New telenovela Teresa: cast of characters.
Mariano - Aarón Díaz: Handsome, noble, sensitive, generous, a hard worker; jealous and proud. He drives a taxi to support himself, which embarrasses Teresa. He was raised poor but with much affection; he soon learned he wouldn't get what he wanted unless he worked for it. He abandoned his study of medicine to become a driver when his mother became ill. Afterwords, he resumed his career in order to be able to marry Teresa, but he realized that being professional, hard-working and honorable would not be enough to keep her.
Teresa - Angelique Boyer: Sexy, intelligent, self-confident, tenacious, direct, but too vain, proud, ambitious, calculating and hurtful. She is very aware that men are drawn to her and uses it. She has good taste and decides to study not just to get ahead academically but to be able to rub elbows with people of the world. She's convinced she was born in the wrong place because her origin is humble - her father is a mechanic and her mother washes clothes. She blames all her problems on poverty, without realizing that she is so ambitious nothing will ever satisfy her.
Arturo - Sebastián Rulli: Attractive, intelligent, cultivated, distinguished lawyer and professor. Some of his students fear him, all except Teresa who always has an intelligent response to his questions. When he was very young his parents were assassinated; investigations suggested that his father was involved in fraud. Instantly people turned their backs on him, even his fiancee. For fear of being deceived and suffering again he decided not to get personal with any woman.
Aurora - Ana Brenda Contreras: Pretty, sweet, refined, and with good taste, generous, of good sentiment, nevertheless she lacks fortitude. She is somewhat ingenuous and believes Teresa is really her friend. She falls in love with Mariano but discovering he loves her friend, she steps aside. Incapable of telling him her interests lie elsewhere, she studies medicine to please her father.
Luisa - Fernanda Castillo: Romantic, dreamy, timid, rather than exhulting in her beauty it sees she wants to hide it and not attract attention. She loves her brother and sees him as a father. Learned to take care of the house and responsibities she shouldn't have to shoulder. Teresa helps her grow confident in herself and improves her self-esteem by helping her dress better and behave differently.
Refugio - Silvia Mariscal: A good, moral man, conservative, self-effacing, humble, uneducated but no fool. He loves his two daughters, but he feels closer to Rosita than to Teresa. He always fights with Armando for the marked preference he has for Teresa. Refugio tries to deny that Teresa has taken the wrong road.
Armando - Juan Carlos Colombo: Uneducated but a good man, a mechanic with no grand aspirations, but seeing that his daughter does have them, he decides to help her. He loves his wife and adores Teresa because she was his first daughter after they'd tried to get pregnant for a long time - also because she's pretty, healthy and strong, while Rosita is weak and timid/depressed.
Juana - Cynthia Klitbo: A seamstress by trade, a widow who is congenial, happy and comical, always helping the neighbors. She never was able to have children and her husband died, leaving her a pension on which she can live decently. She's the "rich one" in the neighborhood. She always wanted a daughter and has sort of adopted Teresa, tolerating and aiding her in all her caprices.
Esperanza - Fabiola Campomanes: Pretty, sweet and helpful, but has low self esteem. It was hard but she managed to pay for her schooling as a nurse, but never has practiced her profession. She lets everybody think she's working in a hospital as a nurse to explain the money she has - which really comes from her lover Rubén.
Héctor - Oscar Bonfiglio: Serious, paternal, strict, a distinguished doctor, talented and affectionate. Born to a middle class family, with his work he's made a lot of money. Despite being a millionaire he's never stopped working for public institutions and helping the poor.
Rubén - Manuel Landeta: Audacious, wealthy, a hypocrite with double standards. Married to Mayra for 20 years, a rich submissive woman whom he can manipulate to his own ends. While he gives people to believe he is a decent lawyer, a good husband and father, in reality he cheats on his wife. But when he meets Esperanza, he thinks it will be easy to have a fling with her; in time he understands he wants her too much and cannot leave her.
Aída - Margarita Magaña: She's pretty but short, which has her almost traumatised. She wears designer clothes and is jealous and arrogant. She's rich, spoiled, and superficial, everything has been handed to her on a silver platter. she lives with her parents and thinks they have an ideal marriage. She wants Paulo for her boyfriend because he's the best partido? at the school. She envys Teresa for being prettier and smarter.
Paulo - Alejandro Nones: Handsome, rich, loves football and plays well. He loves Teresa but not enough to keep her when he finds out she's poor. He has a weak character and is controlled by his mother, to the point of getting engaged to Aída just to bother Teresa.
Ramón - Juan Sahagún: Mariano's father - simple, honorable, centered, humble, a hard worker with good values, defender of women, he detests machismo. He dreams of seing his son, his greatest pride, becoming a doctor - he's sure it will happen. The neighborhood feels like a family due to the attentions of Refugio and Juana.
El Johnny - Luis Fernando Peña: The second son of Nachita the caretaker; he works as mechanic's assistant in Armando's shop. He's serious, responsible, a hard worker. Like Esperanza, he's had to work since childhood to help with expenses. He loves Fabi, the daughter of the workshop's owner (who will never allow his daughter to go out with Johnny).
Fernando - Daniel Arenas: Born in Spain, he's been in Mexico for five years, studying to be an engineer; he's inherited his father's construction company. He is part of the "jet set" but is neither arrogant nor snobbish. He's an excellent catch: sexy, healthy, adventurous, he loves to travel, he loves music, food, good drink, his yacht, and golf.
Rosa - Jessica Segura: Teresa's younger sister, weak and not as attractive. She's excited about her quinceanera (15th birthday) when she'll dance with Johnny. She knows her father doesn't love her as much as he loves Teresa and though she always wants to earn his approval, she has no resentments. She likes gymnastics, but can't take part because of a heart defect.

Teresa was written by Mimí Bechalani and the first version was shown in 1959. This is the third version (the second one was starred by Salma Hayek in 1989).
There are simmilarities but it's not the same story.

Anon:
It's confusing because both shows are produced by José Alberto Castro and Sebastián Rullí plays the co-protagonist in both of them. I think the story and the characters of Teresa are meatier. I'm not a big fan of the producer, though.
I do think Teresa is a meatier role than Rubí and there's a problem with the estetic that might make them look the same.
