La Fea Más Bella #203-204 2/8/11 Lety rises above her adversaries

Capitulo 203.
Read Chapel Hill Fiddler’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Lopez gives Tom an office with a real door, not just a door for Harvey. Tom is jealous when he sees Ali flirt with Aldo. Lopez installs Lety in the presidencia.

2. Aldo blocks Fernando’s way. He introduces himself then leaves rudely. Fern doesn’t like that guy; he’s arrogant. He gets stuck on the name. Must be foreign.

3. Lety shows her father the cave. He’s offended that she worked in there, but she shows off its wonders. He ends up preferring the cave.

4. Omar the Imbecile tells why Fern can win Lety back. Fern says that she won’t listen to him. She thinks he said those things to manipulate her regarding Conceptos, and he implies that’s Omar’s fault. All she wants is to forget about him.

5. Omar suggests that a woman can’t fall out of love that fast. Fern says of course she can, after what they did to her. She’s changed. He doesn’t want to torment her anymore.

6. Lety asks herself, “Why did he keep this bag full of lies? Why did he leave me his trash?”

  .
7. Ali and Luigi argue over Aldo. Aldo steps off the elevator, Lety heads straight for him, and they make goo-goo eyes for 20 seconds. Ali and Luigi are boggled.

8. Aldo says he came to DF to be close to Lety and help her. The cuartel thought he was Luigi’s, um, special friend. Aldo says, “With total clarity, I told him that the position is only about work. I don’t want to be close to him. That’s how it is.” Liar! Lety thinks maybe Aldo agreed and Lui didn’t. Aldo answers, “That’s his problem.” Lety says that Conceptos should run the entire Food Tourism campaign.

9. Ali reports to Marcia that Aldo is Lety’s special friend instead.

10. Omar thinks Fernando’s projects are an excuse to talk to Lety. Fern gets serious: they need to work together so he can help rescue his father’s company. Marta tells Fern that Lety’s in the board room with her friend Aldo the papito.

Capitulo 204.
Read Amanda’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Aldo asks Lety if her heart still suffers for Fernando. Then he apologizes for getting too personal, but he pushes again, asking, “Do you think about him?” Lety shakes her head no. Aldo leaves happily. Lety can’t stop the memory of Fernando declaring his love last night.

2. Per Lety’s request, Alicia poisonously tells Marcia she’s supposed to report to Lety in the board room.

3. Marcia asks Lety why she didn’t come to Marcia’s office instead of ordering her to the meeting room. (On what planet does the president go begging to his subordinate’s office?) Lety and Marcia face off. See the transcript. Marcia says Lety can’t order her around. Lety says they need to communicate better to avoid problems, and that the rules apply to Alicia too.

4. The witches torment Alicia, telling her she’ll be fired. Lety tells her to not believe anything until she announces her decision. Alicia is relieved and her little child nature comes out for a moment.

5. Marcia is surprised that Fernando will still work at the office. Lety says he asked for it, and she’ll keep her promise to stay away from him, but the company needs everyone’s help. If Marcia doesn’t want him to work there, Marcia needs to tell him herself. YOU GO, GIRL!

6. The meeting gathers. Marcia’s still at the head of the table. Fernando greets Lety and almost kisses her. Marcia has to remind him to greet her (rude snub from Fernando in that culture), and he kisses her shoulder. Lety notices. In Lety’s fantasy she stabs Omar’s hand and he begs her.

7. Marcia delays the meeting while she nags, torments, and badgers Fernando. Lety steps out and tells Marcia she’s going to sit in her own seat when she returns. Fern is seething with jealousy. He asks Lety about Aldo. Marcia asks if Lety’s ever going to start that meeting (and who delayed it in the first place?). Fern tells Marcia he knows she’s going to scrutinize his every move.

8. Ali tells Luigi to go to the meeting. Luigi refuses to take orders from Lety and he throws a tantrum. Really he’s afraid she’s going to fire him.

Spanish Lesson. Lety faces down Marcia.

Marcia takes the head seat in the conference room and orders Lety to sit.
Marcia: You don’t give me orders. You’re not above me, not even close.
Lety: Then why don’t you be the president and I can leave? Then no one could give you orders, and we could avoid confrontations.
M: Are you threatening that you’ll resign?
L: No, I’m just leaving the path open so you can have what you want.
M: You know perfectly well you can’t resign. If you want my head, why not just say so?
L: Because I need you here. Don’t you remember? And since you need me so your company is not lost, we’re in this together.
M: You can’t come in here and give me orders. And you can’t change the rules and let your friends arrive whenever they wish. They’re going over my head because the president is their friend. I won’t allow that.
L: And I won’t let you throw them into the street.
M: Don’t lecture me. I know their situation. But they can’t arrive whenever they like, just because they have money problems.
L: I agree. But we’re talking about people, not objects. .. .. You don’t really intend to fire the cuartel. You’ve always defended them. They see you as someone just who understands them. You’re bothered because they were celebrating my new position. If it were for being late, you’d have to fire your friend Alicia. She arrived later than them, as always.
M: I get it. I can’t fire one without the other?
L: No, that’s not the idea. If we’re going to succeed, we can’t go on this way. A lot of the problems between you and me have come from a lack of communication. You listen to Alicia, and I listen to the cuartel. Neither version is objective nor reliable. The problems will continue if you and I don’t speak clearly.
M: Then what about the cuartel? Do we let them keep arriving late?
L: No. But we do something short of firing them. Write them up and give them a warning.
M: The cuartel?
L: And Alicia. We can’t keep playing favorites. As you said, the law is the law.
M: Speaking of Alicia, will you keep her on as scty to the president?
L: Let’s deal with the situation of all the scty’s first, okay?

Comments:
There is a great blooper about this scene in the condensed dvd when Lety stabs Omar's hand and he shrieks so loud and high pitch that neither Jaime nor Angelica can hold their laughter... it was really hysterical...
On a more serious note... interesting the full circle of Lety hurting herself in the hand and her dreaming that she stabs Omar almost on the same spot she hurt herself...

Hi everybody. Sorry I've been among the missing. Had hoped to watch Friday's episode and comment but all H... broke loose and missed out. When I do get a chance to read, if not watch, the discussions are always excellent. Thanks for all you do week after week, recappers, organizers, photo posters and commenters. You make this blog line a wonderful place to be.

The way Aldo leaves the conversation with Fernando is very rude in Mexican culture. People never enter nor exit the company of others without a greeting. Note how Fern calls after him, “We’ll talk later. Glad to meet you.” It’s like, if your teenager doesn’t say “thank you,” you pointedly say “you’re welcome” to call attention to his rudeness.

When Lety shows RoboPop the cave, I think she uses the exact script Fernando used when he first installed her in the cave.

Did you catch what Aldo told Lety about his deal with Luigi? I put the precise quote in #8 of Cap 203.

The stab-Omar blooper is at this link, at hack 6:30.

My gosh! Lety’s wearing a see-thru blouse! You see it in the executive bathroom.

This was a fun episode. The face off between Aldo & Fernando was fun to watch and yes Aldo was rude. Then when he walked off the elevator and stunned everyone by his greeting with Lety the reactions of everyone were hilarious. Then thee was the running joke about Alicia's stockings. Luigi showed a bit of that sweet side he showed with Irmita when he told her to buy Alicia some stockings as a gift from him. I loved the scene where Alicia & Luigi are bidding Aldo good bye and hey move in tandem. Lots & lots of wonderful moments.

I like the way Lety is gently but firmly exercising her authority. When she explained to the cuartel that she didn't need to order people around but would gain respect when she showed what she could do it seemed to me that Lopez reaction was real not just sucking up.

Poor clueless Omar -- he keeps on giving advise as if he were the world's expert on love and women. But Fernando is showing real growth in his responses. Omar has no reason to be trying to help Fernando win Lety back. Getting Fernando & Lety together wouldn't be good for the company or for him. So why is he giving all this (hapless, dumb, idiotic) advice? I think it's out of pure friendship because he sees that Fernando is hurting.

Güera

Guera,
Yes, Omar wants Fernando to get Lety back because he knows that's what Fern wants. Omar is his BFF and has been since they were kids. I don't think it would matter what it is that Fern wants, Omar would try and help him get it. Omar has accepted Fernando is in love with Leticia.

yes, walking away from someone while speaking is highly rude behavior. Another reason to hate Aldo.

Loved the boardroom scene when Fern comes in and bends to kiss Lety but stops. Kisses Marc on shoulder. Did you catch the look on Lety's face, it was like WTH? something not good with them.

An observation about the pencil stabbing scene: It was Lety's daydream right? Well, she had FERN grabbing and holding on to her! Barely touching Marcia to keep away from Omar, but definitely grasping Lety! So her daydreaming includes Fern's touch and support. Mmmmmm

Loved the office scene when Fern was jealous. He is SO attractive when he's jealous! I think Lety noticed, that's why she was keeping a straight face.(Or maybe because they bloopered up that scene too many times because Angelica cracks up at Jaime).

Diann

Hi Paula thanks for the post. Great Spanish lesson today. I just got home from work and am watching this now.

Okay, after the sidewalk scene, I am definitely not on the side of Aldo anymore. What he did was rude, but also very childish. He knew who was coming down the sidewalk because you saw the recognition in his face. Then stepping where Fernando stepped was downright childish. Aldo is supposed to be a grownup but in that scene he's the one who took several steps backwards and Fernando took another giant leap forward. Then Aldo lies to Lety by omission. He knew Luigi was interested in him, but he played the man, just as he has played the cuartel. Aldo has become that pesky fly that keeps bothering you and you try to kill it, but it just buzzes away. I would love to see Fernando with a giant fly swatter that lets loose on Aldo and obliterates his presence. He is nothing more than a little boy who saw something he wanted in a store window and will now do whatever he has to in order to get what he wants. Reminds me of how Fernando used to be. Can we say full circle, boys and girls?

Wow, another stunning conversation, this time between Marcia and Lety. Once again I was mesmerized and dying to see how it would all play out. I may not like Marcia but I have to admire her chutzpah. I also admire Lety for being able to identify exactly what was bugging Marcia and to call her on it. Yikes, I wouldn't want to be in either of their shoes.

FINALLY Alicia and the Cuartel will be treated equally (supposedly). They are all such a bunch of loads; if they spent a quarter of the energy on work that they spend on gossiping and complaining Conceptos would probably be the smoothest running company in Mexico.

Paula, thanks for the cultural info about the level of Aldo's rudeness to Fernando. I feel he really showed his Achilles Heel in that little meeting. Mr. Cool became Mr. Snotty which tells me he was trying really hard to maintain his composure.

It occurred to me at the end of this episode that maybe Aldo is buddying up to Luigi to help coerce Luigi to be more accepting of Lety and to work with her instead of against her. If Luigi wants to work with Aldo then he will have to work with/for Lety. It's a calculating and manipulative move and I wouldn't put it past Aldo. He seems to have a better sense of chess moves than the other characters who are generally short-sighted.

When Omar screamed I nearly jumped out of my chair. I usually have the volume up pretty loud to help me better understand the words. Thanks for the link to the bloopers. It looked like Jaime Camil also jumped about a foot. Funny stuff! I looked at some of the other bloopers too; there are some really funny people in this cast. In one of them Alicia did a belly dance that made JC laugh so hard it looked like he was about to fall over.

Thanks everyone for the recaps and screen shots.

PatA, thank you for the screenshots. I like the one with Alicia and Luigi.

Good point, Diann, that in Lety's daydream Fernando is allowed to hold her.

Barbara, you said Aldo lies by omission. I say he flat out lies. He said to Lety that he told Luigi clearly that it was a work-only arrangement and he didn't want to be close. WHEN? When Aldo was standing close and flirting with Luigi? Liar!

Diann, I thought too that Angelica was trying to not laugh in her office.

Sylvia, you said Jaime looked like he'd fall over from laughing in the bloopers. That's no exaggeration. You know that whatever he does, he does in a big way. Twice I've literally seen him fall to the floor from laughing so hard. Interesting that someone who loves to laugh so much can supress it when the camera's rolling. Except when Sergio goes after him!

In Omar’s office, Fern calls Ali “lame pata” – it means teacher’s pet, for how she talks about Lety. One for your vocabulary list!

I enjoyed the eps today. I was hooting in laughter most of the time - esp when Fern called out to Aldo after their first meeting and ANY of the scenes with Luigi & Alicia. Soooo funny when they were leaving Aldo's office! HYSTERICAL.

Yes- Aldo was rude today - personally that whole interaction would have been rude in many cultures (maybe with the exception of the Dutch). That said - I think that he was simply letting his jealousy get the better of him in that moment. Notice how he's been nice and polite with everyone else who has been nasty to his Lety, but he was rude and nasty to Fern. I think it's because he knows deep down that Fern has feelings for Lety. Everyone else has been clear about their dislike of her, but Fern hasn't even discussed Lety with Aldo at all...that's just my thinking on the matter.

I really loved that Lety was asserting herself as President today. The talk with Marcia was a step in the right direction, now she has to get Luigi in line otherwise she'll have some real problems on her hands.

Paula H - you pointed out that Aldo was a liar in regards to the agreement he had with Luigi. Yo no intiendo all of the conversations (my Spanish is still very limited! Could you please explain why it was a lie? I think I missed something here.

On another random note - Angelica Vale has a live chat tonight - saw it on her twitter feed. I think there are technical difficulties, but here's a link if you're interested: http://twitcam.livestream.com/3tgb0

One step forward.

We've talked about what will happen between Aldo and Fern, and how Fern will fight for Lety. The problem is, he'll have to fight with his hands tied behind his back! Lety doesn't even want him to talk to her!

We see a glimpse of his struggle when he goes to her office. He's seething with jealousy because she was talking to Aldo, but he's in no position to try to stop her. So what does he do? He respects her space and he minds his place, even though it's killing him!

That demonstration of self control is a big step forward. Remember that the last time he was this jealous, Tom got beaten to a pulp.

About tomorrow's show. Remember my favorite theory? Patrons and clients? A patron’s primary function is to protect his client. A client’s primary function is to support his patron. In tomorrow's show, watch for signs of that. Does Fernando act like a patron? Does he act like a client? And what is Lety's reaction? There'll be a quiz! (jiji)

Ahh Paula - you can ignore my question about Aldo's lies...I think I was posting as you were...the lines got crossed.

Lety doesn't want to talk to him because he's still committed to another. Why should she believe him when he's still in a relationship with Marcia? I think until he at least shows that he's ready to make a real change (like breaking up with Marcia). I have a hard time seeing any steps forward from Fern until he makes this step forward. I feel it negates any progress he might make (no matter how small or large).

You have a point, Georgia Peach, about Fernando. To make huge strides, he must break it off with Lety. But, he is making progress like controlling his jealousy with Lety over Aldo. His biggest hurdle will be learning to be by himself. Until he is ready to cut the apron strings, so to speak, he cannot develop as he needs to. Marcia is to him like a pacifer to a baby. The child doesn't really need the pacifer; he just thinks he does. Same with Fernando. It's time now, Fernando, to take Binkie away for good. Be a good boy and let go!

Yes, I watched Aldo's scenes with Luigi's pretty carefully over the weekend and last night, and he never told Luigi that it was a business-only relationship.

Of course he shouldn't have to, and Luigi shouldn't be so presumptuous, but when someone's interest is so obvious, it is courteous to gently but firmly crush their dreams. (And it is also courteous not to lie to Lety about it!)

I agree with you Julie, but I think if Aldo had told Luigi the arrangement was business only it would have fallen on deaf ears anyway. It should have been clear to everyone in Conceptos today that Lety and Aldo have a special bond, but Luigi and Alicia still felt they had a chance even after seeing the affection for Aldo & Lety. I don't think it would have done any good for him to tell Luigi their relationship would be biz only.

Good metaphor - Marcia as Fern's binky (or blankie) or whatever she is to him...seems she's more like his albatross lately. I wonder how long he'll let her keep him on a short leash.

I noticed that there was a lot of debate on the older recap about whether Aldo & Lety had chemistry in today. I felt today was one of the first times I've felt any real attraction or chemistry from Lety towards Aldo in today's scenes. She was really quite seductive towards him today...perhaps a little of the fire we were hoping to see?

Aldo's rudeness is a no no in almost any culture and it wasn't the only time he was rude today. He also cut Luigi off right after Lety came on the scene. Notice too how he always crowds Lety and gets in her space. I know that that happens in lots of cultures but we Americans find that offensive. Aldo also irritated me when he manipulated Lety into thinking she had come up with the idea for a big campaign. He is such a slick user of other people. I keep thinking how he used to blow off the bellas in Aca but he just eats up the bosom thrusting feas.

Erasmo's reaction to the closet and the Phantom of the Opera had me in stiches as did the pencil stabbing.. Thank heavens we are getting more humor and less drama. Now if the cuartel would only shut up and stop picking at Ali like brats tormenting a fly.

GP, no me importa un pepino (I don't care one bit) whether or not Aldo discouraged Luigi. BUT when he told Lety a boldfaced lie (yes I told Luigi very clearly), for THAT I blew my top. He says he loves her but he directly lies to her to win her.

BarbaraM,
You said--->To make huge strides, he must break it off with Lety.
Did you mean break it off with Marcia?

I think we now are all on the same page regarding Aldo (phewww I don't even like to type his name anymore) maybe someone can come up with a code word for the desgraciado so we don't have to spell his name anymore!!!

Diann :)

Paula, isn't a pepino a cucumber? Is it no me importa un rato? rato = bit?

(Sorry, its just that my Spanish has improved mucho over these episodes. That's whatcha get for rewinding scenes over and over again, not only to see Jaime over and over, but to figure out what he's saying) Mmmmm

Diann

Literally translated "no me importa un pepino" would be something like "I don't care a cucumber('s worth)". Kind of like we say "I don't give a fig". The translation to us is what Paula politely said, "I don't care one bit" or as my dictionary translates, "I don't give a d**n". I've also noticed that sometimes the characters say "no me importa un comino" or "I don't care a cumin" which I'm pretty sure means the same thing.

Sorry, yes I did mean break it off with Marcia. I agree with the comments about Aldo being a user but Lety can't see that. Once again, it's full circle because that's how it started with Fernando and Lety. He was using her and manipulating her to his best advantage. Now Fernando is the one looking out for Lety to protect and Aldo is the hunter swooping down to pick his prey. Kinda like a vulture! See any resemblence?

Eh- I need more evidence that Aldo is a user. This is one instance. How many times has Fern lied, cheated and done whatever he needs to in order to get Lety to do what he needs done. So far Aldo has told one lie and everyone is ready to hang him.

I don't think lying is acceptable behavior by any means, but I'm not ready to chop his head off so you can keep me in the not an Aldo hater column for now. Maybe it's because I'm watching some of the earlier eps at the same time, but I'm seeing so many of the dishonest things Fern has done in the past, so I'm a little less forgiving until he does the one right thing and loses Marcia. Until that point - he's still a BIG FAT LIAR too and if you can forgive such a HUGE transgression imho, you have to be equitable and forgive the other. Sort of like how Lety said Alicia and the cuartel should both be treated fairly...

Speaking of fairness - who ever said anything was fair in love or war. I'm glad to see Aldo has a bit of cunning in him...it'll keep things interesting. Someone said yesterday he's boring, vanilla and bland. Maybe he has a little more spice than we expected eh? I hope he doesn't go down the road of lying more to Lety to obtain her love, BUT it's nice to see him show a little more than that self help one note. He's smarter than we all thought.

LOL - I guess I'll be the only Aldo supporter on this board eh?

Having seen some of the earlier eps - I maintain that both Alicia and Marcia are the villains of this piece as well as Ariel and others. This show has many villains who pop up, whenever either of our protagonists' need a challenge, which seems like darn near every ep. LOL This is about to get interesting.

Someone asked for a code name for Aldo. Eventually, we came up with the nickname "Aldon't." I'm not sure when it came up or who came up with it.

The reason we're ready to hang him after one lie and are holding him to a higher standard than Fernando is because Aldo has been presented to us as Mr. Perfect. We've never caught him in a lie before, and we expect him to be better than that because he's supposed to be better than Fernando. Now we see that he's just as capable of lying as Fern is, when it suits him.

On the old recap, a lot of people said they didn't see any chemistry between Aldo and Lety in the boardroom. I don't remember what I thought of that scene back then, but I thought they were showing a fair amount of chemistry. Actually maybe the most I've seen between them to date. I'm glad he had enough restraint not to begin mauling her right then and there. For a second I thought he would.

I also noticed that he finally sort-of gave Lety a chance to kick him out of the office - he said he hoped she didn't mind or he hoped it didn't bother her that he was working with Luigi. At least he acknowledged the possibility.

It was weird when she tried to write something using his chest as a writing surface. In my experience, pencil on paper over fabric (or even leather) doesn't work very well.

I understand, but I think the lie makes him a lot more human now. Perhaps it is the location. I remember before Paula (or someone) pointing out that Acapulco is the place for fantasy, now that he's in Mexico City it's the place where real things happen. Maybe that's why we're seeing more of the real Aldo. I'm willing to let it play out before I hang him!

Julie - I thought that was weird too that she tried to write on his chest, but sort of funny! It was like she was trying to seduce him without realizing it.

I felt a fair amount of chemistry between Aldo and Lety when they met up at Conceptos, more than in Acapulco. In Acapulco she was still dazed and confused and pretty much followed him around like some kind of student or protege or something. Now that she is back at Conceptos and drawing lines in the sand for everyone they are on a more equal footing.

I was disappointed that he lied to her because as we all know Lety does NOT like being lied to. On the other hand, as Georgia Peach points out, when comparing Fernando's and Aldo's lies Fernando is much farther along in the dirty rotten scoundrel category than Aldo is from what we have seen so far.

Lety's relationship with Aldo might also be another manifestation of her journey to self-discovery, exploration of her own strength, and rise to power within Conceptos. He made such a big impact at Conceptos that Lety turning out to be his first friend has put another feather in her cap. In one encounter she managed to trump Luigi, Alicia, and anyone else who might have had designs on Aldo.

Over and above his lying the thing about Aldo that i detest is that he sucks the strength out of Lety and turns her back into someone who depends on him. When she first went back to Conceptos she was strong but then met up with Aldo and returned to wimp Lety mode. Yesterday she was strong again but then told Aldo she needed him to be strong. If she continues to rely on his presence to be strong she has made little or no progress in growing from a whiny child into an adult. At no time while she was with Fern was she ever such a weakling. Yes I know that his treatment of her made her lose her confidence but her hatred should give her a bit more backbone don't you think?

After watching yesterday it occurred to me that Fea is at its best in scenes between Fern and Omar and between Fern and Lety, in large part because they all play off each other so well.

Decie- I'd tend to disagree that Lety has only depended upon Aldo. When the show first started she depended on her parents. Then Fern. I think he actually gives her a bit of confidence that she'd lost after the whole fallout from the board meeting. She was totally destroyed before her trip to Acapulco and he helped her to come back.

I think that the scene yesterday in the bathroom with her giving herself a pep talk was a sign that she doesn't just depend on him. She said 'thank you' to him for bringing the new idea her way, but otherwise - I think she's starting to finally stand on her own two feet. Even if she thinks she needs Aldo to be strong. She's starting to make her own way now...Now as far as Aldo's motivations - maybe he does want to make her dependent on him, but I don't see that so far...I'll keep watching closely and when he does I'll be the first to call it out. Right now I think his motivation is simply two things - go after the thing that gives him this happy feeling (lety + book deal & restaurant opening)

I say this because in watching some of the earlier eps - I have really been bothered by how she has to depend on Fern, The Cuartel or someone else to help her to get through a lot of the roadblocks thrown in her way. The eps I'm watching now are especially filled with that - with her crying every two seconds over something. I actually am bothered by how weak they made the character of Lety in the first half of the series. Her nervous ticks, facial expressions and general demeanor made her seem more mentally ill, than someone who was suffering from low self esteem. As someone who really wants to root for her character - she bothers me a LOT in these earlier eps...and I can understand why she makes such an easy target for Marcia, Alicia, Omar and the others. I don't think it's right what they do to her, but I can understand.

I'll admit I have a long way to go to catch up, but I didn't start to see any real strength from her until she read the letter from Omar and started to manipulate the situation with Fern.

This is an interesting debate...I'm

Sylvia, thanks for giving the "un pepino" explanation, bien dicho. To me, "me importa un comino" makes more sense because a single cumin seed is MUCH smaller and of much less worth than a cucumber, but often language makes no sense. I loved what Don Hermes (Erasmo's counterpart) used to say in BLF: No me importa ni cinco! I suspect that the cinco referred to some really worthless coin. Sometimes he'd just say, "Ni cinco!"

Now we've discovered Omar's special talent - scream like a girl!

I really loved how Lety managed Marcia in their meeting! She held her ground but left Marcia her dignity. Bien hecho (well done)!

Names for Aldo: how about Also?

GP, I'll say again, I'm glad we have an Aldo supporter on the board. Hang in there!

Barbara, interesting observation that Aldo has started the same was as Fernando, using Lety. I hadn't thought of that idea, and I like it.

Diann, YES! It does my heart good to hear how much your Spanish has improved thanks to Fea. You can say, like I do, "My Spanish teacher is Jaime Camil." When I started watching Fea, I couldn't understand ANYTHING. Because I loved Fea so much. I'd watch a scene with printed recap in hand and wrestle until I could make the Spanish I heard match the English of the recap. Only 18 months later I was recapping! You're on your way, Diann!

I hope I didn't come across like a know-it-all with that "un pepino" explanation. It's just that I love the dichos, proverbios and sayings and I actually keep track of stuff like that. We had a big discussion about that particular expression when we were watching Juan Querendon. I agree that "me importa un comino" seems to make more sense. The "ni cinco" is a new one, at least it's not on my list so I'll have to add it. There sure are a lot of ways of saying "I don't care a bit" aren't there?

I'm happier than a pig in mud, with all this analysis. The arrival of Aldo has really ratcheted up our discussion. Hey GP, if you ever give up on Aldo, maybe you should still pretend to support him on the board, just to be the noodge to force the Aldo detractors to develop sound arguments! Only kidding. Halfway.

Sylvia, no te preocupe nada. You were awake when I wasn't, and you filled in for me. You did the right thing. I love dichos too. I'm sure you've seen my page of favorite dichos. I'm always looking for more, but my problem is that I get a book or find a list of dichos, and my Mexican friends have never heard of most of them! Irmita is always spouting well-known Mexican dichos. I should've been collecting them. I'm pretty sure the "ni cinco" is Colombian.

GP, as you're watching the early caps, you may find useful my Fea episodes list. Just be careful you don't read the list past the current cap, or you'll get spoilers.

Fea veterans, please be very careful, in all this Aldo discussion, to limit your evidence to past episodes, and be careful not to bring in anything from future episodes. Everyone has been doing great in this regard, so I'm not correcting anyone. It's just that right now the temptation is great so I wanted to post a reminder. I'll post the same reminder with Wed's recap in case people have retired from this page.

I can't post from work as the hospital has it blocked!
¡Que barbaridad!
I mentioned watching the Bloopers from the condensed DVD set--and the one from this episode is great--Omar screaming is hysterical!
I am an Aldo fan, Georgia Peach, i think he is a good influence on Lety.
I loved these episodes!
