Cuando Me Enamoro #11 Thursday 5/5/11 Glares, Stares and Muchas Bonitas

As usual, if anyone has a better translation for anything or thinks I should add something please feel free to comment. Tonight the Soberón ladies add a couple more notches to their belts and we get a lot of evil glares, shocked stares, and a plethora of “Bonitas”.

Capítulo 11

Yesterday’s big conclusion was Jero showing up at the Monterrubio door, he’s a friend of Matías, and then his cara impactada when he discovers Roberta is an R-girl (name begins with R). An electrifying hand shake, she’s all interested in his guapo-ness but he gives her a death ray glare.

Gonzo sternly gives Regina 10 minutes to state her case as to why she didn’t show for their appointment.

Adriana has a one-on-one with Matías in his office. She thanks him for the loan and understanding about her mom’s illness, but that’s not why he wanted to speak with her. He asks how would she like to have Renata’s old job? She’s the best candidate. Dang that girl gets so excited she runs around and gives Mat a big hug. I wonder if he will recall her hug in the way that Renata recalls Jero’s kiss? Nah, it’s probably too early for that.

Fina calls her stool pigeon and rips him a new one for not telling her about Renata becoming VP. She actually has the nerve to tell him HE caused big probs with her husband, no more mistakes please, pay better attention! She hangs up and has a mini crazy-eyed tantrum, “I can’t let things get out of my control, I can’t I can’t!!”

Inside the house Jero ominously checks out Roberta, compliments her (calls her Bonita, ooh!), and creepily asks her to meet him that night for a coffee or glass of wine. For someone who swore off all men less than 24 hrs ago she’s sure falling all over herself to hook up with the glaring one. They both want their little meeting to be their secret. He says don’t bother to tell Matias I came by, I’ll see him at the party. I’m coming for him AND for you. Ominous music.

Adriana and Renata are all hugs and kisses over Adriana’s promotion. Adriana’s got a huge crush on Mat and calls him a hunk (tipazo), then she advises Renata to wise up and go for Matias, he’s always been her dreamboat, if she doesn’t act now she might regret it the rest of her life.

Regina tells Gonzo she didn’t exactly forget the appointment. She got some bad news about their major benefactor and she was so upset she messed up cancelling the appointment. She assumes full responsibility but please don’t take it out on the mothers and children who so badly need the support. She gives her word she would never do anything to jeopardize the future of her women. Gonzo is impressed by this lovely woman’s heartfelt apology. Just then she looks up and sees the pics of the R girls. Gasp, who are they? He proudly explains they are his daughters Roberta and Renata. Dramatic music plays as she stares at the picture.

Over at the hacienda Augustin is bitching to the long-suffering doc that he wishes that imbecile Jero would leave the area forever. Doc says something about maybe Augie has met his match in Jero (la horma de tu zapato). Augie threatens that when Jero returns he’ll find out who is the big cheese in the Valle de Guadalupe. (I think that’s what he said?)

Jero is in his car or taxi thought bubbling that he’s got to make sure that Roberta is La Bonita. He’s sorry if she’s the sis of Matías but if Roberta ends up being La Bonita then she will pay for Rafa’s death.

Yep, Gonzo is completely smitten with the charming Regina. They even already have “their” song which is Andrea Bocelli’s version of Cuando Me Enamoro. See, I’m not just making this stuff up, the music doesn’t lie! He’s very impressed with her passion and the way she came to apologize to him. He’s even ready to ante up with the donation right away. She’s practically crying she’s so happy, mentions something about her daughter (couldn’t understand, sorry) and insists he come visit The Center so he can see all the good his money is doing. He looks like he just won the lottery at the thought of it. He stares at her all moon-doggie when she leaves. Oh he’s got it bad and who can blame him?

So much for Roberta’s secret, she’s already blabbing all to her pal Selene about the bon-bon Jero. She’s even got his pic and bio up on her laptop. He’s not guapo, he’s guapissimo! They review his assets (rich, businessman, nothing about family so still no connection to Rafa) and Roberta snarls that Renata’s not the only one can make a guy fall for her at first sight. Selene wonders if Matias will be mad that Rob’s making a play for Jero but of couse Rob doesn’t give a flying fig what Mat thinks. Selene adds this should make Rob forget Rafa once and for all which sets Rob off on a “don’t ever mention his name again!” She vehemently vows that the new galán is just for fun, she’ll never love anyone ever again!

Jero calls Matilde to ask if the name Roberta rings a bell. Nope, Rafa only ever referred to her as La Bonita.

Barcelona Spain: Lorea (Jero’s old GF that he dumped) runs into Carlos at a cafe and sees he’s got tickets for Mexico. Carlos sez he doesn’t know if she’s heard or not but she’ll find out sooner or later... “Jero, is something wrong with Jero?” she gasps, jumping to conclusions. And oddly, that’s the last we see of Lorea tonight.

Augustin calls Renata and says her business (wine distributor?) was highly recommended to him. He wants to speak with one of the owners or someone who can make decisions. She agrees to personally meet him the following day at 6:30 p.m. What do we think? Another conquest for the irresistible Renata? Oh hell yeah.

Regina calls Jero to tell him she’s discovered who the R girls are. He tells her he also found out when he visited the Monterubbio house. He’s certain that Roberta is the one. Regina tries to tell him both daughters are R girls but he interrupts so of course in true telenovela fashion the one short, key sentence does not get uttered. Jero says he’s going to continue to investigate Roberta and Regina advises him to be careful so he doesn’t do anything crazy.

Speaking of crazy, crazy in luuuuurv that is, Gonzo recalls the impassioned Regina busting into his office complete with background music, “what a beauty” he mutters. He reassures his sis Constanza that Regina was everything she said and more, interesting and with a firm character. He tells her he donated but does Connie know anything about Regina’s personal life? He wonders what about that deal with her daughter has given her so much passion?

Jero calls Roberta, he calls her Bonita in fact, which is accompanied by a clash of cymbals. He invites her out for a cup of wine, does she know where La Mentirosa is? She’s taken aback by the location but agrees to meet him there. On his end he’s all Mr. Evil Face which makes me wonder about the audition tapes for this role. I'm thinking his world class glare got him this part.

The moon rises over the DF...

Gonzo comes home to find Fina opening (spilling really, what a slob) champagne and he wonders what’s up, candles, champagne? Tonight she wants to be by his side. He tells her he’s tired but she insists, says she was thinking they could get tired out another way. (Eeeewwwww, run away Gonzo!!). She tells him she loves him, lays a big kiss on him and thought bubbles “you’re not going to draw away from me, never!” Her creepy psycho music plays.

Matt is outside by a fountain (on their property I guess) and Renata joins him. She says he’s acting a little odd and distant, what’s up? He sez he doesn’t want to bother her but he’s working hard at hiding his feelings. “What feelings?” she asks. “I’m completely in love with you.”

Renata tells him those are the words she wanted to hear for many years and all those years she kept her true feelings for him a secret. However now she’s not sure of her own feelings, whether she’s afraid, or in a panic about the consequences, blah blah blah. She’s confused and doesn’t want to hurt either of them. He says there’s only one way to find out if what they have is real or a passing fancy. Will she run that risk? Yep, and they seal it with a kiss.

Jero shows up at La Mentira and orders a double tequila. He shows Christian the bartender a picture of Roberta (and Renata) and asks if he recognizes her (Roberta). Yep, she (Renata) was just there last night asking about a young man named Rafael Gutierrez, sounded like more than just a friend, probably her boyfriend. Jero gives the guy his name, number and a bribe and tells him to call if she shows up again.

Still kissing, Matias tells Nata that little by little he’ll erase all her doubts and fears. She asks him to promise that if for whatever reason this doesn’t work out they will remain friends. He promises but I guess we’ll just see about that.

Regina gives Antonio a debrief about her trip, sorry for not calling. Tony understands, the first of many understandings on his part I’m sure, and comments it’s natural for Jero to be ticked off about his brother, so young, such a shame that the death was so sudden. Regina brings up Roberto’s death, also a surprise, and says she always wondered if it was an accident or caused by his lover Pepa. (Orchestral crash!)

Tony tells her not to worry, Jero is a sensible/rational guy (sensato, not sensible which is a false friend and means sensitive). He congratulates her on getting the big donation and moves in for a kiss but she pulls away in a panic. Sorry, she thought she was ready for love but... Too bad so sad for Tony.

Roberta walks into La Mentira and Jero thought bubbles, if you’re the one who destroyed Rafael then I’m going to destroy you!. His evil face transforms into that of a gracious gentleman and like a cat playing with a mouse, he tells her she’s Bonita.

Matias and Renata are upstairs getting all hot and bothered. I think they’re going to do it in the hallway. Oh smack! She kisses him goodnight and shuts the door. They both smile and head off for the cold showers.

Gonzo, complete with a bad case of bed head, (didn’t we just know she’d be on top? control freak!) watches Fina sleep as he pours himself a glass of champagne. He thought bubbles that the passion he once felt for her is dying (extinguiendo) and he hopes it’s just a passing crisis.

Small talk between Roberta and Jero, she doesn’t work in the family biz, only her sis and Matias, she knows he’s a successful businessman, FF>>. He leans over and says he can’t believe a woman as BONITA as she is doesn’t have a boyfriend. She tells him she’s not used to being called bonita, not when she’s next to her sister Renata. (Yo Sherlock, another R girl!!) He misses the clue and says nobody could be prettier than Roberta. He tells BONITA he wants to spend the next day with her. What about it BONITA? Sure, as long as they keep it a secret.

Next day at the Regina’s Hope Center Regina tells Inez that she couldn’t kiss Antonio. She blathers on a bit about still feeling guilty about Roberto’s death, daughter’s kidnapping, can’t get over it. Inez tells her to give it a rest, she deserves love like anyone else. Regina’s problem is that she’s afraid of love. Inez advises her to break the chains of suffering once and for all.

At Empresa Monterrubio Gonzo and Mat are man hugging (again) because Mat has fantastic news but he won’t tell it until later on at home when everyone is together.

Meanwhile Renata tells Adriana that she and Matias are officially novios. Adriana’s not exactly jumping for joy but explains she’s just still a little worried about mom. Renata sez she’s still worried about Rafa because they haven’t located him yet.

Roberta is having breakfast at the country club with Selene, the lazy rich perras. She brags about what a successful businessman Jero is compared to that good-for-nothing Rafael, hmmmph! But on the down side, he wanted to rendezvous at the same place that she and Rafa used to go, and he kept calling her Bonita like Rafa used to do, and even some of his mannerisms reminded her of Rafa which gave her a bad vibe (saca de onda). Selene suggests she use this guy to forget Rafa. Roberta doesn’t want to forget Rafa, she wants his memory to keep her from falling in love forever!

Jero calls his friend Carlos to tell him last night he met up with Rafa’s girlfriend, she’s as pretty as she is perverse. Carlos things this is a very dangerous game that Jero is playing. Jero corrects him, it’s not a game it’s a vengeance! I think this guy only has one speed and it is Vengeance!

Baja California Norte: The doc “casually” asks Lazarus if it’s true that they’ll have a new boss? Lazaro gazes suspiciously at the doc and sez Yep, they’re now working for Mr. Jeronimo. He knows the doc is on a fact finding mission and he doesn’t like it. As if the doc could put one over on our Lazaro, NOT!

Matilde is blabbing to the doctor’s wife Karina and honestly I can’t understand a word she says because she’s talking too fast. Lazaro walks up and sternly asks if she’s done. Guess he doesn’t like Mati talking to Mrs. Doc aka Kari. The doc shows up with a bouquet of flowers and makes a big show of giving them to Kari plus a kiss on the neck. However Kari stares longingly at Lazaro and it looks like the feeling is mutual. The plot thickens.

It’s a big family dinner at Monterrubio Manor and even Fina is smiling for a change. It looks like Roberta is texting someone, glad to see she’s fully engaged as usual. Renata nervously wants Matias to make the announcement. He says that starting right now he and Renata are novios! Big smiles and congrats all around except for Bitch Queen of the Galaxy Fina. I knew her fake smile wouldn’t last long. She nudges Roberta who shrugs and continues texting. Fina has her nastiest sneer on, thus validating every mother’s warning “If you keep frowning your face will freeze like that forever.”

Mañana: Fina’s not happy, big surprise. Roberta think she’s got Jero wrapped around her finger, let the vengeance begin.

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone! I hope you did, or plan to do something fun to celebrate. I made Mole Poblano and cracked open my bottle of Mezcal. Wheeee!

Vocab:
extinguiendo = dying/ extinguished
tipazo = hunk
sacar de onda = to annoy, ruin a moment, give a bad vibe, buzz kill
sensato/a = sensible/rational
sensible = sensitive
la horma de tu zapato = you’ve met your match (lit. the shape of your shoe)

Oh my stars Sylvia. This was wonderful! A definite "put the coffee aside" recap.
"didn’t we just know she’d be on top? control freak!" I burst out laughing so hard, I scared the act sitting next to me, and yes, alnost spilled the coffee.

"thus validating every mother’s warning “If you keep frowning your face will freeze like that forever.”" Just hysterical. (And yeah, she gives sourpuss a whole new meaning.)

I had to crack up at Adriana's reaction. I'm in the middle of doing interviews to fill a position in our Chicago office. I can just imagine when I make the final offer and have the person screaming and clapping, let alone give me a hug.
And did we get a hint as to who Matias may wind up with - the sweet devoted Adriana who will love him quietly until that magic moment. ( I watch too many of these shows.)

NEVER want to have to see another Gonzo/Fina moment again. Love Gonzo- but let's just save his disrobing for his Regina hook up. Just the thought of Fina...didn't do wonders for the dinner I just ate.

I wanted to just hug Matias and say "Dude, she's just not that into you". Those kisses were sort of lame, and just no spark. But he's so in luuuurrrrvvvv - and headed for a major fall when she falls for Jero. Made me sad - he's so cute.

Syliva: Wonderful recap. Blessed novela masters let us see that Gonzo has lucid moments.

Muchas gracias for the recap, Sylvia! (And to Marta for yesterday!)

Fina's whole "seduction" routine is truly, truly creepy. Now that Gonzo has met Regina, let's hope he starts to realize what a rotten person Fina is. (And I love Andrea Bocelli, so it's great that Gonzo/Reg already have a song.)

Queridos, I'm afraid I can't recap tonight. I wish I could but the work is piling up for finals and my dad just recently had a difficult surgery. There's a lot I need to work out this weekend away from TN-land. Could someone cover for me? I'll gladly return the favor in the future!

Amy

Sylvia, ITA with daisyjay... I haven't got my coffee yet but you are my savior! I had an event at my daughter's school yesterday (she went to Europe last summer, now I am setting her up to go to japan, her dream trip, summer 12) and when I got home neither Cuando nor LaPola had taped... so you saved me at least with this one and with a hysterical recap!! sounds like last night was mostly setup for tonight...
LOVED the Gonzo/Regina notion AND the Lazaro/Karina is a very interesting twist from the orig 98.
Btw, Jero's old girlfriend is Lorena, i believe.
And I am glad Regina I was honest with Antonio before he kept taking her for granted as HIS WOMAN... if Gonzo keeps showing up it might have got very sticky there...
The whole thing of the bartender telling Jero that Renata had gone there asking for Rafa is yet another thing that will point him to her later...
Can't wait for Roberta to find out Jero met and kissed Renata first... she will not be a happy camper... but then again, she is following her blood (Fina, didn't get much other than physical resemblance from Roberto, did she?)

Excellent, Sylvia. Lots of great lines, my favorite:

"...Another conquest for the irresistible Renata? Oh hell yeah."

This show is really going through some painfully awkward contortions to get things all lined up, but once the pieces are in place, this should be a breathtaking ride.

Also, this is chock full of pretty women in every age group. Both Renata and Roberta are gorgeous as are all the other ladies. Poor Fina is such a sourpuss, she sticks out like a sore thumb:

“If you keep frowning your face will freeze like that forever.”

Martaivett, I've been anxiously waiting for La Pola to start and then it started without me... drat. I watched it for the first time last night and it looks to be very exciting.

Carlos

So many great lines in your recap, Sylvia. Many have already been noted. I loved the reference to Andrea Boc"I'm not making this stuff up. The music doesn't lie."

There have been so many convolutions in this plot development -- some of them stretching credibility but it looks like we have most of the pieces in place now. I can't wait for Jero to meet Renata & get her name right. And yes, Roberta will go ballistic when she finds out that Renata got to Jero first.

So did I get the dialogue right? It sounded as though the doctor's unfulfilled wife used to have a thing going with Mathilde's brother. Boy did she pick the wrong guy the brother is a brooding hunk.

Good morning everyone and thank you for commenting on the recap.

Amy, of course one of us will cover for you or at least post a header for discussion or comments. I'm busy tonight but if nobody else gets around to it I can do a quickie recap tomorrow. If someone wants to share let me know and we can coordinate. Family and school come first, no argument there!

Daisy, well gracias amiga, a "put the coffee aside" recap is the highest compliment in my book. Having been an HR professional I also cracked up at Adriana's reaction. Just imagine!

Pasofino, I'm with you about Gonzo. Since I've got a bit of a crush on Rene Casados I want to see him actively choose Regina and be happy.

Marta, good point of Jero meeting and kissing Renata first. I hadn't even thought of that by man oh man Roberta is going to be royally pithed off when she finds that out.

One niggling detail, if Jero showed up at the bar and paid Christian the bartender to call him if he sees Roberta again, wouldn't Christian see the two of them together and think, Dude why are you paying me to call you when you are here with her? Yes, I know the bartender thinks Jero was talking about Renata, but Jero doesn't know that. Does that make sense?

Carlos, I think about you every time that Roberta is on the screen. I know you have a soft spot for the "bad" girls. What do you think of her? Both she and Fina seem to lack that little pizazz or spark, in my opinion, so I'm interested in yours.

Oh dear, La Pola started? I was thinking about watching it but I simply don't have the time. It looks smashing though.

Güera, is that what you heard? That Kari and Lazaro once had a thing going? I couldn't tell but it totally makes sense. She probably thought that marrying a doctor was a step up. ITA with you, the doc is a wimp and Lazaro is a tipazo. Also, so far Lazaro is the only one with brains as far as I can see.

Yes, the plot has been very convoluted and confusing. I'm getting tired of the setup and ready for the fireworks.

Have a great Friday everyone!!

This show is really going through some painfully awkward contortions to get things all lined up
I agree, Carlos. We usually see relations between characters that resemble a christmas garland... A is related to B and B is related to C so A and C know each other but are not related directly.
Here it looks more like a spider web.
Augie owns an hacienda almost clearly across country but he is going to be related to the Monterrubio family via business in more ways than one...
Regina I is the actual mother of Renata but she is also going to be related to the Monterrubios via her charity and via the fact that she knew Jeronimo from earlier.
you would never expect those people to be related in more ways than one but they are in here. Very convoluted way to introduce to us the novela in just about two weeks but it works and it keeps us the audience helplessly committed to watch...

Good point Sylvia about Jero/Roberta/Renata and Christian the bartender...
Roberta said to her friend that she was a bit turned off that jero wanted to meet her in the same bar where she used to go with Rafa, so Christian should notice her when she goes there with Jero now and hopefully will point something out to Jero about Roberta also hanging out there with Rafa...
poor Jero... will be one confused impulsive man.. an explosive combination for sure.

If our friend Paula from La Fea was watching she would have the relationships charted out by now. Alas, I don't have the wherewithal to do such a thing. A spider web is a good description. If the writers are clever then it will all make sense, if not then we will be hopelessly confused. Marta, I hope you're right that we will all be helplessly committed.

If I recall correctly from the intro in episode 1 then Regina will end up somehow wanting to protect Renata from Jero's vengeance. There are a lot of things lining up that will throw Regina and Gonzo together.

Silvia, everyone has already told you how wonderful your recap is, so what is there left for me to say? It was WONDERFUL!! Muchas gracias. There were so many delight lines. Many of my favorites have already been pointed out, but I might add one more (this one re Juan Soler): "I'm thinking his world class glare got him this part."

I'm also most grateful to you for offering some Spanish vocab. I'm watching these TNs at least in part to try to improve my Spanish (at least, that's what I tell people :-) ), and so I'm especially happy when recappers call attention to some Spanish words.

Also, unlike Güera, I didn't catch any of what the doctor's wife said, but her facial expression and Lazaro's sent me the pretty clear message that they had something going.

daisynjay, I agree with everything you said in your comment. Perhaps my comment should simply read: "What daisynjay said."

I think a lot of us got spoiled watching Llena and wonderfully evil Fedra was. She just seemed to glow when her confused little mind started spinning it's web. I almost could get why Carlos found her so appealing (you devil, you).

But Fina is just drab. There's no "fun" to her evilness-the best villians/esses bring that little bit of crazy happy to the role - don't see it with her. Just see snarling and sour and screeching.

And gracias Juanita - the way things are going at work today, so enjoyable to see a nice comment. I had to come on here for a break from all my sourpusses :)

have to agree with Carlos and daisyj, Fina just does not come through as interesting and thrilling and unpredictable as Fedra was in Llena. RB has had great roles but this is not a good match for her.

Having watched the first couple of weeks, I got drawn in to CME.

However, the previews for La Pola got me intrigued. I started to watch it--it's a horse of a different color. I'm learning a lot (hopefully it's being truthful about the history lessons).

I can't record one and watch the other, so here is a BIG BIG THANK YOU to the recappers and commenters to keep me current with what's going on with CME.

Ok, I admit, when La Pola goes to commercials, I switch to CME and sometimes forget to switch back right away--but OFFICIALLY, I'm watching La Pola.
Newbie-OK

Juanita, you're too funny, I feel the same way sometimes..."what s/he said".

I, too, miss the villainy of Fedra and Lowrenzo. Fina takes herself way too seriously. It's truly hard to imagine she could keep everyone fooled all these years because of her perpetual scowl. ITA with Marta, Fedra was unpredictable, made her more interesting.

Newbie, thanks for checking in. La Pola sounds fantastic and I don't blame you a bit for watching. I love those epic costume dramas, especially when they incorporate real life. Check in again and let us know how La Pola is moving along. The ads look spectacular.

Sylvia, I think that Roberta has a beauty similar to Coni (Gancho) though I don't think she has the same charisma or potential that Coni had. I'm afraid that she is about as good as she's gonna be and will spiral downhill from here... though I hope not. I can't believe that they teased us (well, me) with a glimpse of Gardenia (MEPS) and now... "no Gardenia for you!"

Carlos

CME vs LaPola... have to say if i had to drop one it would be CME (as good and as much I like the 'changes' as I have so far).
I can thank my DVDR (well, when it doesn't act up like last night, I did not get EITHER!! ..) so I can watch both.
I have to say la Pola is great, best period/historical novela seen since CS 93. and the young actors playing the leads in these first few eps and Julian Arango (Hugo in YSBLF) are excellent.
Locations, storyline and script are wonderful so far.

Carlos, don't despair, I have a feeling we will see more of Gardenia. Hot weather, working in the fields, she wants to prove she's as good one of those male engineers, good stuff. We'll just have to be patient.

Marta, you confirm what I suspected, that La Pola is one of those special shows that rises above the typical telenovela. One of the reasons I haven't tuned in is I'm afraid I'll get hooked; I watch too much TV already. My first telenovela was Alborada and I thought they would all be like that. Uh...no.

About La Pola

Newbie 1,

I wouldn't count on a lot of accurate history, but last night's episode sure pulled me in. I'm really liking the peripheral characters and la Pola is already a firecracker.

Martaivett,

I'm so disappointed that I missed the first episodes of la Pola. I had been expectantly waiting for the debut and then yesterday read here that it had already begun... drat. The last preview I had seen said muy pronto. I'm already feeling sorry for Alejo's brother who was all set to marry a pretty little girl from Spain and now his brother is going to get her. She is the only one who is happy (Alejo's brother is dorky)... Alejo wants la Pola...

Carlos

Carlos, try here. Nadjila posted this address in the telenovela-world la pola forum.
http://www.colombitube.com/public_html/tv1/novela_la_pola.html/
not sure if they will still have the very first episodes online but its worth a try

Alejo's brother is dorky)... lol i said in the other forum that he looks like Mr Spock from Star Trek without the pointy ears

sorry ladies i promise i wont turn this into a La Pola forum. i'm done.

Doesn't bother me. Is anyone recapping La Pola or does it have English subtitles?

Sylvia I just love your recaps. They are always such a fun and entertaining read. Thanks so much. Also thanks for the hyperlink. What an amazing musician!! That song has been running thorugh my head all day!!

I'm slow in catching up! Thank you so much for this recap! Excellent detail and snark!
