Abismo de pasión #59 6/1/12: Not Everyone Is Impressed by a Plunging Neckline, Daisy Dukes and Boots Made for Walking
Labels: abismo
The important reveal about the jewelry is that Lolita finally told everyone about Carmeany having the same jewelry as Stefi, that supposedly their father gave both of them. Hopefully someone will mention this to Augie, because he’s likely the only one who knows this is not true, and that Carmeany has has Stefi’s jewels all along.
So, two cliff hangers. Both a bad girl and a good girl (Kenia and Elisa) will have to decide if they want to sell their souls to the devil (Ingrid and Alfie) in order to save one poor, sad sack (Augie). This guy does not deserve this much sacrifice.
The conversation between Alfie and Guido was something like this: Alfie is pushing the idea of Flo and Dam being an item again. Guido says he’d love that, but Flo did step out on Dam, Dam is totally now into someone else, and he would only want Flo and Dam back together, IF that is what BOTH of them want. Alfie ignored that last part. Guido also apologized for not having the cash to pay back her loan yet. Alfie doesn’t care about that. He can pay her back once he’s out of financial trouble.
In her conversation with Tonia, Alfie gave Tonia the job of keeping Brau away from Dam (since he is Dam’s ally). If she doesn’t do this, then Alfie will tell Brau about Tonia’s fling (about 9 months before Vicente’s birth) with Gabino. Tonia agrees to do it, but also demands that Alfie help keep Gab away from Vince. Doesn’t seem to me that Alfie lived up to her end of the bargain.
Doc Tovar left the hotel room to get Sabrina a room. No slumber party for Sabrina and Quique. At this point they should just put Begonia in the hotel, and all return to the house. Maybe send her to live with Alfie. Alfie could hire her to keep tabs on Dam and report all that she sees/hears.
Yay! You don't know this, Cynderella, but you are really giving me something to look forward to this afternoon. Me lovey some Cynderecap. I'll check back in shortly.
I think Gabino managed to convince Alfie to let Useless Vicente remain the "personal assistant" (I love the way Alfie said it) because Useless could be a snitch for them, blabbing if Braulio helps Elisa, etc.
Cynderella, Novia de Gabino Mendoza, so many funny lines, but I think this made me laugh the loudest: "You can’t stay here in the man cave. We might want to scratch in odd places."
I also had Vivi's thought, that Doc and the kids should move back into the house and kick Begone-Ya's skinny butt out.
I was yelling at Elisa to NOT make a contract with the devil, er Alfonsina. That just has all kinds of bad about it.
Thanks Cynderella!
"Stand there and watch while I write a love letter to the woman that I love. Can you hand deliver it to her for me? I want you to eat your heart out." I just sat there thinking "For the love of...Seriously? What the hell is wrong with both you and Elisa--they must have gone to the same class on "How to cheer up your lovelorn friend when the are down by stomping on their heart 101". Maybe they do deserve each other.
I'm really hating this upcoming plot with II claiming to be dying. I'm nauseous and the scenes with her and Gael haven't even happened yet. I PRAY he sees thru it, or Kenia spills the truth. Please please please.
I'm also none too pleased that Elisa would take the money to save that sorry excuse of a sperm donor AND use the fields as collateral. But we know there's way too many episodes for Dam and Elisa to get together now, so I'm almost guessing how she decides.
Previews were awesome, looks like next week sees a lot of slapping, arguing and of course, tears.
Man, the camera was crawling down his tonsils as he bellowed. Even on my crappy small TV it was more than I wanted to see...or hear.
Your asides are always so "rico". My favorite was "Well, that's kind of your fault since you were caught inspecting Enrique's cavities with your tongue." [Alfonsina to Florencia]
On the conversation between Ramona and Paloma, the latter was exultant that Gael was back in town--and swearing that she would find a way to convince him that she could make him happy--and that he would never leave again.
Ramona was silent and dour. Why? Well, you'll accuse me of raining on your parade...but I just don't want you to get your hopes up...or dream dreams that might not come true, mutters Granny.
Sooo...sounds like it's gonna be a long time...or maybe never...before Paloma lands Gael. Since Granny is a seer, that was a real downer. On the other hand, we know her gifts are limited since she's never figured out the deal between Carmina and Rosendo.
And another worrying thing was that Damian's amulet has "disappeared". It wasn't in the hospital packet that Señor Landucci gives Alfonsina, and that evil mother claims to know nothing about it. (Of course she stole it, the witch!)
You have all my sympathies for having to recap without closed captions. The first show I recapped had a cc failure and I was frantic trying to figure out what the galan (who was speaking slang at warp speed) was saying.
And dialogue is always easier to understand if you're not under the tension of having to recap. Performance anxiety is a bitch.
But who cares? As far as I'm concerned, with your marvelous sense of humor, you could make up the whole thing and I wouldn't mind. Just let that saucy mind of your run free, amiga.
R la Otra's "me lovey some Cynderecap" goes for us all.
Smoopie bear was hilarious!
JudyB:
"And dialogue is always easier to understand if you're not under the tension of having to recap. Performance anxiety is a bitch."
Amen, sistah!
Vivi- Good observations and comments.
After all the near death wounding of Damian, we didn't get to see nakedness not even once. What a rip.
I wish he would tell Flo to just leave. She bugs me how she hangs all over him and is in his face all of the time.
I agree that Augusto doesn't deserve any sacrifice that will be made for him. I don't like him at all. Now Elisa will sacrifice all happiness for a man who has mistreated her ever since her mom died. Ugh.
----
So true. Not *one scene* with a strategically draped bedsheet exposing a bandaged thigh. We was robbed.
I wonder if Elisa's poor fashion sense is because she grew up without a mother. Those daisy dukes were something else.
A big shout out to Elisa for a (rare) TEAR FREE capitulo. You know you are crying too much when even the bad guys like GaBBE (Best Boyfriend Ever) are talking about it. Save up those electrolytes, Elisa, so that you can climb the tower walls to enter the chambers of your strangely emasculated lover to free him from thrall under the spell of his evil sorceress mother and her brightly garbed apprentice!
And now the queen is forcing Elisa into a Devil’s choice between an abusive father who, through Elisa’s entire life, has thought the worst of her and a passive-aggressive boyfriend who, over the short span of their adult relationship, has repeatedly thought the worst of her. Elisa, make the right choice… Gael (or, maybe, Kenia. Now that would be a twist nobody saw coming!)
Ah Kenia..best ever and the dream of “modelos antiguos” everywhere. Too bad you aren’t here to stay.
And Ramona. How does she know everything that’s going on? My take:
(1) Ramona has the only working cell phone (A Planet of the Apes commemorative model) in ErmitaVille. I’m in the cenote; Can you hear me now? And
(2) Ramona is best buds with Be-Gone-Ya!! Who knew they were college roommates?
I think I'll go with option 1 for Ramona--or she has one heck of a crystal ball somewhere. I would think if she and Be-gon-ya were every roomies, said snippy gossip would not have made it alive to be in this TN.
I just love your conversational style. You make us feel like we're sitting in the theater in a big rowdy group, elbowing each other and giggling at the good parts while the people around us are giving us the stinkeye and shushing loudly.
Don't worry about missing stuff. The thing about telenovelas (and real life) is that everything gets repeated a gazillion times in a gazillion different ways. Redundancy, thy name is Soap.
I've actually toyed with the idea of recapping an episode with the sound muted and just writing about what I see. I have a feeling I wouldn't miss much... :)

You're such a hoot, NovelaMaven! And I bet you're right!
- Did Gael leave? He was gone 15 minutes. At best, he drove around the corner.
- I need you drugged and incoherent so that I can seduce you.
- Babe, you have performed some amazing porn star tricks on me. If I would have known, I would have dated cougars sooner.
I know what you mean about missing the cc's. When mine wink out, I panic. I understand most of it, but I need my training wheels...
"The Love Letter from Hell (from Gael’s Point of View)" That whole letter scene was achingly sad. Elisa inviting Gael in to stay and talk is just plain tone deaf!
"Paolo Feels Like a Piece of Meat After He Gets Chewed Up and Spit Out by a Cougar" That's a truly funny visual! Thanks Cynderella!
I'm hoping Kenia is the best double agent ever.....doing what ever it takes to scam the professional scammers of the money scammed from the biggest scammer in La Ermita, ALFONISA, to ultimately help the good guys! Viewerville should have hired an accountant to "follow the money" with this storyline!
What has happened to our Damian? His major strength was the way he used to blow off Alfie, but now he seems to be a fly caught in the "Black Widow" spider's web! (Sylvia: another spider/fly analogy!) Wake up Damian!
La Paloma
loved the plunging neckline theme... and the plaid shirt membership requirement to the 'La ERmita men's club' group.
I too thought this was a really hard day in Gael's life... first he goes to visit Damian and has to endure that 'let me write a love letter to the woman you love while you watch me and your heart melts down in sadness... then he has to deliver such letter and Elisa wants to talk of how life is so wonderful that Dam will make it and still loves her.. no she wants to talk about him, as if she wants to make sure he will be alright without her with all the other things dancing around in his life... (hello woman! Gael the man who would die for you just delivered a love letter from the man you love and you can only think of talking to him about what his life is about? really? do you need to?... talk about twisting the knife in the open wound!)
then Gael's door seemed to be an airport departures gate, everyone had to check on him and use him as a mediator (even Kenya wanted to do something FOR ELISE and Augie THROUGH Gael!
and Even Gabino came to ask Gael to do something for the woman who has beem missing from his life for twenty some years and suddenly wants him at her side because she is gravely ill?? GMAB 1000 times over!!!
here are some of the 'expansions' you asked for help with..
Witch Mountain
Please someone interpret this conversation. I didn’t have ccs. I was watching on line.
Basically Paloma is all excited and raising her hopes about Gael for his return. But Ramona cuts her short saying He might be nearby but he is farther away from you than ever. You will see.
Elisa offers to put up Estefania’s necklace. Lupe tells her no.
I think you meant Lucio, not Lupe. Anyway, Both Lucio and Gael agree that the necklace is one of the few memories she has of her mother so she should not part with it. they will come up with something else…
Procesadora…
Gab basically tells Alfie that Damian had not only signed a purchase of product agreement with Elisa but also had arranged for some of the procesadora workers to go help out at Elisa’s greenhouse project. But he took care of it (has banned the employees to go work there basically)… Alfie asks Gabino for the contract that Damian and Elisa had signed, but also to write down the exact amount of Augusto’s bail in a little paper for her.. (boy she is detailed with her instructions, isn’t she?)
Though this TN does give us tid-bits like Gabby outing the Orange Menace, there are parts that are repetitive. And this return of the total domination of Alfie is a bit difficult to stomach. Dam becomes a wimp and won't contest his mother or his ex obvious imprisonment of him.
If these writers/producers know a good thing, they would keep Kenia. She's such a wonderful and complicated character.
---
LOL. My head just exploded.
"What has happened to our Damian? His major strength was the way he used to blow off Alfie, but now he seems to be a fly caught in the "Black Widow" spider's web! (Sylvia: another spider/fly analogy!) Wake up Damian!"
---
Maybe it's all the painkillers? He doesn't seem near enough annoyed with Flo, either.
- Did Tonia drop dead?
- The lighting is better in the kitchen and she wanted him to get a better look at her boobies
- Guido walks in and rudely interrupts the view
- crutches that he borrowed from Carmina
But... my VERY FAVORITE Cynder line of the day was over on the hunks' post where you said "I feel like such a tramp". LOL That really tickled my funny bone!
Sara - I'm digging your I Heart Kenia blog pic. I am also Hearting the name "Kenia".
Thanks again.
R la O
If that happens there will be nobody worthy of Paloma, who is going to need somebody as soon as she learns a few ugly unrelated truths.
And when is the DNA test thing finally getting resolved?
I have just been informed by Madeline that Univision is retunning Para Volver a Amar at 9AM EST every Sunday and then again at 4PM EST. If you have not seen this one I highly recommend it. I only saw it on DVD and I am excited to see it ALL!!
Mark looks very different. not quite the Emiliano of LHDM but certainly nothing like Gael here.
ok so the bliss is over, seems most of those marriages are on the tight rope by now. thanks Sara!
hmmm one of the 'brides' is Dona Paz from Refugio para el Amor... she looks MUCH younger in PVAA.
maybe this TN should be called 5 or 6 DYSFUNCTIONAL homes....
I knew you would enjoy seeing Mark Tacher, Marta ;-)
I haven't seen a lot of TNs, but this on is my all time favorite...I can only assume that seeing every singe episode will only make me like it more.
the marta of 20 yrs ago did same thing... nowadays i would just tell my boss take this job and shove it!!
I am dismayed.
Surely, no one in their right mind can find anything about this woman that is redeemable. Her hatred has fueled her life force for so long that it will surely consume her.
Damian looks like he is becoming weaker and unable to fight against the two steamrolling women who know plot to control his life.
I am, once again, dismayed.
Does anyone think that greasy Gabino is out to harm Gael so that slothful, slutty Ingrid can use Gael for more money? Gabino begging Gael to seek his mother reeks of a trap to me.
OT: This weekend I saw the movie "For Greater Glory" with Andy Garcia (Academy Award Nominee), Ruben Blades, Catalina Sandino Moreno (Academy Award Nominee), Eva Longoria, Peter O'Toole (Academy Award Nominee) and Karyme Lozano.
This is a movie about the Cristero War in Mexico from the period 1926-1929. This period is also known as the "Cristiada".
The theatre was full. The cast (Latinos!!) excellent. Never have I seen a film where so many Latinos were given first billing and leads in a film. The actors had impressive resumes (http://forgreaterglory.com).
This is a very violent film. If I had known how violent, I probably would not have attended, but it felt so gratifying to see so many wonderful Latinos on that screen. There were a few other actors who had TN experience, but as I have not seen many TN, I do not recall seeing them.
In any event, another bit of minutiae for the day.
Thank you for this website.
Interestingly, the history of this war extends into this century as one of the children in this story was beatified by Pope Benedict in 2007.
I have been spurred on to investigate this history further as I am interested in finding more about the president of Mexico, Plutarco Calles, who wrote the edicts against the Catholic Church.
Coolidge was the American president during that time. The American ambassador to Mexico was sent to negotiate with Calles. Per the movie (I'm not sure if this is historical fact), the Americans primary interest was in securing and maintaining their 50 year accord with Mexico for access to their petroleum fields.
It wasn't until the ambassador saw the carnage, that the Americans understood the extent of what was really happening.
Ruben Blades portrays Plutarco Calles. He did an excellent job.
i agree, i am going to give this a good try to stick to watching it as regularly as i can. I agree with your analogy, Sara, it does remind me of that 30 something tv series of a while back... just that the spousal betrayal and abuse sort of gets to me at times. cannot say been there on the physical abuse stuff, but it does ring back some memories so it gets sad for me a times.
Vivi and Sylvia: When Sabrina arrived at Daddy's hotel room, already overcrowded with Enrique, I thought the same thing - you guys go back home and find Begoñia a room somewhere where she can flap her lips.
Somehow I just can't see Elisa selling out her future, especially with that pearl necklace available. Taking that off the table as an option just doesn't seem believable with the deal that Alfonsina offers as the only alternative. And as I understand it, she's offering a loan with the land as collateral. I say sell the necklace.
Also, as much as I like having Flo around to look at, unless she picks up her game a bit, I say send her back to Mexico. Right now she's a pale imitation of the Ilitia I adored in LldA.
As much as we despise Carmina and Ingrid, both must be very good at what they do.
Carlos
It was another fun weekend con mis amigos. Thank you.
Sara, EJ, Marta please know I appreciate the work you do for your recaps, especially after doing a few Tuesday El Tal recaps, but can't seem to find much commenting time at the beginning of the week. Just wanted to let you know it's not personal, and I am there in the cenote with you in thought.
See you guys on Friday!
R la O
This time I am really leaving. Bye Guys!
