La Fea Más Bella #281-282 4/4/11 Lovers and Singers and Writers.
Read k-Fuego’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.
1. Fernando finds Lety’s house is unlocked. He remembers her birthday party and explores her bedroom. He wishes he could touch her dreams.
2. We see Omar and Caro, both pensive afterwards.
3. Alicia gets a big plasma TV. She refuses to go to Lety’s and he threatens to leave her for good. The thought of being homeless again convinces her to go with him.
4. The cuartel waits for TBLMOE at the restaurant. Irma calls Fernando because she’s worried for him. He’s at Plaza Garibaldi, but he says he’s going to move far away. She leaves the dinner to go be with him. Juana decides to join her. Paula says, “Don Fernando needs us.” The others follow.
5. Aldo, Aldad, and Lety arrive at her house for the engagement dinner. MamaJ serves Chiles en Nogada, a Puebla specialty. They talk a lot of nothing.
6. Fernando sings “Ella” with the mariachis. He serves them tequila but doesn’t drink any himself. The cuartel arrives and he thanks them for their support. He says Lety is getting married, and this is his first night of an eternity of suffering. He wants to take a serenade to show Lety he loves her more than Aldo. They get there but the cuartel convinces him to send the mariachis home, and they leave too.
7. Fern writes Lety a message on the sidewalk. He knows it’s wrong, but he just has to tell her how he feels. He gets home and is surprised to see Teresita there. He doesn’t want to tell the details of the show, nor is he in the mood to entertain, so he goes to bed.
8. Omar reluctantly leaves Caro’s house. He actually forgot about Aurora. Caro wonders if she’ll just be like all his other women.
.
.
9. Aldo and Lety find Fern’s message outside, “Lety, I desire for you to be happy.” Aldo throws a full scale tantrum, accusing Fern of blackmailing her. Lety sees nothing wrong with what Fern did, which only makes Aldo madder. Lety thinks Aldo is being petty, getting so angry at such a little thing. Lety even stands and talks like a grown woman, but only for a moment.
.
.
10. A “Just Married” car drives by and wipes out Fernando’s message, and Julieta catches the symbolism. Baby Lety returns, GSNAK.
Capitulo 282.
Read Alma’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.
1. What a funny scene! Omar sings and dances around. Fern thinks Omar scored with Aurora. Omar does not confirm nor deny, and the men dance and sing together.
2. In her dream, Aurora tells Fern that Aurora has to disappear. She’s afraid Aldo will think that she plays Aurora so she can be with Fern. He turns and it’s actually Aldo who asks, “Isn’t that the case?” Fern confirms, “Lety dresses as Aurora to seduce me.” Lety insists she loves Aldo. Fern solves the problem – Aldo can have Lety and he’ll take Aurora. Lety wails, “No! Lety and Aurora are the same!” She wakes up and asks God, “Who am I?” I’m guessing she’s not Jean Valjean.
3. Omar passes Aurora in the lobby without noticing her. The elevator door closes in Aurora’s face. Omar looks for an excuse to go back to Caro’s house.
4. Inocencio has a huge nose and yellow crooked teeth. He says his only charge is a kiss. Aurora takes offense – doesn’t he recognize her class? Yes, she has no heart. He removes the nose and teeth and then she wants a kiss, but no. He departs from the script and says his mission is to find where love is. He tells Aurora to remove her mask too.
5. Luigi tells Aurora to portray a burning desire to kiss Inocencio. They have to lock in a passionate gaze. Lety aces that assignment! So well, that she scares herself and runs away.
6. Fern tells Omar that Lety should teach Aurora how to flirt because she’s the master. Auroralety tells Tom and Caro that she can’t act that way in front of Fernando.
7. The cuartel disputes whether to tell Aldo that Fern brought Lety a serenade. Sara thinks it will make Aldo leave, and then Fern can win Lety. Paula says Lety loves Aldo. Irma says no, Lety’s confused.
8. Aldo arranges a yacht to hold the wedding on. Heaven forbid he should let Lety decide anything.
9. Omar says he finally understands what Fern meant when he said how special it was, making love to Lety. Fern confirms, she gave herself with love, and he felt her love in every kiss and every caress. Omar says he experienced the same thing with Carolina. Caro tells Lety that it was something special with Omar. Lety says Omar didn’t even notice Aurora that morning. Caro is afraid to get her hopes up.
10. Sara tells Aldo about the serenade. Marta says, “Don’t you think Lety should end up with Fernando?” Aldo replies, “I promise that Lety will end up with the man she deserves. I promise.”
11. Luigi tells the actors, “Great! I just need one more thing. A kiss on the lips.” Both are stunned.

Apparently when Pedro Infante sings it, it’s called “Ella,” but when Vicente Fernandez sings it, it’s called “Me canse de rogarle.” Here are some of the lyrics, loosely.
I’m tired of begging. I’m tired of saying that without her, I’m dying from the pain.
I don’t want to hear you if your lips will tell me you don’t love me anymore.
I feel like my life is lost in an abyss, deep and black, just like my luck.
I wanted to forget you the Jalisco way, but these mariachis and tequila made me cry.
And the other song, “Que seas feliz,” essentially says, “All I ask is that you’re happy, as we’re parting. I can’t be, after loving you so much. You will always be able to count on me, wherever you are. I don’t want to say goodbye by reproaching you with my tears. Instead I only want you to be happy.”
The first episode was all so much filler except for Omar and Carolina. But the second episode with Aurora & Fernando filming was hilarious. I can't wait to see if the kiss happens and if Fernando recognizes the lips.
Alicia giving the lessons in seduction was pretty funny.
btw this reap didn't show up at the usual link but I found it at the site with all Caray recaps.

I know that there is going to be a lot of Aldo bashing today for his tantrum -- but really now how would YOU feel if you left your engagement dinner & found a note from your novia's ex right there on the street in front of her house????
In such a tremendously Catholic family like theirs, the only place you can marry is in a church. Otherwise the marriage is not real and you are "living in sin".
I wonder if this is a foreshadow. It is not plausible for Lety's parents to allow her to marry anywhere other than a church. So maybe subconsciously they know Lety will not marry Alpo.
Julietta knows Lety truly loves Fernando more than Alpo.
I didn't catch the symbolism of the car erasing the "happiness" message until it was pointed out here.
Yes, I get it. Julietta saw a wedding car erase Fern's message to Lety. So that message was destroyed by a wedding. So if there is a wedding, Lety's happiness will be destroyed.
How could the people in Lety's house NOT hear the ruckus going on right outside their door? I was hoping someone would come outside and see what was going on..... But I guess in TN land, the walls are soundproof.
Diann
Doesn’t Camil look great in a tuxedo? And that came on the heels of the white tee shirt scene in the Three's Company apartment. YUMMY!
Omar can’t think of a good excuse to go back to Caro’s house. That’s because he’s never gone on a second date.
Aldo says, “I promise that Lety will end up with the man she deserves.” Considering how Lety’s been acting lately, that would be El Cheque!
Loved Fern and the Mariachi. When he pulled all those little shot glasses out of his jacket I was cracking up. He did it with such finess. The group that was playing is one of the best I have ever heard on a TN.
Also loved the Aurora/Fern scenes today. I think everyone was having a hard time not loosing it. Did get a kick out of the Luigi scene when he was using Fern as his example of how to to be seductive.
Now Aldo - getting somewhat upset that Fernando left a message on the sidewalk is one thing, but he went beserk. Aldo is one nasty fellow when he is mad. Plus, he hates not being in control. And when he's not, Aldo becomes very ugly. Deciding the wedding would be on the yacht was just one more way that for him to control things. Aldo, in essence, is a control freak and so we now know why his first wife skeedaddled. Lety's life with Aldo would be a living hell. I think he scared her and so she went into the baby voice to diffuse the situation. Then all of a sudden Aldo's attitude changes when the car wipes out the message. Can we say bi-polar, ladies?
I sincerely can do without the Tomas and Alicia scenes. I fast forward through them. But I can linger on the Fernando scenes. I loved how he didn't want to kiss Aurora. To him, kissing her would be being unfaithful to Lety and Fernando won't do that. No matter how much he suffers, Fernando will be faithful. Aldo? Only as long as he is in control. Run Lety, run like the wind!!!!!
La Paloma
The actors were really having trouble keeping a straight face during the shoot. And when Fern did his relaxation exercises, Angelica totally lost it!
I didn't feel that Aldo went berserk when he saw the sidewalk, but he was a bit of a baby about it. I mean, it wasn't Lety's fault so I don't understand why he got on her case...except that he knows she's not really over Fernando, heh. I like how he gave himself his own kiss of death via the statement that he promised Lety would end up with the man she deserves. Well I still think she deserves Don Fernando.
Wonderful recaps and absolutely superb screen shots and link. Thanks!
No way would I have missed a dinner with TBLMOE. No way, no how.
Today it felt like some people were getting on the same level. Fernando is one of the cuartel, Omar came in singing to them, Fer, Omar and Marcia live in a "colonia", even Marcia is getting less uptight. I haven't spent a lot of time analyzing it but it's just a feeling I get.
BTW, you were totally right about the faux Lirio in Llena. Good call! Last day for Llena is 4/18 so it looks like Juan Soler's new telenovela will replace it. Thanks for the update.
Did you notice that Issabela Camil will be in Teresa? But I think her role is "short-lived." I always thought she looked stoned in Fea.
Dinner with TBLMOE vs helping el pobre de Fernando? I'd try for both. Wait for FC to arrive and get a besito and photo, and then excuse myself to help a friend in crisis.
Did I ever tell you about my dinner with TBLMOE? I dreamed that I went to a banquet and found the seat with my name on it. We were at a round 8-seat table, and I was stunned to realize that right there at my table were two of the best looking men on earth. To my right sat Fernando Colunga. And to my left? A second Fernando Colunga!
I think Juan Soler's new telenovela is Cuando Me Enamoro. The way Univision is swapping things around who knows what will be when? I'm so confused.
I too would have had dinner with Colunga before finding Fern. It is not nice to stand up people esp people like Colunga!
Thanks Paula for all your hard work at improving the LFMB sequel.
Jenn
I would leave for Fernando!
Diann
Also wanted to add that when Julieta brought out those Chiles en Nogadas I almost flipped. I love those!!
So no one is going to say how creepy it was that Fern just went into Lety's house? I think that yes - he loves her a lot, but that sort of bothered me that he was just in her house and room without her permission. Another major invasion of privacy and also sort of a sign of some real stalker tendencies - he's always sort of struck me as the type to turn into a stalker if things don't work out. I just don't respond well to the idea of someone just going into my house like that - even if my parents were stupid enough to walk out and leave the door unlocked.
I thought the first half was sort of filler, but I did enjoy Fern's singing... the dinner with the family was just sort of boring and unnecessary. Although like you Diann I kept wondering why no one heard all of the noise and came out to investigate. They were SUPER noisy!
Today I really enjoyed Luigi when he almost kissed Fern and then Fern's rubbing his lips on everyone afterwards. Lots of funny moments in the 2nd cap...also loved Omar's singing and his and Fern's dancing around for joy after his loving from Caro.
Aldo was a baby, but I get his frustration with Fern just showing up all of the time and leaving messages and being a general nuisance. I think it's weird that Lety is ok with Fern just showing up whenever he wants...she really should leave Aldo just because she really doesn't know what she wants!
I loved Fern's reveal if only briefly as a FEO. LOL - that was funny...wonder why they felt it was necessary to have Teresita in those scenes... :)
I'm looking forward to Fern and Auroralety kissing tomorrow...can we PLEASE end this whole Aurora storyline already?
Now off to try to read the old recaps...
I started thinking about Aldo and the wedding on the yacht. He'd have COMPLETE control - a captive wedding party, once they launch! No one can run through the door at the last minute and yell, "His first wife is locked in the atic!" ala Jane Eyre. The bride can't run away down the beach in her skivies ala Tontas. Lety can't see Fern come in the back door, come to her senses, and ditch Aldo at the altar.
Interesting point, Barbara, that Aldo didn't calm down until Lety acted like a baby. In fact, I didn't check this, but.. I know Lety stood up to Aldo like a grwon woman and told him to chill. Did his fury escalate after that? i.e. when he saw adult Lety, did it drive him into a panic? I'm just asking; I don't know.
Diann, Colunga is the chiseled-jawed galán on the sidebar on this page, between the photos of Fernando and Lety.
Sylvia, you know where you can get good chiles en nogadas! Carmel is not that far! They're calling you!
GP, I agree that it was creepy that Fern went up to Lety's room. And as for Teresita at the shoot, yes, strange, especially since she lives in London. Someone said that she threw fits, demanding a bigger role. They probably agreed to a certain amount of screen time.
I wondered what Lety's look was about after she told her mom that she'd decided to marry Aldo - she's getting quite good at faking it.
I think Aldo wants the yacht because everything about his life is all about the sea and in his mind there's no better place to get married than the place he feels most at home. In fact the longer he's away from the sea the worse he becomes...it's probably time for him to make a visit to Acapulco before he turns into the incredible hulk. ;o)
The yacht for the wedding means water, which is wear Aldo is most comfortable. In Acapulco, he had complete control. Since coming to DF, he's seen many times where others were in control and not him. What Aldo doesn't like is that Fernando can still reach Lety's heart. He doesn't have full control over that. For Aldo, he needs to get Lety back to Acapulco as fast as he can, so that he gains and maintains control. It all boils down to the fact that Aldo is a control-freak. When he finally realizes that he's lost total control over Lety, he will leave.
In Aldo's mind, Fernando is not being fair because he keeps trying to protect Lety and show her how much he loves her. Aldo doesn't have control over Fernando and thinks that his engagement to Lety allows him to rule and reign. I agree that Lety manages Aldo but has a real relationship with Fernando. I think she has realized that she has to play the game to maintain peace with Aldo. So, how do you want to spend the rest of your life - playing peace maker? Can you see Lety at 60 using the baby talk to calm down Aldo? Perish the thought!
Could not believe how utterly creepy it was when Fern walked into the empty house and then wandered up to Lety's room. I guess the cuartel isn't the only people who don't have any sense of boundaries.
I would have had no problem going to help Fern because honesty you couldn't pay me to have dinner with Colunga. Sorry ladies but I don't care for him and never have going back to his first novela, which by coincidence was also mine.
Loved the Cara/Omar scenes but thought how odd she had no make up on when he came in and later when he went to her room but cut to the bed later on and she is in full war paint. The only thing I can think is that did change and they went out to talk - oh wait not after all that kissing. Totally agree he looked hot when he left her house having had his whole world change.
Totally loved the scene in the lobby when he walked in and Aurora was talking to Jaz and he completely ignored her. Yesterday he would have been on the floor kissing her feet, today he lets the elevator door close on her. Hilarious and she did looked a little surprised.
I was also surprised to see the very professional Angelica lose it twice today, first with Ali's breathing lessons and then with Fern's odd breathing and gestures with Luigi after the break from the script scene.
As has been said before everything goes around in circles in this show. Now we have Omar talking to Fern about how different his feelings were when he was with Caro and how he understood what Fern meant when he talked about his first time with Lety.
Call me a prude, but Omar and Caro end up in bed, what? Five minutes into their first "date" since he broke free of Aurora? And then she's worried he'll consider her just another notch in the bedpost? Geesh!
Barbara, you said, "Fernando is morphing into the perfect man." Absolutely! That's one of the things I love about this stage - he is perfectly masculine and heroic, and yet he is also perfectly compassionate, emotional, tender - qualities usually considered more feminine. Of course, that level of perfection is impossible in the real world, but we watch TN's to get away from the real world!
GP, You asked about Lety's look when she said she'd decided to marry Aldo. To me, it said, "That's my story and I'm sticking to it."
Juan Soler's next novela, Cuando me enamoro, is supposed to be a remake of La Mentira (will be tough to match the chemistry of Guy Ecker and Kate del Castillo) with Sylvia Navarro. I am not even considering watching it... had enough with 'el juramento' to know that Guy/Kate's version can't be matched.
I thought Fern's message was harmless - you could take it as "I'm sure you won't be happy with this guy," but you could also take it as "if this is what makes you happy, I'm on board." Even if Aldo took it in the most cynical way possible, it would merit only a cynical eye-roll at most. Hardly a tantrum.
Dianne, they can have their civil ceremony (required in Mexico to have a legally valid marriage) on a yacht and still go to church for a small wedding there. But since the bride's parents traditionally pay for the wedding, it's very obnoxious of Aldo to have set this up without discussing with Lety and her parents.
GP - good point about Lety managing Aldo rather than having a friendship. She's always reacting to him - rarely initiating anything, even a topic of conversation, because he doesn't give her a chance to do so. He's driving this boat, and she doesn't get to steer!
Barbara, I agree Juan Soler looks 1000% better with a haircut in the ad for that new TN!
That photo of Fernando Colunga in the sidebar is just about the least flattering photo I've ever seen of him. It certainly does not do him justice - in fact, most posed photos of him don't, IMO. He looks better in candid shots or in motion.
I still don't think it is plausible for Lety's parents to be okay with a civil ceremony first. They are staunchly old school Mexicans and a church is the only way you get married.
Remember how Fern wanted to marry Marcia in a civil ceremony, not in a church?
Thats because he was planning on divorcing her at some point. (This even way back before he fell in love with Lety, he spoke about it with Omar). Because you "can't" divorce if you marry in the church. Once married in the church, married for life in God's eyes.
So to them, civil may be temporary, you can get "out of it". And I don't think Lety's parents would allow her to "shack up" with Alpo in Aca. Because Civil ceremony is, to them, not really married.
Remember all the commotion with Tomas/Ali? Ali could marry in the church because her first marriage didn't "count".
Diann
Whats the name of the restaurant in Carmel that serves those Chiles?
I'm not too far away from Carmel, about 4 hours, and I might make it there one of these days....
Diann
Diann, name of the restaurant is Hola. Are you 4 hours North, South or East? There are also Holas in Belmont and Burlingame but they're not nearly the destination that Carmel is. So far I haven't been to any of them but the one in Carmel is on my bucket list.
MY point is that Lety and Aldo and all other church-married couples in Mexico MUST have a civil ceremony in order for the marriage to be legal. This is glossed over in some (not all) telenovelas, but it is what most couples do. The civil ceremony is going to happen, whether in the judge's office or on a yacht.
I don't see any reason for Lety's parents to object to the yacht ceremony as long as Aldo agrees to a church ceremony (which could be very small) as well.
I don't recall anyone saying that the church wedding wouldn't be first, nor that Lety would shack up with Aldo before the church wedding if the yacht thing did happen first. That may be what Aldo's assuming, but the Padillas would be assuming the opposite, which should make for some interesting conversation when it comes time to nail down the details.
