La Fea Más Bella #103-104 11/24/10 The Red Bag
Read Julie’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.
1. Fernando is brooding on something when Marcia calls. First she harangues about him meeting some honey, then she tells him to use their time apart to think whether he really wants to marry her. He says she has no idea how pensive / thoughtful he’s been (about that) ever since he got home.
2. Lety tells her diary that every day Fernando feels closer to her, and she believes that now he really is in love with her. She says, “I can’t imagine losing him,” while Marcia whines to him, “I don’t want to lose you.”
3. Fernando dreams that Ariel took his presidency and can swat him with lightening bolts because he has the proof of the embargo. His parents found the red bag and The Letter, and Mama calls him a bad son.
4. Alicia talks pillow talk to the love of her life, her Mercedes. She takes her red bag of jewelry to her desk.
5. Omar suggests that maybe Lety found the red bag, and that makes Fernando start worrying. Then he sees the red bag under Alicia’s desk and he tries to separate it from her. She tells him the bag holds what will pay her debts and rescue her from poverty. Now he’s really worried that she’ll blackmail him with the letter.
6. While they’re house hunting, someone is stalking Erasmo: a cougar in leopard print name Matilde. Meanwhile Lety has an ugly fantasy where the newlyweds kissy-face in the bedroom and Fern tells Marcia that Lety was just a fling; how could he possibly love someone as ugly as her?
7. Fernando swipes Alicia’s red bag from the bathroom, but Ali blames Juana.
Capitulo 104.
Read Julie’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.
1. Tom says he’s engaged to Lety to keep Matilde at bay. Tom says Lety pushes him around without regard for his feelings, and I say he’s right.
2. Fernando takes Alicia’s red bag to his office, and every time he tries to open it, someone barges in and Fernando has to ditch the bag, each time funnier than the last. Ali says he should’ve loaned her money, and Fern thinks it’s a request for blackmail payoff.
3. The cuartel pleads for Juana’s job, and Sara cracks up Camil for reals; he doesn’t even try to hide it. Alicia catches Fernando trying to put her red bag back.
4. Matilde takes video of Tom and Lety as a couple. The cuartel takes up a collection for Alicia’s poverty, just to humiliate her.
5. Fernando sits at Lety’s desk to feel close to her. He calls her house and finds out she’s with Tomás. Un hombre muy, pero MUY celoso reaches Lety on Tom’s cell phone.

When Alicia is with Luigi in postproduction, I think his dog (in the room, not the video) is a person in a dog suit. Usually she’s a real dog, but a few times, she’s not. Strange!
Fernando doesn’t have his Lety at his side at night, and he’s brooding, he has nightmares, and he’s unsettled by what Omar says. She’s not at his side in the morning, and you can just see that his world is not right without her. Pobre Don Fernando.
Notice that her jewelry is the only thing the Alicia has from her mother, and she’s willing to sell that because her Mercedes really is the love of her life.
I'm laughing at my recap where I apparently noticed the Moty paraphernalia for the first time. How did I not notice all that stuff sooner? I mean, that bright pink pocketbook, I must have been blind!!

I never paid much attention to these episodes before but watching them today found them quite amusing. The office scenes where he kept getting interupted were pretty funny and Don Fernando was indeed on fire.
I had forgotten about his answering Marcias call and saying Lety's name. I was cracking up. Also when he hung up and was giggling at the fact that he had done that. Very cute.
Also Thought it was pretty funny when Paula Maria was talking with him and said are you thinking the same thing I am? Referring to the famous change of "Luke."
So is there LFMB on Friday? They announced previews for Monday. My guide still shows LFMB on Fri but not Thurs. Oh well will just have to wait and see.
The red bag Omar lab stuff got old hours ago so why drag it out.
Alicia and her talking to her father is very interesting and I can only think back to how many comments have been made about cars and how they represent freedom. Alicia in a cab or worse on one of those ghastly buses is more than she can handle so mama's jewellery has to go. How very sad.
Have a great Thanksgiving all.
We at Llena are desperately searching for someone to alternate weeks with Carlos. He stepped in to recap Friday's episodes after Chris Ferro got too busy. But Carlos is busy too and really needs to alternate.
Y'all know that Carlos is the absolute dearest kindest funniest guy in the world so if you'd like to come to his rescue, let me or Sylvia know. You can find our emails by clicking on our names.
I love the character of Matilde! Her hair is amazing; kind of like a gigantic brioche. Is this a cameo or does she return? Is she a well-known actress? She's fabulously obnoxious. Or obnoxiously fabulous.
Has anyone ever mentioned the art that Lopez has in his office? It's an odd choice for an HR Professional. Two lovelies in bathing suits hanging out in a hammock doing nothing. It's a Diego Rivera so of course it's art, but still. Then again the doing nothing is very much in line with Conceptos.
Thank you Paula, Pata, Julie and Amanda for this evening's recaps.
Oddly enough i liked Lety originally but as she began her growth I found her unappealing for a good part of the later parts of LFMB. Will be interested to see if i have that reaction this time around.
decie girl, don't tell me, lemme' guess. The parts where you found Lety unappealing were the parts not in the Colombian original and therefore not written by Gaitán, right? i.e. the last 50 episodes. Gaitán's character development is spectacular, but when the Mexican had to stray from the original plot for the sake of extension, the resulting characters were a mess. Note that the most inconsistent character of the series was the one who strayed the farthest from from Gaitán's original concept.
Fea newbies, let me know if you don't want me talking like this about parts you haven't seen yet, and I'll stop.
Jenn.
And Jenn, Camil actually did commercials this year from Ego men's hair care products, a shampoo and a hair gel.

But I'm quite sure that's not what he used in Fea (jiji). In fact, in one episode he joked that he buys his hair grease by the gallon. And didn't he once joke that he was born in a necktie and hair grease?
Too bad we have to cope with the bad in order to enjoy the good. I can only assume it means an overdose of the shrieking, nosy and frankly nasty cuartel and/or their brats. Sigh maybe I will tape this week so i can fast forward through the dreck.
Jenn
P.S. thanks Paula for the link to the commercials. Camil is the consummate performer. Is there nothing he has not done? He is apparently hosting this game show on Univision too.
The hair thing? I think it's cultural. It seems t be a popular style in Mex. Perhaps on a subconscious level, it proves to women that you're young and healthy - it's hard (but not impossible) to hide a receeding hairline. But Camil's mop is not easily tamed, so it takes a ton of oil to keep it straight at that length. He only wears it that way for roles, never IRL.
"Is there nothing he has not done?" He's done radio, singing, Broadway, movies, TN's, reality show host (he hated it), variety show host, and game show host coming up. He sings well, dances well, moves like a dream, can deliver a whole monologue with only facial expressions, is a natural at comedy even without a script, and is very smart like all the best comedians. What can he NOT do well? Hmm. He has silly calves. He can't sit still, or even keep his hands quiet. He can't stand disorder. He has trouble being second banana. He can't dance badly and probably can't even move awkwardly. Oh, and one more, his beard grows in splotchy. That's about all I can think of.
Jenn
As for the Camil Colunga shirt off question. Colunga is a notorious gym rat, Camil is not. I think that pretty much says it all.

on a more serious note, something in common JEA and Camil have is they look great in white shirt and black pants

Marta, I agree, that's one fine picture of JEA. The second link, not the first one. jiji.
