La Fea Más Bella #17-18 9/23/10 Ali and Olly Ally.

Read Chris's original recap. Note, that recap covers Caps 16 and 17. Cap 17 starts at the paragraph that begins, “The next day Omar is hanging out.”

Capitulo 17

1. Ariel orders Olarte to get the financial data somehow, then he bullies Alicia. Fernando tells Omar to keep Alicia close so she doesn’t become Ariel’s spy.

2. Olarte and Alicia agree that if Lety looks good in tomorrow’s meeting, the two of them have lost. They’ll join forces to bring her down. Ali tries to get the balance from Lety.

3. Luigi and Fernando scrap about production costs and quality.

4. Fernando offers Lety a ride home, but first dancing, then to his place to work. But it’s a fantasy. Fernando takes a model dancing and Marcia finds out that he left work more than an hour ago.

5. Marcia rants about Lety to his parents. She’s undermining Marcia’s authority and Fern dared take Lety to the club. She’s bewitched him; who knows where it will end? MamaT counsels Marcia to separate emotional relationships from work or she’ll lose.

6. Lety tells MamaJ about her promotion. Tomas speculates that Lety is coming between Fernando and Marcia; she should be proud of such a feat.

7. Lety admits to Tom that she’s going to cook the books. If she doesn’t, Fernando will lose the presidency and she’ll lose her job. Tomas thinks that Alicia just needs a man who understands her.

8. Omar gets dressed to leave Ali’s apartment. She wants him to move in.

9. Olarte tries to break into Lety’s computer but her files are protected so he brings in the IT guy.

Capitulo 18

Read Chris's original recap. Note, that recap covers Caps 18, 19, and 20. If you don’t want to read ahead, stop at the paragraph that begins, “Paula calls a friend at another company.” That marks the beginning of Cap 19.

1. Ortiz, the IT guy, can’t crack Lety’s passwords. Olarte tells him not to tell anyone about their effort.

2. The cheap child model that Omar hired called in sick. They get Lola’s daughter to substitute.

3. Fernando calls a meeting with Marcia and Luigi to try to placate them before the committee meeting. They both complain that in making so many commercials, quality has suffered. He asks both to not complain at the meeting.

4. Olarte stalls Lety in his office so Alicia can sabotage Lety’s computer.

5. Fernando and Marcia come to a truce about Lety and Alicia, so that Marcia won’t turn against him in the meeting. He seems so sincere, but his happy dance when she leaves tells us it was just a manipulation.

6. Fernando freaks because Lety’s computer crashed, and she can’t print the balance for the meeting. She doesn’t have a back-up disk. Ortiz insists on having Lety’s passwords. He tells the committee that the computer problem was probably caused by operator misuse.

Comments:
After Ariel bullies Alicia, Fernando teases Omar that he’s disturbed because, “En mi pueblo (where I come from) se llama, ‘pedaleando la bicicleta ajena’ (pedaling a bicycle that isn’t yours).” IOW taking someone else’s woman. Then Fernando imitates two people. One seems to be a Mexican government figure, and the other, Spanish royalty. Does anyone know who he’s imitating?

Sergio scores again! When Fernando is in Luigi’s office, Sergio cracks up Camil just after he swings his scarf. I don’t even know what the joke is, but Camil is suppressing laughter repeatedly through the scene.

Lety & Alicia wear virtually the same dress on the day of committee meeting. That seems to indicate something very important between the two of them, but I don't know what. Any guesses?

Jaime Camil did a 30-minute chat yesterday. Here is the link. Tuesday he announced he's doing a project for Univision in late November but he couldn't give details.

Hi Paula. Today was fun especially with Fernando strangling Letty's stuffed bear. I think when I watched the first time I fast forwarded a lot of stuff but because I am recording it I am watching all of it.

thanks for the Camil link. I started watching it but didn't get a chance to see the whole think I will go back and finish sometime later tonight. Was he speaking Portaguese at the beginning?

So just wanted to say hi and thanks again.

Thanks for the "En mi pueblo....." phrase. Wonderful. Missed this today. Forgot to set "record" and turn on TV. Ay yi yi.

Yes, Pata. Portaguese - he likes to play around with it. His mother is Brazilian. As a child he'd spend part of the year there, so he grew up bilingual and later added French and English. This summer he acquired dual citizenship.

Thanks, Paula. After the first hour of LFMB, Univision cut off for about two hours. Called my cable system and they said it wasn't them, it was Univision and I should contact them.
Arrrgh!
La Paloma

Take heart, Paloma. Today's 2nd cap kinda' dragged, so you didn't miss much.

Yesterday Alicia asked Marcia, "Do you think there is something going on between Fernando and Lety?" Today MamaT asked Marcia the same thing.

Paloma and Judy, I hope you don't miss tomorrow's cap's. The second one has some great moments.

I think my favorite scene from tonight was when Omar and Fernando kept pushing and whacking each other during their conversation. They kept one-upping each other and it looked very natural, like it was unscripted. Those two have great physical comedy with each other.

Paula, thank you for translating "pedaleando la bicicleta". I didn't quite get the meaning while watching it. Was Fernando imitating Vicente Fox? He sounded like him and the hand gestures were very similar. I don't have a clue about the Spanish royalty.

Sylvia, I love the "En mi pueblo" part. I think I learned that phrase from Fea, and I use it all the time. The part that 'beat my lips' was "ajena" - something that belongs to someone else. I love finding those words in one language with no equivalent in the other.

It was indeed funny that Lety and Alicia were wearing such similar outfits. Same but different. Lety looked the best she's ever looked so far; fairly simple dress and matching cardigan. Alicia looked like she was trying too hard...to distract from the fact that she can't land a triple axel.

My favorite scene was Fernando's nervous breakdown and mistreatment of the stuffed bear in Lety's office. That poor bear...choked, crushed, beaten, and hung.

I didn't quite catch what was going on when Lety gave her password to the IT guy. It was something about Fernando, right? Which is now public knowledge and probably embarrassing.

The IT guy was funny. All the negative stereotypes associated with IT guys, basically. He's telling Lety it will take a long time to fix her computer - while he's leaning back in his chair, not even looking at the thing.

I think the "significance" of Ali and Lety wearing similar dresses was just to heighten the contrast between them and their sense of *coughcough* style. Doesn't Alicia even make a snide remark to Fern about it in his office? (ICBW, I was FFing like crazy, I didn't hear it but I thought I saw her gesture at her own dress to point out how "elegant" she is.) Sort of doing that "Alicia is the opposite of Lety, so that even when they wear the same kind of dress, it has the opposite effect."

That makes sense, Julie. The dresses highlight that they are the same but opposite. Ali has the trappings of being high class but inside she's trailer trash. Lety comes from a lower economic class but she comports herself with high class.

I replayed the exchange when Fernando met with Marcia to convince her not to complain at the meeting. Loose translation.
Marcia: Please don't be blind. Lety is brilliant but she doesn't have any class.
Fern: Do you think Alicia has class, in the things she said in the bathroom? Or in how she poisons you against Lety? Or in how she tries to gain, through intrigue, what Lety has gained through hard work and study?

Julia,
Alicia looked like she was trying too hard...to distract from the fact that she can't land a triple axel.
ROFLOL!! too funny!!

I didn't quite catch what was going on when Lety gave her password to the IT guy. It was something about Fernando, right? Which is now public knowledge and probably embarrassing.
The problem is not personal information. The problem is that Lety has saved both the REAL numbers AND the Doctored numbers, so if the content of her computer got to a guy like Olarte, they would find out she is doctoring the company balances to make it look like Fernando is achieving his goals... when he is clearly not.

Paula, another second Sergio got one over Jaime was when they were all in board room (before Luigi left Marcia and Fernando alone there) Luigi says something that his 'creativity' cannot work unless he has the things he asked for... you see Jaime putting a hand over the side of his face like really trying hard to hold the laughter since everytime Sergio starts out with his 'manners' Jaime almost loses it.

as far as interesting phrases.. Fernando tells Irmita that the girl Luigi had chosen was asking for too much (not only salary) and he said 'las perlas de la virgen' (the pearls of the virgin), that basically means this girl was playing the J-Lo asking for everything but the kitchen sink in order for her to do the 'bike' commercial.

Lety did seem very embarrassed though in the conversation about her password. It's probably something like "DonFernandoTanDivino" or "<3<3<3FernandLety<3<3<3".

LOL yeah you're right, maybe her passwords would have been embarrassing... lol
