Llena de Amor #150 (Mex. 162-163) Wed 3/16/11 Call The Squad! Lots of Time Bombs Going Off Tonight

This was a real blockbuster of a Casserole tonight, readers. André struggles with the news that he's HIV positive and lashes out at everyone. Fedra, herself an equal opportunity lasher, tries to kill Chema, goes to Plan B ( Gerardo, the helicopter assassin) when Lorenzo fails; convinces the latter he's committed incest by dallying with Kristel (way to ruin the moment, Fedra!) ; while Netty, an equal opportunity eyelash flutterer is batting those orbs at both Emiliano and Chema. Delicia gets a beautiful new bridal gown but Axel barges in once more to see her, thereby angering the Telenovela Destiny Gods who promise disaster for any groom who sees the bride before the wedding. And Kristel comes up empty once again. Her fallback position as a model for a lipstick commercial tanks when she refuses to kiss HIV-positive André.

And oh yeah....Ilitia really is pregnant.

We began with some pre-audition canoodling. Lorenzo is hoping to lure Kristel back in the sack before she finds out he really has no status or clout at the agency any more. Things are looking good as the smooches get hot and heavy and Kristel wraps her shapely leg around his backside.

Our more innocent lovers, Axel and De, are lamenting the desecrated gown. Until De decides that even if she has to marry Axel in her servant's garb, the wedding is the thing. No no no rumbles Emiliano, peeking in the door. We're going to buy you the most beautiful wedding gown ever.

Enter Ms. WetBlanket to chastise Kristel and Lorenzo and to threaten to call security if he doesn't vamoose and pronto. Kristel wheedles Vicky and Jorrible to keep her on (after all, Vicky owes her something after that dumped at the altar fiasco) and Jorge pleads Kristel's case.

Mientras tanto, Brandon wants to station Oliver outside Mauricio's room given his recent oxygen deprivation and long list of enemies. Trouble is, when they enter the room it's empty. Mau-Mau has escaped once again. Parents, lock up your maidens 'cause Rapey Snake's on the loose once more.

Back at the mansion, Fedra is lining up a gynecologist bribe to provide proof that Ilitia is pregnant. Tú te pones guapo y yo me ponga guapa” (you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours) and the deal is set. But she can't resist a little ragging on Ilitia for failing to seduce her own husband. So our Top Model explains about the rape the day of the wedding. Fedra actually seems deeply sympathetic, while ferreting out just who knows and who doesn't (Ammunition for later? You betcha.)

And at the agency, André broods and bristles as Doris tries to help. Kristel bounds in, plops on his lap, ready to seduce another available guapo male when Jackie arrives to label him a HIV carrier. Kristel is off the lap and spraying hair lacquer as an anti-viral agent faster than you can say Complete Idiot. And we sense that we have a long and prolonged PSA coming up.

Lorenzo packs up his office gear, yells at his secretary who informs him she no longer works for him and slaps him a good one. We see other secretaries giggling in the background. I'm guessing this scene gets deleted.(Actually no!) But it was fun to see a subaltern strike back.

PSA in the agency dressing room. Jorge is okay with firing André (this happened to a student of mine who was HIV-positive because his employer didn't want to pay the health care costs he was sure would be needed.) Vicky insists on keeping him, pronouncing that “What kills is not the disease but the rejection.” (I think we need to give the disease a little bit of credit after all, but whatever...) “No way am I working with this guy,” snaps Kristel. “Then YOU can quit. André can work here as long as he likes.”

So back to our innocents. Axel and De are at Netty's house now planning the bestest boda evah. Netty's fluttering, Emiliano is rumbling delightedly and the gals are soon off to pick out a new dress.

Oh my. The wardrobe folks have outdone themselves. Fedra's in some kind of Foreign Intrigue Slut Outfit. Slouch hat, plunging neckline showing not only the top but also the underside of her breasts (How much lower can we go until we're completely nude? Dark coat and those ubiquitous tights. A Killing in the Woods outfit, complete with assault weapon (don't ask me what kind) in a gun bag (funda). She's got Lorenzo in her sights which gives him pause. But no, it's only to check the damn thing's working before she hands it over to him. To kill Chema. The reason? “He's the man who raped Ilitia,” announces our fibby Fedra.

More PSA. Doris comforts. André rejects. Jaqui gloats when Jorrible announces that no model from any agency will work with André because the word is out he's HIV-positive. Doris volunteers to be the model since she KNOWS that the virus can't be transmitted through a kiss.

More drama at the hospital clinic. Eman is tired of waiting. Wants to go to another place. No way. Ilitia's not putting up her feet in the stirrups and spreading her top model legs for some strange man. Only her very own lifelong gynecologist (bribed by Fedra) will do. A woman doctor then. And guess what!? A wonderful woman doctor has just had a cancellation. Picking a protesting Ilitia up in his arms, Eman hauls her off to the exam. Very macho. We're on pins and needles. So is Ilitia.

More information sharing. Gretel has come to Vicky's office to tell her the mysterious José Maria Seville is part of Fedra's past and may be Emanuel's father. What's more, he could prove who Fedra really is! They don't need her father Luis Felipe's papers.

Back to Fedra's fun and games. Chema has arrived in the piney woods and is suspicious about the remote meeting place. Fedra chides him for always being so suspicious and paranoid (Genio y figura hasta la sepultura) and wildly flaps her Foreign Intrigue hat around as a signal for Lorenzo to shoot. Which he would gladly do, but faithful Bernardo tackles him first.

Jorge, chewing gum...yuck...is filming the long-lasting lipstick commercial with Doris and André dutifully smooching. Kristel, “en super buena onda” is pointing out it will be a big failure. Some third rate make-up artist and an HIV-positive model! D'ya think your clients will like learning that's who you did the ad with!?

The only one more disgusting at this point is André himself who dismisses Doris as an amateur, not worthy of his shabby talent. His life is over if he has to film with the likes of her. Doris calls him an oxygen-waster and boy is she right! I fail to see this guy's charm, bod or no bod.

Dreadful foreshadowing at the boarding house. Delicia descends the stairs in a lovely gown. Enraptured sighs by Netty and Emiliano. More sighs from Axel who's barged in and can't take his eyes off his bride-to-be. Netty tries to shield her while Emiliano and Axel chuckle about these silly female superstitions. You just KNOW Disaster is headed down the pike on this one.

And Disaster has already hit in the hospital clinic. Instant results. Ilitia nervous. Emanuel anxious. Reads the printout. He's stunned. She's stunned. "What!?" she shrieks in English. Tears of joy. And a little anxious eye-rolling. Did Brandon and I really use protection? All the time? Baaabeee, we're having a niño! Hugs. And more eye-rolling. And tears.

Some eye-rolling on my part too. Hope they cut this next scene out. Doris is still trying to comfort André and makes the mistake of saying she knows just how he feels. No she doesn't! She's just a hack makeup artist for corpses. She doesn't even belong in an agency with the likes of him and his crew. She begs him to keep working and start treatment. He snarls that he's not about to stick around and let people watch him fade bit by bit. He's a man who lives by his image!

Back to some other shallow people. Lorenzo Menso (Stoopid Lorenzo. Fedra's nickname) wants to know who Chema is really. Clearly he's not Ilitia's rapist. Fedra stalls.

And Kristel wails. Nereida brings her tea and the offer to be her Best Best Forever now that Ilitia has decamped. No way does Kristel wants the friendship of a “vil chirussa” (wretched maid) like her. But wah wah wah, she has nothing! No career. No Lorenzo. No best friend from birth. And now Ilitia's pregnant while she'll never have kids. This is “zero cool”. But wait. It gets better. Her cellphone rings and it's Mauricio with the news he's out of the hospital and ready to wreak vengeance on her.

Brief (thank God!) scene between Emanuel and Vicky. He tells her Ilitia is really pregnant. She tells him André needs his support. No, she can't say why. That's André's tale to tell.

But so.....expecting a baby! Boy or girl? Oh well. Too soon to decide but you'll be a marvelous daddy. Yes, but I won't give you up, insists Eman. “A marvelous dad is one who stays by his wife and child” sighs Vicky. And keeps the family together. We're over. I must forget you. (How many times have we heard that one?)

Back at the mansion, Fedra is incensed to find Chema lurking around the grounds. Heraus! * Chema still wants an explanation for the ambush in the woods. Was Juana Felipa Perez hoping to become his widow? Lorenzo, crouching in the bushes, overhears and gloats that he's got more dirt on Fedra. And Bernardo overhears our innocents planning their wedding and gloats that he can deep-six their happy dreams. Another Oh my, Oh dear, Oh crap moments for our young folks.

And on we go to the next chapter in our casserole. Fedra smirks to Chema that finally “se caer el veinte” (you finally figured out) Yes, she wants him out of the picture. He reminds her that when he found her she was selling her body for scraps of garbage and he turned her from a starving animal into a Woman. Right but now she's turned HERSELF into a Society Woman, thank you very much, so Heraus! with you. (I love how Fedra, who hardly copes with the Spanish language, throws in Italian and German whenever she feels like it.)

Ilitia visits Mom with the proof that she's pregnant and rubs a little salt in the wound concerning Muñeca's doubts about her veracity. Muñeca returns the favor by asking her if she's SURE nothing happened with Brandon in Acapulco.

And our sweet innocents De and Axel bicker over how many kids they're going to have. She says two. He says five. She has a presentiment something BAD is going to happen. So do we. And not with family planning.

So back to our Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Lorenzo gloats over the knowledge that Fedra was a hooker. She reminds him he was a kept man by Muñeca for many years....so what's the diff? He proposes a deal. Nope. Not money. He wants another opportunity at Kristel. He's willing to fight the whole world for her precious love and Fedra's going to hand her over to him on a silver platter.

Or is she?

Doris consoles Vicky when she learns Ilitia really is pregnant. Emanual moans about his mistakes with André until finally realizing his friend has a worse problem that he does. He echoes the sentiment that André needs to get medical help and also realize he can have long full life with proper treatment. André, still a jerk, just a jerk with a serious disease, blows him off and says he doesn't want his pity.

Back to our scoundrels. They are now having a marvelous bitch session over who loved whom more. Love!? No way. I helped you relax. I relieved the boredom of Emiliano. You NEVER loved me. If you had, you would have given me money, no questions asked, when I begged you, chuckles Lorenzo. Bernardo's more important to you than I am.

Fedra swears by “lo más sagrado”, whatever that may be, that she loved him just as much as she hated him. In Her Way. But yes, more than any other man I have ever cared for. But your fling with Kristel is an aberration. Think back to when we became lovers. Right after I returned from my honeymoon with Emiliano. OVER TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. Did you think there were never any consequences to our dalliances? she intones. For the good of OUR DAUGHTER, you have to give up this sick relationship.

Lorenzo, stunned and nauseated, accuses her of lying. Look in my eyes, she commands. You can't touch her. You can't even look at her! She's your daughter.

Why now!? he wails. I tried to stop you before, she sniffs. Lorenzo wants proof. Fine. You have all my secrets in your hands. And if you want proof, sure. Get DNA testing. But don't let Kristel know. He agrees.

Ugh. Back to Vicky and Jorge. Same restaurant. But with dessert. He's chirping that now that Muñeca has asked him to manage her stock in the agency, he's sold his own agency in Spain. And will invest the profits in Fedra's planned holiday retreat. Cool huh? Just like Vicky suggested. I thought it was your idea, murmurs our boring heroine. Well whatever. I now own 30 percent and we'll get your dad's inheritance for you back. Snore. Dreary followup. She shares the news about Ilitia's pregnancy. He pretends to be sad. She claims she'll tear Emanual out of her heart. He pretends to believe her.

More fun with Fedra. Gawd she's a clever scoundrel. Ilitia's waving the positive pregnancy test in her face. Eman shoots real bullets alright. One tumble in the hay and she's pregnant. Fedra's not so sure it isn't a little cop offspring and if that Brandon shows up at the house....well, there'll be trouble. Cappici? More eye-rolling worries by Top Model. Did we use one every time? Did it slip? Did it break? Quick prayers to Diosito.. (Hardly the person to consult, but still....) Fedra grabs Ilitia's hairbrush and exits. DNA test problem solved!

Downstairs, grandfather Lorenzo is also chatting with God. Please Dios, don't let Kristel be my daughter. Fedra arrives with a hairbrush full of DNA samples and happily sends Lorenzo off to the lab, knowing he'll get a match. But promise me you'll always protect Kristel from knowing the dreadful truth, she fake pleads. And he agrees. Lorenzo Menso indeed!

Netty, in a red dress that leaves little to the imagination, is singing her heart out in La Buena Vida, while Chema respectfully listens. And at La Mala Noche (please take note of heavy-handed symbolism) Fedra, somewhat more covered up....in black.... is doing her usual leg swings and butt pats while the helicopter killer looks on with lustful delight. In case we still don't get it, Chema notes that Netty sings like an “angel”. Okay. Point taken.

Chema invites himself over to Emanual's table, says he wants to take him up on his job offer (Fidel agrees that they need an "encargado" at the new restaurant) and also requests that Eman “tutear” him, even though he's OLD ENOUGH TO BE HIS FATHER. (Okay, did you get that?) Chema believes his life is starting over. Emanuel moans that he feels like his is ending. He's going to be a father. But he doesn't love his wife. Love for a woman begins and ends, opines the Capitán. But the love for a child is forever. And Chema would give anything not to have lost the child he was expecting with a woman long long ago. And who would that woman be? Because you knew MY mother many years ago, right, queries Emanuel.

Meanwhile, Mommy Dearest is working out another Chema assassination deal with Helicopter Boy. If you get this “stone out of my shoe” you'll be well compensated, promises Fedra. But if you don't manage to kill him dead, I'll pursue you to the very gates of Hell.

Emanuel is still gently grilling Chema. He knows so little about his mother. What was there between you? Well, the mother of my child was very different from your mother, hedges Chema. But you dig my mom, right? Well.....she is very pretty. But Destiny decreed that Fedra was not for me. And really, let's talk about the present, not the past. The past is very dark. And there are some rooms in the past that are better left alone. In fact, better yet, let's toast to the future, conclude José Maria.

That works for Emanuel. “Me caes bien” (I like you) and he thinks he and Chema can be good friends. And there we end. Another two-for-one casserole. Whew. What a mouthful.

Previews:
Eman tells Vicky they're meant to be together no matter what and plants a big kiss on her.
Fedra finds Vicky stress eating in the kitchen. Proof positive she's really just a thinner Marianela. Puts a knife to her throat and demands that she confess.

Vocabulary:
*heraus! = out! be gone!

encargado = manager
volver al redil = come back into the fold
cappici = Italian? for unnerstan', ya get it?
la vida es una rueda de fortuna = Life is a wheel of fortune (Lorenzo to Fedra)
amarrado a la pata de su cama = tied to the foot of her bed (Doris, saying what Ilitia wants for Eman)
la funda= dustjacket, sleeve, pillowcase, or cover (for a weapon)
te ves guapo en close-up = Fedra, to Lorenzo, as she gets him in her gun sights

Dicho of the Day
Fedra said it. Genio y figura hasta la sepultura. A leopard can't change his spots. Or simply, people never change.

Great recap Judy! Great vocab too.

I usually really enjoy seeing these shows in HD. But tonight high definition was really punishing us! Aaaargh - all those flashes of Fedra's gross white pasty cleavage larger than life. I was having a hard time keeping my dinner down!

Audrey

Judy, Your cassorole was a wonderful feast!!!
Great pictures, great recap, and I always enjoy the vocab. I think I missed some stuff with Andre so that whole story line had me a bit confused. Fedra is very resourseful.
Thanks again for the grat recap.

Yes, Fedra is indeed resourceful! (like Pata said)

That whole bit of carrying the gun out to the woods for Lorenzo to use was pretty hilarious.

Love how Bernardo, otherwise despicable and totally without scruples and slavishly devoted to Fedra, keeps preventing Fedra from hurting "his captain".

Audrey

Thanks for the recap Judy. I know we keep lamenting the casserole but Uni is doing us such a disservice! It's great the recappers keep us in the know.

ITA Audrey regarding Bernie. He's horrible but watching him truly conflicted and thwarting Fedra is great.

I'm bummed about the Dee/Axel situation. I hope the foreshadowing is only temporary as I would be crushed it those cuties don't get together :(

Wowee, Judy I love a good meal and your casserole more than satisfied! These double episodes are a bit time-consuming but they sure keep things moving along.

Pata, you are so right. Fedra is incredibly resourceful. She always seems to be one step ahead of everyone else. I might even be a little sad when she gets her just desserts at the end. She's truly a force of nature. What she's doing to Lorenzo is just awful, however since he deserves that and worse I fully support Fedra in this one.

Audrey, I don't have HD (boo hoo!!!) but I thought Fedra looked kinda hot in a skanky, earthy sort of way. Judy's casserole theme must have inspired me because I took a break from the show to whip up some jambalaya and found myself chanting "Bye baby bunting, slutty's gone a hunting" while I was stirring the pot. Guess I appreciate when people dress for the occasion, heh.

Lordy I am bummed out that the rapey snake escaped. Will Kristel be smart enough to call the cops or at least tell mom?

ITA with Audrey and Karen, I like the conflicted Bernardo much more than the lap dog Bernardo.

Terrific recap Judy! Thanks for the double duty and great vocabulary. How in the heck did you figure out Heraus?

Judy, loved your jammed-packed, detail laden recap. Your pictures continue to be amazing and of course, the vocabulary and dicho were wonderful. Thank you for relating everything we missed and for all the explanations - I was totally lost as to what the heck was going on with Andre.

Your equal opportunity lines were my favorite: "lasher" and "eyelash flutterer". I thoroughly enjoyed Netty's "batting those orbs". I thought her singing was very good. Of course, Laura Flores can't do much wrong in my eyes.

The faux incest plot may elevate Fedra to one of the most ingenious villains ever. Loathe her but can't help but salute her creativity. As horrible as her plans are - I agree with you Sylvia - Lorenzo is totally deserving.

I like the way the friendship between Chema and Eman is developing and hope Chema lives long enough for a father/son reconciliation.

Karen, let's hope any nefarious plans for Dee and Axel are derailed quickly.

Mau is on the loose again - slithering around. Can our dear policemen possibly get any more inept? :)

Kristel seems (finally) to be terrified about Mauricio. As she should. Be afraid Kristel. Be very afraid.

Thanks again for all of your hard work Judy. This was excellent.

Diana

As always, just fantastic Judy! Crazy meeting day, but just had to take an early morning coffee break and read your review.

Quite a lot of intrigues last night. I have to agree about Andre. If the writers are trying to eventually pair him up with Doris, they sure aren't giving him any sort of endearingness to win viewerville over. She's one of the sweeter characters. Learning he is HIV is definitely hertbreaking for him, but lashing out to her in such a cruel manner - too much.

As for Axel and Delicia, at this point all I can suggest is we start speculating who and how they will be pulled apart by. We KNOW it will happen before the final happy-ever-after.

Netty - Laura - yo!That dress! She still rocks it. The young 'uns could take a lesson in howe to look hot and classic at the same time.

Loved the Chema/Eman interaction. Hope they give these two a chance to get close and at least friends. I have a bad sense of karma for them that Chema will either kick the bucket in taking down Fedra, or his heart will give out just as Eman discovers he's his real father. Bummer...

Back to calls and meetings. Ick!

Ah Fedra. So many lives to destroy, so little time. Watch your back Bernardo, you don't have an immunity idol.

Great recap, Judy. You guys are really helping my understanding by supplementing the deleted scenes. I only watched the Univision version last night so the added details are really appreciated.

I thought TN history was being made when Fedra told Lorenzo that Kristel is his daughter. I love the way that Fedra stacked the deck by providing Lo with hair from Ilitia's brush.

I also like the way that Andre has not been magically transformed into a sympathetic character by having HIV. He was a jerk and is a jerk. Of course, being a jerk doesn't equal being evil so I suspect we'll all like him much better before it's all over. Can't say the same for Jorge. I dislike him more and more with each episode.

Netty... Wow!

Fedra... she's one of those women who start looking really good around closing time. Sylvia puts it well:

"I thought Fedra looked kinda hot in a skanky, earthy sort of way."

Judy, Julia, Maggie, and Audrey, you guys have really set the bar high for handling these compressed episodes... Thanks... I think.

Carlos

Judy-

You really have set a high bar with this recap. Wonderful as always, even with two whole episodes to recap.

Count me in as one of those who enjoyed Fedra's slutty hunting outfit. Her girls appear to be natural, so I admire the actresses willingness to show them off. I also loved her fake out of Low over Kristel and the hairbrush switch. Could it still be possible that Kristel may be his? Just as Fedra says, how can they be sure?

Netty was also a knock out last night, from the little they showed us on Uni. It looks like folks got to see more of her and her singing in the uncut version. I am happy that we were spared another Reina dance, however. :)

Good morning everybody. Fun to read your comments and of course it's always exciting to see a new name pop up. Welcome, Belinda, and we hope you'll comment often.

@Audrey...so Fedra's decolleté was giving you the heaves last night! Actually, I got a big kick out of her being "dressed to kill". Lent a playful angle to her murderous attempts. Basically, she is always "on stage".

Hi Pata. If you only saw Univision's verson, the André storyline is sketchy and confusing.
I hope we won't have to listen to any more ugly put-downs of Doris though. Major ugh moment.

@Karen...Watching Bernardo conflicted IS fun...and the conflict does redeem him a bit. We understand that he is Loyal and his first loyalty is to his Capitán, as it should be. Fedra has enjoyed jerking him around all these years as she's well aware of his romantic fixation on her. But I was heartsick to see, in the uncut version, that he knew about our lovebirds' wedding plans. I'm sure Fedra is not going to let that go forward.

@Sylvia...I can just picture you stirring the jambalayla and singing a frisky ditty! Fun stuff. The only reason I could figure out the "Heraus" that Fedra kept shouting (it sounding like 'Raus!) was because I lived and worked in Vienna for a year.

And in some ways it makes sense that she would pick up phrases in foreign languages if she were a port prostitute. Sailors of all nationalities bedded her no doubt and she, in her clever resourceful way, picked up some lingo.

@Diana...good morning amiga. It IS a bit of a load to watch two episodes and try and include everything relevant but shoulder to the grindstone and all that.

Like you, I'm rather entranced with Fedra's clever handling of Lorenzo. Every time he thinks he has her beaten, she upends him again. The incest ploy is pure genius. I don't for a moment believe Kristel is really his daughter, but have to applaud Fedra for playing that appalling card. She's a force to be reckoned with.

@Daisynjay...Since this is a morality play, the writers are first of all reminding us that André is a shallow snob, basically disrespectful of ALL women (he noted that he often went to bed with girls without even first asking their name!) but especially disrespectful of anyone "not of his class". So the impact of being HIV-positive and being shunned by his equally shallow friends, will teach him to value true love and true nobility, regardless of income or barrio. But for now looks like he has a long way to go.

@Belinda...so, you're foreseeing bad things for Bernardo, are you? Well, clearly if Fedra can try to destroy the Love of her Life Chema, I guess she wouldn't hesitate to take down Bernardo, once he's no longer of use to her. She is an immensely practical woman. And shrewd.

@Carlos...amigo, don't envy you your job. It IS time consuming to synthesize two separate episodes. And you don't have to, you know. I was cussing up a storm yesterday taking notes and pulling screen shots from the internet. And it's NCAA time now!

Totally agree with you that Jorge is a dreadful sneaky little worm. And I hate his sibilant Spanish accent. And his little winks. Sssssssnake in the grass is he.

@Vivi...Like you, I am a total fan of the Fedra actress now, right down to her prominently displayed "girls". Yes, I'm sure they're natural because gravity is doing its relentless work in that region, but God love 'er, she's still flauntin' em. And it's working for her.

I can't remember if it was in the Univision version or not, but there was a wonderful moment when Chema was orating on values and integrity and she's just rolling her eyes like Borrrrring. Don't sermonize me boy!

She is a strangely lovable villain.
For now anyway.

But I DON'T want her sabotaging Axel and sweet Delicia. And I fear that she will.

Loved the recap casserole dish Judy and thanks for adding the scenes Uni cut out. I too loved seeing Bernando conflicted between his loyalty to Chema and Fedra. I love complex characters.

Speaking of which, I too am a fan of Fedra. She is very resourceful. I thought her grabbing the hair from Ilitia's hairbrush was brilliant with her faux incest plan. Even though she may be the antagonist, I never get tired of watching her and she steals every scene she's in. Our weepy, boring, protagonist should take note.

Definitely major foreshadowing for Axel and Delicia. I hope the wedding does goes forth without a hitch.

I agree with your whole take on André's eventual learning the true value of love and friends with his illness won't be a instant transformation Judy. He's a jerk and Doris deserves better.

@Pirate Babe...yes, Doris deserves better. Waaay better. But alas, André is the Love of her Life, the one Destiny has picked for her and in this Romantic structure, it will ever be thus. He's damaged goods physically, but hopefully will be much improved character-wise by novela's end.

Glad you're enjoying Fedra as much as the rest of us. She DOES still every scene. She even overpowered Ilitia in their scene together.

@Carlos...still cracking up about your view of Fedra as the sort of woman "who looks good at closing time". If Mike were still reading and commenting, he would have lighted on that comment and you two would have been off and running. Miss your mutual masculine banter, though you're holding up your solo end very nicely.

Judy, a most enjoyable and informative recap all through. I especially enjoyed this bit: "Kristel is off the lap and spraying hair lacquer as an anti-viral agent faster than you can say Complete Idiot. And we sense that we have a long and prolonged PSA coming up."

Uni's cut made the whole Andre/advertisement storyline so confusing. Thanks for filling in how that shook out. Andre is an even bigger jerk than ever, heaping the most abuse on the people who least deserve it. I wouldn't have expected Jorge to react the way he did. He's a jerk in his own way, but I thought he was just greedy and scheming. He seemed like enough of a well-informed man of the world not to get freaked out by HIV.

Delicia looked so beautiful in her wedding gown. I'm hoping maybe this will be Emiliano's big chance to finally defend one of his kids and he will thwart Fedra's and Bernardo's plans. Probably too much to hope for, but I don't want EVERYONE's happiness put off until the very end.

I wonder if it will turn out that Ilitia is not Lowrenzo's biodaughter after all?

Judy, great recap, thanks.

Yes, Fedra is stealing the show. I loved the DNA and hairbrush idea but it could turn out that Itilia is not Low's child. That would turn Fedra's plans upside down.

I think the advances showed a wedding and Fedra showing some photos and everyone shocked. It was so fast, I wasn't sure about who's wedding she was sabotaging but the bride did have dark hair.

Rosemary

JudyB,
Thanks for the warm welcome, but it's not the first. I was formerly known as PhillyLady.Love all the recappers and commentors as well as the characters. How many times has Mau been beaten up and still no worse for wear? How many times have the Keystone Kops failed at catching and/or keeping anybody for more than a New York minute? Tejeda should have watched Leonardo on LVO.No matter how incredible this TN is, I'm full of love for it.

Judy. I'm so glad that you put in the "Heraus". I could not for the life of me figure that one out, although I did guess it was German.

Lived and worked in Vienna, eh? Wow! Must have been nice! I hope to visit one day.

Audrey

Wow how exciting Philly Lady...I love the Belinda moniker. Hope it's your real name. I like it. And Mauricio DOES seem to have the ability to pop back fully formed and unfazed just like a cartoon character. I don't worry about Kristel's fate but I tremble to think of any damage being done to Axel and the tender Delicia.

@Rosemary...what a wonderfully devious mind you have. It never would have crossed my mind that Ilitia would NOT be Low's daughter. Yikes. Were you ever a spy?

@Julia...I see you have the same devious cast. It WOULD be funny. But since Low did a DNA test for Christian, maybe he did one for Ilitia as well. As for Jorrible being all too ready to fire André, maybe the writers are loading him with defects, just in case there's anybody still thinking he's a Good Guy. Clearly, he is not. Although not an out and out Bad Guy either. Just a guy looking our for his own interests, as long as it doesn't involve killing anyone. (I hope!)

@Audrey...I'm sure there are plenty of German words I wouldn't have recognized. Just my luck it was an easy one. I'd had a couple of years of German before landing in Vienna so my companions always counted on me to help them order in restaurants. With Very Mixed Results. One time we decided to order Rahm...from the dessert list. And got a dish of whipped cream. Period.

I did find that-- in shops-- if I started a sentence and then would hesitate, the local would helpfully rush in and finish it for me. That way I managed to shop for clothes and food without too many problems. But otherwise, I was with Americans all day, and as roommates besides. And no TV and no telenovelas in German to help the language accretion!

Judy, this was wonderful, lots of good lines and vocab too! I watched only the version on TV and ended up very confused, so thank goodness you did both episodes. I had an idea they’d cut Netty’s song, and was sorry not to get to hear the whole thing. Of course we’ve heard her sing in other novelas, so it’s not the first time, but her voice is lovely and it would’ve been nice to hear again.

I loved the scene with Lo and Fedra re-hashing their romance, and admitting they loved each other at one time. During the first months of this show, I wasn’t much of a fan of the Lorenzo actor, but now I’m an ardent one. He’s terrific with Fedra, mixing lust, irony and threat.

When I lived in Munich, I heard them use ‘raus instead of heraus, I guess like we’d say “git!” I was amazed they spelled in correctly in the captions.

There was a Muy Pronto for “Teresa” last night. I looked it up and it looks like it’s another serious novela. It’s probably our replacement show. Drat. I’m not sure that I’m up for months of gloom. Llena has spoiled me! Also, Sebastian Rulli is kind of a yawn.

Hi Maggie. I forgot you lived in Munich for a year. And yes, 'Raus is how you hear it. Of course the Viennese accent was so different from the German we learned in school.... aside from the slang and the shortening of certain words. Trudge trudge trudge when learning a language.

One of our funniest moments came when a colleague was shopping for a VW Bug in "a NICE shade of green". The salesman solemnly told her that green was NOT a nice color. Evidently the police cars in Vienna were green so now way could that be considered an attractive shade.

On the Eva Luna line they are speculating that we might get the comedy Una Familia Con Suerte and the 8 pm slot would go to Teresa.

Also, I believe Rosemary said a friend in the know told her Univsion has a new program director so that's why our show is being hacked and shortened, while the Eva show is being drawn out and annoying the heck out of their viewers.

But this could all be speculation and horse puckey....kind of like what goes on in telenovelas daily!

Hmm… interesting about the new shows. The Teresa ad came on the first time last night, but the Familia ad has been on for at least a couple of weeks. When does Eva Luna end?

Actually, I was in Munich for 3 years (and earlier I’d spent a year in Goettingen, a charming university town about an hour’s trip from Hannover) and I had the same problem with the regional accent. Whooeee! What a learning curve when I first got there…

Ah well, you must be fully fluent in German then. Alas, not much call for it in California...or Ohio for that matter. I can't remember what you were doing...teaching? As I recall, you're in the education field.

I would have gotten a lot better in Deutsch if I'd been dating a local. Unfortunately that didn't happen until towards the end of my stay there. And after that, I was off to Paris. So sad. Not!

Judy - I did my junior abroad in Goettingen, then later went to Munich, worked and went to the translators’ institute, then got a job as a technical translator. I translated into English, though, not into German, thank goodness. I would call my German at that time more “fluid” than “fluent.” I could have a conversation at a normal speed, but it wasn’t error-free!

Heck Maggie, I can't even have a conversation in English error-free! But I know what you mean. The nice thing about speaking German though is the pacing is slower. The speed at which the French and Spanish speak is so much faster. I believe it takes much longer for us plodding Anglo-Saxons to even approximate the rhythm of Latino languages. But catching the beat of German is relatively easy.

It's those durned case endings! Tripped me up all the time.

Well, I noticed the Austrians got around that by making everything sound the same. Instead of making a clear difference between eine, einem etc., they just smeared everything into an “uh” sound. Doubt if the everyday guy was any clearer on the dative and the accusative than we hapless foreigners were.

You are making me envious with your living overseas talk. It's hard for me to imagine having a job in a place where I don't speak the language. Hats off to you both for learning and getting by fine. My dream is to emigrate to Australia. I'm thinking that with enough time, I could learn to speak Australian.

Speaking of speaking...or writing of speaking...I think it's funny how the other characters are starting to pick up Kristel's fresa-talk. Just last night, Lowrenzo reacted to her with "WHAT?!" said in total fresa tone, and then Nereida offering to be "best-best forever." SO entertaining.

Learn to speak Australian - LOL! Oy mait - it's not so bad!
