El Talismán #31 Wed 3/14/12 writers are finally earning their chamba; Lookraz needs to study mechanics... and panchito's scary day
Here goes--2nd Verse, Same as the First.
If you watched yesterday's and missed today's, you didn't miss much.
Elvira is reassured of Renato's wealthy status after having a serious discussion with Secretario-guy. She also learns that he has no other amante, although he did have his aventuras when he was much younger. She'll be back tomorrow to redecorate the whole house, which she thinks looks frio (Secretario-guy looks sick).
Antonio and Piggorio have a father and son discussion about wills. I think Tonio has the will to outlast Piggo. Where are we with the poisoning? PapaPiggo seems pretty healthy to me right now.
P&C are still in Tijuana. Cami has dudas about Pedro when she hears him speak Mariana's name outloud in a dream. She WANTS to know if he loved Mariana enough for her to become his mujer. Muy impactado Pedro finally swears his love for Cami and swears she's the only person he's ever loved. Smoochies.
There are two very creepy dream sequences in this episode. Lukrazia has found Mariana's address book. She brings it into Pedro's room and stretches out provocatively on his bed and dreams of haciendo el amor with Pedro. She wakes to find him AWOL. That puts her in a snit.
Antonio's begins his episode by choosing one of two "escorts" he brought in (actually his bottle makes three) to accompany him to a room in The Only Hotel INN--Fresno. He orders the "pro" to fix herself up like the girl in a photo he hands her. My, my it's of Camila
...Lo and Behold!! Not only did the Stand-In Camila do a superb job of looking like Camila, she even sounds like her, too. Antonio's dream involves some licking (yuck).
Flo visits Claudio over at El Tal to intentar a relationship, although she prefers to remain good friends--then she comes up with "friends with benefits" (another yuck in the making?). She almost gets caught by Genov (no prob), although she gets hysterical. Then she does get caught by Mama Doris who is just on her way out the door with her suitcase (no prob), although Flo doesn't see anything wrong with this picture.
Renato has decided to have a boda day after tomorrow. He gets Armando to help him get a surprise boda ready. Armando grills him again about whether he's deceiving his mother. Renato gets insulted and nearly cancels the whole thing (yeah, like crossed fingers and tongue in cheek).
To pay for the boda, Renato seeks out Tracy. Yes, in all his munificence, he'll let her go--NO WAY, REALLY? Yes, yes, but first you have to give me ALL your money.
Armando calls Pedro at the sacristy. Are they in a different time zone? Everybody in Tijuana is asleep while everyone in Fresno is awake. Armando wants to reassure Camila that Renato is on the up and up, because Renato said so.
One scene I forgot to include was the police detective visiting El Tal and talking to Aunt Pat about the phone call. He says he will reopen the case, but they should be very discrete, because if it gets out it could start tongues wagging about Pedro again. Lukrazier just happens to overhear that from her perch upstairs.
Your faithful scribe,
Anita

love 'because Renato said so. '... that whole skid of Armani believing just by Rennie's word is so silly... good thing Pedro is not so convinced...
and Rennie and Tracy 'this is a stick-up!' well, the plot thickens but at same time gets more unbelievable than ever... if that is possible...
poor Panchito was about to pee in his pants... TWICE!
Anita, ITA with your statement about two creepy dream sequences. In fact, I had to laugh at your "yucky" editorial comments. It was kind of a yucky episode. My favorite line from your recap: "...Mama Doris who is just on her way out the door with her suitcase (no prob), although Flo doesn't see anything wrong with this picture." Honestly, if I were Doris's daughters I would be peeping in that mysterious suitcase at the first opportunity. Aren't they curious why mom always heads out with a suitcase? Weird. Also, your observation about the time zone. As far as I know Fresno and Tijuana are in the same zone. Good catch!
Marta, thank you too for your recap. There were a few details that were a bit hazy for me but you cleared them right up.
"he is still sleeping… why don’t you wake him up with a kiss and ask him, you stupid version of princess charming??" That's hilarious! One of your funniest comments ever.
I think Armani might be stupider than Pedro though, the way he so easily believes Renato.
Marta, poor Panchito is in WAY over his head in his dealings with Pigorio. He should look at the way El Pig treats Antonio to get a clue how the father treats his son.
I thought the raging argument between Antonio and Pigorio was one of the best scenes this show has offered. It helped show that there is a long history of bad feelings between father and son. It even looked like the massive unibrow showed a touch of sadness at the end.
Anita and Marta, thanks to you both for your recaps! You two rock.
Rosemary Primera - Wasn't Elvira's walk so awful today? You are right that Julieta did not walk like that in CME. In fact one evening I did a "Wish List" comment and I remember putting that I wished I had Regina's posture. So what gives? She can't be doing that on purpose, can she? Maybe Fina's bullet lodged in her tailbone?
Now, off to finish my Grisham. In English, I am sad to say.
Rosemary la Otra
And Renato, can Tracy really fal in with his threats so easily? Tell Tia to take a little holiday if Rennie calls la Migra. Furthermore, she could report him to the police for theft and fraud. Good grief.
Thanks again ladies.
EJ
I saw a bit of this today at the end when Tony had his Camila fantasy. I just went back and read the article about the troubles on set. Wow! Not surprising though. If they are thinking about replacing RN with Mario Cimarron, you are in for an even more expressionless galan. I saw a bit of Mario in the daytime tn Mar de Amor and the Telemundo Herederos de Monte. The guy looks like he's sleepwalking.
Glad that Cami and Pedro got to TJ, but they don't seem to be doing much there, other than sleeping (and NOT with each other, which would have been interesting.
A notable line from each:
Anita: "(another yuck in the making?)"
"'...but something is really strange happening here.'"
Those two in particular struck me as both funny and cogent.
Vivi,
"If they are thinking about replacing RN with Mario Cimarron, you are in for an even more expressionless galan."
Perhaps, as we've all noticed the past couple of episodes, Rafael Novoa has gotten a bit too lively and engaged.
My favorite scene was an all too brief (some may say too long) glimpse of our pudgy redhead Oscar lifelessly sprawled all over the bed behind Rita as she was on the phone with Renato. She must be very effective at what she does.
Carlos

well, maybe THAT is what they did not like, a galan that can think and an actor who won't take crap script for long...
ROFLOL at your last statement.. about OScar lifelessly sprawled all over the bed after the 'deed' with Rita... you are right, she MUST be something, maybe Bridgette can hire her at her 'house of masks'.. she would be a STAR there.
I think they get a different writer every day.
Pedro (RN) is one of the best things about this show, and his acting has been so enjoyable as of late. It seems to me he knew it was bad and figured what-the-who and decided to have fun. By letting loose, he got better, just like Aaron Diaz, who sees the comical side to this tn. Julieta Rosen is also having fun talking about redecorating the big house with Pink Panthery music in the background.
Carlos - I spy with my little eye Oscar's head in a bed. Funny split second shot that I had to re-wind.
Repeat from comment I left on the previous recap about this episode:
- My favorite line was Camila saying to Pedro "tuve que enamorar de un hombre tan complicado como tu". That really had me rolling.
-Speaking of rolling - Doris and her suitcase and nobody asking where she is going is just bizarre. So was when the girls worried that Dad had hurt Mom, but they didn't go check, even when Dad came to their room. I recommend Doris buy a big gym bag, join a 24 hour gym and at least tell the girls "off to my workout".
Thanks again, Marta and Anita!
R la O
I guess that since our protagonistas are both such prudes, the only way to sneak in those salicious shots the audience is waiting for is in the dreams of the dreams of the less than prudish incestuous duo. (Lu dreams of the Pi Man and Tony of Cami)
With our luck, the only gratuitous shower scenes may be at the Only Health Spa in Fresno where Pigorio and Oscar meet by chance in the locker room.
NM, EWWWWWW!!! glad i was not eating or sipping my coffee at time.
Martaivett--Please accept my ABJECT apologies. I had no idea anyone of your stature would be doing a recap.
I didn't know there were going to be posted recaps anymore. My sorry little review was for the comment section only--where I noted a dearth of recapitulations since we went off prime time.
I won't intrude again, promise.
Anita
as much as I will miss Rodrigo Vidal as Panchito...
Novela Maven, NOOOOOOO! Gah, hack, patooey!!
Can't promise to keep up the reviews. If Pedro goes, I'm apt to go, too, although I would like to see Doris unmasked, Renato in jail for fraud, Lucrecia laid bare (your interpretation), Antonio in AA, Piggorio barbecued (and Panchito using his hands to eat the bacon) and Elvira deheadbanded. Oh, and maybe have Mariana show up. The rest can go to Fresno, for real.
Right now I'm working my way through Montecristo (Diego Olivera) on-line and Mi Destino Eres Tu (DVD with Jorge Salinas and Lucero). I've been watching Abismo with one eye open and with rapt attention to LQNPA. It's like overdosing on cupcakes (or Twinkies).
Anita

good wish list!
i will add that i want to see Panchito and Tracy owning 'traz
Elvira deserves to work in a kitchen for the rest of her life... that way she will have to wear aprons and nets on hair, and smell all kinds of stuff... or even make 'lucious' or'deurs for other people's parties... to see if she likes being on that side.
what do we do with Rita?
LOVE the Antonio in AA...
Tracy and Panchito can keep 'traz.
Pedro can take Cameela back to Mex to help him with the orphanage... all other Najeras and Negretes can scram! or just... go away
Anita
Oh goodie, it's 1:00, time to check in with the Fresno Freakazoids and see LuKrazy thrown in the slammer.
You throw the guy in a manure pit and then complain that he stinks???
Come on, Venenovision. That ain't fair!
As for Rafa (maybe) getting canned --
You throw the guy in a manure pit and then complain that he stinks???
Come on, Venenovision. That ain't fair!
AMEN TO THAT !!
i have wondered why Rafa is in this from day 1. held on to his smiles on the finale of ACA for as long as i did not need the space on dvdr... but had to delete it eventually, it made me cry when i thought he could b THAT good (and also in Pura Sangre, EVEN BETTER) and be in this mess THAT bad...
Man, I'm feeling the pressure. A review is coming, bear with me. This episode is what I call a whip-lash, mishmash rehash.
Anita
Here's the quick a dirty--the clean version comes after LQNPA.
Every 14 1/2 seconds we got a scene change. Wow.
Panchito grew a pair and he's got Valentin's in a nut cracker.
We get a gratuitous "water scene." It's Brigitte in a bubble bath. Sorry, folks, it wasn't Antonio. He's in bed with a muchachita.
Lucrecia calls Antonio after being taken to the police station to GET ME OUT OF HERE. She calls the number of his hotel room. (I guess he has a standing reservation for that room and she's memorized it.)
Armando says TEXT ME....is this a set up for crossed signals, or are the writers trying to prove how hip this tn is that they don't have to use a cell phone connection.
Antonio and Muchachita cum/Camila/cum/Mariana share a warm beer before breakfast.
Anita

This is what I was trying to post earlier:
El Tal's loss is any other TN's gain. I thought Rafa Novoa was spectacular in "Pura Sangre" and his cameo in "Manana es Para Siempre" was a tip of the hat to the actor and the "Pura" story.
I have noticed a lot of Venezuelan, Colombian and Cuban actors (and their managers) see the Miami/Telenovela production scene as a stepping stone into more/"better" roles. Telemundo-Televisa have some reciprochal arrangement to share actors...maybe Uni/Veni got the shaft. I have not been enamored with the Venevision formula pre "Eva Luna". I didn't care for EL much either. I guess all the various entities are trying to squeeze as much dinero as they can out of these productions......hence the lazy, poor writing and plot lines. As I mentioned in a prior post, I have been lurking for a while and have watched a lot of TNs. I started to improve my spanish. The first one, which got me hooked was the original Colombian "Yo Soy Betty La Fea". Great way to start my telenovela addiction.
Today Camila and Pedro seem to be simpatico in TJ, but once they return to "Fresno" I see an anvil in their midst.......I am going to keep taping/watching in hopes it gets better, but I am not too hopeful.
sf chica bonita
Also laughed at "Panchito grew a pair and he's got Valentin's in a nut cracker". Well you just knew I'd like that, didn't you?
Armani's Text Me moment was hilarious when Renato grumbled "I hate technology". I laughed because I really feel that pain sometimes.
Oh man, Antonio is going down that slippery slope of crazitude, no doubt about it.
sf chica bonita, thank you for your insights. I some of the last episodes of the original Yo Soy Betty La Fea. I really liked it a lot, not to mention the wonderful accordion, tango-type music throughout. It seemed very different than any other TN I have ever watched.
Marta, funny thread about the barn-burning scene. I can't believe we haven't had a fire yet on El Tal.
These scenes try to inject some continuity. Some are out of order, but should make sense.
Scenes in Tijuana—Pedro & Camila spend some quality time on the sofa in the church office. They go together to visit Sister Luciana’s grave. They promise her that they will return to TJ to open a Casa de Huerfanos.
Aunt Pat calls Pedro to tell him that Lukrazy was arrested for attempted homicide. Pedro and Cam natter on about Lukrazier. They find out the Mariana phone call came from a public phone in Fresno. Camila thinks that Mariana is very close to being able to be found (think, girl, think about it some more…). The Padre comes running up to tell the pair that someone in TJ will buy ALL of El Tal’s grano. Yippee, no bancarota for Pedro.
Scenes at Rita’s—Renato gets the money (it was in the fridge). He lets Tracy go, but hedges about leaving her and her familia en paz. She’ll just have to trust him. With nowhere to go, Tracy goes to see Panchito at El Al.
Scenes in El Alcat—The girls are nattering on about boyfriends. Panchito and Valentin natter on about whose side Valentin is on and oh-ho, Pancho has had his eye on him and he’s onto him, he KNOWS he’s on Antonio’s side (woe be to him now). Valentin tries to show him the logic behind his decision—Antonio is younger and healthier while Gregorio is old and sick. Uh-uh, says Panchito, WRONG.
Panchito leaves Valentin with a warning—make up your mind whose side you are going to be on, and make it up quick. If you choose Antonio, rest assured Panchito will tell the patron on you.
Panchito and Tracy come to an acuerdo—she will not share his digs, although they obviously need a woman’s touch. Panchito uses his influence with Greggy and gets her old job back. There’s lots of squealing when he tells her.
Oh, somewhere in the midst of all this a lovely leg protrudes from a vast bubble bath, what can we hope? Oh, shoot, it’s Brigitte taking a phone call from Greggo wanting to know wassup with Lucas.
Back to Panchito. Daddy-O tells him to get over to El Tal quick as a bunny to find out if LuLu really is going to give part of the ranch to Pedro (Greggy, my friend, you don’t need to worry about this just yet…she is going to do this, how? what’s the hurry, anyway). So, Gregorio doesn’t know LuLu went to jail. Alberta and Tracy natter on about Antonio and the rancho.
Scenes in El Tal—Lucrazie natters on to Claudio about Flo and how it’s all going to work out. Later, Clau, Gab & Sara natter on about the Mariana phone calls. Sara thinks it was a set up engineered by Lucrezzi. Claudio defends her (duh). They check out La Viejita with the Hon. Detective Teniente. He’s sure that whoever tampered with it didn’t know what they were doing, so instead of cutting the brake line, he (or she) just disabled it. Aunt Pat is sure it was Lukrashia. We see LuLu running around her room trying to hide the infamous pincers. Well, she and the pincers are caught in flagrante delicto and she’s hauled off to jail for some ‘splaining.
END PART I
PART II
Scenes in the Jail—She protests her innocence. It doesn’t phase El Detective, no siree. Rules are rules and he can’t just let her go because she says she’s innocent. She needs to get a lawyer and post bail.
LuLu tries blaming Camila—That zorra is full of jealousy because Pedro has a thing for her. For Pete’s sake (Not our Pedro), officer, she doesn’t even live at El Tal, so how is she going to know where stuff is kept (like pincers). La señorita doth protesta demasiado (are you listening Mr. El D?). Guess so, Our Little Lulu is put away for suspicion of intent to commit a homicide, oh my. She drops her dime on Antonio to get her out of there ASAP.
Antonio visits Sis in jail. Do the writers think this is Mexico, where any old person can come and go and sit in a holding cell with someone accused of attempted homicide? Anyway, they have a rough embrace—ya, glad to see you, too, brylcreme head, but I’m not going to touch it.
Bro warns her not to do anything to Camila, while LuLu doesn’t want anything to happen to Pedro. Quandary—dilemma. El D. tries to pump Tonio about his sister’s past. Tonio finds the line of questioning offensive and doesn’t answer (but he’s running it around his empty head as viewerville is treated to some commercials). We don’t see what he decided because we don’t see him any more tonight.
Finally, Daddy-O has been informed LuLu is in jail and comes to the rescue. He puts things straight. Daughter, you’d better play the game my way or you are going to end up in a manicomio, and I’ll be the one who sends you there. (This is actually the last scene of the evening.)
Scenes in The Only Hotel Inn™ Fresno/Oscar’s Place—Elvira and Armando are nattering on about “the girl” who came to see him. She knows he’s not forthcoming with the truth. He finally spills the beans about the boda being in two days time. The music freaks out; Elvira freaks out.
Armando is invited to the Renato’s mansion (I mean Oscar’s mansion). Renato prepares the staff and prides himself on how easy it is going to be to manipulate mama and her son—and the heck with Camila, he’s not afraid of HER.
Secretario-guy has a hot chisme for Renato—that Camila’s novio, PI Man, murdered his wife, sí, sí, it’s all over town. Meanwhile, Armando’s amazed at all the lujo in the house. Renato’s definitely rich.
Back to Antonio who’s still in bed at the Hotel. Next to him is the little tart who dressed up as Camila for him, but it turns out she’s the same one that provided the voice for Mariana.
The room phone rings. It’s sissy from jail. Antonio is furioso with her. He flings the receiver down--It’s all Pedro’s fault (he uses a disparaging remark to describe Pedro). He throws money at the little tart and tells her to largate, but reverses direction when she reminds him that she is playing Mariana. Great, he has another idea.
Elvira is ready to leave the hotel and runs into Antonio in the lobby. He reminds her that he still OWNS her. It doesn’t matter one whit that she is starting a new life along side her husband-to-be, Renato. Uh-uh, you will live your whole life knowing you are UNA ASESINA. Gulp.
END OF EPISODE
Anita, I'm going to post your recap as, well, as a recap on the main page. I like separating out the comments, especially since we no longer get the email notification of updates.
