Abismo de pasión #45 5/11/12: Ramona Blocks the Dam
Elisa Blocks Paloma
Alfonsina Blocks Gabino
Horacio Blocks Gael
Lolita Blocks Agosto
Guido Blocks Florencia
Kenia Blocks Ingrid
Procesadora-Reception Area
Ingrid stops to admire her new shiny check, puts it in a Bible, and they puts it in her purse. Ingrid is quickly packing her grip. She appears to be following orders and getting out of Dodge City.
Casa de Kenia
Damien: I got this. He ain’t gonna do jack.
Horacio: Well then, handle your business! I’ll step off.
Gael: Are you mackin’ on Elisa?
Labels: abismo
"a really super cool crème Members Only jacket with a Fonzarelli collar" (Ditch the jackets! We don't need another Augustin)
"I got big blue Nerf balls, he whines."
" If he knew her menstrual cycle, I’m sure he would have shared that with him too.
"Why on earth would I want her dead? We’re not being recorded right?"
And then the whole Cenote recap--(that's when I got my brain freeze!)
He of the jackets in 95 degree heat had me a bit miffed, and by the previews, I'm going to be even more miffed I'm betting. I get that Dam now wants to move in on Elisa, but does he have to be all pissy about it? And if the said previews ring true, I'm sorry, if I were Elisa that would be the LAST time I give Dam the time of day. Ultimatums!?!? And this is our hero, right?
And I have to admit Cynderella, Gabino just amazes how he goes from badass to sweet and lost. I have to give kudos to this actor because honestly, most of the time this type of character is played so one-note that it's boring. But Salvadore plays him with so many nuances. And, ok, damn, he looks good.
Note to writers--when Carmina needs to talk to her make-out buddies, can we cut the macking? Her guppy-style kisses are annoying enough, but dealing with her talking and guppy-facing at the same time. Annoying and gross as hell. Either that or turn the camera so all we get is the male in question. Thank you.
Lets hope either Irritating leaves like Right now, or Kenia's foreshadowing comes to pass. Bet Gabino makes Horacio do the dirty work...but II is one character I would not miss.
Now I am going to put down the Coolatta and re-read this Pièce de résistance.
Dynamite recap, amiga. Some favorite lines:
"Lucio Kravitz is telling all of Elisa’s business to Damien (I ain’t mad at him)."
And, like Daisy I howled at "I got big blue Nerf balls, he whines. You ain’t been paying attention to me."
On Paolo and Flo, "He didn’t make her clean Enrique’s uvula in plain view." So good!
As to Gael Kravitz, can anyone in this show keep their mouth shut? I don't think so.
Thanks, Cynderella, for another sexy, rollicking recap. ILMAO.EJ
Gosh darn, Ramona had to show up just when Dam was getting to the good part.
Is there anyone out there who knows for sure what's up with Una Familia con Suerte? I'm out of the country from Thusday 5/17 to Friday 5/25. I HATE these tw
4 1/2 two hour shows. So I was just checking a TV Guide site -- and it looks like a new show is starting on Thursday 5/24. Does anyone know if that is accurate?
Does the show really end on 5/23. I hate to miss the finale after all this time -- but my VCR can catch most of it if it really ends while I'm in Cuba.
Güera
p.s. I miss the old blogspot word verification when the made up words were almost real.
“Damián says…he’ll convince her. Not in that jacket.”
“Agosto immediately calms down, sprints around Gael and dives across a dirt road into order to get into the Kenia end zone first.”
“Guido apologizes to Damien. When they get to Mexico, Florencia will be put in the Time Out corner immediately.”
“Alfonsina calls Gabino. Get your furry little chest over here!”
“Ramona! Now is not the time for your Jedi mind trick, Mayan mystical, mumbo jumbo crap! Why isn’t she wearing a bell?”
Also loved the whole "who are the real Italians?" thing. I think we can get more mileage out of that!
Some faves:
"tongue wrangling" (Nice Western theme there, lady)
The "real Italian" quest...and your conclusion that Gael and Padre Lupe are more Italian than those phlegmatic Landuccis
"Big Blue Nerf Balls" (clearly a crowd favorite, I bet everyone mentions it)
"Horacio: Hold up! Man, don’t roll up on my boy like that! Back up!
Damien: I got this. He ain’t gonna do jack.
Horacio: Well then, handle your business! I’ll step off." (Hilarious)
And the final Harlequin romance paragraph...oh yeah, I was rolling with you all the way. Fantastic "pastiche" (that's French for you were bringin' it Cynderella!)
Thanks for cheering me up immensely after coming home from a very sad Memorial Service. You made me laugh out loud m'dear, and for that I will always be grateful.
i too was laughing at the scene at Augusto's fields when Kenya shows up and Augusto totally forgot he was ARGUING loudly with Gael, When hearing Kenya, Gael just turned around and put on a 'WTH are u here again for?' but Augusto totally lost track that Gael was there at all... it was all Kenya and him in the Universe from there on.
I loved Lolita's ultimatum to the Toad, who had the audacity to smirk at her. She has a lot of anger at his unfair treatment of his daughter and allowing the Orange Shrew to wreck havoc for years so he should watch himself; my money's on her as we know she would love to take on those two miscreants.
daisynjay - ITA about Dam. I don't know why jealousy is usually the first step in many heroes' journeys but it seems we must all go through this unnecessary and usually controlling and sexist exercise.
Kenia while on a better path to be close to her brother needs to stop that unfortunate habit of lying.
I'm still somewhat shocked Fina ordered a murder/disappearance. I know those who carry out the mission usually don't make so I think the boss is in trouble too.
I don't think Gabino or Horacio will kill Ingrid. Gabino likes her too much to do that.
So is it common to call Mexico City just Mexico?
I think that since Eliza became an adult, there have been maybe 1-2 episodes in which she didn't cry. I like that she's shouting a lot more now, but it doesn't seem to cut into her crying time.
I wonder what Gabino is going to do about Ingrid?
I can't believe Carmeany is sending Paolo after Elisa, AGAIN, and that he's agreed to it. Are her sloppy kisses really that convincing? Even needy Doc Tovar snapped out of it when she asked him to do shady stuff.
Didn't Elisa pretty much go this whole week without crying?
Lolita had a few zingers when speaking to Carmeany and Augie this espisode. She pointed out to Augie that he was looking for a fight with Elisa and told him to knock it off, and she told him that she had better things to do than to keep moving their crap back and forth to the guest bedroom. All this before challenging him to fight with her if he tries to touch Elisa. Go Lolita!
Cathy x : I am SO with you on missing the good word verifications. What can one say about "ttillyi" and "provrbie", which is what I have now. Give me "deldio" or "sheman" anyday.
Sweet dreams, Friends.
R la O
Gael tells Elisa that Damien doesn’t like seeing them so close. I think she tells Gael that if the shoe were on the other foot, he would fight for her. Help me out.
she said 'wasn't he the one that told you to give it a try with me?' or stte.
Lolita came in the room to ask whose clothes she should move to the guest room since she (Carmina) was the one that slept there last night... Carmina says her things STAY HERE...
THen Lola changes the subject and asks her how come when Carmina used to do WHATEVER she could to get AssBrain to notice her and pay attention to her, now she didn't really care that much (if he did)... (we all know it is because now she is setting her eyes on Paolo for her entertainment)... Carmina basically tells her to mind her own business.
musical chairs is right!
Lolita jumps in between them! She will not allow him to hurt Elisa. You can fight me, but unlike your daughter, I’ll fight you back! AND I FIGHT DIRTY! (I just added that in. It would have been cool if she said it!) Elisa cowers behind her. He considers taking on Lolita, but she stares him down. He leaves. Annnnnnnnd on queue. Sobs and Tears.
and i don't blame you for the distraction and describing your impressions of dam's pecs... yes, it will be repeated tomorrow...
And a final word of THANK YOU!! we had a major thunderstorm here in TX, believe it or not it affected BOTH the TX Univision transmission and again the UNIWest transmission so i meant to record from the UNIW what i did not see but the transmission at that time was even worse... so i missed a lot of scenes that you filled me in on. THANK YOU!!
and by the way, again great recap! I was smiling/giggling from start to end...
and to all mothers out there Happy mother's day!!!
I'm still somewhat shocked Fina ordered a murder/disappearance. I know those who carry out the mission usually don't make so I think the boss is in trouble too.
the set-up is already there... Ingrid told Kenya that she wanted to hang around another two days (48 hrs) to finish her business with Gael... and Fina ordered Gabino to take care of that buznez within 24 hrs... so i really doubt Ingrid will survive this coming week. poor Gael....
couple more things...
Kenia says that she doesn’t care if he knows.
what Kenya told Ingrid was that she was not interested in Gael finding out, she just wanted to get to know her brother and be close to him. that was enough for her.
when Padre Loopy engaged in the loud argument with Gael was when Gael spilled the little detail about him and Elisa hugging when Damian arrived to the fields... (Padre can tell Damian did not say anything BECAUSE Gael and Elisa were hugging), that is why Padre Loopy got mad. Gael argues 'what is wrong with showing her my affection, you have always taught me to express my feelings to everyone!', so Padre Loopy gets honest and tells Gael that Dam is in love with Elisa too.
thank you for clearing them up.
PL: Ay hijole contigo, mijito!! Hombreeeee!!!
LOL!
Or not. If she goes to the Big House, can I have her clothes?
Kenya and Gael at fields...
Gael asks her how come she found out he was Ingrid's son before he did. She reminds him he left her with Ingrid when he went to visit her at hospital. Ingrid was consoling her (for losing her baby) so Ingrid told her she also lost a baby, or rather left him at the door of the church many years before, and that that baby was Gael.
She adds that Gael should not trust Ingrid, that she is not convinced Ingrid is there to get back with him, but for some other agenda that Kenya is not trusting. Kenya does not want Ingrid to hurt Gael again (if it turns out Ingrid is there for some other agenda).
and i froze the dvdr at the check Ingrid showed Kenya... it was for 1.5 Million pesos (about $150K).
Cynderella, yw... i am glad i was able to help out with whatever i got in and out of the storm transmission skips.
remember when he burned the invernadero she had asked him to find a way to get Augusto ruined AND gone from town... well, he sort of got Augusto ruined, but Augusto did not leave town...
and now she gives Gabino another similar order... get rid of Ingrid..
I agree that she seems to automatically think if people leave town they will stop mortifying her permanently, but history should have taught her otherwise.. Kenya only took about 10 hrs to make a turnaround AFTER she had promised Alfie she would leave town with the check she gave her... Alfie should learn from her own mistakes but she is so up there in the clouds thinking she can rule the world, she can't see what is happening under her nose.
From what everyone is thinking, I'll be happy if Gab maybe sacrifices his Nerf balls and tells Ingrid to get out of town and fast. I'm thinking it's too early to spring the Rosendo father of the year news on Gael and Dam, so let her vamos and come back at the end to wreak her venom. I really do hate this character.
“You are messing up my game, man!!!!!”
“Carmina is sitting in front of her vanity. Must I be treated to two images of her?”
I also loved the blocking intro!
The only thing missing from your tribute to Kathleen Woodiwiss, “Ashes in the Wind,” or the best of Harlequin Romance beach reads is a mention of.........breeches, but what are you going to do, the guys are all wearing blue jeans!!!
Wonderful job, a joy to read Cynderella.
It’s interesting, the Alfosina/Gabino/Ingrid matter peaked my imagination too. Gabino has a choice, his work or his love (?) life, I think his work will win. His, “mi Doña” was a little reminiscent of the dialogue in Doña Barbara, and that was chilling. I felt that Alfie was hinting for Ingrid to disappear, not be killed, but “La Doña” has to know that Gabino does things to an extreme. Those of us who watched, “Teresa,” saw Isabella Camil, Paloma/Ingrid, disappear quickly, so I wouldn’t be surprised is she is a goner; but Daisy, it’s logical that the writers might want her back in the end to shake things up again. The next few days should be very interesting.
Thanks for all the clarifications, this novela is more difficult to understand than others! Mumbling, clenched teeth, shouting, crying and loud weird music aren’t helpful!
I was watching a day time rerun of some telenovela lately which had Sabine Moussier (Mouthcateer) in an earlier version of herself she had not earned enough to buy guppy lips or buckets of eye circling black stuff. She was actually really pretty and didn't talk in such false sounding horsedrama ways either. Too bad she has done all this to herself. She was funny in the dinner scene the other night though.
Guera, I am so jealous of you being in Cuba. I know this is Abismo's site but since I will be recapping Una Familia tomorrow night, I noticed too that the UFCS replacement listing is for 5/24 Thursday. I don't know if it means tht UFCS ends on Wed. or before with something filling in a few nights? Maybe we will get a date posting for the finale tomorrow night.
Some of my favorite Cynderellaisms:
Re Carmina in the mirror: "Must I be treated to two images of her?"
"Unfortunately, I can’t storm out with him because I have committed myself to watching on Friday nights."
Your Italian ID system is interesting. I do believe Padre and Gael might be more Italian than "the Italians".
"Big Blue NERF balls"
And the best line from the best paragraph ever: "Urgent fingers, tearing at buttons, rush to release a body shackled by the constraints of a white linen prison!" Ay ay ay!!
My take on the Fina/Gabino scene was that she did not want him to murder Ingrid, just to persuade her to leave town. If Fina only knew...
Cynderella, you are a naughty sweetie for making me laugh so hard at Dam Fine's bare chest scene. When he ripped his shirt off I yelled "Finally!!" Thanks amiga.
"Get your furry little chest over here!"
That's exactly what I heard.
A minor setback for or Augusto support group... not entirely unexpected. He is a project after all.
I'm very worried that Flo may actually be going back to Mexico. Noooo!
Carlos
I know I'm late to the party--had to chaperone my kids band trip--but I agree with everyone who said this was your BEST! OMG, hilarious!
Loved the "treasure tra--RAMONA!" paragraph! And the gangsta interpretation of the convo between Dam and Gael. Genius! Also all the stuff about the Members Only jacket and "Not in that shirt!" HAHAHA!
Marta--snaps to you for your awesome interpretations and for FREEZING THE DVR AND GETTING THE AMOUNT OF THE CHECK! You are my hero! When she flashed that check I thought the dollar amount was blocked by a potted plant.
I have so much to do today but couldn't resist reading this blog and it has been SO WORTH IT!!!
Thank you, amigas!
Katy
i still think $150K is fairly cheap compared to what should be half of the entire Arango empire there... and with Ingrid's lifestyle or the lifestyle she seemed to be used to, it would barely be enough for 6 mos... so not sure how she was so happy with just that... and if that was the amount for Ingrid, the check for Kenya must not have been more than $50K
I agree that Ingrid sold out relatively cheaply. If we're talking about a multi million dollar empire that her son could claim heir to--Kenia was right; her check was worth nada. I thought it was a very telling scene when Ingrid said she was outta there because she didn't think she could get more money out of Gael. Her true colors really came through; no care about seeing her long lost son again or the fact that she's essentially robbing him of a fortune by not telling him he's an Arango. Just all about what's best for her.
I want one of those check books like Alfonsinas where I can write hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans and hush money without batting an eyelash. Maybe she should have that cash in the stock market vs. just sitting in her checking account! But whatever! I'm still jealous!
Katy
absolutely Katy, not only her true colors, but she has come to know Gael well enough in such a short time to know HE WOULD NOT go for the 'hey it turns out i am an Arango too and I demand my half!!' ranting to Alfie. Gael is simply not like that, he could care less for the money. what he will be mad about is the emotional hardship he had to go through, that Alfie knew who he was and still treated him like trash. he won't feel so bad for his father once he knows Rosendo did care about him.
So as evil as it makes her look, Ingrid is very right in realizing she won't get anything out of Gael's identity. if he doesn't want it there is no way she can 'share it with him'.
I just got off the phone with them and they said I cannot get English subtitles on my Spanish shows. Is that true? Blue suggested going to CC4, but that doesn't do anything.
Ayudeme, por favor!
R la O
The actor playing Guido is Italian-Mexican but neither Flo nor Paolo are. Italians usually lose the accent extremely quickly so I don't think putting on an accent is necessary if the characters have so much time living/visiting Mexico, I guess that's why they picked that nationality. Although I don't understand why they had to be from another country at all, in Cañaveral they were from Mexico City.
Marta: A million and a half of pesos is enough for me. I don't think Ingrid would ever have a chance in live to see that much money together so I can believe it seems like alot to her. With the kind of job she does she probably makes around 8 thousand pesos a month at the most if she's very lucky (96 thousand pesos a year), so that's at least more than fifteen times what she'd make in a year.
