Abismo de pasión #83 7/6/12: A Tale of Two (Very Different) Family Reunions

Alternate Titles

Maldita Carmina!
Damien and Elisa Return Home

Casa de Castanon Foyer “Elisa is your daughter!”  Don Lucio hands the DNA documentation to his stunned friend.  Agosto takes the paper, and after reviewing it, calmly walks over to his wife.  Maybe it was the faux calmness in his manner or his soothing voice that prompted her to stand there like an idiot.   Some fools do not sense danger.  She irrationally tries to justify the deception to her husband.  Carmina did it to defend their love; she didn’t want to lose him.  She goes on to say that she told him that Elisa wasn’t his so that he would forget Estefania.  She mentions how she got someone in Meridia to falsify the DNA results.  Agosto intently listens to her “reasoning” and then promptly bitch slaps her.  At first I thought we were dealing with a standard pimp slap, but after gleefully reviewing the scene several times and at several different angles, the judges determined that what had occurred was indeed the bitch slap method.  It was magnificent!  They gave him 9 out of 10 points.  Anyways, Lucio and Padre, quickly restrain the now ballistic Agosto in order to keep him from killing his wife.  Lucio tells Agosto to calm down and implores him not to be violent.  Things are not solved this way!  (Yeah, but it must have felt great to have smacked the hell out of her.  I’ve been dying to do it since episode 25 when I first started recapping this show).   Agosto tells Carmina to get the hell out of his house.  Unfortunately, the men don’t allow him to touch her.  He would have received a perfect score if he had slapped her again.  Agosto vacates the area, but before leaving, he tells her that she better be gone by tomorrow.  She begs him not to put her out because she loves him and has nowhere else to go.  She “ugly cries” as she turns to the camera.  Don Lucio follows Agosto.  No one feels sorry for her, not even the priest.  Father Lupe picks up the discarded DNA paper and walks over to Carmina and rubs it in some more.  Carmina tells him to leave her in peace.  Lupe tells her that he won’t leave her alone until she tells the truth and nothing but the truth.  One day the truth will be known and may God forgive you, says Lupe.
Casa de Castanon-Home Office Agosto has calmed down and now feels like crap (he should). Tears are flowing.  Good!  Don Lucio is pouring extra salt on Agosto’s wounds (as he should).  He chides Agosto for being a jerk to Elisa based on a lie from Carmina.  Agosto says he’s depressed because he’s treated Elisa like a red-headed step child and mentally abused her for most of her life.  Don Lucio agrees with Agosto that he has not been “Dad of the Years”.   Elisa is my child.  Maldita Carmina!  Lucio tells him to make amends with Elisa even if it means that he has to accept Damien as a son-in-law.  Lucio says that Elisa will forgive him and when Agosto works up the courage to apologize, Agosto knows where she’s staying.  Agosto says that he can’t forgive himself (and he shouldn’t).

Casa de Don Lucio-Paloma is visiting Elisa, who is still wearing that little stupid halo braid.  Paloma tells Elisa that she and Damien being siblings is the dumbest thing that she has ever heard of in her entire life.  Now Paloma understands why Elisa moved out of Agosto’s house.  Paloma tells Elisa about the argument that she had with Gael.  She mentions that Gael did not tell her about Damien and Elisa being siblings.  Elisa asks why they fought.  Paloma explains that she saw Gael hugging Elisa and jumped to the wrong conclusions.  She knows that Gael still loves Elisa and now that Damien and Elisa are siblings, she’s afraid that Gael will dump her to be with Elisa.  Elisa assures Paloma that she only thinks of Gael like a brother.  There will never be anything more between them.  Paloma tells Elisa that she will put those thoughts out of her head.  Elisa uses this opportunity to make herself the subject of the conversation.  Oh well, Paloma has come to expect this by now.  They sit on the couch.  Elisa tells Paloma that she has always thought of Gael as her brother and Damien as her lover.  She is sad that Damien is actually her brother.  While Elisa tells her that Damien is the love of her life for always, Paloma dutifully strokes Elisa’s hair and holds her friend’s hand.

Casa de Castanon-Home Office-Agosto is sitting at his desk rubbing his temples when Carmina IMUSTHAVEADEATHWISH Castanon strolls in.  What do you want?  She says that she wants to talk to him.  He tells her that they have nothing to discuss, but she closes the door (this is so there will be no witnesses to her murder at the hands of her irate husband) and walks further into the room.  She wants to explain why she falsified the DNA tests and led him to believe that Elisa is not his daughter.  She wanted him to forget his wife.  Agosto slams his hand on the table and starts yelling.  Side note:  when Agosto gets angry, he reminds me of a chained vicious foaming, barking and growling dog.   It’s unnerving.   Not only did she make him believe it, but she kept the lie going for years.  She also brought it up at every possible opportunity.  She falsified the test results and made him hate his own daughter.  Carmina blames Elisa for the death of their son. She says it was crib death?  She wanted to make Elisa pay.  Agosto defends his daughter (FINALLY!).  Carmina begs Agosto to forgive her.  She sinks to the floor and conveniently puts her face in his crotch.  At that point, Little Agosto wanted to forgive her, but fortunately, Angry Agosto was thinking with his upper brain and refused.  She continues to beg forgiveness.  He tells her that she has to move out so that he an Elisa can start their new life.

Hacienda Arango-Damien is unpacking his bags while Florencia hovers around him like a puppy dog.  She says that she couldn’t believe it when Alfonsina said that he’d move back in.  May I state that Damien is looking mighty dapper in his clingy white shirt?  Damien tells her that he heard that Guido is Up the River; but he can’t believe that Guido was capable of doing something like that. Florencia says that she can’t believe it either, but there’s a mountain of evidence against him.  She asks to change the subject.  Damien hangs his clothes in the closet, but strikes a pose for the camera so that we can enjoy his handsomeness.  The pause delays his unpacking, so Florencia removes some of his stuff from the suitcase and tries helping him put things away.  Damien protests.  He says that the wants to be alone; he’s got a lot of things on his mind.  She’s not taking the direct hint.  She asks if she still has a chance with him.  Is she one of the things on his mind?  He says that he has to think about them reuniting and he’ll let her know the outcome tomorrow.  This desperate chick even moves in for a kiss; he doesn’t return the smooch.  Between Florencia and Paloma, I am going to vomit.  A LOT.

Casa de Mickey and Mallory-Ingrid is leaving the house for the evening.  She doesn’t notice Horacio, who is standing in the shadows.  As soon as she is safely away, Horacio rushes towards the front door.  Hopefully, none of the neighbors will notice a complete stranger who is hurrying towards the front of a house (Mrs. Kravitz lives on the other side of town, so he should be safe).  After arriving at the door, Horacio removes a knife from his pocket, and turns back towards the front yard, displaying the knife that twinkles in the moonlight.  This is so that anyone watching will be able to easily identify him to the police (if La Ermita had a police force).  He picks the lock and lets himself in.  Like all people on covert missions, he turns on theoverhead lights instead of using something inconvenient, like a stupid flashlight.   He pauses, looks around and then walks over to a drawer and removes a folder; it wasn’t what he needed, so he returns it to its place.  Commercial.

Casa de Arango-Alfonsina wants to know where Braulio is going.  She reminds him that the staff members are not allowed into the bedrooms.  Braulio explains that he’s heard about the whole sibling thing and wanted to be supportive to Damien.  Alfonsina tells Braulio that she is worried about her son.  Damien needs a good friend right now, but he won’t let her be his friend.  She wants Braulio to take Damien out and show him a good time.  She butters him up by telling him that he is a good father to Vincente.  He thanks her for her confidence in him.  Sucker!

Casa de Arango (Damien’s Bedroom)-Poor cutie pie is holding his amulet like a rosary and thinking of Elisa (which is kind of disturbing because he still believes that Elisa is his sister.  Shouldn’t he been gargling or something?)  He sighs deeply and places it on his nightstand.  Braulio knocks on the door.  Come in.  Braulio invites Damien to go toss some beers back at the cantina.  At first Damien refuses, but Braulio talks him into it.

Church-Gael is just about to enter the courtyard, when Ingrid approaches him.  He asks her if she has information about Kenia.  No, I don’t, but can I have some money?  Gael wants to know why she can’t get some cash from Gabino.  Isn’t Gabino supporting her?  He must not know that Gabino is a pimp for life and pimps don’t give hos money.  He would know this if he listened to Rap music.  Geez.   She tells him that Gabino took all of her money.  She needs the money because she doesn’t want to work the stroll anymore; she wants to leave Gabino.  Gael says that he can’t believe Gabby stole her money (Again, this is what pimps do!)  She clarifies her statement by saying that Gabby is “saving it” for her.  She can’t take it anymore and wants to leave.  He tells her to stop by tomorrow around the same time and he will give her a couple of bucks.  She asks him to bring the money to her and not to tell Father Lupe.  Gael agrees.

Casa de Mickey and Mallory-Horacio is now in the bedroom with the lights on.  He is loudly ransacking the drawers.  Eureka!  He found the tickets!  He shoves them in his shirt under his armpit and turns out the bedroom light.  Right as he’s about to leave, Gabino walks in and calmly asks Horacio what he’s doing there.  They stare each other down.

Casa de Don Lucio-Agosto is in the living room waiting to speak to Elisa.  She doesn’t look happy when she sees him.  She wants to know why he’s come.  He wants her to come home.  Luke, it turns out that I am your father after all.  She tears up and tells him that she doesn’t understand.  Remember yesterday, when I told you that you weren’t mine.  I was mistaken.  You’re my kid; you’re my blood.  For years, your crazy aunt Carmina has told me that you weren’t mine and I stupidly believed her.  Elisa is confused and starts to cry.   He asks her to forgive him and asks for an opportunity to make it up to her.  He looks so sincere this time.  She grabs him and hugs him.  My little princess, he whispers in her ear.  He tells her that he adores her.  This scene is so sweet.  I almost teared-up!  (OK, I lied.  I actually did get misty because she finally got her daddy back).  Thank goodness for the commercial!

Casa de Don Lucio-We are back from the commercial and they are still holding one another.  I may not be able to continue with the recap.  This is so sappy, but cute.  Finally, they break apart and she asks about the DNA test.  He lowers his head and tells her that Carmina falsified the results.  He tells her that Lucio has the true test results if she would like to see them.  No, I know in my heart that you are my father.  She wants to know how he convinced Carmina to tell the truth.  He tells her that Father Lupe forced her to do it.  They hold hands and he tells her that the most important thing is that they start their new life.  He wants Delores to pack her bags so that they can come home.  They kiss and hug each other some more.  She is so happy and this is so sweet.  She hurries off.

Casa de Mickey and Mallory-Um Gabino is not so calm anymore.  Answer me!  What the hell are you doing in my house?  He pimp slaps Horacio in the head.  Horacio lies and tells Gabby that he was looking for him.  The door was opened, so he just walked in.  Gabby doesn’t believe it.  Nobody knows where I live.  He wants to know who told him.  Horacio says a worker told him.  Gabino is so hot when he’s angry (and when he’s happy and when he’s sad).  Horacio backs away from him.  Gabino grabs Horacio by the back of his neck and slams his face into the table.  Who sent you to my house?   He slams his face into the table again.  He threatens to break Horacio’s bones one by one.   Horacio tells Gabino that Carmina sent him.   Gabino calls him a traitor and demands to know why she sent him.  Horacio frees himself and tells Gabby that Carmina sent him for the airplane tickets.  Horacio gives Gabby the tickets and wants to know what Gabby is going to do with him.  Gabby kicks Horacio out of his house and tells him next time things will be different.

Church-Gael is in the bedroom.  He checks the drawers and the closet and determines that Damien has moved out.  Father Lupe comes in.  Gael wants to know where Damien went.  Lupe tells Gael that Damien when home, but also mentions that Damien and Elisa are not brother and sister.  Gael asks, “Are we sure this time? Are all of our Ts crossed and our Is dotted?”  Yeah, third time’s the charm, says Padre.  We are almost absolutely positive (I think) that Damien and Elisa are not related.  Padre asks Gael if he is going to see Paloma tonight.  Gael doesn’t know.  Paloma is a girl of good qualities and she’s cute.  What is your problem?  Gael says that he’s physically attracted to Paloma; but he’s not in love with her.  Padre doesn’t want to hear all of the details of the physical attraction.  Gael thinks that there should be love and lust in a relationship.  He tells Lupe that she holds himself back with her and that’s not fair.

Casa de Castanon-Carmina is pacing in the foyer; the phone rings.  Carmina rushes to answer it.  It’s Gabby, calling from a pay phone.  He tells Carmina that her plot failed; she’s not getting the tickets.  She tells him that he has to vacate her house.  She’s been given the big boot, so she has to evict them.  He tells her that their not leaving and hangs up on her.

Cantina-Damien is blasted out of his mind and tossing back triple shots of Tequila.  He’s crying (literally) about Elisa.  He says that it’s best that he and Elisa don’t’ see each other for a while.  Braulio tells him that it will be hard to forget Elisa.  Damien says that he can’t have her near him because he will violate her.  Apparently, she has great lips (Dude, you’re talking about your faux sister! Snap out of it!)  He continues to talk about her body (I know that you don’t know that she’s not your sister, but this is gross!) and how when he holds her, he wants to make her his (again, that is the polite way for saying that he wants to jump/deflower her).  He tells Braulio, that Elisa is the only woman that he will ever love!  She’s the only woman that he’s wanted most in his life.  Braulio contradicts himself (see above) and tells him to find another woman and forget about Elisa.  Damien doesn’t think another woman will do the job.  Braulio basically tells him that there are other fish in the sea.  Damien reminds Braulio that although he is legally married to Tonia; his heart, body, soul and loins long for Lolita.  Tonia hasn’t made you forget a thing, says Damien.  Braulio does not respond, but downs a triple shot as well.

Casa de Arango-Agosto, Dolores and Elisa enter the house.  Dolores is thrilled to be back.  Horacio brings in the boxes.  Carmina comes out of the office; she doesn’t look happy about Elisa being there.  Agosto sees his wife and tells her that he still expects her to be gone in the morning.  The two women exchange stink eyes.

Witch Mountain-Who knew?  Ramona has a hobby.  She is in the kitchen beading shells by candlelight, when Paloma walks in.  Have you spoken with Gael yet?  No.  Paloma says that Gael is still mad at her and that he probably won’t come.  Ramona wants to know why he’s mad, but Paloma doesn’t want to talk about it.  Ramona mentions that she saw Elisa at the cemetery.  Paloma tells Ramona that Elisa is still sad for Damien and begins to tell her about the DNA test, but Gael knocks on the door.  He greets Ramona and asks to speak with Paloma alone.  The two go outside.  Paloma apologizes for how she reacted to the hug between he and Elisa; she assures him that it will not happen again.  She tells him that Elisa was completely right when she told Paloma to get some self-confidence.  Paloma has no reason not to trust Gael.  At that moment, Gael tells Paloma that he wants to break up.  He doesn’t feel the same for her as she feels for him.  He tells her that she is a very nice chick, but he’s not in love with her.  He doesn’t want to play with her feelings.  She tells him that his obsession for Elisa is out of hand (ya mean like your obsession for Gael?).  Friends, asks Gael?  No, I won’t be able to be your friend, Gael.  She tells him to leave.  He walks off and she hugs a tree.  Commercial.

Casa de Arango-Elisa’s Bedroom-Oh joy, Elisa is unpacking her ugly clothes.  She removes the picture and the amulet from the suitcase.  She’s looking at the picture of her mother and godmother when Carmina walks in (This chick is fearless.  Doesn’t she know that her actions are worthy of death?  Or at least a good punch in the face?)  She asks Elisa to forgive her.  Elisa doesn’t believe that her aunt is being sincere.  Carmina begs Elisa not to be so tough on her.  She reminds her niece that they have the same blood and that she is her only family.  Elisa rolls her eyes.  Carmina (no shame) sits down on Elisa’s bed.  She asks Elisa to ask Agosto not to kick her out.  She’ll do anything.  Elisa apologizes, but tells her that Agosto has made his decision and she has nothing else to say.  Carmina tells her that she understands.  She tells Elisa that Estefania would have given her a second chance. Elisa signals that she’s bored with the conversation by arranging the picture and the amulet.  Carmina thanks her niece for listening and leaves.

Witch Mountain-Ramona finds Paloma sobbing by the tree.  Did Gael leave?  Yes, Grandma, Gael left.  Then what are you doing here?  Come eat dinner.  I’m not hungry.  Paloma tells her Grandmother that she wants to be alone.  Grandma gives her a kiss and tells her not to stay out too long.  Don’t be sad; it’s not the end of the world.  It is to me, says Paloma.

Casa de Arango-Damien’s Bedroom Ummmmm this is kind of strange, but….OK.  I can only report what I see.  Alfonsina is in Damien’s bedroom wearing a pretty silk robe.  She appears to be lighting candles, for what seems like a romantic evening, when she discovers the amulet that he left on the night stand.  She takes the little necklace and sticks it in her bra and continues setting the ambience.  Hmmmmmm.  I don’t know what to say.  Normally, I am not speechless, but this is just downright odd.  Isn’t incest illegal in Mexico?  Florencia enters the room and asks if Damien has arrived yet.  Alfonsina says that he should be there shortly and tells Florencia that Damien will be lit up like the fireworks on Cinco de Mayo or the 4th of July (except if you live in San Diego because of a computer glitch).  Don’t miss this chance, says Alfonsina.

Cantina-Damien has drunk all of the Tequila.  Certainly, there’s none left in that cantina.  Oops, I was wrong, he has a little left in his glass.  As Braulio lifts him out of his seat, Damien takes that last swallow.  Damien is so sexy when he’s drunk (and when he’s sober).  Braulio almost has to carry him out of the bar.  Damien keeps insisting that Braulio order another bottle.

Casa de Castanon Home Office-Agosto is studying some paperwork when there is a knock at the door.  It’s Elisa, she’s come to say goodnight.  I’m so happy for her that I am not going to mention that her boobs are out and that is an inappropriate low-cut nightie to be wearing whilst you say goodnight to your father.  She gives him a big hug and a kiss.  He thanks her for forgiving him.  He doesn’t know how he believed that she was not his kid.  She doesn’t want to talk about it.  They’ve agreed to let bygones be bygones. He tells her that she is a very noble girl.  She tells him that Carmina came to her bedroom and repented.  She feels sorry for Carmina; she seems very alone.   She doesn’t mind if Carmina stays.  Whatever he decides; she will not oppose it. What???????  It’s my mother’s sister.  What????? Elisa’s back my dumb chick list.  Move over Paloma and Florencia.  Luckily, Angry Agosto’s main brain is still doing the thinking.  He says that he has already made his decision.  Car-azy has got to go!  He hopes that Elisa respects that.  Elisa says that she’s not going to argue with him about that.  OK, so I will just keep her name penciled in on the dumb chick list…for now.  She wants to talk about Damien.  She loves him with all of her soul.  She wants to know if she can date Damien since they are not related.  He tells her that Alfonsina will never accept it.  She will make your life hell, but he’ll allow it.  He tells her to inform Damien that they can get married.  She’s so happy.  She thanks her father and gives him a hug.

Casa de Arango-So Dam Inebriated can’t find his bedroom door. Apparently, while he was out at the cantina, someone moved it.  His mother comes out of her bedroom and watches while he stumbles down the hallway.  She adjusts her satin evening gown and robe.  You son is gorgeous, but someone please inform Alfonsina that incest is against that law in Mexico.  I’ve looked it up.  Florencia is wearing a negligee and waiting in Damien’s bedroom.  Damien wants to know what she’s doing there.  My bad, now I get it!  Alfonsina was not lighting the candles to take advantage of her hot, delicious and intoxicated son.  She was setting a romantic mood so that Florencia could have sex with him while his defenses are down.  What kind of mommy from hell is she?  She got Braulio to take Damien out drinking, and then prepared the bedroom so that Florencia could sleep with him.  Florencia nibbles on Damien’s neck.  Damien tells Florencia that he needs her.  Alfonsina’s probably out in the hallway listening to her son having sex.  Gross!  Credits.

Advances
Kenia’s body is floating around.  Elisa walks in on Damien and Florencia in bed together.

While watching last night, all I kept thinking was "Cynderella is going to have a field day with this episode." And you did--just hysterical and wonderful!

"Yeah, but it must have felt great to have smacked the hell out of her. I’ve been dying to do it since episode 25 when I first started recapping this show)." As have we all---a moment to savor.

"Carmina IMUSTHAVEADEATHWISH Castanon strolls in." I know, right? My jaw dropped, and then she does it with Elisa when it didn't work with Asshat. This woman is desperate--face it, she would have to get a job, cook her own meals, clean, wash her own clothes...groveling is a small price to pay I'm guessing. (The crotch moment was especially almost choke on my wine-inducing.)

"(I know that you don’t know that she’s not your sister, but this is gross!)" And we wonder why Braulio, poor sap, was downing the tequila's too. I switched over to check the Nascar race.

(ya mean like your obsession for Gael?)." Ok, I may not be popular here, but I had a very hard time getting sympathy going for Pathetic. She KNEW what she was getting into with Gael, he had been honest with her from the start and even warned her they needed to take it slow. Ramona tried to even warn her and all she got was Pathetic being pithy with her " hey, missy, bed without dinner for you!" moments. The minute her LALAland bubble is about to burst, she starts the harpy mode ( which would make most guys run alone). He was being honest, and actually being a good guy. He could take advantage and do the Paolo with her ( hey, new verb). But he didn't. And he did it AFTER finding out the the whole brother-sister thing is bust with E/D. (Although WE know that door hasn't closed yet.) Ok, rant over. Ramona was sweet with her though.

"What kind of mommy from hell is she?" It is one thing to set your son up to get drunk as a skunk, but the whole "let me set the mood" prep was plain creepy. The woman has officially got some screws loose. Of courser, Dam didn't exactly put up much a fight either. If he could walk down a hall, he could show Flo the door. Stooopid. And of course, those previews....

So Monday we will be enduring more wailing and gnashing of teeth from Weepsa ( we had a one episode respite--I guess that should make us happy), Pal being pithy Pathetic, Rusty doing her best to avoid the job market at all costs and Irritating. I may need antacids before watching.

Thank you Cynderella. We all predicted this to happen.

I now officially do not want Damian and Elisa to be together. He's too weak for her. And she cries too much.

I didn't see the Kenia floating around in the preview. Did you see it or just know she must be?

I recap off of the online versions. They show Kenia floating face down in the water.

Well, then I'm sad about Kenia. I was holding out hope that she might still be alive. These writers need to watch American soap operas to get an understanding on how to bring dead people back to life.

¡Gracias, Cynderella!

So, Gael is getting in the middle of a domestic dispute between Gabino and Ingrid. Good thinking! What could possibly go wrong?

Marie from Natick

Bravo, Cynderella!

I too, like DaisynJay was thinking you would have a field day with this episode! My favorite line:

Elisa just got moved back to my dumb chick list! Move over Paloma and Flor! ITA! ITA!

And you captured all the kinkiness perfectly: Carminas face in the crotch, Alfas lighting the candles and tucking the amulet into, what, the bra she wears under her silky negligee? Elisa's Victorias Secret nightgown to kiss daddy goodnight.

And I also agree with how sweet the daddy daughter moment was. Elisa is, if nothing else, desperate for her fathers affection and she finally got it.

Someone commented earlier about the double standards on these shows. If the roles were reversed and Dam Loose walked in on Elisa and, say, Gael in bed 24 hours after the break up, it would be unforgivable. Dam deserves the sh** storm that's headed his way!

Great job, Cynderella! Thank you!

Katy

The previews showed Cynthia waking up in the hospital, so I'm guessing he chose her. Boy, Gus just isn't meant to procreate.

Ok, that's the third time I've written a comment on the wrong TN thread. So sorry.

Another outrageous recap from my favorite stand-up comic Cynderella. Always enjoy your personal observations of our hunky galans, as well as those very unique idioms:

"like a red-headed stepchild..."
or
"she doesn't want to work the stroll anymore"

But my favorite Cynderellism was... "Elisa uses this opportunity to make herself the subject of the conversation"

Yep, our little lady is always front and center and poor Paloma just has to step aside every time.

Now here comes my own Paloma-Gael-Ramona rant. I'm coming down on a slightly different side than Daisynjay.

I don't think Paloma is pathetic...just desperately in love. She's a small town girl with a small town life and Gael is her sun, moon and stars. So she's going to go overboard even though it doesn't help.

And what really doesn't help is having Granny Portentous discount and invalidate her feelings. IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD! Well, yes it IS, right now for Paloma and she said so.... with a quiet dignity that I found quite appropriate.

I think we all figure that eventually Paloma's going to find happiness with Enrique...once he gets thoroughly disenchanted with our devious Flor, but for now, Paloma's young, in love, and devastated. And I can't blame her. Gael is quite the lovable fella. Wonder whom the writers will come up with for him to pursue.

Cynderella - Great recap and soooo very funny. Thank you! I cannot list all my favorite phrases because I'd have to copy & paste the whole thing.

Ewww… I had to FFWD-> thru Carmina's "ugly crying". Spare me. I want someone to take her out, and soon. Maybe Horacio? Gabino?

It is highly unlikely Dam will have sex with Flor. I've seen this device before in telenovelas. He'll wake up next to Flor and she'll TELL him they did the horizontal tango, but usually the hussy is already pregnant with someone else's baby.

"These writers need to watch American soap operas to get an understanding on how to bring dead people back to life." cathyx - Agreed! The whole Kenia/Carmina/drowning in the cenote could be manipulated as a dream sequence, like Bobby Ewing.

JudyB - I'm with you on the not-pathetic- Paloma take. But overall, I thought Ramona had a lot of empathy for Paloma instead of saying she tried to warn her.

Judy--there's much I agree with you on, Pal has had it bad for Gael for a long time, so yes, it definitely hurts. Can't deny that. I guess where she lost me was at the end when she refused to even be friends.

Hadn't caught the preview with Kenia floating. Wonder who will find her? If it's the lake, I'm guessing poor Ramona. And I hope we aren't seeing a softening between Gael and II--he'll feel all sorry for her and she will take advantage. One character I like to have as little time on my TV screen as possible.

Cynderalla: Very witty. I didn't see the part about Kenia floating in the water - must have been cut.

Anyway, it's déjá vu all over again. Didn't we already have a scene of Florencia seducing Damian. Damian is a predictable schmuck. He should get stuck with Paloma. Wouldn't that make Alfonsina's hair stand on end.

Florencia has come up with a pretty complicated way of deceiving both Alfonsina and Damian. This novela is writing a new chapter in the DNA handbook.

Meanwhile, Guido sits in jail, Paolo is leaving town, Sabrina is disgraced and Carmina is outed - or, mostly. If her child had lived, Damian's inheritance would have had another claimant - including him, that makes three.

Hmmm..well this has evolved into quite a discussion. Doris, I agree that Ramona's tone was gentle (and she isn't always!) but those encouraging platitudes just never sit well, particularly coming at the instant of the greatest hurt.

Daisynjay, amiga mia...I think what Paloma was saying was she was too much in love, and at that moment, too devastated, to be able to scale back to "just friends". Of course one day they'll be "friends". Just not today!

One thing you and I absolutely agree on....Gael is scrumptious. I love his impulsive, emotional thrust in everything he does and says...so like his Padre. Those two actors do a tremendous job of mirroring each other and I think you were the first commenter to point that out and take delight in it. Heck, Padre Lupe and Gael are my favorite couple. The actual male/female pairings don't really ring my bell (unless Lolita and Braulio get back together.)

Cynderella- I always know that your weeekend recaps will be a treat. Gracias amiga.

Great discussion today. I'm just glad that Paloma and Gael are finally over. It just wasn't working for them. Padre and Gael are also my favorite couple, but I think Gael still has a lot of growing to do in my eyes. I give him points for the mature way he broke up with Pal, but take many away for the way he pounced on Elisa the second she and Dam broke up, and before he had broken up with Pal. Not cool. I don't think he's been a good friend to Dam or a good brother to Kenia.

Was I the only one bugged by how easily Elisa forgave Augie?

Cynderella, I just loved this recap! You are so funny the way you take no prisoners. Great episode too, but the whole time I was yelling "someone give Dam the dam news!!" Sheesh, it was driving me nuts.

Vivi, I didn't like that Elisa forgave dad so quickly either.

cynderella,
i am joyfully enjoying this recap sip by sip...
first sip i just went oooheeeeeee!!! with was this...
Anyways, Lucio and Padre, quickly restrain the now ballistic Agosto in order to keep him from killing his wife.
you took the words right out of my mouth... (drooling)

ok not sure if this has been cleared up yet or not. but 'muerte de cuna', what you called 'crib death' is what is more commonly known in USA as sids (sudden infant death syndrome).

Carmina begs Agosto to forgive her. She sinks to the floor and conveniently puts her face in his crotch.
yeah i noticed that too and found it extremely creepy and disgusting to watch.

I just hope that Elisa never forgives the TangelHo.

Gael wants to know why she can’t get some cash from Gabino. Isn’t Gabino supporting her? He must not know that Gabino is a pimp for life and pimps don’t give hos money. He would know this if he listened to Rap music. Geez.
mark T probably does... well, a little. Gael... not so much.

Luke, it turns out that I am your father after all.
ROFLOL! good one!

My little princess, he whispers in her ear. He tells her that he adores her. This scene is so sweet. I almost teared-up! (OK, I lied. I actually did get misty because she finally got her daddy back). Thank goodness for the commercial!
DITTO!

Gabino is so hot when he’s angry (and when he’s happy and when he’s sad). good one!

Gael says that he’s physically attracted to Paloma; but he’s not in love with her. ... He tells Lupe that she holds himself back with her and that’s not fair.
Ay Gael, how old are you again? ... either give it your all or let her go while she still can handle the let down... but dont hold her on the sideline as a backup.. that is just not right. any which way you slice it. I love you but... you need to make up your mind.

Cantina-Damien is blasted out of his mind and tossing back triple shots of Tequila. ... Tonia hasn’t made you forget a thing, says Damien. Braulio does not respond, but downs a triple shot as well.

the whole breakup scene with Gael and Paloma left me wanting more...
She tells him that his obsession for Elisa is out of hand (ya mean like your obsession for Gael?). ditto!

Carmina walks in (This chick is fearless. Doesn’t she know that her actions are worthy of death? Or at least a good punch in the face?)
Carmina sure was putting her head on the chopping block for AssGusto and then for Elisa, wasn't she?
She takes the little necklace and sticks it in her bra and continues setting the ambience. Hmmmmmm. I don’t know what to say. Normally, I am not speechless, but this is just downright odd. Isn’t incest illegal in Mexico?
yes i found that extremely odd too.

loved your last line, cynderella.
Alfonsina’s probably out in the hallway listening to her son having sex. Gross! Credits.

LOL!!

And you captured all the kinkiness perfectly: Carminas face in the crotch, Alfas lighting the candles and tucking the amulet into, what, the bra she wears under her silky negligee? Elisa's Victorias Secret nightgown to kiss daddy goodnight.

i aggree, katy and Cynderella... so this episode could have anoother subtitle that could openly lead to a spin-off telenovela: the kinky women of La Ermita at their gross-est.

JudyB and Vivi... i totally see both points here... Gael is irresistible.. yes, but he is flawed and immature/inconsistent, like Vivi says...
I have been drooling on the chemistry between Mark T and Rene C as Gael and Padre even before the novela started, and they surely have not let me down...
so totally agree with...
Gael is scrumptious. I love his impulsive, emotional thrust in everything he does and says...so like his Padre. Those two actors do a tremendous job of mirroring each other... Padre Lupe and Gael are my favorite couple. The actual male/female pairings don't really ring my bell (unless Lolita and Braulio get back together.)

but also agree with Vivi on...

I'm just glad that Paloma and Gael are finally over. It just wasn't working for them. ... I think Gael still has a lot of growing to do in my eyes. I give him points for the mature way he broke up with Pal, but take many away for the way he pounced on Elisa the second she and Dam broke up, and before he had broken up with Pal. Not cool. I don't think he's been a good friend to Dam or a good brother to Kenia.

hopefully Gael, now that he has broken up with Paloma, will start seeing things a bit more maturely where it relates to both Paloma and Elisa... he should take some time to think and put his own feelings in line/perspective.

Well said Marta. Our adorable young man still has a lot of maturation ahead of him. As do his pals, Damian, Elisa and Paloma. Come to think of it, so do I!

Heck, Padre Lupe and Gael are my favorite couple.

Oh my dear Judy, now there I agree with you 100%!!! I've actually been disappointed that we haven't had as many of those luscious scenes between the two we had in the starting phases of this TN. Instead, we get the endless Weepsa scenes. I say more...it's the one "parent/child" relationship I enjoy the most.

Vivi, thanks for saying it, because I too wasn't as warm and fuzzy with the Ass/Elisa makeup scene, but then was not surprised. This has been her tendency for awhile now, it's always been her driving force to have daddy love her again. The sheer fact she even thought of going away with him recently (though shhe changed her mind) speaks volumes as to how badly she wanted him to accept her again, to heck with all the years of verbal abuse, etc.

Frankly, it also worries me. Never fails in a TN when people make up and there is a big reconciliation before the ultimate episodes, something not so great is about to happen to muck things up. Will the surfacing of Kenia maybe be that game-changer? or maybe Carmina still hell-bent on revenge?

I will now be heading outside to just stand there to enjoy a half-way decent morning. It's "only" 75 this morning after days and days of waking up to high 80's. Blessed be!

So glad your weather is looking better Daisynjay. I went to the Cleveland/Columbus Homecoming Basketball game in our old French Fieldhouse yesterday and just about died in the sweltering heat. No air-conditioning and a ton of people.

Players had to suffer even more than us mere mortals in the stands of course, and we barely edged the Cleveland team, but it was fun to watch Ohio men come back from the pros or retirement to play the game again.

So I'm beginning to understand why Elisa might want to wear those short shorts and skimpy nightgowns, apart from the obvious appeal to male viewers. The heat has been really brutal, even for folks with electricity.

Thanks for a stellar and hilarious recap, Cynderella.

I love your take on Carmina and "Car-azy" was awesome.

The whole pimped-theme riff with Gael and ING was so funny. I laughed so hard. I think I pulled something!

How nice to be back in Snarkville. Thanks to all the recappers for keeping me up to date while not being able to watch. Lots of LOL moments. Thank you.

I thought it would be embarrassing to bring up Carmina's face in Ass's crotch, but I see not only did Cyderella mention it in the recap, it got commented on by DaisynJay, Katy and Marta (twice). How jaw dropping was that? I am wondering about the real-life Arousal of Assgusto. I know we laugh about Orange-Ho, and Teeth Glowing when Beared and Hairbrushes stuck in her hair, but Sabine really is a hot mama. I bet Assgusto was thinking of baseball stats during that scene.

Sylvia - what's the significance of the pie picture? Did I miss a good joke?

Rosemary la Otra

R la O, no significance. Just a placeholder until I can come up with a better picture.

A homemade apricot pie from your very own apricot tree is more than a placeholder! In fact I'm salivating right now. Not sure if even the Gabino actor sans shirt would do as much for me as that pie. (But you can go ahead and try, girlfriend.)

Thanks for your recap Cynderella. Your stupidity list and Gabino/II as pimp/ho were classic. You are creative and hilarious.

Vivi/Sylvia/Daisynjay - add me to the list who thought Elisa forgave her father too quickly. Daisynjay gave a wonderful explanation as to why it happened but the complete naiveté good characters show when a bad (or evolving) person asks for forgiveness is unsettling. Why don't good characters wait to see evidence of real change before allowing the person (often a parent) back into their lives and often homes? And when she asked Daddy to let Malevolent Orange stay I was like really you want to continue the verbal abuse you've endured since your mother died? You know your tia is a snake; just because she's shedding crocodile tears now doesn't mean she would literally throw you under the bus (or run over you) in a few minutes. I'm w/our recapper - she's on the stupid chick list.

Alfie did reach a new kinky low. Though I do enjoy Flo putting one over on her, how Flo is going to do this is horrible. Yes Sabrina's not the sharpest tool in the shed but couldn't Flo broker something w/Sabrina (its not like she wants to be a teen mom)?

I'm vexed we have to go through another fake pregnancy. Even if the writers change things its still TWO in one TN by the same person (basta!).

My comment is missing. I see that Sylvia saw it, and replied, but it's gone. I did not type with disappearing ink. I hope it was a fluke and I have not been banished from Carayland.

Ah, R la O, You could never be banished. It's gremlins, I tell ya!

Gabino does nothing for me, clothed or nekkid, he's just a nasty thug. (sorry) But, Cynderella, your descriptions are definitely worth the price of admission! Thanks for your most excellent recap - as usual.

Sylvia, that pie looks delish. On our way to your house. We'll stop and pick you up, Judy!

Thanks for the recap, brilliant and too funny.
yola

Everyone is welcome for pie. If we run out we'll just make another one!

Finally got back to laptop use. It's too hard to comment via phone.

Cynderella, your comment about the 4th of July except in San Diego is a hoot. I read about that computer glitch that made them all fire off within 19 seconds. Did you see it? Hope you didn't blink.

Today at the marina I saw a woman heading off for a bicycle ride in super short shorts. All I could think was "ouch!" I can't bear the thought of riding without wearing my hideous padded cycling shorts. They are ugly but effective.

Cynderella:
This was another smashing recap. Thank you very much. I o not know what is up with Blogger but my posts keep disappearing. Cinder, I just wrote a long one singing your praises that disappeared into the ether.

I'll make this one shorter. I love your recaps.

Elna June

Rosemary la Otra, your missing comment was bugging me so I searched the bowels of the blog and found that your comment had, for some reason, been sent to Spam limbo. I have no idea why. Anyway, I was able to restore it and it is now in its original and rightful place.

Elna June, your comment must have been eaten and digested; alas it was not in Spam limbo. Sorry amiga. Sometimes blogger does the same thing to me. It is extremely annoying to say the least.

The stupidity of the characters lends very well to the amazing snark of the recappers, thanks for such a funny recap Cynderella!!
Did anyone else think it was odd that Dam could actually get little Dam to stand up being that drunk?

So many loose ends right now I'd never be able to keep up if it weren't for this blog.
**Quote**"So Monday we will be enduring more wailing and gnashing of teeth from Weepsa ( we had a one episode respite--I guess that should make us happy), Pal being pithy Pathetic, Rusty doing her best to avoid the job market at all costs and Irritating. I may need antacids before watching"

Haha! Pass the antacids!

Ha ha. I'll bet R la O got sent to Spam Limbo for saying "cr*tch" SIT THERE AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU'VE DONE.

And mil gracias to all the stellar recappers on this show -- I am trying to keep up and always read the recaps themselves even if I can't get to the comments. You all are truly in mid-season form.

Kathleen, telenovela galáns have superhuman virility. Their soldiers can ALWAYS salute, even on a drunken shore leave bender. Which does not necessarily mean that any cositas actually occurred, until we hear for sure. But a galán never doubts that it could have, or looks for evidence.

I find it hilarious that my WV for that was "asearse", to freshen up. I think blogger is giving Damian suggestions.

I was rewatching this episode just now while folding laundry. My six year old came in the room during the Tequila drinking scene and said "You could just call him Dumbian." From the mouths of babes, lol!

Bwahahahha!! Kathleen, I love your six year old. Much smarter than Dumbian, that's for sure.

He is such a funny little guy. His comment during a Carmina scene? one word, said with the disdain of a 6 year old, "Venena."
If the novelas weren't part porn shows, I'd let him watch and recap. Let's give him another 10 years...

kathleen,
this is martaivett..
that reminds me when my girls were little and we were watching Esmeralda in 98... the good thing is they did not understand the graphic violence imbedded in the Dr Malaver character... and all they could do was sing along with the theme song during the credits, but they did it by sound, they did not understand much spanish at the time.. much like my grandson now sings along with the Abismo theme song.
btw my daughter, the mother of the boy, says spanish soaps have lots more porn than american soaps... she doesn't really watch american soaps much ... but i do not feel like trying to argue against that statement.

Please, let's not think that showing some bare flesh and hinting at what it's for is porn. Do you want the Buckle on the Bible Belt campaigning for more censorship?

Sylvia, I did not get to see the firework. I was watching the one of the last 400 chapters of the same episode over and over and over again of Una Maid en Manhattan. The firework went off like a bomb at about 5 minutes to 9. I thought it was a warning blast to tell us that the show was about to begin. I went out on the balcony (I was at my mother's house) and there to watch the harbour and there was just one big puff of smoke sitting in the air.

Thanks everyone for your comments. You guys are funny.

Does anyone else watch Una Maid en Manhattan? I am so ready for it to be over with. I am only watching the ending to see how Sara gets caught, but I'm getting to the point that I don't care. It's the same episode EVERYNIGHT! Kill me.

I live in the Buckle of the Bible Belt. We aren't all jackwagons. Besides. They don't speak Spanish ...far from it *cough*AlabmaHB56*cough*

That's right, Sara. I am originally from the Bible Belt. I watch this filth. LOL

All hail filth!!!

BWAHAHA!!!

Did you all see the infographic on Slate today about the percentage of U.S. population that is Hispanic, by county? It's what you'd expect, but still interesting to see the numbers. It also shows how the counties voted in the last presidential election.

I found it a little odd that the one county in Washington that is majority Hispanic is so Republican. That is not typical. Unless maybe a large percentage of the Hispanic population there aren't citizens and can't vote?

At least we our Big Slurp drinks aren't censored here in the Buckle of the Bible Belt!!

Sandy in TN just barely keeping up!

I'm laughing at the comments here, what a lively day at Caray!!
Re my comment about porn, oh Please don't take it the wrong way...I just kinda meant not totally appropriate for kids to watch at all times. Still my kids watch (or at least are around while most of these shows are playing) novelas since Mama (me) and Abuelita ( my mother in law who watches the kids for me while I'm at work) are both avid fans of Mexican TV.
I thought *I* lived in the buckle of the Bible Belt, Tulsa OK. But you know what, the Bible Belt probably has as many buckles as Gabino, lol!! Bring on the filth!!!

Oh darn, I've been missing out on all the filth! Belt buckles and filth go so well together.

Belt buckles and filth were practically synonymous in Talismán.

I think that's where I got the connection, from El Tal. Filthy hawt Antonio and his filthy, suggestive belt buckle. I kinda miss him, sigh. He was so damaged. And filthy.

And hawt.
