Weekend Discussion: Hombres de Verano; Principes de Telenovela

I thought with the summer coming up and novelas heating up it was time for a poll with a lot of eye candy for the ladies.  Since one picture is worth a thousand words (and takes up a little less space) I thought I'd let the photos speak for themselves.  So, without further ado, let's choose the best bod of our favorite TV heroes:

Gabriel Soto of Un Refugio Para el Amor:

Mark Tacher and David Zepeda of Abismo de Pasion:

Jose Ron of La Que No Podia Amar:

Jorge Salinas of La Que No Podia Amar:

Eduardo Yanez of Fuego en la Sangre:

William Levy of Triunfo del Amor

Diego Olivera of Triunfo del Amor / Amorcito Corazon:

Aaron Diaz of Teresa / El Talisman

Refael Novoa of El Talisman

Marcello Cordoba of La Fuerza del Destino

Christian de la Fuente of Corazon Salvaje

Eugenio Siller of Una Maid en Manhattan

Mario Cimarro of Los Herederos del Monte

Osvaldo Rios of Triunfo del Amor

Uriel del Toro of La Que No Podia Amar

Marco Mendez of La Que No Podia Amar

Sebastian Rulli of Teresa

and finally, Fernando Colunga (like this competition is even serious)

and a villain, Salvador Zerboni of Abismo de Pasion

and villain Julian Gil of La Que No Podia Amar

Sergio Sendel of Una Familia Con Suerte

and villain Armando Araiza of Abismo de Pasion

BONUS:  Alejandro Fernandez, He of the Sexiest Voice Ever for Novela Themes

There were photos I couldn't find that seem to have disappeared off the web; there were others I wish existed (like the shirtless images of Christian de la Fuente from CS 2009) but this is the best for now.  What say you, amigas?

Great idea, UA! :D I'm never against having a little eye candy on a lazy Saturday! :D

Alas, the Fernando Colunga picture isn't showing up!

Of the others that I can see, my vote(s) would be for Marcello Cordoba and (por supuesto!) Jorge Salinas. Just because I love those two guys. I think all the men shown here look great with their shirts off, though.

Did you try reloading the page?

I checked my other on this page and it's fine (I have three tabs with this site for the three different novelas' discussions).

Dear UA,
What a love you are! This is absolutely amazing and a wonderful way to start the weekend.

Bless these dear fellas for working out so hard in the gym, and you for culling these pictures.

Of course Cynderella will be heartbroken that you didn't include a picture of the actor who portrays Gabino.

No, the pictures is not showing up for me, despite my greatest efforts. You "hotlinked" to the picture on someone else's site; sometimes the site owners don't like that and prevent images from showing up anywhere else. It probably would be better to re-upload the image to a Photobucket account or something.

Well, now the picture is showing up! :D

Updated with a couple of extra... disfrutalos!

Bless you!

I'm active on another forum where we all contribute photos to a thread of this type (although we have to be careful of the deshabille of our subjects) and I'm one of the most popular contributors because of our collection of gorgeous men.

One great thing about searching for the pictures is that you see ones that are up to 20 years old. That's how to see that Fernando, Jorge, and Eduardo all look better now than when they were in their 20s. I've never cared for the little-boy look and to me men start looking more interesting when they're in their 30s.

different strokes for different folks!
thank you UA!
for my taste, Gabriel and Julian are a bit overdone overhard...
so i am going more for folks looking like Mark T or william Levy, Colunga or even Eugenio Siller. but then again that's just my 2 cents worth.

They are all lovely to look at and a great way to start the weekend. Thank you!!!

But if I really have to choose, it's Marcello Cordoba and Cristian de la Fuente that really do it for me. Maybe I appreciate the guys that fly under the radar a bit. There's also something just so manly about these two. They are nice to look at, without trying too hard.

We say, "¡¡Olé!!"

Oh what a wondrous way to start the weekend. I may never get out to run errands. May the TN gods grant your every wish for putting this together.

Like a smorgasbord, tempting to go with just a little of everything. But I admit to staring a tad longer at the Tacher, Cordoba and always Colunga (the classic right?)

Urban- You may want to add El Talisman to Aaron Diaz header, since that where we're currently watching him strut his stuff.

And it was this promo picture that convinced many of us to give that train wreck of a telenovela a try in the first place: http://www.zimbio.com/member/telenovelas/articles/6nqPFqJ1K1W/Foto+de+Aaron+Diaz+en+El+Talisman

UA - Great to wake up to these photos first thing in the morning! Gracias, amiga.

I'm loca for Eduardo Yanez. Love how he moves, his smile, his hands, and all the other good stuff - he makes me both howl at the moon and laugh.

But I give props to Gabriel Soto and Julian Gil. They're late 30s-40 and have really kept it together.

Que guapos! Gracias UA! Un buen soprisa esta sabado!

Ahhhh UA! What a way to start a Saturday! I think we should discuss each and every picture, one at a time.

Jorge Salinas is looking supurb in his lava-lava, but isn't something....missing? Oh, never mind, I just found it in Aaron Diaz' whitey tighties.

Rosemary la Otra

UA thank you so much for this. This pics are all great. My favs are Eduardo Yanez, FC, Gabriel Soto, well really all of them, lol. What terrific eye candy. Agree with Judy B about how hard they work at the gym.

Great photo, Vivi. There was a similar one of Mario Cimarro but I'm not finding it this morning.

Glad you're all pleased. Some of these guys need new photos.

You have my bad boy Mario C. Wow you've made my day.

Yowza! Choose? CHOOSE? Hmmm...I will have to keep reviewing the data and get back to you.

Thanks UA!

I have only seen Julian Gil as Skeletor on LQNPA. I did not know that *that* is what lay beneath the abogado suit. They should have cast him as a ranch hand. A sweaty, shirtless, sack o' potatoes lifting ranch hand.

Yum! And I mean that with all due respect to these boys. Nice way to start the weekend. Thanks!

Kelly

Nice pictures!

My favorite ones are Jorge Salinas and Marcelo Córdoba. Salinas was the first telenovela galán I couldn't stop sighing for when I was just eight years old and he played honorable and brave cop Ángel in Dos Mujeres Un Camino and Marcelo is just so attractive and charming.

Jarocha

I know I'm weird, but I prefer thin, wiry guys, and for that reason I prefer for TN galanes to leave their clothes on! So many of these men son tan guapos en la cara, but for me they've kinda ruined themselves putting in so many hours in the gym.

So I'll vote on the faces:
1. Aarón Díaz
2. Guess Who (and who IS that? I need to know!)
3. Jorge Salinas

But if I was ranking by sexual charisma and not just beauty, Salinas would be #1.

Karamy

Now I feel like a tramp. I can't tag myself Cynderella, Novia of David Zepeda, William Levy, Aron Diaz, Eugenio Siller, Osvaldo Rios, Mario Cimarro, Victor Hugo Cabrera and Salvador Zerboni. It not decent AND blogger won't give me the character space (believe me, I've tried).

I'm guessing that "Guess Who" is un argentino. I see Italian ancestry.

Karamy

I was thinking that the photo of David Zepeda is not one of his best, so I thought I'd post this link for his admirers:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/5j726i959pcpahxjnn4d6e5d6c6d1bd_david-zepeda-ii.jpg

Guess Who--that's Alejandro Fernandez (sp?) right? Thought I'm recognizing the face, but had no idea that bod went with that voice. Have him in my ipod--now a whole new fun way to "appreciate" those tunes.

Ohmigosh..izzat Hugo? If it is, I sure hope he's cast in a lead role soon soon soon.

And thanks for including Gabino, UA...we couldn't leave Cynderella bereft now could we? Gracias again.

How about "Cynderella, Novia de Todos los Guapos"? ;}

Daisinjay, yep that's Alejandro Fernández. Given that he has sang so many telenovela themes now it makes sense for him to be there.

Jarocha

Ooooo... thanks for the reminder. I will add Hugo to this post.

And yes, that last one is Alejandro Fernandez. If sex appeal were a weapon he's have to be classified as "nuclear."

OK. If Gabriel Soto will agree to take his shirt off on Refugio, I will agree to put him on the list of my boyfriends. OK, I don't even watch Podia, but if Uriel, will agree to take his shirt off at my house, I will put him in the number one spot on the list of my boyfriends. He must also wear that little costume he has on the picture. Goodness!

Ladies, do you know Eduardo Yañez is in his 50s? I must say he's holding up EXTREMELY well.

But I like 'em slim & furry myself. Let me offer you Sergio Sendel:

http://www.metroflog.com/giancarlo79/20091012/1

Mi GUSTA!! Yummy, handsome Colunga and Alejandro Fernandez my faves!!. What happened to Sebastian Ruli? I know I'm greedy. Thanks for fantastic photos.
Carolina

I don't know what happened to Sebastian, but he's here now (better late than never) and so is Sergio.

I think I've seen Sergio with more muscle than this, but I couldn't find the right photo. Personally, I think he looks great in uniform, but there aren't enough stories with military heroes for such a thread. I can only think of three.

UA...you are such a Giver! Every time I come back to the site, there are new delights.

Thanks for that rippin' great picture of Hugo ...and Sebastien Rulli and Sergio are an unexpected bonus. We ladies are indeed beholden to you.

Thanks For adding Ruli! You rock Urban.

Carolina

Blue Lass- yeah isn't EY fab. When I first saw him, I thought he was maybe late thirties. lol. When I found out how old he really was, I thought it was a typo lol. He's the reason I started watching TN's to begin with.

It's just too hard to pick one. Or two. Or three. I think I'd do anti-Catholic things with any one of these guys. Not to mention several side characters who look pretty darn good in a suit even if we don't get to see them shirtless. It's nice to know there's a counter weight to all the bosomry going on.

Kelly

Which theme songs has Alejandro sung?

Alejandro has a great song on Youtube called "Tantita Pena." I showed it to my students, and they loved it.

His Dad sings the theme for Amor Bravío, which is very good. They sound a lot alike.

And is Mario Cimarro the actor who plays Horacio in AdeP?

Well, that pic of Sebastian Rulli sure is smoking. My fave recently was that People en Español of Mark Tacher OMG! Then I have that one of Rafael Novoa that is a long time fave.

Rafael Novoa is hot

Alejandro also sang the themes to La Esposa Virgen, Nina Amada Mia, and Manana es Para Siempre.

If you can find his music videos online some of them are real masterpieces.

UA THANK YOU so much for this. Judy noted you are a giver and this is a great gift for all of us who enjoy handsome and their bodies.

Oh Audrey... that People picture of Mark T in the shower would be up in my dorm room if I were in my 20s and away at college. Somehow I don't think my husband would appreciate me hanging it now.

I would be mad if my husband had spent the whole evening looking at the telenovela chulas. So I guess that is why while he is watching the game, I'm hidden in another room looking at the pictures and hitting my refresh button.

What a great weekend activity!

I agree with you UA about sergio in a uniform. when I saw him in la esposa virgen I just about died, sooooo attractive! can't help but smile whenever I see him

jlk

UA y jlk y especialmente Blue: I just googled the Sergio picture in uniform. Nice!

Thanks much UA! I really enjoyed your lineup. :-)

Appreciate you adding Rafael. That talented actor sure got the short shrift in Talismán! He was so amazing in Pura Sangre (the Columbian original for Mañana Es Para Siempre) and great in Corazón Abierto. I'm used to him playing a brilliant guy, so the Pedro character has been hard to take LOL!

Alejandro Fernández also sang the themes for María Isabel and Infierno en el Paraíso.

I think those two are my favorite of his Telenovela themes and the least I've liked is the one for MEPS (but that might be because they overused it in the novela).

Jarocha

Oh and you know who else I find just gorgeous? Marco Méndez aka Esteban from LQNPA. I wish Televisa would give him better roles.

Jarocha

I added Marco, Jarocha. I wish he'd do something better with his hair. The premature grey is not contributing to his ability to get better parts.

Wow! Each time I come back here it keeps getting better. Thanks for the additional pics. Marco M. is another one of my faves. I actually like his grey hair because it makes those beautiful eyes of his pop. But I would love it if he got better roles, much like my other underappreciated fave Marcelo C.

If anyone can come up with a list of novela actors who have ever played men in uniform (soldiers, sailors, pilots, cops) I'll do that thread next weekend. I can only think of a handful of them.

For fun, go back to the Rafael picture and look at the anvil hanging over his head.

Ooooo! Thanks for adding Armando Araiza! :-)

And what's with these semi-desnuda guys wearing rosaries? LOL!

I don't know. I notice that Jose Ron wears one in LQNPA, but I've never known whether it's proper to wear them or not.

That photo of Uriel del Toro made me wonder whether he has ever performed in Solo Para Mujeres because someone else we adore wears the Tarzan getup in the video (Do not expand to full screen because the resolution doesn't hold up).

BTW, if that link violates any rule of this blog, please advise and I will remove the post. I don't want to get bounced off this blog!

I would like to know what the history is behind Solo Para Mujeres. I think it's brilliant, but it would never happen in the States-- the biggest male television stars of the moment doing traveling Chipendale-like shows for their female fans. Who is behind putting this together and how do they convince the male stars to do it? I appreciate that LatAm male stars are so willing to play up their hotness for their female fans. Here, it's only the other way around, with every sexy female tv and movie star gracing the cover of HM magazine at some point wearing something skimpy.

Sergio Mayer is the producer, so he might have something to do with convincing Televisa stars to do this show. What's interesting is that there is/was a version of it in Puerto Rico and Osvaldo Rios starred in it at some point.

There are numerous videos on YouTube of different versions, even amateur ones. What I think has happened with this show is that they change it up here and there with different music and costumes in order to get repeat viewers in the audience. A couple of the videos pan the audience and there are only women in the seats.

How refreshing!

Solo Para Mujeres has been around for a long time. I remember one of the members from the first cast was Alexis Ayala, the doc from Abismo, and I think Sergio Sendel was also there at the begining.

Jarocha

Wow!! What a panoply of shiny skin and poses to heighten our imagination (and libido).

Shirtless men, we women of any age, can't live without 'em.

Thank you UA, for every morning I wake up to drool over an ever increasing glossary of glossy men.

Wish you could find a better shot of Fernando Colunga. He's been shirtless in quite a few tns. I remember a scene in MEPS where he's just stepped out of the shower and he's on the phone. His towel reveals his manhood quite nicely.

Another favorite who hasn't been seen shirtless in awhile (but has graced us with his abs) is Fernando Carrillo (Maria Isabel, Rosalinda, Siempre Te Amare).
Anita

Great additions UA. Thanks for all your hard work...and theirs!

You're all very welcome.

Unfortunately I can't find much with the basic searches. I've added titles to see if I can get better results but the earlier photos keep coming up.

The thing with Fernando Colunga is that his physique sometimes varies by novela. I remember him saying in an interview that he changed his workout for a novela de epoca to accommodate what he thought was more historically appropriate. Not to mention that I think his face is more interesting now than before he was 30.

UA--We applaud your efforts and are grateful, beyond words.

As to Fernando, I'll take him shirtless or fully dressed, long-haired in pirate garb, as a noble-adventurer, or illegitimate heir to a huge rancho during the "unpleasantness" of the mid-1800s in his incarnations as Ricardo, Luis and Manuel.

Back to fantasizing.
Anita

Here's a site with child photos of FC (so cute!), and then a last more recent one of him shirtless.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/43187/message/1151667270/FERNANDO+COLUNGA,+gal%E1n+desde+chiquito

I love Fernando's historical versatility. The only other Televisa actors who could possibly get close to that are Diego Olivera and Sebastian Rulli. No wonder so few novelas de epoca are made.

Jarocha, can you tell us how successful novelas de epoca are in Mexico ratings-wise? I know they cost much more to make, but I wonder if they are as successful with the audience as the others.

The last ones haven't done that well. I think Alborada was the last successful one but Amor Real was the last booming success, Pasión and the Corazón Salvaje remake did horribly.

The period telenovelas from the 90's did much better and I actually think they had better production values. I think the problem is that Televisa doesn't have the economical stability that it once had and now there's so much more competition (new networks, cable, internet, video games). They can't give their producers the same kind of budget as they once did.

Jarocha

UA- I used to think that about Marco Méndez (that maybe he'd be even more attractive if he dyed his hair,) but then in TDA he had dark-dyed hair and he looked dorky and awful, although I'm not sure if it was the color or the early-Beatlish hairstyle.

Anyway, I was glad when he turned up in LQNPA with his usual very short grey hair, and once again looking hot.

Karamy

Amor Real had everything going for it (except the title song, which was out of place because modern pop doesn't fit this genre).

Some fold may disagree, but I didn't like Susanna Gonzales in Pasion. She somehow doesn't fit that time period or maybe I was annoyed at how the thing was costumed. The more recent novelas de epoca been haphazardly costumed for whatever period they're happening in (although CS 09 wasn't too bad for that) and the modern pop music in them is ridiculous. CS 1993 was so perfect because its music was 100% orchestral, as it should have been.

It's a pity about the budget cuts because TV in general will suffer. I suppose that's why there are so many remakes.

Hey everybody, I just read in this week's TIME magazine that Stefan Ruiz has released a photography book about Televisa Studios -- it's called The Factory of Dreams. There is a nice web album here:

http://www.stefanruiz.com/index.php?/projects/the-factory-of-dreams/

Whoops - not quite out yet. Book will be released July 31st. $31.50 on Amazon.

Thanks, Urban Anthropologist! I especially enjoyed the Sebastian Rulli - I haven't watched him in anything in a while, but I remember thinking that he was the hottest thing on the face of the earth.

You're right, you've definitely seen Sergio Sendel with more muscle. I think it was in MEPS that he was looking particularly fine.

For your Men in Uniform post, how about the guy who plays Oscar in Refugio Harry something? He looked pretty good in La Espada y La Rosa even though he was the bad guy. The Zorro was naturally also worth looking at, but does a cape and mask count as a uniform? I vote yes.

Kelly

I've also thought about a period costume gallery which -- por supuesto -- would include shots from Zorro. For that I will go back as far as CS 1993.

Glad you're all enjoying this one!

Hi Guys
Just got back from the Pride Parade, and doing a quick check looking at UA's men, I find I did not, in fact, turn gay by virtue of proximity.
Sounds like I need to google "Solo Para Mujeres" and see what we're talking about.

R la O, you so funny.

Speaking of which, though, Gay-Husband-in-a-Towel from Amorcito can run around the street in front of my apartment anytime. Yow.

And speaking of gay husbands in towels, my husband and I are celebrating our #29 today!

¡¡Enhorabuena!! We'll have 28 next month. Sounds like you're a year ahead of me, as usual.

He looks pretty good dressed, too, Blue Lass.
Anita

WOW! I just got my eye patch off - cataract surgery - and what a nice way to 'see' again!! Thanks, UA.
Happy anniversary, R la O, and Blue. Mike and I will celebrate our 39th in November. Yup, we're old...

Is that a sarong Jorge Salinas is only barely wearing? Papacito!

Thanks so much for this, Urban A.

I remain faithful to Colunga as the hottest male ever. I agree there must be a better photo of him. I think Chapel Hill Fiddler has some on her lens for telenovelas.

But my second fave would be Rafael Navoa. I couldn't take more than a week of El Talismán, but I really liked A Corazón Abierto. I agree with the commenter above that Navoa is better portraying really intelligent men.

I too I prefer rather thin guys
the men like Julian Gil, Soto, Siller, Cimarro etc. are not pleasant to me at all.
here I vote for Marcello Cordoba

I vote for the symmetrical William Levy.

Note to the powers that be...you should consider making this the Home page instead of the Terasa cast. Teresa was one of my very favorites but the photos and content of this page have more lasting power. Just a suggestion. Love reading the recaps of my favorite telenovelas. I cry and laugh out loud. Gracias.

You guy's are great!
And you have so many ,,glasses" admiring you.

Such a waist!

About recent novelas de epoca. I just remembered La Pola (which came out of Colombia and shown on Telefutura), set in the early XIX century. It was quite intriguing, but it wasn't about Mexico, rather northern Nueva Espana, especially the part that became Colombia.
