regi jumps up and shouts that she wants to speak as a witness, as Juan’s wife. Ren is stunned.

* Lulu thinks she has found a job after talking with the man of the house. The man hides as his wife throws Lulu out of the house, then comes out to scold her husband.

* Ren argues with the Judge against Regi speaking. Juan and crowd cheer to let Regi speak. Judge bangs his gavel and yells for silence. Eloisa tries to talk Regina out of speaking, for the dignity of all wives everywhere. Ren says that she isn’t on his witness list so therefore she shouldn’t be allowed to speak. Noel apologizes to his son and then approaches the bench to argue that Regina should definitely be given the opportunity to speak on her husband’s behalf.

* Lulu is disappointed as she sits in the park and reflects on all the townsfolk rejecting her based on her past employment history. She is more determined than ever and refuses to give up Remiglio.

* Judge agrees to let Regi speak as a witness at the trial. Regi leaves to join the other witnesses. He then calls Captain to take the stand as the next witness.

* Out in the hallway, Ren scolds Regi for forcing her way into being a witness at the trial on Juan’s side. Regi scolds Ren for forcing her to do it. They argue. Ren has the idea that when Juan is completely out of the picture, Regi will be free -- and that maybe he may have a chance to be with her. Regi glares at him.

Hi Jody. Appreciate your double effort with CS and STuD. I'm back at the sidelines with this one until Juan and Regina actually get back together but am certainly looking forward to that. In the meantime, you're a trooper, and much appreciated.

Love the recap Jody. Thanks so much. Renato is really starting to piss me off. Why can't he get a clue? He needs to stop sniffing around her like she's a dog in heat. Seriously.

You're welcome, ladies.

Connie - ITA. Renato is really starting to annoy me for the same reasons you gave. Of course, I also shout the same thing at Aimee -- Get a clue and another life!

Jody :)

Thanks, Jody. I tried to stay up to watch last night, but I was just too tired. I'll watch later. I think that Team Renato doesn't have a chance against Team Juan...They're Number Juan, after all. I can't wait to see Felipe as a deckhand scooping up fish. That's a drastic career change, n'est-ce pas ? I hope that he's dropped the phony French accent. Aimee and Ren are cut from the same cloth.... Denial. I still can't figure out if Lulu will end up with Remigio or Noel. I hope Remigio doesn't die. Does he know that ''Malu'' the cook is actually Lulu the dancehall girl ? I am anxiouslt waiting for Old Rod to find out that Leo imprisoned MdR all these years and poisoned his young wifey. He'll probably strangle her with his own two hands.

Since CS got the midnight time slot I haven't been able to watch it and keep up with your great recaps and occasisonally watch YouTube. What has happened to Arcadio? Somehow I missed that. Sylvia de Georgia.

Thank you, Jody! I tried to get in here earlier, but couldn't get in. Thanks so much for your recap.

Renato is annoying me, too; he's so concerned about the mistake he made with Regina.

He should back up and take things in the right order and fix the mistake he made with Aimee first.

He's a married man. I can't stand married guys with wandering eyes; and that's what he boils down to.

He so admires Regina; he should take a tip from her and deal with the decisions he's made already.

He's as impulsive as Aimee. Personally, I think those two are still right for each other. He picked the one he really wanted the first time.

Sylvia, Arcadio left the finca literally in a blaze of inglory. He set the fields on fire and took off.

But most of us think he will be back; he has karma with Leonarda, and she is really ticked off at him for lying to her about killing her sister.

I agree with all - Renato is getting on my last nerve. He seriously believes that Regina will become his "amante" while he is still married to Aimee - get a grip.
I feel for Don Noel - he is struggling with helping Juan and going against his son - but I'm glad that he decided to represent Juan during the trial.
Juan gaze at Regina when she stood up was priceless. EY has such a way to envince so much emotion through a simple gaze.

Jody thanks for recap of last night. I actually was able to stay up and watch it and was thrilled to see Juan on longer than his usual 5 minutes. I'm definately for team Juan. Renato and Aimee are like two peas in a pod. Does she really think Juan would want to read anything she wrote. I think she has gone loco with her obsession for him. Loved Regina ripping up that document from Renato. Does anyone know the legal reason Renato seized the ship Luzbel from Juan? I'm sure Arcadia will resurface to get his revenge on both Leo and Rodrigo, and I can't wait to see them get their just rewards.

Thanks for the recap Jody :)!

Connie - Renato has beyond pissed me off; when he entered Noel's office with the annulment paper and Reggie picked up the pen I was hoping she would stab him in the hand (or worse) with it, but alas she only threw it aside. At least she ripped up the paper right in his face :) And I was also so glad to hear her tell him to keep his hands off of her, and that she is loyal to Juan :)

Felipe was pitiful as a fisherman; he absolutely needs to find a new line of work.

In regards to Lulu, I missed the beginning of CS so I don't know much about her and how she has related to Remigio and Noel in the past, beyond the fact that she and Remigio were currently involved in a serious relationship. However, I must say that I find Lulu much too young for either Remigio or Noel, and although I think she winds up with Noel, for me Noel needs a woman who is just a bit older, with more education, someone like Regina- not that he is a snob, I'm being it for him :) I just don't know which remaining CS woman is right for him.

Jimena looked so lovely without her usual kerchief on- I don't know if anyone else sees this but I see a 'resemblance' between her and Mariela. I can't wait until Mariela finds out the truth!

That darn Salma- she's another one I am sick of! Wouldn't it be fitting if Leo, Rod, Renato, Aimee and Salma were thrown into a pit of poisonous snakes??

I am so enjoying reliving the episodes daily in the recaps, giving me a CS fix until the next episode! Thanks to all of the recappers for all of your hard work keeping us both informed and amused :)

Marisol

Marisol, with both actresses smiling, I see the resemblance between Jimena and Mariela, too. The two of them look very much alike when they smile, I think.

Salma is definitely the gawky, black-feathered Cowbird baby in the little field-sparrow's nest.

Thank you soooooo much, Jody! :) You're very nice for giving us a recap.

Summary: (long ones at last)
part 1
part 2

One simple question: when did Renatonto finish law school? Last night? I thought he spent all his life at home with Mom.
Telenovela trials kill me, and this one is one of the craziest circuses I've ever seen and I enjoyed it... most of the time.
And please, someone burn Reggie's newest yellow tablecloth.

Btw, the judge is Julio Alemán, the narrator from the first months, and he also played Juan del Diablo decades ago.

.They're Number Juan, after all.
:))

Jody, thank you for your recaps which I enjoy so much. This novela is terrific even on its slow days and I noticed some new intriguing dramatic music which I liked during some of the scenes.

As mentioned Aimee is obsessed with Juan. Obsession is a MdO trait and not a good one: Rod for MdR, Leo for Rod, Ren for Reggie, Aimee for Juan, Reggie for Ren for most of her life and a diary's worth of mooning and Juan for vengeance against the MdOs. Reggie and Juan seem to be overcoming this obsession with their love for each other.

Phillipe (Felipe) was LOL when he became seasick and hung his head over the side of the boat retching. Then they panned to a larger scene and we realize the boat is still sitting in the sand on the shore. He is definitely not cut out to be a fisherman. Perhaps he would be a good valet but for a another rich family in Vera Cruz besides the crazy MdOs.

Will Juan be convinced by Reggie's testimony that she did not reveal his whereabouts for his arrest in cahoots with Renato. That smile shows he may be less convinced of her involvement.

Thank you Jody for the recap!

The looks between Juan and Regi were great - they both were softened once they saw each other, and maybe Juan is beginning to realize she didn't betray him. She still thinks he loves Aimee, though. Somehow she doesn't seem to have seen him push her away, or the damage had already been done.

Aimee, arrrghhh! Obsesssion obsession obsesssion! I am worried about that note. Is the captain actually going to give it to him? Her makeshift veil was pretty goofy, though.

So glad Noel has decided to represent Juan. The judge doesn't seem particularly favorable towards the MdO's somehow.

Thank you Jody! Yep. Renato is really getting annoying. How many times does Regina have to say NO. Maybe she should get a pocketknife and carve it on his forehead the way Servando has that star. Then every time he looks in the mirror he can read "I said NO, Renato".

I too, am wondering how Renato got possession of the Luzbel? Was the ship part of Juan's bail that was revoked by Renato's bribes?

Felipe and Lulu should get back together at the casino. She could do what she likes - cook - and he could do what he likes - produce shows - and they could open the very first Mexican dinner theater. The casino is all set up for it! Problem solved.

So Brainless decided to come to the trial. I can't believe her disguise... who skulks around in bright emerald green? Yeah, that's not subtle... why don't you just wear blaze orange instead? I want to know: did Aimless promise the captain sexual favors for his help? She was getting awfully close to him...

Thank you Jeri for the calendar of the remaining episodes. Wow! we only have one more month of late nights to go before the end.

Thanks Aribeth for the link to the video summaries and the galleries.

Jody :)

Thank you for the recap Jody. How many times does Regina have to tell Renato that she loves Juan. Get it through your head dude. When he grabbed Regina's arm, Juan yelled at him not to touch his wife. Renato is really getting on my nerves and Rod is so full of himself. I'm looking forward to Regina taking the stand. Aimee get a clue. Juan doesn't want you so stop with the childish games of passing notes. Leave him alone. Looking forward to more fireworks tonight.

xint --
IMO, Ren got the ship when Juan and his men were arrested. They went back to port with the captain and guards on the soldiers' ship. Ren sailed back to port with Regi on the "Luzbel".

Jody :)

I don't think sexual favors were promised, but I'm guessing she would have had it been necessary. Might have solved her non-pregnant problem, too! But he's too nice a guy for that anyway.

xlnt - love your proposal for Filipe and Lulu!

Aribeth, I was wondering the same thing. When did Renato become a lawyer and isn't it a conflict of interest since he and Juan are related. I guess I'll need to adjust my beanie for that one. I'm glad Noel decided to represent Juan even though he knows it will strain his relationship with Renato. Anon 10:48 I too loved the look Juan gave Regina when she stood up and said she would testify on his behalf.

xlnt:
Maybe she should get a pocketknife and carve it on his forehead the way Servando has that star. Then every time he looks in the mirror he can read "I said NO, Renato".
LOL!!!

Pirate Babe:
When did Renato become a lawyer and isn't it a conflict of interest since he and Juan are related.

Since we're talking about a criminal trial, of course it's a conflict of interest, at least in my country. :) And the father of the accuser defends the accused? Wtf?

Thanks for the recap Jody.

ITA that Renato is an idiot. As so many of you have stated, he and Aimee were really meant for one another w/their selfish obsessions!!

I know we have a month to go but I want Salma to be revealed as a fraud now!

thanks Jody for the great recap
I liked this eppy b/c the main characters used more facial expressions to convey what they felt. Regina looking at
Renato with disdain them at Juan with love was great.
but I think Loenarda looks were priceless you could just tell that she didnt care and didnt want to be there.

WTH kind of court system only have witnesses give their opinion on an accused? I cant believe that this type of system really works or even exist.

Loved seeing Regina stand up for Juan and him standing up for her when Renato grabbed her.

Jody Renee, this recap is also delicious. How you do it (2 recaps in one night) is a mystery to me. Thanks.

I saw the first few minutes of this last night and now I'm looking forward to the rest when I get home.
I'm especially looking forward to Felipe in his new job.

Renato's persistence blows me away. He really believes that Regina still loves him and he is like a petulant child who just won't give it up.

With the time left in the show, I'll not be surprised if Juan is convicted and is sentenced to prison.

I also predict that Renato will repent in the end and end up sacrificing his life for Juan or Regina or maybe both. Meanwhile, he'll continue driving us nuts with his whiny sniffing around Regina.

Sarah and Ivy, I too will miss your recaps. Thanks for sharing your talents with us.

Carlos

I refuse to say anything more about Renato and his childish behavior. Regina's love for him was a schoolgirl dream whereas her love for Juan is grown-up womanly love; passionate and enduring. The look that Juan gave Regina when she stood up to defend him was priceless. It said very clearly for all to see how proud Juan was of his wife. And had he not been in chains when Renato grabbed Regina, he would have come out of the prisoner box and taken off the sorry excuse for a man's head. I actually would have loved to have seen that. I'm afraid that when Regina takes the stand, the uncouth Renato will bring up the fact that she and Juan have not yet consummated the marriage. Ugh!!!

Excuse my manners. Sarah and Ivy, thank you for all your time and effort in writing such great recaps for C S. I truly appreciated them. I hope you will have the time to comment. or just keep up with C S.

GinCA

I couldn't help but notice that Eloisa told Regina not to speak on Juan's behalf. How true to type that the woman who is plotting her own husband's death wouldn't want the public to see any other woman defending her husband. I have a feeling Eloisa is going to get hers very soon.

anon. I too think mariela and jimena look alike. Possible really mom and daughter. I don't understand why mariela doesn't see where salma does not look like any of their family and her hair is totally different then the mother's as well. Regarding Renato, I am hoping that in the end, to show his love and respect for regina, he calls off his charges against Juan. That would redeem him in everyone's eyes but Aimees.

Jody: Thanks again for your recap! I missed the first twenty minutes and appreciated your 'cap being able to fill me in! You capture so much so succintly! A terrific talent I wish I had! : > }

I could have done without the Frenchy clowning around on the fishing boat. A reall FF>> moment.

I've also had my fill of both Renato and Aimee. Too little of Regi and Juan enjoying their well earned nights of passion!

Julio Aleman is also the lawyer in STuD. I've looked at the pictures of him in his youth and have a hard time imagining him as a Juan del Diablo. JMO. Guess you sort of had to be there and watch it to see the embodiment come to life or whatever....

Noel might end up with Jimena's mother, but I think Martin might get the jump on him there. Dunno.
