Amorcito Corazón Discussion #44-53 July 9-13

PSA: Julia the Most Awesome has started a list of compound words. We will add to it as compounds arise. I took the liberty of adding words for "unibrow."

Now the episode. Things felt a little slow today, but Willy continues to make me laugh.
The big events in a nutshell:

  • Horty and Manuela are still clawing at each other. Horty wants Manuela to leave, and Manuela wants to stay. Horty thinks the threat of telling 'Nando about Manuela's involvement in Sofia's death will keep Manuela in line. Manuela thinks there is a flaw in that reasoning. Won't 'Nando get mad a Horty for withholding the truth about Sofia's death?
  • I missed a very important conversation between Ceci and Felipe. It seems Felipe has a history with Manuela/has always had the hots for her. What was the bit about the tattoo?
  • Cecilio gets Moncho and Juancho freed from jail. There were no fingerprints on the M&Ms, so it couldn't have been their property.
  • Babs continues to be a threat. She makes moves on Juancho, but he resists. I think he knows what's going on and is a little creeped out by it (I may be projecting.)
  • Sor Ernestina thinks Lucia should leave the habit for a while to get her feelings straight. Willy is over the moon because now he thinks he and Lucia can be together. Lucia doesn't think so. We finally get to see Lucía looking like a knockout. 'Nando asks Lucía to stay at his place while he's in Puerta Vallarta.
  • There's a dinner party from hell. Felipe and Zoe invite Isa, 'Nando and Cecilio over to dine...and so Ceci can meet Zoe. Ruh roh. It isn't pretty. Felipe is kept in the dark, but Zoe confesses to Isa that Ceci is her ángel and Ceci confesses to 'Nando that Zoe is his "estupida suicida." Ceci is going to back off. He even tells Felipe he wants to dissolve the partnership (?) and move away from the DF.
  • Guillermina makes up stories about robbery(?) She still needs money to keep the PI on the case. She decides to sell a ring and puts Héctor (her lover?) in charge of getting a good price. Ha ha, Héctor sells the ring to Jaibo's woman and then tells Guillermina he was robbed!
  • Did I hear correctly? Did Manuela actually tell Marifer that the asthma was all in her head?????  Seriously dangerous.
  • 'Nando overhears a phone conversation and flips his lid. (He really needs to chill.) Marisol enlists her little sisters' help in seeing  Juancho. While the family and Mine are away, Juancho comes to call and they start making out pretty heavily....and Isa walks in.
Other entertainments:
  • Sarita is not happy about the trip to Puerta Vallarta and is not talking to Isa....sort of.
  • Leo continues to feel like crap. His doctor is going to adjust his meds.
  • Reina and Jazmin have a conversation and get snippy with Willy and I think I missed a  William Levy joke. The two pregnant ladies are very sweet to Lucía and bring her clothes.
  • Padre Tio punches Willy and tells him to leave Lucia alone.
  • Suzy is crushing on Felipe.

Comments:
As always, fill in where needed. I appreciate all the help I get from everyone!

Sara, great recap, thanks.

Dear Aunt Manuela really doesn't like children from that look on her face.

Luci is a real knockout in her civilian clothes. Willy is going to have a lot of competition!

Willy looked great as a padre. The scene with he and the Mother Superior was really funny. She really has his number.

Rosemary Primera

Sara--
I barely caught the William Levy remark, but I think they were talking about Willy being to blame for Luci's having to put aside her habit when he walked in and thought he heard his name and wanted to know what they were saying about him. They covered quickly and said they were talking about William Levy, that guapote or guapasote.

My DVD erased everything before I finished watching the last 20 min., so I'm glad to have the recap.

I have another compound word--it's not very cute, but--anteojos = glasses or spectacles (lit. in front of the eyes).
Anita

Rosemary Primera: ITA about Manuela. She's not a kid person. The youngest two annoy her. I think she's ok with Marisnot because she considers herself a mentor. THat is, if teaching someone to be a rebellious teen makes you a mentor.

I loved that scene. There went "Padre Guillermo" having no clue what he was walking into. OH and I loved the English he sprinkled around this episode. "New Friend" when he saw Reina and Jazmin on the street and "What!?" when he figured out Sor Enestina had his number!

Anita: Anteojos is a great word! I added it to the list (and noticed "aguafiestas"/partypooper while I was there.)

Be glad you didn't catch the last 20 minutes. Watching teens getting it on kind of nauseates me.

The pregnant ladies were basically raving about how great Willy is, what a catch, and when he overheard them and asked if they were talking about him they said "no, we were talking about William Levy. He's a decent chap, unlike SOME people!" So basically they like Willy, but they're team Lucia.

Felipe said he and Manuela had an intense summer fling once and even got tattoos together. He later suggested that Cecilio take advantage of Manuela's en flagrante skillz to get over his suicida. Yeah, I think Zoe and Cecilio will eventually get back together.

Have I mentioned that I LOVE Ricardo Margaleff? That moment at the neighborhood party where he caught on to Barbwire's interest in Juancho, then she left him to dance by himself, was perfect. He has the best facial expressions.

I loved Zoe's interpretations of Sarita's comments to Isa.

1. Barbwire is AWESOME!! I will be stealing that!

2. I am going to start paying closer attention to Moncho. IMHO this cast is just really great.

3. I loved the Sarita "not talking" to Isa bit.

4. I don't know why, but I just LOVE Zoe. The actress for some reason reminds me of my sister. This is the first time I've seen Ricardo Fastlicht and I am really enjoying him.

5. Thank you so much for always being there to clear up my doubts. I'll try not to take advantage. It's just that with two hours a day I limit my rewinding. I just say to myself "move on and hope for the best."

Thank you Sara, you do a fantastic job with these two hour episodes. And thank you Rosemary Primera, Anita and Julia for clearing up some of the question marks.

I thought it was quite telling that Felipe and Manuela had an intense summer fling. I'm sure that information is going to be very significant somewhere down the line, but I have no idea where it's going.

I am heavily rooting for team Cecilio and Zoe. After today's episode it's very obvious that they have a special connection. I don't have anything against Felipe. He means well. I just think he is yet another unreliable chap, the kind Zoe wants to get away from.

ITA about Zoe & Ceci -- their scenes together were very poignant. And while I don't find him attractive, he is acting the part very well -- and he sure can wear clothes. Does anyone know if he dances or models? (One of the things I like about the urban TNs is how many guys can rock a business suit.)

A little more from yesterday:

- Sor E told Willy he was lucky she didn't have the power to excommunicate, because it would give her great pleasure to do so!

- Suzy told FFFFF she had joined an online dating service. Hope we get some good laughs out of that one. I like her.

- Avances show Manuela shoving a kitten up Marifer's nose to provoke an asthma attack and get Fernando back from P.V. She really is a piece of work.

Question: Why weren't Jaivo's prints on the M&M's? Or were they, and we just haven't gotten to that part yet? OR AM I BEING TOO LOGICAL AGAIN?

P.S. Sara, I agree about the teenage snogging scenes, which probably only appeal to other teenagers. I am now FFing through the entire Juancho/Marisnot storyline, as well as the Guillermina/PI bizness and Manuela's machinations. Bring back Doris! I miss Doris!

I miss Doris and Poncho, too!

Ricardo Fastlicht is not a typical heartthrob, it's true but he can really sell the compassionate, caring, dependable man role. And he is rockin' a great wardrobe, even the casual stuff. He looked great when he visited Juancho and Moncho in jail. The only complaint I have is he's very much a mama's boy...which might actually work for Zoe because she definitely has the need to mother.

I don't mind filling in info. Two hours is too much to pay close attention to all of it. I usually read your summaries before I watch the episode, so then I know where to pay attention and get the details.

No Doris and Poncho yesterday?! What can they be up to? All the other little plots seem to get resolved pretty quickly, so I'm wondering how long this fake pregnancy is going to last. Isn't it about time Isa or Zoe or Fernando ran into her at the drugstore buying tampons or something? Her only friend is Poncho so she'd have a hard time pretending they're for someone else.

Do we know why Fernando disapproves of Juancho so much? Is it specifically about him or just the idea of Marisnot having a novio? I don't want to watch the young folk grope each other, either, but I'm curious why Fernando gets so irate about Mariso-loud seeing him.

He's been anti-Juancho since the beginning... Since Acapulco. I think he is just being an overprotective quasi-controlling dad. Like Isa's dad.

I appreciate everyone's help on this. As you said Julia paying attention to details for two hours can numb the brain. Plus I still want to enjoy the show too. I am hoping my comprhension improves with this one. I am still vexed that I have such issues with this one but not so much with melodramas.

Sara--I meant to thank you for your postings for this tn. It is a lot of fun and it's generating a lot of good comments. You are much appreciated.

This is NOT a SPOILER, but some Poirot cells agitating in my head. I picked up two clues that I hope are not going to be what Poirot thinks they might be: When Manuela was spraying Sofia's perfume around the room she said something to the sleeping Fernando about how could he possibly be thinking of exchanging her for another woman. I wondered at the time if she weren't really Sofia.

Hortsie's revelations made me erase that notion--but Hortsie wasn't in the car. Next clue--Manuela telling Marifer how she and her twin were so alike they could pass for each other and no one would notice (the math and sports thing). And, as a secret little game just between the two of them MF can call her mamma. Hmmm.

Well, if it really is Sofia, why would she ever have given up her husband and family, whom she apparently adored, to cover up her twin sister's death. Why spend 7 or 8 years in Milan, unless she was in a coma for most of the time, or had amnesia.

Regardless, whether she's Sofia or Manuela she isn't going to make it easy for Fernando and Isa to become a pareja.
Anita

My little grey cells were wondering the same thing. Something about Manuela is very off. Well, more than one thing actually. But if she were Sofia would she deliberately try to give her kid an asthma attack? Unless Fernando was actually married to Manuela? Darn you Anita, now I am really confused. My head hurts; I'm going to stop thinking about it and just wait to see what happens. I wish Doris would come back and give Manuela a hellish time.

BTW, everybody--Looking for compound words in all the right places, but haven't found the list, yet. I'm sure Blue Lass made some huge contributions. I've read the first 8 episodes of El Tal, but nothing yet. I'll keep working on them.

In the meantime (too bad we can't add English compound words, haha).

Does Entrevista count? = Interview (Lit. In between + catch a glimse)

Pasamanos = bannister or handrail (Lit. move + hand)

If any of you want to get a belly-full of laughs from comment after comment on how bad a show El Talisman was (after 2 episodes), I invite you all to read the comments on eps. 3-5 of El Tal. (If you have time to read the recaps, enjoy some very fine writing.) How on earth we ever put up with it until the bitter end, I don't know. Martyrs to the cause, I guess.
Anita

Cap'n--Were you celebrating Pie Week? What kind of pie are you displaying? Did you make it?
Anita

I was wondering the same thing about Manuela/Sofia, but couldn't figure out what would motivate Sofia to do that. Have they always taken turns being the sweet one everyone loves and the wild party girl? Then one day they got in a fight and Manuela as Sofia went down the stairs and Sofia was stuck as Manuela and had to flee to avoid going to jail? Oy, I don't know. It would be quite a trick if they could even fool Fernando and take turns as his wife. But whoever we're seeing now, she really doesn't seem to have much genuine love and concern for the kids.

Anita, I wasn't celebrating Pie Week, but I did make the pie in my Special Pi Plate. It's always good for a laugh and it makes a super deep dish pie. This time was apricot since my tree went crazy and I had to battle the squirrels for the fruit. I had to pick them all at once or the squirrels will waste them by taking one bite and throwing the rest on the ground. Grrrr. The running of the squirrels has special meaning for me.

I don't see how it can be Sofía. Seems like Sofía was a devoted mother. Manuela, on the other hand, has a LOT of problems, some of them psychological. I'm sure she can confuse herself with her sister at times - thinking she's Sofía. But Manuela has got a mean, thoughtless streak a mile wide. Doesn't seem like Sofía did - hard to fake those instincts. Agreed that it would be unbelievable for Sofía to a) abandon her children years ago and b) deliberately provoke an asthma attack in her child.

Other than fingerprints, it would seem that Fernando is married to who it says on the marriage certificate, and who is named on the daughter's birth certificates.

Oh, that seems more likely...that Manuela's mental illness could involve such envy/identity with her sister that in some way she thinks she IS Sofia, at least at times. Or that they were so bonded that she feels entitled to whatever was Sofia's.

So I am (we are) watching two telenovelas with extreme, as in homicidal, sister envy. I guess it makes a fun story but it's not a terribly nice theme. My sister is my best friend, although I do recall when I was a teenager wishing she would drop off the face of the earth.

Sylvia, the squirrels used to do that with our loquats -- take one bite and then throw them on the ground. Drove me crazy!

Okay, okay -- what if...THERE ARE NO TWINS? In other words, Sofia & Manuela are the same person, with a split personality? That would presume, of course, that no one had ever seen them together, but...stranger things have happened in TN-land.

I think it's much more likely, though, that Manuela is going to gaslight Fernando by posing as Sofia and haunting him. I mean, this is supposed to be a comedy, right?

Hortensia would have to be in on that scheme - she gave birth to them after all. But she seems to blame Manuela for Sofía's death. Seems unlikely that someone would treat their schizo daughter as two different people all their lives even if Hortensia herself seems a bit unhinged.

Gah!! I hope beyond hope that it turns out to be as simple as Evil Twin kills Good Twin...but all the other possibilities are also very intriguing. Oh I would hate to think the lovely Sofia could be so cold to her children. :-(

But there is that snippet in the opening credits where I *swear* 'Nando is kissing Manuela... the mystery deepens.

Capítulos 46 and 47 (do I have the numbers right?)

Today is one of those days I wish I had the time to really give you an über-detailed recap. There was so much going on and so many emotions.

Anyhoo...

I'll try to be organized.

Manuela
This is one screwed up lady. Whether she is just Manuela or Sofia and Manuela or just Sofia...she needs professional help. She's a cutter and those scenes were very disturbing. Her purposely setting Marifer up for a life-threatening asthma attack is evil. Then the whole, creepy "you call me mommy" secret game made me shudder. Blech.
PS: I totally agree Cap'n I don't get the "my sister is the devil" type plots. I miss mine terribly despite our difference.

Isa and 'Nando
Whatevs. They got to Puerta Vallarta. They come back. Manuela accuses Isa of blaming her for the asthma attack. Yeah, it was true, but it worked: 'Nando got miffed at Isa. Isa apologized and they made up, but before the episode ended she was telling him how to raise Mariso-loud so there will probably be a fight tomorrow, too.

Sarita, Leo, G-mina triangle
G-mina is still trying to get money out of Leo with stupid "buy stuff for the place" stories. While going through his things, she finds the results of his medical tests and is now trying to kill him...with carnitas and tres leches cake. Leo tells Sarita he loves her and Sarita throws him out. Just like you can't recover all the pieces of a broken bowl, you can never recover trust.

Zoe, FFFFF, Ceci triangle
Zoe and FFFFF fuss about Zoe's compulsive straightening. Zoe complains about his leaving the toilet seat cover up. Zoe talks Ceci into staying, much to FFFFF's joy. I see cracks in Zoe's relationship with FFFFF. FFFFF looked pretty interested in the lady at the bar.

Barbwire, Juancho, Marisnot, Knuckles square
Barbwire was catty all episode. Kept Knuckles informed of all of Juancho and Marisnot's whereabouts so he could pop-up. Barbwire spilled kool-aid all over Marisnot "on accident." There is a tenuous truce, but I think Marisnot still needs to run like hell.

The Best Part of this Show: Willy and Lucia
Lucia and Tio Padre continue to tell Willy to back off. Willy serenades Lucia, delivers a baby, faints, and even connects all the dots: Marisnot dot to Horty Dot to Lucia dot. Lots of dots. He says ¡¿What?! a lot. Lucia also manages to get Beba to help them get a house for unwed mothers. (Did Beba buy the house?)

Don't miss
--The serenade (Here's a Pedro Infante version. The whistling makes me think this is maybe the version Willy sang along too. He also said something in praise of the "Pedrocito" as well.

--Felipe's quasi-Bollywood themed costume party.

--Reina's delivery.

--Tuqueque and Marilu's budding romance.

I will come back later with Vocabs. I picked up quite a bit today.

Oh! Anita, I have added your words to the list. I'm also wondering if I posted my list to a LQNPA thread. I know I brought up tweezers IRT Miguel. I'll try to search as well...

Sara, I've been *trying* to figure out who Manuela is kissing in the opening credits...I thought it was Poncho, but that. doesn't. make. any. sense.

I will check it out and make sure tonight!

Where the heck are Doris and Poncho? This show is taking a rather dark turn...

This post had a bunch of compound discussion in it. I'll go back and look and add to the spreadsheet when I get home.

AHA!!!

Toward the end of the thread is a list I posted.

Thanks for helping everyone! Julia, you really pointed me in the right direction!

Why doesn't Manuela kissing Poncho make any sense? The sands could shift that way eventually...and frankly neither of them seems all that particular.

Learned a new one today: quehaceres - tasks, chores, i.e. things to do.

I didn't see "robamaridos" on the compound words list.

I think we had "quitamaridos." And I remember "matasanos," coz I taught it to my students.

OMG, I just went back and re-read the compound words discussion from El Tal. We were rollin' that night. (Unfortunately, I started making them up halfway through and now I can't tell the difference.)

Where are we keeping the new list?

(Unfortunately, I started making them up halfway through and now I can't tell the difference.)
----
Hahaha! It sounds like a parlour game: spot the false compound.

Rereading old El Tal recaps and comment threads is about the best cure ever for a bad mood.

Language is fluid and ever-evolving, right? I think if it's descriptive and people would know what you meant, it's a word. Although maybe on the list we should color-code or something for "in the dictionary" vs. "our own brilliance".

I love the color code idea. "Our own brilliance"...we *are* a super smart crew!

Vocabs from today
dando y dando: show me the money; you have to pay first (said by G-mina's PI)
fulminante: sudden
en un dos por tres: in a flash
el chiquero: pen; pigsty
descarado(-a): shameless; brazen; cheeky; insolent
casa hogar: most of the online sources I found mainly defined it as an orphanage, but since it was used in reference to unwed mothers, I'm thinking it can also be shelter/home.
no tener un pelo de tonto to be nobody's fool. Padre Tio said it to Willy when Willy made up the story about why he was there.
abochornar: to embarrass (this can also be reflexive and means "to feel embarrassed") Lucia told Willy not to embarrass her.
dejar con ojos cuadrados: to amaze; to wow; to really impress someone
hacer a mala leche: to do something with bad intentions. Isa said "no quiero hacer a mala leche" when talking to Zoe about Manuela. I thought it meant more like I don't want to start trouble...or even I don't want to be a beech. See this
un derroche: profusion; abundance. Sofia tiene una derroche de virtudes. (Ironically this word can also mean "waste; squandering")

Good job, Sara; no, GREAT job, Sara. Are there going to be tests on these Spanish lessons? Abochornar is a new one for me. I checked up on it, it can also mean to blush, to overheat, and the reflexive--abochornarse de algo is to be ashamed of something as well as embarassed.

Cap'n--after tonight we can probably eliminate the Manuela-might-be-Sofia theory. That self-inflicted wound was gruesome to watch. The woman looks normal but is sick and dangerous. Notice she didn't bleed onto her pretty yellow top, either the first time or when she went back to the bathroom to squeeze out some more. Maybe we should rename her Manuela La Bloodletter or Manuela La Vampira or Manuela The Vamp for short.

I'll take two Dorises over one Manuela.

Fernando is turning into a bit of a thick-brained, short-sighted, dunderhead. When he and Minerva were raising the girls they did a pretty decent job.

ITA, Willy and Lucia were the most fun to watch tonight.

Although the Bollywood dance was cute, it didn't last long enough.

I got a kick out of Zoe and FFFF's exchange about what all men want--sex and maybe he should have gotten beds for all the rooms and FFFF said he hadn't thought about that, but it sounded like a good idea. I'm thinking he hasn't mended his ways, although he's telling himself he had. Then, sitting in the bar by himself when that sweet young thing started looking longingly at him, maybe he hadn't quite got the monogamous down pat yet.

I'm ok with Zoe and FFFF breaking up if Zoe and Ceci can make it together.
Anita

Holy Guacamole!! I just spent the last hour + reading just the two recaps and the comments for just the two links Sara & Julia provided. I'd already forgotten how much fun that dreck was!

Hope you will all take a peek soon.
Anita

For the compound word list, do we have tocadiscos, lavaplatos, and guardarropa?

So, where did the fun go? We seem to have lost almost all of our humorous elements, and everyone is now being menaced by someone. I'd like to trade in Mauricio for more of Cecilio's mother, please. And bring back La Mula Hortensia! I miss "her."

You are so right, Blue Lass. I hope Doris shows up today.

I had a hard time with the Maunela/cutting scene too. If it happens again, I'm just going to fast forward.

And I HATE that she is basically messing with Marifer's head!

PS: There will be no quizzes :-)

The cutting scene was horrible. I watched through a tiny slit between my fingers (because obviously that helps). Definitely perplexing how she didn't bleed onto her clothes. She is very disturbed. Also, did I hear Marilechuga say that Manuela dumped the kitten back on the street after it had served its catastrophic (heh) purpose? Horrible! Also, why didn't Manuela make those girls use seat belts in the car? She is the worst person to be taking care of them!

I like this new development for Lucia. I said before she should run a charity for young women in trouble. She doesn't need to be a nun to do it, either, so she could live the life of service she wants without crabby Madre Superiora on her case all the time.

I loved the Bollywood costume party! I agree; it didn't last long enough!

Julia--Manuela did indeed say she dumped the kitten back on the street "where it came from." I wish some Peta people would throw some red paint on her, right around her midrift and spoil her pretty yellow top. And this was *after* she said they would take the kitten to the vet.
Anita

I'm very glad I wasn't listening closely enough to catch the conversation about the fate of the kitten.

Lucia is a master of mixed messages. She keeps telling Willy to stay away from her, then she approaches him and hugs him? That really happened, right, not just in his imagination?

What was going on with Willy, anyway? He seemed abnormally tired after the basketball, when Lucia came up to him. And then after he dashed to the store, he seemed winded when he came back in the house.

Uh oh.

Julia, your comments are concerning. I hope Willy is ok. I was also confused by his behavior after the basketball game. I even rewound it a couple of times to make sure I didn't miss the reason why he was crying...'cause he did look like he was crying to me.

Well shoot, I just assumed Willy was pregnant but now I'm worried.

Let's hope it's nothing, just leftover fatigue from his illness in the jungle and sadness because Lucia insists she's not into him.

Capitulos 48-49
Quick poll:
Today's episode was

---meh
---yawn
---Aw, c'mon, Sara! It was great!

The action
(I really didn't take many notes today and this is mostly from memory...you know the drill, we're all in this together.)

--Knuckles shows up at the ice-cream parlor. Juancho has a jealous and an inferiority complex about money. He and Mariso-loud leave and argue. He gesticulates wildly and a passing 'Nando mistakes it for abuse. Big Blow Up ensues.

--Isa convinces 'Nando to cut Marisnot some slack. 'Nando calmly talks to Mariso-loud and agrees to give Juancho a chance.

--Willy and Lucia have a nice walk home. He sure can make her laugh. And yes, Lucia is giving mixed signals IMHO. Tio Padre has a serious talk with Lucia. He tells her that she can still serve God even if she isn't a nun. Maybe her destiny is to be a wife.

--Felipe makes nice with the lady at the bar. Ceci walks in and says "I thought you were going to be faithful this time." Funny misunderstanding and barlady leaves fast. Felipe and Ceci drink. Felipe ends up three sheets to the wind and quasi-complains about Zoe. (In fairness, Zoe complained to Isa about Felipe.) There is serious trouble in paradise. The next day when Zoe calls a hungover Felipe, he lies about being sick and even drags Ceci into the lie.

--Manuela continues to play mind games with the girls. Today it was mainly with Mariso-loud. She tells the girl that she is the only one she can trust. Isa in the enemy.

--Manuela plans a surprise b'day dinner for Beba. Isa, the girls, 'Nando, Zoe, Ceci and Felipe are invited. Felipe was too excited IMHO.

--Tuqueque's health is getting worse. It looks like now he's going to need dialysis and even a transplant. This will cost a pretty penny. Obligatory conversation about family members being great candidates for organ donation.

--Willy went to see his boss about money and I got interrupted. Sorry.

--Willy goes to Beba's about money, but she mentions her birthday and he realizes he would be a true cad to ask for money. Beba tricks him into her bedroom and then Manuela arrives home. We get treated to Willy hiding and trying to avoid guests. I think this was supposed to be a lighthearted after yesterday's dark-fest but I was "meh" about it. Willy would have looked nice in the duds if his hair hadn't looked so skanky.

--Zoe and Isa both are suspicious of Manuela. Zoe and Manuela were catty...which Felipe ate right up. I'm over Felipe and Zoe. He's not good enough for her. Team Zoe/Cecilo!

--'Nando told Marisol she could invite Juancho to the dinner. She left a message with Barbwire... who promptly called Kuckles. Juancho by chance called Marisol, so she invites him personally and tells him to come after his job interview. Knuckles arrives at the dinner. 'Nando apologizes to him about their previous encounter. ('Nando seems ok with him now that he knows Knuckles is part of a respectable family.)

Left over fatigue sounds plausible.

Cap'n: hmm... Fainting *is* the usual symptom of pregnancy...

I wrote the following in my notes today:

"Why is no one EVER in cell range?"

Aren't they in the DF?? I get it for LQNPA and Abismo, but here?

Does anyone know more about cell phones in the DF? Did this happen a lot on UFCS?

Being out of range wasn't usually a problem on UFCS, but people would sometimes turn their phones off when they didn't want to be interrupted and then the family would have a cow that they hadn't answered. Ana when she was in the recording studio, for example. Or sometimes the battery would be dead. Both of those are realistic situations to me which would explain why someone didn't get an important call. Better than always pretending people don't have cell phones or can't get coverage in the city.

We did get a dead battery situation when Zoe called Ceci.

I guess watching episodes so close to each other makes certain things stand out. An hour at a time these "out of range" situations might be further apart, but when you see it 3 times a week you start to wonder.

I didn't watch it all, but I kind of miss UFCS.

We also got a phone-dropped-in-puddle when Juancho called Marisol and Knuckles came along and mouth-breathed on her. So at least they're not just pretending there aren't phones like some shows ahemFuegoahem.

Oo! Oo! Oo! Did "doctor tell family patient could die"??? Not that I want Tuqueque to die, obviously. I just want the doctor to say he COULD.

I didn't listen closely enough :-( I'm sorry.

Surely it is understood the doctor implied that? I mean talk of dialysis and organ transplant can't be good.

Hubs and I will be out of town this afternoon and Friday. I will catch up and post some stuff this weekend, but feel free to discuss.

Figures hub would want to go out of town when good stuff is happening on Abismo and LQNPA. I suspect today and Friday will be action packed on Amorcito, too.

Oh, I forgot to mention yesterday that Manuela suggested a costume contest yesterday. Willy got to watch her change while he was hiding under the bed.

The doctor did NOT say Tuqueque could die. I was listening for it. Of course I don't want him to die, I just knew someone would need it to be said for Bingo. Don't despair, though, his situation may well get more dire before one of the Pinzón family gives him a kidney.

Manuela is such a piece of work. The KIDS bring out some costumes, so she says "let's have a sexiest costume contest!" and goes to change even though no one else is into it? Is she going to wear that grass skirt with nothing but skivvies under? If she even wears skivvies, which isn't a given?

I'm done with Felipe for Zoe also. At least this way it's easier for Zoe to move on with Cecilio; if Felipe were being more honorable she'd probably feel more terrible about it. I don't think they'll last much longer.

Sara--I had rompecabezas over on Refugio. I know it's a dup here, but while scanning the dict. I ran across one we would never be able to figure out--ROMPECOCHES. It's not what you would think. It's Everlasting Prunella. Must be a botanical, no?

Do we have malentendido? A misunderstanding.

Just remembered another compound word: rascacielos, m. just like in English, skyscraper.

Lo del jueves:

The schtick of Willy being trapped in Beba's house goes on way too long. The only good part of the party was the five seconds or so of Fernando dancing. Also, FFFFF told I, Z, and C the story of some lawyer guy who had a mad crush on Sofia, but she was already happily dating Fernando, and Manuela pretended to be Sofia and fooled the poor guy for a week, nasty trick.

So Willy ends up locked in a closet until late at night, and his phone is dead (again with the dying phones) so Lucia is stood up at the cafe. The next day he tells her he had flat tires and she gets over it. Lucia lands herself another starving pregnant girl who's been thrown out of the house, and Padre Tio thinks it's getting out of hand.

The Ladies in Red stick up their noses at the idea of helping irresponsible poor pregnant ladies, but when Beba meets the craft room squatters and Reina wants her to be her baby's godmother, she decides to fund the casa hogar herself.

Beba's son Jorge rents the office right above the constructora and NEEDS Isa to help him with the furnishing. He coerces her into going out to dinner and keeps her out way late smarmily impressing her with stories of his exotic travels. Seems he was in Egypt for the revolution, knows all the Stans, and likes Myanmar best of all the far east countries. He would. Isa finds him fascinating enough to ignore how he's obviously taken with her and bullying her in the most genteel way.

Barbwire continues to plant that mala hierba Knuckles everywhere to interfere with Marisolongfarewell and Juancho. Juancho is having trouble finding a job, but the constructora's messenger has just quit. What a coincidence.

Manuela wants to use her inheritance, which Horty has been managing, to open her own art gallery. Snorty thinks it's too risky. Manuela tries to booty call FFFFF, but he's busy getting frisky with Zoe, so she takes Cecilio instead as a consolation prize.

Juancho gets in a billiard hall brawl with Jaibo, and Willy G joins in. Lucia catches the end, just in time to see Willy G knocked out. He's okay, though. He has agreed not to pressure Lucia, so he limits himself to acting charming.

Doris has reappeared, suddenly with a protuberant tummy. Fernando seems almost as disbelieving at her rate of expansion as I am.

Bless you, Julia!

Hooray! Doris returns!

So I assume Jorge is the next obstacle for Nando and Isa?

Oh, also: Manuela made up with Snorty and plans to move back in with her.

Beba's mad at Snorty because she knows she's after Willy.

Jorge is staying with Beba while his apartment is renovated.

Beba gave Willy a check for Tuqueque's medical expenses (although she didn't even let him tell her what it was for; didn't care).

Stuff with Isa's parents that I don't care about.

Sweet worrywart Marilechuga did her darndest to keep Juancho from seeing Marisol and Knuckles together, but her scheme was thwarted. So of course Juancho is mad and doesn't trust Marisol again, and Marisol was only with him because she desperately needed some school supply from the store and Minerva didn't want her to go out alone so late, and Knuckles JUST HAPPENED to show up (thanks to a call from Barbarian). Ugh.

Avances: Fernando and Isabel try again to get en flagrante. What will interrupt them this time?

Jorge's definitely being set up as the next thing to come between Fern and Isa. Fernando looked rather annoyed when Jorge brought Isa home really late from their business dinner. And he doesn't even know that Jorge told the waiter Isa was his novia! And then Isa told him Jorge was the most interesting man in the world! (I feel like Jorge should be schilling booze in smarmy ads.)

Jorge's so insufferable, though. I think he has bully tendencies. He'll push things too far, then when Isa objects, get on her case for not being able to take a joke or being too sensitive. So far he's fairly harmless, but I see that vibe being set up.

Wow! Sounds like a lot is going on!

Barbarian=hilarious!

I hope the Beba/Willy thing ends up ok in the end. She really has or bad for him and I feel like tho he used her in the past he's starting to see the errors of his ways. Beba has a big heart. I don't want to see it broken.

I'm home and flew through Thursday's episode (thanks for the FF heads up, Julia.)

Barbarian is a beech. I do not like her.

I am not pleased that Manuela and Ceci might be hooked up for a bit.

And I agree with you about Jorge. No good can come from him.

Oh!! Daniel Arenas does a great castellano accent. Muy sexy, también.

The only good that could possibly come from Jorge is if he and Isa kiss, then I get a bingo square. Kissing him would obviously give her cooties and she would land in the hospital, so then I would have Bingo!

True. I would get "protagonista kisses someone other than galán" as well.

Is a diagonal Bingo allowed? I'm one square away from a diagonal one.

Diagonal bingo is allowed! Sadly, Isa has to get *engaged* to Whatzit to do me any good...but I'm very close in several directions.

OT: Do any of you subscribe to Hulu+? I'm considering it because I would really like to watch a show with GOOD Spanish CCs...but I just don't know.

Lo del viernes (In the order in which I remembered it, not necessarily the same order it aired.)

--Isa and 'Nando were interuptus in flagrante...again. Isa gets abandoned in the closet because Minerva ate too much and Mariso-drunk drank too much. While trapped in the closet, she over hears little Marifer being a mini-snot about dad's girlfriend.

--Isa and 'Nando fight through most of the episode but make up by the end. Are we surprised?

--G-meana now knows Leo's intention to put pretty much everything in Sarita and Isa's name. They fight. He goes to Sarita and asks her to guard A BOX. He ends up overeating in a hotel and is found the next morning moaning and groaning. He gives the maid G-meana's number. She comes to his rescue. The doc writes a prescription. G-mean coos and frets. Leo groans louder.

--Juancho is going to end up being a messenger in the Lobo firm. Bet on it.

--Lucia tells Willy she is in love with him and agrees to be his pre-novia and to let him give her pre-besitos. Willy hops they get pre-married and have pre-children. (This is not snark. He actually said that stuff and it was darling and I heart Willy.)

--Lucia and Beba gush with each other over their "amors". Poor Beba thinks she and her amor are going to get married. Beba visits Willy's house, but he's not home. She introduces herself to Lala as her "nuera" and swears to be forty. Lala thinks she's forty en each foot (hahaha!) and a contemporary of Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete.

--Willy finds out about the visit from his supuesta "prometida" and thinks it's Horty. He confronts her and says he's a changed man. She thinks he'll always be a gigolo.

--Manuela wants to open her own art gallery and wants mom to give her her inheritance. Both 'Nando and Horty think she should work a little and gain some experience.

--Horty visits 'Nando at the office and asks him to hire Manuela. Later, Isa talks him out of hiring her, but Horty thinks it's a done deal. Manuela agrees to this plan.

Miscellany
--Isa sees Rubén and mamá (of toro to cajones and maldición fame.)

--Jorge continues to give off an oily, slimy vibe. He's still against Beba's relationship with Willy.

--Tuqueque is still in the hospital.

Avances
--Manuela does not get the job

Vocabulario
hacer mal tercio: to be a third wheel.
tragón/tragona: glutton
hacer bolas: (from the UFCS list) to make a mess...used when 'Nando was trying to fix his "abandoned you in the closet" mess with Isa.

Oh, and Barbwire is, well....Barbwire.

Forgot:
pico de cera: not saying a word

Poor Beba. Where did she get the idea she and Willy are engaged? I'm starting to worry she's getting a little senile. I hope not, because her son is the worst. His behavior to her and every other woman he interacts with is manipulative and controlling. Why does she let him get away with this crap?

It's just as well the en flagrante was interrupted. Not exactly the most charming seduction ever. "Just stay calm." "No matter what, remember that I love you." Were they planning to make love or go into battle? Although with them, I suppose there isn't much difference.

Did we just have two PSAs about gluttony in one episode?

Poor Beba. Where did she get the idea she and Willy are engaged?
----
Ok. So I *didn't* FF through anything important when I flew threw Thursday's episode. I kinda scratched my head at that, too.

I'm afraid that when Lucia and Beba finally compare notes the casa hogar project may be put on hold for a while. I worry what not having that project will do to Willy and Lucia's relationship (In my head it makes sense.)

I know I am in the minority, but I kind of enjoy the Leo Sarita storyline. Maybe it's her name, but I like Sarita ;-)

Which reminds me, I thought it was funny when 'Nando came to visit and Isa stood right there and told Sarita to say she wasn't there and 'Nando was like "I see her right there" and Sarita says "He says he sees you."

Also:
Dear Writers,
Stop making people have to hide so much. You are overdoing it.

Love,
Me
PS: MORE DORIS!

Hey Lovely Sarita- I am afraid that I have fallen WAY behind in watching the show and even reading your wonderful recap. I am almost done watching Friday's episodes. I think I'm going to have to give up on trying to watch the past episodes and just clear them out of the dvr, unless there is an episode that you say I must see.

Willy and Lucia are adorable. I loved them this episode and all the pre-novios stuff.

I kept wondering why Beba thinks she and Willy are getting married, but I see from the last few comments that this isn't totally clear. Can we find an available older galan for her?

I feel the same way, Vivi. I want Beba happy in the end.

IMHO there is no one "must see" episode. If others out there disagree, please let speak up! Don't let Vivi miss any must sees :-)

I guess Willy is "must see", but I suspect there will be plenty of him. ;-)

Does this TN seem a little "heavy" for an afternoon slot?? Not having a lot of TNs under my belt and not really understanding Looneyvision's programming all that well, I just thought I'd ask you.

We've had
Toros to the cajones
Open and pretty frank talk about Isa's virginity
Drugs
Underage drinking
Cutting
Seriously heavy (and kind of icky) teen snogging.

Don't forget prostitution! I've watched a few other afternoon novelas and they were about the same. I don't think Uni picks time slots by age appropriateness. They only care if there is extreme vulgarity or anything even approaching realistic sex scenes (or, you know, buttocks on some women wearing tanga swimwear, but not others, or dog excrement) and then they just bleep or pixilate or chop bits out.

I think you're right that the casa hogar project is going to fall apart for awhile, and Lucia won't know what to do with herself or how to help people again, and feeling unstable will throw a wrench in her pre-noviazgo with Willy G.

Maybe Beba would be happy with Leopoldo, if he doesn't eat himself to death?

Aww.... I'm kinda rooting for Sarita and Leo.

Your buttocks comment gave me TdA LindaHo flashbacks. Lol.

Oh yes, Linda's backside. Yet the censors felt the need to blur the breasts of those non realistic looking paintings in the villain's house.

Oh I had forgotten all about that. I want to say it was blurred in the DVD, too.

Another question I've been meaning to ask since Friday:
We've had two instances with Marsol and substance abuse (albeit she had no idea what Knuckles was giving her.) Does anyone think this will become a significant plot?

I wonder how they decide which buttocks to blur. I remember in HQEDNS, there was a pool scene in which a number of ladies were wearing VERY skimpy swimwear, and some of the heinies were blurred and others not. In the same scene. ?.

I think the substance abuse will definitely be an issue. In a show with a heavy teen representation, you've got to get these PSAs in, of course. Did Marisolamebrained ever even realize Knuckles drugged her with something that wasn't just Advil that one time? He is BAD news.

Heh heh. You said heinies. (insert juvenile giggles here.)

Do I need to start a spreadsheet of all your awesome nicknames? Marisolamebrained is so funny!

Ok. So the teen PSA's so far are:

--Isa talks to Marisol about going all the way with Juancho and being their for her.

--Don't take headache meds given to you be unattractive friends of the family.

Yeah, what did happen with that? Because she kind went WHEE!!! and we didn't have a "coming down" scene or even an acknowledgement in the form of "what *was* that stuff??"

We're also getting "don't pretend to be someone you're not" as a PSA, although Barbell hasn't really learned that lesson yet.

And probably also: If your dad is really hot, your friends will probably call him over for any reason, including to rat you out when you've been drinking.

*spews water out nose*

Barbell!

Hot Dad!

I feel so unworthy in your witty presence. LOL

Jijí. I want to see the Heinie Algorithm. "If > 20% of back view is cheeks = BLUR."

What's funny is that the blurring just makes people stare at those things more. Would anyone have noticed the artwork in the villain's house, if not for the distracting blurring?

I wonder how many times people will have to hide in closets or bathrooms or under beds or behind curtains in this show. It's getting ridiculous.

I wonder why Fernando and Isa didn't head back to the conference after Marifer was okay. Wasn't it supposed to last a week? Or maybe I imagined that. But still. They should make up another conference. Or just make sure Lucia is in charge of the kids, tell everyone they're going to Acapulco (in case anyone tries to follow them to be annoying), then go to Mérida.

Blue Lass- that hiney algorithm is priceless. And yes Julia, blurring justness me notice the offending visual even more.

I was just wondering today how long it was going to take for Isa and 'Nando to do the horizontal mambo.

I echo your sentiments about the hiding in baños and closets. ¡Basta!

PS: Do any of you ladies have any inside info about what will replace Corazon Apasionado? They've announced Ultimas Semanas with no Muy Prontos for anything else...which makes my paranoid hiney worry that they are going to do 3 hours of AC.

Surely they wouldn't...right?! Even Uni wouldn't be THAT evil.

Ultimas Semanas is usually announced starting about six weeks before the end of a long show, and sometimes they don't decide on a new one until a few weeks later, so there's still hope, I think.

Whew. Ok. I was just thinking about when they re-ran LFMB. weren't those three hours?

Uni's schedule shows CA ending the 27th, but their listings online currently only go through the 29th, so I guess we don't get to find out yet what happens the next Monday.

I hope they don't go to 3 hours while I'm on vacation. My DVR will run out of capacity. I'm still debating whether I can bear to delete the entire 4th season of Parks & Recreation, which is still on there, BEFORE the DVDs are released in September. I just finally deleted the finale of El Tal last night after watching the Beltbuckle melt down a few more times.

Whew! I just saw a Muy Pronto for Sortilegio!

Sortilegio, hmm...I may have to record it just to see some of those steamy love scenes again. Of course, they will probably censor it even more for an afternoon audience.

Corazon Apasionado is nearly over already? It seems like it just started.

Sortilegio, eh? The summer is heating up! I may have to watch parts of that again, also. I mean, not JUST for the parts. Whatever.

They reran LFMB for two hours per day.
