Teresa Fri 7/22/11 #102 Sharkita Trumps Vanessssa, Fito es Maldito, y Llegó el Gigoló Hugo.

(combined scenes throughout)

RUH-ROH!! Chica selling cookbooks asks Teresa if she ever found Mariano? IN FRONT OF LUISA!!! HAHAHA!

CASA ALCAZAR: Vanesssssa has her bags packed and ready by the door but she wants a few words with Hector before she vacates the premises. He tells her she had it coming. He had made it very clear that anything between them was impossible and that he loves Juana. Vanessa accuses him of only wanting revenge. No, what he wants is to live peacefully (tranquilo) and that she respect Juana. Vanessa thinks he just wants to separate her from her hija, but she will not permit it! She’s tried to reconcile with him but he’s rejected her. Now he’s forcing her to do things she doesn’t want to do. She’s upset that he divorced her without notifying her. Hector loses it and raises his voice, telling her he would have told her if he only knew where she was! She was the one who disappeared so don’t come here with your silly stories and now you need to scram! Aurora walks in and says, “Vamonos” Hector takes that to mean she’s driving her to a hotel. Aurora clarifies that she means to move in with Vanessssssa. Hector is heartbroken and Vanessa’s head is downcast, playing the victim. Hector begs her to reconsider. Aurora comments that this is his house and will soon be Juana’s as well and Vanessa won’t be able to visit her whenever she wants. Sooner or later this would cause problems between Vanessa and Juana and it isn’t fair to either of them. Hector is nearly crying and says he isn’t about to lose her because of Vanessa. Vanessa really lays it on thick now. She humbly apologizes to Hector, then turns to Aurora saying she doesn’t want to affect her relationship with her father. Hector looks on in disbelief. Well, hang on good Doctor, cuz here comes another blow. Juana walks in saying, “that’s not going to happen. I’m the extra one here.” Hector can’t believe this is happening.

FERNANDO’S APT: Sharkita starts tap dancing, saying she wasn’t looking for Mariano but she had heard from Aida that he lived here. She hastily buys two cookbooks to get rid of the chatty neighbor. Then she asks Luisa if she should tell Arturo, acting as though she’s soooo concerned and doesn’t want any problems. Luisa advises her to tell him. It would be much worse if they run into each other and he finds out Teresa knew all along.

The talk turns to the wedding. Teresa’s afraid that if Oriana orders it, she won’t be one of Luisa’s bridesmaids, since she isn’t “high society”. Luisa understands but hasn’t said anything because she’s doesn’t want to rock the boat. Teresa also doesn’t want to cause problems with her future Monster-in-law. Luisa tells her that Arturo basically put Oriana in her place. She’s sure she can convince Oriana that Teresa must be a bridesmaid and besides if it weren’t for her, she and Fernando wouldn’t be novios. Teresa hugs her and says she’s so happy she’s letting her help with the wedding.

CASA BARRERA: Arturo wants to make sure Fernando really wants to marry Luisa and isn’t just giving in to his mother. Fer assures him Luisa is the love of his life, etc., etc. Arturo warns him that better be so because in the event there is a problem in the future, he’ll come looking for him - not his mother. Fer laughs this off and tells him he has nothing to worry about. There are other things they need to discuss, Arturo says, among them the question of money. He tells Fer that Luisa is protected financially with what their parents left her and also with what he’s given her. Fernando says he will take care of Luisa and promises Arturo that she will live in a manner she deserves. Arturo suggests a pre-nup since Fernando has so much money. Uh-oh, Odiosa Oriana has just slithered in and of course voices her opinion. She’s against a pre-nup, saying that would be offensive to Luisa. Arturo mentions that’s what is done these days and it’s best to have everything out in the open from the beginning. (He and Teresa didn’t sign one, right?) Oriana feels this is only done when there is little confidence in the couple. But that’s not the case here. Fer chimes in saying what’s hers is hers and what’s his will be hers and for their children. Oh, I like that! Arturo’s still not convinced but Oriana waves his objections aside saying Luisa will be a wonderful wife and mother. She will be part of her family with all the obligations and privileges that come with it.

CASA ALCAZAR: Juana pleads her case. They can continue their relationship away from this house. Hector attempts to say something but she stops him, telling him to allow Aurora and her mother to continue to live there, for Aurora’s sake. She takes him away so they can talk alone. Vanessa doesn’t understand that woman – first she’s all drama and now she’s the peacemaker. Aurora just cries. Vanesssssssa now says she agrees with Juana that they should stay and later they can convince Hector to return. Ugh. What a snake!

FITO EL MALDITO meets Johnny on a corner. They chat back and forth – Fito lures him with all the potential earnings and how Pati can continue to live the life she’s accustomed to. Johnny hems and haws – bottom line: Fito wants to know if he’s in. Johnny doesn’t like it and tells him his dealings are bien grueso (slang for really bad, heavy). Fito says fine, then don’t be surprised to find the little woman ice cold in the middle of the street! This really scares Johnny and he pleads for Pati’s safety. Fito relents and says well, maybe not in the middle of the street - how ‘bout on the sidewalk? Johnny gives in and agrees to continue working for him, until Fito can find someone else. Fito laughs his maldito laugh and makes sure Johnny knows he’ll be working for him until he decides different.

CASA CHAVEZ: Armando’s excited about a conversation he had with Amadeo about savings. He hopes to one day save enough so they can buy their own home. Refugio actually likes the idea. Wow, she actually agrees? Pati arrives saying Johnny’s held up somewhere and she talks about her ongoing sewing lessons.

HECTOR AND JUANA are in a restaurant discussing the Aurora/Vanessa situation. He’s not in agreement that Juana stay away from his house. She has every right to be there, not Vanessa. Juana, being the docile person that she is, says it’s because Vanessa is her mother. He repeats she lost all her rights when she left 20 years ago. Juana tries to get him to understand it’s for Aurora’s own good. She’s regained her mother and she’s afraid of losing her again. He’s amazed by Juana. Instead of Vanessa sacrificing herself for her daughter, it’s Juana who’s doing all the sacrificing. Juana feels it’s what’s right. Now if it were only a question of dealing with Vanessa, “otro gallo nos cantara” (that would be another rooster’s song). He’s really taken by her sensitivity. He promises her he has no feelings for his ex. He’ll be moving to a hotel or to Hernan’s until they marry. If it were up to him, they’d marry today. He kisses her hand.

CASA ALCAZAR: Vanessa’s on the phone with the mysterious “mi amor”, telling him/her that she managed to stay in the house but Hector’s moved out. She’ll find a way to get him to move back in. She has to hang up and hurriedly stashes the cell behind the sofa cushion as Aurora walks in (looking like a schoolgirl, I might add. Looks like my Catholic high school uniform sans the boots). She confronts her about kissing Hector on the mouth as both Hector and Juana said. Vanessa says she has no reason to lie (choke). Aurora’s so worried because it’s so clear to her Vanessa still loves Hector. Vanessa lays it on thick, saying not only is her heart breaking, but also all her dreams that they could be a family once again. Aurora wishes things had been different. Not to worry, says Vanessa. They’ve lost the battle not the war. She knows Aurora can convince Hector to return home and she promises she won’t go near him again.

CASA BARRERA: Arturo’s had a rough day dealing with Saenz. Teresa tells him not to worry, it’s only another client. He comes clean with her, telling her he’s not just another client. He’s Saenz’ aval (there’s that word again, meaning bank guarantee). He spells it out for her (and me) that if Saenz were to renege on his loans, Arturo would be responsible. Teresa is speechless….and she wants an explanation, as do I. Saenz was helpful when Arturo exonerated his father and recaptured his inheritance. Saenz had some great business dealings and Arturo financed his first two ventures and they had great profits. Later he became his aval. She knows he’s a great lawyer and he won’t lose this case. He can’t, he’d lose everything. She takes this moment to tell him Mariano lives in the same complex as Fernando. Yeah, kick him when he’s down. Arturo reacts as expected and asks Teresa to visit Fer/Luisa as little as possible. She assures him that if she meets up with Mariano, she will not pay him any attention. Juana arrives just then.

CASA ALCAZAR (AKA musical suitcases): Now it’s Hector’s turn to have his suitcases ready. Aurora pleads with him not to leave. He has to do it for Juana’s sake. Hector promises to see her every day at the hospital and whenever she wants as long as it’s not here. Mariano arrives as they’re saying their good-byes. Aurora explains. She tells him Hector and Juana are adamant Vanessa kissed him on the lips while Vanessa insists she kissed him on the cheek. Mariano can’t believe Hector would lie and Aurora feels her mother has no reason to lie. Mariano feels it’s a good idea they not live under the same roof (techo). Vanessa comes in welcoming Mariano and saying how much she wants to get to know Aurorita’s little friends. She’s happy he can join them for dinner. He asks if he can invite his novia, Aida to join them. Sure, why not.

CASA BARRERA: Juana has told Teresa about the goings on at Casa Alcazar. They’re both convinced Vanessa wants Hector back. Teresa doesn’t agree with Juana’s agreement to stay away. She should make it very clear to Vanessa that Juana’s the new woman in Hector’s life. Teresa reminds her of a dicho: “El hombre es fuego, la mujer estopa. Llega el Diablo y le sopla.” (literal: Man is Fire, Woman is tow/coarse cloth, then the devil comes to blow on them and POOF! Spontaneous combustion!) In other words, don’t let Vanessa get her hands on him or there may be FIRE!. Not everyone is like you, Teresa although we could say that she and Vanessssa are made from the same cloth. Anyway, Juana’s convinced Hector won’t go back to VAnessa because he no longer loves her. Teresa knows Vanessa will try to snatch him, she knows the type (yeah, look in the mirror). Juana is resigned to the situation. She couldn’t allow Aurora to move out, it would break his heart. Teresa is frustrated that Juana always puts others before herself. She needs to show more pride. Vanessa must be full of herself right about now but Juana needs to show her she’s just won one battle. Juana whines she doesn’t want to fight, she just wants to continue seeing Hector. Teresa says it doesn’t appear that way since she leaves him where temptation will find him. Just then the maid announces a visitor for Juana. It’s Hector, my roly-poly prince! He’s come by to tell Juana that he’s moved in with Hernan.

CASA ALCAZAR: Hola, hola, AEEEEEEEEDA’S arrived! She immediately asks after the good doctor. After an uncomfortable pause, Vanessa admits he left after she had a disagreement with Juana. “HE PREFERS LA MADRINA DE TERESA!?”, Aeeeeeda screeches. Vanessa hadn’t realized she was Teresa’s godmother.

CHEZ JOHNNY/PATI He’s arrived home and she proudly shows him the shirt she’s made him. He’s muy deprimido. He tells her he won’t be driving the taxi tonight because he wants to spend the evening with her. He wants this to be an unforgettable evening. He pulls her to him and we see he’s very sad.

THE FOLLOWING MORNING AT GRUMPY GRAMPS NEIGHBORHOOD: Johnny has come looking for Granpa. Aw, he’s going to sacrifice himself! He tells Gramps he was right, he never should have married Pati and asks if he’ll take her back or send her to Puebla with her parents. Gramps is bulging-eyes-IMPACTADO!

OUTDOOR CAFÉ: We finally meet Vanesssssa’s amor - Hugo! She runs to greet him and they embrace and kiss. They can’t keep their hands off each other as they express how much they’ve longed to be together. They finally sit and he gets to business, asking if she’s managed to get the money from her husband. She tells him it hasn’t been as easy as she had thought, there’s a tipa around that has complicated things. He’ll need to be patient. He complains she promised she’d have the money by now. How much longer is he supposed to wait? He’s desperate for money or he won’t be able to pay the rent and they won’t have a place to live. She promises to do whatever is necessary to get him the money he needs. Holy Gigolo! He knows she’ll do what’s necessary but “de amor no come” (love doesn’t feed you) If he doesn’t get that money, he’ll have to move away from here and neither of them want that. She begs him to be patient. He tells her he can’t go on living like this without a single peso, worried about everything. She gives him some money Aurora gave her and promises there will be more. He shouldn’t want for anything and she doesn’t want him to worry. They start making out at the table as he tells her he wants her body and her caresses (acaricias). He pulls away from her and checks out the money she gave him, telling her everything is going well.

GRUMPY GRAMPS calls Johnny un desgraciado! Now that he’s had his way with his granddaughter he wants her to move back?! Johnny says he’s doing this for Pati’s own good. Granpa says he should’ve thought of that before he took her. Johnny swears if he had known things would turn out this way, he never would have taken her. Granpa wonders if Johnny has the nerve to think he can bring her back and live with them. Johnny only wants her to be safe and protected. Granpa counters by saying she was already safe and secure before he showed up in her life. Infeliz! He accuses him of never having loved her. He shoves Johnny aside as he walks away.

CASA BARRERA: Tere’s on Arturo’s lap and he tells her he needs to get back to work on the Saenz case. He tells her she can help by taking on a new client whose husband divorced her without notification (gee, wonder who?). He explains she married for community property and now wants to take half of everything her husband owns. DOORBELL! Teresa goes to greet the new “client” and smiles her sharky smile as the Cobra-Haired Vanessa slithers in. Good thing Teresa speaks parseltongue! [shoutout to Harry Potter fans] “So, you’re the one who wants to take half of everything from Aurora’s father!” Vanessa checks out the house and Teresa confirms that, yes, this is her home. Obviously Aurora didn’t tell her she was married to Arturo de la Barrera. Vanessa says she’s here to see Licenciado Barrera because Hector divorced her without notification. Teresa points out he had every right to do so since she disappeared for so many years. She’s surprised the good doctor waited so long to move on. At least until he met her madrina. Vanessa struggles to contain herself as she says she wanted to talk to an attorney to see if she is entitled to anything after being married for so many years. (never mind she was gone for most of them). Teresa assures her she knows exactly why she’s here. Vanessa thinks it’s best she find another attorney because of Teresa’s friendship with Aurora. Maybe she’ll talk it over with Hector. Teresa tells her, “Please, don’t play the innocent. You’re in it for the money, to see what you can get. It’s no use denying it. We both know that’s the truth. I’ll tell you right now that you won’t get anything because it was my husband who managed Hector’s divorce.” Arturo walks down and introduces himself to la Señora Coronel, who seems to be in shock. Teresa recaps what he told her earlier, that this woman wanted to know how much money she can get from her ex-marido and she told her that she won’t get anything through them because she’s Aurora’s mother! Duhn-duhn-DUHNN. Arturo’s impactado. He repeats what Teresa’s already told her. Neither of them will take her case.

CASA JOHNNY/PATI: Johnny arrives home to find a package waiting for him from Gemma. Pati’s so happy, thinking it’s some kind of bonus. They open the package and find various food items. Pati reads the attached card: “Just so you’ll know we’re thinking of you and especially your wife.” Johnny is frantic and sweeps everything from the table, frightening Pati. He yells at her, telling her he doesn’t want her there, it was a mistake to get married. She doesn’t understand, they were so happy this morning. He shoves her away telling her he’s no longer happy. She should go back to her granpa, they were wrong to marry.

CASA CHAVEZ: Pati has gone to cry on Refugio’s shoulder. She doesn’t understand how he could have changed so much from one day to the next. Refugio’s at a loss to understand it after they worked so hard to be together. Pati wonders if it may have to do with working so hard to support her and Espe. Refugio doesn’t understand either but reminds her they all told her marriage wasn’t easy and that they had to trust each other. Pati’s so confused, if only he’d tell her what is going on.

Later, Pati is crying at the shrine to La Virgen de Guadalupe. Refugio wants to know what happened, did they argue? Pati says no, it came on suddenly. She doesn’t know where he is now and doesn’t know if he’ll return. She prays to La Virgen that he'll return.

CASA BARRERA: Arturo and Teresa are talking, rather she’s talking about Vanessa and what a sinvergüenza (shameless) she is. Arturo has no doubt about that. When she called him she was very clear she wanted to fight for half of all his assets (bienes). Teresa declares this is el colmo! (the end). This is all out of proportion, she abandoned her husband and daughter with no thought to how she would suffer. Arturo feels for Aurora but feels it’s best to tell her what’s happened because Vanessssa is sure to find another attorney. It’s clear to Teresa that Vanessa never wanted Aurora. Juana has come downstairs and has heard Teresa. She wants to know why she thinks that.

Outside, Vanessa gets into Hugo’s waiting car and tells him she’s in a fix. The recommended attorney turns out to be the same one that fixed Hectors divorce! She pleads with him not to be angry. (uh-oh, this guy’s starting to scare me now) It’s just that the idiota friend of Aurora turns out to be the attorney’s wife. He wouldn’t believe all the things she said and is sure to repeat everything to Aurora, including the part that Vanessa is after half of Hector’s assets. Hugo starts to get really ugly. He literally bares his teeth as he admonishes her for being so stupid. She pleads with him not to say that and swears she’ll find a way to get that money.

CASA BARRERA: Arturo and Tere have told Juana the story. She can’t believe Vanessa can be so desalmada (soulless, merciless). To think she’s come after money when she could be by the side of such a sweet, marvelous daughter. Tere can’t help being jealous and notes how much Juana seems to love Aurora. Juana can’t help herself, Aurora’s so sweet, so tender. This is going to really hurt her. Arturo says they can’t keep this from her. Juana thinks they should tell Hector first. They all decide it would be best for him to decide what’s best for his daughter. Tere notes the time and reminds Arturo of his dealings with Saenz. Before he leaves, she tells him he must win that case, no matter what!

Out in the car: Oh brother! Hugo tells Vanesssssa he’s desperate. He can’t work just anywhere. He’s an artist! He needs calmness. He needs inspiration during this “creative crisis”. She understands and knows she’ll come up with something. Hugo tells her she has to or he’ll have to leave and the last thing he wants is to be separated from her. She begs him not to say that. He wonders if her daughter can help her with something, or perhaps her ex would be willing to pay her a good sum to keep her away from his daughter. She agrees to everything as he kisses her. EEEEEEW – a slimy, weasely gigolo!

CASA BARRERA: Juana asks Tere about the Saenz case. Tere tells her about Arturo being Saenz’ alva (there it is again!) I’m glad to see that Juana doesn’t know what this is either. Anyway, Tere explains that if Saenz were to be jailed, Arturo would be responsible for all his debts, in the millions. She’s angustiada (distressed, anguished) about this. He stands to lose a major part of his money and she can’t permit that to happen! Juana advises her to stand by her man. She’ll see that he’ll win. Juana’s off to see Hector. Teresa feels it’s best she be the one to tell him about Vanessa. To think that woman was trying to get between them. Teresa’s left alone to think. She must take precautions (prevenir) and protect herself from all sides. Cue the Jaws Theme. If Arturo loses, she needs to have a stash somewhere else and it doesn’t matter who is sacrificed.

CASA DE GENOVEVA: She’s giving Ruben a backrub and says she would love to tell everyone that they’re a couple and are very happy together. He says he’d like to do the same but, sigh, she knows that’s impossible. She then asks how his divorce is coming along. He asks if she’s now going to insist that he marry her. She denies this. He explains he’s prolonging the divorce proceedings to buy time so he can re-organize Mayra’s businesses. He needs time and money. She suggests he hurry because if Mayra or Aida find out about the fraud, they won’t forgive him. He agrees. As it is, they won’t forgive him because Esperanza is having his baby. OUR baby, she corrects him. That baby will be theirs. Once it’s born they need only to snatch him from her arms. He tells her to stop insisting on that. He’ll talk to Esperanza about giving him the baby but first he needs to return Mayra’s money to avoid any risks. Geno knows Espe won’t give up that baby so they may as well start thinking of how they’ll get him. Ruben looks at her as though he’s just realizing what a crazy a$$ b!tch he’s gotten involved with.

EL CLUB: Aurora, in a not so friendly tone, asks why Teresa has asked to meet her there. Teresa’s hurt by her attitude and tells her she really does care for her. Aurora’s told her in the past that she’s insincere but she’s wrong and she may not like what she’s about to tell her. She asks if Aurora trusts her mother. Absolutely, says Aurora, and doesn’t understand why she’s asking. Teresa says she hesitated to tell her this but she put herself in Aurora’s place and decided she would want her friends to be honest with her. She begins by telling her that when her mother reappeared, she thought it was because of her. In reality, she’s returned to fight Hector for money and demand (exigir) what she feels is owed her as a result of the divorce. Aurora is muy, muy impactada.

Wow - so much happened tonight!

Does anyone remember if Arturo and Tere signed a pre-nup? He's so careful to advise Fernando to get a prenup yet I don't recall them talking about this when he and Tere were married.

What are the odds on Pati being preggers?

And isn't that Hugo one slimy sleazeball? ugh! This can get really scary. Clearly, he's using Vanessa to get his hands on some cash. Wonder if he's the same guy she left Hector for? I doubt it. I wonder if Vanessa will end up being the victim of abuse by this creep. He's scary and she's sooooo under his spell.

ooooooh previews show the law catching up to Ruben. Loved the look on his face. Hope this takes place Monday!

Have a great weekend everyone! Mine started off lousy. Dodgers had yet another miserable loss tonight. :(

We just caught the last bit and the previews last night -- my husband took one look at Ruben and knew he was a sinverguenza. Apparently, the pornstache says it all.

Frances, you did a wonderful job on an episode with several unusual expressions and a completely new word....aval. Thanks for all your great translations and a fun recap.

On a Teresa/Arturo prenup, I don't think Teresa signed one, but Arturo did some important estate planning at the time of the wedding. It seems that Arturo's estate is arranged in a way that his future children will receive the lion's share of his bienes and Teresa would get only a prearranged "comfortable" amount. The way it was briefly described made it seem as though Arturo's money is protected from divorce or death by pre-designating what goes where. It might be that someone else has clarifications on this as well. Speaking of prenups, it was a little strange to see Arturo advising Fer to protect his assets from his SISTER with a prenup.....thanks big bro for that one!!!

Aurora is getting on my last nerve, her behavior is ridiculous!

When our Sharkita takes on one of the bad guys I feel as though one of those ice road truckers is driving me in my my car....I just sit back, relax and watch a real pro in action....you go Teresa!

For those who watched Amor Real, underneath our "Rolly-Polly Prince" Hector, is Sixto Valdez and ole Sixto cut quite a handsome figure dashing about Mexico about a century ago!

This is cruel of me, but even with Johnny and Paty in real danger, I still FF>> through their scenes...still can't take them!!

Teresa the Ice Road Trucker! Too funny! It is quite an experience to watch a pro in action, isn't it?

Missed some scenes last night, and you did a great job filling everything in.
Boy, that Vanessa is a piece of work. She must be as dumb as a clock to fall for that crap Hugo is shoveling out. But so glad that the truth has come out already...can't wait to see what happens next.

I mean, I fell for Baby-Doll Aurora ( those outfits are killing me), but how she thinks her father is supposed to just take mumsy back or not move out....20 YEARS girl...what don't you get about that. Your mother claims she came back hoping for a happy family. First words out of my mother would have been...20 YEARS it took you to decide that?

So Terror knows there is a potential that Art may go bust...so now do we see her slowly but surely start heading into the Fer direction? And the whole pre-nup - I don't remember there one between Terror and Art. That could prove interesting. He goes bust, so could take him for whatever assets ( house) he has left.

I still don't understand this whole "snatch the baby". Is Marya that delusional? I would hope she realizes in her dream world they would have to move very FAR away to pull that off? Do they not know about Hernan being in the picture?

Watching Rube being hand-cuffed. That'll be something fun to look forward to.

Blue Lass, there should be Teresa "pro" lessons for people who are in tough work situations dealing with sinverguenzas....

1. Stay calm
2. To their face kill them with kindness.
3. Let them hang themselves as you assist from a safe distance!
4.Quietly gloat...

Of course, Teresa's constant lying would ruin her as a work place example.

Great writeup!

No prenup on Arturo and Teresa; had there been she would have had a few tantrums and done the kind of helpless female crap that Scarlett O'Hara did but hated while doing. We'd remember that.

Pati embarazada? I'd bet on that.

Hugo is a sleaze, just as bad as Ruben but less intelligent. He and Vanesssssssa deserve each other.

Genoveva and Ruben are both completely delusional about Esperanza's baby. What I'd love to know is this (and I hope this is the next development):

What will Aida do when she finds out about Genoveva and Ruben's plans for the baby?

Most of the action lately is in the dialogue, thank you so much for including all the important conversations. Your recap really helped me get what was happening.

I think I am a little disappointed in Vanessa, she is quite outclassed by Tere the sharkita.

Tere, (who recognizes what Vanessa is, takes one to know one) is giving Juana good advice for once, but if you notice, when Juana and Hector were having dinner and Hector kisses her hand and says he wishes they could marry soon, Juana looks uncomfortable and averts her eyes. She doesn’t want to marry him. Pity.

When Mariano came in and Vanessa greeted him, he responded with a sick smile. He has a purely visceral response to her and still doesn’t trust her. Listen to your instincts, Mar!

Yeah, I think we all know who Tere’s contingency plan is. There was no prenup, but she overheard him telling Fer that everything would be left to his children only, and Tere would only get a predetermined amount. She was rather distressed. He must have used other legal means to secure his assets.

Johnny’s problem-solving abilities are indeed limited.

Paquita, thanks for the detailed recap. You made all the aval talk understandable. Must say I can't blame Teresa for coming up with a contingency plan should Arturo lose everything, but I do think she cares for him and hope she will at least try to help him not lose Saenz's case.

I'm disappointed in Vanessa too. You'd think she'd have a gigolo higher on the food chain. This guy seems like a druggy and clearly doesn't give a damn about her. Their kisses were sickening. When Aurora learns the whole truth, I can see Vanessa turning on the "poor little me" this-brute-made-me-do-it act.

Awesome recap Frances. So now that Teresa knows that Arturo could lose his fortune if he loses this case, she will definitely be eyeing Fernando as her back up plan and me thinks she will leave Arturo in the dust. She and Vanessa aren't really that different from each other.

Hugo is definitely a sleaveball and Vanessa is willing to do whatever it takes to get him the money so that they can continue to live how they have lived all this time. What a piece of work.

In the previews, Ruben gets arrested and Teresa gloats earning a slap from Aida.

Excellent write up, Frances! Very much appreciated the vocabulary. It seems like once I read it here and have heard it on the TN, it stays with me forever! Dialogue has really been key in this TN. Thank you again, Frances!!!

I especially appreciated your thorough recap as, wouldn't you know, during both CME and Teresa, I had to take phone calls! Had the telly on mute and missed just about everything!

This Hugo...my word...a scum bucket no doubt. What in the world would Vanesssa the Viper have seen in this mongrel?! He is definitely dangerous with the potential to go after our little Sharkita.

This means Tiny Terror has two dangerous men on her tail...Fito the Maldito and Mongrel Hugo.

...and Aurora! What in the world! Have you ever seen a character regress as much as this one?! She is blinded by the light bouncing off her mummy's Cobra Hair.

BlueLass: Just loved it that your husband recognised Rubes for what he is! LOL!!

I hope this Saenz character doesn't destroy Art. I dearly love our Art. He's a good man. I'm just dying to know which actor will be playing Saenz. He's bound to show up sooner or later.

Gracias, Frances!!

Susanita

Paquita such a great and awesome recap of a great episode thank you.

Sandy ita Aurora is getting on my last nerve too and when she walked in wearing a little girl outfit i was like WTF!!!! Grow up already please it's not reasonable for you to want your father back with a woman who had abandon him for twenty years.

Now we know why we kept hearing the Saenz case and why he canceled the honeymoon.or sure her back up contingency plan is Fernando.

Yes both Geno and Ruben are delusional but i think he finally is realizing how crazy Geno is. But i also think he plans on dumping Geno and going after Espe to comeback to him.

Last night showed this is why i love Teresa when she is not lying and manipulating and using others to get ahead but. Exposing and confronting someone like Vanessa that is definitely must see TV.Game recognizes game. Match set point and game Team Teresa boy was i cheering and LOL at how she set Vanessa straight on what she was really there for.

Yeah lazy Hugo looks like bad news.

Cheers for Teresa again for going to Aurora and now opening her eyes to what her mother's return is really all about. Someone has to snatch off this bandaid and force Aurora to grow up. only drawback is Teresa not realizing this is what she'll become 20 years later herself if she doesn't stop her nonsense and going down the same path.

Key subtle scene when Mariano visits Aurora and invites his banshee. When screechy can't believe that Hector chose Juana over Vanessa. The look on Mariano's face says this won't last.

Previews Ruben gets arrested fun times folks. Teresa enjoys his downfall and lets Aeeeeeeeeeeda know it too. Of course the psycho harpy can't deal wi9th it and hauls off and slaps Teresa. My question all of those years she verbally abused and taunted Teresa in the same way but we never saw Teresa respond back and get physical why is it ok for this suppose high society young lady to continue to act like this? There's that old saying if you can't dish it out then don't start it.

Does anyone think Teresa can be rehabilitated? Notice that I did not say 'redeemed'.

Blusam: Agree with your points on Tiny Terror when she confronts people like Vanessa the Viper. Very good points you made there.

Susanita

Yep, Blu. Aida has been physically abusing people like Mommy does but is worse. She slaps, hits, throws bleach and manhandles the sick. A night in the slammer and picking up trash along the freeway might do her some good.

Martin needs to return to help poor Aurora. Maybe he can reason with her because she isn't listening to anyone else about Mommy Dearest. Well, hopefully, maybe Teresa's latest info will convince her. Aurora and her Mom are both foolish regarding love. Hugo has gigolo written all over him. I'm disappointed since I thought he'd have a bit more class or magnetism. Hugo or Hector.. it isn't even a contest.

Love how Tere can lie her way out of any situation. Well, she's smart and has had a lot of practice and Luisa is pretty gullible and too trusting.

How many more episodes are left, anyone?

GinCA

Frances thanks for your great recap and giving us the info on aval.

ITA with you Blu regarding Aida and Mariano. We also get clues he's not totally in b/c he hasn't told her te amo. He like Aida but knows this isn't the type of relationship he really wants (as Sharkbait said, it's just sex...well maybe a bit more). And Aida keeps on with this class thing in ways that show she and Mariano can't stay together; her hatred of Teresa makes her insane on all things regarding the hood.

That's why I think when he and Aurora have matured enough to be together, he'll realize he can be in love w/Aurora and she'll cherish him like Teresa never did.

Susanita, I think Teresa could change but the key would be her learning to be less selfish. Can that be un-learned as an adult?

Sharkbait, thanks for your wonderful recap as well. It's fun to have male perspective

Paquita, sorry for not mentioning your wonderful recap and thanks for explaining the aval. Chuckles with your "Holy Gigolo" comment.

GinCA

So many great comments today that I have nothing to add. Wonderful recap Frances! And thanks for the extra vocab and explanations of terms.

Loved Teresa cutting Vanessa down. This is when she's at her "best." Vanessa's gigalo was indeed a disappointment, but I gues it just shows that even the best player eventually gets played, especially when they have passed their prime like Vanessa has.

I am also glad that Teresa is going to tell it to Auroro straight, instead of letting everyone baby her by hiding Vanessa's money grubbing ways. I know Teresa's doing it for totally selfish reasons (to get back at Vanessa for her insults; to tear everyone's sweetheart Aurorita down a bit; and just some good old fashioned mischief-making), but I am totally behind her.

GinCA, there are 152 episodes total, so we are only about 2/3 through -- hooray!

rmando’s excited about a conversation he had with Amadeo about savings. He hopes to one day save enough so they can buy their own home. Refugio actually likes the idea. Wow, she actually agrees?
------------------------

How old are Armando & Refugio? 50ish? They just now thinking of saving up and getting a house?

I guess better late than never.

I don't think they had enough money left each month to save before this job. Remember, they were in debt to Jema. Most of the urban poor can't afford to save and buy a house.

The way it sounds, it sounds like Armando's just now finding out about the joy of savings from Amadeo.

Thanks, Blue Lass, 50 to go. I like the shorter novelas since we have to endure less filler and incredulous plotlines. Am loving Teresa except for Paty/Johnny and Buttberto but like Paty's optimistic personality.

GinCA

Vivi you are so right i did enjoy Teresa cutting down Vanessa and as you listed those are probably her reasons for telling Aurora but heck someone needs to set Aurora straight.

As much as i do love Aurora i can't stand how she has reverted back to being a little girl glad to be in the company of her dearly loved mother. The problem with this reasoning of hers her mother didn't return until after being gone for twenty years.

In what law would grant Vanessa half of Hector's assets after abandoning him and her child for twenty years? He had every right to divorce her and he did try unsuccessfully to find her.

GinCA only a night in the slammer with the insane harpy? How about a year and hard labor with Mexico's finest in the carcel?

Karen i've been picking up the subtle differences in Mariano's response when Aeeeeeeeeda tells him she loves him. His response i care for you. Mariano let's move in together. Mariano i'm not ready to make that type of commitment.Mariano i want you to stop being friends with Espe. Mariano i have always been her friend and that's not going to stop because your father was equally wrong in the affair too.I can't stand Teresa it's her fault for everything "rant" excessive screechy "rant". Mariano no Aeeeeeeeeeda even though Teresa and i are no longer together she is not to blame for everything that has befallen your family.

Yeah i can see exactly where this relationship is headed.

I don't think Teresa can change unless she has a major life-altering experience. While I will enjoy watching her take Vanessa down, I will equally love watching Oriana chew her up.

UA: I agree. I have been thinking along the same lines. The death of her sister changed her life, but not in the most positive of ways. Lack of money was the source of all of her problems and money and status have become her focus.

I'm still not sure that she feels true compassion or love for anyone. As Anon207 said last week, she doesn't love Mariano, either.

What is the focus of her life now?

Is it merely self gratification?

Susanita

Karen: Teresa is, indeed, very selfish and getting worse by the minute. I suppose any change in her behaviours would depend upon how much she wanted to change.

She is definitely a complex character.

Susanita

Self-gratification and then self-aggrandizement. After the repeated insults by Oriana this will be her focus. Even if she has to work.

Which she will once Arturo either loses his money or wises up to her.

GinCA, is this a long TN or a short one? I have little basis of comparison -- the last one I watched was "Cristal" in the 80s.

Anon207, Ruben is 50-ish. Refugio and Armando are 65-ish. (I'm 50-ish myself, and all I could think when you said that was OMG, I hope I don't look as clapped-out as Refugio...)

I was wondering also what constitutes a "long" TN verses a "short" one. Are they getting shorter? Because TDA seems interminable.

You guys are so funny about TDA. I am certainly not tempted! In any case, it looks as if it has 176 episodes, which does seem like a lot...but it's winding down, right?

(Hope that's not considered a spoiler -- I do try to be careful!)

It's BEEN winding down for months.

UA: Excellent points!

As I've said before, I'm interested in what finally happens to Teresa, but it honestly doesn't matter whether it is good or bad. I don't like or dislike her. One would think that with all of her schemes, etc that I would feel one way or the other, but I don't. Maybe I will feel differently come the Gran Fin.

What is more interesting to me is Art's response to her once he finds out what she really is. Will he be so angry that he can't see straight or will he get so depressed he resorts to drink again?

I hope it is anger, because he could channel that into a new life for himself. Not so with the drinking.

BlueLass: TdA got derailed somewhere in midstream. I was with it from the beginning. It just seems hopelessly lost to me. As Variopinta always says: this basura needs to end now! Sad, though, as it had such potential. The TN regulars and experts on this blog could better answer this, but I am guessing that TdA now has no resemblance to its previous incarnation of EPdA.

UA...what sayest thou on that point?

Susanita

Mariano is lazy when it comes to love. There are plenty of gorgeous and good gals out there. He lets Teresa repeatedly humiliate him until finally Aida pushes her way into his life. She's no prize, but she's easy...
jb

I will post the comparison to EPDA after the finale because I don't want to accidentally post spoilers. I finished the series online last week because I was bored with everything else I should have been doing. The only comparative point I will post right now is that TdA is 176 episodes while EPDA was 155. IMDB lists Cristal (1985) as 246 one-hour episodes. Is this correct?

As to the general issue of novela length, Televisa's have been getting longer. I think that the reason for this is economic: If Televisa routinely produces 1500 hours of novela programming annually, it's less expensive to produce 10 series of 150 episodes each than to produce 15 series of 100 episodes each.

I also suspect that the average length of a novela may vary by country and by network. Telemundo tries to keep theirs at 130 episodes each, but LRDS could not be inflated to that length and PdG needed to be longer (although at 192 hours it was probably about 25 episodes too long).

Hombres de Honor, which is from Argentina, is listed on its Wikipedia page as 150 episodes. I have no idea if this is average for Argentina, but I will sure miss that one when it's over.

Fantastic recap Paquita!

I'm glad Teresa told Aurora what her mother was planning. I actually think their friendship wasn't a bad thing and Teresa's personlity was good for Aurora and Aurora would have been truly good for Teresa if Mariano wasn't in the middle. Unfortunately, that puts Teresa on competition mode.

Teresa is 150 episodes. The lenght of novelas has been steadily growing with time. The original Teresa was 50 episodes of half an hour and the 1989 version is shorter than this one too but I don't remember how many episodes it was. I don't have a problem with the lenght of novelas being bigger as long as the writers don't strain the plots (like in STuD) or add stupidity (like ENDA or worse: TDA). I think it's easier to add lenght to comic novelas (Gancho was still quite funny by episode 170) but those also get tiring.

My main issue with the upcoming La Fuerza del Destino is that they went through their storylines too quickly so they lost the focus they had. If they had done things in a slower manner then I think that novela could have become a classic because the begining is simply fantastic but the good thing is that it was short enough to stop it from turning awful.

Jarocha

Cristal was very long, although as usual I came in in the middle. I liked the nice, crisp Venezuelan accents. Ideally, I'd like my students to watch a Venezuelan TN, but I'm not sure there are any available on DVD.

Does anyone know when La F del D is starting? It looks like it might be good.

It's still amazing to me that Cristal was so long. What could they have possibly needed to cover in so many episodes? Just looking at the first few episodes that I found online, it seems that the pace of it was the same as the beginning of TDA. And if there was so much source material from the original, why couldn't TDA pull from that instead of adding so much stupid filler? Hmmm...

Novelas that are 100-130 episodes feel like a better length than the much longer ones. Any longer than that and then caps 110 on are just filler until the last two weeks. Which can be annoying for the audience. But I can understand that it's cheaper to make fewer, but longer, novelas. And by the time the audience has stuck with you for 100 caps, they want to stay with it till the bitter-sweet end, especially if those first 75 or so episodes were really good. That's why TDA has not grabbed me so much and why I care so little about any of the characters-- even the first 75 caps were only so so. So if El Fuerzo starts off really good, I'll be hooked, even if the story has petered out a bit by the end. I have the same fear for CME, which has started off really well so far, but it's long. I'm sure by the end the writers will have to do some gymnastics with the plot to drag it out, since right now the action/revelations are coming pretty steadily. But I'm hooked now, so I'll be with it till the end.

Blue Lass- I think La F del D starts after TDA ends. The advertised end date of TDA is Aug 1st.

Strangely enough, the last add I saw for LaFdelD also showed an add for Una Familia con Suerte. The ad said both were starting soon. Does this mean that Uni is going back to adding another hour block to its nightly line-up? And if so, will there be a time switch of some of the shows, because I can't imagine them putting on a comedy (Familia) in the 10pm slot instead of in the usual comedy slot at 7pm, which is where CME is now. I'm not going to stress about it too much because the advertised Familia before Teresa and CME started too, and then decided not to show it for some reason. But if anyone knows anything about the new upcoming line-up, please share.

I can't see Familia in the 10PM time slot unless it's risqué, which I don't think is the case. The only thing I can think of is that CME could end up getting moved to another time slot or daypart if it's not getting the ratings Univision wants.

There have been darker novelas at 7PM, but they were moved there after establishing themselves at later hours.

What I also don't see is half-hour episodes. TV viewers in the US tend to prefer drama in one-hour doses vs half an hour.

Frances: Good, catchy title and you had El Gigolo nailed! "Good thing Teresa speaks parseltongue!" I did a double-take on parseltongue! LOL!! Good one! Appreciated as well the explanation around the estopa/sopla dicho. Sometimes those sayings take a lot of digging to find.
===========

SandyTN: Ice Road Truckers! LOL! Ab-Fab analogy, amiga! It is a thing of beauty watching Tere tell it like it is, especially from a legal point of view. I hope we get to see her in an actual trial situation winning a case and saving the day.

I also liked your 4-step program for dealing with sinverguenzas.
=============

For what it's worth, I believe I saw an ad for LFdD last week stating a start date of 8/2 because I remembering wondering about what day that would be.
=============
Did anyone else catch Fito repeating to Johnny what Team Tere's been saying all along about druggies OD-ing? Something like they don't have to buy what we sell so they're to blame, not the dealers? I know there's a moral fine point in there somewhere when we discuss Tere's interaction with Paulo vs. Fito plying his trade on any and all who might come into his web willingly.

Paquita, Fantastically Fabulous Recap - I needed to confirm several conversations. Thanks again for your hard work on this.

Sandy and others, I agree totally with regard to the pathetic way
the writers are forcing Aurora to behave and dress. Indeed! a well educated doctor, now regressing to this point. That school girl outfit was sadly remarkable.

I can stop watching novelas if I don't enjoy them anymore, in fact, there are very few novelas I actually finish. I usually give most a chance and then drop them later, TDA never grabbed me because I wasn't a fan of EPDA so a bad versión of it sounded less than enthralling. I also hate this tendency to give Victoria Ruffo characteres that were played by strong character actresses (Helena Rojo, Angelica Aragón, Delia Casanova) and her playing those roles as she does her lloronas.

With Teresa, I started watching halfway through because it was on at 6, too early for me, but the buzz was so strong and everybody was watching it so I had to check it out. Later, I watched the whole novela on the internet.

Jarocha

Jardinera- I did hear Fito's Teresa-like moral reasoning about drug dealing. But those two have always been more alike than Teresa likes to admit.

Urban- I think CME is doing pretty well for a 7pm show. (It did really well in Mex, better than STUD, and broke records in Argentina.) But if a comedy appears in the line up, I agree that CME will likely be moved from the 7pm timeslot. Although this did not happen when the VERY dark Mi Pecado was on at 7, followed by the very light comedy Dinero. I can't predict what Uni will do anymore.

In case anyone is interested, Wednesday at noon EST begins Hasta Que La Plata Nos Separe. It replaces FELS, whose villains bit the dust about 30 minutes ago (The Royal Wedding is tomorrow).

As to comedy vs drama in the 7PM timeslot, my opinion is that a new program will be given the 8PM start time to give it a good launch while a program with an established audience will get moved to 7PM on the assumption that its audience will follow it. They did this three times I can recall.

It's also possible that Familia could end up on the weekends, since they haven't yet provided a start date.

I checked Univision listings in Cleveland through most of August, and though it's no guarantee with Univision's tendency to play roulette with their shows, the lineup is CME/Teresa/El F during the 7-10pm EST slot. Hope it stays that way. Would hate to start seeing some of the garbage the station brain trust was doing earlier in the year. No more two hour marathons either. Let's give our poor recappers a break!!

I just got back from downtown and saw that the Mexican version of John Pielmeier's play "Agnes of God" with Raquel Olmedo, Angelique Boyer and Jaqueline Andere is showing tonight here in Veracruz, so I bought a ticket. I'll see it tonight and comment on it tommorrow.

Jarocha

Wonderful movie, so I'll be interested to know what you thought!
