La Fea Más Bella #257-258 3/17/11 Team Fernando gains four new members but loses an important game.
Read Amanda's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.
1. Fernando manhandles Aldo like Aldo does to Lety, to get him away from her. Fern says the cave is now his office, and Aldo loses his cool.
2. Tom tells Ali he’s trying to get her hired back as his secretary. Aldo asks Luigi to get to know Lety, and to respect her. In exchange, he’ll openly recognize Luigi as the genius of Conceptos.
3. Fernando ponders the cave in a very moving scene. He still feels her essence there. He remembers just before she left. He remembers that he lost her forever, and it was his own fault.
4. Omar tells Caro how much he loves Aurora. She brought light to the emotions he kept hidden. You can tell Caro wishes those emotions were directed at her. He asks her to get him another date.
5. Aldo tells Erasmo that he bought Conceptos’ debt for Lety. Erasmo proclaims him part of the family.
6. Humberto respects Fernando for becoming Lety’s assistant. It means he’s maturing and wants to save the company. He promises his support. Marcia’s angry but FrostyPop tells her to lose her bitterness, and she agrees. If only he would’ve told her that months ago!
7. Ali hogs three sandwiches so there aren’t enough for the kids. Lola kicks her out for abusing their hospitality.
8. Fernando uses Luigi’s cake as an excuse to go to Lety’s. The menfolk want to kick him out. MamaJ invites him to stay, and Lety doesn’t argue.
9. Tom offers to put Ali in a mid-range hotel. She objects that it’s not good enough, but he’s broke from paying for the sandwiches. For once she accepts reality instead of blaming it on him.
10. Erasmo asks why the men aren’t married (why doesn’t Aldo say that his wife died two years ago?). Moty interrupts the awkward moment by dragging out Aurora’s wig.
11. Fern and Aldo scrap, and Fern gives him a ride home. Con rancor! Pop recalls what he heard the men say, and he wonders if they are fighting over Lety. Mama tells Lety she needs to decide.
Capitulo 258.
Read Julie's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.
1. Pop tells Lety she can’t go playing with two men like that. Lety doesn’t know who she loves. Aldo is honest, but Fern is Don Fernando. Pop doesn’t understand, but we do. After Lety leaves, Mama says she thinks Lety will end up with Fern. Pop says he likes Aldo.
2. Tom asks Aldo how to get Ali to like him. Marcia tells Ali she can sleep at her place tonight.
3. Caro tells Lety she thinks this time Omar is really in love. His card reminds Lety of how much pain he caused her, and he has made many women suffer. It’s time for him to get a taste of his own medicine. Caro warns of the dangers of revenge.
4.
Fernando interrupts Aldo who is getting nose-to-nose with Lety.
5. Marcia surprises Fern while he’s gazing at the picture of him and Lety, taken while he was still engaged to Marcia. Shrew Marcia would take this opportunity to make a cutting remark, but kinder, gentler Marcia overlooks it and offers her support while he tries to rescue Conceptos.
6. Tom sells his car so he can buy a house. But Ali says it’s not good enough and she’ll stay with Marcia.
7. Aurora meets Omar for lunch and yanks him around like a puppet on a string. She says the meal isn’t good enough so Omar calls for the chef. Aurora leaves his table and sits with two other men. Chef Aldo comes out. He sees Aurora but doesn’t recognize her. Omar is stunned to see Aldo. When he turns, Aurora is gone.
8. Teresita is appalled that Fern works in the cave. Fern says it’s a big challenge for him. He lost the company by arrogance. He wants to win it back by humility, and he can learn that from Lety. Humberto says he admires what Fern is doing, promises his support, and is proud of him. At dinner, Fern tells his dad that he’s in love for the first time in his life, and it’s with Lety.
9. Lety wrestles with her choice. Fern evokes passion, but Aldo sacrificed everything for her. “Do I want to keep suffering with Fernando, or give myself an opportunity with Aldo?” Aldo would never make her suffer. And if she accepted him, he might be even sweeter. She had a relationship with Fernando and it ended in tears. “How would it be with Aldo?”
10. Lety finds Aldo in the park. She steps up and gives him a big kiss, and the sprinklers go off (Fernando should pray for a drought in DF). Lety tells him she loves him. She says, “I believe we should give ourselves an opportunity to be together.”

GO, TEAM!
Fern knows that when Lety was his asst, she proved herself valuable and he gradually fell in love. He’s hoping this Full Circle thing will work for him, and she'll fall for his asst like he did.
Last week, someone said something like, "If Jaime Camil didn't win a premio for this, the judges are nuts." Well, he didn't win. Fea virtually swept the awards, so everyone was stunned when he didn't win. Fea broke all sorts of records, and Camil carried the show through a fair amount of the run.
In the TVyNovelas premios (which is Televisa only), the public votes, but the judges have the final word. The public voting was overwhelming for Camil, but Ed Yañez won for something I can't remember (not DA).
The best explanation I've heard is that Camil is not contracted to Televisa. TVisa essentially owns almost all their actors. But they don't own Camil. That's why you see him doing projects for Univision, etc. And why you won't see any Televisa regulars on the new Univision TNs. Anyway, apparantly TVisa wasn't about to give their Best Actor award to an outside, regardless of public opinion, regardless of the quality of the performance, regardless of what a blockbuster he delivered to them.
I can not stomach the way it has turned.
I literally got sick to my stomach at the last scene of 258. Had I eaten lunch I would have lost it. Seriously.
How despicable the writers are to have done this to the viewers.
Totally disillusioned,
Diann
So Lety wants to have a relationship with Aldo because of all he's done for her. Okay, let's count it off. She is now insecure, weak in decision-making skills, child-like, and all because she met Aldo who treats her as if she is a dim-witted child. With Fernando, she had self-confidence, strength, could make a decision without falling apart, and had a smile wider than a mile (sorry Moon River).
I'm the one that asked about Jaime Camil winning an award for this role. I think Yanez won for La Verdad Oculta, in which he was very good but not as good as Jaime in La Fea. What a shame that his wonderful talent did not receive the recognition it deserved. Politics - what a pain!
Finally, no matter if Lety is willing to have a relationship with Aldo, he still makes my skin crawl. Has she so totally lost her mind that she doesn't realize that her instinctive reactions to Aldo are to pull away? And now she wants to have a relationship with him. What a masochist? I'm beginning to think that she does deserve Aldo, who will drop her like a hot potato when their relationship is no longer fun and meeting his needs.

Back on Monday, GP said, “they are going to make us all suffer some more.” Boy howdy! Last Friday’s caps were ecstasy; this Friday’s are agony.
When Lety found the letter, we had four caps of suffering, then the plot moved on. When Fern read the diary, we had one cap of suffering, then the plot moved on. Friday Fern will find out Lety chose Aldo (I don’t consider that a spoiler; you don’t need to be Jorge Flores to figure that one out) and we’ll have suffering, and by Monday the plot will move on.
One thing helped me with Caps 259 and 260. Full Circle. Fern has to go through everything Lety went through for him. Look for “Full Circle” events and themes Friday. I think you’ll find several if you look for them.
And we have some fun stuff coming up next week. So hang in there.
Ed was put into a very awkward situation and handled it brilliantly - he won the night. Jaime looked noble and lofty when he wholeheartedly congratulated Ed instead of pouting like certain performers that night - he won that night. And Televisa looked like grand fools to everyone watching - they were the losers.
I can honestly say I didn't see today's ending coming at all. I thought it would take a few more weeks of hemming and hawing from Lety before she made her decision. I think getting together with Aldo will be instructive for Lety...maybe she'll continue healing during this time. I still think getting into a relationship with Aldo at this point would still be considered a 'rebound' situation.
I had hoped that Lety would actually not choose either guy right away and just get herself straight, but the writers of the show felt differently eh?
Ultimately - I get why Lety chose Aldo. He's safe. He's solid. Plus he's already shown in several ways that he'd do just about anything to make her happy. Who doesn't want to be doted on in that way at least for a little while?
Plus Fern crushed Lety's heart. It takes a long time to get over heartbreak like she experienced with him. Sometimes after that kind of heartbreak you want to protect your heart by hardening it and not being the one to love as hard as the other person. She still can't trust that Fern wouldn't cause her the same pain as before...even though he seems different now (remember it's only been a week now right?)
I don't think Aldo is using emotional blackmail...he answer Erasmo's question honestly. In fact it's true - he's sold everything to get this woman. It's a big risk because there is no guarantee that they are capable of re-paying his loan. In fact I'd say with the way they seem to spend more time focused on Lety's love life at that place it's a wonder anything gets done there!!
One storyline that annoys me is Lety's using this Aurora character to get revenge on Omar. It just seems so pointless because all she does is run away from their dates leaving him panting for more. When is the payoff for this storyline? I hate the idea of her going on these silly dates with Omar plus the fact that it's technically cheating on whomever she's dating. I really hope it's all resolved quickly!! I'm sure the resolution will involve this "televisa" contest everyone keeps talking about...
Team Aldo picked up Erasmo today... although I was very surprised that he picked anyone...
I think my fave scenes today were the moments with Fern and Aldo. Those guys are hysterical together and I love the chemistry they have...it's always fun like two kids arguing.
I was surprised by Marcia today. I wonder if Fern will again go back to her as a crutch this time when he finds out Lety has chosen Aldo. If he's truly grown as much as we think he has, then he won't choose anyone else & he won't go back to Marcia (for a while at least).
You've all mentioned a few full circle things here, but I'm curious does anyone think Lety will actually have Fern to do anything questionable like cooking the books, etc like he did with her? I hope not, but it's just a thought I had along those lines...someone else mentioned him helping her to cover up for things in the past. I wonder also if he's willing to be the 2nd banana to Aldo like Lety was to his relationship with Marcia...that would be a very humbling place for Don. Fernando...that's something I'd be interested in them exploring although I don't think we have nearly enough time left for all of that...
oh & today Fern picked up his bonsai tree...Decie was right he just needed two hands to grab it. His bit with that tree is really funny - I love the running gag of him spending all of that time nurturing it...
Aldo is still a creep in my book with his little talk to Luigi and his sucking up to Erasmo. I do have to admit that his scenes with Fern and the two of them always hissing at each are hilarious.
I am disgusted with Lety opting to torment Omar. She admits she forgave Fern but she can't ever forgive Omar. Excuse me dummy all he did was come up with the idea and write the cards you swooned over. Fern practically had to hold his nose to even touch you but him you forgive. I admit I've got major problems with women who play with men's feelings. Even Caro warned her not to do it and that it was dangerous. But once again Lety who ignores any advice unless it comes wrapped in some cr*p about el mar choses to ignore her. Someone said it is cheating and it is. It is also deceitful but then that's our Lety.
Lord but the cuartel and Ali and Tomy Boy are getting on my last nerve. Their screeching and meddling is off the charts and his acting like a fawning idiot is ceasing to be funny. Oddly enough there are times when I think Ali forgets her drive for money and position and actually likes him but then she reverts to being annoying.
And what the heck is the matter with the costume department at Televisa. First Lety and her clown coat, Mama Bozo and Aurora with that ghastly red hair and now Marcia dressed in her peasant blouse, with boots, headband and that horrible shade of lipstick. Plop her down in the green room and it enough to make you lose your last meal.
I don't think Fern is being a wuss - I think he's trying to pay a karma bill. He's working off a personal debt as well as a professional one. He knows how much he owes Lety.
The extension. Yes. As disappointed as I am in Lety, I just keep in mind that she's not the "real" Gaitan Betty. She's Ocampo/Televisa's Alternate Universe Lety.
People have noted repeatedly, both now and in 2007, that Aldo has better chemistry with Fernando than with Lety. (Well, who wouldn't have great chemistry wth Fernando?) That's why it was so mysterious to me, both now and especially then, why some people sincerely thought Aldo was the better guy for Lety. Lety's not comfortable with him! Sometimes she has fun when they do things together, but they're always things that would be fun anyway. It's not about him; it's about the activity.
Aldo and Lety need Luigi's cooperation in order to save Conceptos, so you can definitely see a few advantages to getting Luigi to be nice to Lety. But the net effect would be to make the world a better place, and it won't especially pay off in Aldo's relationship with Lety (not that it would make things worse, I'm just saying it's not comparable to making friends with Tomas.)
I don't think Lety was cavalier in choosing Aldo. I think she just needed to do something to end all the uncertainty and move on. She's been in limbo for too long and kept Fern and Aldo there in the process as well. Sometimes it's better to take a chance and possibly make a mistake than to sit around wringing your hands.
I put in a new disc and hopefully it won't keep happening, but if it does, my warranty's good till September. People tell you that extended warranties are a ripoff, but they're not if you've bought something with a DVD burner in it. Those tend to be flaky. 3 out of 4 of these machines I've bought in the last four years (two different brands) have had serious problems. One of those is dead. The fourth is still new, so not broken yet; just flaky.
Anyway, I now realize that this means that once again, I won't be able to watch some of the episodes that I feel very emotional about. If that's a coincidence, maybe it's a mercy, too. :)
I was listening to Patsy Cline n the car this morning and came up with the following two additional songs:
For Lety to sing to Fernando: "Why Can't He Be You"
For Fernando to sing to Lety: "When You Need a Laugh"
Now that I've had a good look at those lyrics, they're not absolutely perfect matches, especially the laughing one (I don't think Lety is laughing at Fern). But the titles fit!
I also remember there were a couple of telling things in the Caro/Omar conversation. Yes Caro did seem to have hoped that Omar was talking about her. They have always had a flirty kind of friendship relationship so looks like for one of them it might have become something else. Omar also said that Aurora brought light to the emotions he always kept hidden. Several of us have thought for some time he was not as unfeeling and shallow as he appears. He has done a good job of hiding it because even Fern who knows him best seems surprised by his talking about being in love.
I think Lety has separation anxiety. Lety stood firm against Fernando until she found out he was leaving, then she fell into his arms. She kept telling Aldo she didn't love him, until she saw that she'd lose him.
It makes no sense for her to have separation anxiety since she had plenty of security in her family, but there it is.
