Abismo de pasion #109 8/15/12: Ramona said it best: I cannot tell the future, but can tell you this, right now things are all backwards.
Labels: abismo
Now that you mention it, Carmina does seem to be wearing white every time she rolls in the hay with someone.
Great stuff, Marta.
BeGoneYa may have been giving Sabrina an abortifacient. The question is whether she realized that.
Doc Tovar should not have been treating his own daughter. He should be knocking Paolo's block off, followed by performing a penectomy on him.
Hahaha! Or maybe he won't!
Thanks, Super Marta, for your usual complete and speedy job!
Urban, It's pretty clear that Bumble WAS giving Sabrina an abortifacient herb but inadvertently. She meant it to be a WEIGHT LOSS remedy since she had noticed Sabrina was chunking up. She really had no idea her daughter was pregnant.
About Doc T treating his own daughter, I thought I heard them say that the "specialist" had not arrived. The situation was too urgent to wait. Doc was the most qualified person on the scene. You're right that ideally, he SHOULDN'T HAVE stepped in but realistically, I'm not sure he had much choice.
OK, I know it's Shark Week on Discovery Channel, but did they have to play the Jaws theme ALL NIGHT last night?! OMG! Those screechy violins were distracting!
And Marta, you pose a great question. Remember the very first episode where we see a flash of a white dress in Rosie's office then we see Estefania walking outside the ProCe also wearing a white dress? They intentionally made us think she was having the affair with Rosie? I wonder if Carmina is wearing STEFFIE's white dress. Maybe she's not only jealous of her but completely obsessed and wants to be her. That would explain always trying on her jewelry, etc.
And UA, there was that moment when BegoneYa held up that big bag o' herbs and I thought OMG, she knew she was pregnant all along and did it intentionally! But then she played dumb and I kinda' believe her. But that would be an excellent plot twist if she really were that evil.
Marta, what does ‘Del muerto al pozo y el vivo al gozo’ mean?
Thanks again for an awesome recap! Loved it!
Katy
I definitely think Be-gon-ya was giving Sabrina an herb that would cause her to lose the baby, but I think what irks me more, since she didn't know said daughter was preggers, was that she was actually promoting her daughter to need to be stick thin to consider herself attractive. Double anvil - maybe the guilt she may feel over how she caused the baby loss will straighten her out. But I think we've thought this before.
Creamsicle wearing white when she tangos--great catch on that, had not realized that. Maybe she thinks it makes her look younger and more innocent ( now there's a stretch). But she's preaching to the choir with these guys - they know what she is, she could wear a garbage bag for all they care. Rosenda seemed to boink anything that moved and Gab has been salivating after her for years. I'd say right now she's in the driver's seat. Poor Gab has licked the Creamsicle and they are addicting. She's got him wrapped around her little finger now.
So maybe Chente will wake up and smell the roses..."daddy" may have helped you ( have to say, Gab never leaves a damsel in distress) but he took a powder pretty fast and left you there to deal with things. On the other hand, Braulio is being supportive and staying with you....now who's your "daddy"?
Is there only a male writer on this TN? because honestly, showing these young constantly weepy females crying for days, months over lost loves, NOT!!!!! And Pal needs a real personality makeover. Too shrill, comes off so pathetic...and it just makes me sooooooooo, well you know, that she and Gael will wind up together. THEY.DON'T.WORK.
I agree, Katy, that Jaws music was over used in this episode. I kept waiting for the brass section to join in, too, but it doesn't happen. Avoiding payment of royalties, I suppose...
Maybe Carmina wears white because it makes her tan look darker?
Marta- I agree... they don't know the words nor the meaning to Amor Eterno. Nice, clear recap. Thank you.
Katy - too funny about the Jaws violins during Shark Week!

As for Rosendo, I think he was just thinking with the wrong head. He would have regretted running out on Damian.
As to Begoña's motive for giving Sabrina the tea...
I've no doubt that she had no idea that Sabrina was pregnant nor even entertained the possibility. I also doubt that she gave any thought to any bad consequences that might result from the herb.
It is a fact that many people think that because herbs are natural they pose no health risks and most often will not mention herbs when questioned about medications.
I have a quarrel with Ramona, however. She saw fit to tell Dr. Tovar that his daughter was pregnant but did not mention the sack of herb that she saw in the pantry. She, of all people, knew the danger it posed in that situation.
I think I'll trade in my herbal tea for a nice safe shot of Tequila.
Carlos
I like the theories on Carmina's white dress. I'm going with the "she's trying to be Stef or actually wearing Stef's dress" theories. That seems pretty consistent with her behavior.
I can't believe I feel sorry for Sabrina. I hope the poor kid makes it. At least for Doc T's sake.
Terrific recap Marta. Thanks again!
Stefie's, which is the one Elisa wore to the first Dam/Flo engagement party was a fitted white(snug to her waste down her thighs), wider shoulders and much more ellegant than Carmina's.
But you are right in the sense that Carmina seems to wear white to try to make herself the innocent one, the one that was handed the short stick of sorts.
and about
‘Del muerto al pozo y el vivo al gozo’
i would translate into stte of:
the dead belong in the graves and the alive ones can go on living/enjoying themselves (or if taken to the extreme, could also infer that the alive are more free and be happier now that the other individual is dead). gozo = enjoyment; pozo = well or hole...
I don’t think that Begoña has the ability to quietly try and use herbs to cause a miscarriage. We saw the real Begoña as she clomped down the Casa Arango path toward the hacienda, she was beside herself, she looked like a herky-gerky puppet..........that’s the real Begoña. Yes, she did wait up for Sabrina once, but she could never quietly digest a pregnancy and keep a herb/miscarriage plot going on for days and days. (In my opinion anyway!!)
I’m ashamed of both of the adult Tovars. To break down to such base name calling and blame during a serious family crisis was truly sad. They are both good parents, no need to hurl guilt bombs at one another, that was disquieting.
**Goody-two shoes alert** I actually felt a little compassion for Chente last night. He reminded me of a pet or small child who knows their owner or parent is sick and doesn’t really know what to do and just sits with you, or in the case of a pet, paws at you. At least he was loyal to Sabrina and went for help. The actor who plays Braulio must be sick of bratty fictional children. The last novela son he had, Josué, in Mi Pecado, was just like Chente.
Sandy...loved your "Goody-two-shoes alert". Maybe you and I can just say GTSA when we're about to rile others with our tender ahhhh-give-'em-a-breaj feelings.
I have my first job interview since 1983 tomorrow. Any hints as to what tough interview questions may come my way? The job is running the campus' testing center.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Sandy in TN - Yes, you are right, and Chente needs to be recognized for it. Granted, he is enamored with Sabrina, but he did not leave her alone in her urgent state.
Thanks, Marta. Enjoyable and educational as always.
Sorry soft-hearted ones. I still can't stand Chente. If he hadn't taken Sabrina to that empty hacienda she wouldn't have had her miscarriage all alone, on the floor, with Chente rushing off to bring pineapples and wafting her with his nasty handana. No Chente table for me...
I'm glad Braulio was there for Vincente even though he doesn't deserve his support. It doesn't appear that even if Vincente did get her to the hospital sooner that the baby could have been saved. I agree with those who said Beg did not have any idea Sabrina was pregnant. Perhaps this might bring about a change in Beg, less gossipy, class conscious and more loving. We can only hope.
Great comments everyone.
Rosemary: Best of luck on your interview! Questions vary but be prepared to list your strengths and weaknesses. Depending on the type of job you are applying for, you may be given various scenarios/issues and be asked how you would handle them or the people involved. I might suggest you thoroughly research the company that is interviewing you and have a list of questions. Also, don't be afraid to take a few seconds to formulate your answers. Smile in the interim. Don't feel you must answer the second the question is posed. Again, best of luck and let us know how you make out!
Diana
and prepare yourself asking yourself 'what would i do in this scenario' (like one coworker asks you to do A and another coworker wants you to do B, you should go back to either your manager for advice or go back to the original requirement/procedure/SOP/etc to determine the best course of action. Also you will be asked if you had something that you would have liked to change about a prior job or experience, what would you change or what you changed and how... avoid pinpointing at other people in previous jobs, that is always a no-no.
But above all, be yourself, if it is not a good match with the real you, then it is probably not the right job for you. Dont compromise.
I really hope my new job gives me Caray computer time! This pecking away on a phone just doesn't get me at many patio tables. Of course I will not mention THAT in the interview. Nor will I dress like Elisa.
Thanks again, Amigas!
Diana and Marta made some great points. Strengths and weaknesses seems to be a biggie everyone asks, though I hate to do it when I interview for my peeps. I usually ask them for an example of a difficult situation they incurred in former positions and how they handled and give me an example or two of the proudest work accomplishments. I hate talking about MYSELF to people, but I don't mind talking in terms of work accomplished and notice most folks feel the same.
If they ask about what you did during your years away from work, be honest but keep it short, unless you participated in volunteer activities that can talk to your job and skills. I've heard some interviewers like to see how people handle gaps in their experience to see how they handle pressure. Cute huh?
So much positive energy being sent your way!!!!
Wishing you the best tomorrow. I think Daisy, Marta and Diana are right on target with their advice.
(What a great community this is. It wouldn't have occurred to me to ask a question like that here, but why not? These guys know everything!)
R la O, I think everyone gave you great advice. I would add that it is important to be yourself. Jobs are like relationships, they have to be a good fit on both sides. You are interviewing them as well. Good luck amiga!!
Examples: Proudest moment was when I talked Assgusto out of taking a 2nd shot at Dam.
Difficult situation...when the doctor I worked for asked me to switch ultrasound videos.
NM, you are absolutely right about this great community. It is jam packed with winners and since we've discussed everything from Two Buck Chuck to hanging avocados to bare chested arm wrestling, I figured I'd reach out for advise.
They don't disappoint!
The only tip I have to add is to be sure and drop "la Otra" from your name, out of this context, it sounds strange!!!
What time is your interview so we can concentrate our good vibes?
Best wishes R la O.
Doris - you are on fire. First Chente-cide and now she wears white to show off her tan.
Emilia - I'm w/you on Chente. Like Sylvia, I was concerned about Sabrina and him trying to kidnap her and keep her in the house was disconcerting to me.
I've had fun catching up on the last few weeks of episodes. The recaps have helped me tremendously. I understand the Spanish perfectly (in 99% of the conversations) but contextually I love the recaps and look forward to each of those eagerly.
I agree that Bergonia did not assume her daughter's pregnancy. She seemed to seriously believe her daughter was bulimic.
I work on the Labor/Delivery floor and PostPartum floor of a major hospital, as well as assist in home birth midwifery. I am always amazed at the amount of medical supervision in novela births and/or pregnancies, no matter how sophisticated or simple the town. I'd love to know (from native Mexicanas) if truly hospitalized antepartum/postpartum care is available in a puebla such as La Hermita, or if most births and pregnancies would be attended to by midwives? Midwifery is my sidekick, but i can only recall a few novelas where births were attended to by midwives versus doctors. Input would be much appreciated.
