La Fea Más Bella #221-222 2/21/11 The Week Starts With a BANG! WHAM! KAPOW! Alt title: The One You Want Doesn’t Want You

Capitulo 221.
Read Amanda’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Fernando intends to ask Lety exactly what she told Aldo.

2. Marcia packs for her trip, remembers the spat in the boardroom, and concludes that their relationship is going from bad to worse.

3. The cuartel finds Aldo’s picture in Lety’s purse. Lety tells how they met, and that they kissed twice. Irmita says Luigi left Ruli because of Aldo. Lety assures them that Aldo doesn’t play for the other side.

4. Aldo swears to Tom that he has no interest in Alicia.

5. Paula tries to push Lety toward Aldo, but Lola says Lety still loves that bum Fernando. PG counsels Lety while Fern listens at the door. PG says two men have Lety on their mind. The generous one values her and has seen her soul. The other one gets bluer by the day. Irmita worries about that one suffering.

6. Aldo takes Luigi the stuffed bear from Ruli. Luigi sees Aldo bring it but he pretends to sleep. He finds the card saying, “I want you at my side forever,” but it’s unsigned, so he’s sure it’s from Aldo.

7. PG tells Lety that the generous one will surprise her. She has difficult days ahead. And a woman from another country will cause her much pain. Lety calls Mama for advice. She recognizes that maybe Aldo is interested in her. Mama says this man could be a dream come true. Lety says Aldo is super nice and she needs his strength. But they’re just friends, and she’s going to forget everyone’s suggestions that there’s something more.

8. Fern tells Omar that if there is another man in Lety’s life, he’ll lose her forever. Omar thinks he already has.

9. Fern can’t stand that PG talked to Lety. He wants to know who the other guy is. PG knows Fern’s love is sincere, so Fern wants PG to tell Lety that. PG says Fern needs to fight for this love, and he should use this trip to straighten out his thinking.

10. Luigi hears Aldo tell Caro that he’s afraid to declare his love because there’s still “el otro.”

Capitulo 222.
Read Alma’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Tom sees Ali crying for her cell phone and he apprehensively loans her his. He says, “Whatever else you need, count on me.” She looks lovingly at his phone.

2. Marcia takes the Dress of Inviability to work and pronounces the incantation, “One Dress to bring her man, and in darkness bind them.” The One Dress to Rule Them All affected Marcia’s mind. Once she obtained her “Precioussss” it became her obsession, it turned her more evil, and she would not part with it under any circumstance. Someone should throw that thing in the fire!

3. Ali takes the One Dress for her wedding to Aldo. See? Already the Precioussss has made her believe delusions too!

4. Tomy (without a necklace) hears “wedding” and storms (with a necklace) into the rage room (Aldo’s office). Tom surprises him with the news that he (Aldo) is engaged to Alicia. Tom feels badly betrayed by his new friend. Aldo says, “Alicia doesn’t interest me at all. I’m in love with Leticia.” Tom couldn’t be happier. He encourages Aldo to declare to Lety. Aldo hustles Lety out for a walk.

5. Marcia finds Fern in her office and she lays the canceled-wedding dress on her desk. He flees the room quickly, as if a dog farted. Alicia, as heartening as Job’s friends, says, “Did you see that? He was here for awhile, but as soon as you arrived, he left.”

6. Ali and Luigi try to convince each other of their delusions that Aldo wants to spend his life with them. Tom tries to gently persuade Ali that she could be mistaken. Finally he spits out, “Aldo loves Lety.”

7. Alicia shoots out like a bullet to tattle to Marcia. Marcia sprints out of the room as fast as a neutrino to break the news to Fernando. (Most people save their schadenfreude for their enemies.) He goes ballistic and blasts out of the room at warp factor 8, saying he has to talk to Lety about travel allowance. When he finds out she left with Aldo, he goes supernova.

8. For the rest of this episode, I’ll condense as much as I can. It’s too packed to summarize. Here are the bare facts.

Aldo tells Lety he loves her. He doesn’t care if she’s still in love with Fern.
She says she loves another. He wants a chance to fight for her love.

Marcia is broken hearted because of how Fernando reacted to her news. Duh!
Marcia whines to her mirror, mirror on the wall, “What has she got that I ain’t got?” (Yeah, I mixed my allusions. So shoot me!)
Fern accuses Aldo of cheating. He came in under the cover of the food project, but his real purpose was to capture Lety’s love.
Aldo shouts that he loves Lety. All Fern can do is shout “I love. I love.”
Fern: Shut up! Aldo: What are you going to do about it? Fern: mucho. Fern walks toward Aldo. Aldo punches him in the face. Aldo: Eh? Did that hurt? Aldo tries to take her away. She refuses. Lety: Look, Señor Fernando..
Fern punches Aldo. He tells him not to invade his (Fern’s) territory, and pulls Lety toward him, but she pulls away. Then Aldo grabs her but she pulls away from him too.
Aldo: the only territory you want to defend is Conceptos. You have no affection.
Fern: Get lost! Leave us alone! Aldo: Us? You and who? Fern: Me and my nov.. .. Lety. Aldo: Let her decide. You lost the right to defend her, long ago. Aldo punches Fern. Fern falls. Lety rushes to him. “Don Fernando..” Then she stops herself. “You should leave. Please.”
Fern: Lety is president and she has a commitment to me!

Here is a fun picture from Angélica's wedding Saturday.

I know that many of you don't read my summaries and that's fine. You come here and comment, and that's the best part. But today I'd like you to make an exception and read the second summary, Cap 222.

Luigi calls the bear Jorge. Ruli is played by Jorge Salinas.

Leftover from Friday: When Fern objected to Aldo’s ideas in the meeting, it was the same as when Marcia objected to Lety’s ideas.

When Tom dyed his hair, he was compared to Lorena Herrera. She’s in the teen TN they’re promoting right now, “Niña de mi corazón,” as the scheming mother of the gold-digger girlfriend who’s the rival of the Sweet Young Thing.

Look at the difference between how Tomás told Alicia that Aldo loves Lety, versus how Marcia told Fernando. Tom was very reluctant because he knew it would hurt her, but he had to do it for her own good, so she wouldn’t make a fool of herself and wouldn’t hurt more later. Marcia couldn’t wait to tell Fern because she thought it would give her an advantage. She threw it in his face with no regard for his pain. And she was hurt when he ran from the room. Well, duh!

Barbara posted this. I, Paula, edited out her e-mail address and reposted.

What an episode and boy am I glad for the translations. Aldo and Fernando have both lost it. First, Aldo should never have been the one to deliver the bear to Luigi. You'd have to be blind not to see how Luigi feels about Aldo and then he goes and drops off the bear. Good gravy, what was Luigi supposed to think.

Then Alicia. Aldo couldn't just tell her and Luigi in plain English that he wasn't interested in either one. Oh no, that would have been too simple and too direct. Then Aldo loses it with Lety. He was downright forceful about his love for her and then, if I got this right, that he didn't care that she was in love with Fernando. Marcia finally has gotten the hint that her relationship with Fernando just doesn't exist anywhere but in her mind. When he blew out of the room looking for Lety, he put the kabosh on his relationship with Marcia and scared the cuartel half to death.

Then we have Fernando and Aldo in a major pissing contest on the grounds of Conceptos. Aldo is very open about what he feels but Fernando still can't quite admit out loud to the whole world that he loves Lety with all his life. They're hitting each other like two dogs fighting over a bone. Each trying to prove his worth to Lety. The previews sounded interesting as I heard Lety said I can't (no puedo). I'm pretty sure that's in response to Aldo declaring that Lety should choose betwen them. He's so sure she'll choose him, but he could be in for a major surprise. I don't think Lety can choose because she has feelings for both. With Fernando it's a passionate love that fills her from her head to her toes. With Aldo it is a friendship love based on respect and gratefulness.

I know PG was referring to Aldo as the generous one. I beg to differ with him because Aldo has one thing in mind and that is to win Lety. If he was so generous, he would step aside to see if the love between Lety and Fernando will grow and survive. Frankly, I don't see either of the raging pit bulls as being generous. I see them both wanting Lety and being willing to do anything to get her.

What occurred in last half hour or so of this episode is just the impetus that Fernando needs. Albeit a kick in the butt that should spur him into making the changes necesary in order to have a life with Lety. We'll see though if he actually can put two and two together and come up with four.

We're rocking now. Without having seen any future episodes along this line, I think Fernando will leave because he sees that Lety is being torn apart in having to make a decision between the two men. He'll be the bigger person and go to the US to give time and space. Don't think Aldo will be as generous. He'll stay and try to convince Lety that he can love her better than Fernando ever could. Oh dear Aldo, somewhere down the line you've got meet reality and I don't think you'll find that meeting very pleasant.

Thanks for the wedding pic, Paula.
All I can say right now is,
I just want to run my fingers through Jaime's hair. Tan divino!!
Gee, my heart rate increased - wonder why? ;)

Loved today's eps and Paula I do read your summaries because often you add/or clarify something that might have been missed on the other recaps. BTW- yours were quite funny today! Love the title as well!

Wow - so much to say about today, but I'll try to keep it brief. Loved the story finally moving forward today obviously!! I personally think after seeing today's eps that Lety shouldn't be dating either Aldo or Fern. She needs time to recover, heal and get over any leftover bad feelings she felt from the previous affair with Fern.

I think Aldo needed to proclaim his love today because there was the question in Lety's mind over whether he felt anything for her. She said in several conversations now that he's never done anything to show he likes (loves) her. So I think it was something he had to do - otherwise he would've been the nice guy left out in the cold because she was too afraid, hurt, whatever to think he could actually feel something for her.

I thought it was very telling that Lety says to him "there's now way you could ever love a fea" hearing that she still has such low esteem for herself is heartbreaking. I also think it's the main reason why she needs the time alone - to get to know and love herself. Otherwise she'll always sort of have these self esteem issues. Both guys should actually see and recognize this about her...

Fern and Omar had a great part in destroying what little self esteem Lety had gained through her work successes prior to the letter. Regardless of whether it ended up being true or not, that's something that Aldo has tried to help her regain. I don't think even he realizes how deep her issues about her looks go. She's mentioned it to him, but how could she trust anyone to share some of the personal stories she shared with someone she thought she could trust in Fern much earlier (I'm referring to the stories she shared with Fern about the neighborhood boys & her her quincenera party stories).

I agree with you Barbara, Aldo seems to always put himself at the center of confusion with Alicia and Luigi. I knew as soon as he took that bear from Saimon it was a mistake. I'm sure in his mind it was just him doing a harmless favor for Saimon and dropping something off because his office was on the way, but it never works out that way in LFMB world.

Marcia is so hurt that all she can do is hurt others, no matter the cost. I thought it was an interesting twist that she'd be the one to reveal Aldo's love to Fern. She's such a piece of work - carrying around that crazy wedding dress. I'll be glad to see her go and I really hope the writers don't show any scenes with her in Europe. Sheesh! Such a miserable character!

Tomas is so sweet. he just keeps going in for more hurt with Alicia. He always wants to take care of her and her feelings, but she just continues to suck him dry. I was however glad that they cleared up the Tomas thinking Aldo was a traitor bit because that would have been tiresome.

It's interesting to me that Tomas and Aldo are the only ones that seem to have clear lines of communication and understanding between them. Everyone else seems to be muddled...

Can we clear up this whole Luigi/Ruli/Aldo love triangle thing already? I'm over Luigi mooning over Aldo - although I thought Luigi's scenes with the bear today were hysterical. Usually I can't tolerate Luigi unless he's paired up with Alicia or Fern, but today he was quite funny.

PG- he had the blankest stares during his moments with the Cuartel. Like they would pan the camera over to him and that's all I saw blankness. Hmm

Back to the fight - I sort of thought Juan looked like he might laugh when Fern first came out. Like he was holding back a laugh - was that just my imagination?

Can't wait to hear the other reactions

GP,
PG had a blank stare because he was "seeing" his visions. Remember he stare into space all the time.
Diann

Anya, to you follow Camil's Twitter? He posted a photo today that should really get your heart racing! Even if you don't have Twitter, you can follow the link and see his tweets.

Here are three predictions from Barbara and Georgia Peach. I wanted you to see how close they came.

Cap 211/212. Barbara. Aldo has encroached on what Fernando considers his territory. He's controlling his jealousy but if I were Aldo, I wouldn't push him to the limits. Tomas can tell Aldo very accurately what happens when Fernando loses it.

Cap 215/216. Georgia Peach: I'd actually like to see Tomas and Aldo together in more scenes because they seem to have a good comic chemistry together.

Cap 219/220, Barbara. If he can get Fernando to really lose it in front of Lety, I think he thinks it'll be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Aldo doesn't realize that Lety's already seen Fernando at his worst; using people left and right; and still fell in love with him.

Georgia Peach, you have a great point. Lety does need to be left alone by both men in order to regain her self-respect and to get a fresh perspective on who she is. The bad part is that Fernando will probably leave her alone but Aldo won't. He loves Lety, I don't doubt that, but he also sees her as a person who needs him to help her find herself. Not a realistic view on his part, though. Lety cannot find herself or see her true self in others; she has to see herself within herself. Aldo is actually hindering her from making strides towards that and Fernando, if he stays, will certainly add to the jumble mix that is Lety's heart and mind. She can't let either one of the go right at this point. It would break her heart to do so, but I think Fernando will realize her pain (for once) and he'll do the right thing. If he does do this, he will have taken another huge step towards become the man he is supposed to be.

Diann, I just thought PG's blank stares and his mumble mouth were for the same reason: he's a charlatan, not an actor (jiji).

Marcia said she brought the canceled-wedding dress to the office because “I don’t want to have it in my house. It hurts me to have it there. Above all, every day my chances of marrying Fernando are getting worse.” Y qué? How does that lead to the conclusion, “I should take the dress to the office”? Does Marcia think that if she waves it in front of Fern’s face both day and night, he’ll suddenly remember that he wants to marry her? After all, when she got to her office, Fern was in there on the phone, so she laid it out on her desk like a sacrifice on the altar. What she doesn’t realize is that he fled her shrine last night so he could go and worship at his own shrine of lost love on 107 Mimosa Street.

Paula, I always read your outlines too. I don't always read the original recaps. That usually depends on the time I have. So thanks again for all your work.

Diann - that's funny! PG was getting his visions! I didn't think of that - although Paula could be right - he could just be a charlatan. The nerve of him just showing up at Conceptos. Did Fern know that PG knew Lety before today? I didn't recall any acknowledgement or surprise on his part that PG would be there in the office.

I def recommend following Jaime's twitter! And Angelica's...they both post pics pretty often!

I say let's keep Aldo and Tommy together. They only make sense when they are with each other! hahah

It'll be interesting to see if this fight really is the straw that breaks the camel's back. I thought for a while Lety really was going to run off with Fern. I think if he'd shouted his love for her right then and there she probably would have run away with him forever, damn whatever happens with conceptos. Why hasn't he ditched Marcia already?? Then he'd be free to say what he wants to say!

Paula,
Yeah, just what was Marcia thinking by bringing the dress to Conceptos???
Maybe she has no where else to take it, and she was going to have Luigi store it for her.
But laying it out in front of Fern was definitely an "in your face" move.
I'm glad he ran out of the office as fast as he did. Also glad Alicia caught that and pointed it out to Marcia.
Isn't Jorge Flores (George Flowers- in Jaime's adorable american accent) a real physic? I thought I read that somewhere. And that's why the audience should be taking his visions as truth. They are pistas (clues) as to what Fern and Lety's future will be.
On the old board someone mentioned that it wouldn't have been right for Fern to yell "I love Lety" because then it would have looked like he was just trying to copy Aldo. His love is nothing like Aldo's, so he could not repeat like him. Did you catch when he placed his hand over Aldo's mouth he said, "I could, but she wouldn't BELIEVE me"
Also, I wanted to mention--->anyone else notice Aldo always refers and calls her "Leticia" whereas Fern refers and calls her "Lety". Fern only calls her Leticia when he is mad at her. Same as her friends and family.
For Lety--->true love=family=Fernando.
Diann

Diann - I was wondering if Fern actually said that "if I said it she wouldn't believe me" or not - I missed it in today's dialogue, saw it on the board.

Good point about how he refers to Lety, but I don't think Fern is at the place where he cares about what's best for Lety just yet. I think it's still a very selfish love on his part. Look at what he said today "Lety as President of Conceptos your allegiance is to me. " I hope he will be there, but not yet. He hasn't grown to that place just yet...

Speaking of true love = family = Fern, Julieta sure is rooting for Aldo. I think she's already planned the wedding of Lety and Aldo in her head. Erasmo seems to feel he's a solid guy as well. In fact almost everyone is rooting for Lety to fall in love with Aldo. Almost like they talked her into it...at least that's sort of what I felt was happening today...

PG tells Fern, “Lety is the light of your life. Just like your love for her (igual que tu amor por ella).” It seems to mean, “your love for her is likewise the light of your life.” But that “por ella” opens the door to a double entendre. I think in there they have hidden the meaning, “just like your love is for her (i.e. it’s the light of her life).

PG says Fern needs to fight for this love. So true. When Lety’s love poured on him as freely as rain, he valued it no more than rainwater flowing in the streets. But now her love has stopped flowing and he’s in a drought, desperately thirsty for it. He didn’t change when she gave him unrestrained love. Now he’s changing slowly, but it’s not enough. PG says Fern needs to fight for this love, but it’s not against Aldo. Fern has to fight against Fern. As long as she rejects him, he will fight to change himself to win her.

Diann, I'll go back and check the disk. Often when I can't understand something, I just leave it out.

GP,
I think Julieta is just acting like a mom. She believes Fern used Lety. She doesn't know the whole story. She sees this guy who seems to have everything going for him. He definitely shows interest in her daughter. He's spread manure around her and everyone close to Lety. So Julieta thinks this Aldo guy would be "just the ticket" for mi hija.
The stinkiest thing Aldo has done so far (in my opinion) is to tell Julieta that she reminds him of his own mother. What a rat. I didn't believe a word he was telling her. I bet his own mom was some high society cold one like MamaT
Diann

Paula,
Oh no, you put the water reference onto Fern. My total earth guy! Think of another metaphor, please....
Diann
P.S. did you see Jamie's latest twitpic of his new character for the movie in Chiapas? It's set in 1840s. And he's truely handsome. Sigh.....

Diann - I don't think Aldo is so cold-hearted that he'd lie about his mother. He might talk a lot of psycho-babble, but the clue to me that he's probably not as bad as everyone on this board seems to think he is - is how he behaves when he's alone and no one is watching. I've never seen him act in a very calculating light in those moments. Yes he expresses his frustration that Lety doesn't realize how he feels about her, but he's never plotted or planned unlike some of the other characters we know and love (Fern, Alicia)

That's just my two cents...I happen to think the true test of a person's character is those moments when they are alone and no one is watching.

Paula, I like your interpretation of what the psychic said. I'm not sure Lety realizes that her love for Fernando is light of her life; she's so conflicted now. When Fernando leaves, she'll have an emptiness inside of her that Aldo will try to fill. But his philosophical spouting can't drive Fernando out of Lety's heart and neither can his love. As much as Lety understands that Fernando hurts her, she also knows that he has a place in her heart that nothing can shake. We may see in succeeding episodes that Fernando and Aldo sort of trade places. Aldo becomes the one who tries to hang onto Lety at all costs and Fernando is the one who sees that he must let go in order to give Lety peace. What Fernando doesn't know now, but I think will in the future, is that letting Lety go now is the best thing to keep her with him always. We know the two of them have to end up together. But it's not the end result that is so interesting but the methods by which they make it there. I have no idea what's going to happen, but Aldo is not done by a long shot. He'll play Lety to get what he wants, just like Fernando did in the past. Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not badmouthing Aldo; he's determined to get what he wants. But at the same time, he's not willing to see what's best for Lety beyond what he can offer her. She'll never have the passion with Aldo that she has had and will always have with Fernando.

You've got to admit, though, the last scenes of today were dynamite. Kudos to Fernando that he didn't beat the tar out of Aldo like he did Tomas. Aldo didn't show the same restraint. I think the fight will stop when one or the other or both realize that the fighting is causing Lety great pain.

PS Paula, I sent the email.

BarbaraM,
I can't figure out something.
If Fern does let Lety go for an unselfish love, how does Lety believe he truely loves her? Is he suppose to tell her he's letting her go (to figure things out for herself) but he will be there for her? I'd like to hear your scenarios of how this might work. I can't figure it out.
Thanks, Diann
P.S. I too do not know how this ends. But I agree with you that Lety will end up with Fern. Now the story is HOW.

I thoroughly enjoyed todays episodes and recaps. I love Luigi's 'Oso precioso" (precious bear, rhyming in español)--and I loved him calling the bear "Jorge/Jorgito" and i knew it was Ruli's name! how cute!
I repeat myself, but I just love those 'mother-daughter' talks between Lety y Julieta. Maybe because my mom has Alzheimers and I just miss who she was.
Excellent action/climax scene between Aldo and Fernando, although I was surprised to see Aldo throw the first punch. And for all this to go down at work, for all to see.
Thanx so much for the pic from Angelica's wedding--they are on 'luna de miel' (honeymoon)in the Caribbean!

Great title and great recap. Paula, one of your best recaps ever and definitely your funniest. Thank goodness the action picked up in this episode, the second part anyway. It was great to see Aldo lose his cool and the first punch he threw looked very real.

I like today's screen shots and thank you for adding the picture of Angelica Vale's wedding. I read a short article about her husband and he sounds like an amazing man.

Yes! Didn't Pata do an awesome job on the screenshots? The one where Fern is dancing around, frustrated, is blurry because he never slowed down!

Diann, I watched my disk but I can't get CCs right now. I heard the words: yell too, even not believe me. But I couldn't catch which tense, nor the subject of the second clause, was it Lety or Aldo? But Diann, your translation works for me!

GP. Did Fern know that PG knew Lety before today? I think not, but I'm not sure. Fern was mad that his personal psychic was talking to somebody else. Mine!

I don't think Aldo lied when he compared Julieta to his mom, but definitely it was a premeditated manipulation.

Diann, yes, today's Twitpic was stunning. All I could think was, "He's got 'it' and he sure knows how to use it!" From the vid, it looks like he'll have muttonchops. That explains why he needed a shave in the picture from the wedding.

Barb, what Lety knows and doesn't know. I agree, she doesn't realize Fern is the light of her life, but we do. It is Fern who switched on her light, and he can again. But I don't think she "knows Fern has a place in her heart nothing can shake." We know it. But she still thinks she will be able to forget him or get her heart to let go of him. Never happen.

El burro por delante...

Pardon me, I'm going to discard my good manners for a moment and whine just a little. I was hoping someone would comment on The Precioussss, the Dress of Inviability, the One Dress to Rule Them All.

Diann, I think Fernando will have to say something to Lety. It'll take him stepping out of his comfort zone and revealing his heart to her. Right now, he's so afraid of her total rejection that he accepts whatever crumbs he can get. He's afraid to admit to her that she is the love of his life because Fernando does not think Lety could ever love him again because of what he did to her. Both Lety and Fernando are not in touch with their deepest emotions. It's safer to play in the shallow water (Aldo) then to go in the deepest part (Fernando) and depend on someone else to help you stay afloat. Lety is gun-shy, which is understandable considering what she's been through. She's afraid of being swept away by the power that is Fernando. Aldo is a cool, gentle breeze to her that is pleasant and safe. Fernando is not the safe bet. And as evidenced by the final scene, Fernando is a hurricane with gusting winds that will knock Lety sideways. For her during this time, Aldo is an anchor in a safe harbor. But as most seafaring people know, you can anchor in a safe harbor only for so long. Eventually, you have to set sail again and allow the sea and the wind to buffet the boat. Lety is not willing to set sail as this point in time.

Okay Paula, I'll bite. THE DRESS - it'll never be used by Marcia with Fernando because her relationship with him is kaput. Marcia bringing the wedding dress to the office and putting it on Fernando's desk was like a red flag to a raging bull. Stupid move, Marcia, stupid move. She's finally getting a clue that she needs to move on. Maybe in London she'll find the love of her life. But that dress - it's just a representation of what could never be between Marcia and Fernando.

Barbara, one quibble. Fern did tell her. At Santuario, he said, "I love you, Lety, with all my soul!" And she did not believe him.

Barbara, I applaud you for taking a shot at the dress allusion. That's not what I was going for. I'll give you a hint. A honking-big hint. PRECIOUSSSSS.

LOL - I think it was funny that Alicia would even consider trying to use that darn dress. I'd consider it bad luck myself using a dress that was intended for a wedding that never will occur. That dress is cursed it will make the intended wearer jealous and unhappy!

I think Fern going away will actually help him to know what he should say to Lety. At this moment he doesn't have the right words.

I thought there was an interesting choice of words today by Aldo - asking Lety if it was ok for him to fight for her love. That's a little awareness on his part - he knows what he's up against, but he needs some encouragement from her. I wonder what the answer would have been if they weren't interrupted. She didn't look horrified at least...

Paula, the Precioussssss Dressssss is exactly what I meant when I said this was your funniest recap ever. It's a wonderful analogy and made me laugh out loud. Both Marcia and Alicia are absolutely possessed by something, it must be the dress.

Oh, and dog fart made me snicker too.

So yeah, Lord of the Dress.

I still don’t see Aldo as a user. I think that he is acting in a perfectly logical way. He is a man in love and Fernando is his rival. Everything he knows about Fernando tells him that Fernando is bad for Lety. It is natural that he would bait Fernando, especially after the incredibly infantile and rude way that Fernando has treated him. As far as he knows Fernando has no reason to treat him this way. He considered that Fernando might be jealous but he went to Carolina & asked her. She assured him that Fernando never loved Lety. That’s the truth as she knows it. So because Fernando is treating him badly and because Fernando has previously used Lety badly and hurt her Aldo is doing his best to put Fernando in a bad light and to convince Lety to forgive him. It’s not sneaky. It’s not being a user. It’s being frustrated by love.

Aldo hasn’t hurt anyone. His only flaw is that he allows people to flirt with him & by being easy and kind with them he leads them on. He’s been fawned over for years by flirty, sexy women. He treated all those Nuestra Belleza beauties with this same non committal, smiling and walking away. After the shock of losing his wife and discovering (he thought) her infidelity caused him to shut down for years. He has learned to deflect all this flirtatiousness without being rude and then going off to work on finding peace in nature. He was able to heal his pain but not to open his heart to love. Whatever Lety touched in him has hit him hard and he is willing to fight to win her. Yes he pressured her in the sense that he kept moving in for the kiss that never happened -- but he held back from his declaration of love because hewas trying NOT to pressure her and, we now know, because he was afraid of rejection.

I admit that I’m more receptive to new age philosophy than many of you may be. I used to work with a counselor who ran weekend retreats for troubled teens. Some of the self esteem building workshops could be a little out there. I take a lot of this philosophy with a grain of salt -- but affirmations and healing thoughts can be very good for hurting and abused kids. Aldo’s way of looking a person in the eye and giving them his full attention can make a person feel valued, sometimes for the first time.

The only person on this show who sets my teeth on edge is Ariel because he is so cruel and uses his nasty putdowns of others to make himself feel powerful. Probably I react so strongly to him because he reminds me of self centered hurtful people I have known. Probably I keep on defending Aldo because he reminds me of kind healers I have known.

Lord of the Dress! Love it!

Gold star for Cap'n Sylvia! (See it up in the summary.)

Yes, I was comparing the wedding dress to the ring from The Lord of the Rings. That ring is variously called:
The Ring of Invisibility (The Dress of Inviability),
The One Ring to Rule Them All,
or simply The One Ring.
Gollum (Sméagol) calls it Preciousss.

The second line of the inscription on the ring is "One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

The One Ring could only be destroyed in the volcanic fire of Mount Doom, thus my "someone should throw that thing in the fire."

Paula and Sylvia,
I am so dense, the dress comment is flying way over my head. I don't get it, please let me in on the reference.....
Diann

Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (and most recent movies by Peter Jackson).

Diann, you are NOT dense!

Okay, I posted at the same time as the Lord of the Rings explanation.
But, I'm afraid to say, I have no clue as to what the Lord of the Rings is about. I managed to skip that whole series back in High School. (Along with every Star Wars movie--I am probably the only person from that era who has not seen a Star Wars movie)
So....the dress should be burned? Heck we all know that! Jajajaja
Diann

Diann, I'm with you. I don't get the thing about the dress. When Paula mentioned the preciousssss, I thought maybe Luigi was thinking of using the dress when he married Aldo. What do I know!!

Thanks Sylvia for saying I'm not dense.Jaja
I am not used to everyone posting so fast and furiously since I am usually at work at this time. (Thank you Mr. Presidents)
That's why I end up reading the posts so late and then answering so late. Sometimes I think I've "missed the boat" .
Diann

I've never seen/read the "Lord of The Rings" either Diann you're not alone. There was NO WAY I'd ever have gotten that reference. LOL

Proof of Fernando’s deep seated goodness – he was even able to resist the lure of The Dress of Inviability when Marcia laid it on the altar. I’ll bet Aldo would have swiped it and tried to use its power to control Lety!
-------

We all agree Fern needs to break up with Marcia. But he really hasn’t had much time. He’d have to do it at night at her apartment. His nights so far:
Day 1. The day Lety showed up at Conceptos. He declared his love at Santuario, and Lety said she forgives him and never wants to see him again. At that point he’s still banished from the office, so he’ll never see Lety except at board meetings once a month or so. Not conducive to winning her back.

Day 2. At the court he convinces Lety to let him work at Conceptos. That night he tries to make small talk and Marcia starts harping at him. With that, he can’t even stand to be in the same room with her. He leaves the room, and at bedtime he “goes out for some air” and sits outside Lety’s house. One could argue that he should’ve left Marcia on Day 2, but let’s cut him some slack. This is the first day he knew he’d even see Lety regularly. Even if he decided that day to leave Marcia, shouldn’t he have at least one day to mull it over and plan it before he implements it? Besides, he’s so aggravated with Marcia, he couldn’t calmly and respectfully break with her in this state.

Day 3. They will leave on their trips the next morning. Conceptos’ future depends on the trips. Not only is it harsh to say, “Get out of my life. And have a nice trip.” But also, Marcia would damage Conceptos instead of helping it if Fern split with her the night before her trip.

BarbaraM,
You made me laugh out loud with the Luigi wearing the dress for Aldo!!!
What a riot!!
But seriously, poor Luigi. I do think he was lead on by Knucklehead. The poor guy, what was he suppose to think when he saw Aldo carry in a huge teddy? Aldo was sending off so many gay vibes even the cuartel thought he was gay. Irmita thought he was Luigi's. Jiminy Cricket how Knuckleheaded are you suppose to be to not see what you are doing to a gay man??? And Aldo is old enough to know,,,( the man is ancient looking)
Diann

Guera - just read your comments and I think we're pretty much consistently on the same wavelength.

Whoa - I don't think Aldo is ancient looking at all...yes he's got a bit of gray going on, but he's not a bad looking guy. Just the victim of a bad wardrobe department. LOL

Paula,
thank you for pointing out it has only been 3 days. It feels so much longer because its been so drawn out.
Every point you made is very valid. Especially hurtful to Fern was when he told Lety he loves her with all the strength of his alma(soul) and she throws it back at him. This is a man who previously couldn't even put together two sentences for a love card. Now he can proclaim beautiful sentiments right to Lety's face. Of course Fern thinks she hates him, she has not given him any inkling otherwise. I admire Fern's tenacity. He just needs to keep it and strengthen it.
Diann

GP,
Aldo not ancient???? The man has crow's feet that can be seen a meter away!! Maybe its due to sun damage (Acapulco is very sunny) but his whole persona is that of Lety's father rather than a lover. Blech.
Fernando's playfulness is more in tune with our Lety. Remember early on Fernando told Lety he has never felt more like himself than when he is with her. (At his house, the night of Stalker Pilar) And we all know Lety has been her true self around Fern.
Diann

Diann - I'll have to watch that ep (haven't seen it yet), but I'll check it out. I guess I'm at the age where I don't mind a few crows feet. I like to think they are the result of a combo of laughter and sunshine!

@ Paula - yes it's been 3 days, but in all honesty going back to Marcia should have never been a choice if Fern truly loved Lety. That's just how I feel about it- I know it happens, but I think it's just another sign that he isn't ready yet!

Paula,
I too connected the dots regarding Jaime's state of shagginess at Angie's wedding and the movie.
I noticed he wasn't shaven at the PLN rehearsals, then again at the show..and I thought Huhhh.(Since I know he goes without shaving while traveling I thought he'd be shaven for PLN) THEN at Angie's wedding I was like HUHHHH!!
Perfectly explainable now with the Chiapas pic.
Diann

Let me explain the One Ring reference and how it applies to our La Fea characters. Without getting too complicated, the One Ring was a malevolent power and would eventually corrupt and enslave whoever was wearing it. The wearer would eventually lose their identity to the ring. It's corrupting power was greatest to individuals inclined to evil and selfishness. Individuals with noble and true hearts were less affected by the ring's power. Wise individuals shunned the ring knowing that they could lose themselves to its power.

Alicia and Marcia are affected by the Preciouss Dress, they are greedy and are determined to get what they want at any cost. Fernando senses the Preciouss Dress symbolizes the destruction of his true self so he shuns it.

Paula, did I cover it? Did I leave anything out?

PERFECT, Sylvia! Much obliged. I knew that you could condense it down to the essentials whereas I'd wander aimlessly. Thank you!

The date at Fernando's house was in Caps 110 and 111.

Tomorrow we have one good cap and one great one, one of my Top 10. I am actually able to tell you what to look for, and it won't involve spoilers! Obviously the fight continues. Listen carefully to what Aldo tells Fern during the fight. Not just one particular sentence, but his whole monologue.

Remember that Ariel insisted on meeting Lety at a restaurant. That will be in #224. You know that whenever they're together, it's Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner all over again. Powder burns and all!

Part of #224 will be interspersed with Aldo talking to his dad. Listen carefully. It's not just a diversion from the main scenes. Both Aldo and Fausto (Aldad) say some significant stuff.

Paula, thanks for your splendid analytical work on these recaps. My work hours have messed up my LFMB watching, so I haven't commented much lately. I do read the new summaries and comments and enjoy all the insight.
La Paloma

One last question about that darn dress--
Does anyone know exactly what Fern said to Alicia and Marcia after Marcia told him she couldn't keep in at the apt anymore?
It seems to be something significant, but for the life of me, I can't translate it. (Even with multiple rewinds, he says it so fast)
Thanks,
Diann

Sure Diann. Empeñar - to pawn or hock. Fern warns Marcia that Ali will sell the dress or hock it to pay for her Mercedes, and it's worth more than the Mercedes.

Paula, I also like how you pointed out that the magical dress that had been so precious and enchanting to Marcia was exactly the opposite in Fernando's eyes. (Well, nose.) Apparently, the ring, er, dress's mystique is limited only to the delusional few.

Did anyone notice how Agus Arana and Jaime almost lost it again when Omar was reading Fernando's palm and he made a similiar noise with his mouth as when Lety had her daydream when she stabbed him with the pencil? Jaime remembered that blooper and he actually giggled, it might have taken a few tries for them not to lose it laughing since Agus sounded just like back then.
Paula,
since they repeated the scene where Fernando asks himself in front of Omar how to get Lety back, I noticed what you said, that his last words were those and then everything after that was ad-lib and Agus was totally lost.

yes, that is what Fernando said when he covered aldo's mouth... 'I could say it too but she wouldn't believe me!!'
I also agree that it was not the time for Fernando to say it out loud since it would look like he was just matching Aldo move by move. That kind of thing is more meaningful in private. I agree.

I am pretty much of the same accord as Guerra and Georgia Peach about Aldo. I think he truly loves Lety and is a very good influence on her--building her self-esteem and broadening her outlook.
As for age--I posted a week ago their actual ages--and Aldo is about 10 yrs older than Lety.
Also i think Aldo with longer hair and facial hair looks younger. I must say he sports a pair of jeans quite well.
Here lemme find it;
Name birthdate age @ time LFMB

Lety/ 11/75 31 yrs
Fernando 7/73 33 yrs old

Omar 8/68 38 yrs old
Aldo 1/66 40 " "
Luigi '66 40

Marie (Philly),
Chronological age has nothing to do with whether I think someone is "too old" or not. Granted , I won't deny I think he is old looking, but mainly I think his attitude is that of an old person.
He is too stogy and solemn for Lety. He is too boring, too wordy. To me he is ancient. (Hmmm, maybe it ties back to my theory he is not of this earth or time....)
Anyway, I stand by the "He is Too Old for Lety"
Diann

I was shocked, again, when Aldo threw the first punch. He always acts like he is above it all and throws out some BS new agey stuff. He is seriously losing it. I agree that he is starting to think that Fern really does love Lety despite what Caro thought, and it is unnerving him. Then again he is pushing a relationship with Lety way too fast and doesn't seem to be perceptive enough to see that she is not ready.

PG and his vacant stare at the cuartel doesn't surprise me. They are so brainless he probably can't get a reading from them. LOL. Interesting the reference to a foreign woman who will bring Lety pain.

I heard Omar's little scream and if I remember from before we might hear it yet again. I wonder is it is Augie's way of getting back at Jamie for all that ad libing.

As if Alicia could stuff her girls into Marcia dress. She has those things jacked up so high it looks painful. Patty must be a good sport to risk a Janet Jackson moment if she takes too deep a breath.

what strikes me as painful in Patricia Navidad, is how she tightens up the corset to make her waist so small... I know she has curves... but that must be real tight for her waist to look THAT small.

I must say I wasn't impressed with either of those guys physically playing tug-of-war with Lety. Talk about treating a woman like an object!

I agree with those who say she needs to get away from both of them. But if she still needs Aldo to keep her away from Fernando, she'd need yet another person to help her stay away from Aldo!

What the woman needs is a bodyguard!

Decie girl, when you said, "I was shocked, AGAIN, when Aldo threw the first punch," for just a moment I thought you meant because you'd seen Fea before, and you were shocked by this episode then, too. It reminded me of an old Sven & Ole joke:

Sven and Ole were watching the news. A man was on the ledge of a tall building and the police were trying to talk him down. Sven said, "I think he's going to jump." Ole said, "He's not going to jump." Sven said, "I'm so sure of it I'll bet you five dollars." Ole said, "I'll take that bet."

The man jumped. Ole got out his five dollars. Sven said, "Ole, I cannot take your money. I have to confess, I saw this on the news earlier, so I knew he was going to jump." Ole said, "Take your money, Sven. I saw it too, but I did not think he would be dumb enough to try it again."

What scares me about Alicia's wardrobe is that Televisa typically works its actors 14 hours per day, seven days per week. And Alicia has a LOT of screen time. That can't be healthy to be constricted like that for more than a year of your life.

I had something else to say. I'm sure I'll remember right after I hit "post."
