Abismo de pasión #18 4/4/12: Poor Damian, everyone treats him as hostile witness; a match made in heaven? ... NOT! he loves EL CAMPO life... Princess poop... not so much.
Labels: abismo
sorry but Alf makes me Barf ...
Princess Poop i want to boot...
I WANT MY PADRE LUPE!!!
Paolo likes 'em young. Kenya is 17 and Sabrina doesn't look much older than that. Also Kenya sounds like she's embarazada to be tracking down Paolo like that.
Paolo & Damian do not like each other.
Florencia's mother is dead and Guido buries himself in work to cope.
Observations & Questions:
Sabrina's salon must not be booming with business if she has time to stand around gossiping and then hopping on some random dude's bike.
Paolo's pursuit of Elisa is going to bring out the green-eyed beast in Damian full force. Flo & Fina will not be pleased.
Tonia is extremely insecure re: Lolita, who was minding her business with Horacio when she & Braulio walked up. Newsflash lady: it is not Lolita's fault you are passing off Gabino's kid at Braulio's to trap him and it's not Lolita's fault Braulio keeps asking Lucio about Lolita.
I wonder if the broke down La Anita truck is one of Gabino's "Buy 'em used & broke down but paint them to look like new" specials?
I still want to know if Papa Bouvier gave 100% of the land to Estefania (who then is giving Elisa 100% of the land) or did he give Estefania 50% and Carmina 50%?
My favorite line: "Toadhead leaves Medusa hot and messy screaming she will never forgive him", what a perfect description. Didn't you just know she was gonna get some one way or another?
Speaking of which, Dr. Inmundo, LOL!!! And Shakespeare tragedy is right. Carmeany is one helluva lying drama queen.
I have a question, if Medusa is so sick of hearing about Stef why does she keep bringing her up? And in the bedroom. Ack!
My goodness but that Kenya is a very mature-looking 17.
Elisa and Gael were so cute when they were in the habanero fields. I loved Elisa's hat.
Clearly Damian was also very moved by his visit to the fields. Good! Princess Poop (Hee!! Love it!) thinks she's so in control. Just wait until her little world starts spiraling out of control. By the way, I think her dad Guido is kind of hot.
Thanks Marta! I'm not kidding, this was one of your best recaps ever, and that's saying a lot since they yours are always the best.
Paolo's pursuit of Elisa is going to bring out the green-eyed beast in Damian full force. Flo & Fina will not be pleased.
well, the green virus will go around all of La Ermita...
Dam will feel hulky about Paolo approaching Elisa...
Gael will feel hulky seeing Dam with Elisa,
Elisa will feel hulky when she sees Flo and Dam...
Paloma will feel hulky seeing Gael showing face for Elisa ...
Flo will get green or maybe tomato red at seeing Dam and Elisa together...
and so on...
"I wonder if the broke down La Anita truck is one of Gabino's "Buy 'em used & broke down but paint them to look like new" specials?" - I wondered the exact same thing. I'm thinking...YES.
"I still want to know if Papa Bouvier gave 100% of the land to Estefania (who then is giving Elisa 100% of the land) or did he give Estefania 50% and Carmina 50%?" - I am still wondering that too. If Stef was the oldest he might have given it to her 100%. Let's hope so.
Marta, nope, I don't think Paloma is going to be bored in her job.
Hulky...I like it! Don't be surprised if you see that pop up in future recaps.
yeah! good observation Sylvia!! and by contrast Princess Poop was soooo out of her comfort zone...
Wasn't it cool how Gael suggested that Damian's, ahem, Pro-Me-Tida should ride with Elisa on the calmer horse? He totally saw through her possessive terminology.
I think you are correct that Lic is short for licenciado. I've heard it in LQNPA and Maria Mercedes and every time it was to someone who was a licenciado. Jarocha? Am I correct?
Lola and Horacio- warning bells went off in my head. I'm nervous about this situation.
"this is a dictatorship"
"she will be right back to slap you silly"
Princess Poop - forever forward as PP.
And I could go on and on.
And yes, we got an overdose of EWWWW moments last night and no Padre Lupe. How is that justified!!
For some reason, gees I don't know why (sarcasm), I just want Hornrimmed gone. Since I never saw the original production, I'm in the dark on his demise, but writers, please make it soon. There is not a moment that he is bearable to watch on screen. At least Fina sort of shines as the Botox queen, he's just, well, digusting.
Boooo--Highlights and the Doc. That poor slob...frying pain to fire. But Paolo, hey if he can yank the chain of that spoiled brat and fool Begonia, he's alright in my book.
But by far, that scene with all four young'uns and the horses..a moment to cherish. Gael was at his most awesomeness and I am loving this character more every day. Damian may be a nice guy, and again destined for the heroine, but no fan here of how he's handled this whole homecoming with Elisa and now Flo.
I could not agree more, Daisynjay! Gael milked his moment of having the best hand in the game table to the last drop, didn't he?
Lola and Horacio- warning bells went off in my head. I'm nervous about this situation.
but on the other hand this will definitely make both Braulio and Tonia uncomfortable and reveal that Braulio still loves Lola... just want Lola to read the small print and make sure she does not get too deep into it before she realizes who is Horacio
Uncle McBratt: He sure is. Kenya may be just at the age of consent, but he's skating on some very thin ice, which is a pretty neat trick in Mexico.
BotoxQueen: The only way to keep the mask on. I'm still wondering how a hairdresser is high society no matter who her parents are.
I have VIP frequent-fly-on-the-wall status with Alfonsina! (don’t know if you should be bragging about that, Gossip queen) Great one! The only people with more FF miles are us!
Finally, how old are our protagonists and how the hell do BotoxQueen and Toad think they still can dictate their friendships and their lives? Elisa would have more freedom in a convent.
... estas de mirame y no me toques!'...
i have to remember that one...
loose translation:
you are on a 'look but don't touch mood!'
of course he referred to Gael walking right by him and Dam and not wanting to join the conversation.
UA - your observations are so fun! Yes how is being a hairdresser high class? And Elisa would have more freedom in a convent.
Daisynjay - ITA about the Toad. He's awful; at least when he's bad with Medusa, they inflict pain on one another. He's just horrible to his daughter. He just needs to find out how wrong he's been with both his wife and daughter before he gets trampled to death (or whatever demise is hopefully planned for him).
Sylvia - I think Medusa keeps bring up Steph to mess with Toad and to demonstrate her wickedness. The lies she has continued to spread about her sister and niece to egg Toady on are reprehensible.
Cap'n- I find Guido attractive in a solid respectable way. Not quite hot. He's the kind of guy I would want a relationship with not a romp.
There I go again with TMI. lol
signing my agreement 1000% on both of these...
UA - your observations are so fun! Yes how is being a hairdresser high class? And Elisa would have more freedom in a convent.
Daisynjay - ITA about the Toad. He's awful; at least when he's bad with Medusa, they inflict pain on one another.
Sara, I hate it when people say "Mi Lic", it sounds so, ugh, licky. I don't think anyone has said it here yet, but I'm just waiting.
OK you brats, there's nuthin' wrong with throwing a bit of silver-maned, trim and athletic respectability into the bad-boy hardbody mix. I don't know if daddy's got a six-pack but he obviously enjoys his work-outs.
You know, I thought the same thing when Fina was bragging to Flo about her pal's kid owning a salon. She forgot to mention Sabrina is a hairdresser with no customers. I loved how Sabrina bragged to Palo, "I'm the owner". Big whoop.
Add me to the Horacio-Lolita-make-me-nervous group. But they sure got Braulio's attention. Chock one up for Team Lolita.
LOL!
I will take a second look at Daddy Guido tonight.
Is it just me or can anyone else see UFCS' Orange Mike in the role of Uncle Pester/brat? I know maybe too old but if you are going to make it an uncle why not make it a pervy uncle?
I was so glad to see Brandon (LldA)/ Horacio and of course Ilitia (also LldA)/ Florenia... one of my all time favorite couples.
Is it asking too much that they both be a bit naughty but not fatally so and end up getting together again?
Even I was a little freaked out by by Carmina's bizarre seducing impersonation... yikes!
Carlos
Carlos, hee, Horacio and Florencia as a couple? Works for me. We know they can turn on the chemistry, that's for sure.
I swear Carmina gets sicker in every episode. How's she going to top last night? Wait. Never mind. Let's not go there.
i agree... and wait until Gabino gets a look at Flo... he will join in on the 'get the girl on the side and get back at Dam' the game for sure... (little does he know he would be doing Dam a favor.. jeje) and the plot thickens...
the list of characters AGAINST Dam and Elisa being together is getting long...
ToadHead
Orangina
BQ
PP
Gabino
Gael
by family assoc Guido and Tio McBratt
Gossip Girl and her kids
by 'job retention' Antonia
the list FOR them together:
Lucio/Blanca
Lolita
Padre Lupe
Braulio?
Mara?
Ramona? (even though she can tell it won't be an easy road for them)
(is that it?)
neutrals:
Dr Inmundo
I, too, loved the mounted vs. unmounted scene. When Gael basically said no, we get the boy-horsey and they get the girl-horsey, I laughed all the way through the avances.
Has Damian even seen his mother since childhood, or did she go with him to the Landuccis for his vacations? Uncle Paolo is certainly going to stir things up. Looking forward to that.
Blue, love your boy-horsey / girl-horsey description. Spot-on!
Will someone please explain to me Augusto's hairstyle/look? I don't get why this doesn't look totally ridiculous to the production crew. Is it supposed to look ridiculous? If so, I don't understand. First of all, it should at least be somewhat gray, and it's not that hard to make a wig/toupee look more realistic than that. It looks hideous. We can't be the only ones who see this.
I get the impression that acting with the actor (sorry, don't know his name) who portrays Padre Lupe must be really fun. He is such a likeable guy and I wouldn't be surprised if he improvises a lot of his joking conversation with the other characters. He seemed that way in CME.
I, too, am worried a bit about Lolita's friendship with Horacio. Hopefully it will be a friendship for good and not bad.
Kenia is about as 17 as balding Luke Perry was a high school student back on Beverly Hills 90210.
It would be so delightful if our gossipy Kimmie Hibler did not get invited to the party.
Obviously we don't wish for a husband to cheat, but I am rooting for the doc to come home with Orangina's tanning lotion having been sweated onto him. Try explaining that.
R la O
Blue, love your boy-horsey / girl-horsey description. Spot-on!
Cathyx, totally agree on Augusto's hair... his skin looked like a mummy last night and his hair was totally wacko dark straight... if this is part of the actor's hair, take him to a hair stylist NOW!!
cathyx, and about..

He is such a likeable guy and I wouldn't be surprised if he improvises a lot of his joking conversation with the other characters. He seemed that way in CME. Totally agree! Rene Casados looks like he is having so much fun, where do I get a job like that??
R la O...
aw the possibilities... laughing at even envisioning...
rooting for the doc to come home with Orangina's tanning lotion .. talk about ... in one word... BUSTED!!!
I wonder if the Lolita/Horacio pairing could be the the bad boy makes good for love story line like we had in LFDD (Marcelo cordoba and Kika Edgar. Can't remember character names darn it. )
However, if we are rating the behavior of Gael vs Damian, they are tied in my mind for equally bad behavior. Damian should have come right out and told Elisa about his novia. But Gael has been a jealous ass to Damian since he got back and has been totally unreasonable in that ergard. I still chuckled at his horse antics though.
Carlos...oh. Love the idea of a Horacio/PP hook up. He may not have the sweetest of Brandon in this one, but we know those two can heat up the screen. After all, the little princess has to wind up with someone at the end of all this. They always do.
I do find it odd that Lola was totally comfortable dealing with Horacio. Don't know you, bit scruffy looking, here's an apple, carry my bags and let's go....Apparently, she finds him endearing or she has a total innocent heart of gold and trusts everyone. just found it a strange scene.
Cathyx--Rene Casados (hope I spelled that right) is the best. He's hysterical here as Padre Lupe, and I have to say that every TN I've seen him in (think it's about five now), even if I didn't love the TN, I just loved him.
i agree that if we are rating the behavior of Gael vs Damian, they are tied in my mind for equally bad behavior.
Damian should have been honest with Elisa about PP... and Gael with his jealous attitude has prevented Dam from approaching him again to tell him the true story (except PP detail) as he did with Elisa... Gael needs to hear that the blockage was in both directions, he probably does not know that yet, but i agree that he has been over the top jealous and an a__ with Dam without having the ocmplete info or letting him explain or even talk to him.
Dam, being the one that came back to town after many years gone should be a big more tolerant about the hostility,though.. esp when he originally misled Elisa about not recognizing her, and then he was not honest/open about PP... so some of the hostility IS justified. But I agree, Gael should allow Dam to approach and explain/have a conversation with him. and Gael should also not be so aggressive about trying to block interaction between Elisa and Dam... if Elisa falls for Dam instead of him, it is not Dam's fault and Dam owes him no explainin' (well, up until they found out about engagement to PP).
although we know more about Horacio than Lolita does, i have to agree on your take on the scene.
Horacio seemed quite sweet with Lolita. We know he's dangerous, but he wasn't giving that vibe with Lolita. It looked like he was genuinely smitten with her.
Emilia, ROFLOL on ...oh, heck, bacon grease!!
daisynjay, no sweat, it doesnt matter really who write the recap. we all enjoy and share comments on it.
and about the 'odd scene' with Lola and Horacio, that is Lola, she is trusting, sort of naive to a point, so Horacio seems to be a needy soul to her rather than a raising red warning flags...
I LOVED Rene Casados in just about ANYTHING (weird character in La Madrastra but still)... in FELS (when i tuned to that one) he was great... loved him in CME...
but i have followed him since Muchacha de Barrio over 30 yrs ago... he is THAT good and THAT versatile... he even hosted 'Picardia Mexicana' with Paty Navidad... he was great there too. He just has a personality/charisma that i have always loved.
'Kenya ' might be 17 y/o, but the actress looks to me like she is 34 y/o.
We get our anti-PSA regarding hiring the elderly. I hope Lucio's luck improves. WalMart no longer hires greeters, so his chances are slim.
WHaaaaaat? Did Florencia's hair turn red overnight? Or am I imagining that?
I noticed Gael said "que hubo?" to Dam & Flo. Must be a holdover from Gael's stint in LHDM. I've never heard that in Mexican telenovelas. My fav-o Spanish teacher was from Colombia and she taught us "que hubo?"
I agree, marta , we all needed a PadLupe fix.
I foresee Sabrina and Uncle Route 66 (Paolo) getting into some trouble in the future.
Good observation, Anon207, about Sabrina's salon.
" aw the possibilities... laughing at even envisioning...
rooting for the doc to come home with Orangina's tanning lotion .. talk about ... in one word... BUSTED!!!"
marta - think about the gossip opportunity for his wife . . . (snerk)
Augusto's hair is bad enough, but the glasses are driving me nuts. He looks like a Bono U2 wannabe. Gah!
Sara, I admit I kind of hope Lolita will redeem that bad boy, too -- but depending on what he's done, he may have to die nobly to prove it. We'll see. In the meantime, he's pretty easy on the eyes. ;}
Thanks for the incredible detail in today's recap. Big WOW, amiga.
A few thoughts:
1. Sabrina is an improbable friend for Florencia. Florencia is well educated, sophisticated and well traveled. She is also about 25 or so. Sabrina is a pueblo-bound hairdresser who looks about 17, as Anon207 said. I am just not seeing why Flo would give her the time of day.
2.Marta I am so with you about missing Father Lupe. I just LOVE the good father and and his 'son' Gael. They are so good together—wonderful chemistry between the actors.
3.Paolo is going to stir things up, isn't he?
4. Daisynjay, I cannot abide the character of Augusto. I have an almost visceral dislike of the bewigged amphibian. Cathyx, his rug is sooo bad, ITA.
EJ
Thank you for correcting me on the assumption that Augusto's hair is a wig. I think Emilia has it right though, get the man some serious hair products, a decent cut and stop dying the hair such a uniform black.
I have a friend from China who says that the cut is very important for her very thick, stick straight hair. She is always talking about her hair being a trial to her when she tries to cut it shorter. If it looks like Augusto's I can see what she means.
EJ
Kenya is a new character for this version. I agree that she looks too old for 17 but I guess they choose to cast an actress that could do bed scenes with Sergio Mayer without it being too icky.
Lic. is how you abbreviate licenciado before a name, eg: Lic. Damián Arango. The use of Lic is an informal way to call a licenciado.
Damián seemed a little presumptuous when he tried to get Florencia on Gael's horse. That was uncomfortable.
Doris: "Que hubo" is used in Mexico too.
Jarocha
Jarocha
so they would also abbreviate Licenciado to 'Lic' when saying it? not just in writing? that is interesting..
i agree, he did not even ask for confirmation/agreement, he was ready to help her climb up on Gael's horse without even asking.
It wasn't Orangina's seduction technique, but Disgusto sitting there with his eyes closed and mouth open that had me grossed out and running from the room! And why does Disgusto wear broken glasses? Is that just a symbol of his intransigence?
Yes, I've heard Qué Hubo in Mex TNs before - most recently often enough in Una Familia, and I barely watch that show.
I'm thinking Horacio is going to keep turning my head even with the slacker hair. That actor is hot!
Loved the horses and the riders LOL!
I continue to be impressed with this production team. In spite of all the big grown-up meanies and bad events of a tough story, this TN is pulled together as if it were an act of love by the director, editors and writers: the tenderness of the scenes with the young people; the intimacy and lighting indoors and outside at night; the gorgeous shots of a lovely traditional puebla and beautiful countryside. And of course they are pulling the best out of the actors. It is just so beautifully done.
Audrey
Jarocha
Canaveral was much 'darker' but it was also the times... audiences were ok with novelas that were like that... but now people look to novelas to be entertaining, not to be even more depressed so if they were going to copy Canaveral the ratings would not be good. I LOVE the cast, script, and overall quality of production so far...
Jarocha
I agree, Jarocha... it also has to do with Gael's problems of self-worth... which is a good part of his harsh mood since Dam showed up in town... in Gael's mind he has no chance with Elisa if Dam is around.. EXCEPT of the little detail of Damian being engaged.
the whole 'lic' issue reminds me of LHDM where 'Francisco' would use the funny/ironic tone saying 'Doc-TORR' when talking to Macias... (esp with the real Emiliano actually having higher education and wealth than Macias...)
Thanks EJ. Our Baylor ladies were awesome all season and especially during the tournament... annnddd... all 5 starters are planning to return next year. The Baylor men's team didn't have too a bad season either.
So far Horacio seems to be very rough around the edges and of course is dodging the law, but I get the feeling that he's not such a bad guy as some fear... maybe I'm just longing for a reprise of Brandon (LldA).
I loved her in Gancho and I think that Lolita is one of the most beautiful women in TNs. I wonder what she would be like as one of the bad girls?
I feel bad for Dr. Tovar. His characters always seem to be morally challenged and I'm afraid that he is no match for Carmina... heck, I'm not so sure that I could resist her... that is of course unless she started channeling Estefy.
Carlos
Thanks for the recap! Actually saw this episode already but I still felt kind of behind.
So was Damian marrying Florencia because he really thought he was in love with her, or because she was convenient and lured him into it? He seems to merely tolerate her. I wonder if he was always lukewarm about it or if he was totally gung-ho until he was around Elisa again.
Yes, Lolita was a baddie in Teresa-- a shock after her turn as the wonderful Gabi in Gancho.
I don't know if Cañaveral was darker in the writing, since this novela is using all the same events from Cañaveral while at the same time adding some more and making their characters more extreme (Carmina, Blanca, Augusto) and the love story scenes more angsty (with Elisa so far crying more than Julia at this point and Damián more "damaged" than cutie Pablo).
But I agree that the tone was darker, the stylistic choices made the places look more grimm, the music was all instrumental and especially designed to amplify what was going on on screen. Even the opening sequence gave a sense that we were in for some heightened drama (the end credits music changed depending on the last scene of the episode, the one in the link is for a strong shocking event).
Jarocha
I noticed in the credits that this is produced by Angelli Nesma Medina who also produced Llena de Amor, one of my favorites, and Un Gancho al Corazón which I thought was a masterpiece.
Carlos
Carlos, I picked up Teresa about a third of the way through. I thought it was very well done for the most part.
Jarocha
Jarocha
In Cañaveral the characters were second cousins and Damián/Pablo was raised by Florencia/Gina's parents. That added a bigger commitment to their relationship from his side but he did know her well.
Jarocha
Thanks for that link Jarocha. It got me digging around at other clips of the early episodes. They really seem to be sticking to the old version. Not a bad thing since it seems to be so high quality.
Carlos, you may enjoy this clip. It has Azela (the Carmina role) and Bernardo from Llena playing the Gabino role. Am I right in guessing that the bandana our Gabino wears randomly is an homage to the original who wore one around his neck? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kuGHDVa5I0&feature=relmfu
I hadn't considered the idea of the bandana being a hommage but it makes sense.
Since we are bringing up old clips. I really wish this novela would have used this scene to illustrate why Augusto chose to stay with Carmina all those years. It wasn't just masochism and obstinence, there was a genuine intention to make it work that simply couldn't be realized.
Carlos
