Abismo de pasión #18 4/4/12: Poor Damian, everyone treats him as hostile witness; a match made in heaven? ... NOT! he loves EL CAMPO life... Princess poop... not so much.

 Recap by Marta Ivett

Repeats:
Lucio tell Blanca he will protect Damian if he stays, just like he has protected Elisa…
Damian and Cinderella stroll..
Dam:… look at me, who would have said I would end up falling for a girl friend I have known since we were kids… well, we are here already… lets go in, my mom owes you an appology… (she is reluctant/afraid to go in but he convinces her to go in, they hold hands…)
Surprise Surprise!!
Flo: Hello my love!

New:
(Elisa might as well have fallen through a hole right into a hot furnace… somehow she keeps herself together enough to manage a quiet exit behind Dam…  he is totally taken aback and totally uncomfortable, even gets teary eyed… (wait, wasn’t this the guy who just brought her right into the lioness cage? Why is he surprised things did not go so smooth?)
Flo: oh I think your friend … left… (Naah! She just went to use the potty… she will be right back to slap you silly… Elisa style)
Dam is totally unsettled… lying through his nostrils about being so happy to see Flo here.

Out on the streets of La Ermita, Paolo and Elisa literally bump into each other, Elisa is still upset/unsettled about Flo, while Paolo is instantly smitten by Elisa’s looks… but she does not give him time to even blink… she is gone and someone could blow on him and he would fall down…

Back inside Hacienda haranguo
BotoxQueen: How did you like the surprise, my son? (come on Dam, be honest! Stte of: well, mom, let me count the ways in which you continue to make my life a living hell)

Dam finds out Paolo came along with Flo… yup, Dam, Uncle McBratt is here too.

Back at Castanon manor, Lolita ( I want that blouse! It is so cute! With flower and butterflies detail and the scoop edge trim..)  finds a very upset Elisa… Elisa just found out Dam has a girlfriend and she arrived from MexCity today…  its as if Damian did not want to tell he had a girlfriend, as if he wanted to hide that little detail (Give the girl a golden star!!)  Lolita gives Dam the benefit of the doubt (no way he could tell you all about his life in two short meetings…  or maybe his girlfriend is not so important… Elisa says it is if they are about to marry… and the way they kissed…Elisa remembers his line ‘fell for a girl I know since we were kids’ and thinks he referred to Flo, not to her.  Elisa calls herself dumb for having accepted going to Fina’s hacienda (well, there you are right, sherlock!) (Lolita certainly knows her niña, she can read her like a book)… Elisa wants to go to bed… Lolita keeps encouraging her…
Once Lolita leaves Elisa rips her necklace off… then looks at it and cries…

Back to Hacienda Huarango… BotoxQueen and Princess Poop talk very leisurely while Dam, sitting behind Princess, is totally lost in his own thoughts (of Cinderella? of how he misses the smell of horse poop?)… The women talk about Guido being a workaholic… Princess holds Dam’s hands, like claiming territory.

Tio Paolo comes in and sits right beside BotoxQueen, seems he is not wasting time to begin his courting plan… but then mentions ‘this girl’ he ran into… (oopsie, don’t go there McBratt, that is taboo at BQ’s house) BotoxQueen says there are no girls in this town that are anywhere as pretty and worthy as the girls in Italy…

Back to Castanon manor… Orangina is in purple nightie ready to give ToadHead a night to remember… she begins to slurp him all over… he is not in the mood…  know I am a woman? Still young and still needing a man… do you need a woman every now and then? … No, I don’t need anything… with Estefania you would not be in this mood… well, too bad she is not here to find out…   Medusa is all over the poor imbecile… he looks like a Mummy… Medusa changes strategy, proposes he closes his eyes and imagine he is with Este… ALMOST… but no cigar, Medusa… he started to respond but you went too fast and he woke up from the nightmare… ‘I can’t imagine you being Estefania… if I did, I would probably kill you’. Toadhead leaves Medusa hot and messy screaming she will never forgive him..

BotoxQueen keeps giving Princess Flo the red carpet treatment… she is happy Flo came to town so the whole town sees that my son is engaged to you…  Princess Flo tells BQ that when Dam arrived from the street he came with a girl. After Flo describes the girl to BQ, she says surely it was a girl friend from his childhood years… you have nothing to worry about… (wanna bet??)

Paolo arrives at the stables in his latest toy, a motor bike, and Dam is not in the mood… Paolo says there are no horses, what is the problem with this ‘beauty’ to spend the night in the stables? … McBratt brags about the ‘chulada’ expensive bike, but that is what money is for, to fulfill your wishes. Dam would prefer to ride on a horse than on ‘this’.  Dam drops the bomb on McBratt, he and Flo are not planning to live here…  McBratt tells Dam Flo has never liked the idea of living in the fields… McBratt then changes the subject to ask Dam about the ‘mujeron/chulada’ he ran into today… and with each word he describes Elisa with, Dam turns a notch redder and madder… and the punch line… ‘if I am going to be in this town, at least I need someone to entertain myself with’… (and Dam has heard enough) Dam warns McBratt that women here are much more conservative than the women he is used to dealing with in Europe. You could tell these two have no love lost for each other… ‘ay, nephew, it shows that you do not care at all about the idea that I came along with my niece’

At Castanon manor, Elisa is trying to sleep, then gets up and puts the necklace back on after kissing it, back to bed to dream of the owner of the other one…

Back at Mex City Kenya is looking for Paolo and runs into a jogging Guido… Guido tells her Paolo left on a trip… Kenya is upset… she is only 17.. she is in a serious problem and only Paolo can help her… Guido can guess where this is going.. and so can we.

At Hac. Haranguo… again red carpet treatment for future daughter in law…  BQ wants to make a huge party to celebrate their engagement, all the ‘important folks’ in this town should attend… She will convince Guido to come for the event.  Workaholic…

At Castanon Manor, Elisa tries again to get ToadHead to share his feelings and his problems with her… this time the problems are financial…  about to deliver the last crop for Santa Maria folks… Elisa tries to bring back the subject of restarting the green house fields…ToadHead guesses right it was Gael who insists…  you don’t want to do it because they are in my mother’s name, and you have tried to destroy anything that has to do with her all these years!!... then I will give the lands to you so you can put them in your name!... ToadHead says you and your mother are the same… noone has to give me anything!!  (this MEMORABLE father/daughter chat is interrupted by door bell.. it is Damian…).

So we get a highschooler boy girl argument… he realizes she is upset and jealous of Flo … she is mad, does not admit to anything, no reason to be mad… (yeah right!)
They pull out the claims on not being fully open with each other about  ‘your novia’/ ‘your relationship with Gael’ ‘I have heard it around town’ ‘what else have you heard about me?’  (this new ENJOYABLE conversation is interrupted by ToadHead who, after learning who is talking to his daughter, joins the long list of hostile welcomers that Damian has had to face since arriving in town… ‘what are you doing in my house? What the heck do you want with Elisa? I don’t want you to ever look for her. I want you to leave my house for good! If your mother does not want anything to do with my family, I feel the same way!’ then ToadHead turns to Elisa and turns up the hostility, go to your room! You have forbidden any type of relationship with this man! .. GO!!
Dam: You don’t have to yell at her!
TH: I can treat my daughter as I please!
Dam: It was I who came looking for her. And nothing you or my mother can say or do to prevent your daughter and I from continuing our friendship.
TH:  Elisa does not need your friendship. And I don’t want you to look for her again. IF you do, I assure you you will regret it.
(Dam leaves quietly but giving killer looks at TH)

Lolita is at the fresh produce market buying some stuff and Horacio approaches her, tells Lolita he is looking for a job… She gives him an apple after he says has no money and he happily carries her purchases…

Guido calls Paolo to berate him about Kenya… Since Paolo is with Flo and BQ, he fakes it… BQ gets on the call and tells Guido about the party she is planning to announce the engagement. Guido will come… BQ: Do you have an issue with your brother, Paolo? (nooooo! Everything is honky dory!)

Elisa and ToadHead argue about his attitude toward Dam… did not have to be aggressive… Now it seems I should have rolled the red carpet for him!... you who have always criticized Alfo Haranguo, you are acting just like her!!... I will just tell you that If you keep seeing that boy I will have to take stronger measures you won’t like!...

In town, Lolita keeps building friendship with Horacio… Braulio and Tonia run into them and Braulio is curious beyond reasonable about Horacio… Tonia is upset that Braulio cares so much.. about time la Lola found a boyfriend, don’t you think?

ToadHead appologizes to Medusa about last night… understand there are times you can’t force it (well, it doesn’t matter if you use force or not, it is hopeless, I think. Even his face is paralized)..  Medusa insinuates that it is sad that there are others who do value and love her … this gets ToadHead’s attention… noone in particular, but there are many men who would want her as a woman… I don’t doubt it… (and you could care less, right?)

BQ continues talking to Princess Flo about the guests to the party… what about the infancy friends of Dam? (… BQ changes the subject instantly…) .. you will get along well with Sabrina, my friend Begona’s daughter… whom you can spend time with when Damian is not here… no, BQ, forgive me, but if we are getting married, Dam will have to get used to be with me.. not the other way around (wanna bet, porcelain princess?)
Dam arrives… they tell him about the engagement party… BQ will take care of it all… don’t say anything.. (this is a dictatorship, don’t you remember, Damian?  … man, Damian’s facial expression is priceless!!)  .. you have to take Flo around town, you have been neglecting her… sure…
Elisa comes to Blanca’s shop, Blanca is worried, Lucio went to turn in the recommendation letter… and she is worried about what he will hear…
Gael catches Elisa at Blanca’s shop and Elisa tells him that she found out the lands are still in her name. But forget it. I tried again with my dad and there is no way to convince him.  Gael insists… comes up with an idea… come with me, I will show you.

Just as we were afraid of, at Santa Maria Processadora, Lucio gets the turn down and gets angry. He does not like being tricked and given the run arounds… Should not have made me waste my time!.

At Procesadora, BQ arrives and Gabino tries to give her his side of the incident with Damian and Lucio… BQ is glad that Damian was so authoritative.. but you can rest easy, my son has other plans, not to stay at the head of the procesadora… for now!...

Gael is showing Elisa the remains of the greenhouse.. All the lands around are being farmed, put to good use.. except these… Elisa says its no use with her dad. Gael says we have to find the way… She closes her eyes and remembers her mother saying she would love to see the habaneros shipped around the world… Elisa tells Gael she will make it work!... Now Gael is the pessimist.. need money and you need to know about growing habaneros! Elisa tells Gael he can teach her.. he is positively amused at her excitement with the project but brings her feet down to earth… Elisa says they can ask for a loan, have to try at least.. my mom had many dreams about these lands, and I want to make them a reality.

Elsewhere in fields another optimist soul, Dam, is showing Flo the crops and telling Flo about the fields, about their procesadora shipping the habaneros around the world. She does not get why so much emotion in his words (why he is so excited about the subject) HE says he always loved to see the lands farmed…
Dam: know what? When we were kids my friends and I used to play and run around these fields.
She is totally unamused and is feeling hot, so she wants to go now…
Too bad, Princess poop, the truck won’t start… they will have to wait or walk to the road to get a ride…

In town, in front of her business ‘un toque de amor’… Sabrina is talking to another girl, Paolo arrives in his motorbike and the girls drool about him… he introduces himself to both girls… just arrived… my niece is Damian’s fiancee… he is finding a place to eat… Sabrina gets on the back of his bike…  they leave the other girl behind alone… DUH!

At Dr Inmundo’s office… Medusa arrives… Paloma asks what is wrong, she has been sick a bit often lately… Bright white teeth face Dr Inmundo as he walks out a patient… and Medusa goes in his office… Paloma bites her teeth…

Princess Poop and Dam are walking down the dirt road.. Gael and Elisa come riding horses…
Dam asks Gael if he and Elisa can give them a ride to town.. Both Elisa and especially Gael seem miffed about the idea… Princess Poop walks forward and introduces herself as Damian’s girlfriend.. no, fiancee… Gael is instantly amused. Elisa rolls her eyes looking away. Princess Poop claims territory by grabbing Damian’s hand…
Damian introduces Gael and Elisa as his childhood friends ‘even if they don’t consider me as such’… Princess recalls the name Elisa as the girl who was with Dam when he arrived home last night.
Dam asks Elisa if he can ride along on her horse. Flo can go with Gael..
El: The horse is not mine. Why don’t you ask Gael? (Gael nods in approval)
Dam: Since I arrived in town, I have been dying to ride a horse… you don’t mind, right Gael?
Ga: As a matter of fact, I do… see, Conejo gets uneasy with strangers but he knows Elisa well. (Dam’s face is priceless!!)
Prin: Is he wild/dangerous? will he throw me?
Dam tries to help Flo get on Gael’s horse.. Gael won’t let it happen.
Dam suggests he will ride with Elisa and Flo with Gael… Gael has other ideas… Flo his fiancee will ride with Elisa, and Dam will get on Gael’s horse.. (Lic’   … is that short for Licenciado? Or is there another meaning for ‘lic’? I remember Gael calling Dam ‘mi lic’ at their first meeting as adults)
(the whole facial expressions and body language between Gael(dealer/daring), Damian(not amused in the least) and Elisa(not a happy camper, shooting daggers from her eyes toward Princess Poop) is priceless in this scene. It was funny how Gael, being the owner of the horses, knew he had control of the stare/dare game and acted on it.)

Sabrina arrives home to tell Gossip girl all about her meeting with the most gorgeous guy Paolo.  And tells her about the party BQ is planning… But of course we will be invited! I have VIP frequent-fly-on-the-wall status with Alfonsina! (don’t know if you should be bragging about that, Gossip queen)

At Dr Inmundo’s office Medusa is putting up a whole shakespeare tragedy act about being so unhappy, her marriage is falling apart… lies saying last night when ToadHead learned she talked to the doc, he got mad and violent with her…  Dr Inmundo tries to calm her down… she turns to step 2 of her plan… they end up smooching… even if he resisted at first.

Previews:
Dam: Too bad things are not as they used to be.
Sabrina to PP: Elisa was Damian’s girlfriend when they were kids. They even ran away together one day, that is why his mother took him away to Italy.
PP to Dam: How come you did not tell me Elisa and you were an item? (really, PP?  they were just KIDS!) how could you introduce us as if nothing had ever happened between you 2? (he stares at her as in disbelief she is asking that… and I would be in disbelief too!)

Alright! I have a complaint to make!! I WANT MY PADRE LUPE FIX!!! he did not show up in the entire episode!!

Labels:

Comments:
wow that was quick, Sylvia! thanks!

sorry but Alf makes me Barf ...
Princess Poop i want to boot...

I WANT MY PADRE LUPE!!!

Stuff learned in this episode:

Paolo likes 'em young. Kenya is 17 and Sabrina doesn't look much older than that. Also Kenya sounds like she's embarazada to be tracking down Paolo like that.

Paolo & Damian do not like each other.

Florencia's mother is dead and Guido buries himself in work to cope.

Observations & Questions:

Sabrina's salon must not be booming with business if she has time to stand around gossiping and then hopping on some random dude's bike.

Paolo's pursuit of Elisa is going to bring out the green-eyed beast in Damian full force. Flo & Fina will not be pleased.

Tonia is extremely insecure re: Lolita, who was minding her business with Horacio when she & Braulio walked up. Newsflash lady: it is not Lolita's fault you are passing off Gabino's kid at Braulio's to trap him and it's not Lolita's fault Braulio keeps asking Lucio about Lolita.

I wonder if the broke down La Anita truck is one of Gabino's "Buy 'em used & broke down but paint them to look like new" specials?

I still want to know if Papa Bouvier gave 100% of the land to Estefania (who then is giving Elisa 100% of the land) or did he give Estefania 50% and Carmina 50%?

Marta, you were on a roll tonight. I was laughing my a$$ off all the way through. Too bad you got skunked with no Padre Lupe scenes. You were cheated!

My favorite line: "Toadhead leaves Medusa hot and messy screaming she will never forgive him", what a perfect description. Didn't you just know she was gonna get some one way or another?

Speaking of which, Dr. Inmundo, LOL!!! And Shakespeare tragedy is right. Carmeany is one helluva lying drama queen.

I have a question, if Medusa is so sick of hearing about Stef why does she keep bringing her up? And in the bedroom. Ack!

My goodness but that Kenya is a very mature-looking 17.

Elisa and Gael were so cute when they were in the habanero fields. I loved Elisa's hat.

Clearly Damian was also very moved by his visit to the fields. Good! Princess Poop (Hee!! Love it!) thinks she's so in control. Just wait until her little world starts spiraling out of control. By the way, I think her dad Guido is kind of hot.

Thanks Marta! I'm not kidding, this was one of your best recaps ever, and that's saying a lot since they yours are always the best.

Anon,
Paolo's pursuit of Elisa is going to bring out the green-eyed beast in Damian full force. Flo & Fina will not be pleased.
well, the green virus will go around all of La Ermita...
Dam will feel hulky about Paolo approaching Elisa...
Gael will feel hulky seeing Dam with Elisa,
Elisa will feel hulky when she sees Flo and Dam...
Paloma will feel hulky seeing Gael showing face for Elisa ...
Flo will get green or maybe tomato red at seeing Dam and Elisa together...
and so on...

Anon207, great observations and questions.

"I wonder if the broke down La Anita truck is one of Gabino's "Buy 'em used & broke down but paint them to look like new" specials?" - I wondered the exact same thing. I'm thinking...YES.

"I still want to know if Papa Bouvier gave 100% of the land to Estefania (who then is giving Elisa 100% of the land) or did he give Estefania 50% and Carmina 50%?" - I am still wondering that too. If Stef was the oldest he might have given it to her 100%. Let's hope so.

if the Medusa / Dr Inmundo stuff goes on longer, Paloma will definitely not be bored at that job, will she?

One more thing. I realized that this whole meeting in the field scene is very much like what Jarocha described about the original.

Marta, nope, I don't think Paloma is going to be bored in her job.

Hulky...I like it! Don't be surprised if you see that pop up in future recaps.

Clearly Damian was also very moved by his visit to the fields. Good!
yeah! good observation Sylvia!! and by contrast Princess Poop was soooo out of her comfort zone...

PP was pretty much bored silly by the fields and just humoring Damian.

Wasn't it cool how Gael suggested that Damian's, ahem, Pro-Me-Tida should ride with Elisa on the calmer horse? He totally saw through her possessive terminology.

Great work! Princess Poop is perfect! What Dam see in her? I missed Padre, too.

I think you are correct that Lic is short for licenciado. I've heard it in LQNPA and Maria Mercedes and every time it was to someone who was a licenciado. Jarocha? Am I correct?

Lola and Horacio- warning bells went off in my head. I'm nervous about this situation.

You guys rock! I can't wait for these recaps each day, and Sylvia you just made my day again. This was park-the-coffee hysterical.

"this is a dictatorship"
"she will be right back to slap you silly"
Princess Poop - forever forward as PP.
And I could go on and on.

And yes, we got an overdose of EWWWW moments last night and no Padre Lupe. How is that justified!!

For some reason, gees I don't know why (sarcasm), I just want Hornrimmed gone. Since I never saw the original production, I'm in the dark on his demise, but writers, please make it soon. There is not a moment that he is bearable to watch on screen. At least Fina sort of shines as the Botox queen, he's just, well, digusting.

Boooo--Highlights and the Doc. That poor slob...frying pain to fire. But Paolo, hey if he can yank the chain of that spoiled brat and fool Begonia, he's alright in my book.
But by far, that scene with all four young'uns and the horses..a moment to cherish. Gael was at his most awesomeness and I am loving this character more every day. Damian may be a nice guy, and again destined for the heroine, but no fan here of how he's handled this whole homecoming with Elisa and now Flo.

But by far, that scene with all four young'uns and the horses..a moment to cherish. Gael was at his most awesomeness and I am loving this character more every day.

I could not agree more, Daisynjay! Gael milked his moment of having the best hand in the game table to the last drop, didn't he?

Sara, I too felt it as you...
Lola and Horacio- warning bells went off in my head. I'm nervous about this situation.
but on the other hand this will definitely make both Braulio and Tonia uncomfortable and reveal that Braulio still loves Lola... just want Lola to read the small print and make sure she does not get too deep into it before she realizes who is Horacio

Great work, Marta. My favorite things so far:

Uncle McBratt: He sure is. Kenya may be just at the age of consent, but he's skating on some very thin ice, which is a pretty neat trick in Mexico.

BotoxQueen: The only way to keep the mask on. I'm still wondering how a hairdresser is high society no matter who her parents are.

I have VIP frequent-fly-on-the-wall status with Alfonsina! (don’t know if you should be bragging about that, Gossip queen) Great one! The only people with more FF miles are us!

Finally, how old are our protagonists and how the hell do BotoxQueen and Toad think they still can dictate their friendships and their lives? Elisa would have more freedom in a convent.

i was rewatching the shirtless Gael scene with the Padre and laughed hysterically at it again, and caught a cute line by Padre...
... estas de mirame y no me toques!'...
i have to remember that one...
loose translation:
you are on a 'look but don't touch mood!'
of course he referred to Gael walking right by him and Dam and not wanting to join the conversation.

Thanks for the recap Marta. And yes hulk behavior will be very prevalent very soon. And I too miss our Padre.

UA - your observations are so fun! Yes how is being a hairdresser high class? And Elisa would have more freedom in a convent.

Daisynjay - ITA about the Toad. He's awful; at least when he's bad with Medusa, they inflict pain on one another. He's just horrible to his daughter. He just needs to find out how wrong he's been with both his wife and daughter before he gets trampled to death (or whatever demise is hopefully planned for him).

Sylvia - I think Medusa keeps bring up Steph to mess with Toad and to demonstrate her wickedness. The lies she has continued to spread about her sister and niece to egg Toady on are reprehensible.

Uyyyyyy...Silvia & Guido, sittin' in a arbol, B-E-S-A-N-D-O...

Oh and I can't remember who said what but I agree that Kenya looked well past 17 to me too.

Cap'n- I find Guido attractive in a solid respectable way. Not quite hot. He's the kind of guy I would want a relationship with not a romp.

There I go again with TMI. lol

Karen,
signing my agreement 1000% on both of these...
UA - your observations are so fun! Yes how is being a hairdresser high class? And Elisa would have more freedom in a convent.

Daisynjay - ITA about the Toad. He's awful; at least when he's bad with Medusa, they inflict pain on one another.

daisynjay, this is Marta's recap, I just posted it for her. Just to clarify.

Sara, I hate it when people say "Mi Lic", it sounds so, ugh, licky. I don't think anyone has said it here yet, but I'm just waiting.

OK you brats, there's nuthin' wrong with throwing a bit of silver-maned, trim and athletic respectability into the bad-boy hardbody mix. I don't know if daddy's got a six-pack but he obviously enjoys his work-outs.

You know, I thought the same thing when Fina was bragging to Flo about her pal's kid owning a salon. She forgot to mention Sabrina is a hairdresser with no customers. I loved how Sabrina bragged to Palo, "I'm the owner". Big whoop.

Add me to the Horacio-Lolita-make-me-nervous group. But they sure got Braulio's attention. Chock one up for Team Lolita.

"licky"
LOL!

I will take a second look at Daddy Guido tonight.

Is it just me or can anyone else see UFCS' Orange Mike in the role of Uncle Pester/brat? I know maybe too old but if you are going to make it an uncle why not make it a pervy uncle?

Thanks Marta, I agree with the others... this is outstanding. I've been behind for about a week now although I've managed to keep up with the wonderful recaps and comments. I've still yet to watch the last 15 min. of this episode.

I was so glad to see Brandon (LldA)/ Horacio and of course Ilitia (also LldA)/ Florenia... one of my all time favorite couples.

Is it asking too much that they both be a bit naughty but not fatally so and end up getting together again?

Even I was a little freaked out by by Carmina's bizarre seducing impersonation... yikes!

Carlos

I agree Carlos. Carmina's "seduction" made gag. Truly truly sick.

Sylvia, Gael has called Damian 'Mi Lic' at their first meeting and at the four folks and two horses scene called him 'lic'... that is why i raised the question.

EWWWWWW! The Cheat-Oh as Uncle Pester? Nooooooo! Orange Mike is too one-dimensional (I think). I like Sergio Meyer in the role. Plus OM gives me the creepies. Also, I'm not sure I could bear both the Cheat-Oh and Orangina together in a scene. I would go blind or poke my own eyes out. I'm getting the feeling our current tio going to be plenty pervy. Just wait until Big Brother shows up in La Ermita. OMG, do you think he might bring Kenya with him? That would be too delicious. Fingers crossed and toes crossed too.

Carlos, hee, Horacio and Florencia as a couple? Works for me. We know they can turn on the chemistry, that's for sure.

Carlos, the last 15 min with the four people two horses scene was the highlight of the ep... just watch the facial expressions all around... priceless!

Marta, they already did the "Mi Lic" thing? I missed it, just heard the "Lic", thanks for pointing it out. Now I don't have to be on edge waiting for it, LOL.

I swear Carmina gets sicker in every episode. How's she going to top last night? Wait. Never mind. Let's not go there.

Carlos, hee, Horacio and Florencia as a couple? Works for me. We know they can turn on the chemistry, that's for sure.
i agree... and wait until Gabino gets a look at Flo... he will join in on the 'get the girl on the side and get back at Dam' the game for sure... (little does he know he would be doing Dam a favor.. jeje) and the plot thickens...

dang!
the list of characters AGAINST Dam and Elisa being together is getting long...
ToadHead
Orangina
BQ
PP
Gabino
Gael
by family assoc Guido and Tio McBratt
Gossip Girl and her kids
by 'job retention' Antonia

the list FOR them together:
Lucio/Blanca
Lolita
Padre Lupe
Braulio?
Mara?
Ramona? (even though she can tell it won't be an easy road for them)
(is that it?)

neutrals:
Dr Inmundo

sorry forgot Paloma on the For list since that would free up Gael for her.

I can't see Flo going anywhere near Gabino unless she gave him a good washing first.

I, too, loved the mounted vs. unmounted scene. When Gael basically said no, we get the boy-horsey and they get the girl-horsey, I laughed all the way through the avances.

Thanks, Marta. Excellent as always. Now that I more or less know what is going on, this show is really getting interesting.
Has Damian even seen his mother since childhood, or did she go with him to the Landuccis for his vacations? Uncle Paolo is certainly going to stir things up. Looking forward to that.
Blue, love your boy-horsey / girl-horsey description. Spot-on!

Great recap Marta. Very humorous, I love that.

Will someone please explain to me Augusto's hairstyle/look? I don't get why this doesn't look totally ridiculous to the production crew. Is it supposed to look ridiculous? If so, I don't understand. First of all, it should at least be somewhat gray, and it's not that hard to make a wig/toupee look more realistic than that. It looks hideous. We can't be the only ones who see this.

I get the impression that acting with the actor (sorry, don't know his name) who portrays Padre Lupe must be really fun. He is such a likeable guy and I wouldn't be surprised if he improvises a lot of his joking conversation with the other characters. He seemed that way in CME.

I, too, am worried a bit about Lolita's friendship with Horacio. Hopefully it will be a friendship for good and not bad.

Thanks Marta! I appreciate the details.

Kenia is about as 17 as balding Luke Perry was a high school student back on Beverly Hills 90210.

It would be so delightful if our gossipy Kimmie Hibler did not get invited to the party.

Obviously we don't wish for a husband to cheat, but I am rooting for the doc to come home with Orangina's tanning lotion having been sweated onto him. Try explaining that.

R la O

Emilia... totally agree on...
Blue, love your boy-horsey / girl-horsey description. Spot-on!

Cathyx, totally agree on Augusto's hair... his skin looked like a mummy last night and his hair was totally wacko dark straight... if this is part of the actor's hair, take him to a hair stylist NOW!!

cathyx, and about..

Rene Casados looks like he is having so much fun, where do I get a job like that??

aw the possibilities... laughing at even envisioning...
rooting for the doc to come home with Orangina's tanning lotion .. talk about ... in one word... BUSTED!!!

R la O love the idea of self tanner on doc's collar.

I wonder if the Lolita/Horacio pairing could be the the bad boy makes good for love story line like we had in LFDD (Marcelo cordoba and Kika Edgar. Can't remember character names darn it. )

Wonderful recap Marta. I also got quite a kick out of that last scene with the horses.

However, if we are rating the behavior of Gael vs Damian, they are tied in my mind for equally bad behavior. Damian should have come right out and told Elisa about his novia. But Gael has been a jealous ass to Damian since he got back and has been totally unreasonable in that ergard. I still chuckled at his horse antics though.

Oh, and that's the Agusto actor's real hair. I saw him in PVAA. He has a shorter hair cut in that, but it's the same color and is very thick. That's why it stands up so much when he takes off a hat or Orangina insists on running her paws through it.

Horacio seemed quite sweet with Lolita. We know he's dangerous, but he wasn't giving that vibe with Lolita. It looked like he was genuinely smitten with her.

All these greasy haired guys in tns, you'd think Augusto could borrow somebody's 40 weight, or Brylcreme, or, heck, bacon grease!!

Sorry, Marta!!! should have stated by utmost admiration in tour direction for today's recap.

Carlos...oh. Love the idea of a Horacio/PP hook up. He may not have the sweetest of Brandon in this one, but we know those two can heat up the screen. After all, the little princess has to wind up with someone at the end of all this. They always do.

I do find it odd that Lola was totally comfortable dealing with Horacio. Don't know you, bit scruffy looking, here's an apple, carry my bags and let's go....Apparently, she finds him endearing or she has a total innocent heart of gold and trusts everyone. just found it a strange scene.

Cathyx--Rene Casados (hope I spelled that right) is the best. He's hysterical here as Padre Lupe, and I have to say that every TN I've seen him in (think it's about five now), even if I didn't love the TN, I just loved him.

Vivi.
i agree that if we are rating the behavior of Gael vs Damian, they are tied in my mind for equally bad behavior.
Damian should have been honest with Elisa about PP... and Gael with his jealous attitude has prevented Dam from approaching him again to tell him the true story (except PP detail) as he did with Elisa... Gael needs to hear that the blockage was in both directions, he probably does not know that yet, but i agree that he has been over the top jealous and an a__ with Dam without having the ocmplete info or letting him explain or even talk to him.

Dam, being the one that came back to town after many years gone should be a big more tolerant about the hostility,though.. esp when he originally misled Elisa about not recognizing her, and then he was not honest/open about PP... so some of the hostility IS justified. But I agree, Gael should allow Dam to approach and explain/have a conversation with him. and Gael should also not be so aggressive about trying to block interaction between Elisa and Dam... if Elisa falls for Dam instead of him, it is not Dam's fault and Dam owes him no explainin' (well, up until they found out about engagement to PP).

Vivi,
although we know more about Horacio than Lolita does, i have to agree on your take on the scene.
Horacio seemed quite sweet with Lolita. We know he's dangerous, but he wasn't giving that vibe with Lolita. It looked like he was genuinely smitten with her.

Emilia, ROFLOL on ...oh, heck, bacon grease!!

daisynjay, no sweat, it doesnt matter really who write the recap. we all enjoy and share comments on it.
and about the 'odd scene' with Lola and Horacio, that is Lola, she is trusting, sort of naive to a point, so Horacio seems to be a needy soul to her rather than a raising red warning flags...

I LOVED Rene Casados in just about ANYTHING (weird character in La Madrastra but still)... in FELS (when i tuned to that one) he was great... loved him in CME...
but i have followed him since Muchacha de Barrio over 30 yrs ago... he is THAT good and THAT versatile... he even hosted 'Picardia Mexicana' with Paty Navidad... he was great there too. He just has a personality/charisma that i have always loved.

Marta - Thank you for the recap! Another recap that is more entertaining than the episode itself.

'Kenya ' might be 17 y/o, but the actress looks to me like she is 34 y/o.

We get our anti-PSA regarding hiring the elderly. I hope Lucio's luck improves. WalMart no longer hires greeters, so his chances are slim.

WHaaaaaat? Did Florencia's hair turn red overnight? Or am I imagining that?

I noticed Gael said "que hubo?" to Dam & Flo. Must be a holdover from Gael's stint in LHDM. I've never heard that in Mexican telenovelas. My fav-o Spanish teacher was from Colombia and she taught us "que hubo?"

I agree, marta , we all needed a PadLupe fix.

I foresee Sabrina and Uncle Route 66 (Paolo) getting into some trouble in the future.

Good observation, Anon207, about Sabrina's salon.

" aw the possibilities... laughing at even envisioning...
rooting for the doc to come home with Orangina's tanning lotion .. talk about ... in one word... BUSTED!!!"

marta - think about the gossip opportunity for his wife . . . (snerk)

Augusto's hair is bad enough, but the glasses are driving me nuts. He looks like a Bono U2 wannabe. Gah!

THIS!

Cathyx, at the end of CME someone posted an outtakes reel that included René Casados dancing around a hospital room all by himself in a pinstriped suit -- he really did look like he was having the time of his life. It was very charming. (He's a good dancer, too.)

Sara, I admit I kind of hope Lolita will redeem that bad boy, too -- but depending on what he's done, he may have to die nobly to prove it. We'll see. In the meantime, he's pretty easy on the eyes. ;}

Marta:
Thanks for the incredible detail in today's recap. Big WOW, amiga.

A few thoughts:

1. Sabrina is an improbable friend for Florencia. Florencia is well educated, sophisticated and well traveled. She is also about 25 or so. Sabrina is a pueblo-bound hairdresser who looks about 17, as Anon207 said. I am just not seeing why Flo would give her the time of day.

2.Marta I am so with you about missing Father Lupe. I just LOVE the good father and and his 'son' Gael. They are so good together—wonderful chemistry between the actors.

3.Paolo is going to stir things up, isn't he?

4. Daisynjay, I cannot abide the character of Augusto. I have an almost visceral dislike of the bewigged amphibian. Cathyx, his rug is sooo bad, ITA.

EJ

Carlos:

OT
My congrats to you and the Baylor Women. You must be so proud.

Abrazos,

EJ

Vivi:

Thank you for correcting me on the assumption that Augusto's hair is a wig. I think Emilia has it right though, get the man some serious hair products, a decent cut and stop dying the hair such a uniform black.

I have a friend from China who says that the cut is very important for her very thick, stick straight hair. She is always talking about her hair being a trial to her when she tries to cut it shorter. If it looks like Augusto's I can see what she means.

EJ

Great recap Marta:

Kenya is a new character for this version. I agree that she looks too old for 17 but I guess they choose to cast an actress that could do bed scenes with Sergio Mayer without it being too icky.

Lic. is how you abbreviate licenciado before a name, eg: Lic. Damián Arango. The use of Lic is an informal way to call a licenciado.

Damián seemed a little presumptuous when he tried to get Florencia on Gael's horse. That was uncomfortable.

Doris: "Que hubo" is used in Mexico too.

Jarocha

Emilia - Are you sure you aren't a hairdresser on the side?

Forgot to say, Sabrina's beauty parlor looked to me more like one of those old barber shops that are usually kept by older men than something a young woman would choose to decorate.

Jarocha

Jarocha,
so they would also abbreviate Licenciado to 'Lic' when saying it? not just in writing? that is interesting..

Damián seemed a little presumptuous when he tried to get Florencia on Gael's horse. That was uncomfortable.
i agree, he did not even ask for confirmation/agreement, he was ready to help her climb up on Gael's horse without even asking.

Thanks Marta for the fun recap.

It wasn't Orangina's seduction technique, but Disgusto sitting there with his eyes closed and mouth open that had me grossed out and running from the room! And why does Disgusto wear broken glasses? Is that just a symbol of his intransigence?

Yes, I've heard Qué Hubo in Mex TNs before - most recently often enough in Una Familia, and I barely watch that show.

I'm thinking Horacio is going to keep turning my head even with the slacker hair. That actor is hot!

Loved the horses and the riders LOL!

I continue to be impressed with this production team. In spite of all the big grown-up meanies and bad events of a tough story, this TN is pulled together as if it were an act of love by the director, editors and writers: the tenderness of the scenes with the young people; the intimacy and lighting indoors and outside at night; the gorgeous shots of a lovely traditional puebla and beautiful countryside. And of course they are pulling the best out of the actors. It is just so beautifully done.

Audrey

Marta: Yes, but that's very informal. If you go to a work meeting you definitely call them "Licenciado". Usually, only young people and poor people use it. It's an obvious education and class distinction made by the side that lacks the studies needed to garner the title (wether because they are still too young to reach those studies or because they never had the opportunity to go to college).

Jarocha

Audrey, i agree on the 'so far so great' production, acting, script and locations wise...
Canaveral was much 'darker' but it was also the times... audiences were ok with novelas that were like that... but now people look to novelas to be entertaining, not to be even more depressed so if they were going to copy Canaveral the ratings would not be good. I LOVE the cast, script, and overall quality of production so far...

Oh, and Lic is considered respectful, even if it's informal. As I said before, it's a class distinction that denotes the "superiority" of the "Lic" in terms of studies. It's usually an amicable term (it sounds like admiration) but in this novela it seems like one of the barriers Gael uses to separate himself from Damián, his tone was quite sour when he used it.

Jarocha

Is it pronounced Lease? Leak?

more like Lick i would say.

in this novela it seems like one of the barriers Gael uses to separate himself from Damián, his tone was quite sour when he used it.

I agree, Jarocha... it also has to do with Gael's problems of self-worth... which is a good part of his harsh mood since Dam showed up in town... in Gael's mind he has no chance with Elisa if Dam is around.. EXCEPT of the little detail of Damian being engaged.

the whole 'lic' issue reminds me of LHDM where 'Francisco' would use the funny/ironic tone saying 'Doc-TORR' when talking to Macias... (esp with the real Emiliano actually having higher education and wealth than Macias...)

I think Sergio Mayer's role here will be sort of the lighthearted entertainment, where the audience looks forward to the 'new trick he will pull out of his sleeve from episode to episode', sort of the hole he filled in LFMB with his "Luigi Lombardi".

I would think it's pronounced lease since that's how you start saying the word licenciado.

"Lick" with a hard "c." It was also used in Teresa, when the lowlife accomplice was addressing Rubén.

In Dinero the main villain's accomplice called him "mi Lic" all the time. It was very funny. It is pronounced like lick.

Marta, I think that Elisa's face in that scene was my favorite... no doubt about what she was thinking.

Thanks EJ. Our Baylor ladies were awesome all season and especially during the tournament... annnddd... all 5 starters are planning to return next year. The Baylor men's team didn't have too a bad season either.

So far Horacio seems to be very rough around the edges and of course is dodging the law, but I get the feeling that he's not such a bad guy as some fear... maybe I'm just longing for a reprise of Brandon (LldA).

I loved her in Gancho and I think that Lolita is one of the most beautiful women in TNs. I wonder what she would be like as one of the bad girls?

I feel bad for Dr. Tovar. His characters always seem to be morally challenged and I'm afraid that he is no match for Carmina... heck, I'm not so sure that I could resist her... that is of course unless she started channeling Estefy.

Carlos

Lolita was a baddie in Teresa, right? Didn't she play Aurora's scamming mother?

Thanks for the recap! Actually saw this episode already but I still felt kind of behind.

So was Damian marrying Florencia because he really thought he was in love with her, or because she was convenient and lured him into it? He seems to merely tolerate her. I wonder if he was always lukewarm about it or if he was totally gung-ho until he was around Elisa again.

It seems to me that Damian is starting to rethink his life a bit, and that the countryside brings out the worst in Flo. The combination of these two things does not make for a happy couple.

Yes, Lolita was a baddie in Teresa-- a shock after her turn as the wonderful Gabi in Gancho.

The sound is like lick because it's as if the person saying it is only reading the abbreviature "Lic.".

I don't know if Cañaveral was darker in the writing, since this novela is using all the same events from Cañaveral while at the same time adding some more and making their characters more extreme (Carmina, Blanca, Augusto) and the love story scenes more angsty (with Elisa so far crying more than Julia at this point and Damián more "damaged" than cutie Pablo).

But I agree that the tone was darker, the stylistic choices made the places look more grimm, the music was all instrumental and especially designed to amplify what was going on on screen. Even the opening sequence gave a sense that we were in for some heightened drama (the end credits music changed depending on the last scene of the episode, the one in the link is for a strong shocking event).

Jarocha

Julia, I only watched the first few episodes of Teresa. I had to drop something and Teresa was the least appealing to me at the time... now I'm a bit sorry I missed it for a number of reasons.

I noticed in the credits that this is produced by Angelli Nesma Medina who also produced Llena de Amor, one of my favorites, and Un Gancho al Corazón which I thought was a masterpiece.

Carlos

Jarocha, that music almost sounds like Alfred Hitchcock! I've watched a couple of scenes of the original Cañaveral on youtube. Yep, pretty dark I'd say.

Carlos, I picked up Teresa about a third of the way through. I thought it was very well done for the most part.

Has it been mentioned here how long Damián and Florencia have been together? I can't remember.

Jarocha

Jarocha- It doesn't seem they have been together that long. When Damian told his mom about it she was shocked, and said he had never been interested in Flo before. It seems like she has visited Damian within the last year, so if he wasn't with Flo last time she saw him, it's been less than a year since they've been a couple.

I really liked Teresa, it's one of my favorite novelas of the last few years actually. I know it wasn't as appealing for many but I liked how it moved on from some typical telenovela clichés and how some characters acted more in line to how real people would than how the idealized telenovela versions made them and I like how their mistakes were part of what made those characters who they were instrad of this new telenovela tendency were the mistakes of the good guys are plot holes and we are supposed to ignore them and act like they are perfect anyway. The galanes had their downsides too, not just our heroine.

Jarocha

Vivi: that's interesting, perhaps they don't know each other that well here and Damián has only seen the pleasant side of Florencia.

In Cañaveral the characters were second cousins and Damián/Pablo was raised by Florencia/Gina's parents. That added a bigger commitment to their relationship from his side but he did know her well.

Jarocha

Jarocha- It seems that they have spent many vacations together as children. But the romance/noviazgo is recent. But vacation Flo, and novia Flo or novia Flo in the countryside are very different things. Damian may not know her as well as he thinks.

Thanks for that link Jarocha. It got me digging around at other clips of the early episodes. They really seem to be sticking to the old version. Not a bad thing since it seems to be so high quality.

Carlos, you may enjoy this clip. It has Azela (the Carmina role) and Bernardo from Llena playing the Gabino role. Am I right in guessing that the bandana our Gabino wears randomly is an homage to the original who wore one around his neck? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kuGHDVa5I0&feature=relmfu

Vivi: That makes sense.

I hadn't considered the idea of the bandana being a hommage but it makes sense.

Since we are bringing up old clips. I really wish this novela would have used this scene to illustrate why Augusto chose to stay with Carmina all those years. It wasn't just masochism and obstinence, there was a genuine intention to make it work that simply couldn't be realized.

Vivi and Jarocha, thanks for those clips. Azela Robinson is such an amazingly talented actress. Bernardo (LldA) is like an old friend for me. I've enjoyed him in a number of TNs plus I've watched him in quite a few very bad old movies on Cine Latino. in several he played a brutal gangster with a leonine mane. He has such a smarmy yet chilling smile. Perfect for Gabino.

Carlos

I thought Braulio had to leave town to work and that's why Lolita didn't marry him, but he seems to be around. Did I miss something?

I think that Lolita declined to leave town because she wanted to protect Elisa, and Braulio was well and truly miffed that she didn't put him first. He didn't mind Tonia too much, so he was willing to stay and marry her when Alfie gave him a better job offer. That's my guess. Maybe Alf didn't want to just throw Tonia out because she would still suffer the SHAME, egad, of the unwed parenthood still touching her high and mighty household, so she was willing to meddle to keep up whatever appearances she thinks she and her household have. Plus maybe it's hard to find a maid who will put up with her.
