Cuando Me Enamoro #162 Wednesday 12/7/11 Gema pulls out the rules of the game, Berta's bad day, Nata and Jero argue re Marina leaving‏

RECAP BY MARTA IVETT

Repeats:
Prissy telling Carlos she wants to be part of the solution, not the problem. (LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIAR)
Marina arrives to tell Saul she won’t accept his proposed plan but she will accept his help, she wants them to make everyone believe she is leaving with him, she has to leave town. Saul agrees to the terms. He tells her she will see that when she leaves she will feel free… She believes at least she won’t be constantly tortured watching Jero and Nata, and knowing Jero is not for her. Saul says she will finally realize her hopes with Jero were not real and she will have a different life. She says she always had the truth from Jero, that he wanted to be close because of the kids, not because he felt any love for her. She has to think of doing what is best for herself. If she is well, her kids will also be. She wants to leave right away. When can we leave? Whenever you want. Then we will leave in the weekend.

Augie walks up to Renata and Antonio while they are doing the prints with the kids.
Augie fakes having just learned Jero was freed. She is glad he knows already. She tells him Jero was there (in jail) because Augie wanted to clear his name, and hurt many people while at it. Augie fakes remorse. But his conscience is clear. People don’t forgive you for being successful. But time does put everyone in their rightful place. (Jero walks up to them as he finishes this line).. Jero happily says he is surprised, he never thought he would agree with Augie on anything, but yes, he agrees that time puts everyone in their rightful place. Jero is kissy kissy with Nata right on Augie’s face. He even invites Augie to their wedding this weekend. Augie nods faking being happy but we all can tell he is about to have an internal combustion accident. Jero rubs it in saying the whole family is very happy for them and that the church marriage was not annulled. Augie’s parting words: ‘I am so glad you will be together until death do you part… excuse me, I have things to do’. Jero throws in one last bit ‘glad to see you!’ (LOL) Once Augie leaves, Nata rats a little at Jero for being so bad. Jero says he just wanted to show Augie how happy they are together. Antonio joins the happy couple. A whole lot of kids arrive to be next in saving their fingerprints…

At LaB, Carlos is thanking Prissy for doing this favor for him (leaving LaB and will continue working ). She offers a ‘desinteresado’(no interest on her part) advice (yeah right). Prissy tries to convince Charlie to not marry Mati. She claims she is doing it for his sake. Will he withstand that Mati control his life at her leisure? Carlos says Mati was not like this before. She claims it was because Mati did not have to face women who would be close to Carlos. IT would be difficult for him to have women friends or work with women. Mati’s jealousy and insecurities will be torturing him always.

Jero congratulates Antonio on his idea for how to get Nata’s fingerprints. Antonio tells Jero he got the prints from Nata and he will continue with the idea of the campaign to register the prints of all the kids in the town. He will send Nata’s fingerprints to Isidro right away.

Carlos goes to talk to Mati… he says ‘you must be happy, she is leaving the hacienda’. Carlos defends Prissy saying she was the rational one. She stopped this absurd situation. This time you won, but I won’t let you decide who can be my female friend or female coworker. Mati keeps ratting that he never let her know Prissy was his girlfriend. Carlos says ok that’s true but I have not given you one reason to doubt my love. SO I will say it one more time. I won’t let you and your assumptions affect my job. So stop it or, as you say, we are through (‘hasta aqui llegamos’).
At church, Marina tells Padre Seve that she is leaving with Saul. He goes beserk. You can’t be serious! Yes I am and please respect my decision. Saul’s support and company is what I need. PS says how can you trust a man who betrayed you and made you suffer so? He has changed! Everyone deserves a 2nd chance and I am giving it to Saul.
M: Uncle, maybe you don’t understand because you have not lived the loneliness and despair of a couple (being in love). But Saul offers to rescue me precisely from that.
PS: We are never alone, we have God! And what a huge mistake to seek refuge in another’s arms for loneliness and despair.
M: Sorry but I am not changing my mind. I am leaving in the weekend and will never return here.

At MR office, it is lottery day for Berta. Adri and Matias are updating the list of accounts receivable (invoices to collect). Berta happily volunteers to make the calls.
Adri decides to use the moment to ask her what she did last night. Berta says she stayed at the house so Matt and Adri ask her if she did not go out (these two team up nicely with smirks on their faces). Berta takes the folder with the accounts receivable info and leaves. Adri tells Matias she is lying again!!

Antonio calls Isidro and tells him he will send him Renata’s prints tomorrow via a mail. Isidro is so happy. Antonio reassures him he will have them in 2 days.

Gina comes back to the center and tells Ines she did not have the heart to take Amparito from Connie right away. She gave her until the weekend to find Corina and return the baby to her. But she will also look for Corina’s location on her own to try to find her.

Padre Seve goes to see Saul at the hotel. They yell at each other, PS yells you have to leave Marina once and for all! Saul yells he does not want to be rude, but shows him the door after yelling he is noone to tell him what to do or interfere in Marina’s life. Marina and I will start a new life, no matter who is not happy with it (le pese a quien le pese).

Jero and Nata arrive home happy, but notice Carlos is very tense and anguished. He tells them Prissy left the hacienda. Nata asks if it was about Mati. Carlos says yeah. And that he hopes that now that Prissy left Mati will realize she has nothing to worry about. Nata feels bad so she leaves Jero and Carlos alone. Carlos wants to talk at his studio.
Mati is with Manuela who is telling her she was way tantrumy and selfish… you have to accept you overacted. You made a storm in a glass of water. Mati keeps repeating she felt mad that he did not tell her about having been with Prissy. Manuela is worried that Mati sees Prissy as a threat. Not for jealousy but because Mati feels unworthy next to Prissy. Everyone has their virtues, everyone is different. What he finds in you he should not find in her. Otherwise he would be with her and not with you. Chill out. Realize that you are so important to Carlos that he put you above his family. HE has shown you how much he loves you. But if you don’t feel sure of his love or of yourself, you better think again if you can be Carlos’ wife with ‘everything that he is’.

In private in Jero’s studio, Jero tells Carlos he is convinced Prissy came to shake him up. Carlos admits tha Prissy did shake him up, all the memories came back and he felt nostalgia for what they used to have. He admits he was wrong in thinking his relationship with Prissy was completely in the past. (Prissy has heard this whole conversation and is very happy)

At the fields, Augie catches up with Alfo, appologizes for the way he acted when she went to ask for the money he had offered, and offers her the money. She at first is proud enough to reject it but then ends up accepting the offer because she really needs the money. HE will send it to her with Anibal.

Padre Seve comes to LaB to ask Jero help in trying to convince Marina not to leave with Saul. Nata is present in the conversation and she is visibly irritated that Jero seems to agree that Marina cannot leave with him. When Padre Seve tells Nata who is Saul and how he broke Marina’s heart earlier, Nata says she believes that Marina’s decision must be respected. Jero insists that he has to respect Marina’s decision, but his children are at stake here. PS agrees with Jero, the kids will grow up with a ‘taur’ (ogre) beside them.
Padre keeps insisting to Jero to help him out. Jero is reluctant but ends up promising he will do what he can. Padre leaves. Nata is not happy obviously. Jero asks her what she thinks (good point in Jeros’ favor).
N: For starters, if it is true what you said, you have no right to demand or ask Marina anything.
J: IT is about my children.
N: And also hers!. If I was her, I too would leave.
J: Why?
N: Don’t you see it? She is ‘the other one’. It must not be easy at all for her to see you with me and she loves you. I understand that she wants to leave! Obviously!
J: I can’t give up on my children.
N: You are not understanding me. Who told you…
J: Lower the tone! You are asking me to give up on my children!
N: Don’t talk to me like that either. I am not asking you to give up on your children. What you need to realize is that life is not going to work out the way you expect.
J: I won’t let her go live with the wrong guy!
N: See?
J: Antonio came to tell me that PS was worried because that guy had already hurt Marina very much. Do you think I will allow a wretch to abuse my children? And I am surprised that you don’t believe the same. You lived that experience with Fina! (Nata freezes and gets instantly sad)
N: Look. If Marina already decided, I don’t think anyone should interfere in her decision.
Besides, I don’t think she is so dumb to let herself be tricked by this guy.
J: I think the problem is Marina is going through a vulnerable moment due to her pregnancy and the situation she is living.
N: I understand that. I understand the moment she is living and that you are worried about her and your children. But one thing is different than the other! IF she already decided to go, let her go!! (she leaves mad, toward bedroom, he stays there shaking his head)
At bedroom Nata is asking (God) why this is all affecting her, if the children are not to blame for anything.

Saul has come to Cruz de Amor to talk to Augie. Anibal tells him Augie is not home but Augie gets there right at that moment. Augie is not happy at all to see Saul there. And takes him to his study. Saul tells him things were going great but Padre Seve came to demand he leave Marina alone. If he continues interfering he can mess up our plan. (Anibal is listening outside the door and asks himself what plans these two are talking about). Augie suddenly puts his brain gears to work and says if the padre does whatever possible for his niece not to leave with you, that could be beneficial for us. Yes we want her to leave… but the question now is… under what conditions will she leave.

Carlos goes to the lab and Prissy asks immediately if things are calmer with Mati. (she opens up her button shirt more to make herself more provoking). He says he does not want to talk about that. She then asks if he wants to work. Ok.
Prissy puts on the seduction moves on Carlos as they are working. Meanwhile elsewhere Mati is thinking that Manuela is right, she has to trust Carlos and his love.
Back to lab, Prissy is opening the memory lane part of Carlos mind about their happy times as a couple. Carlos reminds her they had an agreement to not mix business and personal matters. Prissy says that never worked for us (putting her arms around him). Mati sees this and leaves mad. Carlos pulls Prissy’s arms from him and says ‘but now it HAS to work’. Prissy says yes, of course. Now more than ever. (but keeps on the seduction play)

At Cruz de Amor, Anibal goes back to the workout/sword room… Augie is behind him. Says he has figured Anibal likes this room. Anibal says he feels safe there. Augie asks and not in the rest of the hacienda?... Augie asks Anibal to go to La Bonita to give Alfo some money and he can use the visit to see Allison. Anibal questions how Augie changes his moods momentarily. When Saul came he was really irritated and now he is acting like nothing happened. Augie grabs a sword and says ‘au guarde!’ (sp?) puts on the sword moves on him and with a very irritated but low tone, tells Anibal ‘I don’t have to explain anything to you, but for this one time, I will do it! That man came to give me very good news. … (takes the sword from Anibal while keeping his right under Anibal’s jaw).. lets go to the study. I will give you the money.

Saul calls Marina to tell her about her uncle’s visit. But he gives her a different story about the tone in which they ‘talked’. Don’t worry I told him we are leaving together and that I am committing with you. I will help you out. It did not bother me, I agree that he should worry about you. But somehow we have to convince him that I changed and that I did it for you. Marina says she will convince PS and thanks him.

In LaB bedroom Jero comes in, Nata says she has a headache. Jero says he knows all this situation about Marina is affecting her. Nata says she is trying to understand.
J: I am worried about the children.
N: I know that. But she is their mother! And she has a right to her opinion.
J: You are right. I will take care of this.
N: I think that is good. What are you going to do?

At the office Berta goes to German’s office and is kissy-kissy. Just in time they hear that the secretary is walking Gema (his wife) to his office so they straighten up. Gema tells him in front of Berta’s face about their deal that she would give him money to invest in MR and he would dedicate much more time to her. She expects him to come through for her, not like last night when he came home very late. Berta makes her exit. Gema warns German that she does not want any new surprises, either he behaves or she takes his new toy away (LOL!!). He nods nervously like a kid given one last chance to behave.

Berta goes to her office telling herself that German is an imbecil, how can you be with that old hag? Even if she is millionaire, I don’t get how you can stand her! (he calls her cell) You wish I will answer… in your dreams! You stayed with your wife so now you keep her!... hope that you realize that I don’t want to talk to you, to see if you give me my place.. idiot!... (she sees in the paper that Diego and Selene will soon marry).. Darn them! I hope their marriage is a failure!

Jero goes to visit Marina… came to talk to you. (Antonio will hear this whole conversation from behind the wall... hmm... is this something a future priest should do?)
He tells her what he found out… he agrees with her uncle. Marina asks if he will forbid her from it. He says no, but don’t think my children should grow beside a man like that.
M: How easy(comodo) for you! You want to have your wife and the mother of your children in the same place!
J: No its not about that.
M: Then? You have the right to rebuild your life but I don’t?
J: You have the right to lead your life, but with a good man.
M: The man I chose to lead my life with will be my choice, not yours!
J: I think that is perfect! But choose the right man!
M: I thought the right guy was you. But I was wrong. Sorry, Jero. But you can’t control my life.
J: I don’t want to control your life.
M: Yes you want to. But you can’t have it all, Jero. You can’t have your wife and your children in the same place at the same time!
J: We had already talked about that, Marina.
M: Yes, and while I was recovering I accepted to be here. But I am well now. But your wife and the mother of your children cannot be together or near each other. So it is her or us! But never again together! (what an ultimatum!)

Previews:
Voiceover: you think you have seen the best? You are wrong!
We see Prissy kissing Carlos and Mati watching getting upset.
Fina tells Blanca that WE will kill Gina (Blanca seems a bit concerned)
Saul: I hope everything goes well. Augie says I told you I don’t like the word ‘hope’. Everything has to go well.
And Marina shows her claws! (your wife and I cannot be together, so it is her or us!)

Thanks so much Marta for the wonderful, detailed recap! The dialogue was really appreciated, especially the argument between Nata and Jero. The were both shooting daggers at each other with their eyes before Padre Sev even left. They had a silent argument before the real one began. LOL!

I thought it was funny that the way everyone describes Saul is EXACTLY the way someone could describe Jero and the way he treated Nata after they got married. "He tricked, deceived and hurt her, and now she's going back to him!" Nata's family and friends would have had the same cause to discourage her from going back to Jero and been just as hysterical about it. Nata also gave Marina way more credit than the men, by saying she's too smart to take up with or stay with a man who was indeed still a wretch. She wouldn't do that to her kids either.

Jero had to bring up the "F" word, Fina. Not cool dude.

I laughed when Nata and Jero came back to the hacienda singing We Wish You a Merry Christmas, in English. That was so silly and random. It can't have been in the script.

Marta: Your detailed explanation of the conversations and events is extraordinary. Above and beyond, you conveyed the swirling emotions and passions perfectly. I enjoyed every word! Your embedded vocabulary is greatly appreciated.

Prissy certainly knew what buttons to push and played on Mati's insecurities perfectly. Her well chosen words and spot on timing have certainly stirred the pot. However, Mati's misgivings are certainly not unfounded, are they? With Carlos' reluctant admittance of lingering feelings, Prissy has yet another destructive weapon in her arsenal.

Continuing credit to Nata for dealing with Marina (and the entire situation) in an adult fashion. She knows Marina would not put the children in any jeopardy. I fear the same can't be said for Marina whom it appears might try to separate her children from their father in a pathetic "her or us" scenario. Blech.

I need a healthy dose of Laz and Kari.

Thanks again Marta!

Marta, lifesaving recap and loved your dialog inserts. Was working and watching at the same time. Never works.

How much to I hate the Pris storyline? Let me count the ways. It just seems like a stupid distraction. I mean, like we don't know Mati and Carlos will wind up together and she's so stereo-typically skanky. Please, stop dragging this out.

Blanca getting worried about Fina's plans? Ok, that's rich. Could she actually get in Fina's way? Never thought I'd worry for Blanca, but she should sleep with a nightlight.

Again..Berta. C'mon, really? You gave her the whole file and then think "oh, she's lying." Hmmmm...untrustworthy person handling your money/receivables.The mind reels and the beanie is imploding.

Way too much Dr. IWon'tWearaCushionSoTheyNeedToShipMeOutForWhile last night. Actually would look forward to her taking a brief trip to parts unknown and off our screens for awhile. (Won't bode well for her and puts me on the bandwagon that she won't survive the last episode.)

Felt this was a bit of a filler-type episode. Rather bummed that most likely as everything gets really juicy next week, I'm stuck in NYC at meetings and in a hotel that doesn't offer Uni. But I know our wonderful recappers will fill in all the blanks for me.

Buenos dias, Marta! Thanks for giving us such a lovely recap to enjoy this morning. I missed out last night so the dialogue was a lifesaver.

The more I see from Gema, the more I like her. She's just the kind of character we need - someone who sees right through Berta and can definitely outsmart her.

I have such respect for Nata. She's handling the Marina problem with way more maturity than most protagonistas would. Kudos to the writers because I have no idea how this plot is shaping up to end.

Blanca looks nervous because of Fina's next plan? Ha! She can talk the talk but not walk the walk. I wouldn't put it past Fina at all to use Blanca as an accomplice and then try to kill her. In the crazy contest, Fina wins the top loca prize.

Amy

It would not surprise me if Blanca and Fina offed each other in the end. They are both sociopaths and have no limits.

Marina is some piece of work. She's not a killer but she is just as delusional as the two other locas.

How much to I hate the Pris storyline? Let me count the ways.
I could not agree more with you daisy... let this girl burn down on her own bonfire!

ITA urban. wouldnt it be nice for the two locas to off each other... sure it would!
and marina... I agree she is delusional, even more than she told Jero when he wants to have them all near him.

Hah..loved the "internal combustion accident" you though Augustin might be experiencing. Who knows?...maybe he's expire from a rage-induced stroke.

Unpleasant episode...male meddling in Marina's life (she's an adult, a doctor, for crike's sakes, and ultimately it's HER decision, just as Renata said.) And skank meddling in Carlos and Matilde's romance. Verrrry unpleasant.

Thanks also for the translation of "hasta qui llegamos" and "tahúr", Marta, as well as the key discussion. I enjoy the writing in this show, but sure hate all these anvil about to hit.

Marta: as always, thanks for the dialogue translations.

I loved how Jero was mocking Carlos as they went into the study, limping behind him.

I don’t think Auggie can separate Jero and Nata with tricks. Once they found each other again, they have worked really hard to keep communication open between them to solve any probs they have. It will take something more drastic than that (hoping it’s not a kidnapping, yawn).

Marina is showing her claws. Finally.

I feel like I'm holding my breath constantly, waiting for the big bad before the happy ending.

Robey

Marta, thank you for the most excellent recap. I truly appreciate the wonderful detail and of course your conversation translation helps to clarify things so beautifully for us.

Tonight was the night for the inconvenient women to push the buttons, eh?

Marina and Jero - I can see both their sides, but they are just so stubborn that neither wants to give an inch. Marina wants to leave forever, never to return, and then gives Jero that ultimatum? Puhleaze. She's jerking him around. Jero starts telling her where and with whom she can and cannot go? Again I say Puhleaze. I agree with those who say Marina is becoming way too inconvenient.

Gotta run and do some stuff but will comment again later.

Thanks again Marta and thank you Vivi for posting.

I'm with you JudyB. The writing is top notch -- usually -- (though not with the oh too predictable Prispants diversion) -- and the anvils are lining up.

The Priscilla story line is pulling out all the cliches -- unbuttoning her blouse, listening at the door, using the moment when the rightful amorcita is entering the room behind the galan's back to weave her arms around his neck -- we could all write this plotline.

Boy Marina did ramp it up with her ultimatum.

And Nata -- what can I say. She is handling this all so well.

I was out walking in my old neighborhood the other day and I passed a house in which a local artist lives. She is always playing with the design of her yard -- moving accessories about, setting up tableaux under the trees. Guess what she has in her yard these days? --- LARGE CONCRETE BALLS --- Has Fina been visiting Syracuse on her outings from the manicomia????

Marta Ivett:

Such a detailed recap. As always you make clear nuances in language that I simply miss. Thank you, thank you.

Vivi: I loved Renata singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas. How fun for us in Viewerville that the timing of the TN lines up with our real life holidays.

And Carlos (finally!!!) owned up to his ambivalent feelings about Prissy. Arghh! However Carlos feels, we in Viewerville know that Prissy is an unscrupulous dog who will stop at nothing to get her former man. Her first serious act was POISONING MiCharlie, for heaven's sake. She may be hot, Carlos, but let her Go!

As to Marina's ultimatum, well that is unacceptable behavior. Leave, sister, and live your life, but your children have a right to know their father and right now you are just punishing him for not choosing you.

If I were Renata I would be coldly furious at Jero's control stuff with Marina. Jero is happy and utterly charming as long as things go his way but very nasty when they don't.

Mary, I know you head the JS fan club. I like the actor too. But the character (as written and WELL acted by Soler) is deeply flawed—very selfish, histrionic and manipulative. Maybe Renata is so damaged by her upbringing that she can tolerate Jero's bad behavior. Not being in love with him, I find the character to be exasperating, even though, as Karen said, he can sure wear a white suit!

Thanks for the wonderful recap Marta and Vivi for posting both this one and LF.

Now that Marina has completely gone left (the ultimatum) I feel justified in wanting her to go away. Her behavior has moved from pitiful to mean vengance.

Diana - yes as our Carlos noted Mati has reason to be concerned about Miss Priss. She's a vicious viper after Mati's man.

EJ - Thanks for your kind words about educators the other day and ITA regarding Jero. When he pulled the "'F" word, Fina" as Vivi noted I thought that was a low blow. Moreover, he knows Fina probably isn't her mother and used it to shut her down (how could it not) and get his way -- what a jerk!

And I'm with you about his character being great when things are going well but watch out when things are not going well. I completely understand and agree with our own Carlos's antipathy for the character as he leaves a lot to be desired in a galan.

Did Marina really mean her ultimatum or was she just throwing that out there for spite?

I thought from the look on Jero's face after he mentioned Fina, that he realized he went too far. Did I interpet that wrong?

I also think Jero does do a revert to jerkiness when he doesn't get his own way, but he seems to realize it after his outbursts and tries to be reasonable. I see a slight improvement in his behavior.

I'm Perry Mason for the defense today.

Robey

Marta, I forgot to thank you for your outstanding recap. Your dialog is always so thorough and we all appreciate it. I also was glad to see your embedded vocabulary since those were the very spots where I got lost.

I actually thought that Jero had a point when he brought up Fina. Yes he knows that Nata is probably not Fina's daughter -- but his point was that he isn't trying to control Marina's right to make a decision for herself -- he is simply afraid that his twins will grow up with an uncaring, hurtful stepfather and he is bewildered that Nata wouldn't have the same fear since she knows better than anyone the pain caused by being parented by someone who mistreats you.

This world is full of fathers who have no say about the fate of their children because they are not the custodial parents. They must all feel a similar frustration.

(okay, okay, I know that I always find a way to justify Jero --such hair, such eyes, such chemisty with our beloved Nata....

Güera

Anybody else find it menacing how Augie said, until DEATH do you part to Jero and Nata?

His sword play with Ani continues to be creepy too. I'm starting more and more to believe that it will come down to a sword fight between these two at the end. Especially since Ani is sneaking around, listening to conversations, and asking questions.

I can see both points of view. I see how jerky, unreasonable and controlling Jero was being, but I also understand his fears. I think he has come a long way from the jerko he used to be. I think the arguments he and Nata have now are healthy and they both eventually try to see the other's point of view, even if they don't agree.

Robey:

With those arguments you could get a job in the Public Defender's office!

It is hard to take anything Marina says (right now) seriously. You may be right, she was just threatening, but she is so emotionally unstable that we have no real way of predicting her future behavior. That alone makes her dangerous to our beloved heroine, I would think.

I have a friend who is a specialist in post-partum depression and pyschosis. I wonder if is common for women to have a real psychosis during pregnancy. Back in the Triassic when I was pregnant I don't remember hearing much about that. I THOUGHT I was going crazy but I never successfully managed it myself.

Great catch, Karen, by you and Vivi on Jero's use of the "F" word. Such a dirty fighting trick on his part. Robey, I sure hope he was remorseful. It was a very nasty and manipulative thrust, sure to push Renata's buttons.

Thanks, Marta for such a niceely detailed recap.

I've been missing seeing Augie go jut jawed, spittle flying crazy lately. Has he been locking himself in his study fondling Nata's silhouette?

Things didn't seem to move forward as much as being raised to some other level - marching in place in an elevator.

I think that Jero is now very responsive to Nata's opinions, and thwarts himself when he sees what he has done in her eyes.

Dr. Twins+Twins is now adding a scinister, even cruel aspect to Jero's possible choices.

Nata retains the Miss Congeniality award.

Davide

I can't believe Marina really thinks that Jero would choose her over Nata and she has no right to keep him from being a part of his babies' lives, so it's a pathetic move on her part.

I had forgotten that Auggie "until death do us part" moment. Creepy.

I think Auggie does something desparate (kidnaps Nata?), Jero turns up at his place and has a sword fight with him. Somehow Auggie gets the advantage and just on the point of skewering Jero, Anibal comes to the rescue and kills him.

Robey

I hope Anibal doesn't kill Augustine. It would be too hard for him to have that on his conscience. I'd be perfectly happy for him to incapacitate Augie, who would later die of something else (much more grim).

I get Jero's frustration and concern, but he needs to accept that he can't control everything, like where Marina goes or who she associates with. He needs to stay on good terms with her, so at least he'll be able to visit his children. And it isn't like he needs to be completely cut off if she moves...he has the means to travel as often as he wishes. When the kids are older they could come stay at the hacienda during school breaks and Marina wouldn't have to join them and see Renata.

Carlos is being a total moron. How can he not see what Pris is up to? Claiming Mati won't let him ever have female friends or coworkers? Uh, no, Mati hasn't had a problem with any other women around...it's just this one who is constantly pawing him and calling him "Mi Charlie" and going on and on about how they're meant to be together and insulting Mati. See the difference, Carlos?

In that shot where Roberta was standing right next to Gema, I was struck by how alike they look. Very similar features. And then Berta was muttering about how hideous Gema is...Berta, take a look at your not-too-distant future, should you live that long.

Marta, thanks so much. I appreciate all the detail.

Hello everyone:

I knew I wanted to slap Dr. MariTorpedoTatas - and I can't believe she pulled the her or us card on Jero. Surely he won't let Nata go and keep her? Will he? I'm with Nata - let her go.

Now, I don't like the idea of anyone controlling anyone and I do understand Jero being concerned about his children - but hey Mi Jero, remember you have some rights so let her go off with Mr.Stillrollingthedice and good luck. There's no guarantees she'll find Mr. Perfect anyway.

Elna, yes I know he's been a jerk in the past I know he hasn't been perfect by a long shot, but as
Guera says, those eyes, that hair, and as Karen reminds us, the way he looks in a suit. Can we please forgive him, a little?

Love, Mary

Fabulous, Marta. Thanks!

Yep, this episode really showed that Jero wants it all his way. He wants his lovely marriage with Renata, and he still expects Marina to stay compliantly by so that he can have his kids with him too. He expects all his women to accommodate him, the padre consentido. It really doesn't occur to him that they are people too with their own feelings and that he is not, in fact, the center of the universe.

On the Don Francisco interview, Juan Soler was asked what he thought his character Jeronimo's deepest flaw was. Juan thought for a bit and then responded that Jero's deepest flaw was that he was lacking in the kind of intelligence needed to perceive what was true in the world surrounding him. Is this called situational intelligence? I'm not sure. Like before, when he was unable to percieve that Renata was in fact an honest, loving person, and that therefore other people had to be lying. Anyway, here is another good example. He is so myopic that he just doesn't get why there would always be conflict between Marina and Renata and why Marina can't just accommodate his needs as a father instead of making her own life.

Wow, but how does Marina get off being so cruel to her uncle who has supported her all this time by letting him think the worst, and then giving Jero that spiteful ultimatum!

Ugh!

Audrey

Hey, I'd accomodate him. Heh heh heh.

Nevermind.

Mary :)

Exactly, Audrey! Why does she need to hurt her loving uncle and make him worry more? Why can't she just move back to the city on her own, because she wants to, and leave Saul out of it? She's perfectly capable of buying a ticket, getting on a plane, and heading back to her old medical practice (or finding a new one) and getting herself a place to live (if she's given up her old place), isn't she?

Thanks, Marta. I always love your dialog - it fills in so much. Plus the vocab is always something I missed.

David - Marching in place in an elevator, I love word pictures and that is a doozy!

I agree that Anibal shouldn't kill Augustine, but I would cheer if he, ummm 'unmanned' him!

Wow, Emilia, You are wicked. And I agree totally.

Güera

Good thinking, Emilia. And very fitting for the rejected son to do this.

Marta, Thank you for your impressive work, your command of dialog is our weekly treat. Clearly the plot is walking in place in an elevator (thanks David). Watching Augie slowly dissolve by internal combusion and PrissPants get more disgustingly snake like with each day. Juan's diagnosis of Jero, his character, seems spot on. For being the richest man in Spain, he demonstrates that it must have been inherited or perhaps he is an idiot savant of sorts. But if you look that good in suits, wellllll, Mary, I think you named our weakness so well. We gotta cut him some extra slack for looking so good in his slacks!

Marina is beyond help, I have lost all respect for her. She seems to be having what used to be called a labial pregnancy (revolting that a woman's sexuality used to be a sure sign of her near insanity) but she hasn't acted like a smart doctor for many, many episodes. She needs an adjustment of attitutde, and maybe seeing Saul turn into his dice rolling self will snap her to. She actually thinks she can shake him once they are at the edge of town and I think he has some plans to hang on her longer. It was fun to see the Padre show some real emotion.

Pear Robe post is up!

I sure have enjoyed sitting back with an afternoon cup of tea and reading everyone's comments. They are funny and intelligent. What a great group of folks in this study group. I especially liked the comment concerning Juan Soler's interview, and his opinion on Jero's character flaw. No wonder these actors do such a good job, they really "get" their characters.

Now for more fun, I'm off to read Vivi's pear robe post. I also recall those giant horns showing up from time to time. I haven't noticed them in a while though
