El Talismán #34-35 Mon 3/19/12 In Which the Wardrobe Department Raids a Costume Shop

...and everybody gets new outfits!

Elvira has a brand-new fake-designer surprise-wedding dress; now she wants Armando to call up Renato and tell him she doesn't have a thing to wear with it and he needs to buy her some accessories. OK then, Armando makes her call Fabiola and tell her he can't come over coz he's got a tummyache. Srsly! These two get weirder all the time.

Sarita has a Little Red Riding Hood outfit: enough said.

Lulu waltzes into the upstairs hall in a brand-new red bustier and high-heels, drops a vase of flowers on the ground, and when Camila comes out to investigate -- she jumps into bed with Pedro! Camila for once is not buying it, but they have a big ol' screaming match anyway.

Oscar the Butterball buys Rita a little French maid's outfit. Enough said about that as well, although the expression on Rita's face is pretty priceless.

Madame B's girls are tarted up as usual, but this time they're just scenery as Antonio and the Pig nearly come to blows in the foyer. Both of them want "Catherine," but she tells them she's with someone else. The management finally breaks up the fight by pouring more cognac into Tony and sending the Pig home where he is promised "a surprise."

Meanwhile, Armando is lounging around barefoot, and God, his feet are uglier than his doofy tennishoes. Put them back on, please!

Renato seems to have an infinite number of pairs of white pants, all of which he is wearing after Labor Day, gauche that he is.

Big ending: "Catherine" shows up in the Pig's bedroom and lays one on him. She's wearing a tiny little eye-mask that even he can see through -- and he does. YUCK, IT'S YOU! He freaks out and wipes his mouth. She says she has tricks that will make him forget she's his daughter-in-law...and, judging from the previews, she gets to use them.

Thanks, Blue Lass, for filling in for Anita. You make a great jr. reporter for FUG.

That was a good ending! I loved how sick to his stomach he seemed when he recognized Doris and how he wiped his mouth. I would have thought his reaction would be more mad than nauseated.

Enough said about the Little Red Riding Hood outfit? Oh no it's not. We MUST hash this over and over! What is with her? Didn't he previously tell her he was tired of all the dress-up? These scenes come up so out of the blue and are so funny.

I loved Brigette's black and white dress.

Armando has to make sure his mom is asleep before he can step out to make a call? What a woos. Grow a pair (of avocados) already!

Lucrecia really is a sick puppy. I think Carlos should rue the day he helped her escape from the hospital. She could be getting much needed help, and stalking one of the orderlies at the manicomio by now.

I noticed how Camila took time to put on slippers (very long slippers) when Tracy came to visit. I guess that was in prep for the broken vase. Stupid Slutcrecia. How did she think Camila would not see through that? Duh, a broken vase in the middle of the hall where there is no table from which it fell.

Either my cable or my DVR kept cutting out so I missed a good chunk of Elvira's call to F1. F1 acted that scene well. She was nervous and excited and trying to be all sweet to her bf's mom. Elviral was unmoved.

Can't wait for the boda! Hopefully tomorrow.

Thanks again Blue Lass.

Rosemary la Otra

I'm surprised Tracy comes to visit at all, since Camila spent the whole time either arguing with Lucrazy or on the phone with goofy Armando. It was super-rude. And nobody cleaned up the broken glass!

And I actually have to side with Elvira, although I can't believe I'm saying it. It's her wedding, such as it is -- or isn't -- anyway, she doesn't have to invite Pedro if she doesn't want to. Jeez.

Thanks for keeping the spirit alive, Blue Lass. This show and the Talismaniacs are so much fun.

I can't believe I'm watching DWtS with the Lovely Linda. I'm not a big WL fan but he and Cheryl B sure wowed everyone. Highest score (24) so far tonight.

An odd turn for Antonio tonight. Early in the TN he made it clear that he prefers Cognac to Tequila. In one episode he was drinking Tequila and when asked about it by Lu, he said that he drinks his dad's Tequila just to annoy him. Yet tonight he said that he drinks Tequila. Bipolar or new writers?

I almost felt sorry for the Pig tonight. He was very uncomfortable and looked about ready to pop an aneurysm.

I'm getting a kick out of Sara playing dress up. These quick little scenes are so wonderfully irrelevant.

Carlos

True, Blue, Elvira can invite whomever she wants to her wedding. It's just the reason WHY she doesn't want him there that is disgusting. She's going to continue to believe Antonio's version of Pedro being a wife-killer after she's seen Antonio's true side? And she hasn't even given him a chance.

If I felt her real motive for disliking Pedro was out of concern for her daughter's safety, I could see that. I wouldn't want my daughter to date anyone who has any suspicion of murder hanging over them. However, I don't think that is it at all.

R la O

Ah Blue Lass, bless you for keeping the faith and posting tonight's recap.

New favorite character: Sara! I love her ingenuity in trying to perk up the Fresno landscape. Kitty, Red Riding Hood, I can't wait to see what's next.

Question: Why is LooKrazia still at El Tal? Everyone there hates her and the key players believe she sabotaged the breaks in La Vieja. These stupid details drive me nuts.

Blue Lass, I think I'm going to differ with you on the Elvira-gets-to-choose-her-guests issue. Pedro is not the invitee, he is the guest of the bride's daughter. Any gracious bride would invite whom she wants and accept their dates (barring an extreme circumstance, social class not being one of them). At the worst she would begrudgingly tolerate said date. Elvira is just tacky, period.

Carlos, I watched DWTS tonight. I don't usually partake but what a great show! Every 'star' did a superb job. I think our William is very lucky to be paired with Cheryl Burke.

thanks for filling in Blue Lass..
LOVED your summary..
Srsly! These two get weirder all the time. DEFINITELY!!
Elviral will be COOCOO when she realizes she picked the poorest of the scheemers... as her PRINCE!

Rosemary...
Grow a pair (of avocados) already!
AMEN TO THAT!

Carlos, I too almost felt sorry for the Pig tonight. He was very uncomfortable and looked about ready to pop an aneurysm.

The whole skid of Elviral not wanting Cameela to invite Pedro reminded me of the stories my husband used to come home with when he played with his group latin music at weddings... one time he played at a wedding of two folks from two different social groups (latin/african american I believe) and he told me the groom's dad/uncle and the father of the bride went at it right in the middle of the dance floor (no, they were not dancing, hehe...)

On a more serious note... can anyone switch recap/summary nights with me so i don't have to do two on same night? I would take any other weekday but wednesdays...

Sylvia, I agree that the DWTS was a great show... that football player can move!...
and William Levy looked a bit awkward, like he is still a bit clumsy but he did much better than I anticipated... he certainly put on a deception play with his comments before the performance...

Thanks for keeping the torch of tawdriness aflame, Blue Lass!

Maybe we're being set up for the reveal that Pigorio is Fabi's father -- that's been Doris's hold over him all these years ...

DWTS -- hey I recorded and FF'd to sweet William's part. Oh my. He didn't get the most points but I think he had the largest number of people in love with him (especially the judges!). Did you vote? I did! LOL

Yes, Donald Driver can move -- you should see him on the field! But oh, sweet William, with or without a kayak!

NM - about the father - daughter eyebrow revelation: I noticed how F1 told Elvira she was excited for her parents to meet Armani "especially my dad" , setting up the devastation she will feel.

Thanks for the recap Blue Lass! Oh the intrigue and potential horror of Piggy with Doris. I don't know if I should look away or not.

With all the talk of manicomio, it seems Lucrazy is destine to go there as our TN concludes. It will be interesting to see if her father and brother go to prison or die.

I am eagerly awaiting when El Viral realizes she's been had and took!

Thank you, intrepid reporter Blue Lass!

Didn't Pedro tell Lucrazy before he left for Tijuana that she had to be gone before he came back? Why does he put up with her nonsense? He's such a spineless jellyfish. Can't he at least put her on a plane to her one friend in Texas?

Why did Doris decide to take her work home? Is she trying to get caught?

Isn't that whorehouse just an elegant and pleasant social scene? At least when the Negrete men aren't there at the same time. Elvira could never get a job there...she's too TACKY.

The poor F girls are turning into neurotic messes. Can we please have the Jose/Armando unmasking soon? I could hardly believe it when he had his mommy call to say he was sick...and that's what he used his getting-her-jewelry bargaining chip for. What a drip.

I thought Donald and Roshon both danced better than WL, but our telenovio certainly seemed to have the popular vote. He wasn't bad, though...I think he could be really good with more practice.

Marta--I can recap Wednesday if you recap Thursday.

Waaay OT, but, I'm back, still on cloud nine, basking in the glow of my current and most permanent heartthrob in the operatic cosmos, Juan Diego Florez (very cute Peruvian tenor).

We attended an interview and were able to get up close and personal. Next week we are off to the opera performance itself (regrettably, no HD broadcast of this production).

He dances in the Elixer of Love--his own little interpretation of Michael Jackson's moon walk, 80's dance steps, ballet pose and a few others. Maybe DWtS could recruit him for the next series, haha.

Here he is--start watching at min. 6, if you don't want to watch the whole thing (only 7.28 min. long)

Anita

Oh, and Blue Lass--I sort of forgot the whole ElTal thing there for a moment.

Thank you for the recap--haven't even watched my recording yet, but now I know the only surprise is Doris trying to do the nasty with El Nasty himself AND, no boda yet, grrr. I wanted to see the fur begin to fly.
Anita

why oh why do pedro and Cameela have to repeat the same lines several times each time they argue about Lucrecia and her family?
and yes, lets get that wedding going. I was laughing when Elviral was telling Armani she was going to ask Rennie for a checking account in her name as wedding present so she could go shopping at her hearts content... Armani just stared at her, yes he is rich, but is that all you can think of?

Blue Lass, thanks again for your recaps and faithful posting. You rock! I'm so glad we are still snarking over this telenovela because it is so much fun to watch and dis on. Your last paragraph was my absolute favorite. The Doris/Pigorio pairing 100% grosses me out. YUCK is right. I can't believe I actually re-watched that scene again today. I think I must be sick.

Wheee! I can't wait for the wedding. I'm sure El Viral will be in top (i.e. bottom) form and behave all sorts of bad.

Anita, wow what a cute tenor! Thanks for sharing the link. I can see why you are enamored.

Why am I still getting the feeling that the writer(s) forget stuff they have put in previous lines? Marta, to answer your question about repeat conversations, I think it is pure laziness. Hopefully the new writer will be an improvement.

Sismo en Mexico coverage is making me miss El Tal! I hope all are fine in Mexico. Jarocha, please check in!

Worried I will miss la boda.

I thought it was very revealing that there was something about Catherine that made her unappealing to Antonio, but yet he wanted her anyway since his daddy wanted her.

I don't understand (remember?) why Armando couldn't (wouldn't?) answer Fabiola's phone calls or at least call her back. It certainly couldn't have been that he didn't have the time. If there's one thing that he has in abundance...

Carlos

praying everyone in Mex is alright.

Carlos, yes a very interesting scene. I'm not sure it was entirely believable that Antonio looked straight into Catherine's eyes yet did not recognize his wife. I suppose it's possible he has never actually looked into Doris's eyes, heh.

Thanks, guys. Wish I could have given it the full treatment...

Top o' the comments:

"Grow a pair (of avocados) already!" (R la O)

"Bipolar or new writers?" (Carlos)

"Keeping the torch of tawdriness aflame" (NM -- the Talismaniacs' new motto, perhaps?)

"the intrigue and potential horror of Piggy with Doris" (Karen)

"Elvira could never get a job [at Madame Brigitte's]...she's too TACKY." (Julia)

"I think I must be sick." (Cap'n Sylvia)

Boda today, perhaps? Or will they drag it out even longer?

Has anyone heard from Jarocha?

Did I miss the boda today? The show was pre-empted by the special report of the quake.

¡Todavía no boda! ¿Lo crees?

Here's what we got:

Lu & Tony are hatchin' a new plot to separate Cam & Pedro. No details yet, but Lu is pretending to leave El Tal on her own and Tony is meeting Camila somewhere to "talk about the Lucrezia problem."

Doris got the Pig in the sack. It's just too creepy for words. Apparently they're going to keep it up, too -- but in secret.

Cam put on un verdadero nocaut of a dress and went to threaten Renato at Oscar's house. It's worth tuning into the last 15 minutes just to see the dress. Man, that girl cleans up good.

F2 is warming up to Claudio a little. Not really much of a plot point, but I feel sorry for the guy.

Gotta go -- I'm needed in La Eremita.

El Tal showed in my area, no preemption.

Blue Lass, thanks for the update on today's creepisode. I just have to recount what El Pig said to Doris after he porked her. He said he would keep it confidential that she is a harlot, "but in return you'll serve me like a king in bed. Every time I ask you to." YUCK!! And then she smiled like she'd won a victory.

Oh, and Rita was so pithed off after playing dress-up with Oscar that she called Renato and demanded half of Elvira's money.

Jarocha is fine
But I missed El Talisman
So no haiku hoy.

Blue Lass and Sylvia - Thanks for the details you threw my way. I am delighted I did not miss the boda, and possibly relieved I missed Doris and Pig in the blankets.

Hopefully they will show Camila's dress again tomorrow, along with F2 and Claudio and Oscar. Looks like those were the main things I missed.

Thanks again Guys!

R la O

Pig in the blankets
Keep your shirt on -- metaphor?
Think again Pigster.

Pig in blankets! Ha ha! I don't know whether to laugh or toss my cookies -- maybe I'll do both.

Oh, man. The pig in a blanket scenes were SO GROSS. My skin was crawling. And Doris's smug smile after he declared she'd be his sex slave? Bleh. How is that a win?

Flor keeps going on about being friends with benefits with Claudio but I think he and I are both wondering what the benefits are. They're barely even friends.

I loved when Cam suggested that Lucrazy could get a job and Pedro was just dumbfounded. Hey, what a novel idea...a thirty-something woman could possibly work and support herself rather than freeloading forever! Now if Cam would just cut off her mother's allowance like four years ago.

Oh, one thing I thought was funny...Pedro trying on his new suit, and Sarita admiring how handsome he looked and getting an idea for a new costume...

Why does Pedro believe that Lucrazy can't go live on her own? We haven't heard that the Big Pig has cut off her allowance. Even if he did, Antonio could probably slide her the money to rent a place. Daddy seems to keep his booze, boinkage, and blackmail budget topped right up.

Julia--Loved your 3B-budget of Don G.

Martaivett--if you are out there, I will be doing a semi-recap.

I thought last week's gave me whip-lash. Today's made me seasick (apologies to the Cap'n). I'll let you know when it is ready, Sylvia.

This novela has clearly found its place in The Theatre of the Absurd.
Anita

Are you recapping today's epi, Anita? I'll be happy to post it for you...

We get to see Camila's dress again today. It is just so pretty! Or like Blue Lass said "verdadero nocaut".

It's a headband to go with the wedding dress. A headband made out of the cotton rope one puts around the face during a treatment.
Then a scarf with grasshoppers on it tied at the end of her braid?

Blue Lass--I'm working on it now. The only way I know how to do it is to post it here as a comment. It's pretty long.

Is there another way to do it so it doesn't show up in the comments?
Anita

Anita, how do you feel about posting your real e-mail address? If you do, I can send you mine, and then you can e-mail your post to me. (I'm anonymous, so I don't like to publish mine, although I don't mind giving it to people.)

Blue Lass - I'm not very anonymous, so here goes: almeg At verizon dot Com

i sent out the recap for wed. hopefully someone will post it.

Marta, I thought you and Anita were switching -- that's what I thought the comments said -- now we have two recaps! What to do...?

If you send me yours, I can post them both. I think Sylvia's still asleep after recapping Abismo late last night.
