La Fea Más Bella #261-262 3/21/11 Marcia is Supportive, Fernando is Supportive, Aldo is Jealous.

Capitulo 261.
Read k-Fuego's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Fernando stands crying and says, “In reality, Lety, my story with you was always a dream.”

2. Aldo says having Fern in the cave bothers him because it makes it hard for Lety. She answers that she can’t take that from him; he needs to earn his family’s respect. GSNAK.

3. Fern tells Omar that he’s finished (lamenting?). It’s time to take action. To win Lety back, first he has to pay off Aldo and get the company back.

4. The cuartel tells Omar where to find Aurora. They watch him look for her in a park. He sees her and tries to kiss her, but it’s Luigi in a wig, and he wants a kiss.

5. Fernando writes in his diary that Aldo took the love of his life today. Fern decides to write his memoirs.

6. Lety tells Caro she won’t be Aurora anymore. (3 times). Caro says she should stop disguising herself as a fea. Lety says she likes being fea better.

7. Lola discovers that Aurora lives on the same street as Lety. Sara says they live on the same street and both are friends of Sara, so Aurora must be Lety. Caro tells Omar to stop bugging her about Aurora, and if he can’t, then she doesn’t want to see him.

8. Omar boasts that Aurora is his lover, and no woman has ever been able to resist him. Lety laughs scornfully. He says Aurora’s nothing like Lety who is a gargoyle, bat, monster, and beyond ugly. Aldo hears it and orders Omar to stop talking like that and apologize publicly.

9. Tom proposes to Alicia. She refuses.

10. Fern tells the shareholders he’s selling his assets to pay toward the debt, and he asks for their support. At least it will make a big dent. It would help if they joined him. Ariel flatly refuses. His parents don’t answer. Omar is unwilling.

Capitulo 262.
Read Alma's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Fern thanks Marcia for her support. See the transcript. They share a sweet, warm companionship.

2. Aurora meets Omar while PhG takes pictures. Omar says his idiot friend wants him to sell his assets to pay the debt – no way! Aurora is disappointed that Omar’s a coward and won’t take risks for his friend. To make her happy, Omar will sell all he has.

3. Tom cries to Aldo that Ali rejected his proposal. Aldo says he should serenade her.

4. Fern looks for an apartment. He’s confused when Marcia laughs – she’s not criticizing him or yelling at him. She wants to recover her “luminous” self, and she toasts to the new poor. She falls asleep on the couch. He tucks her in and kisses Lety’s picture goodnight.

5. PhG grabs Aurora outside her house. Sara comes out to check the ruckus. Aurora slips away.

6. Lety tells MamaJ she chose Aldo. Mama’s disappointed it wasn’t Fernando, and she’s worried for his suffering, but she supports her daughter.

7. Fern asks Lety to stop avoiding him. They need to work together, and he promises not to push her. He moves in close to prove that he’s safe. Just then Aldo walks in. Fern ducks into the cave but warns Aldo, “If you don’t make her happy, you’ll have me to answer to!”

8. Aldo does his Marcia impression, upset because Lety didn’t answer his calls last night. Aldo says he doesn’t know how to deal with jealousy. He wants to take Lety back to the beach. Aldo gets all GSNAK, but Lety doesn’t!

9. Interesting meeting. Marcia will sell her assets. Ariel won’t. Omar will; a wonderful woman convinced him. Fern’s parents won’t sell any of their four (or five?) houses. Fern says Aldo sold all his assets to save Conceptos from the auction block, and that inspired Fern. He’s making this move out of love and respect for his parents. Aldo says he was worried for people’s jobs. Ariel takes it as an insult. Aldo says he thought their family was more united. They’re turning their back on Fernando who’s trying to save the company, but Aldo’s impressed by what he’s doing.

10. In the vortex, Aldo makes Omar apologize to Lety, and Fern helps. Lety hugs Aldo and tries to shake Fern’s hand but Aldo drags her back.

11. Aurora’s phone rings. Lety decides to not answer it. Son-of-Marcia decides to answer it for her. Remind you of anyone?

Spanish Lesson. Marcia supports Fernando.
F: Honestly, I never imagined.. you have no idea how much I appreciate that you supported me.
M: All this time I’ve been thinking. I’ve realized that some things are more important (than possessions) and one of them is, well, (matter-of-factly) te quiero.
F: (worried) I thought everything was clear between us.
M: No, don’t misunderstand me. I’ve already accepted my place in your life as your friend, your compañera. It’s very important for me, for all the good memories. I don’t want to lose you. I am willing to support you as long as you’re going to recover the company.
F: You don’t know how good it is to hear that. Because now more than ever, I need.. ..
M: (finishes for him) People that love (querer) you.
F: Yes. Now I am convinced that I’m doing the right thing. We need to recover our company.
M: Yes, and that it will belong to the families like it did before. Um, before everything happened.
F: Forgive me, Marcia.
M: Why? (For what?)
F: I’m sorry that.. I didn’t think.. I never dreamed that you’d be willing to sell everything to support me.
M: Nobody is happy to lose their luxury assets. It’s painful. But entertaining. I guess I’m getting used to losing things. (She laughs. Fern feels guilty.) In bad times, put on a good face. Like Irma says.

Comments:
When Fern talks about his book title and he mentions Region 4, Pirate, he’s referring to the DVD region codes. Latin America is Region 4. They’ll often use that in jokes, and it means, “The Latin American version of X.” e.g. telling Omar, “You’re Shakespeare, Region 4.”

Lety and Alicia, equal and opposite. Alicia refuses Tom’s proposal two days after Lety does not choose Fernando.

Lety has gone back to keeping secrets (Aurora) from her mother. I thought she learned her lesson.

I understand why Ariel won’t sell his assets, but note how angry he is that Omar will. That doesn’t harm Ariel at all. Instead it makes his company shares more valuable. But Ariel has an irrational knee-jerk reaction against anything Fernando does.

Why did Aurora go out on this date? She went on the first date to get the earring. But this one???

Thank you, Pata, for the screen shots. I like the contrast between the hugs. It speaks volumes, that Lety presses against Fernando but her body is pulled away from Aldo.

Pata had an interesting analysis when she sent me the screenshots:

You stated you wanted the difference of how Lety hugged, but I think the difference is more in how Fern and Aldo hug Lety. Let’s look at Fern’s:
1. It is long. 24 seconds.
2. Fern is hanging on for dear life.
3. There is never any patting or petting or what i refer to as "Okay that is enough"
4. They are very close, no space in between them.
5. There is a tremendous emotional content.
6. He lets his chin rest on the top of her head.

Now look at Aldo’s hug:
1. It is barely 4 seconds long.
2. Aldo is barely hanging on.
3. There is a huge space between them.
4. It was so brief but I swear I saw Aldo do the petting at the end (to say ‘that’s enough’).
5. No chin rest.
6. Not much emotion.

I know you didn't want a spiel on hugs, but I have to say this because throughout the entire show I have always felt that Fern was the best hugger. He always seems to be able to nestle in just right and always will rest his chin on Lety's head which is always so endearing to watch. Maybe it is the height thing, but I think it is the chemistry between the two of them that we have seen throughout this show.

Paula,
You asked us to notice something in cap262 between Lety/Aldo after Aldo "catches" Fern/Lety in a "compromising" position.
What I noticed, after Fern went back into his office:
Aldo had a very ugly look on his face and it was directed at Lety. Never saw that kinda look of Fern, ever.
When Lety came around the desk to talk to Aldo about it she quickly crossed her arms in front of him.
And the stuff you already mentioned, no GSNAK from Lety, only of Alpo's end. And the differences in hugs, obivio.

Diann

Never saw that kinda look on Fern, ever.

Is what I meant to type.
Diann

Diann: AND, Aldo called Lety "Leticia" as if he were scolding a child. Very Interesting. Even if he typically calls her Leticia just the tone in his voice was slightly pejorative. On the other hand, Fern's not a complete angel either. For a split second his expression of mock shock seemed a bit self-satisfied, not that I blame him.

I love the excellent hug analysis. Good job on the pics and review of hugs. Also very notable that Lety wasn't at all GSNAK after Aldo "caught" her and Fern, in fact it was the usual his invading her space and her backing up. Paula, I laughed when you described Aldo doing his Marcia impression. Exactly!! Not to mention he was going to butt in and answer her phone? He's too pushy.

I am actually surprised that Fern didn't get more support from his family (except Ariel of course). Humbo and Mami couldn't have helped just a little? I guess they have decided that Fern got them into this mess and it's up to him to get them out. I wonder if Aldo will reconsider the stupid things he said to Fernando in an earlier episode about Fernando having it all as a kid.

Paula, you asked the question why did Aurora go on the second date? I think this time it was purely to stick it to Omar and make him suffer a bit more. Quite an about-face considering she swore off Aurora that very day. She ended up helping Fernando by getting Omar to agree to sell his things but there was no way she could have known that going into the meeting. She almost got busted this time; it's a dangerous game she's playing IF she wants to keep her alter-ego a secret. If she wants to get caught then I guess she should just keep meeting Omar.

I could have sworn that Sarah recognized Lety in Aurora but she didn't mention later.

I forgot to thank Pata, Paula and the other recappers for the great work on this episode. Thanks all.

Lety is a wuss. She chose Aldo because he's the safe bet. She cannot embrace her non-fea side, i.e. Aurora because she's afraid. Lety is only content with what keeps her in her comfort zone and Aldo does. He's bossy, interfering, nosy, advice-drive just like Lety's parents. So she has exchanged one golden cage for another. Fernando, on the other hand, is willing to set her free for her to become the person she was meant to be.

I couldn't believe Aldo's look when he caught Fernando leaning across Lety's desk. It was like a schoolteacher admonishing a disruptive student. Who in the world does he think he is and then he goes and gets all possessive like Marcia. "I couldn't reach you on the phone last night - where were you? Is Aldo Lety's jailer?

Fernando just keeps taking giant steps towards the man he's supposed to be. His willingness to give up his assets to benefit the company was an honorable, intelligent action. He has no hidden motive, unlike Aldo when he bought the company. Fernando simply wants Conceptos back in the black.

In my opinion, when Lety is willing to embrace the Aurora inside of her, she will be ready to embrace Fernando again. Both represent a risk and a moving out of her comfort zone.

One more thing I have noticed. Lety doesn't even understand herself. She clings to Fernando in hugs but puts distance between her and Aldo. Lety's trying to make Omar pay not only for his sins but also for encouraging Fernando to do what he did. But she doesn't understand that because she doesn't know herself. Until she knows herself, she'll never be able to fully give herself lock, stock, and barrel to anyone. Yes, she did sleep with Fernando but she did it as a fea. What will happen when she is forced to embrace Aurora?

My premise has always been that being around Aldo makes Lety regress - she becomes weak and infantile. So here's the question - after she spent a little time with Fernando (when he sat on her desk), did that affect her? Did it cause her to be more strong and mature when Aldo arrived?

Wow! Aldo is becoming Marcia, possessive, controlling, suffocating, jealous, suspicious. But he always puts a sweet face on it all, and says it’s because he loves her so much. He gets harsh, then quickly shifts to kissyface. Remember when Marcia would ream out Fernando? He’d get mad, then she’d change to slinky sex kitten mode to make him not angry. Another parallel with Marcia: The president is having good-natured fun with the assistant, until the novio comes in and throws cold water on the party. The assistant goes to the cave and listens to it all.

Is there some sort of overlap between Lety and Conceptos in Fern's mind? Or is it that he sees paying the debt as a way to win back Lety? So he talks publicly about being driven to pay the debt, but that is really Fernando code for "win Lety"? I ask because look at some of the things he says, supposedly about the company, but equally true about Lety: "I have paid dearly for my errors. Now I need to do something to recover Conceptos. The company is practically in the hands of Aldo. And I have to rescatarla (can mean rescue her or rescue it)."

Yes, Paula, Aldo is Marcia in male clothing. After Lety had been with Fernando, she was more assertive with Aldo, which I don't think he liked. In Fernando's mind, Lety and Conceptos are tied up together. Until he has either totally won one or lost one, he won't give up on either.

Another point, Aurora has backbone - that hidden backbone that is Lety but she won't let come out. When Lety embraces Aurora as being a part of who she really is then Aldo is in for a shock. He'll not be able to control Lety like he does now.

By the way, Marcia scored points with me by being willing to sell her assets and not to do it to win Fernando but just to support him and be his friend. She, too, is maturing.

Wow, Barbara - you really have a knack for noticing things, like Aurora being Lety's backbone in disguise!

Paula, what you say about Lety and Conceptos overlapping in Fern's mind makes a lot of sense. The next question is, how long has that overlap been there? Since "para no perder a Conceptos"?
Also, thanks for explaining the Region 4 joke. I thought it might refer to DVD region codes, but wasn't sure what the connection was.

The cuartel actually gave me one of my favorite moments in these episodes. It was hilarious when Tomás was so distraught that he put his hand in the pizza & then took it in his hands and ripped it to shreds. He was funny. The look on Marta's face was priceless.

I'm also enjoying Alicia more and more. She is so over the top.

Fernando was devastatingly good tonight. His face is magic. He doesn't need to say a word.

Güera

Lety tells Caro she prefers to be fea. Is that somehow tied into her choice of Aldo? It seems like there’s some connection there, but I can’t pin it down.

Yes, Marcia is changing. Humberto advised her to lose the shrew, but she has gone far beyond that. I think the when she sees how much Fern has remade himself, it inspires her to make something more of herself too. Also, back when they had a relationship, they both enabled the other's destructive behavior. Marcia turned a blind eye to his lies and andanzas, and he kept sleeping with her even though she was intolerable in the light of day. When he broke up, he laid the cards on the table clearly. Maybe now, with the codependency broken, she is applying what she learned from their break-up.

Fern again takes the roll of Lety’s protector (If you don’t make her happy, you’ll have me to answer to!), and again Lety doesn’t protest! He’s gaining ground! He hasn't regained the patron role yet, since she hasn't made a clear demonstration of supporting him. But the fact that she's letting him behave like her protector is a step toward taking him back as her patron.

“Aldo says he doesn’t know how to deal with jealousy. He wants to take Lety back to the beach.” That’s how he wants to deal with jealousy: take her away from any possible threat. Why do I imagine a house far from neighbors, with bars on the windows (to keep her safe, of course), and every day when Aldo leaves for work he locks Lety inside and takes the telephone with him? But it does have a great view of the beach. What more could she want?

I'm really hoping this Aurora storyline wraps quickly. It's honestly one of my least fave parts to watch because I think that the moments Aurora shares with Omar never resolves anything or makes any sort of point. She always rushes out and I don't think he ever gets the message she's trying to convey. Maybe she's going just to make him fall even more in love with her so that when it is revealed that she's Aurora it will hurt even more? It just seems sort of half baked and I find it annoying.

I did laugh when Luigi turned around dressed in that Aurora wig begging for a kiss from Omar. :) Funniest moment in the show tonight I thought.

I'm glad Sara figured it out, bummer that Omar talked her out of the truth. Someone mentioned that they thought she recognized Lety (as Aurora) and I think there was sort of a moment there where it looked as if she did, but alas no mention of it.

I think Lety telegraphs guilt towards Aldo and that's why he's suspicious. I honestly don't understand how Aldo would even trust going into a relationship with someone who was engaged just two days ago to the man who is her assistant. I think he's been quite honest with her that he's not comfortable with the situation as is with Fern. That said - he was quite domineering today - in his interactions with Lety and with Omar.

I'd also like to point out that Fern was no angel with Lety when he was jealous...in cap. 138 he manhandled her at the Yuri event when he felt she wasn't honoring her commitment to spend the night with him. I just wonder why we're willing to forgive him that, but we're so hard on Aldo for expressing a little bit of his jealousy, which imho he sort of has a right to be given her former lover is still very much a big part of her life. I think Fern's treatment of Lety was even more dispicable because he actually physically gets aggressive with her! Then later on he gets into a fight with Tomas when he thinks Lety was involved with him.

I want to point out that I think Lety is the one who actually initiates the GSNAK stuff with Aldo (not him, he was still mean mugging it at the time) and I think she uses it to distract him. She leans into him and teases him about his jealousy. I think she's learning to use flirtation with him to diffuse the situation. I loved the full circle of having Fern listen through the door as they talked and even flirted. I don't think Lety ever came out and interrupted Fern and Marcia though.

Aldo threatening to answer Lety's phone was totally unacceptable to me. She really needs to set him straight, but again I think that her reaction to the phone call sort of telegraphs her guilt. I'm sure he thinks she has yet another suitor waiting in the wings. I'll be interested to see what his reaction is when he finds out Aurora is actually Lety.

That family meeting(s) were pretty sad in both instances. Poor Fern never catches a break from his family (except for Marcia) they never really ever seem to want to support him. In the meeting at Conceptos I felt like Aldo redeemed himself by standing up for Fern and calling them on their BS. That's why I don't understand why this character is so inconsistently written...it's very strange to me why they even give him these moments if he's truly the villain in this piece or if he's truly controlling towards Lety.

Great hug analysis - although I sort of felt like the hug pictured with Fern in this instance was actually one of the more awkward hugs she has with him throughout this series. I remember thinking that she was giving him one of her awkward hugs that day. Looking at the pics it looks as if Lety is keeping her naughty bits far far away from Aldo's. LOL

I was pleasantly surprised by Marcia. I guess Humb's words to her have really made a difference. He probably should have talked to her about a year ago and then maybe we wouldn't be talking about Fern & Lety being star crossed lovers!

Paula, Lety prefers to be fea because it is safer for her. She prefers to have a relationship with Aldo because it is safer for her. Basically, Lety is scared of life, scared of herself because she doesn't know herself, and scared of situations that throw her off kilter. In other words, she's a wuss except when Fernando is there to be the wind beneath her wings.

Double banging before going to bed. Aldo does not challenge Lety. He is comfortable with her being fea and so dependent upon him. Fernando challenges Lety to be more than she believes herself to be. A relationship with Fernando means she has to grow up and learn to stand on her own two feet. A relationship with Aldo is like her relationship with her parents (dependency) except in the former there will be sex.

I agree with you Barbara - Aldo isn't really a challenge for Lety. I have the feeling that if she married Aldo they would never have sex - he'd always chase her around the house, but she'd always have a headache.

GP, I suspect you'll like tomorrow's Aurora scene better.

Original Recipe Fernando was pretty rotten when he was jealous, especially when he pulverized Tomás. But new, improved Extra Crispy Fernando is much more under control. Of course, we were willing to forgive Original Recipe quite a bit... but as Irmita says, he's Don Fernando!

Lety never interrupted Fern and Marcia because she always felt that Marcia had dibbs. But she did interrupt Fern and Paty Manterola.

Why do they let aldo have good guy moments? I think it's because he's not a villain in the conventional sense. Overall he's not such a bad guy, but his obsession with Lety brings out the worst in him, or maybe makes him a worse person. He wasn't like this in Aca. And he wasn't bad when he first arrived at Conceptos. But he has definitely been spiraling downward. Fern's love for Lety made him a better person. Aldo's love made him a worse person. But in aspects of his life not involved with Lety, he's probably still a fairly decent guy.

Totally agree that Lety prefers to be a fea because it is safe. Long ago I mentioned that she hides behind her looks. Anything that goes wrong in her life is because she is fea. Anything that scares her can't be faced because she is fea. Aldo prefers that she is fea because he thinks he will never have to worry about her running off on him.

The Aurora bit has gone on too long especially when Lety went on that unnecessary date after saying Aurora was no more. Obviously she did it to punish Omar for his remarks about Aurora being his lover. Her lack of maturity show in her constant having to punish him for everything bad that happened to her since she discovered his part in the seduction scene.

I was surprised initially that Caro set up the Luigi joke on Omar but later figured it might be a way to get through to Omar that Aurora really wants no part of him. I'm certainly going to miss his little girly screams which always make me laugh.

Speaking of laughing I noticed that in that scene with Aldo and Tomas Aldo actually snorted when he laughed. I had to replay it a couple of times to be sure. Obviously being around Tomy Boy is rubbing off on him.

Loved the brother/sister scene with Fern and Marcia. When she said she loved him he looked a little worried until she explained. There was evidence of the caring that must have existed in their childhood. Also liked it when Omar said a marvelous woman had convinced him to sell his stuff to support a friend. Lety looked a tad surprised and then smug. She almost gave her Aurora game away a couple of times.

Sadly Lety hasn't learned anything. She is keeping secrets from her mother and more important she is sneaking around on Aldo with Omar as Aurora. Considering his reaction to the Fern conversation in the office I don't think he would be at all happy with her Aurora persona.

***I have the feeling that if she married Aldo they would never have sex - he'd always chase her around the house, but she'd always have a headache.***
GP,
TOO funny!!! And the part about the "naughty bits", had me ROFL!!!
You are 100% right. I bet if she did start sumpin'with Aldo, she would feel like she jumped into an ice cold creek. Instead of the steamy, silky pool she shared with Fern (in their dream).

Diann

***Original Recipe Fernando was pretty rotten when he was jealous, especially when he pulverized Tomás. But new, improved Extra Crispy Fernando is much more under control. ***
Paula,
But Fern exhibited his anger towards the people that made him jealous. ie Tomas. He was never scary to Lety like we saw Alpo being scary today.
Besides, I thought the pulverizing of Tomas made Fern MORE sexy to me. Hey, a man like that fighting over me? Go Babyyyyy.....
Diann

GP - "I just wonder why we're willing to forgive him that, but we're so hard on Aldo for expressing a little bit of his jealousy"

My reasons:

1. When we first met Aldo, he seemed to be above such things. (Granted, it's easy to be above it all when you're living on the beach and not in a difficult relationship.) We can't help but crow now that his halo is slipping. On the other hand, we had faith that Fernando was still learning to become a better person.

2. Fernando had a lot of difficulty expressing his love for Lety. By telenovela standards, a display of jealousy is proof of love. Meanwhile, since Aldo won't shut up about how much he loves Lety, the jealousy seems superfluous in terms of showing love.

3. Fernando's reaction reflected more pain, fear, and insecurity about someone he wants and can't have, while while Aldo seemed more possessive over someone that he actually has. (This may be entirely subjective on my part.) We tend to have more sympathy for those who seem more vulnerable.

Paula, what were we supposed to notice in #262?

Aside from what others have already mentioned, I noticed that Fernando bowed and scraped like Lety used to as he went into the batcave. And Lety did something Fernando-like, but I don't remember now what it was.

Although Lety has made her choice Julie, I don't think Aldo truly feels like he has her, which is why he's expressing jealousy. He knows that she still loves Fern and he hopes to make her forget that love, but I don't think he can truly feel like Lety is something he truly "has" until Fern is no longer in her life.

I'm glad Fern has changed his ways, but he was a pretty rotten to Lety in the past. I just think that we have to give Aldo a little slack for his few moments of being human. I think you're right they painted him as the perfect guy and now that he's got the girl he's turning into who he really is, but who he really is still hasn't been as bad as Fern was to Lety when she first started sleeping with Fern (maybe this is subjective on my part!)

Diann - the cap that I specifically mention #137 - Fern was very scary towards Lety. He was a pretty unstable guy up until two or three weeks ago and I think if not for his changes he could have been very abusive towards Lety if he hadn't been kept in check.

LOL - thanks Diann - honestly that's what I see when Aldo and Lety are together, though lately she has been a whole lot more affectionate towards Aldo.

One thing that I've noticed is Aldo's friendship with Tomas. That's something I've always liked about him vs. Fern. I think that he has absolutely no reason to fake being friends with Tomas now that he's 'got' Lety, but he's still friends with him vs. Fern who really still doesn't try all that hard. I think the problem I have with Fern is that if he and Lety get together his friends and family wouldn't really accept her...Aldo is more accepted and although everyone here thinks it's because of his sucking up, I just think he's not nearly as caught up in the whole Mexican class system like Fern seemed to be before he made his changes. All of Aldo's friends and family (granted we've only seen a few) have loved Lety because she's someone that Aldo seems to love vs Fern's people have all pretty much bad mouthed and tormented her.

After her little chat with Fernando, Aldo comes in and Lety is much stronger around him. She stands up straighter. She doesn’t yield to baby talk. He presses her and she doesn’t buckle! Aldo talks about the beach and she says she needs to work. He’s jealous and she tells him to trust her. She doesn’t whimper! She loses most of the mannerisms I usually see in her, around Aldo. Being around Fernando makes her stronger.

Paula - maybe. I've noticed that she's stronger in general around Aldo so I don't think that it's just Fern that makes her stronger. My theory is that she's always been stronger with Aldo because she feels safest with him, but now needs to use this strength in all the other areas of her life. In fact it's in these scenes that I think she's using flirtation with Aldo to disarm the situation. I've mentioned these other examples before, but:

1) when Lety and Aldo are arguing after they discover Omar in the gorge in cap 232, she yells at him to stop pressuring her.

2) when he comes back and saves her job cap 254, she tells him that she thought he was manipulating the situation. She was strong here in her conversation with Aldo and I don't think she uses baby talk with him here and in fact she tells Fern that she wants to have this conversation alone with Aldo.

I assert that it's NOT Fern who makes her stronger. It's the strength she's always had inside herself...she just needs to tap into it.

Paula, loved the sequence in no. 7. this is the type of playful interaction that we don't get to see in YSBLF after the junta until during EcoModa and that is few and far between great scenes in between lots of silly stuff...
Re: your no. 11 scene... Did you all notice Fernando wanted to hug Lety first, but she headed for Aldo so Fer took his hands to his head to try to disguise his 'empty hand' dissappointment. Loved that scene, though... Fer was very much a part of it...

regarding the overlap Lety and Conceptos... yes, it could be interpreted that way, but Fernando knows that Lety leaning toward Aldo is very much weighted by Aldo's buying the debt and saving Conceptos... so Fernando now thinks he has no real hope with Lety but at least wants to take Conceptos out of the equation by getting it back to his family and then maybe he can compete for Lety on more equal terms... he might hope Lety still loves him and knows the first/only thing he can do is to help her take the 'debt' pressure off her decision...

it was so sweet for Fernando to tell Lety about her not even looking at him directly... as if she was ashamed or avoided the temptation... So we can add this to the differences...
the different photos
the different hugs
the different interactions (she is so much more comfortable with Fer)

and the main difference you all have discussed at length... Fer is there in support mode... Aldo is there in possessive/territorial mode.

what I noticed in the scene you mentioned is that when Fer ducked into his 'hole' both Fer and Lety did what their counterparts used to do when they were not switched... Fer rolled his chair to the door to listen in and Lety was at first startled frozen then was tattering her way to calm Aldo down very much the same way Fer used to do when Marcia walked in on them... Lety definitely had a total change in demeanor... even with her sweet talking Aldo (again, very much the same way Fer used to do with Marcia)

Marta, wasn't it fun watching that role reversal? I laughed aloud when Fer scooted up to the door to eavesdrop on Lety.

I love the little bows and "propios". They were irritating when Lety used to do them, but somehow they're cute on Fernando!

Sylvia,
And Fern falling out the chair! Priceless.
Diann

One thing I just thought of that I forgot to post earlier. I noticed that Fern and Lety still used the formal usted even when they were reunited for that short run. Why? They used it even when they were alone...will this ever change?

Random I know, but I just thought about it...I'll have to pay attention to what she and Aldo use with each other.

I think my 2nd fave scenes were Lety and Fern when he was bowing and saying con permiso, then running into his office.

***I've noticed that she's stronger in general around Aldo so I don't think that it's just Fern that makes her stronger. My theory is that she's always been stronger with Aldo because she feels safest with him,***
GP,
I disagree. She is more of her childlike Lety around Aldo. She may have seemed strong back in Aca, but that was because she was in fantasyland. All they did was have fun. Nothing serious or substantial. Now that they are in the real world, DF, she's back to being a papa's girl. This time the papa is Alpo.
And any "safenest" she feels is more of a dependency. She always tells him "I can't do this without you." "I'm glad you are here with me". With Fern, she thought for herself. Gosh, she was strong enough to bring down that junta! She didn't need anyone's help to orchestrate that debacle. She did it all on her own, from her own strength.
I hate how Alpo is always wanting her to runaway to the beach. His idea of when things get tough, run. Looks like he's done this his whole life. Didn't want to work with Dad, run. Wife cheated on him, run. Wants Lety, run to DF. Afraid Fern with get Lety, have her run away with him.

Lety's been strong with Aldo in DF & the other place (not Acapulco). I think that her reverting back isn't just because of Aldo. When I was saying she's strongest with him - I meant she uses strong words, she challenges him which she does.

I also think she brought down the junta because she was a woman scorned - I think that she's strong on her on - not because of Fern OR Aldo.

I also believe the reason why Alpo is friends with Tomas is because he is not threatened in any way with Tomas. To me, it seems as if he knows he can tell Tomas to do or say anything, and Tomas will jump. Another example of how Alpo is a manipulator. Alpo bullies people into doing what he wants if the person is stronger than him. Look how he handled Omar. That was mean, ugly bullying. To press an apology like that, in the privacy of his office, in the manner he did, was bullying.
Sure, Fern grabbed Omar and forced the apology in the vortex. But remember, Omar and Fern are BFFs from childhood. Alpo is a virtual acquaintance to Omar. An acquaintance Omar doesn't even like.

Oh,
one thing I didn't see mentioned was the interaction between Fern/Alpo about personal space.
I forget which cap it was, but in Lety's office Alpo was getting into Fern's face and Fern was telling him "personal space, personal space". It was so funny, because we have all thought the same thing, and no one on the show has said it to him, but our hero Fern said what we all have been thinking. Yeahhhhh Fernando!!!!
Diann

I thought that was funny too Diann. I think that could be one reason Aldo is friends with Tomas, but honestly he could have faked it for a while, but I think he genuinely likes Tomas and just tries to help him out when he gets a chance because let's be honest, Tommy's only other friend is Lety and that's sort of like the blind leading the blind. I still think as someone said earlier, Aldo's just a decent guy. I think Omar doesn't like him just because Fern doesn't like him. No other reason except he has to support his friend.

The fernando/Lety formal addressing each other and why Aldo is friends with Tomas so much easier than Fernando are sort of interrelated in my mind. Remember teh way Fernando/Lety and Fernando/Tomy relationships started...
Fernando was Lety's boss... this is why Lety has addressed him as Don Fernando from the get go. and once you are used to addressing someone formally it is not that easy to change the habit... will it continue? to answer that would be a spoiler.
Fernando/Tomy relationship started when Fernando had the understanding Tomy was competition for Lety and probably someone who was scheming to trick Lety into stealing the company from them, so of course the first impression Fernando would get from Tomy would not be as friendly, and Fernando has tried to revise that but it will take time and more interaction. (granted, Fernando could have spent more time/effort in that transition, but he's been sort of busy with Lety and his relationship with her since her return from Aca)
So Aldo started a relationship with Lety as one that quickly turned into friendship in a setting that provided all sorts of fun, fantasy and very little stress, a place which Lety saw as an oasis and refuge... so it was easy for Lety to see ALdo as a very danger-free risk-free friend. Same with Tomy and Aldo, nothing to lose and nothign to risk.
SO of course Aldo's relationships with both started much more positive and informal, no need to state patron/client roles or defense mechanisms in either case.

as far as lety feeling stonger/safer with Aldo... IMO it is partially due to Lety having been hurt so badly by Fernando... her level of trust is not there.
With Fernando, Lety is very afraid of giving in again only to be dropped into deep suffering and emotional destruction again. With Aldo she has only experienced peace, support, love(sort of)... so she feels safer with someone she has not been betrayed/ dissappointed by in the past vs the steep climb Fernando has in front of him to get Lety to trust him and feel safe with him.

If Fern and Lety have kids, the kids will address them as Don Papi and Licenciada Mami.

If Aldo and Lety have kids, the children will be highly motivated towards good behavior to avoid long-winded lectures.

LOL @ Julie.

Marta- what you say makes sense to me that these issues are all interrelated...it's all very complicated and quite interesting too.

loved Fernando peeking back out of his hole' to warn Aldo that if he did not make Lety happy Aldo would have to answer to him. sweet!!

Paula, remember our conversation here: http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/read-t.php?f=54&i=67999&t=67999#reply_67999 ?
now we see here that Fer has made himself the ideal 'client'... supporting Lety in basically everything, even protecting her relationship with Aldo ...
since he is no longer the Prez and thus no longer in a position to protect her, he is transforming into the ideal client, just like she was back then...

Absolutely, Marta! He's doing his best to become her perfect client. We'll see one spot later this week, where he supports her decision even though it seems illogical to him - the client supports his patron, punto!

I'd warn Fea newbies to be careful of the link Marta posted. It includes some major stuff that happens in the 270's, so we haven't seen those things yet.
