La Fea Más Bella #103-104 11/24/10 The Red Bag

Capitulo 103.
Read Julie’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Fernando is brooding on something when Marcia calls. First she harangues about him meeting some honey, then she tells him to use their time apart to think whether he really wants to marry her. He says she has no idea how pensive / thoughtful he’s been (about that) ever since he got home.

2. Lety tells her diary that every day Fernando feels closer to her, and she believes that now he really is in love with her. She says, “I can’t imagine losing him,” while Marcia whines to him, “I don’t want to lose you.”

3. Fernando dreams that Ariel took his presidency and can swat him with lightening bolts because he has the proof of the embargo. His parents found the red bag and The Letter, and Mama calls him a bad son.

4. Alicia talks pillow talk to the love of her life, her Mercedes. She takes her red bag of jewelry to her desk.

5. Omar suggests that maybe Lety found the red bag, and that makes Fernando start worrying. Then he sees the red bag under Alicia’s desk and he tries to separate it from her. She tells him the bag holds what will pay her debts and rescue her from poverty. Now he’s really worried that she’ll blackmail him with the letter.

6. While they’re house hunting, someone is stalking Erasmo: a cougar in leopard print name Matilde. Meanwhile Lety has an ugly fantasy where the newlyweds kissy-face in the bedroom and Fern tells Marcia that Lety was just a fling; how could he possibly love someone as ugly as her?

7. Fernando swipes Alicia’s red bag from the bathroom, but Ali blames Juana.

Capitulo 104.
Read Julie’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Tom says he’s engaged to Lety to keep Matilde at bay. Tom says Lety pushes him around without regard for his feelings, and I say he’s right.

2. Fernando takes Alicia’s red bag to his office, and every time he tries to open it, someone barges in and Fernando has to ditch the bag, each time funnier than the last. Ali says he should’ve loaned her money, and Fern thinks it’s a request for blackmail payoff.

3. The cuartel pleads for Juana’s job, and Sara cracks up Camil for reals; he doesn’t even try to hide it. Alicia catches Fernando trying to put her red bag back.

4. Matilde takes video of Tom and Lety as a couple. The cuartel takes up a collection for Alicia’s poverty, just to humiliate her.

5. Fernando sits at Lety’s desk to feel close to her. He calls her house and finds out she’s with Tomás. Un hombre muy, pero MUY celoso reaches Lety on Tom’s cell phone.

Thank you, Pata, for the screenshot. I confess, I requested that one because Fernando looks particularly fine today!

When Alicia is with Luigi in postproduction, I think his dog (in the room, not the video) is a person in a dog suit. Usually she’s a real dog, but a few times, she’s not. Strange!

Fernando doesn’t have his Lety at his side at night, and he’s brooding, he has nightmares, and he’s unsettled by what Omar says. She’s not at his side in the morning, and you can just see that his world is not right without her. Pobre Don Fernando.

Notice that her jewelry is the only thing the Alicia has from her mother, and she’s willing to sell that because her Mercedes really is the love of her life.

That is a particularly fine pic! Thanks for that, Pata!

I'm laughing at my recap where I apparently noticed the Moty paraphernalia for the first time. How did I not notice all that stuff sooner? I mean, that bright pink pocketbook, I must have been blind!!

I have to say that these filler episodes are fun to watch when they have Fernando acting so goofy. He is also very nimble in a suit. did anyone notice how he flipped over and onto the couch in his office and did not look like a stunt double? He reminds me of Ryan Reynolds who is also hot and funny. I am also surprised with all the ads conceptos has no one is doing any work. I wish at times my office was like conceptos not much will get done but it would be so much fun!
Jenn

Thanks for the post Paula and thank you Julie for the recap. I have to admitt Don Fernando has a very nice profile, especially when he isn't wearing one of his jackets.

I never paid much attention to these episodes before but watching them today found them quite amusing. The office scenes where he kept getting interupted were pretty funny and Don Fernando was indeed on fire.

I had forgotten about his answering Marcias call and saying Lety's name. I was cracking up. Also when he hung up and was giggling at the fact that he had done that. Very cute.

Also Thought it was pretty funny when Paula Maria was talking with him and said are you thinking the same thing I am? Referring to the famous change of "Luke."

So is there LFMB on Friday? They announced previews for Monday. My guide still shows LFMB on Fri but not Thurs. Oh well will just have to wait and see.

Good Lord we have to wait four days for another dose of the tan divino Fern so what do we get today? Endless shrieking and stupidity with cuartel and more lunacy with Tomas. The only good scenes were fern brooding and then calling Julietta to get info on were Lety was.

The red bag Omar lab stuff got old hours ago so why drag it out.

Alicia and her talking to her father is very interesting and I can only think back to how many comments have been made about cars and how they represent freedom. Alicia in a cab or worse on one of those ghastly buses is more than she can handle so mama's jewellery has to go. How very sad.

Have a great Thanksgiving all.

Hi everybody. Just listened to this on my earphones while doing some more pre-Thanksgiving cooking so I missed Fernando's vault onto the couch. Dang. My favorite scenes of him though are when he's just in a white t-shirt and pants, cuddling with Lety. Or any of his kisses with those beautiful hands of his cradling her face. Now...where was I? Oh yes....

We at Llena are desperately searching for someone to alternate weeks with Carlos. He stepped in to recap Friday's episodes after Chris Ferro got too busy. But Carlos is busy too and really needs to alternate.

Y'all know that Carlos is the absolute dearest kindest funniest guy in the world so if you'd like to come to his rescue, let me or Sylvia know. You can find our emails by clicking on our names.

Great screen shot. Can it get any better? I think not.

I love the character of Matilde! Her hair is amazing; kind of like a gigantic brioche. Is this a cameo or does she return? Is she a well-known actress? She's fabulously obnoxious. Or obnoxiously fabulous.

Has anyone ever mentioned the art that Lopez has in his office? It's an odd choice for an HR Professional. Two lovelies in bathing suits hanging out in a hammock doing nothing. It's a Diego Rivera so of course it's art, but still. Then again the doing nothing is very much in line with Conceptos.

Thank you Paula, Pata, Julie and Amanda for this evening's recaps.

We now have an alternate Friday recapper for Llena. Hooray. This good news really made my Thanksgiving (although the turkey etc. helped a little).

I have nothing to add to the conversation, but I keep coming to this page and scrolling down to look at the picture. Why weren't any of the black Friday sales offering one of those?

I'm not sure what it is that made Fernando particularly "appealing" in the scene at his house, but I see I'm not the only one who thought so. (Thank you again, Pata, for the great photo.) I wonder if part of it is that now he's a man in love. I'll tell you this: as the series proceeds, he gets more and more guapo.

Paula you are so right about how Fern gets more guapo as we go along. I came in late, haven't reached the part yet but by then OMG was he gorgeous.

Oddly enough i liked Lety originally but as she began her growth I found her unappealing for a good part of the later parts of LFMB. Will be interested to see if i have that reaction this time around.

Well, queridas amigas, regarding next week's episodes, I have good news and I have bad news. The good news? Two of the best cap's in the series are coming up next week. The bad news? Three of the worst are also coming. But take heart. I'll post a warning the day before, so you don't have to record the stinkers if you don't want to.

decie girl, don't tell me, lemme' guess. The parts where you found Lety unappealing were the parts not in the Colombian original and therefore not written by Gaitán, right? i.e. the last 50 episodes. Gaitán's character development is spectacular, but when the Mexican had to stray from the original plot for the sake of extension, the resulting characters were a mess. Note that the most inconsistent character of the series was the one who strayed the farthest from from Gaitán's original concept.

Fea newbies, let me know if you don't want me talking like this about parts you haven't seen yet, and I'll stop.

Actually Paula H. as a fea newbie I enjoy your insight into the series and it helps explain some of the inconsistencies in the series. I kinda wish I had seen the original which apparently had more depth. I do enjoy the comedy in this one and find myself laughing out loud esp. at Lety who has such talent. I also enjoy Fernando though sometimes wonder if he has to put all that goo in his hair! He must have a deal with some hair product company or else it is costing someone a fortune!
Jenn.

So, Jenn, are you thinking Fernando needs to take a shower and wash out all that goo?

Actually I don't think I've ever seen Camil do a shower scene - those are TBLMOE's domain. In fact, IMHO Camil looks better IN a shirt than OUT of one. He wears clothes well.

And Jenn, Camil actually did commercials this year from Ego men's hair care products, a shampoo and a hair gel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiHv45SjXEw and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpArl3mjdRQ&feature=related .
But I'm quite sure that's not what he used in Fea (jiji). In fact, in one episode he joked that he buys his hair grease by the gallon. And didn't he once joke that he was born in a necktie and hair grease?

Ha ha, remembering that shower scene in STuD still makes me laugh, months later. NO ONE enjoys his shower as much as Jose Miguel. I'm surprised Uni didn't censor it; it was quite the Herbal Essences bit.

Paula you are correct. The extension hurt the pacing and I think damaged some of the characters especially Lety. On the other hand it improved Omar.

Too bad we have to cope with the bad in order to enjoy the good. I can only assume it means an overdose of the shrieking, nosy and frankly nasty cuartel and/or their brats. Sigh maybe I will tape this week so i can fast forward through the dreck.

Julia actually I have to agree with Paula and say that I think Camil looks better in clothes then out of them. He does not do shirtless as well as Colunga for some reason. But the hair grease does bother me it is my own personal bias. Besides doesn't it make him look sleazy and I can't help but wonder if it drips down his neck and does Vale have to wash her hands when ever they make out and she touches his head?? And then when their heads are together some of his grease rubbing off on her! Besides he has beautiful sexy curly hair that he should be proud of!
Jenn
P.S. thanks Paula for the link to the commercials. Camil is the consummate performer. Is there nothing he has not done? He is apparently hosting this game show on Univision too.

Jenn, I agree, both about the clothed look being more appealing (actually I think this about most men, galáns included, but the public demands its shirtlessness), and that untouchable hair goo is not sexy.

I've always said, if I see Camil bare chested, I'll tell Colunga to give him the shirt off his back, and they'll both look better for it! jiji

The hair thing? I think it's cultural. It seems t be a popular style in Mex. Perhaps on a subconscious level, it proves to women that you're young and healthy - it's hard (but not impossible) to hide a receeding hairline. But Camil's mop is not easily tamed, so it takes a ton of oil to keep it straight at that length. He only wears it that way for roles, never IRL.

"Is there nothing he has not done?" He's done radio, singing, Broadway, movies, TN's, reality show host (he hated it), variety show host, and game show host coming up. He sings well, dances well, moves like a dream, can deliver a whole monologue with only facial expressions, is a natural at comedy even without a script, and is very smart like all the best comedians. What can he NOT do well? Hmm. He has silly calves. He can't sit still, or even keep his hands quiet. He can't stand disorder. He has trouble being second banana. He can't dance badly and probably can't even move awkwardly. Oh, and one more, his beard grows in splotchy. That's about all I can think of.

My Paula you seem to know Camil very well!! You had me in stitches. I completely agree Colunga shirtless and Camil shirt on! silly calves?!! so pants on too. I wonder if he has ADHD?
Jenn

Jenn, Was Moses Jewish???

I like to call it ADOS: Attention deficit... Ooh! Shiney!

I don't usually like the look of greased-up hair, but I think Camil looks much better with his hair slicked down. There were publicity photos of him for LFMB with his hair relatively untamed and curly and it just made him look like he was wearing a carpeted helmet. With his hair smoothed down, his face stands out more without the distraction of a gigantic mane.

Julie I agree with you about the slicked down hair versus the curly mop. But surely there must be a happy medium somewhere where he doesn't have to look like he felt into the deep fryer. Oddly enough there are times in LFMB where it is hardly noticeable but the other day it was drippingly awful

As for the Camil Colunga shirt off question. Colunga is a notorious gym rat, Camil is not. I think that pretty much says it all.

paula, would you believe this is JEA?
http://noveleros.com/actors/jorge-enrique-abello/photos/pg1

on a more serious note, something in common JEA and Camil have is they look great in white shirt and black pants
http://www.fanpix.net/picture-gallery/jorge-enrique-abello-picture-10356559.htm

Decie girl, now it adds up. The scene last week where Fernando said goodbye to Omar who was leaving for Germany, there were gobs of goop on his hair. That was the worst I've seen it, by far.

Marta, I agree, that's one fine picture of JEA. The second link, not the first one. jiji.
