Cuando Me Enamoro #159 Friday 12/2/11 With Agustín... It Was the Thought that Counts

Our Blue Flower must take the night off so you guys are stuck with grumpy old Dr. Carlos to guide you through tonight's festivities. Not to worry though, because tonight I'm joined by lovely bottle of Monte Alban Mezal, aromatic slices of a small lemon, and a tiny dish of black volcanic salt. The little worm, so far unmolested, is crouching nervously on the glass floor trying to make himself invisible... I'll get to you later little fellow.

Before I begin, allow me to welcome Mary, our latest study group member who admits to the occasional impure thought involving Juan Soler (Jerónimo Linares)... really? Juan Soler? Ummmm... OK... let's see what kind of sandwich you have there...

Renata, who was rummaging through the box of Fina's odds and ends that Regina turned over to her, is joined in Jerry's office by Manuela. Nata announces that she has a date with a newly religious reptile involving fingerprints as soon as she tidies up. Manuela, recognizing an opportunity to pry a bit, offers to take care of replacing the stuff into the box. Nata scurries off as Manuela inspects a document, "Acta de naciemiento de la niña Roberta Gamba Álvarez..." She recognizes that as Renata's sister's name. Heck, she's putting the lid on the box. Too bad it wasn't Matilde that offered to help.

Meanwhile, in his cell, Jerry is doing a little math to pass the time. He comes to the brilliant conclusion that Roberta has usurped Renata's position as Regina's daughter in order to inherit the trust fund left by Roberto for the infant Regina. Good job. But the poor guy admits that it's driving him nuts trying to figure out how Roberta was able to accomplish such a nimble feat, "Roberta, you're just not that smart."

Too bad they don't serve Honeynut Cheerios for breakfast here or he might have even thought about Fina having a role in all this.

Pris is a lady with a plan. She adds a toxic supplement to Carlos' Thermos. "Ay, mi Charlie, Sorry, but it's for your own good... and mine."

Roberta is up early depositing that check, meant for the empresa but made out in her name, into her own account. She marvels at how easy it was. Well yeah, you're doing business with idiots.

The La Bonita bunch are enjoying a moment. A smiling Alfonsina holding a disinterested Luz, has joined Manuela, Alison, Matilde, Kari , and Laz as they discuss the sudden marriage. Alison thinks there should be a honeymoon, but it all happened so fast there is no time. It's back to work. Alfonsina is going to see Augie about his promise to continue Zeke's salary. Alison offers to go along for the chance to see Aníbal.

Augie has decided to give his son some fencing lessons. Aníbal gets to wear a mask. Apparently Augie doesn't need one. The lesson doesn't last long. Augie shows him how to hold the épée, they face off, then Augie all but carves a Z on Aníbal's belly. Next!

Saúl has come by the parsonage to pick up Marina for her Dr.'s appointment. padre S must not have been advised. He offers a less than warm reception. Marina, is wearing boots that have perilously high spikey heels for a pregnant lady trying to take it easy... but they look warm. They don't need the nurse to come along. By the way, the clinic is next to the jail. Convenient.

Outside, Renata, munching a taco, meets up with Tony. They spot Marina and Saúl. Renata's curious about Saúl. Tony tells her that it's an old novio there to win Dr. Tatalicious back. Renata smiles and approves. Her cell phone rings... "Oops! Gotta go! Later!"

In Taxco Guerrero the spiffy-looking honeymooning couple, Regina and Gonzo, stroll in a lovely alleyway. They chat. He wants to take a year off and travel... maybe even take the kids. They kiss. Cute... and borrrring... next!

Ben, Julieta, and Adri are at Chema's restaurant. Ben thinks they should keep Chema's dream alive. Looks like Julieta will run the place. She'll think about it.

Say what you will about Germán, this guy doesn't waste time. He presents Roberta with keys to an apartment he's rented for her... er... uh... them. She'd rather own it. All in good time my dear.

Isidro and Inés fret about Coni and the baby. Inés is sure that Coni has been lying and has a plan to expose her. Yawn.

Carlos and Pris are playing with the grape juice chemistry set. Mati arrives with coffee. Pris, respecting their privacy, leaves, "Adíos, Mati." Mati mocks her. Watch out for that coffee, mi Charlie.

Alfonsina expresses appreciation for Laz' and Kari's support as they accompany her, Alison and the baby Luz to the car that Laz has loaned her to use to pay a visit to Agustín.

Killing time until her poison takes effect, Pris asks Manuela for a glass of water. Never mind, here's Mati sounding the alarm. "Carlos is choking!" She gave him a coffee and suddenly he couldn't breathe. Not to worry, Pris runs off and hurries back with a pill.

No wonder Renata was in such a hurry... Jerry's been sprung! She rushes up the municipal building's steps and gives him a super Renata-style greeting and there to witness this joyous reunion is she of the bountiful bouncy bubis in the company of Shady Saúl.

After commercials, Marina identifies the happy couple for Saúl. Jerry tells Renata that it was her intervention with Alvaro that tipped the scales. She then tips him over and begins to ravish him right there in front of God and... well... Marina.
Saúl is very perceptive, "But he looks very much in love with her." Sadly, Marina already knows. He's disgusted with the cad, Jerry, but tells him that Jerry never lied to her. "Then why did you go out with him?" I told you that he's very perceptive. "Let's go," Marina pleads.

Finally, Renata and Jerry get into the SUV, but they look like they might have to pull off to the side of the road on the way home.

Good news travels fast, but Augie doesn't seem to be rejoicing.

Drat! Not exactly the most propitious moment for Alfi to arrive asking for money, but she goes on in carrying Luz with her leaving Alison free to mingle with Aníbal who is practicing with his sword. which he drops when he glimpses Alison. They chat amiably about her work as Luz' babysitter. He didn't think that granny wanted her seeing him but she assures him that it's OK since coming with Alfi and the baby is part of her job. He hopes that Alfonsina has to come often. So does she. They kiss.

As we noted, Augie is grumpy. Alfonsina knocks.

"May I?"

"What are you doing in my office?"

"Perdón, don Agustín, I was told that you were here, that I could come in to look for you."

"I don't like interruptions and much less by people who don't work for me."

"No, no, no, I didn't want to bother you. I came because you told me I could come by on payday for Ezekiel's salary."

"I can't believe it. Your husband just died and you only think of money."

"But you said.."

"Come back another day. Don't just reach out your hand for money."

"I repeat, that if I'm here, it's because you suggested it."

"Well, now I suggest that you come back another day and that you wait outside until I decide to receive you."

"Don't worry, that won't be necessary, I won't return and trouble you."

Jerk!

He then says, "Turns out that the idiot has pride."

He looks out the window and sees the kids kissing and goes ballistic. He looks as though he could devour a live puppy.

The girls and baby leave as Augie shouts for Aníbal.

Alfonsina is devastated. Alison notices that she is crying, but as Alfi agonizes and lashes out at poor dead Zeke, Alison retreats into a prettier world of remembered boy smells and tasty kisses.

Augie viciously scolds Aníbal for the crime of giving his heart to a servant girl. Aníbal boldly holds his ground saying that he has no doubt that Augie is his dad but he will not be manipulated like a puppet. He's going to gather his stuff and leave.

As we break for commercial I picture Augie skewered on one of those pointy sticks:

"Gee officer, it all happened so fast. One minute he was showing me how to fence and the next... well look for yourself..."

Well thank goodness, Carlos is all better. He gave us all quite a scare. Pris says it must have been the coffee. Good thing that Pris knew to give him that pill. "Saaay..." Carlos is thinking the same thing we are, "Priscila, how did you know what to give me?"

She's good... while they were dancing the flamenco in Seville, ("Remember?" "How could I forget?") he had a similar thing happen and she had to give him an antihistamine. "I remembered that you are allergic to some things." He remembers too, "walnuts, cinnamon, sulfa." "And saffron," she adds. Prissy looks accusingly at Mati, "You didn't know?"

I get a little break to sip some mezcal as the well-dressed newlyweds tour the beautiful city of Taxco to the strains of Cuando Me Enamoro.

Back in DF Adri confronts Coni about the baby. Coni responds by inquiring about Benjamín. Well played, Coni. They commiserate about Chema, Adri tells her about the plans to go ahead with the restaurant but when she pauses for a reply, she sees that Coni is lost in a tiny maternal world inhabited by only her and little Amparo.

Renata and Jerry have arrived home and seem to be looking for a soft spot to consummate their reunion when Lazaro spots them. He drags them inside and gathers the crew. Sorry, Renata and Jerry... maybe later. Oh well, gratification delayed is gratification enhanced. Everyone is happy. Jerry congratulates the newlyweds then offers to send them to DF for their luna de miel. RIGHT NOW. OK that's two down. Mati happily tackles Jerry. Renata is collateral damage, being knocked to the sofa. Carlos floats in riding his antihistamine followed by Prissy. "An allergic reaction," they explain. The Curse of Matilde!

At the OB clinic, there's good and bad news. The abruption has healed. Marina can walk again (but I'm guessing... not in those boots.) Unfortunately her blood pressure is up. Preeclampsia? Perhaps just all the stress. The Dr. doesn't seem too worried. She needs to relax and he'll write a prescription. She assures him that she is taking her folic acid.

Saúl senses an opening. She needs to get away from here... either with him... or not... but she needs to get away from this place and guy who makes her so sad.

In the La Bonita kitchen, Kari and Laz are excited about taking their first plane ride. Manuela gives them a special blessing as Mati looks on. They all kid around a bit. Laz and Kari leave. Manuela takes the opportunity to advise Mati, "Stay close to Carlos and keep an eye on Priscila." They both trust Carlos, but neither trusts Pris. Herminia interrupts. Papers have arrived that must be signed for.

Well thank goodness. Jerry has bathed with his own soap and shampooed with his own shampoo. Renata is relieved. The documents are delivered and signed for. They're from the Tribunal Eclesiástico. News of the annulment! Worried looks and speculation. Meintras tanto, Matilde strategically inserts herself between Pris and Charlie. Everyone looks to Jerry who is reading with a worried look as Renata asks pointedly, "Jerónimo, are we still married within the Church... or not?"

Marina arrives home and tells her uncle that the babies are fine, the bleeding danger is past, and as he grouses about Saúl, she wheels into her room to weep and whine as I try to rescue that little worm from the bottom of this bottle.

Cheryl... next!

Okay Dr. Carlos...leave newbie Mary's sandwiches alone now!

Perfectly clever title (why am I not surprised)...yes, Augustin is great with the highly public thought of helping out Alfonsina, not so good on the carry-through. Whadda rat.

Loved your description of our middle-aged honeymooners "Cute...and borrrring...next!) I always find myself wondering how he can manage to kiss her under that voluminous hat.

Your speculation that Renata and Jeronimo might have to pull over to the side of the road was a hoot...actually I suspect she was very relieved he managed to have a shower and shampoo before any prolonged reconciliation took place.

Loved Matilde crashing into Jero and bouncing Renata off to the couch("collateral damage"...very cute!); ditto for her squeezing in between Carlos and Prissbutt.

Great episode and fabulous recap. How's the hangover?

Ay Mi Carlos, you are such a scream. Thank you once again for sharing your saber-like wit with us.

Even my custom beanie couldn't fathom the fact that telenovela Carlos had not, in all his time at La Bonita, revealed he had food allergies, including walnuts, cinnamon and saffron?!? Surely Manuela and Mati have been making food with cinnamon at the very least! It must have been sulfa that Miss Priss poured into his coffee. Bruja!

I still have some more recap to read but I just wanted to check in and say how much I am enjoying things so far.

Skewer Augustin!! I am all for that, the nasty old creep.

Great, lively recap, Carlos! Thank you! Amidst all the fun, you did deliver some "Ew" moments. From your sweet little worm, to wondering if I can ever eat a box of Honeynut Cheerios again without thinking of Fina, to finishing off with that picture of Dr. ICryMoreThanCariUsedTo.

I am happy for you that there were so many good Mati moments for you to detail. The "collateral damage" of Renata and her squeezing in between Carlos and Pris was so funny. Also, Renata's face when she got pushed on the couch. Good thing she appreciates Mati's straightforwardness so much, cuz there's a whole lot of it going on.

That was funny when Renata giggled about Poor Charlie. What specifically was she laughing at anyway?

The Taxco honeymoon looks lovely. Regina's travel clothes are beautiful, and Gonzalo's hair is long enough to blow in the breeze. I bet Gonz is amazed how nice it is to be on vacation with someone who is not hollering at the waiters or belittling the maids, like we are sure Fina would do on trips.

Little Luz is so cute! Her cheeks! However, I was disturbed to see Alison holding her in the back seat as opposed to her being in a car seat. Little Ampara is just darling too. I really get Coni being head over heels. I wish we could get more glimpses of both those babies.

Now that it is useless to worry about Chema (although I can still feel him in my nose), I am focusing my anxiety on Anibal. I hope he gets Augie before Augie gets him.

Rosemary la Otra

Great recap, Carlos. And pictures! You caught some perfect moments. I love your fantasy of Augie skewered.

Also his near Zorro-slashing of Anibal...yeah, that was nothing but a threat; he didn't even pretend to give a real fencing lesson! Anibal wasn't even holding his weapon right (palm should be facing up).

I admire Anibal's refusal to be used and abused by his father but I'm worried about what Augie might do to him. Maybe Jero would help Anibal put full-page ads in the local paper and hourly radio spots saying that if anything happens to him, it's almost certainly Augie's doing.

I, too, was baffled that Carlos is allergic to all those things and hasn't yet been poisoned by the hacienda cooking. I mean, cinnamon? How has he not eaten any cinnamon in all these months if they didn't know he is allergic?

Shouldn't be too hard to pin this on Priscilla. There aren't magic curse elves lacing coffee with strange things. Someone had to put it there. The only reason to put it there would be to cause a reaction. Only Priscilla knew about his allergies...and happened to have an antihistamine handy.

Now I really want to see Carlos dance flamenco.

Does Augie not realize that the way he treated Alfonsina is going to get back to Renata? Oh, right, he thinks servants don't count.

Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us again this week, Carlos! I really appreciate it.

Welcome, Mary! We're always looking for fellow novela addicts to chat with. It's a great way to pass the time and meet some fantastic people.

So Priss thinks the quickest way to a man's heart is through upsetting his stomach? Loca, loca, loca. Carlos needs to put his foot down and tell Priss to knock it off. Is he really so oblivious that he doesn't notice her pining after him? Ya basta.

Between Marina's delicate pregnancy, Saul drama, and constant tears, I have to wonder how her story is going to end. I'm afraid she might die in childbirth. This show has a history of doing away with the "Spare Girl/Guy".

Amy

What a fun Saturday read Carlos! Did your little worm friend survive? I hope you treated him better than Augie did Anibal or Alfie. I also loved the pictures.

Yeah, Nata and Jero were interrupted everytime they tried to have a romantic moment of reunion. Maybe the hacienda IS too full. But it was hilarious the way Mati knocked over Nata onto the couch.

It does look like our main couple get their alone time on Monday and a proposal, finally!

I'm worried for Ani. Augie likes pointing that sword at him too much. I liked your fantasy about the "accidetal" scewering of Augie. :)

Watching Gonzo and Gina stroll through Taxco makes me want to go there. What a lovely town. These tns really are great tourism promotion for Mexico.

Dear Carlos:

You have done many great recaps but this one is a keeper. Your talent for observation—let's call it snark and bark—along with consonant musings is unequaled. I give you the following:

"Nata announces that she has a date with a newly religious reptile involving fingerprints as soon as she tidies up. Manuela, recognizing an opportunity to pry a bit, offers to take care of replacing the stuff into the box". Perfectly observed and reported—with just that hint of chipotle chile that you always add to the mix.

I have noted your remarks about Capetillo's reptilian stare before but this was just perfect. Do you that his cold blooded circulatory system lends an advantage to our matador? Antonio has a gaze that can stop a charging bull in its tracks. Why not have HIM deal with Augustin?

Thank you so much, Carlos, for this wonderful recap. You made my morning.

Elna June

As for the allegies, perhaps Carlos isn't super allergic to cinnamon and the more common stuff, so he doesn't make a big deal about it. But I have a feeling his biggest allergy might be to sulfa and that's what Pris bought at the pharmacy. That was pretty dangerous since his airway seems to have closed shut pretty immediately. What a witch!

R la O- I think I would have giggled just like Nata at limping, bandaged, now swollen and drug-dazed Carlos too. Jero's reaction, only giving him a far away pat so as not to injure him further, just added to her giggles.

Carlos, I thank you for your recap and feel quite fortunate you volunteered again.

Welcome Mary. I hope you enjoy our group as you learn more Spanish.

Taxco is quite beautiful; I would love to vacation there.

And yes it is quite a leap that Carlos has never had an allergic reaction before our episode.

Sylvia and Julia:

ITA with you two on the Prissbutt/Mi Charlie attack. 'Mi Charlie' looked ridiculous with those cotton balls stuffed in his mouth and his round blue eyes opened wide. But food allergies are no laughing matter. I have several and I have ended up in the emergency room twice, antihistimines or no.

I am worried about our blonde Carlos. Even though he is the fool in the deck I always saw him as the wise-fool, loving and reliable to his friends. Right now he is acting like a total idiot. Let me count the ways...
1. He is not setting reasonable boundaries with Prissybutt, and, in fact, seems to enjoy the attention caused by the competing women
2. We know Carlos is supposed to be a competent winemaker but her really acts the ditz about most other things. Most if not all winemakers trained in the US have the equivalent of masters degrees or doctorates in organic chemistry. If you are a chemist and you suddenly become allergic to coffee served you in a thermos, don't you save said coffee and analyze it???
3. Matilde's charms are obvious—until she opens her mouth. Carlos could also set limits with HER about growing up and placing a curb on her tongue. Right now I can't stand this character and want her to have some comeuppance for her big mouth! That little mocking thing she does is just toooooo much.

EJ

What can I say that hasn't been said already? This was an amazing recap Carlos, frankly better than much of the episode!! Though, we will now have a moment of silence for our little bottom of the bottle friend. One little slimy worm we will fondly remember.

As for the other slimy worm, Auggie just doesn't get it. I agree, the way he treated Alfi, you know she'll either spill to the La Bonita crowd, or Alison will and it would get back to Nata. But then I seem to remember he casually expressed his distain for the working classes back in the flood days, and thought Nata should feel the same way. He doesn't know our girl.

Someone just drop-kick Pris to the nearest dust heep. And Dr. I'mSoSickOfHer ( or your delicious "she of the bountiful bouncy bubis") with the weeping is getting to be overkill. Nice way to nuture a positive environment for your twins. Not surprised at the high blood pressure. Happened to me with my twins too. Though I kept working until told to stay off my feet at 7 months in. So she needs to get her butt out of the chair since she got the okay and make herself useful. Oh, and could they please at least put some kind of fake pillow on this woman. TWINS for goodness sake.

The women in this valley must know a secret the rest of us don't know. How to stay slim and trim and then give birth to big healthy babies.Alfi, now Tata. Share please.

Rosemary, cracked up at your Gonzo's hair blowing in the breeze. Without all that greasy kid stuff he usually has in his hair, you really can see what an amazing crop of thick hair Rene has. I'd kill for that hair.

Love those previews. Some major loving coming our way Monday???

Aye! Just what the Doctor ordered! The REAL Doctor for a cloudy, dreary Saturday. Carlos, dang man, you said so many funny, flippant and wicked funny things, I'd end up quoting the whole recap! What a delight! Thanks, Doc!

You know what, if it were not such a potentially dreadful existential burden for Anibal, I would wish that Auggie die by a sowrd at Anibal's ahnd. They sure keep making anvilesque allusions thereto.

Speaking of another oft-repeated theme, ole' weepy pants who seems to be carrying a baby in each of her boobs instead of her abdomen like the rest of us did. How long before Auggie convinces her to throw in with him in a kind of double cross plan of evil. Auggie doesn't get everything he wants but he sure tries and I just think Tata's going to get mad and go openly to the dark side.

And Charlie? Man. He really did seem impaired! His lip was all rubbery and his speech slured in a way that didn't seem all acting. Jeez! Anyway, I'm sick of Prisbutt and I want her arse exposed and booted out!

Reading the reaction to this comic masterpiece is going to be as fun as the recap. . .off to chores!

Lila

Padrissssimo, Doctor Carlos. Truer words were never written with such wit. Really enjoyed the caper through the recap. (EJ--Snark and Bark--so fitting)

Welcome Mary--I fell for Juan Soler, too (I gave up La Pola to watch him and Silvia Navarro together--hang the history of New Spain in SA). I was so disillusioned with his character early on, especially since Renata was so truly in love with him. But, we held in there, didn't we?

Just before Dr.Yellowjacket asked Saul to drive away, she said SHE was the one who fell enamorada. I think Saul assumed Jero seduced her and left her pregnant to marry Nata, so at least she set the record straight--not that Saul really cares.

ITA re the food allergies. The source will probably be as thoroughly investigated as Ezekiel's mysterious knot tying technique.

Maybe Ms. Prissybutt wants to play the one-upmanship game. She just doesn't know who she's playing with. Mati, please don't fall for the curse theme--be a tiger and protect the daddy of your future cubs.

Nata did comment on how pleased she was that Jero had taken the time to bathe since we was so fragrant after 3 days in the hoosegow. Now, tell me how is it that Jero never got to change clothes, but he's still emerges clean-shaven with all that gorgeous hair still in place--and we snicker at the ladies's hair after a hospital crisis.

Rather than an anvil or a sword of Damocles hanging over Anibal, it's an epee. Now that we've been shown fencing scenes twice with Anibal, it's likely to figure in the final confrontation. I think it will be Augie who suffers a puncture wound (yessssss, let all that hot air out). Our little Ani proved last night that he's his father's son, with a Jr. Temper to match his dad's. Go Anibal.

Oooops, Nata never got back to Tonio for the fingerprints.....
NOK

Oh, and why would Augie throw such a fit over Anibal getting close to the offspring of someone in the "servant class." It was a little over the top, for me. Is there another revelation coming?

I mean, having a talk with the kid is one thing, doing the jutting-jaw thing and threatening and yelling was another.
NOK

NOK- Augie was already ticked about Jero getting free. I think anything would have pushed him over the edge at that point. Seeing his son (who he knows is his), his flesh and blood, co-mingling with the servant classes gave him just the push he needed to vent his anger at someone. Unfortunately, Anibal was that person.

Jero's/Juan's hair is amazing. He ran his hands through it many times while locked up, and it all just fell right back into place. The secret is that he has lots of it, and a great haircut, and no product to make things stick up in weird place when mussed.

Wow! Thanks everyone. What a great bunch of warm and thoughtful comments already.

Judy, were you as surprised and shocked as I am that Augie didn't follow through on his impressive and highly public promise to Alfonsina? I wish somehow that Renata could have witnessed that little scene.

Sylvia, indeed. Cinnamon (canela) is is such a staple Mexican seasoning... how is it that Carlos has survived. The stuff she poured into his Thermos did look like a Sulfa suspension, but how in the world could he have not noticed? Sulfa tastes ghastly.

Rosemary la O, I think that Renata was laughing at how pitiful poor Carlos looked coupled with the fact that once again Matilde blamed her famous curse.

You took me by surprise with:

"Now that it is useless to worry about Chema (although I can still feel him in my nose)"

fortunately the mezcal has already been put away. Orange juice isn't quite so bad.

Julia, that fencing lesson was no more than a blatant and brutal display of dominance and I think the message was received loud and clear.

Amy, I'm glad you had a moment to drop by. I'm beginning to share your fears about Marina. Like Chema, she's pretty, superfluous, inconvenient, and annoying.

Vivi, Mati's exuberant welcome of Jerry knocking Nata onto the sofa was such a hoot. Everyone in that scene seemed to be having a great time.

Elna June, I'm a big Tony fan. I don't care for bullfighting, but I think toreadors are incredible. I don't think that cold unblinking gaze of his is an accident. I was really hoping that he would focus it on Alvaro.

I'm guessing that you were not an early Matilde fan... but admit it... don't you wish that Mati had been the one to repack the Fina box?

Karen, thanks. I would have been happy with much more time strolling about Taxco. By the way, I love Viva's photo of you and her together... you are both so beautiful.

daisynjay, I was amazed that Marina not only was not showing, but was wearing skin tight jeans and those impossible boots. With the blood pressure elevation, she's bound to have at least a bit of puffiness of the ankles... wouldn't you think?

Carlos

Lila and NOK, I'm glad that you guys enjoyed the recap. There really wasn't much important that happened. I guess it's a good thing that Jerry's out. I wonder if we'll get to see a bit of Kari and Laz in the big city.

Lila, I'm inclined to agree that it would be too much for Aníbal to be the one to take out Augie. I'm holding out for him to drown in a vat of Renacer En Ti.

NOK, I'm not too worried about Mati and Pris. I almost have sympathy for Prissy. Not only is she dealing with Mati (formidable enough), but the entire La Bonita staff.

As for the fingerprints, I think Izzy made a good choice in selecting Antonio to get it done. Remember what a pest he can make of himself.

Carlos

Thanks everyone for helping me navigate the blogger profiles yesterday.

Also Mary welcome! I stumbled on this site by accident too and it's been a lifesaver. Glad to have you with us. Keep checking in.

What a great recap, Carlos. You sure captured Auggie with that title. His treatment of Alfosina was so-o-o cold. It wasn't smart of him to go back on his word. It'll take a while but it's going to get back to Nata.

Speaking of Nata. All of a sudden she is eating everything in sight. She has always been a woman of healthy appetites -- but all of a sudden she can't pass a taco or a cookie without stuffing it in her mouth ----and avances of a few days ago seemed to show her fainting???? Whatcha think?

Little Alison may be the vehicle to let several bits of info slip. She knows about Aníbal's letter of proof. She knows that Auggie treated Alfi badly -- though she doesn't know the whole story yet.

Ditto what you all said about Prissybutt. Could she be more annoying? It is fun watchng Mati's reactions. Her tackle of Jero & the look on Nata's face when she landed on the couch were hilarious. Do you suppose that the fall was unscripted?

That box with the photos & the birth certificate--- Isn't it the one that Regina found when she was cleaning out Fina's stuff? If so then how come Gina didn't notice the truth of the birth certificate?
Carlos-- loved your comment about how it's too bad it wasn't chismosa Matilde who found the info.

How about the gall of Roberta? German offers her keys to a rental apartment and she wants to know why he didn't BUY one for her? ¡Qué estupida!

Güera

Gurerra, I think you're on to something with Nata's munchies. What a wonderful realistic way to hint that she's pregnant! I hope so, maybe she'll even show!

Lila

Amy and Carlos - I hope you are wrong about Marina dying in childbirth. As much as she irritates us, we don't need that kind of convenience. But, even worse than that, is if she died before the babies were viable. Awful thought. BTW, NOK, I love the nickname Dr. Yellowjacket! So clever given what she was wearing.

And then if Nata is eating and eating and eating like Guera pointed out, maybe she is pregnant, so they'd be raising 3 babies! Alison will be raking in the bucks nannying 4 babies.

Speaking of Alison, I do hope she makes an aside or two to Renata about what she has seen/heard of Augie. I don't think Alison has all the back history, so she won't take Nata's feelings into consideration, like these other's frustratingly do.

Wouldn't it be fun if Laz and Kari could hook up with Gonzo and Regina in the city? I hope there is a crossover scene or two. Like if they are eating lunch in the exact same table where Jero gave Nata her engagement ring. Oh! Even better.... if they had lunch at Chema's restaurant. What is the name of that place, do we know?

R la O

Dear Dr. Carlos and all:

Thank you so much for the recap - it was driving me nuts last night wondering what Mi Jero was going on and on about in his jail house rock.

But before I go on I just wonder where you, Doc Carlos got the idea that I was having impure thoughts about Mi Jero?? I don't think I ever admitted that, did I? Did I?

Ok enough about me and Mi Jero. How hysterical was Maritatas screaming and crying about Jero. First of all he never promised you a thing ; second get in line lady I think I saw him first or someone else here did. So she can just stop that boo hooing already. Notice how it always comes back to Mi Jero??

Also, with regard to MariStoreBoughtTatas - when I was searching for stuff and found you guys I also found something else - not going to tell you what it is, but it does have spoilers. Tons of them. Nope, don't even think about it - not telling. No matter what kind of sandwich you offer.

bye for now,

Love, Mary

Güera, Nata really seems to have been enjoying the food in this show, but as you note, even more so here lately. It would not be surprising to me if indeed she is pregnant.

You are right, that box contains things that Fina had collected and Regina gathered up and turned over to Nata. Photos, baby clothes, and apparently, documents.

Rosemary, la O, I too would like to have Kari and Laz pay a visit to the Chema restaurant. There must be some significance to the fact that they're going ahead with it.

Doesn't Mexico City seem like an odd destination for the campesino couple, especially with Regina and Gonzo away?

Carlos

Welcome back Mary.

"...where you, Doc Carlos got the idea that I was having impure thoughts about Mi Jero?? I don't think I ever admitted that, did I? Did I?"

Well... ummm.... I... er... uh.... just assumed... I mean... uh...

Hey, I was sipping mezcal.

Carlos

Mary, your are too funny. And welcome!

Carlos, yeah, would think the woman would be at least looking a little larger somewhere besides the upper chest region. ( Heaven forbid after she gives birth!). Truthfully, she should be getting to a point soon where she can't even SEE her ankles, let alone dealing with the swelling. Such fond memories that brings back...

Count me in thinking that Laz and Kari will get into the plot with the folks back in Mexico somehow. Let's see what does Laz know especially that could really muck up the works for maybe Fina or Berta? Fun times ahead.

Mary - Carlos was mistaken about your impure thoughts of Jero. In fact, it was Jero having impure thoughts about YOU.

Oh haha, Daisy! Wouldn't that be funny if Fina and Blanca were finally brought down by none other than Super Laz!

Thank you Rosemary for getting things straight about who it was that was having impure thoughts and Doc Carlos blaming the worm now. Hummm...

Doc C - are you really a real doctor? Hope you're psychiatrist for all this insanity. We need to have a group session we are all so silly.

Well I have to go cook dinner soon and hope we don't blow away in these winds we're having here in So Cal. Thanks again for the warm welcome and the great laughs. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to talking to you again on Monday.

blessings,

Mary

All of you out west seem to be in the track of ferocious winds -- hope it doesn't delay your dinner, Mary. You are too funny. Glad you checked back in.

I forgot to say, Carlos, I loved your grape juice chemistry set and your aside that Nata "begins to ravish him right there in front of God and... well... Marina." very clever.

All these lovely views of Taxco make me want to go back. Of course most of what I remember was climbing, and climbing, and climbing. My friend and i passed up a ride to the upper town because she thought she remembered something she wanted to see on the way up -- but we missed our turn on one of those narrow streets that Gonzo & Gina are strolling on and we climbed way up beyond the central plaza. We were totally lost until someone pointed us to a Ruta to take us back down.

Güera

I wanted to repeat a plug I posted late last night for my favorite TN galán who is starring in Talisman. We've only been given fleeting glimpses of him so far. I'm also intrigued about the gaming theme:

Talisman: I so look forward to seeing Rafael Novoa again. That man is hot! For me the sexiest TN galán with deep set dark eyes and wonderfully expressive eyebrows. I hope he does well in this. He's a very talented actor.

Audrey

Carlos, that was so awesome! I just love your witty recaps plus your pictures. Thank you !

Audrey

Rafael Novoa returns to US TV with Talisman

I was just looking at the screencaps again and that one of Augie yelling is really terrifying. Let's send it to Renata.

Audrey- I have only seen that actor once when he made a special appearance towards the end of MEPS as a possible love interest for SN when her true love Fernando C. went away. It was a special appearance because he played the role of the FC character in the Columbian version of MEPS, Pura Sangre. I agree, he is quite a hottie. We ladies will have plenty of eye candy, between him and Aaron Diaz, in El Talisman.

Hi Vivi! I have watched most of Pura Sangre, and Novoa was so awesome in that. I first saw him in the Columbian version of A Corazón Abierto. Telemundo broadcast it in 2010. That show was a Columbian remake of Grey's Anatomy, and I enjoyed it even more than the US original. It was my first TN, and looking back I can't believe I tackled those tough Columbian accents. And no website blog support either - I had not discovered any of the English fan sites yet. The show was so compelling, however, that it kept me glued to the set, and thus Audrey's TN watching career was born!

I forgot about his guest appearance in MEPS, although I did hear about it - too cute!

Audrey

Julia:
"Shouldn't be too hard to pin this on Priscilla. There aren't magic curse elves lacing coffee with strange things. Someone had to put it there".

Too right. It shouldn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out.

Julia, Karen and Vivi...What's with those allergies at the last moment? Ultimos capitulos...all bets are off. Smile.

Amy:
O I hope you are wrong about Marina dying! She is annoying but I don't want her to die, esp. in childbirth.

EJ

You're right Julia. If only Renata could see that side of Auggie. That picture would scare her off for sure.

When did Auggie begin to show this contempt for those he considers not of his class? It's turning into a theme.

Güera

NOK:

Marina has a rather interesting moral world view, doesn't she? She had to set Saul straight so that he he doesn't think badly of Jero. Plus 1. But she had no problem setting her cap at a married man, knowing he was newly separated and then hopping into bed with him. Minus 10.

Guera: I think you nailed it with Renata's eating habits. Good catch!

Carlos:

Matilde I could do without but I AM a real fan of the actress who plays Matilde. She plays the part over-the-top and the character is therefore, deeply annoying. She is a good actress and very pretty. I predict that she will be a protagonista, if she hasn't been one already.

Carlos and Lila:

ITA with you twoo...the karma for being a patricide would be too much for our cute Anibal to bear.

Let Augustin be found head down in an open vat of...La Cruz de Amor's 2010 Vintners Reserve 'Dos Pesos Carlos', or 'Two-Buck Chuck' as we call it here. Maybe he'll fall in el musto after a sword fight, since we keep seeing those epées.

EJ

Mary--Congratulations!! You just made our Tatas list with a never-been-used-before. Please give us a good one for the DocWhoWillNotDie.
NOK (formerly known as Newbie-One-Kanobe and aka as Newbie in Md.)

EJ--You've forgotten our ditty....already? They hopped on a desk, without the benefit of Kari's embroidered sheets, haha.
NOK

My word verification is tanicab--the new open air taxis Gonzo and Gina would use in Taxco.

Rosemary La Otra-
The other day you asked about a soundtrack for this tn. I haven't found one, but I have downloaded the main song "Cuando me Enamoro" by Enrique and Juan Luis.

But if you want to see who all of the other singers are of all the other wonderful songs in this tn, here is a video compilation that gives the song titles and artists: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOxPCFL8_x8

The only songs I noticed are missing from this compilation are the really sad one, "Cuando un Amigo se Va" by Elan, and the newer "Mariposa Traicionera" by Mana.

Some of the songs we haven't heard for a long time: the Matias-Renata theme; the sad Matias theme; the sad Matias-Adri theme; Connie-Chema theme; Gina-Tony theme. Is it telling that Fina and Augie don't have theme songs, just intense instrumental themes?

Oh, and the Anibal-Alison themes aren't there as well. Have to track down the names to those songs.

Aha! Found it! The Anibal-Alison theme is "Alguien" by a cute young man named Jaime Kohen. Here's his video for the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDwUwqIt-Y0

Thank you Dr. Carlos, very humorous recap. Welcome Mary, I also find Jero extremely attractive, especially in a suit. Love his hair and smile.
I would love to visit Taxco, looks beautiful.
I think Roberta's punishment is to have to sleep with German.
I guess Augie's plan is to have Saul convince Dr. Tatalicious, aka Dr. yellowjacket, aka Dr. icrymorethancariusedto, to leave town so that Jero follows her and Nata gets jealous and furious.
I agree that Laz and Cary must be honeymooning in the city for a reason. They will have a pivotal role in winding this up somehow.

Aka Dr. twinsintheboobies.

Aka Dr. Maristorebottatas.

Dr. Lovesickteen is so obnoxious. I don't want to see the babies hurt but I don't see how Nata and Jero will live happily everafter with her crying and whining and begging. Too much stress on a marriage!

VIVI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are awesome! Thank you for that compilation link. And to whomever CAMILA is who posted it.... thank you!!!!!!!!!!

Just yesterday I was in the Latin section of FYE looking for an Aaron Diaz c.d. (thanks Sylvia for that link, he is darling AND he can sing!). I couldn't find one, but I ended up buying the Enrique Iglesia one with our theme song.

But to have ALL of these songs! Thank you, Vivi! It's true how music brings back such feelings.

Like the Renata-Matias one almost made me gag because this was when I very first started watching the show and I knew they were brother and sister, but did not know they were not blood-sibs, so this relationship grossed me out from the beginning!

Then when the Senora song came on, I literally got teary-eyed for Chema.

I guess my favorite song of this whole telenovela is Andrea Bocelli's CME for Gonz & Reg.

Had to laugh at the Marina montage simply being all different angles of her crying. lol

Oh VIVI!!!!!!!!!! This will have me going for the day here. I have a huge cooking day ahead and will just keep hitting REPLAY! How smart of you to look for "CME Canciones" instead of "CME Songs". Duh... I should have figured that out.

And then you even added three more that aren't on here. Good detective work finding finding the Alison - Anibal song.

Time to hit REPLAY!

R la O

Chuchi - You have sure added to NOK's new Dr.Tata's nicknames list! It's like we have this fun little virtual CME museum with snarks and beanies and music and worms.

I came up with a way to get Marina out of their lives without killing her off. Maybe she goes back to the city with CrapsSaul, ends up not able to handle his gambling and the crying babies and runs to Hope House and asks Constanza, freshly out of jail from false kidnapping charges, to take custody of them. Jero and Renata give their blessing and Hon falls truly, madly, deeply in love with the babies. Of course, Tatas and Con can not give a hug of gratitude, as their builds make it physically impossible.

Much better scenario than the other deadly one that we've been "bouncing" around.

R la O

Dr. Charlie, thanks so much for the terrific recap. I wish you would recap more. I love your humor.

I can just see it now, Gonzo and Regina take the kids on a year long trip and leave Roberta in charge because she is doing such a fine job. It is good thing Jero has plenty of money to support them all.

Sorry, but Dr. Tatas needs to die and of course the babies will live. Can you image what a mess the twins would be with her around constantly crying, etc. about Mi Jero! That would be worse than Renata's childhood.

I think a lot of the scenes with Renata, Jero, Mati and Carlos are spontaneous - they are just having too much fun.

Mary, a belated welcome. I love your humor. I had to buy my Spanish speaking friend lunch to help me the translation of what was going on - so I feel your pain about the sandwich.

Rosemary #1

Hi, Chuchi, Nice to "see" you this AM. Love this:

"Dr. Maristorebottatas". One good thing you can say about silicone is that it does not droop, evidently even when one is pregnant with twins.

R la O, "Of course, Tatas and Con can not give a hug of gratitude, as their builds make it physically impossible" was hysterical.

OT: What are you cooking up in your kitchen on this Sunday, amiga? We have a lot of foodies on this board that NEED to know.

You folks kill me...I step away from the computer for a few minutes and return to find there's more work to do...Thanks a lot, Chuchi (but since we're on the same page with Mi Jero el Hermoso, you're excused.)

I was actually thinking that Augie could set up housekeeping with Maritatas. That would absolutely gall Jero, keep him in Nata's sphere of influence and hope against hope to get her back. Poor Marina. But, since he doesn't like kids AT all, what would he do with two.

So, we also know she can't leave DF while Jero wants to serve as The Principal Papa, because it will cause eternal irritation between him and Renata.

The only horrible solution is the one everyone is alluding to. Dr. Marina Sepulveda will have to make a permanent exit, leaving the twins (if they make it) behind.

Padre will certainly have an appropriately incredible velorio for her and a gran entierro where everyone will cry (and Carlos and Mati will again have to postpone their wedding). Ohhh, ay de mi. No Puede Ser.

Please, someone, think of something else.
NOK

R La O- You know although I HATED them as a couple, I loved Gina and Tony's love theme. Yes, Conni-Chema's theme already is a tear jerker, and even more so since Chema's passing. I also like Anibal and Alison's a lot now that I have watched the video and listened to the words. It's very positive and affirming for young people.

Rosemary #1 and NOK:

Call me crazy, but I can't believe Marina has to DIE in order to be redeemed. Now if you told me Roberta was unredeemable, I would probably have to agree.

Why can't Marina just recover her mind, develop some maturity and self-awareness, move on and co-parent the twins with Jero and Nata? It might never be easy, but people do it all the time. So much less drastic than killing her off...I HATE that idea.

I know it is asking a lot of a TN character to develop AWARENESS, but I can always hope, can't I? Just let me at that script!....(Determined grin).

EJ

R la O -- your snark about Doc Tatas & Cons being structurally unable to hug is priceless.

I think that the best ending for Tatalicious and the twins is for her to be once again disappointed in love by Saúl because he is bette at blowing on the dice than blowing in her ear -- but she finds consolation and counsel from Antonio. Their friendship blossoms, he trades in his crucifix for a baby sling and they live happily ever after. Jero will be able to see his twins whenever and will know that they are loved and cared for by a man who knows how to love and yet has a steely toro intimidating gaze which will keep them in line if the twins get too rowdy.

Guera

EJ - I wish I could tell you I was cooking up something worthy of Manuela's praise, but rather this is all it is:
---tilapia, rice and brussels sprouts
---chicken-broccoli casserole
---egg salad for sandwiches

I just have to make a large amount as I've been doing the cooking for my parents the last 3 or 4 years. So I load up individual sized tupperware (3 days worth of each) that my mom's helper can just pop in the microwave. Since my dad died in Sept. we've hired on a sweet neighbor as an aide and I so appreciate her that I make ones for her that she can eat while visiting with my mom.
Then..... today is my husband's birthday, so I've also got his favorite
---spaghetti and meatballs and garlic bread
along with his
---chocolate birthday cake with chocolate frosting (cake mix and canned frosting)
to do.

Whether it's his birthday or not, I usually do a big Sunday dinner for my little family. My adult son and daughter come and bring their gf and bf. It's a good tradition I hope to keep going. Frequently, my kids will drag home college friends who are here from out of state who love a home cooked meal. I LOVE those nights! I get energized by them and feel 24, until I look in the mirror.

Rosemary #1: That is so funny about them leaving Roberta in charge for a year as she's doing such a swell job at EM! lol

R la O

Guera:

I vote for your ending. Much more realistic than mine and more satisfying as well.

EJ

Güera--You are now in charge of happier endings--for that matter whole new telenovelas--ones we can watch without any need for getting beanies out of storage, dry-cleaned and tried on for size (sorry Emilia--you may be out of a job).

Well, you will have a NOK-free week coming up.

I'm off to NYC for a little seasonal diversion. It kills me to know we're getting down to the ultimas semanas. The VCR works fine, it's the electricity I worry about. We had an outage all over town Friday for no reason at all--it was a gorgeous day out--that lasted for two hours. Natch, I had to go reset all the electronic stuff--and the VCR, too.
NOK

Carlos, thanks again for your stupendous recap. I really enjoyed re-reading it and laughing at everyone's hilarious comments. The screen shots are amazing. ITA that the one of Augustin is terrifying. Lisardo does rage well.

Lila, amiga you do have a way with words: "ole' weepy pants who seems to be carrying a baby in each of her boobs instead of her abdomen", LOL!!!

Mary, I nominate you to be officially in charge of the Mi Jero Juano Soler fan club. I'll admit I didn't care much for him at the beginning of this show but tres cosas: 1) no man ever made a suit look sexier, 2) he's managed to get me to root for him and Nata and that's good acting, and 3) if Renata likes him he can't be all bad. Thank you for not telling spoilers as this blog is a militantly spoiler free zone. It's OK to speculate though. Wildly I might add.

I love love love the idea of Super Laz thwarting the coven. Maybe he will recognize Blanca somehow from her past life which is still a mystery?

Güera, you've been to Taxco? I want to go!

Audrey, your favorite TN galán...ooh la la! I definitely remember him in MEPS, white trousers as I recall. Tight. Rear view.

R la O, you must be a wonderful cook and mom if your kids want to come visit you every weekend. How very nice.

Thanks for all the laughs everyone!

Thanks Audrey, I always look forward to hearing from you. I hope Talisman is next up for our time slot. At first I didn't remember him from MEPS but then after looking at these photos I clearly remember his character.

Thanks Chuchi, I'm still not sure what Augie's plan is for Marina. Renata certainly seemed enthusiastic about Saúl's arrival.

Rosemary, although we're not having a very pretty day, I'm really appreciating this rain. I actually had it written into the recap that perhaps they could leave the empresa in Roberta's hands while they take a year to travel but remembered that he included Roberta in the travel plans.

After the experience with Blanca, I'm surprised that Robi has had any success in defrauding the company... even this first check. I would have thought that they would have added layers of security measures.

Carlos

Dr. Charlie, I am glad to hear about the rain, we need to fill up those lakes. I am not in Houston this week, we are in Port A. This is my favorite time at the beach. It hasn't starting raining here but it sure is gray.

Do we really think that Roberta would deign to spend anytime with anyone that was happy? That is why I thought she would stay behind to run EM into the ground. I am afraid that she is going to give German a heart attack, he is much too old for Roberta and her antics. Roberta should give lessons to Dr. Tatas, no roll on the desk for her, not even a rented apartment, she wants to own the darn thing.

There are some parallels in Fina and Dr. Tatas lives. They both think it is the other woman's fault they are not happy. I am afraid if Dr. Tatas lives, she will become just as obsessed with Renata as Fina is with Regina.

I forgot to tell you how much I enjoyed your screen shots.

Rosemary #1

Carlos, you didn't miss a thing! And slathered on the snark perfectly. Thanks!

The comments also have been a hoot. I can't think of a thing to add. Well, I wish somebody had thought of having Padre S marry Mati and Carlos while he was in the hitching mood. (Take that, Miss Prisspants!)

No new news on Mike's mom, but we don't think it will be long now. Thanks for all the kind thoughts and e-amils. Love you all!!!

Sylvia y Carlos, muchas gracias a los dos. And welcome to Mary!

All right now:

- What the hell happened to Dra. Marina Sepulveda, Class Act of the first order? What we've been seeing is behavior that makes young Alison seem a model of maturity. Hey, maybe the good Padre would agree to Alison coming for a sleepover. Marina and Alison can make popcorn and do each other's hair and giggle over cute guys and swear to be BFFs. Jeez.

- Was the Taxco farmacia all out of Wildroot Cream Oil for Gonzalo? But I have to give Rene Casados a little praise for a great job of acting by showing Gonzalo as a little more capable with each episode.

- Priscilla is vicious and greedy and I think there's a good opportunity here to get out the kiddy pool of green jello for her and Matilde to settle their differences.

- Too funny about German and Roberta, may they achieve a gruesome demise by setting their double wide on fire while cooking meth.

- Watching Jero snuggling in his blanket in the cell after 2 or 2 1/2 days, complaining about being cold and I figured he wouldn't have greasy hair or a single wrinkle on his jacket. I guess they allowed him to keep up his oral hygiene regimen or Renata would have been sucking some pretty stale kisses off him outside the jail.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind wishes while Emilia and I have been preoccupied w/ my mother. You guys are our island of sanity. De verdad. Really. You are. I kid you not.

Geez, Mike, WE are your island of SANITY? This group of LOCOS? I totally hear you, though. The times my mom has gone to the nursing home we've ended up referring to it as "The Funny Farm". One time in the throes of all the Funny Farm drama, my husband encouraged me go out to dinner with our best friends, and I remember sometime during the meal doing that crazy woman laugh that you only see/hear in movies or from children with parents in nursing homes. So, trust me, you are smart to hang on to any Island of Sanity you can find before you get sucked in too deep!

We are thinking of you.

R la O

Great recap Carlos, thanks for the screen shots@
I have been playing catch up on two weeks of episodes and blogs! Finally I'm up to date!

There has been too many funny comments to remember...I cant look at Renata's outfits without thinking of Mike calling her "spongebob" was too funny! I was thinking Pinocchio myself with those dumb shorts, tights & ankle boots!

I agree that she must be pregnant, really enjoying her food lately.

WHEN Augie has his horrible death I really hope sweet Anibal takes over the winery as his heir. Forget Alison, I want to fix him up with my daughter! EJ's comment having him drown in two buck chuck was great, but I wouldn't do that to Trader Joe's!

Jero is the best dressed jailbird I have ever seen, so fresh and crisp. Also watching Gonzo on vacation wearing a suit everyday is amusing.

First I was positive Marina would fall in love with Tony & he would leave the seminary or whatever stage he is in before becoming a Priest. But now Iagree and think Mopey Marina has to die during childbirth and Renata will get the chance to show love as a stepmom that Fina never did.

Thank you all for making this such a wonderful site to visit, without it I would have given up watching TN's long ago as my Spanish is limited!

Rosemary la Otra...thanks for that quip..."feeling 24 until I looked in the mirror". I have those days too! The mirror no longer cooperates in my delusions.

Mike and Emilia...my brother would make crazy jokes during the long days of our mom's dementia just to keep our spirits up.

One was his suggestion that we put an invisible fence collar on her that would keep her from wandering away from the yard.

And when they'd go out to dinner and Mom would muse about whether or not she was going to Hell, he'd advise her to "always wear seersucker just in case". One fellow at the next table was so incensed he threatened to bust my bro', but Mom thought it was funny. (She lost most of her mind but never her sense of humor.)

Elle, I can't take credit for the "Sponge Bob" line. David, was that one yours?

Judy, oh trust me, Emilia and I have come up w/ some dark humor, too. Dark. Triple pigment black dark. Imploding galaxy dark. Shame on us.

Emilia and Mike, my heart goes out to you two and to Mike's mom as well. I'm glad that we are able to offer you a bit of diversion and entertainment as well as companionship here.

Emilia, I'm rather enjoying Prissy's presence bbecause she's giving Matilde the opportunity to revert back to the Matilde that captured our hearts at the beginning of the show.

Mike I must admit that I was smitten by Dra. Marina when she first appeared. Pretty, competent, and ethical... what more could you want in a Dr.?

Thanks elle, I'm glad that you find our deliberations here entertaining and helpful. I too had high hopes for Marina ending up with Tony, but it's looking more that they both, in one way or another, are going to end up with God.

Rosemary, cold and rainy again today but I'm not going to complain.

Carlos

Judy - Yes, what shouldn't be funny can help to get you through those parental times. About a month before my Alzheimer-ridden dad died, my mom woke up and found his wet pajama pants had been thrown on top of her. Evidently he'd gotten up in the middle of the night, discovered he'd leaked through his Depends, and took off his pj's and thrown them on Mom. I'm sure it's one of those "Had to be there" jokes, but it sure helped that last month, especially when morose visitors would come, we could tell them about it and laugh and lighten the mood.

Guera - Along with EJ, I also vote for your ending. I think you are right on. Marina will have a flash of the intelligence she used to possess, disavow Saul and seek comfort in Antonio. Then Antonio will relish his new role to the extent he falls in love with her and they raise the babies, near Jero and Renata and they could all get along magnificently. Antonio would be a great go-between so they don't have to see Marina everytime. THIS plot line could be why they keep bringing up Antonio's dead wife and daughter. We thought they'd make an appearance, but maybe not. Perhaps it was to set him up for turning that pain and longing into loving those babies.

Nice theory. Now, in honor of Gamblin' Saul, anyone want to take bets as to when Marina, soon to deliver twins, will start to show and replace the heels for flip flops?

R la O

If she’s anything like Alfie, we are NEVER going to see that baby bump until the day Marina gives birth. Also along the lines of Alfie, she will never stop wearing those sky high heels either. I like the theory that Nata’s increased munchies are the result of her being pregnant. That would be a nice little hint by the writers. They still haven’t shown us that scene they advertised last Monday with Nata falling out, but it seemed almost like that was a preview of the next few weeks since hardly any of the bits they showed happened last week.

I had hoped that something would develop between her and Tony, but I am not seeing any sparks there, and Tony seems to be settling into his religious advisor role quite well. He’s already a better advisor than Padre S. ever was. Remember all the horrible advice he gave Karina initially? I bet Brother Tony would have never told Karina to stay with a drunkard abusive husband.

Yeah, Mike, Sponge Bob was my line.

Carlos, masterful effort as alays. Impure thoughts? I haven't heard that line since leaving Catholic high school in 1965. During my high school years I admit that on 2 or 3 occasions, I didn't have impure thoughts.

Welcome, Mary.

I don't know what I want to see happen to Dr. BarelyBridledBosoms, maybe go back to DF?

How's this for Augie: He starts molesting people with that sword, actually nicking Renata now that he realizes he can never have her, then lunges at Jero, but super Laz pulls a .25 cal purse pistol out of his jeans, and puts a round in Augie's chest. Augie then stumbles and falls into a vat of wine, and gets a vinotorax, while the others look down at him making tsk, tsk sounds.

David

Hi David. I like your scenario although I can't imagine Lazaro packing anything called a purse pistol. Vinothorax... ha... I like it. I've never heard of one developing in quite the way you describe, but vinothorax is not uncommon with Boerhaave syndrome.

Carlos

David and Carlos:

You fellas are usin' big-girl-words today. I have to go back to google to look up "vinothorax" and 'Boerhaave Syndrome'.

Elle: I know, you are right. We can't do anything to harm Trader Joe's, my favorite temple in which to meditate on food and other bodily and spiritual nourishment.

EJ

OK, all this talk about vats of wine used for demise. Indeed, one is reminded of either:

- George, Duke of Clarence, who was drowned in a butt of Malmsey wine. At least according to Shakespeare's Richard III.

- The old down home urban legend about this feller down t' the Co Cola plant who fell into the vat an' 'fore the fire department got there, he'd done dissolved. Don' know if they bottled that batch or not.

Super Laz seems to me more likely to have a good stout blade in his boot.

Elna Jung, I am glad that your Trader Joes still offers Two Buck Chuck, 'cause it's $3.39 here on the east coast.

Rosemary la O, bless you for all you've done for your parents and I understand completely the humor about your dad's wet pants.

LOL David - I had to go back and read that line twice.... your " on 2 or 3 occasions I didn't have impure thoughts". You are so funny!

EJ - Seems as if Utah will never get a Trader Joes due to the funny liquor laws. I keep hearing about it, but have never been to one. What's all the talk about?

I tried to stay away, but I can't now.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes - it's so sweet of you and those who have had to buy translations with lunches! Glad you can relate. :)

So I accept Cap'n Syl's invitation to be the President of the Mi Jero fan club. Where do I sign??

As far as another new name for that miserable Dr. Nesme how about Dr.Shouldbedustbynow or Dr.soontobeWormbanquet.

Oh since this if my first novela - do they always kill off so many people? Geez, there's been so many and no one that should be dead. I mean was it really necessary to kill off Chema? Come on.

I also think we should start a People We'd like to slap most list:

I'll go first.

I'd like to slap the crap out of Augusfiend. Just slap him until his bottom teeth fall out. He needs braces anyway.

Well, then of course Roberta, Fina, Blanca, Dr. Stupid in the Nut House, Prissybutt and sorry but Matilde for her big mouth.

Oh and let's not forget Dr.MariStoreBoughtTatas - she needs to get some sense into her somehow. For crying out loud, have some pride woman!

Then of course Mi Jero - well maybe not a slap, maybe a spanking, oh nevermind. I didn't mean that at all. What? I think someone's calling me. Gotta go.

Carlos: Awesome recap. Thanks for the pics. Julia: “The stuff she poured into his Thermos did look like a Sulfa suspension, but how in the world could he have not noticed? Sulfa tastes ghastly.” Don’t know anything about Sulfa or its nasty taste, but she was forcing him to drink the coffee. “I'm guessing that you were not an early Matilde fan... but admit it... don't you wish that Mati had been the one to repack the Fina box?” That would have been useful. “Emilia, I'm rather enjoying Prissy's presence bbecause she's giving Matilde the opportunity to revert back to the Matilde that captured our hearts at the beginning of the show.” OUR hearts? “Does Augie not realize that the way he treated Alfonsina is going to get back to Renata? Oh, right, he thinks servants don't count.” I wondered about this. You probably right about the servant thing.

R la O: Thank you for the kind words. It is about time I watched a TN with all new actors for me to follow, especially since it seems my pitiful few aren’t appearing in one any time soon. “THIS plot line could be why they keep bringing up Antonio's dead wife and daughter. We thought they'd make an appearance, but maybe not. Perhaps it was to set him up for turning that pain and longing into loving those babies.” Good call. I hope you’re right.

Amy: “Is he really so oblivious that he doesn't notice her pining after him?” I think it’s a combination of that and that he’s flattered. Typical guy. Ooops—sorry Dr. C, D-IN and Mike. My prejudices are showing ;)

Loved Jero’s reaction to Carlos and Mati’s pushing Nata out of the way. This is a good family-type dynamic at La Bonita—or will be once Priss is exposed and booted out.

I have to be gushy and say how much I’m enjoying Laz and Kari so in love and so happy. It makes one quite envious.

EJ: I’m also with you on the Carlos loving the attention thing (see above). I also agree with you regarding Mati. She really does need to grow up a little. I get why she’s acting that way, but it’s going to getting tiring for Carlos to constantly be reassuring her or reprimanding her.

Lila: a crack me up moment: “Speaking of another oft-repeated theme, ole' weepy pants who seems to be carrying a baby in each of her boobs “

NOK: “Our little Ani proved last night that he's his father's son, with a Jr. Temper to match his dad's.” But he will use his temper for good, I think.

Guera: “Speaking of Nata. All of a sudden she is eating everything in sight. She has always been a woman of healthy appetites -- but all of a sudden she can't pass a taco or a cookie without stuffing it in her mouth ----and avances of a few days ago seemed to show her fainting???? Whatcha think?“ Of course!!!!! Yaaaaaay!!!! Nata being pregnant would really put a damper on Marina’s constant, I’m the mother of his children, spiel.

Vivi: That Talisman guy was in MEPS?! Liliana’s novio—at the end, right? Yay, another actor to follow from my first TN. And thanks for the song info. I wish they would release soundtrack albums for these TNs since they use a lot of music in them. Probably cost prohibitve (to get the rights for it) considering how much music is used.

Amy and EJ: I have to admit to a horrible wish that Marina would lose her babies (of course I would never wish that on a real person, even my worst enemy). But I’m so sick of her martyr act.

Rosemary #1: “Can you image what a mess the twins would be with her around constantly crying, etc. about Mi Jero! That would be worse than Renata's childhood.” So true.

Elle: “Renata will get the chance to show love as a stepmom that Fina never did.” That would certainly be consistent with one of the themes in this story.

I wish they would release soundtrack albums, too! Or at least when they use a song that hasn't been released, the artist or whoever owns the rights should then release it, at least for download if not on CDs. There are some good songs I'd love to have and can only find icky bootleg versions of. For example, Pablo Montero's Regalito song from TdA (his second song from that show, NOT the other one which he sang constantly), and Maya Mishalska had one in Cuidado Con el Angel which I really liked.

Oh Carlos, I just got to read this and once again, you continue to exceed expectations. We have come to expect an amazing, all encompassing recap and you delivered that and much more.

The pictures! Amazing. Always perfect.

I smiled all the way through this but laughed gustily at "Well yeah, you're doing business with idiots". "wheels into her room to weep and whine" and
"gratification delayed is gratification enhanced" were also terrific.

You are a master storyteller - bravo once again!

I think Carlos might figure out what was put in the coffee, and that it wasn't an ordinary kitchen item (it must have been the sulfa, otherwise why go to the farmacía? His sensitivities to the other things must be much weaker for Priscilla not to have just used cinnamon that was readily available in the kitchen instead). I think he did taste it...when Matilde first gave him the coffee he made a face like it tasted bad, but I think he decided Mati just made bad coffee and he didn't want to hurt her feelings. Now that he knows there was something else in it, he might get to thinking...once he recovers from the antihistimine dopiness.

A spanking huh? Mary, you are bad.

As for body count, in my 2+ years watching, I have found that some tns are high in body count and some are low. And it doesn't matter if it's comedy, drama or melodrama.

Triunfo del Amor had a high body count and nobody got punished for it. For a comedy, Llena de amor had a high body count, but Fedra met a gruesome end. For a drama, with lots of bad guys, Fuerza del Destino has a low body count.

We usually keep a list of people who get bumped off during other tns, or at least a list of crimes. We haven't done that here. Fina's list would be long.

Fina's Murders:
-Roberto
-Rafa
-Ex-boyfriend/mayor
-Detective Cantu (convinced ex-boyfriend to do it)
Attempted Murder/Assault:
-Gina (3 times)
-Gonzo (2 times)
-Connie
-Young Maid
-Gardner
-Dona Cata (who died of heart attack because of it)
-Diego (to get cell phone recording)
-Nata (multiple assaults over her lifetime)
Kidnapping:
-Nata
Blackmail:
-Gina
-Berta

Trader Joes is a grocery and sundries store and food temple. There is some apocryphal story about the founder returning from Europe and sourcing great food items cheap on behalf of "starving" university professors.

Whatever its beginnings, Traders Joes has become a foodie phenom. Small stores, high quality but somewhat random selection, great wine buys and lots of organic, healthy stuff.

Hope you get one in Utah soon!

My TN work friend saw FC in his play last night. He said it was surreal after seeing him in TNs for years to see him in person. He liked it.

Hi Robey and Diana. I had begun to worry about both of you. I'm glad you checked in.

Robey, you and I might not see eye to eye on Mati's charming cuteness but we certainly agree about Kari and Laz. I really hope that we're allowed to tag along on a wide-eyed tout of Mexico City with these two. Maybe they'll bump into Germy and
Robi and of course have a meal at Chema's la Parilla.

Diana, I can always count on you to be appreciative and to mention some of I my favorite little nuggets that I slip in that I fear might slip by unnoticed.

I'm glad that you (as well as many others) enjoy the photos. It's fun and relaxing to go through and select a few photos after the recap is written.

Carlos

Mary... spanking?

Vivi, don't we need to add little Amparo to the list of kidnapping victims?

Carlos

Carlos: I usually read Friday's show recap over the weekend, but since I read it on my phone, it's too hard to make all the comments I want to make, so I wait for Monday and my work computer for that. And of course, I have to read through all the awesome comments before making my own.

I like Mati better now than I did at first, I just don't like it when she reverts to bratty teenager mode. I'd like her to be sassy, grown-up Mati.

My word verification is "shema" which makes me miss Chema.

Robey

Mary, nah, just dress like a nun and whack Jero's knuckles w/ a ruler, a la the Blues Brothers. Send the boy on a mission from God.
